Well dragons are also needed to help defeat The Others so they can’t be all evil.
Are they, though? Are they needed? Is that their purpose in the story?
Or is it that you think they must be, or else they would truly be nothing but a tool of oppression in Dany's hands?
If GRRM were to make the solution to the ancient magical ice threat a simple case of massive fire power or air travel, I would be immensely surprised.
Some characters might think they are needed. But I sincerely doubt they will be.
(The dragons themselves aren't evil, btw, they are simply very dangerous animals, but the circumstances of their creation and their use as weapons of war very much qualify as monstrous.)

Sometimes I wonder why some People think you are not allowed to like a fictional Character when it isn't the White Knight or a pure selfless Hero. Or because Your interpretation of the Character differs from that of the other Person.
For example, I like it when the Villain of a Story survives because killing the Dragon doesn't solve the Problem. Especially when the Dragon is just one part of the problem.
One example because it is really good: The Grishaverse, everyone is fighting the Darkling, but he is only part of the problem. The other parts are religious fanatics who believe that people with special abilities are the incarnation of evil. So the Drüskelle from Fjerda, not to forget the witch trials and funeral pyres. And all that for hundreds of years. Or the laboratories in Shu Han, where experiments are carried out on people with special abilities or dissects, and that too for many years. And these problems don't go away when the Darkling is gone, they get worse! And after a short resurrection, he sacrifices himself, his argument that he is allowed to make this sacrifice is: that he doesn't die but is immortal and at the end, the new queen of the land says she wants to redeem and free him … the guy volunteered to guard the inworld version of the gates of hell forever, redeeming him doesn't solve the problem! It just starts it all over again.
Next example: Star Wars. Again and again, the Force shows us that the Dark Side is necessary, but again and again, the Dark Force User is killed. And the War starts all over again because no one realizes that it doesn't solve the Problem!
And this Rambling Post was started because again of Daenerys and her worshippers. I could scream! Maybe killing Dragons is not the solution, and neither is it to use them. They are gigantic, flying, firebreathing Lizards. And Who is supposed to control them? The little piece of meat that screams at them? No, if they decide they just make one little Flame and the Human becomes their Barbeque. In the end, it is a big carnivorous Lizard and GRRM portrayed them as such! People who think they can use Dragons are part of the Problem and not the solution to anything!
I want to enjoy these parts for what they are! The evil, dark and funny Parts, seriously in every one of these Examples, the Heroes are outright boring and in some cases even annoying.

There's not a day when I won't feel sorry for her. He never deserved her or any of his children. Ironically, he killed Aemma for a son only to eventually gain not just one but three and neglect them. He traumatized a teenage girl for the rest of her life, using her and leaving her in the dust like she wasn't shit.

Cersei Lannister & Rhaenyra Targaryen:
Are forced to marry someone they don’t love, so they find solace in the arms of a family member and commit incest
Seduce members of the Royal Guard
Have their husbands murdered because they didn’t like them
Have three bastard kids
Commit atrocities to claim the Iron Throne
Betray their allies when they feel threatened
Rule with fire and blood
Live in constant paranoia so they murder innocent servants whom they believe will betray them, even if said betrayal would be a direct consequence of the way they treat their subjects
Are hated by the people
and lets us not forget the -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But no, please go ahead and tell me all about how Rhaenyra is this feminist icon who has the divine right to rule over hundreds of thousands of people because her daddy said so, therefore if I don’t support her I’m a misogynist.

Bioware is typically pretty bad at writing religious characters (especially in ME) because it comes off as cringy and weird and brought up inorganically, in a way that’s clearly supposed to just cause conflict and isn’t really thought out or meaningful
But Leliana is the exception to this in my mind because she’s objectively hilarious about how she interprets her beliefs and spends three games being like “God told me to follow you. Now that we’re dating I want you to know that god sent you to me as a little treat because I was a very good girl. God wants me to have sex with girls. Revolution is the will of god and it’s ok if I kill people for it. I know that the pope is supposed to be celibate but god wants me to have a wife so I’m not giving up sex. Yes I can still assassinate peopled gods ok with it”

"I have the dragon's bastard in me. I can feel his fires licking at my womb."- Alys Rivers(TWOIAF). It sounds similar to this quote. "She could feel the heat inside her, a terrible burning in her womb."-Dany(AGOT IX). It's when Dany having vision of Rhaego she felt her womb has fire.
Not to be neglected:
The red priestess shuddered. Blood trickled down her thigh, black and smoking. The fire was inside her, an agony, an ecstasy, filling her, searing her, transforming her. Shimmers of heat traced patterns on her skin, insistent as a lover's hand. Strange voices called to her from days long past. "Melony," she heard a woman cry. A man's voice called, "Lot Seven." She was weeping, and her tears were flame. And still she drank it in. (ADWD, Melisandre)
Suggestion: If you feel a burning sensation in your private area, consult GRRM to check if you are perchance a villainous figure representing the dark temptation of fiery bloodmagic.

I will never forgive HOTD for making me sit through TWO Rhaenyra births and TWO Rhaenyra weddings…
But never having us see Alicent’s wedding or births. Scenes that would have forced the fans to confront the true reality of how despicable her situation is. It would force viewers to see a child, devastated, as she walks down the aisle to her creepy old man of a husband. It would force viewers to watch a little girl have a child. Completely unprepared and alone, crying for her mother and finding no sympathy. She has no father to protect her. No mother to guide her and comfort her. No husband who cares about her.
It would force team black to stop seeing her as the evil seductress, for even a moment. And see her true vulnerability. See how she doesn’t, and never did, want this. See how these are not consequences of her actions, but instead the consequences of the men around her that she has to suffer for them. Because they don’t care about her. Viserys doesn’t care about her.
These are scenes that are meant to bring sympathy to her character. To give Alicent a reason to be righteously angry at the family and system that broke her down and stole her childhood. It gives Alicent a valid motive to fight aside from fear. And it takes away the chances for team black to deny her suffering at least a little bit.
Because as the current narrative sits, it’s easy to ignore Alicent’s experience and warp it into a much more pleasant story. They see Alicent “seducing” the king and then she is already married. And then she’s pregnant and the babies magically appear. No screaming or crying or bleeding involved. All is good. The teenager definitely didn’t suffer at all. And by doing this some people can’t sympathize as much or they are given allowances to intentionally not sympathize.
Instead. The current narrative allows for Alicent to be the seductress, the crazed woman, the jealous bitch, and the villain. But if we saw what she actually went through. Alone, scared, suffering, neglected, and holding it all in. We would be allowed to see her as she truly is. The victim. Finally crushing under the weight of it all and lashing out.
(And the narrative would be all the better for it because instead of feminist icon team vs crazy trad wife and co (as far as team black sees it), we would have woman fighting against patriarchal narrative for her own claim vs woman fighting against patriarchal narrative to destroy the people who hurt her)

Aegon wears the crown of Aegon I. Maegor the Cruel was the last person to wear the conqueror's crown. Maegor, who murdered his nephew, the rightful heir to the throne, and usurped the throne for himself. He died a tragic death, leaving no heirs, and his line became extinct. The crown is too big, too heavy and doesn't fit his head. The crown doesn't fit him well, it's not for him.
Rhaenyra wears Jaeherys' crown. The last person to wear this crown was Rhaenyra's father, the king chosen by Jaeherys as his heir, Jaeherys who defeated the usurper and did not wear the crown worn by him, but created his own, which was to be a symbol of the return of the rightful line of succession to the throne. The crown fits perfectly on Rhaenyra's head.

Her horrible night hasn't even begun yet, and she's already picking at her fingers ☹️
Tumblr media
It just makes you wonder how many countless nights she had to endure this. How many times she was woken up because Viserys desired her, and her being able to do NOTHING about it.
She can't refuse the King; he's her husband. She can't refuse her husband; he's the King.
Alicent has to do her duty, and pleasing the King IS her duty.
Even though he mocked her in the Godswood in front of Daemon and Rhaenyra. Even though he laughed in her face. Even though he consistently demonstrates that he thinks less and less of her with each passing day.
Alicent Hightower—despite the late hour, despite the mockery, and despite her dissociating during the act—goes to the King and does her duty.
