what are some of the recipes witch angeal has made from his "family recipe" book? any fam favorites? any faves the boys have?
hello! I'm so sorry its taken me so long to answer, I've literally been agonising over Recipes trying to figure out what Goth Witch Angeal would bake 😆.
(I will say that insporation for much of this comes from Sweeny Todd, the curious creations of Christine McConnel and a handfull of Grims Fairytales.)
Okay, so Angeals Go to recipe is meat pie. The thing about this AU is I like towing the line between fantasy and realism with these Characterisations, so you never really know whether they are just Goth and Wiccan or actual storybook witches.
The meat pie started as a joke to scare the local church goers. in the early days of Gen and Angeals relationship, Angeal grudgingly went to church with Genesis in order to "present themselves properly" to the community. Genesis Grew up Catholic, and He is actually still quite religious in a rather hethenistic "Chriso-pagan" kind of way... The crusifix shaped scar at his Clavical that he's had for over 200- I mean... 2 years doesn't seem to deter him from standing on hallowed ground.
They'd been invited to a pot luck, and the woman that had extended it to them had done so incredibly passive agressivly. people like that grated on Angeal... so he'd turned to Mimsy (the recipe book) who immidiatly flipped to the page on meat pie.
To this day the people of the church don't know whether they ate human flesh or not...
The Fam as some more "normal" faves:
Angeals recipe for tri-chocolate brownies is Zacks favorite
Edger is a big fan of both his seed loaf and his mouse mix (its exactly what you think)
Genesis is fond of his Red velvet Cake. he does not use food dye to colour it red. do with that information what you will.
Sephiroth adores his Sea food Risotto, as well as literally anything with Chocolate in it. If anyone ever left Sephiroth in the woods, the only reason he wouldn't get eaten by the witch in the gingerbread house is because he too is a witch.
Cloud would eat Angeals Harvest special Pumpkin pie for every meal for the rest of his life if he could. allas Angeal will not let him.
food traditions include:
Angeals secret Ham recipe (no you may not know) at Yule. They don't eat turkey for many reasons. the main one being Zack complains it sucks allthe moisture out of his mouth. the second main one being Genesis prefers his meat extremely rare... for reasons.
During Imbolc they tend to eat deviled eggs until Zack hits food coma status. once he starts he can't stop.
During Litha they eat Honey cakes Which are some of Angeals personal favorites. usually this is with homemade mead or elderflower wine.
Mabon is all about soup. mostly pumpkin, sometimes carrot. Angela will absoloutly admit to getting the pumpkin soup recipe from a childrens book.
Samhain is all about spice and warmth, so Chillies, and Stews, and cornbreads, and soups and all kinds of things. There is also a lot of Pomigranits involved. Cloud seems to like sitting on the kitchen counter, feeding everyone who passes the seeds. Thats why They all refer to them as their personal persephony.
Beltane is again all about the Honey as well as fresh fruit and veg. Strawbery cream cake must be consumed. it is the law. And Angeal is 100% aware it is an aphrodesiac, thats why he bakes it. feeding Sephiroth strawberries is always fun.

Reading and rambling: The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm
(Tales from Alagaësia VOLUME 1: ERAGON)
~~~
PART ONE: THE FORK
I. Mount Arngor
~~~
Ahem.
*looks at tiny, cute, little, colored map of the EASTERN REACHES*
That looks like it would have taken me the days to color. *imagining the ache of non-stop coloring the same spot over and over and over)
Anyway, what's with the random mountain? They don't get earthquakes do they?
*flipping pages*
Angela! Angela!
... Hmm 2018 copyright. Took me long enough.
*sees drawing of a fork*
Oh! The Little Mermaid! Cool.
What's with the hanging ornament with the page numbers? Should I know these symbols??
The day had not gone well.
I'm sorry. .. Blackberry mead... Like wine or expensive juice?
...picking berries in Palancar Valley.
Awh. Farm boy.
A pang of homesickness struck him.
Now?
...the Academy...
Academy? Oh okay. Not sure I even thought of him giving it a name. Then again he gives names to a number of things. Right?
He sighed, finding the sight depressing.
Do you need help? I can do that. Is it a lot for you? Or a lot in general? Are you exaggerating "mounds"?
It stood alone in the green expanse...
Oh, gosh of I were a place to have dragons... Where would I be? Hmmm. Maybe the big random mountain. A good stronghold though.
Two weeks of sailing to get there??? No. A close environment with the elves and Eragon? No. Can't do it.
How many names can this mountain have? Au least the dwarves know their history. Also, what the crap, elves? You know the mountain's name, but not where or why it has the name??? What? Like that's all you remember from class or something? Not important enough as your obsession with dragons and controlling nature that you claim to respect?
Dealing with them had proven far more frustrating than Eragon anticipated...
FINALLY! Eragon is with all the races in one place. Not just one. At least the dwarves gave him access to history and a MAP back in the day. But now... Oh oooooh. Do you know how happy I am, years later after reflection, that he's able to compare and contrast people? Also in a completely different situation.
Okay, so Eragon is eating. But it's never enough with all the energy he's using to help build??!?!!
I need to introduce him to carbs and stuff. Something.
Good, good. He doesn't want to experience anything like what happened fighting the Empire. Yeah, exciting, Eragon, but... Maybe you need a small hobby to entertain you.
"Barzûl," Eragon muttered.
Oh! That's a curse word. I know that. Right? Wait... Ha! Yeah.
A quill. Good to know.
Awwwwhhh he sleeps under one of Saphira's wings. Where else would he sleep? A rock?
Oh my goodness. Eragon and Saphira, let me do the paperwork. Just pay me in telling me what words you use to get the hair off your face.
A dragon destroyed his homework. That's messed up. I'd be upset about just that. Why don't you just burn it? Huh?
I wanna help decorate the halls!!! The echoes must be creepy in a place that large.
...and then the elves had refined the details.
Dude! The dwarves know very well how to build! When was the last time elves build anything out of stone? You didn't like Eragon's plan enough?? Just want the last say?
Darn, Eragon, get an assistant. Please.
I'll do it, but I require indoor plumbing and a cool cloak.
Oh. Eragon wants to problem solve. He wants to feel productive. Same.
Okay. I need to look up what an 'eyrie' is exactly.
Yeah, those Eldunarí need years of therapy. Poor things.
They can feel the light on their facets? For real or...?
Oh, the elves did windows. Cool. Cool.
*reads about Eragon talking with dragons*
See? I was right. Eragon needs something to do to distract himself.
Wow. That's a lot of information. I'm glad to see Eragon in a different setting, not war. But it's very new for him having so much pressure for the present to make sure the future is safer.
He's working smarter, but also a lot harder.
Woo!

Barry Eisler (The Commonwealth Club of California)
Investigative journalist and bestselling author Annie Jacobsen delves into the U.S. government's decades-long investigation into mental powers and phenomena. Jacobsen reveals how the U.S. government has utilized ESP to locate hostages, fugitives, and secret bases, as well as to predict future threats. Drawing on declassified documents and exclusive interviews with former CIA and Defense Department scientists, analysts, and program managers, Jacobsen sheds light on these radical and controversial programs.

Angela Ford was a member of the U.S. Army remote viewing unit at Fort Meade, Maryland, from 1986 to 1995 - with some legendary success stories. Later, she travelled to Russia with physicist Edwin May to meet her cold war counterparts there. Here she describes how she practiced a form of channeling, i.e., automatic writing, while working in the Army's remote viewing unit. This practice was frowned upon by those who held to a strict interpretation of the proper protocols for remote viewing. However, the automatic writing led to several successful drug interdictions and other intelligence operations. She points out that the primary requirement for remote viewing, or channeling, is that the percipient be blind as to the actual target.

An interview with remote viewer and psychic Angela Dellafiora Ford. We discuss automatic writing and her time in the Project Star Gate remote viewing program. Angela was one of the few female remote viewers in the program and the only one to use automatic writing, a process that became known in the remote viewing unit as Written Remote Viewing or WRV. In this interview Angela discusses her introduction to the psychic arts and automatic writing, her use of this approach in the remote viewing unit, and how she has continued to use this and other tools to explore and teach the psychic arts.

Before there was an official remote viewing program, there was Uri Geller. In 1972, he traveled to Stanford Research Institute to have his unusual abilities tested under laboratory conditions. Unbeknownst to him, many of these scientists had direct links to the CIA which had a strong interest in his ability to gather information that they could not get in any other way. During this time, he worked with prominent scientists, such as Edgar Mitchell, Russell Targ, and Ingo Swan, who would go on to establish the initial Remote Viewing project. Much of what they did is still secret, but we gain access to footage from these experiments and see, first hand, the astounding results that shaped the CIA’s belief in the paranormal.

Round 10: Angela
Welcome to Angela’s household. Right at the start, Angela puts all ingredients into the brewing vat to create a healing mead. It needs to brew for six days! Since Sims will need calf hide to create parchment, I bought some more calf for the family. The children can already read, so they use the time to get some cooking skills. Meanwhile, Angela takes care of the meat she got from the other…

Beowulf (exc. from Beowulf By All)
BY UNKNOWN
TRANSLATED BY TARREN ANDREWS, FLATHEAD INDIAN RESERVATION, ELAINE TREHARNE, JILL M. FITZGERALD, AND ANGELA B. FULK
Heyla! We have a story about the Spear-Danes, from the old days
when they were big and their kings showed their strength. There
was one king, Shield Schefing, who stole many mead-benches from
other tribes and terrified their leaders. At first, he was found weak
and wandering, but was taken in and then grew under the comfort of
the skies. He consumed honors until each of the other surrounding
tribes over the whale’s road were forced to obey him and pay tribute.
They say, that was a good king.
After all this (when he was old), Shield had a son—a young one in
the courtyard—who had been sent by God as a comfort to the people
because He had seen how they were distressed, left without a strong
leader for a long while.16a
The Lord of life,16b
ruler of glory, gifted worldly honour:
Beowulf was famed with widespread renown,
son of Scyld, in the northern lands.
So should a young man do good things
with costly gifts in his father’s care,
so that in old age loyal companions
remain with him afterwards; when war comes
they will support their prince. Through glorious deeds
a man shall prosper among peoples everywhere.
Scyld then set off at his due time,
the mighty lord went into the Lord’s keeping.
His beloved companions carried him then to the
water’s edge, as he himself had instructed
when he still governed, that much-loved Scylding friend,
their beloved land-prince held power a long time.31
There in the port a ring-prowed ship stood anchored,
icy and eager, a nobleman’s vessel.
They laid down their dear king,
giver of rings, in the bosom of the ship,
mighty by the mainmast. There were many treasures
from faraway lands, such precious things loaded there.
I have never heard of a finer ship
fitted with the weapons and armor of war,
swords and harnesses. In its embrace lay
a multitude of treasures, which were to go with him
far off, into the dominion of the sea.
No fewer gifts were provided for him there,
the very wealth of a nation, than what was once done by those who,
at his birth, set him adrift,
alone over the waves as a child.
Then they set for him a golden banner46
high over his head, let the water carry him,
gave him to the powers of the sea. In them there was a sad spirit,
a mournful mind. Men did not know,
to tell the truth, hall counselors,
heroes under the heavens, who accepted that load.
