Gale reviews: Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Alright so I FINALLY saw the movie and after an ordeal with the AMC

I can finally give my thoughts on this movie.

So in order to properly rank this. I will put the following Categories.

Animation

Plot

Characters

Music

Fanservice

Lesson

And I will give my final score at the bottom. I will try not to get too spoiler heavy but spoilers below

And for those that dont want ANY spoilers. I will say it is a great kids movie go watch it

Animation:

This movie is Absolutely Gorgeous. Every mushroom, every brick has been lovingly crafted. I LOVE the attention to details, I love how hard each hit feels in this movie. The Choreography in this and flow is incredible. Illumination's eye for visual slapstick is still on a league of its own and it fits very well with the movie.

The character expressions all flowed great and you felt sucked in by the expression. It was like watching a Mario game. Brooklyn, The Mushroom kingdom, The Dark Lands, The Ice Kingdom, The Kong kingdom and Rainbow road ALL felt distinct and flowed. I am IN LOVE with this movies asthetic. The action was perfectly paced, I would even say it matched and surpassed the flowing animation of Puss in boots Last wish.

Plot

So its pretty straight forward, Bowser tries to take over the kingdom, and he needs to be stopped. Mario and Luigi end up sucked into the mushroom kingdom trying to make a name for themselves as plumbers and get separated.

Mario ends up meeting Toad, Peach and Donkey Kong and the crew end up fighting Bowser and Saving Luigi. It starts as a trip to get reinforcements to fight the koopa army, turns into a race on rainbow road, then turns into a fight at a wedding and then finally a showdown in Brooklyn.

Mario and Luigi save the day and end up finding a connecting route to the the Mushroom kingdom and Brooklyn.

Now there is a LOT that happens in between these plot points and I will say it does feel a bit fast at times. But It is entertaining, Mario and Peach bond. And the scale and excitement never decreases. It is solid.

I wish more time could be spent in some places but thats mainly a pacing thing. and its the only real gripe I have.

Characters

I think I will break this up into multiple sections.

Mario: I will say it, the previews took all the worst bits of Chris Pratt's VA work. Because he actually did a bang up job, I didnt hear Chris Pratt, I heard Brooklyn Mario (And the Accents are explained to be part of the commercial which has Charles cameo AMAZINGLY done)

I liked Mario's character, he was a guy that wanted to prove himself and doesnt know when to quit. Mario also doesnt like mushrooms, it was funny. He can get down on himself, but push comes to shove he is Mario and will do anything for those he loves. He has some cute bonding moments with Peach and they have a good chemistry, which I can say could be romantic or not, both are fine ways of interpretation. His goal and lengths he is willing to go to save his brother are great and I love it. Mario is great in the movie.

Peach: I will admit, I was worried on how they handled peach here. I knew they were going to make her a girl boss. And I do think that she is not as Feminine or Charming as what one would expect from Peach... BUT she has the good heart and cares for her subjects. Which Peach will be self sacrificing to help her people, but also will do what she can to mess with Bowser. As shown in her fight at the wedding. She and Mario got a good dynamic and I enjoy the roll. Though I do like that she isnt invincible, she can be outmatched and there are things even she thinks are too risky.

Luigi: I feel robbed. Not because Luigi's performance was bad, FAR FROM IT. I wanted MORE Luigi. Luigi was captured for most of the movie and had the funniest bits. He also had his big hero moment and really helped drive home one of the big lessons. I am glad that he is supportive of brother and he thinks he is the coolest guy. The characterization of Luigi was PERFECT. But as mentioned before, I wanted more of him

Toad: He was a delight. I think he has great comedic moments and I love how he just claims Mario as his BFF. He gets really funny jokes and the bits are usually out of left field. My favorite has to be how he distracted the guards, I wont dare spoil it, but it involves a Frying pan.

Donkey Kong: I thought I would hate DK. I still am not sold on the voice... THAT BEING SAID. Donkey Kong being the show off big shot that cant see past his own ego and just wants his dad to be proud of him was not what I expected but enjoyed. He also has some good moments. One moment you think he is gonna bond with Mario over Dad issues but then left turn, he goes "Well your dad's right, you suck"

It just sort of works for them, they have this frenemies vibe that I love.

Bowser:

Bowser steals the movie. He is the funniest character. He is the best character. HE WROTE A LOVE BALLAD FOR PEACH called "Peaches". He is goofy yet Intimidating. Jack Black's voice for him was perfect and the Character acting was on point. Jack Black NAILED BOWSER. He is DEFACTO Bowser. I cant say enough of how amazing his bowser was. It was just so perfect.

The others: From Mario's extended family, The Koopas, Kamek, kranky, the Luma, The Penguins. I LOVED all the side characters. I cant name one I didnt enjoy. Shout out to the Blond Kong in a sports Blazer who casually caused a kart crash of a By-stander

Now Aside from Bowser I cant say the characters are deep, but they were not meant to be. They were what they needed to be. I enjoyed all the characters on screen and never felt myself loathing not seeing a certain character for longer.

solid 8/10 (Jack black and bowser are 10/10 tho)

So I wanted to give this a 10/10, but I cant.

I found some of the random 80's rock songs a bit out of place. It is Illumination.

But outside of those songs, when they are doing the mario music and themes they ARE GLORIOUS. Bowser's fury theme and the Remixed Star theme were my personal favorites

All of the mario music is beautifully crafted. You know papa nintendo made sure they did it justice.

Overall, 8/10

The 80's songs werent the worst pick but they werent needed. Should have just stuck with the mario stuff.

But... it is illumination.

Lesson

I wasnt expecting the Super mario bros Movie to have a lesson, and to my surprise it had 2 lessons.

Never give up. Mario shows throughout the entire movie his grit and determination no matter how much people look down on him or underestimate him. He got back up and kept fighting.

The power of Brotherly love. Luigi had faith in his brother who was always there for him. And he knew that things will be alright as long as they were together. And Luigi took it to heart, learning that what his brother said was true. Brotherly love made them invincible (well actually it was the power star, but it was because of that love they were able to get it.)

I am not gonna put it at the level of Puss in Boots the last wish. But its some good lessons

Overall, this movie, if you arent a Super Mario super fan, Is a solid 8/10

It has good characters, funny/hilarious slapstick and moments, fun action, and great for kids with a good lesson.

Oh please, please, please share your headcanons for ptolemus and wren. They're my faves and I'm starved for content of any kind lol!

My time has come...

Ptolemus has a lot of tattoos. He's a relatively chill dude, not like hyper violent at all times. If his first reaction is to resort to aggression, it is because that's how he was raised. Not as much of a misanthropist as his sister in the beginning of the books, but since he doesn't gain any further alliances (other than those close to his heart) by the end of them, he does end up surpassing her. Grows restless when bored, but he's easily entertained by casual human cruelty. Lots of bro type buddies but the only one he can stand and respects is Cal. (Yes, I'll push my Cal/Tolly bros agenda to the grave bc it's ridiculous VA didn't give Cal friends wtf. Also bc of ~angst~ and ✨drama✨ purposes) Reformed manwhore. When they were children he would nick his finger or scrape his knees on purpose to have an excuse to talk to Wren.

"You know my mom/uncle/cousin could heal this way faster, right?" she would ask, struggling to perform the most basic things since her powers hadn't "bloomed" yet.

Tolly would just stare dumbly at her and try to act tough like. "You were the closest I could find 🙄. Work faster." And add a "Please 🥺" after she gives him a cut the bullshit look.

Enter Wren, deeply compassionate but bound by duty for better or for worse (at least at the beginning). Academic queen. Despite growing up in the silver court, she resents the excess of violence they indulge in. Good friends with Elane. If she wasn't naturally a healer she might have made a good spy because she's great at picking up details and reading people. Not a fan of Ptolemus whole macho act. Doesn't bat an eyelash when he aggressively flirts with her as they grow older, or at his finely crafted attempts at seduction. Like cornering her against a bookshelf and reaching a book for her while looking at her with the full force of his panty-dropper gaze.

"Anatomy, uh? Need help to study that? I may know a perfect specimen of the male sex 😏."

To which she replies without batting an eyelash. "I already have a corpse on the dissecting table, thanks." Ducks under his arm and goes away. But secretly she's having a heart attack.

(Only simp men allowed in this house btw) Ptolemus grows increasingly frustrated, angry, and infatuated with her; she's just so enthralling when her hands delicately restore that which has been wounded, when they make whole what's missing. And he gets this feeling, like when they were kids, that he needs her in his life. That, despite her solid character, she's the softness he can't even allow himself to crave. And she's way too beautiful. Wren is so gorgeous it actually hurts (quoting TS)

Wren sees too more of the boy, almost man, that's nothing but a perfectly sharpened knife for his father to use at will. She sees the tender love he has for his sister beneath a shallow cold exterior. She wants to dive in the depths of the emotions he's been so well taught to hide, to go under the metaphorical scar tissue (bc in reality they don't have those) and reach the soft flesh, the beating heart. Wren wonders what it would be like to accept the dagger inside her heart, to allow herself the possible wound of a fling with such a ruthless man. Also, undeniably, he is a perfect specimen, especially when he's covered in his rivals' blood, face twisted in a wicked smirk.

Things finally change between them when she has to restore his hand after the events of KC. As she works, all pretenses are gone. He's just glad to have an excuse to have her close, glad they are on the same side of the war, it would have been a nightmare to be parted from her. And Wren gets to see the side of him she always knew was there. With her abilities she may restore his hand, but by coming together they restore each other's souls 🥺. And they make such a hot couple.

Yes Charlie Day and 90% of the other voice actors do very very poorly and I do say that as like. A Charlie Day and Lego Movie fan LOL like i know he is capable of doing a good VA performance. I know even Chr*s Pr*tt is capable and Jack Black is definitely capable and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) was good in Wendall & Wild. and Anya Taylor Joy could probably be good in an animated movie though I will not be vouching for her. but everyone was absolutely giving their worst performances on a terrible script with what i assume to be terrible directing

the only VA i actively enjoyed was Magikoopa voiced by (quick google search here) Kevin Michael Richardson, who is apparently a prolific VA so. that checks out!

i should make a longer post instead of dumping this all on you who simply wanted to know if Charlie Day was any good in the movie but like. GOD it's hard to say just one thing! Nothing worked! It was beautifully animated but that is boring at this point it's illumination. I genuinely was more entertained by the same level of animation during Minions (2015) and I wish so badly that i was lyinggg!!!!

also one more quick note Yes i am very hypercritical even of things i really enjoy BUT for perspective even my mom who primarily watches like. British cop shows. Said it sounded like the voice actors "weren't even trying"

okay, it’s over :)

first thoughts out of the way: not a big fan of this special. it’s like watching a completely different show. it’s not got the PZSHAHH of the normal wizard city stuff and there weren’t a lot of funny jokes or even hearty moments in the thing.

it suffers from a lack of invested character interactions, much like BMO did. there was not a single main cast member in the whole thing! and like i said before, much of peppermint butler’s character in the show is based on his very sweet relationship to his mother, princess bubblegum, so when they showed a single (hilarious) photo of them together it made me sad we didn’t get any scenes with them together. it would have STOLEN this episode. and they teased the hunson golf photo, and death!!! and jake appeared in a photo T_T last jake appearance.

it also suffers because Peppermint Butler is clearly not himself, imo he was way more entertaining in the Together Again special, where we seem him back to his “normal” self.

i dont think peps being a dark wizard was something to “kill off” exactly. i wonder what was going on there? was that actually peps, or was that a spirit he cursed himself with based on himself? we at least know in the future he does become a dark wizard again, and even princess :) this special didn’t answer those questions but lol.

THE GOOD STUFF, because yes, there was a lot of good stuff!

God, I’m with Aracle and Maya on this - I LOVE Cadebra and her relationship to Pep. I wish she was even in more of this - I would love to watch the adventures of Cadebra and Pepbut in their first year of school, like in the end credits.

That, imo, is where the heart of the special lay - Peppermint Butler’s attempts to impress himself, versus Cadebra’s self acceptance and desire to follow her dreams of being a goofy goober, no matter what other people thought of her.

It turned out that Cadebra is a responsible student and family member. I really liked that. Her scenes with Abracadaniel were, somehow, my favourite in the entire special!

I like that theres a lot of cool magic towards the end of this special, and a lot of HORRIFYING DEATH. It wouldn’t be adventure time if you didn’t randomly kill off child characters. Poor Spader, I hated you but damn, what a grim fate.

I like that Bufo and Caledonius had this crush/hatred thing going on, but they were part of the same cult in the end.

I didn’t like the giant peps scene at the end, the monster was extremely milquetoast compared to the madness we usually get in AT. Obsidian, for example, had the awesome Larvo design. Nemesis had some INSANE dark magic!!!! I wish they drew more from that episode.

Considering how much Steve Little appears in this special, I do feel bad for Mace (little Peps). He said he would have really benefitted from coaching, but recieved none. He had to re-record his lines 3 times! Judging from his description of events, Wizard City was a hard time for him.

The wizard school did remind me, heavily, of both The Owl House and OK KO. Personally I was hoping AT would offer me something more insane, but I do love both of those shows, and I know Wizard City was on a really tight schedule.

I think they should have spent less time on the school bullying plot, and skipped straight to MURDER.

We did have a cold opening, not on par with Together Again’s at all, but damn!

I am wondering where I would put this in the watch list? I do think it should sit after Obsidian as the third special. The intro scene makes it clear this takes place at the same time as Obsidian!!!

Well, that was it, the last ep of AT for the next few years at least T_T

i think together again was the better finale, definitely. but wizard city feels pretty detached from AT for me, despite the familiar characters it tonally isn’t like the show other than the awesome brutal death scenes. I thought the last 11 minutes was easily the best in the special! Which, honestly, is how it should be, though I do wish it gripped me more. Maybe I’m just not the target audience for Wizard City? It feels like something I would find very compelling if I was a bit younger!

Random Danganronpa Thoughts

And speaking of two actors who both do great as a character, I was thinking about Brian Beacock as the voice of Monokuma in the games VS Greg Ayres as the voice of Monokuma in the anime, and where both of them deliver regardless of which of them you prefer.

In terms of which VA is more “the character”, as in which one better represents and replicates the intention behind how Monokuma was meant to vocally sound, I have to give that to Brian Beacock. The casting of Nobuyo Oyama, iconic voice of Doraemon, to voice Monokuma in the original Japanese versions of DR1, DR2, and The Animation, was a very intentional choice due to the unsettling whiplash effect it would create in players’ heads - they’d be hearing this whimsical, saccharine, cutesy and kid-friendly character voice saying all sorts of apalling, horrible things, gushing about murder and despair, and even sentencing people to death. The dissonance is even brought up in-story. “The voice seemed totally out of place. It was so playful, so unconcerned. I couldn’t help but feel a deep, unnerving dread at the sound of it. It was like hearing someone laugh at the scene of an accident.” The best English equivalent would be like if they had someone like Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen, Tom Kenny, or Dee Bradley Baker doing Monokuma’s voice, but that obviously couldn’t be done. However, when Beacock really grew into the role and ironed out his voice for Monokuma, he did end up going with a very Dee Bradley Baker-esque character voice that fits the bear perfectly, making him sound as silly as he is unsettling, vulgar and crazed, which makes him such an entertaining presence.

However, in terms of which VA I think captures more of what is the pure distilled essence of the character and what that character would likely sound like in-universe? I give that to Greg Ayres, hands down. Because in-universe, in the world that the narrative takes place in and to the other characters in it, what is Monokuma? He’s a robotic plush bear who is being remotely controlled by a psychopath, who also does all the speaking through him. This is shown clearly in the final chapter of DR1 when Hina ends up controlling and speaking through a Monokuma in the Mastermind’s room that had been vacant beforehand so her words come out but in Monokuma’s default voice, and then later in the final trial we see that Monokuma is literally one of Junko’s mutliple personas she takes on, with her speaking in her own Monokuma voice not filtered through the default voice that’s programmed into the bear. The “Monokuma and Junko are one in the same” thing is even clearer in DR2, where AI Monokuma literally transforms into AI Junko in the final trial. So Ayres’ vocal portrayal of Monokuma actually sells this more, like Junko is putting on a cheery kids entertainment character voice that comes through the bear, but the truly unhinged, monstrous maniac behind the voice slips through at various points, particularly during the second half of the story.

Basically you could say that Beacock does a perfectly fitting “Doylist Monokuma”, but Ayres conveys the perfect “Watsonian Monokuma.” On the matter of preference, I personally lean more towards Ayres’ rendition because he was just so entertaining and so on point from start to finish, whereas Beacock really struggled under lacking direction and having to find his voice in DR1 before improving and killing it in DR2 (and then there was this weird occurance in the first half of V3 where he’d been so out of it for too long that he made Monokuma sound overly saccharine, shrill and Mickey Mouse-esque before settling back into his DR2 voice and performance quality.) But they both did great Monokumas the same way both Tim Curry and Bill Skarsgard did great Pennywises. Having a preference to the latter over the former doesn’t mean I’d sell Tim Fucking Curry short!

Crown Prince Li Kaiqing, Chen Ji, and Fushui

MAJOR spoilers for 《骊歌行》 Court Lady (2021)!!! This is just me blabbing about my feelings.

so we all knew that Crown Prince (CP) and Chen Ji (CJ) were gonna be BE cuz they have historical prototypes. after Chengxin was executed, Li Chengqian grieved for a long time, refusing to attend court and also building a shrine for him in the palaces.

well, even with that knowledge, i still cried like a little baby at the end of the drama. there’s not a single un-sad 感情线 in this entire show, but i really do think that the mess of these three is tragic.

before we dive into the mess that i’ve become, a huge round of applause to Li Zefeng for his amazing portrayal of the Crown Prince—the good-intentioned, sort of foolish boy that we first meet and then later the wide-eyed, paranoid, remorseless man. and of course similar props to Wang Yizhe’s two roles of sweet Chen Ji and scheming Fushui (and Sun Langlang for voicing them! Wang Zhi’s VA!).

so as i’ve already said, CP is really a whole different person after CJ dies. and the contrast between CJ and Fushui (FS) is very plainly evident: CJ dressed in pale white-blue, FS mostly in grey-black; CJ kept his hair loose, FS wears a bun (or hat, when he rises thru the ranks); CJ is a lowly palace entertainer, FS is well-trained in combat and medicine (and ends up as Senior Imperial Physician, somehow); CJ was terrible at weiqi, FS is good at weiqi but pretends to be bad at it. CJ was targeted and subjected to rumors, but no one dared question CP’s relationship with FS—because CP was in so much grief after CJ died, how could anyone bear to do that to CP again? even though FS was absolutely the one that everyone should have removed from CP’s side immediately…

when CP and CJ first meet in episode 7, CP is kind of a typical princely character: he’s kinda entitled, the world is his, his future is bright… and i firmly believe he 一见钟情 because while CJ still treated him with courtesy and respect, it’s obvious that CJ didn’t expect or want anything from him. and this continues in episode 9, when CP is trying to clear his thoughts by the riverside and runs into CJ who is fishing: CP brattishly orders CJ to stay and keep him company, and CJ is honestly more confused than anything as to why the freaking Crown Prince of the country wants to spend the whole goddamn day here. of course, it’s because CJ represents a freedom for CP: here, the Emperor won’t compare him to Prince Zhou or Prince Han; here, the Empress won’t admonish him over and over again; here, there’s no scheming advisors who try to curry favor with him. here, as CP tells CJ to use, it’s just “you and I” without care for rank or formalities.

(but also the death flag in episode 9 was atrociously obvious LOL with CP promising “I will make you a grave” to CJ’s absolute terror. on-the-nose. still made me sad later on, so that’s that i guess. in any case, the episode ends with a 定情信物 whereupon CP gives a jade from his belt to CJ.)

CP watches CJ perform (as he is an entertainer from Prince Han’s mansion) for the first time in episode 10, and we see it again in episode 12, episode 16, and episode 17. based off 《三国演义》Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the lyrics are as follows:

大丈夫只患功名不立 A great man should only worry about not gaining fame and honor/

何患无妻 Why worry over not having a wife/

舍生忘死报恩住 Leaving behind life and death to repay my Lord/

忠肝义胆待友朋 Treat my friends with righteous loyalty/

我要做有血性的英雄 I want to be a hot-blooded hero/

为义而生 To live for righteousness (loyalty)/

为义而死 To die for righteousness (loyalty)

CJ plays the main role of Zhao Zilong (Zhao Yun), and he helpfully compares the story to a game of weiqi in episode 16.

“A gambit [sacrificing insignificant pieces to protect the significant ones] is what Zhao Zilong did in the Battle of Changban. In order for Zhao Zilong to save A Dou, he couldn’t save Madam Gan. So, Madam Gan committed suicide. Isn’t Madam Gan a gambit?”

to which CP responds: “Thank goodness you are Zhao Zilong, and not Madam Gan.”

CJ: “The Crown Prince regards me as his soulmate [知己]. Even if in the future, the Crown Prince were to sacrifice me as a gambit, I would be willing.”

CP: “What are you saying? You and I are friends. No matter what happens in the future, I will never treat you as a sacrificial gambit.”

(so, like, death flags everywhere! 知己-mention! and, c’mon, i think for CP’s consort to be jealous/insecure is a little bit justified considering the amount of times CP has CJ perform this piece with a line like “Why worry over not having a wife”.)

backing up for just a moment before everything goes to shit, other notable events are CP finding out his wife is pregnant in episode 13 (but he spends the day fishing and then cooking the fish with CJ at the riverside, and they walk off with arms draped around each other’s shoulders), CJ hurting his leg after climbing a cliffside to pick red flowers after CP mentioned his wife loves the color red most in episode 14, and finally CP leading a blindfolded CJ to a new house just for him to tick off another romance-y trope in episode 15.

CP: “Didn’t you say you didn’t have a home? So I bought you this little estate. When you fall in love someday, have children, and have a great career, this will be your home.”

(the point is they’re both still kind of in a honeymoon phase right now, tho it ends quickly in episode 16 when our FL Fu Rou warns CJ against being so close to CP—but CP is a little bit too idealistic right now, a little bit too stuck in his blissful fantasy, a little bit foolish. foolish, and incompetent, and unable to protect the people he loves bc he unwittingly endangered them to begin with.)

of course, things come to a head in episode 17 when CP’s wife tells her sister about CJ, leading to the Emperor eventually finding out. but while that’s happening, CP goes to see CJ at the estate he bought for him.

CP: In the future, I won’t come here anymore. Therefore, let’s put aside differences for today and be friends like we used to. We will never have those kinds of days again.

CJ confesses he’s going to leave Chang’an: I want to learn swordsmanship well, and become a wandering hero, feeling at home wherever I am. When the Crown Prince becomes Emperor in the future, I can help you take care of bad guys along my journey out there. This will be my way of helping the Crown Prince to keep the empire stable.

CP gives his dagger to CJ: This is not a reward, but a gift for my friend who is about to leave. In the future, whenever you look at it, it will be like looking at me.

CJ: A gift from my soulmate. Chen Ji will definitely take good care of it.

(for ppl who’ve watched Qing Ya Ji, the parallel to Zhongxing and Fangyue here killed me. but there’s also a parallel within the show itself near the end when Fu Rou gives the Emperor a collection of scrolls and explains that the late Empress hoped that he would treat her writings like he were seeing her—one of Court Lady’s many confirmations that CP and CJ should be read as a romantically by paralleling it to visible, het relationships. ALSO, CP has CJ perform Zhao Zilong again right after this conversation, like a last nail in the coffin.)

so the Emperor finds out in episode 18 and angrily orders CP to kill CJ himself, lest he be stripped of rank. Fu Rou warns CJ, but he refuses to escape.

If I run away, the Crown Prince will not be able to fulfill the Emperor’s order—what would happen to the Crown Prince? […] Life and death are not the most important things; the most important thing is to stay true to yourself.

and so CJ unsheathes the dagger CP gave him.

The Crown Prince regards Chen Ji as his soulmate, Chen Ji also regards the Crown Prince as his soulmate. ‘A man of service dies for the one who knows him.’ (An upright man can die for his soulmate.)

CJ quotes “士为知己者死” from Sima Qian’s 《史記·刺客列傳》Records of the Grand Historian, tho if you’ve watched Winter Begonia, it should probably also look familiar.

CP pushes aside the soldiers who’ve accompanied him on the journey to CJ’s home, but it’s too late: CJ took his own life, using the weapon CP gave him, in order to protect CP.

the chorus of Lu Hu’s 《万里》 Ten Thousand Li plays as CP staggers toward CJ’s lifeless body.

呼吸，想着你, When I breathe, I think of you

在梦里，在心里, In my dreams, in my heart

怪完相遇，怪自己, After I’ve finished blaming that we encountered each other, I blame myself

别离，痛彻心扉！Farewell, my heart is broken

(this is a song from the OST we hear multiple times with the other couples in the drama—and we also see many couples by the same river that CP and CJ would fish together by. i think, like, all the couples associated with this song except our main one have a BE…)

in CP’s immense grief, he has the weiqi pieces from his last game with CJ glued to the board, never to be moved again, and he has the flowerbed outside flattened. we get our callback to episode 9: “Chen Ji has no family. I promised him that if he died, I would make him a grave.”

CP doesn’t meet FS until episode 37, but what the Emperor says in episode 19 about Chen Ji is what really makes the whole thing a tragedy.

You must be cautious when choosing friends. He would only have misguided you.

and that’s the thing, the Emperor isn’t wrong!!! it ultimately truly is the Crown Prince’s love for Chen Ji that destroys him. his love for Chen Ji ruins him, ruins the imperial family and threatens the dynasty as a whole. because when Fushui shows up, a man who shares Chen Ji’s face, the Crown Prince trusts him unconditionally—it’s the Crown Prince’s desperation to see any small part of Chen Ji again that leaves him vulnerable to FS’s manipulation: CP forgets who he truly is. because how could a man who looks like Chen Ji ever betray him?

CP is thrown from his horse in episode 37, striking his head upon a rock.

he wonders: Chen Ji, have I also died? Did you come here just to pick me up?

(but of course it’s FS, who was actually going to kill him but the soldiers arrived too quickly.) they meet officially in episode 38.

CP: I thought I was going to die. Dimly, I felt someone approach me—he wanted to save me. I originally thought it was Chen Ji who couldn’t bear for me to die, so his spirit appeared. I didn’t expect that it was you.

FS remarks that CP has brought up “Chen Ji” several times already; immediately, he understands that this is a weakness to exploit.

CP basically throws a temper tantrum in episode 39 when he discovers he will have a permanent limp from now on. (idk if it was an intentional parallel, but CJ also had a limp after falling from the cliffside in episode 14.) FS is the only person that CP allows to approach him, and FS gets him to eat grilled fish (which is apparently CP’s favorite food—how much of the people we love do we carry with us?)

FS acts innocent: I really am bad at lying; as soon as I lie, you see right through me.

it’s everything CP wants to hear.

CP tells him: When I fell off my horse, and was on my last breath, you came to my side and encouraged me to continue living. I’m now crippled and in despair, but you talked sense into me to eat grilled fish. Everything that has happened—if it were Chen Ji, he would also have talked sense into me, encouraged me. Sometimes, I feel that you are Chen Ji, just with a different face.

(obviously it’s the same face for us tho cuz he’s played by the same guy. but anyway, when FS comes clean about everything in episode 51, he mimics the words CP says here.

I am not Chen Ji. I, Yang Fushui, came to your side to find an opportunity to take revenge.)

back to episode 39, FS says he doesn’t want to be “another Chen Ji” because he doesn’t want to die so young—he’s afraid of death.

CP: I guarantee you that I won’t let anyone harm you. What happened to Chen Ji will never happen to you.

(and it’s true! FS gets away with so much goddamn shit because CP’s wife doesn’t dare criticize FS, and even the Emperor doesn’t after knowing what it’s like to see his son in such heavy grief. CP’s wife thinks this is her chance at making amends; she felt real remorse after CJ died, and honestly that line from It’s Quiet Uptown sums it up best: “If I could trade his life for mine/He'd be standing here right now/And you would smile and that would be enough.” a shame, of course, that CP was FS’s freaking main target. nobody wants to repeat the tragedy of Chen Ji, so no one questions Fushui.)

but, like, FS isn’t truly even that subtle—it’s just that CP is so blinded by his love for CJ. from episode 46:

CP: I have taught you for so long, but you’re still terrible at playing.

FS: I am doing it on purpose. Only if I play poorly, will the Crown Prince be willing to continue teaching me.”

CP: Even you put on an act before me? […] You are the person I trust the most. Don’t lie to me.

(太子，你醒醒吧!)

so FS successfully sows discord between CP and his brother Prince Han; the Empress passes away (always sickly, but her illness was very much exacerbated upon seeing her beloved sons turn on each other); CP’s wife kills her own sister in what she believes is a beneficial political move for CP; Prince Han’s wife is wrongfully executed; Sheng Chujun is killed and silenced too after he discovers FS’s plans. CP stages a coup against Prince Han. (the man who looks like Chen Ji must only want the best for him, right?) FS gets away with everything and goes to visit CP in prison in episode 51.

AND HERE! HERE! FS is supposed to kill CP; that’s been his goal from the very beginning. CP hasn’t eaten for days in the prison, but FS shows up with a grilled fish and CP eats without a second thought that it could be poisoned.

but. FS has been at CP’s side for so long now. he’s orchestrated CP to lose everything. there is nothing left that CP could give to him but the mere fact that he’s still breathing.

in episode 49, FS poisons Lian Yan’er and Yan Zifang is obviously upset on behalf of blissfully ignorant, head-over-heels Ma Haihu.

FS: I will kill whoever gets in my way.

YZF: What about someone you love? If it was someone you loved, you would be just as ruthless, right?

FS: It is human nature to be greedy and selfish. Where does love come into play? This question—you’ve asked the wrong person.

(but FS’s expression changes. someone he loves? he’s startled, he looks afraid.)

FS ruined CP’s life; and at the same time, gave CP reason to live again. CP started playing weiqi again, his relationship with his wife improved; he started smiling again. there was a passionate fire to him that he never had before (this was his second chance to do everything right, to protect the people he loves!)... the kindling, unfortunately, was his trust in Prince Han and his parents. from episode 39, FS comes in and sits down next to CP after CP trashes his room during his tantrum.

CP: Do you know why I treat you differently from other people?

FS: Because I remind Your Highness of your friend who already passed away—Chen Ji?

CP never stopped loving CJ; he loved Fushui, because he never stopped treating him as Chen Ji. after the failed coup against Prince Han, CP smiles in prison in episode 51 when FS visits him.

CP: It was fate who made us each other's soulmate [知己]. [...] If you can continue living well, I wish that you live your life to the fullest, with both smiles and tears.

how can Fushui bear to take the Crown Prince’s life when he’s received nothing but unwavering trust from him? when he explains who he truly is, when he calls CP foolish for trusting the wrong person, FS is on the brink of tears. his mouth trembles, his breaths shake. when the poison begins to take effect, and CP agonizingly reaches for him, FS takes his hand—just as CP gripped CJ’s lifeless hand so long ago, just as CP reached out to the person he thought was CJ when he fell from his horse. FS takes his hand, sobs, and gives him the antidote.

(Consort Yan’s eunuch is, of course, outraged.

Yu He: If you can’t bear to kill him, then I will!

Fushui: I forbid you. [...] He has nothing left to lose. I forbid you from killing him.)

so, we have the Crown Prince, ruined by his love for Chen Ji—and Fushui, who both took and freely gave the Crown Prince’s life back to him. it’s a love story; it has always been a love story.

and finally, FS gets Ma Haihu killed in episode 53. he picks up the comb MHH carved for Lian Yan’er (a 定情信物!), and when he speaks, ends up telling the story of CP and CJ as well.

There was a woman who sacrificed her life for your bright future. You only needed to enjoy it, yet you took the road of self-destruction.

and then he remembers what CP said to him in the prison in episode 51.

CP: If, in this world, fate truly exists, then so do the hearts of men.

FS remarks now: If you have a heart, you will be easily hurt, or even lose your life.

heartless Fushui, who kills without batting an eye, who nearly upturned the entire Tang dynasty, who doesn’t know of love. in the end, he couldn’t bear to end the Crown Prince’s life.

so, yeah. these three broke my heart. i really wonder what Chen Ji would say to the Crown Prince when they see each other again at last in the afterlife. what the Crown Prince would say to Chen Ji. how violent love can be. what it means to live in someone’s memory. or maybe they would return to the river and spend a long day fishing together again.

Random Plot and World-building stuff

Sorcier Entertainment is the biggest entertainment business for the past 2 decades, bringing out and producing the best quality of idols, actors, models, composers, musicians, DJs etc. It is a parent company to a lot of branches and agencies.

Sorcier Pro. is the main sub-branch of SorEn, being the most popular agency for producing the current hit in the market, which are idols. There a few other agencies within SorEn, but they wont be important until later. Geoffrey Stuart is the president of Sorcier Entertainment, and is the overseer of the main idol branch (no one knows why though, probably bc his lil bros are there). Entertainment is such an important and prevalent part of Society that the combination of the Stuarts holding power of the the entertainment industry, as well as Mr. Stuart being the prime minister, they are truly considered to be the most influential family in the country, which is added by the fact that every member of the family is an outstanding and well-respect individual.

Sorcier Pro. has a variety of high quality facilities for their idols, and even had a dormitory where they can stay in. This was done for the sake of maximizing the idol’s work hours while giving them a comfortable and accessible place of rest. Not all idols are living in the dormitories, and is usually just housing the popular ones at the time.

All of the main characters (except Sirius, and Villainess!Katarina) are living in the dormitory during the events of the “game”. Nicol and Sophia has rooms there, but they usually return to their home because they are more comfortable there. Katarina and Keith also regularly visit their parents whenever they are free, so their stay is a 50/50. Maria doesn’t visit her mother often (as her house is too far from her private school and work) so she’s always at the dorms.

A lot of the well known powerful, political and celebrity families (that are the equivalent to “nobles” in this world) are collaborators and sponsors of the company, one of the main sponsors being the Claes Family.

I thought of just making the setting an “Idol Academy” like in Aikatsu! and EnStars!, but I though nah, that’s just too easy. Industry idols are much more interesting to me, and that plot works better for a “idol rhythm game/producer simulator”, specifically for what M.C. gets to do in the game (plus I was listening to IM@S when writing the first part so hgfsdjhfdgsj)

Most prestigious families has their kids be home-schooled, especially ones that are involved in the entertainment industry. This is so that they can focus on their career while they are still young. The exception to this was Maria, until she became an idol and had to take a hiatus from school as Sorcier Pro. expects her to focus on expanding her career. She takes supplementary classes on the weekends.

Katarina’s solo unit name in Fortune Lover is Nobelia (a combination of “nobilis or noble” and “lobelia”, the blue flower of malevolence or evil). She sometimes gets temporary teammates to join for tournaments and projects, but she is a solo idol.

So the units are Fortuna (Gerald, Keith, Alan and Nicol), Amour (Maria, Sophia, and Mary), Nobelia (Katarina solo), Picotee (Sophia solo), Marigold (Mary solo), Alcea (Maria solo), Regalis (Gerald and Alan), Edel Herz (Keith and Nicol).

The name’s origins being: Fortuna as the greek of ‘Fortune’, Amour as the french of ‘Love’, Picotee as the dual colored flower (that can be white and red), Marigold (bc obviously) as the flower of passion, Alcea from alcea rosea (the pink hollyhock, which almost means strength and healing), Regalis as a root word/synonym to royal/royalty, Edel Herz being just a google translate of “noble heart” in german teehee (pls appreciate all the googling I had to do dhfgsjhfdg yes it’s mostly flower names bc I have no originality)

Idols don’t really need a stage name if they are a solo idol, but most popular idols are associated with one so it just became a trend to have both stage names and unit names.

In the original game, Maria’s default stage name is “Cinderella”, which you can then change into the username or player name. This is so that Maria can keep her name while still giving the players a custom name.

Maria’s original stage name is a nod to a lot of things: the “Cindrella syndrome” that her character is based on, The name of Fortuna’s fans/fanbase (as most players really are a fan of the boys), and is also a reference to how you are the main love interest for the boys (as you are their true Cinderella)

Katarina doesn’t retain the same stage name “Nobelia” as Villainess!Katarina does, in fear that it might her more similar to her, leading her to a doom end. She doesn’t have a stage name, unlike her friends. Her fans would call her “Bakarina” online though, but she never finds out about it jhagjsfg

Fortuna is an all-around male idol unit, one that can take on different images and genres with ease. The image of the unit changes depending on which boy is the center/lead of the song:

With Gerald, the music focuses on the instrumentals or the orchestra, giving a royal or heavenly vibe. The songs have an emphasis on righteousness, the beauty of life and a prosperous future. The songs for the fans usually has a theme of “reminiscent love” or “looking forward to a future with their partner”. A good example of a unit center song for his is Genuine Revelation from EnStars, and Flower as a solo song from his VA

With Keith, the music becomes more mature. The songs have more seductive lyrics, and has an emphasis on “forbidden love” or “having a secret relationship” with the fans. The lyrics are usually innocent in nature, until you read in-between the lines. Sometimes, his center songs throw a curveball and becomes about a “pure and innocent love” or “longing to be loved”. A good example for his solo song is Gekkoujou no Aria from A3 (please listen to it, it’s by Keith’s VA and the lyrics screams “Keith”)

With Alan, the guitar, violin and piano take the center stage.The music usually has more instrumentals than lyrics. The songs are primarily about being one’s true self, loving who you are and looking back at the past. Friendship and Identity are common themes in his songs. Sometimes, his center songs would throw a curve ball and be about something like “not acknowledging one’s feelings until it is too late”. A good song that represents his usually themes is Bokura no Kizuna from A3

With Nicol, the music is more slow and deep. The songs are usually about self-conflict, self-development and change. His songs sometimes have a theme of having an extreme adoration for the fans, a love so strong that time nor age can make it falter. “Being the only one for him” is the theme of his more popular songs. A good example for his solo song is Sword and Soul from his very own VA!

Yeah, basically the image of the center idol is reflected in the performance.

I don’t have a full list of idol song recommendations yet, but my friend who i mentioned above already recommended a bunch of good duo songs for the boys!: (feel free to suggest stuff if you guys have any :DD)

In the original game, all four boys we’re scouted while the girls all auditioned to become idols. Now, since they are all close friends, Gerald was able to market the talents of his friends and was able to get them all scouted into Sorcier Production.

Fortuna has a producer before Maria, but by the beginning of the game, he had to leave due to health reasons, leading to the sudden application for a new producer. While many producers offered to take care of the boys alongside their other idols, Fortuna insisted that they want a new producer who would focus solely on them.

Mary and Sophia also have their own producers, but they are barely present because they are busy handing other idols (and eventually, will let go of Mary and Sophia once they decide that they want Maria to produce them)

While Fortuna, Mary and Sophia’s careers were able to skyrocket quickly do to their appeals and talents, Katarina’s career grew slowly compared to her friends. This is because, despite to protests of her Producer Anne, she usually takes smaller gigs in far away towns, malls and small live houses. This is because Katarina wanted to perform in front of people who can’t easily access or attend live performances outside of the internet, just like her own small town in her previous life. She knew how happy she’d feel if there was an idol performance near her area, so she wanted to share that joy to other people.

Katarina doesn’t join her friends in doing acting and modeling jobs until much later, when Maria joins their group.

Anne Shelley acts as Katarina’s fitness instructor, personal health manager, and producer. She was brought into Katarina’s life even before she regained her memories, only exclusively as a health manager recommended to the Claes Family. She ended up taking on more jobs that involves watching over Katarina as the years pass by, as the young girl started gaining more and more interests and hobbies. Katarina wonders how Anne is able to be qualified for so many jobs, but she just sums it up as Anne being amazing! (Katarina: I guess she’s kind of like a maid!... or a babysitter...) Anne was (somehow) able to become a producer in Sorcier Productions and was easily recommended for Katarina due to their history. Anne cares a lot about Katarina in her happiness, and will do anything to support her (both version of her, in fact), so much that she is willing to juggle so many careers in order to stay by her side.

Katarina has a small farm that she tends to in her free time (since she doesn’t get a lot of job offers in the first place) that is located in the garden grounds near the main office of Sorcier Pro. Her visitors/helpers differ each day, depending on who is available (and who intentionally made themselves available to make sure they can spend as much time as they can with Katarina)

While her friends constantly get fan mail, the delivery man is always wondering why Katarina always specifically gets a small light box. In reality, it’s packages sent by Tom the gardener, from the Claes Mansion, showing her all his new prototypes for the snake toy. While Katarina first started out as making them out of paper before deciding on buying them online, she knew her family would be suspicious and question why she’s making such a purchase, so she was surprised when Tom started joining her in making fake snakes, until the snakes started to look even more realistic than the plastic ones online!

Maria Campbell: A Girl Chosen by Destiny

Since “Maria” is an involved protagonist, she gets to keep her name in the game, with her idol alias being the “username”of the player

Just like in HameFura, the game doesn’t give much on Maria’s actual history.

The game does have an implied personality for her, being a kind and hardworking girl who puts all her focus on the task at hand. The game implies that she is also a bit introverted, with her personality becoming more open and outgoing as the game progresses (implied through the slight changes in dialogue choices).

She’s a bit of a country bumpkin who moved into the big city in order to experience the world outside her town. She was able to gain a scholarship to a school in the city, and moved alone to stay with her aunt from her father’s side.

Due to her father leaving the family when she was young to due to rumors that she might be the daughter of a different man, Maria’s relationship with her mother is still very strayed. Thanks to these rumors, her father left her and her mother when she was young, and her town heavily criticized the two for the adultery that her mother apparently committed. These rumors stemmed form the fact that even as a child, Maria was beautiful (with clear blue eyes and bright blonde hair, that are in contrast to her mother’s dull eyes and dull hair). While her mother was fare-faced, the appearance that Maria had was usually associated with celebrities or artists, making people believe that Maria didn’t come from her father. Despite Maria’s mother claiming that none of it was true, the rumors got so out of hand that Maria’s father became ashamed of his family, leading him to leave without a word.

In the beginning of the game, she stayed with an Aunt from her father’s side, on the condition that she somehow pays the bills by herself, leading her to want to get a job.

Maria saw the announcement of Sorcier Production being in need of new staff, so she applied quickly in order to start saving money. Thanks to a set of misunderstandings, she accidentally got the role as a producer, despite her lack of credentials (not knowing that she was the beginning of a big project of SorEn)

Maria is an extremely hardworking person, believing that if she worked hard enough, she will be one day rewarded with the love that she’s always dreamed of receiving. Fortune Lover makes you think that Maria is naturally able to produce 7 idols, but in reality, it’s at the expense of Maria overworking herself to the bone, with almost no time for herself at all. Sometimes she sleeps in her small desk office instead of the household that she’s paying the bills of, in order to maximize her work hours. She dedicates every second that she has on the four boys, so when they shower her with love and attention, she was able to easily fall in love with them as well (and sadly becomes dependent on their validation as a personal reward for her efforts).

A month before one of Fortuna’s biggest live performance (or a little bit after Maria joins them as their producer), Maria oversaw the training of another idol who came to her and ask for help (not knowing that she was just trying to get close to Maria to get close with the Fortuna boys). Maria helped her train her dancing and singing, and even memorized her choreography in order to critique her steps. She became too dedicated in helping that idol improve, thinking that the girl wanted to be friends with her. When the event happened, the female idol was hit with bad karma and injured her leg just as the live started, leaving her unable to perform. This causes an uproar among the staff, as the set list was too complicated to change in such short notice. Gerald, who is aware that Maria has been helping their colleague, encourages Maria to take her place since she knew the lyrics and the dance. Thanks to the encouragement of the boys, Maria debuts in front of a huge crowd, gaining instant popularity as the cinderella idol that saved the live event.

Most of Maria’s job as a producer in arranging the schedules of the boys, staying in contact with their costume designer, staying in contact with their personal composers and lyricists, sorting through job offers, keeping watch of their health, watching them while they practice and accompanying them in their jobs. When she isn’t there to accompany any of them, another producer temporarily takes her place.

As Maria’s popularity increases, she is given job offers that prevents her from focusing on being a producer. Since the boys are very fond of Maria, they are very encouraging of her desire to become an idol too, and offers to help support her and themselves moving forward.

The game itself doesn’t make the changes in Maria’s occupation obvious, since Maria’s idol life is only prevalent in the Idol Rhythm Game Mode, but in reality the increase in workload is slowly eating her up (not that she’d let anyone know that)

Maria, as an idol, gets constantly harassed by her peers (especially Katarina) for being a nobody idol who took the spotlight away from them, as well as for being a close ally to Fortuna. A lot of scenes in the story mode is the boys saving her from the harassment (leading to a lot of good CG art that are sold as posters :P)

Depending on whose romance route you are on, Mary and Sophia start out as very hostile towards Maria, as her existence takes away the attention that their loved ones were supposed to give to them. Sophia warms up the fastest, as Maria’s lack of hostility towards her makes both her and Nicol easily attached. Even after the three starts as unit as Amour, Mary’s relationship with maria is mostly professional, before she slowly warms up to her somewhere near the end of the Alan Romance Route. The three can be considered friends, but they still seemed more like colleagues in the eyes of other people.

When Katarina meets Maria, she was very surprised to know that the Maria she played as in the game was a more humane person than the game shows up (somehow who isn’t perfect in every way, and works hard and long to be able to provide for both herself and the four boys)

Their meeting and friendship bloomed in the same way as the Otome Game version (because i’m too lazy to jot down every minor difference hgfjsdgf), surprising Katarina that baking hobby that was just mentioned in text or used as a plot device is actually real and flourishing, and is something she actively supported Maria.

Due to Katarina’s slow popularity gain, and Maria being a novice idol, they usually took and accepted jobs together since they both needed a boost. Instead of the quick burst of popularity that Maria has in the game, this time she wants to take each step slowly with Katarina, with the desire for them to grow at the same time.

Since Katarina is now aware of the hardships that Maria must be facing as both a producer and an idol, this time Katarina and Anne often help Maria with her paperwork and organization. Whenever Maria isn’t there to follow Gerald, Keith, Alan or Nicol, Anne now takes over if she’s available or she’d recommend a colleague that she knows would assist the boys like a pro.

Katarina insists that Maria doesn’t have to shoulder all her burden alone, and that she has all their friends around to help her and support her as they do with each other. Katarina tells her that it’s okay to ask for help and even offers her hand constantly (wow, Katarina can easily carry all these boxes of documents? My hero~) and Maria takes this lesson to heart.

Even though Maria felt nervous about joining Katarina’s friend group so suddenly, which even includes the very idols that she’s meant to watch over, Katarina was very insistent that Maria’s wonderful and warming presence would let her blend in so easily (Katarina isn’t aware of how the relationships of the characters were like in the original game since she never finished). Maria is eventually able to become friends with everyone, and is easily able to hold conversations with Mary and Sophia without Katarina around. Maria is there to act as a straight man to Mary’s exaggerated attempts at hindering the boy’s time with Katarina, and Maria often acts as an ear to Mary’s gossips about other idols. Maria, while not an avid fan of novels as Sophia and Katarina, can still join conversations about books by asking details, recommendations and insights on books she’s already read. Maria can easily get along with the boys as well, since they are in each other’s presence most of the time due to her role. They don’t hesitate to help Maria whenever they can (despite her resistance), and she’s usually the one who stops the arguments between Gerald and Keith whenever they are in the middle of a job.

Since Katarina ended p being so attached to Maria, the boys sometimes takes advantage of Maria’s role as a producer to have her work instead of attending to the woman of their affections (of course they feel somewhat bad about it, but it’s better than watching them look so love-struck with each other!) but it ends up backfiring when Katarina lets go of all her activities in favor of assisting Maria with her job as a producer.

Whenever Maria is free, she insists on borrowing the small kitchen in the Office in order to use the small over to bake some pastries and treats for her friends. Katarina constantly endorses the amazingness of Maria’s sweets, and they are both happy whenever their friends compliments the results of Maria’s hard work.

Compared to her work schedule in the game, Maria can now work comfortably as both an idol and a producer, thanks to the support and help of her friends.

Sirius Dieke: The 5th Love Interest

Sirius Dieke is a non-payable character in Fortune Lover, who usually appears in Gerald and Nicol’s stories and side story events to explain things about the world and the past relationship of the characters.

He is another idol in Sorcier Pro, and is an old friend to Nicol.

In reality, he’s actually a hidden character within the game that can only be playable if you get a Friendship Ending in the first playthrough. Getting a neural ending is already super hard, so Sirius being playable wasn’t revealed until two months after the game initial release. The game is so good at hiding this fact that not even the dataminers were able to find evidence of his existence outside of being an NPC.

Getting a Sirius Route is only possible in the New Game+ Mode, with story events and side story events dedicated to him alone. He only comes with only one new song though, so people in forums usually don’t recommend going to the Sirius Route in the second playthrough (unless you’re a completionist dgjfd)

There’s also the fact that Sirius’ Route has a completely different tone than the rest of the game. The developers of the game planned on removing his route in their game update, but due to the outcry of his fans, they kept it in, and even included a payed DLC where you can instantly unlock his route on your first playthrough.

In Sirius’ Route, it’s revealed that he was the son of a former celebrity and one of his maids, and that his real name is Raphael Wolt. His mother quited her job just before he was born. They were ultimately hunted down by Mrs. Dieke, who refused to believe that her husband had a mistress.

Raphael and his mother were kidnapped by people payed by Mrs. Dieke, and as his mother begged for her to spare their lives, Mrs. Dieke’s plans were revealed: Her own son is ill and was slowly dying from an illness, and in her jealousy of Raphael’s strong physique and health, she has decided to take Raphael as her own son, as both him and her original son both looked like their fathers more than their mothers.

In front of his eyes, Raphael’s mother was murdered in cold blood and Raphael was left to suffer from various degrees of shock therapy and blunt forces to the head in order to forcefully induce amnesia without killing him. He wakes up in the hospital bed with no memories of who he is, and Mrs. Dieke graciously plays the part of a concerned mother who is visiting her own son in order to sell the idea that Raphael is her own.

In the background, a news headline states that a mother and son was found dead in an abandoned warehouse.

The doctor tells Mrs. Dieke that her son “Sirius” might not recover his memories, and despite the glee in her voice, Mrs. Dieke acts and pretends to be devastated by the news. Unbeknownst to both of them, Sirius did eventually regain his lost memories over time and realizes that the woman claiming to be his mother is in fact the very person who had killed his only family.

Sirius learns that the reason Mrs. Dieke is so insistent on having a son was to be able to nurture and create a new star that would dazzle the entertainment world, with hopes of being able to live vicariously through her son’s career and success. Feeling disgust and hatred towards the woman that he is now forced to call “mother”, he plans to enact his revenge by destroying the entertainment world from the inside, exposing its ugliness to the world.

Sirius ends up becoming an idol because of the encouragement of his “mother”, leading him to be affiliated with Nicol and Gerald. He had already met them when they were all young, and he even planned to have them as allies in his quest to destroy the entertainment industry, only to find them as disappointingly bright eyed teens when they reunited.

When Sirius finds out that it was the effect of Maria Campbell, their new producer, he decided to wage war against her for acting as a thorn to his perfect plans. It’s revealed that a lot of the bullying scenarios in the story mode was orchestrated by Sirius himself, in an attempt to get maria to lose her reputation and her job.

Maria was able to trace back all the incidents to him, and confront him alone in the Office at night, before he left to go home. Sirius laughed and admitted to all of his past and crimes, and mocked Maria for having no proof against him. Instead of condemning him, Maria hugs him while telling him to change his ways. Despite the violent ways that he tries to get Maria off him, she doesn’t let go, trying to convince him that his way of acting in correspondence to his grief is wrong. Sirius cries as Maria spoke sense into him and dissected the flaws in his grand plan, until only the sound of his crying is left in the cold and empty office that day.

In Hamefura, When Sirius finds out that this was the effect of the “saint” Katarina Claes, he had orchestrated various events that could lead Katarina to being condemned by the public through her supposed “bullying” of the public darling Maria. This plans fails, so he plans on using Maria as a form of blackmail to get Katarina to leave the entertainment world in exchange for her friend’s safety. Maria disappears for a few days, causing her friends to be very worried for her, especially Katarina who is somewhat aware of the events that were occurring. During the search, she was able to find Sirius and tried to engage in some small talk, until she remembered a detail that her old friend Acchan said about a dark and secret love interest. Without any thought, Katarina questioned Sirius about Maria’s disappearance, surprising him with her sudden awareness.

Sirius admits to his crimes, and before Katarina can escape, Sirius hit her on the head so she can lose consciousness, but not before screaming about how he hates her ignorant enthusiasm, how she changed his pawns and made them better people, and how he wont let her take his heart and change him as well before he could enact his revenge, with tears in his eyes. This act leads to Katarina going unconscious for a few days. In this come state, Katarina was able to gain information from her old friend Acchan that she can use to save Sirius and Maria.

In the abandoned warehouse where “he” and his mother supposedly died, Sirius has Maria locked up, with no plans of letting her escape until he can guarantee that Katarina is out of the picture. He is shocked to find out that Katarina and her friends were able to find both of them; he goes on a rampage about how he wants to destroy the Dieke family and everyone associated with them and the cruel world they have created, before the feeling of despair and fear for his future leads him to almost taking his own life as a final escape.

Katarina stops him, and tells him that both of them has no future, as a secret love interest and as a villainess, and how she can’t save him the way Maria can. But that if anything else, she can a least stay by his side and take some of the weight off his shoulders, like what her friends have been doing for her since the beginning. Katarina calls him by his real name, Raphael Wolt, leading him to unlocking the final memory that he had lost from his temporary amnesia:

A memory of his mother, in her final moments, telling Raphael that she will always be by his side, and that she wishes for him to have a happy future, even if it wouldn’t have her in it. Katarina’s words made him realize that this wasn’t what his mother would wanted for him, leading him to see the error of his ways.

In both versions, it ends with Sirius turning himself in and confessing to the crimes of both him and Mrs. Dieke, leading to both of their arrest and the return/resurface of the Wolt Family murder case investigation. Sirius’ contract with Sorcier Entertainment gets terminated, and heavy manipulation of the media was used in order to prevent the story from coming into light.

Since Raphael lacked any crimes that would have him arrested, he was set free and left the Dieke family as it slowly fell apart from the controversy. He announced that he wants to spend his freedom as himself, but will one day come back to all of them as a better person.

Without Katarina realizing it, Raphael confesses that his rampage was caused by his fear of his desires for her and her company, and that he was scared that if she continued to open her arms to him in such an easy-going and warm fashion, he would lose all his will to have his revenge on the entertainment industry. Much to the annoyance of Katarina and Raphael’s friends, he takes her hand and promises to come back, to stay by her side, like she had promised to him.

In the Raphael Ending, Maria and Raphael meets again years later as both were on the way to work. Maria has already left the entertainment business and had no plans of returning, while Raphael became a changed man with a good heart and a steady job. Eventually, Maria was able to fall in love with the good man that Raphael was always meant to be/has become, and Raphael was able to rekindle the love and affection that he felt for Maria when they were still idols together.

Raphael had declared that he will back, better than ever! As an idol? who knows :3c But where will he go from here...?

Fortune Lover 2/Fortune Lover Re:Dive

Spoilers for Volume 3 of Hamefura and beyond, since this is about FL2

I’ve had a bunch of ideas that I’d like for Fortune Lover 2, but I’m not really sure if I want to put it out there because it seems too fanfiction-y in a way?

I feel like my ideas are straying far away from the original version, which disappoints me in a way, but then again, My Idol Game version of Fortune Lover is nothing like the Otome Game counterpart, so I’ll still write about it.

If you like the premise for an Idol Game style Fortune Lover, then feel free to just absorb the content above because for (my version of) Fortune Lover 2 to happen, Katarina will still get her bad end: Public Humiliation and Self-Banishment. I’ll save how it happens in part 4

In Fortune Lover 2, there would be 3 new produce-able idols, but in My Next Life as an Idol, there will be 5 new idols:

Fortune Lover 2 isn’t really a sequel, as it is like a bulkier and softly rewritten version of FL, like how Persona 3/4/5 remakes are to their original games.

FL2 introduces a new Idol Agency that is affiliated with Sorcier Entertainment: Mahouka Production (also known as MahoPro), a recently established talent agency created by a mysterious Director. Despite being new, they were able to quickly gain a following through the eccentric idols in their line-up.

With a longer story, halfway through the game you start being introduced to three new male idols: Sora Smith, Cyrus Lanchester and Dewey Percy. They are idols that are under MahoPro, who dislikes the idols of SorPro and claims to be their rivals.

They start out as rival characters in the game, taunting you (Maria) and the idols of Fortuna constantly for a few chapters. Some time after your initial introduction, you slowly get to know the boys, until you’re finally able to gain their trust. You can then start to secretly “produce” them without their Director knowing (just like Shika from IM@S Stella Stage), which leads to gaining events, scenes, idol clothes, songs and CGs of the three new boys.

As the new character gets introduced later into the story mode, they are more of an optional route, as the game still prioritizes the original 4 boys over the new cast. You can still “romance” the 3 new characters, but since they are introduced late, it can only be done at the expense of focusing on them almost exclusively during story events and side stories so that you can quickly gain Relationship Points for them.

So basically, halfway through the game, you have the option to produce 11 idols: Yourself (Maria), Gerald, Alan, Keith, Nicol, Mary, Sophia, Raphael, Sora, Dewey and Cyrus. The first 5 being obligatory, while the last 6 are optional

Rufus Smith (or “Sora”, as he reveals to you his real name during the story) is new idol in MahoPro who was able to quickly gain a female following due to his attractive figure and maxed-out sex appeal. Many compare him to Nicol Ascart due to the fact that he is slowly taking a lot of his jobs (or works alongside him at times) due to his handsome face. While both of them are handsome models, the public is aware that there is no point in pining the two against each other since their beauty works in different ways.

In the story (and as hinted in a few side story events), he was a slum rat who didn’t have much for himself. One day, he met a man who had join him and his fellow slum dwellers into their territory, a man by the name of David. The man was able to give Sora a new perspective on life, his new name, as well as how to sing. After David died, he wandered around the country, doing dirty jobs for shady adults for money. A few years later, we was caught singing in the streets by a man who offered to take care of him and cultivate him as an idol at the age of 13, complimenting him for his beauty and his singing. While Sora rejected the offer, the man’s words never left his mind. He started out by singing in the street for change, then getting singing jobs at cafes/live houses/restaurants for money, until he suddenly got a small following as an underground idol. The Director of MahoPro offers a place for Sora, alongside with giving him jobs as a full-fledged idol that can help him provide for himself, leading him to be affiliated with Sorcier Entertainment.

Sora starts out having a rather sarcastic relationship with Maria, thinking that she is one of the many women who throws themselves at him to get his attention. He always gives her back handed compliments as always has a vicious tone when speaking. As the story progresses, Sora realizes that Maria isn’t disgusted by his history, and realized that Maria is truly a good and kind person. Sora starts to unconsciously seek her out, trying to reverse the bad impression that he must have left on her and to be with someone who doesn’t look at him lowly, like the other adults and idols of SorEn who dislikes people that aren’t of celebrity-upbringing.

Dewey Percy is a young idol that auditioned for Sorcier Pro. and won, but was rejected at the last minute in favor of a less talented wannabe-idol who was related to a famous actor. The Director of MahoPro came to Dewey with an offer as an idol, acknowledging his talents in music and dancing that he evidently have been polishing for years. In his town, Dewey was known as a Music Prodigy, as he was talented in singing, dancing, acting and playing instruments, though that’s not to say that those weren’t the effects of his own hard work. Because his family wasn’t the absolute best financially, he decided to audition as an idol in order to get jobs despite being young.

Dewey is revealed to be somewhat of a childhood friend to Maria, as he lived in the same town as her. Despite this, he is very wary of her due to the bad impressions left on his by Sorcier Pro. after he almost lost his chance at becoming an idol. Dewey absolutely hated asking for help, even when it was draining him down. He is very desperate to keep his title as a music prodigy, even though he knows it’ll be drowned once he’s in a battlefield of idols. (Also he tries very desperately to be seen as a mature and hot idol, despite his youth and appearance giving him a cute one instead lol)

Maria realizes how hard Dewey is pushing himself, and convinces him over multiple instances that he doesn’t need to be hard on himself and suffer alone. Maria offers herself as a shoulder to lean on, making Dewey embarrassed but happy at the idea that he can finally have someone to rely on, and that he doesn’t need to be alone anymore. They were also able to bond about their similar upbringing, making Dewey feel at home in the arms of Maria despite being miles away from their town.

Cyrus Lanchester is an idol from a different agency, who was transferred to MahoPro by the time the events of the game began. He has a very strict personality, and is an overall perfectionist as an idol. He was let go from his original Agency because his strictness and tendency to scold his fellow idols caused his peers (who are a bunch of lazy and stuck up children of celebrities) to take him out because they didn’t vibe with his attitude. Before his original producer was able to tell him that he was done as an idol, the Director of MahoPro offered a place for him in their new agency.

While being grateful to the Director for taking him in, he does not hold back in letting everyone know about his distaste for their odd Director. While is he very talented as an idol, he is just using it as a chance to learn more about the industry and gain connections that he can use to be a part of it in the near future.

While he doesn’t start as wary of Maria as his fellow male idols, he insist on keeping distance with her due to the fact that they are of different agencies, as well as the fact that he is not good at dealing with women.

(I’ll have to rewrite Cyrus and Dewey’s descriptions after Volume 7 comes out, since I don’t have much to work with. I’ll add the Sora, Cyrus and Dewey endings in the edit as well.)

Hazbin OC - Lady Luck [WIP shit]

Just a dump of some Lady concepts and some of how she’s developed. Current design + Angel forme [above] Lady’s brief bio: Name: Lady Luck, Lady Age: Various [based on rebirth], most notably the ages 31, 38 and 55. Summary: Cal walks into you the coffee shop where you work at and you try to explain the different cafecitos the shop serves.

“Hi welcome to La Casa del Café, what can I get you today?” I said before my breath hitched realizing who was next in line.

Calum fucking Hood, in all his glory. Well not like that, but there he stood 5 feet away from me. About to order at my cousin’s coffee shop. He looked so comfortable in an off-white color hoodie and rolled up jeans, all paired up with Doc Martens. An outfit very similar to mine except I wore the corny “La Casa del Café'' t-shirt my cousin made us wear instead of a comfortable hoodie.

“You can go I’m still not sure what to get.” He told an elderly woman, Doña Pina.

Doña Pina is one of our regulars. Every morning, her daughter drops her off at Zumba while she runs errands for her kids. She waits five minutes before walking over here and ordering her usual té de canela and riele de fresa, a puff pastry with strawberry filling. An hour or so passes, and she walks out to wait for her daughter. I’m pretty sure her daughter knows she doesn’t go to Zumba.

“Buenos días, Doña Pina, lo de siempre?” I ask her, just to make sure.

“Si y el muchacho de atrás para ti.” She confirmed pulling out a five dollar bill.

“Doña Pina,” I began.

“Al paso que vas te vas a quedar quedada como mi Juliana.” She shrugged. I rolled my eyes at her comment.

I doubt he would look my way, a philosophy major that took a year off before starting law school because shit’s expensive, when he has models, influencers, actresses, and other girls in the entertainment industry to pick from.

I noticed Calum looking at my chest. Bruh, there’s nothing to look at there.

“How do you pronounce your name?” He asked. Oh, that’s why he’s looking at my nonexistent boobs. “Sorry that was super random and kinda weird. You don’t have to tell me. I’ll just-”

“It’s Tonantzin, but people call me Tony.” I cut off his rambling.

“To…”

“To-nant-zin.” I repeated, splitting it up by syllables.

My parents decided to give my sisters and I the most complicated names to pronounce. My older sister was named Citlaly while our younger sister was named Monserrat. Of course that just meant through all of elementary school all the rude ass kids would call her minced rat.

“Toe-nancy?” Calum said, slightly unsure. I shrugged, it was pretty close and on the first try. “Well, I’m Calum.”

“I know… I mean not like that. It’s just you’re, you know, Calum from 5 Seconds of Summer.” Great, now I’m rambling.

I quickly glanced over to Doña Pina, and she shook her head at me in embarrassment.

“I figured. I should order something.”

“Yeah, gotta keep the business running.” I chuckled nervously.

“What’s café de olla?” He asked, but he made the double ‘l’ sound like ‘l’ rather than ‘ye’.

“It’s actually olla. In Spanish the double ‘l’ makes a ‘ye’ sound. The way you pronounced it means either wave or hello. If it’s h-o-l-a then it’s hello, but if it’s o-l-a then it’s wave.” I explained.

Why am I like this? He’s probably gonna walk out and go to the Starbucks a few blocks down. Then Jose Luis, my cousin, is going to fire me because I’m driving away customers because I decided to teach them Spanish instead of taking their orders. I would be moneyless; therefore, I would have to drop out of law school before even going.

“Ola is for waving hellos. Get it?” He smiled. He’s cheeks instantly flush, and he clears his throat. He’s so fucking adorable. I just wanna hug him. "Sorry, that was stupid.”

“No!” I yelled, then I lowered my voice, “You’re good. I can be slow sometimes. It’s actually a pretty smart way to remember it.”

Calum gave me a relieved look. We stayed quiet for another few seconds. Thank god it was fairly slow this morning or I would have gotten yelled at.

“But, um, café de olla is just coffee made in a clay pot with water, cinnamon, piloncillo, a giant chunk of brown sugar, and finely ground coffee. Olla is pot in Spanish hence the name: café de olla, coffee made from the pot.” I explained.

I see him eye the pan dulce display next to the cash register. His eyes are glued to the polvorones with sprinkles. I loved eating those as a kid. I would dunk the pan in my milk and wait for the color to run off the sprinkles into the milk.

“I’ll take a cup of the café de olla.” He said looking away from the display.

“For here or to go?”

“I’ll take it for here, please.” He pulled out a ten dollar bill.

I gave him back seven dollars in change, all which he put in the tips jar. He just can’t give leave a 233% tip like that. I watched him walk over to the other end of the shop and pull out his laptop.

To my luck, we had run out, so I quickly started a new batch. “Mientes” by Camila, the Mexican rock band not the racist dating Shawn Mendes, started playing and I couldn’t help myself and started to dramatically lip sync to it while the coffee heated up. I used the whisk as a mic for my musical number.

After a few minutes the batch was done, I poured Calum’s in a taza de barro. My cousin brought a few dozen of these from where our dads’ family are from in Mexico.

I remember when we were younger we would wake up at the brink of dawn and go get leche recién ordeñada. My ‘lita would make a huge olla of coffee where the grown ups would add milk directly from the cow and an insane amount of alcohol. But for us kiddos, they would pour a spoonful of chocomil before adding the milk. We would all have our piece of bolillo. Except for my sister, Citlaly, she’s the world’s pickiest eater.

I grabbed one of the sprinkled polvorones before bringing Calum’s coffee to him where Doña Pina is chatting him up. I can’t with this woman.

“Mi’ja, I have to get going. It was nice meeting you, Calum.” She said, patting my shoulder. “Que no se te vaya el muchacho. Es buena gente.” she quickly added before waving at Calum.

“Here’s your coffee.” I said setting it next to him.

“I didn’t order this.” He gestured to the polvoron.

“I saw you eyeing it, so I assumed you’d like to try it.” I replied, casually, or I thought I did.

“It looks like fairy bread. When I was younger, on Sundays, my mum would always make fairy bread for my sister and I.” He said. His eyes had a little twinkle when he talked about home. He reached for his wallet. “Um, how mu-”

“On the house.” I cut in. He was about to protest, but I jokingly explained, “You made it out in one piece from a conversation with Doña Pina. She somehow manages to get the cute guys to walk her back to her daughter’s car.”

“What was the song you performed a few minutes ago? I really liked it… the song.” He asked randomly.

A la pinche madre, he saw me.

“Oh, it’s ‘Mientes’, by Camila. They’re a Mexican rock band.”

I went off explaining to him how their first album, Todo Cambio, is the best, but Dejarte de Amar slaps. I somehow transitioned to giving him other bands he should check out, like Los Enanitos Verdes, Maná, and Los Prisioneros. I also recommended Julieta Venegas because she’s that bitch.

A few hours later he left. He promised that he’ll come back for the coffee and polvorones. I jokingly told him that I would help him out with figuring out what the songs mean. He just smiled.

While on my lunch break, I tapped through Instagram stories. I stopped at Calum’s. He posted that on Spotify he was listening to ‘En el Muelle de San Blas’ by Maná. At the bottom he put a few hands in the air along with “cafe de olla and new music recommendations.”

The giggles led her to T’challa’s office, which he had quickly organized. She stood outside the door listening to the inseparable pair laugh together. “Tolerate is a good start. You have to eventually move past this. It isn’t healthy and you know you are an amazing partner to me. Also I hate the tense mood you get in after. How can I give you all your kisses if you are all tense and in a bad mood. Just relax, and don’t act like a scared puppy. You are a King, and my father is not a monster.”

“Let us be clear, no bad mood has ever stopped me from wanting to receive my kisses. And it is easy for you to say. You are his precious daughter who apparently needs protecting from the controlling King. The man has a terrorizing demeanor”

“Well obviously you are overcoming that so keep doing the great work that you are doing and eventually it will get there. And for the record, you may always make sure to get your kisses but you definitely under perform when you are in a bad mood” She said quickly as she kissed his cheek and carried Abiona back to her room to finish unpacking.

“Alix, you are joking right? Alixandre! I always bring my A game! When have I under performed? Alix!” He called after her before scowling a giving up to go back to his work.

T’challa kept bouncing Abiona in his arms as they waited for the door to open, his nervous energy bouncing back and forth around him..

“T’challa calm down, you are making me nervous. Just stand still” The door swung open too reveal Tolu who immediately went to hug Alix.

“Ma chère, ça va?”

“Oui Papa” Tolu completely skipped over T’challa while taking Abiona out of his hands.

“Et tu chouchou. Tu est très jolie. Savais - tu?” he proceeded in taking Abiona inside leaving her parents outside. T’challa glanced at Alix to say ‘I told you so’. Alix rolled her eyes and rubbed his arms as they walked in. Despite Tolu’s frigid welcome, T’challa could always count on Estelle to welcome him warmly. And she did just that taking T’challa into a big motherly hug topped with a kiss on the cheek. It was what he needed to help calm his nerves especially after being kicked out of the kitchen by Alix. He hated when Alix did it, she always kicked him out forcing him to go talk to her father before dinner.

Luckily Jules was here and could be a buffer between him and Tolu. Alix peaked from the kitchen watching the three most important men in her life sit together. She really wanted them to get along. She had hoped it would happen before they moved but she could only be thankful that they were cordial. It worried her more than she let on to T’Challa just because she felt bad for him because he truly was trying and he hadn’t really done anything to receive the cold shoulder her father constantly gave him.

“ Nice of you to finally join us T’Challa “ T’Challa nervously smiled as he sat down.

“ Yes well I was just seeing if the women needed any help”

“ Yes, you have made that a habit haven’t you?”

“ A real ally to the cause don’t you think Papa.” T’Challa turned to Jules begging him with eyes to not add on to the already thick tension.

“ Anyways, T’Challa would you like to join me in having a glass of scotch” T’Challa grew excited

“ Uh, Yes sir I would be honoured”

“ Um Papa, you never asked me and I have been here the whole time”

“ Mayowa I didn’t offer you any because the last time I saw you take a drink you ended up vomiting all over my carpet” Jules grew embarrassed as T’challa tried to hide his smile.

“ That isn’t even fair I was 18 then. I have matured”

“ That I am not sure about. T’Challa I hope you are not driving after this”

“ I can hold my alcohol sir, and if not Alix can drive”

“ Alix is on her second wine glass”

T’Challa turned to look at Alix who was enjoying no longer having to breastfeed. He smiled knowing that she had missed being able to enjoy her favourite wines. “ Well I guess I will only have a little then”

“ Do you always drive intoxicated with my granddaughter in the car”

“ What? No, I would never” T’Challa began to sweat. Tolu begun with his usual round of questioning to see if T’Challa was a good partner and parent. He hated having to continuously prove himself.

“Oh so you plan to start tonight then”

“ You know what, I think I will just continue nursing this water” T’Challa tried to smile. But there they were, those stone cold eyes staring right at him. He nervously took a sip of water.

“ Dinner is ready!” Estelle called

“ Thank Bast” T’Challa whispered to himself.

“ Good timing Maman, T’Challa was beginning to look pale. He must be very hungry” Jules sarcastically said as he patted T’Challa’s shoulder. T’Challa waited to follow both men as he regained his stature. He hated the feeling of doubt Tolu always created in him. He was his own man, with his own family and he deserved to be seen for that. He immediately took his spot in between Alix and Estelle. Alix could tell T’Challa’s normally laid back aura was nervous. She comforted him by rubbing his knee. The meal for the most part was going well and Abiona was keeping everyone entertained. Her grandmother held the happy baby.

“ Oh I am going to miss you so much ma petite, Mémé is going to miss giving you all the smooches I can. I cannot believe the time has come so quickly” Estelle said sadly as she tried to get all the love from Abiona before distance kept them apart.

“ Aww Maman stop, plus you know we are going to see you guys in Wakanda soon for Abi’s birthday.“

“Really “ Tolu spoke “ Bukola you convinced T’Challa and his seclusionist nation to allow us in. Or is it just those that the King sees fit”

“ Papa, there is no reason to talk like that “ Alix defended T’Challa

“ Seriously Tolu, be nice. T’challa barley started his position as King. He can’t change everything and definitely not at once” Estelle berated

“Thank you ladies, but I would like to speak for myself”

“ Oh this should be good” Jules sat up ready for whatever family dinner had to offer him this time.

“ Actually with all due respect sir, Wakanda has been seclusionist for a long time in what we thought would be best for us and our resources. We have come to realize the errors in our thinking. We are slowly working on an immigration and aid system that will best service not just communities in the United States but communities on our continent as well. We however have to be strategic in how we approach this and be aware in what each region may truly need. “

“ Well you all should get to it, you have a lot of lost time to make up for” T’Challa sat up feeling confident in his response.

“ That we are doing sir, it will be nice for when you finally come to see what Wakanda has to offer as well as what we are planning to do in regards to our international affairs. We have an interesting deal in the making with Nigeria actually. Hopefully we will be able to offer vibranium in a way that will help with the distribution of oil and to allow for the exporting to be less messy and much more beneficial to the nation. Especially villages and towns in Delta who are most affected by oil drilling” T’Challa held the eye contact that Tolu was offering. The table was silent for not more than 7 seconds but it felt like eternity.

“ That is good to hear. I will make sure to follow up with you on the nature of the deal and what it specifically entails. I also will make sure that this country of yours is treating my daughter and my granddaughter the way they deserve. As well as keep Mayowa out of control, because he I can force to come home” T’Challa and Alix let go of a breath neither realized they were holding.

“ Of course sir.”

The table entered a comfortable silence.

“ Well that was anticlimactic. I need a drink “

“ Sit down Mayowa”

“ I guess water is good enough for the both of us T”.

For the first time, T’Challa left the Ajayi family home feeling as though he could stand on his own two feet. Though he felt an added pressure with taking Alix to Wakanda, but all in all he felt good, and his good mood continued as he struggled to get his happy daughter to sleep.

Alix waited in bed for T’challa to put Abiona to sleep. They finally had the baby on a sleep schedule that for the most part was working. The only thing hindering it was T’challa. He couldn’t stop waking up every time she cried in the middle of the night. To make things worse he always took forever to put her to bed because Abiona at her young age knew how to control her Baba. T’challa finally walked back to their bedroom and laid on the bed.

“ Finally, Alix your child is showing signs of your stubbornness. She never wants to sleep”

“ Don’t put that on me, Abiona just knows her Baba lacks the ability to be strict with her, one giggle from her and you forget what you were supposed to be doing”

“ Forgive me for loving my child”

“ Forgiven, now come get your kisses”. Alix pulled T’challa on top of her to initiate a deep kiss. Alix’s hands travelled down his back. She let out a moan as T’challa broke the kiss.

“ Wait, can we talk about how your father actually respected what I said” T’challa beamed

“ That’s great babe, now can we focus on the task at hand?” Alix gripped his neck so she could push T’challa towards her but he resisted and continued talking. “ And now he wants to come to Wakanda. Yes he tried to belittle me but I think I definitely earned some of his respect today.”

“ T’challa remember when I was talking about underperforming, this talking you usually do contributes to it. I definitely do not want to talk about my father right now.” T’challa got off Alix and started to head out the room.

“ T’challa where are you going? Come get your kisses! “

“ Give me a minute Entle I have to check on the Nigerian deal and make sure there is a place for your parents before they arrive. As well as plan an itinerary for when they come”

“ Babe seriously? Right now? T’challa if you don’t come back right now I am not going to wait up for you! Okay ugly, do not even think to come cuddle me.”

The day had finally come for them to head to Wakanda. Estelle was right, they day had come so quickly that Alix wasn’t sure where the time had gone. Despite how quickly time was moving, Alix was surprisingly excited. She was eager to see the nation that T’challa held so much pride for and what made up the other half of Abiona’s identity. No one was as excited as Jules. Alix was dumbfounded that her laissez-faire brother was actually excited to start his new job with Shuri in the lab. Their parents were giving Jules six months to show some growth if not Tolu was more than happy to have him work as an intern for his friend who dealt with medical patents. Jules was really aiming for things to work for him and T’challa promised to do his best to help him. Alix admired the countryside as they flew in with Abiona in her lap.

“Entle come look, we are about to enter the city” T’challa said taking the sleeping baby from her hands as her and Jules watch as the ship went through the force field.

“T, this is all you, like you live like this? I mean, we’ve seen pictures but this does not even compare. I am never going home” Jules thought out loud. Ayo and Okoye laughed at the young man’s wonder.

The ship was greeted by Ramonda and Shuri smiling faces. T’challa took Alix’s hand as they descended.

“Hello, Alix welcome to Wakanda, Welcome back brother, is that my favourite niece, let me hold her” T’challa dodged Shuri’s hands.

“You mean your only niece, she is sleeping so no. Hello Mama, it is good to see you” He said kissing her cheek.

“It is good to finally have you back. We have missed you here. And there is much to be done. But, first hello Alixandre, it is good to have all of you with us finally”

“Hello Queen Mother, thank you for welcoming us, we are very excited to be here, this is my brother Jules.”

“How can I forget, we met at your baby shower, he is quite the character”

“Thank you! It is good to finally be appreciated”

“Brother is this who will be joining us in the lab?”

“Yes Shuri, Jules here is a scientist in his own right, I am sure his creativity and enthusiasm will add a new lens to whatever we are working on.”

“Exactly what T said, a new lens and all of that”

“ Alright, but you are on probation until I see fit” The Queen and Shuri left T’challa to get his family settle in. T’challa led them down a long hall decorated with family portraits on soft coloured walls. Alix walked slowly taking in all the visual memories of T’challa and Shuri, as well as some with their parents and family members she recognized but could not name. T’challa reached a door slightly hidden by staircases, he bent his wrist for recognition causing the two heavy doors to open, welcoming Alix and Jules to spacious quarters that were illuminated with warm and earthy colours, with the interior design to match. All a screaming resemblance of T’challa and his calm vibrance. Alix was immediately drawn to a wall behind the couch filled with more pictures marking different moments in T’challa’s life. She was instantly forced to smile at the many pictures of Abiona. He never stopped taking pictures of her and Alix had always wondered where he kept them all. Perfectly organized Alix was able to see Abiona’s growth over the past year. What really struck we're the ones of herself, not just with Abiona but candids, as well as the photos she had sent him during her pregnancy in addition to some he had taken himself on one particular Saturday. Alix’s body began to tingle in a new sense of warmth, almost similar to being in T’challa’s arms. Being in his space made the feeling of home become more pronounced. Alix almost turned when her attention was drawn to a picture of herself, in Kampala, in another candid, based on the angle of the camera, T’challa came to stand behind you.

“ When did you take this? How long have you had it up?” He grabbed her hand while still holding Abiona.

“ I am sure this was during my last two weeks there, we had some of those odd days off. I don’t know why but I began to feel that if I didn’t capture every moment I would regret it. You were never too fond of photos by me. It is good to know that hasn’t really changed. It has been up there since the day I returned to Wakanda. Not the best healing process, but that was obviously never the goal. Come, let me show you the rest.”

Alix finally turned to face him as he led through her through several other rooms including the kitchen. He stopped before a double door that you were sure was the master bedroom.

“I have been working on this the last few times I came, of course with the furniture you picked out to reference to how you would want it. Though I will admit I may have gotten a bit carried away and made some choices on my own.” T’challa opened to reveal a white nursery accented with green furniture, a bamboo made crib and an accent wall. “Of course we can change it when she is older and requires more play space but if you don’t like it we can -” Alix held T’challa’s hand.

“It’s okay, I love it, trust me, and it also shows you have some design skills.”

“You couldn't just compliment me could you” T’challa countered as he silently chuckled as he place Abiona in her new crib. Something he had wanted to do for months. Getting to put together the nursery had become a passion project for him. All he could think of waking up to see Abiona excitedly waiting for him to come get her in the crib, which he adored from the moment he saw it.

“Okay Kumkani, show me where the magic happens”

“Is that what we are calling it now” T’challa asked while quietly leaving the nursery leading Alix back to double doors.

“It is an MTV Cribs reference old man” T’challa bumped her hip before opening the door showcasing the darker themed bedroom . Alix slowly entered taking in every detail, such as the dark lining of the Wakandan alphabet on the wallpaper.

“Again if you don’t like it, like everything in the house, we will begin to change it” He nervously said. He wanted everything to be perfect for Alix. He wanted her to see his home as hers, for her to always think of here as home first before anywhere else.

“T’challa, I like it, I do, a few personal touches, and it will be home” she said smiling at him “Now, where is my closet?” She laughed as T’challa rolled his eyes and led her to the back where her brightly lit closet stood across from T’challa’s already filled with the clothes she had sent over as well as some traditional Wakandan pieces she and T’challa had picked before coming.

“Now, this should be big enough to support your obsession. I hope it will also keep you away from my closet”

“ Oh aren’t you funny babe. It won’t be funny when you find some of my heels next to your shoes you are going to be seething but there will be nothing you can do about it” T’challa frowned as Alix went over to pat his cheek provocatively. The couple went back out the room to meet Jules in the kitchen, doing as he normally did, going through their refrigerator.

“So T, I love you guys but please tell me I am not staying here with you. Give me a different quarters or something”

“What is wrong with staying with us?” Alix asked offended

“No offense but Alix, you can be overbearing, I literally left France so I could leave Maman and Papa and be the uncaged bird I was meant to be”

“Have no fear Julianus, I found you an apartment not from the palace and the lab as well. Tonight you will stay with us and tomorrow I will take you there myself.”

“And for the record, no one wanted to live with you anyway” Alix finally retorted as T’challa led Jules to one of the guest bedroom for the night.

The first few weeks had been a comfortable adjustment for Alix. T’challa had done his best in taking her to as many parts of the city as he could. When he couldn’t she was accompanied by Zemora, Abiona’s new nanny, and Aneka, Abiona’s personal guard. She however lagged behind to allow Alix privacy, especially since she hadn’t come out as T’challa’s partner yet. She also didn’t want anyone to think of her differently when she started teaching this week. Alix had laid her dress out, with heels to match the night before. She was excited for the new opportunity. And she was more than willing to have something to do before starting work when she felt Abiona was old enough. She had worked hard on her syllabi and presentations. She would be teaching two classes twice a week. A French and Yoruba class. As she walked out of the bedroom she was met with T’challa feeding Abiona and Jules eating cereal.

“Well look at you, the most beautiful professor I have ever seen. If I had had you as my teacher I would have never missed class”

“You never would have learned anything either with all that drooling T” The siblings laughed at him.

“Thank you babe, I appreciate it. And good morning to you my dear. What are you eating? I am going to miss you today. Make sure you be good for Zemora okay” the doorbell rang “Speaking of, I think that is her” Alix went to get the door returning with Zemora at her side.

“Good morning Kumkani, good morning Abiona.” Zemora said saluting the King and princess.

“I don’t think we have met. I am Zemora” Zemora again crossed her arms towards Jules. Jules had frozen with milk running from his mouth.” T’challa silently laughed as Alix softly shoved him and answered for him.

“This is my younger brother Jules, please don’t be offended. He sometimes can be inept” Zemora gave a small smile as Jules finally cleared his throat and offered his hand to Zemora.

“Nice to meet you, I am Jules”

“I just said that” Jules grew more embarrassed than he already was.

“On that cue, I think we should all begin our days. Entle are you sure you do not want me to come with you on your first day, the campus is not far from the lab, I can stop by before your first class” T’challa gave Abiona a round of kisses sending her into a fit of giggles. She was growing so quickly, he was afraid to blink and miss a moment.

“Absolutely not, I do not want my credibility to be questioned on the first day. Let us see how the first few weeks go” She went over to give Abiona her own kiss goodbye. Though she had left her with her parents and Jules before, this for some reason felt different.

“As you wish. I will see you later. I cannot wait to hear about how it went.” T’challa replied as they headed towards the door, turning to go their separate ways after kissing her goodbye.

Alix’s first day had started off well, she had been introduced to the entire Linguistics and Language Studies department. Everyone had seemed nice and welcoming. Both of her classes seemed enthusiastic to learn. She was most excited about teaching Yoruba, a language she only had the luxury of speaking with her father, and the rare occasion with Jules while growing. She hoped to teach it to Abiona one day. As she packed up for the day, she received a knock on her classroom door. She assumed it was another professor coming to welcome her. They had been streaming in and out all day. As she waved the person in. She turned fully to face the woman who was dressed in a simple dressed made with fabric from the region yet her skin glowed and only continued to do so as she smiled .

“Sorry to bother you but I was hoping to catch you before you left”

“That isn’t an issue, I am Alix Ajayi, the new language professor, and you are?”

“Oh right my name, yes, I am Buhle Maduna, I am the sociology professor, it is nice to meet you. My classroom is right across the hall. How are you finding everything?”

“Oh everyone has been lovely, and both of my classes seem enthusiastic to learn so I really couldn’t ask for much more”

“That is good to hear. I was shocked when I learned we were getting an outsider professor, considering Wakanda has an abundance of skilled people. But hey, it is probably best to learn French from the French themselves. You all are very particular about how the language is spoken.” Buhle giggled at her own comment while Alix grimaced, sensing an undertone of shade from the woman.

“Where in the city are you staying? Maybe I can recommend a few restaurants” Alix quickly thought on her feet and gave Jules’s address to maintain her privacy.

“Well alright then, I guess I will see you around”

“Yes see you.” Alix quickly gathered her things, ready to leave the awkwardness the conversation had left. She got home and was able to make dinner as Abiona napped. Dinnertime came and T’challa was nowhere to be found. She had tried calling him but had no luck. He even missed putting Abiona to bed. As Alix got ready for bed, she heard T’challa enter the nursery and kiss ‘Ona goodnight. He entered the bedroom just as she got into the bed.

“Hey, busy bee, where have you been. I have been trying to call you all day”

“Yes, I am sorry, work seemed to have been waiting for my return, and I have been trying to get as much of it done as possible but more seems to be adding on by the minute” He said running around the room getting ready for bed.

“Aww I am sorry, did you eat? I made dinner if your hungry?”

“It is fine” He replied climbing into the bed and finally kissing her hello. T’challa laid down pulling Alix to his chest. “I had the chefs make me something today. I will try not to make it a habit. Anyways tell me about your day? How did it go?”

“Really well actually, I met most of the people in my department and my students seem great. The classrooms here are state of the art so I can’t complain.”

“That is good to hear” He said kissing her forehead

“There was one strange interaction. This woman who was part of the sociology department, she has the classroom across from mine so she came to introduce herself. She was a bit rude, she made a comment about me possibly being a snooty Française and called me an outsider while basically insinuating that Wakanda had just as capable people to do my job.”

“Hmm that is a bit strange, except for the snooty Française part.” Alix playfully hit his chest as he tiredly chuckled. “What did she say her name was?”

“I honestly cannot remember, but it sounded familiar. Something with B.” She looked up to find T’challa dosing. She rolled her eyes before turning off the lights with her kimoyo beads. She laid back on his chest falling asleep to the steady beating of T’challa heart.

The following weeks had become a bit strenuous for Alix. Her classes had picked up, meaning she found herself creating extended office hours for her students, who were eager to master their respective language of choice. She didn’t mind and was grateful for their enthusiasm. Even on days she had off, Alix barely saw T’challa. She began to spend more time with Jules or Zemora, who she was growing to really like. T’challa was rarely home for dinner, so she stopped waiting for him. If he was home on time it was to put Abiona to bed. When he did come to bed, he never stayed up long to chat, claiming to be too tired from his day. Alix understood being a King required so much of him, but it was beginning to seem like too much. Their love life was beginning to suffer because of it.

One day he finally came home on time. Alix was overjoyed. He had dinner with her and Abiona. She had missed her Baba too, and was extremely giggly throughout the night. Only wanting to be held and kissed by him. T’challa did not mind because he had missed his princess as well. He grew sad thinking of all the time that he had to spend away from her. Unfortunately his workload refused to shrink.

Alix left the bedroom door open to listen to him sing the Wakandan lullabye to Abiona as he did every night he put her to bed. She was happy to hear it, it further fueled the feeling of home that T’challa always left with her. The feeling had been less strong as of late.

“I think that is the fastest I have been able to put her to bed” he said as he headed to his table looking for documents. Alix watched him carefully.

“It is because she misses you so she is being nice. What are doing, you aren’t coming to bed?” She said starting to stand.

“Unfortunately no, I came home early to spend some time with you, but I have a few things I would like to get done before tomorrow.” Alix pushed herself in between the desk and T’challa.

“Well babe, I missed you too” She said as she wrapped her hands around him and started to kiss his jaw and neck. “Maybe you could spend even thirty minutes before you go back”

“I am sorry but I can’t. Maybe tomorrow.” Alix stopped for a second to look him in the eye.

“T’challa you have been saying that for over a week. I have needs too you know.” She went back to kissing his neck “All I am asking for is thirty minutes of your - “ T’challa pulled her away from him and with a bit too much force in his voice said. “Alix I said no!” Alix was taken back, and she was hurt. T’challa saw it all over her face, but for once he was too exhausted to try and retract his words.

“I will be back in two hours, good night ok.” he went in to kiss her cheek, but she dodged it before heading back to the bed. T’challa sighed before leaving to his office. When he came back, Alix was still up but facing away from him. He crawled into bed but did not try and put his hand around her. If this was how it was going to be, Alix was not sure if she could cope. It was no longer just her and him. Outside forces were once again threatening to burst the protective bubble they had worked to build. Alix felt a familiar sense of fear building in her throat, though she didn’t want it to. She tried to push it down but it remained.

The next day she felt lucky to have class as a distraction. As she was wrapping up her final class of the day, she noticed a new face all the way at the back. She knew it was T’challa instantly, despite his shades and hat. He waited for all the students to leave before walking down with a bouquet of lilies. Alix tried to stay mad at him but couldn’t help but smile.

“These are for you professor Ajayi. I am hoping this will boost my grade and act as a peace offering for the way I acted last night. I am sorry entle. I overreacted and took out my frustrations on you. Please forgive me, I will try not to do it again.” She faced away from him for a while before reaching for the flowers and allowing him to kiss her hand.

“I was only trying to give you your kisses”

“I know, and I am sorry. I have a little time before I have to go back to work, so how about we go back to my office for an early dinner, with dessert Ms.Ajayi. Completely my treat” he said going to leave a trail of kisses down Alix’s neck, his hands exploring the outline of her curves. Alix giggled but pulled away when she heard the door open. T’challa turned to face away from the person.

“Oh I am sorry, am I interrupting? I will come back later” Buhle said as she turned to back out

“No, it is fine, umm what can I help you with” Alix said as she tried to smooth out her skirt.

“I just wanted to let you know that tomorrow, I will be playing a documentary, it can sometimes get a little loud at certain parts due to editing. So just let me know and I will try and turn it down.” The voice sounded so familiar to T’challa, it felt loving and soft to his ear.

“That is very kind of you. I will let you know if it happens. Thank you.” Alix said hoping Buhle would leave.

“T.C. is that you?” Without turning T’challa answered

“Joy?”

“Who else would it be” He turned and they ran into each other’s hand screaming in joy. Alix watched completely confused, her sexual frustration began to takeover seeing T’challa give more affection to this woman than she had gotten in over a week.

“Wow, look at you, you look amazing Buhle” T’challa said pulling away to take in Buhle, she had only gotten more beautiful with age.

“Oh stop! You don’t look so bad yourself handsome” Alix cleared her throat to get their attention.

“Chèrie” Alix switched from Xhosa to French ”Why didn’t you tell me your ex-girlfriend was also a professor here when I mentioned her to you earlier?”

“Because I hadn’t told him. We haven’t been in contact in years. I too speak French. My time as a Wardog as well as dating a polyglot definitely forced me to pick up a language or two” Buhle answered before T’challa could.

“I knew you were King now but I wasn’t sure if it was still my place to contact you” Buhle said looking at Alix from the corner of her eye.

“Buhle it was my fault we stopped communicating. It was purely an accident though. Bast so much has happened”

“I know you are busy being a King and all but if you have even thirty minutes to spend with an old friend I would be so grateful T.C.”

“Of course Joy!” Alix struggled to keep her face steady “Not now but send me a message when you don’t have class and I will let you know. And Buhle, if you can keep this to yourself, about Alix and I.”

Buhle grabbed his bicep and slowly rubbed it. Alix’s eye refused to look anywhere else

“Of course T.C. actually I have known for a while. Being a retired war dog doesn’t mean you lose the connections to the grapevine. But you are fine handsome. I will message you later okay” She said as she hugged him goodbye. “Oh bye Alix” Alix waved with as little energy as she could muster. Once the classroom was closed T’challa turned back to her.

“Wow, what a small world. Anyway, are you ready to go?”

“Actually, I just remembered I told a few students I would wait for them after class in my office. So I will meet you at home okay handsome?” T’challa rolled his eyes but laughed not reading Alix’s mood.

“Okay entle, I will make sure to be home to make dinner” Alix nodded and went to her office to be with her thoughts as she waited for her students to come by.

As they got ready for bed, Alix couldn’t stop herself from asking.

“So, T.C. what is that all about” T’Challa laughed as he pulled down the covers

“When we were in college, the Americans had trouble pronouncing my name. Buhle had given them a fake name because she was a wardog in training. Her name was Joy. Because the Americans all had trouble, they themselves decided to nickname me T.C.. Buhle found it funny and an example of how close minded they sometimes could be. Especially since my name is not that hard to pronounce. So we jokingly began to call each other our American names. Eventually we stuck with it.”

“So you were in contact with her even after you broke up? You didn’t tell me that”

“Yes I was before I got to Uganda actually. Then we drifted. Mostly it was my doing but yes. She is such an amazing person. It felt good to see her again” Alix started squinting at him as he reminisced.

“Don’t you find it a bit peculiar she knew who I was this whole time and didn’t say anything. Not to talk of the fact that she basically insulted me the first week.” T’Challa laid down fully.

“Alix don’t. Now that I know it is Buhle, she probably meant no harm. Plus she used to be a war dog. She knows better than to release such information. Even to you. Buhle wouldn’t say anything. I trust her fully. “ Alix look at him from the corner of her eye.

“ I just find it interesting that when I had asked you for thirty minutes you near through a fit, but when Buhle does, it is no problem at all” T’Challa rubbed his face

“Alix I said I was sorry okay, what do you want me to do?”

“Hmm, I don’t know, be my partner?”

“Alix please, let’s not do this”

“Do what? Plus if I don’t do it now who knows when I will see you again! You are never here! Ever! And when you are, you are too busy or just popping in like an August visitor. Abiona misses you. I miss you! We haven’t been intimate in almost two weeks and I am pretty sure if I hadn’t brought it up you wouldn’t have even noticed. So forgive me if I am a little annoyed that you are freely offering your time to your EX-GIRLFRIEND while I sit here begging for it.”

“I am here now and you’ve spent the time we did have yelling at me! I am King Alix! I don’t know if you noticed! Of course I hate being away from you and our child but things have to get done now so I can rest later. If you remember I took an extended leave of absence to be with the two of you- “

“Like a father is supposed to do!”

“That isn’t the point! I have to make up for that time! You knew what is was before we got here! I don’t know why you are acting shocked now. You are not the only annoyed and tired one.”

They both laid back with heaving chest from yelling. After a moment T’Challa finally turned off the light and faced away from Alix. The feeling in her throat had returned and this time she did not try and push it away. She felt naive to had thought it wouldn’t happen again. That his duties would not come in between them. It was no longer just the two of them against the world. She wasn’t even sure if they were on the same side anymore.

JULY 2020 BC ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW

Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of August 7 KST:

A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly limit).

A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on the monthly schedule.

Threads and solos do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.

These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.

Overall Company

All BC idols are scheduled for a meeting with upper management the day before the news of the upcoming base Culture Complex is leaked to the media. They’re given a more detailed rundown of plans for the facility than the public is, although not all the details are made clear. In the meeting, everyone is informed BC has partnered once again with Dimensions and Gold Star to fund the construction of a new building in Gangnam meant to become the ideal location in the world for fans of idols. The building will include a museum with exhibits dedicated to the history and music of each group and soloist, a handful of theatre venues for intimate concerts and company-sponsored musical productions, a merchandise mall, a cafe, and many other fan experiences. (admin note: For reference, imagine something similar to SM COEX Artium —with over three times the budget.) The idols won’t spend much time there even once it’s finished being built, but content starring them is critical to the financial success of the venture, so the next several months leading up to its opening will have all three companies’ idols working hard to make its opening a success. This month, that mostly involves producing photo shoots: all idols will attend a photo shoot session this month where three categories of photo will be tacked: profile pictures for the artist wall (grayscale, professional and serious tone), images for life-sized cutouts of each idol (wardrobe will consist of jeans and a single-color top for each idol, fun and bright tone with fanservicable poses such as here and here encouraged) and 3D imaging for 3D-printed figures of each idol.

BC Soloist 1

Since everything is filmed and shot for her comeback, most of July is about practicing and perfecting her performance, which has been the biggest praise point since her debut. Upon its release, “Love U” isn’t as big of a smash hit as “Roller Coaster” was, but, as a summer release, the improvement from “Why Don’t You Know”’s already impressive performance is clear. While her true staying power has yet to proven seeing as she’s still a rookie soloist, her future looks promising in a way upper management is clearly pleased with for their first soloist in a decade.

Decipher

To promote their comeback, Decipher have a magazine shoot to do for Marie Claire Korea on the first of the month. It’s an inside spread in the issue that will be cover by their juniors WISH. While their maknae heads back overseas to tour with CHAMPION, the rest of the group will keep practicing to make their comeback on the 13th. Promotions are kept to a minimum, without any fansigns to boost album sales, and, unfortunately, the more mellow vibe of the song doesn’t click with the public for the summer as well as BC would have hoped, leaving them with an abysmal chart performance, though the comeback still brings in a profit thanks to their dedicated fans.

↳ CHAMPION

CHAMPION has already broken records, soaring to the top of the Billboard Hot 200 album chart last month, a feat only Origin has previously achieved. The achievement has BC and Dimensions quite proud and the lack of significant performance on the Korean charts isn’t considered a big deal to them due to the overseas success. This month, they begin their tour in Texas (flying out from Seoul late on July 5) and hold five US dates total before they fly out back to Seoul in the early morning hours of July 12. As previously mentioned, the two involves all of the songs on their mini-album, two unreleased songs (”Dangerous Woman” and “With You”), and solo stages by those who have made solo debuts before the tour.

The members will fly out from Seoul to the US on July 2 to shoot their photo book for their album. They’ll return to Seoul on July 5 and two days later will have another photo shoot, this time for Elle Korea’s August issue. The members will take on a retro photo shoot concept for the shoot. Shortly after, they’ll shoot the music video for “Darling”, and then the rest of the month is focused on preparing for their Seoul concerts. Each member will continue to rehearse their self-chosen solo cover stages for the concert (admin reminder: please avoid choosing songs that could be claimed as points claimed songs and have not been released in-’verse). At the end of the month, they’ll perform “I Like That”, “I Swear”, “Touch My Body”, and “Loving U” at a resort festival.

Knight

After a photo shoot for Dazed early in the month and following the two CHAMPION subunit members' returns from the US, Knight is slated to begin comeback preparations for an album release in October. After playing it safer the last few comebacks, Knight is returning to something a little more experimental again. The full album should be recorded before they perform at a resort festival at the end of the month. Their set will consist of “Love Shot”, “Enough”, and their older summer hit “Kokobop”.

They’ll film their last music video rather early in the month, after which point, they only need to rehearse throughout the month to be ready for their showcase and music show stages next month. Since the two Knight members don’t have much in the way of choreographed dancing, most of the rehearsal focus is on working well off of each other and getting all three title tracks into their muscle memory.

Lipstick

Lipstick finishes their promotions for “Wild” in the first half of the month. While it doesn’t earn them any music show wins, the song has been fairly well-received in comparison to their last release. They’ll make a short appearance on MBC Starry Night radio show before kicking into the last week of promotions, but as an eight year senior group, music shows to connect with fans are the main focus. Near the end of the month, they’ll perform “Wild”, “Glue”, and “Lil’ Touch” at a resort festival, but work on Queendom is also in full force. They’ll be filming the first two episodes of Queendom on July 16 and July 30 (the latter date also happens to be their debut anniversary), and they’ve been asked to prepare a performance of their representative hit song, “Genie”. If they’d like and they have family in South Korea, the company will permit them to have enough of a break to take a day trip or two to visit family, but longer trips or trips for other reasons will not be approved by the company this month to keep the members out of trouble and focused on staying focused on their tour.
