Summary: Din has been calling you riduur for months. You finally find out what it means, and get a little more than you bargained for.
Pairing: Din Djarin x gn!Reader
Word Count: ~5.1k
Warnings: pining, absolute FOOLS in love, bit of grumpy x sunshine, lil angsty, possibly incorrect lore, fluff, lots of Mando'a (translations for the Mando'a at the end)
A/N: Happy Mandalorian Eve!! This is based on a short drabble I wrote, which you can find here! It's not necessary to read it first, though of course I recommend it! The reader and Din have been traveling together for a long time, and after removing his armor in front of the reader for the first time began calling them riduur.

“Riduur.”
It may as well be your name, the way you turn at the sound of that word.
“Din,” you return, adjusting the child’s little sleeve which had fallen down past his hand.
“Are you ready?” He asks as he tilts his head to the side.
You smile and turn back to Grogu. “Dad’s impatient today, isn’t he?” The child coos up at you, lifting tiny arms, ready to be picked up. “Yeah, he is.”
“I’m not impatient,” Din grumbles lowly.
You raise a brow at that and lift Grogu into your arms. “You’re always impatient, Mando.” His head jerks to the side at your assessment.
You have to bite back a laugh. In truth, he is incredibly patient. Most of the time, and especially when it came to you and Grogu. The only time you’ve seen him truly lose his temper was with the Jawas, and really, that couldn’t be helped.
The child reaches for Din when you turn back to him, and the Mandalorian immediately holds out his arms to take him from you. You deposit the little green baby there before grabbing your shawl. “Yes, we’re ready,” you finally answer.
The baby gets tucked into the pouch at Din’s hip, before he descends the ship’s ramp out into the desert air that awaits you.
You roll your eyes gently.
Not impatient, but not entirely patient either.
You follow, wrapping the light material around your shoulders.
It’s subtle, but he does wait for you, his pace slower than if he were alone. His right elbow ticks out a fraction, and you smile before cupping your hand there. He would never ask you to take his arm, still the offer is usually there if he can accommodate it.
He relaxes a little when you fit your hand against his bicep. “Supplies only,” he reminds you, ever practical.
“Supplies only,” you agree. “Unless I see something for Grogu.”
“The child is becoming spoiled,” he complains lightly. “We won’t have enough room in the ship soon.”
You shrug and tighten your grip on his arm. You like the way he says we. So, you return with, “That’s just because our child deserves the best.”
Din’s spine straightens a fraction and his shoulders tilt back.
He’s somehow both stoic and incredibly bad at hiding his emotions. You can tell, just by the slope of his shoulders or the exact angle of the helmet or the precise way he stands or walks, exactly what and how he’s feeling.
Or, maybe you’ve just spent too much time around him.
Maybe, you just know him too well.
And right now, he’s swollen with pride. Though you don’t know if it's because you’ve complimented the way he takes care of the child or if it were something else. Something in the way you said our.
It’s not long before you reach the market, and Din sighs as soon as it comes into view. It’s much larger than the ones you normally frequent, a riot of color and sound that you both know you won’t be able to resist. The town seems to be in the midst of some kind of festival.
The smell of fried food greets you before you’ve even breached the perimeter of the town, and your mouth waters. Something better than rations awaited you there.
Din is single minded though, and you know he’ll immediately make for the most boring of the stalls and shops.
Supplies only, after all, is what you’d come for.
“Mando,” you remove your hand from his arm and he immediately halts at the loss of your touch and turns to you. “I’m going to go look around.”
He stares at you, helmet tilting down. He doesn’t like telling you no, and knows it wouldn’t matter if he did anyways. But, he worries and so it takes a moment for him to reply. “Don’t go far,” he advises. “Do you have a comlink?”
“Yes.”
“A weapon?”
You pretend to search your person, “Hm, what’s that again?”
“Riduur,” he reprimands your teasing.
That word makes the inside of your skin light up pleasantly. Riduur. If only you knew what it meant.
You’ve started to assume it means something similar to cyare or cyar'ika. But he’d had no problem telling you what those words meant. Darling and sweetheart and beloved. He’d had no problem telling you he was calling you beloved.
But he no longer calls you cyare or cyar'ika. Since the first time he’d called you riduur, the day he removed his armor in front of you for the first time, he’d solely begun calling you riduur.
Even your name is becoming a rarity from his lips.
“Udesii! Yes,” you cross your arms. “You know I took care of myself for a very long time without you and nothing ever happened. I’ll be okay.”
Din doesn’t answer, just sighs and gives a curt nod and marches off towards a shop selling medical supplies.
The dramatics of it all makes you giggle. You like teasing him, especially because he thinks he hides how flustered you make him well.
Although you enjoy traveling with the Mandalorian, alone time has become a complete rarity. You were always with Din, or watching your little green menace.
You eat your way through a couple of different stalls selling food, bundling up second and third servings to keep for Din and Grogu.
Din wouldn’t think to get anything beyond rations. Both you and the child like a little more variety, where Din treats the act of eating like a maintenance routine.
You drift past stalls hawking trinkets and jewelry, fending off the sellers as you crunch something sweet and sour you’d picked up at the last food stall, not entirely sure what it is.
Textiles are next, bolts of cloth you run your fingers over but mourn not being able to afford. Still, it's nice to browse, nice to feel normal. The Mandalorian isn’t hunting someone for once, and you aren’t trapped in the interior of the ship, stale recycled dry air burning your nostrils.
A little supply stop has become a little welcome relief. It’s giving you the chance to stretch your legs, to explore.
Still, your mind drifts back to Din, the way he calls you something he would not name to you.
You’ve searched before, in other markets, on other worlds, for the answer to your question. What does that word mean and why won’t Din tell you?
You’d tried to convince him once or twice, with gentle words whispered in his ear, when the helmet was off and your hands were pressed against his skin, the contours of his face still a mystery to you.
Once, you’d felt the skin of his cheeks go hot beneath your hands when you told him he used his tongue so prettily, couldn’t he use it to tell you what riduur meant?
He’d mumbled something else in Mando’a but had not explained himself.
You can understand most of that he says now, but because he’s the only other speaker, you have to rely on him to tell you what new words and phrases mean.
Because the Mandalorians are such an insular people, you never come across any other speakers you could ask. There are no dictionaries to Basic that you could download and peruse.
It’s frustrating, especially since the word seems to be laden with something heavy. Din says it with reverence, with a softness that doesn't cut through the rest of his words. His voice is softer when he speaks Mando’a anyways, but that word is held with a reverence on his tongue, like it’s precious.
The only other time you had heard him use that tone was when he once called Grogu ad’ika, which meant child.
You’ve almost given up on knowing, resigned to that fact that you may never know and he may never tell you.
Whatever it means, you’re sure it's important. You just don’t know why.
The market is loud, boisterous and colorful. Music floats through the air, shouts and laughter.
It’s nice, it makes you smile and you wish you’d taken the child with you because you’re sure he’d have much more fun with you than with Din picking out rolls of bandage and rations and pulse rifle cartridges if he can find someone that has some.
You stop suddenly in your tracks when you hear a conversation in a language you immediately recognize, the familiar syllables cutting through the afternoon chatter.
You spin and find two men in robes speaking gently to each other in Mando’a. Before you can stop yourself, your feet have already carried you to their table where they sit sipping cups of caf.
“Su cuy'gar,” you greet. They both look surprised, glancing at each other and then back at you. “Sorry to bother you. You speak Mando’a?”
One smiles, “Yes. Of the few outsiders that do, I think.”
“Were you foundlings?” It’s the only way, you think, that they could have learned it.
“Once,” the older of the two says. “This one learned it at a university.”
You can’t help the curiosity that burns through you, “At a university? Really?”
“Only the very barest basics. From a woman being courted by a Mandalorian,” he dismisses with a wave of his hand. “That was a long time ago. Really I learned from him.” He gestures between himself and the other man.
You shake yourself, “I’ve just never met another aruetii that does.” Let alone two of them, you think dizzily. Two outsiders who spoke Mando’a.
“And how did you learn?”
“My…” you trail off.
Your what? You aren’t sure what exactly Din is to you, or what you are to him. You never have been. He treats you like you’re more precious than beskar, yet everything between you remains undefined.
“My traveling companion. He’s a Mandalorian.” You swallow, “I wonder if you could tell me if you know what a certain word means? It’s one I’ve been curious about.” You don’t want to tell them that you’re seeking it out because it's something he calls you. That feels too private, too close to the chest. “He said it once and I’ve been trying to figure it out ever since.”
“Why don’t you ask him?”
“It would wound my pride. He’s already taught me so much. He overestimates my fluency.”
They laugh and the man who was once a foundling says, “Yes, ask us then.”
“Riduur,” you say, carefully pronouncing it so they don’t mistake it for another word. “Riduur,” you repeat with more confidence.
The men glance at each other, brows raised. “Well, it has several meanings,” the more grizzled of the two says, “But I suppose it's all the same in the end. Spouse would be the most overarching translation. Partner, wife, and husband all work too.”
For a moment, you can’t breathe, you’re sure your heart has come to a leaping halt in your chest. “Truly? Riduur?” You say it again, just to make sure. They laugh and nod and you decide to have your meltdown away from their table. “Well, thank you for clearing that up. Sorry again to bother you.”
You turn away from them, a roaring in your ears. Your heart stutters in your chest. Riduur. He’s been calling you his partner, his spouse, for months? That word so softly spoken to you - to tease you, to call for you, whispered to you in the dark, said over and over, more than your own name. It meant partner, spouse, wife, husband?
Something inside you lights up with pride. The shape of it is warm, firm in the clasp of your lungs. Riduur. It’s a living, breathing kind of word, one that takes up space inside you. One you’re proud to bear the weight of, the title of.
Spouse, you think, doesn’t carry the same gravitas as riduur. There’s something heavier and deeper in the word that a translation couldn’t really carry over into Basic.
You start back down the road, smiling to yourself, but only make it several paces when Din steps up beside you silently from between two stalls. “Dank farrik,” you gasp, stumbling back. “Where did you come from? You scared me.”
He doesn’t answer you, doesn’t even tilt his head towards you. You may as well have not spoken at all.
“Mando?”
Still, he doesn’t answer you.
You raise a brow but don’t say anything else as he herds you gently out of the market, desert dust swirling around your calves. Eventually, when you reach the edge of the town, he asks, “Did you find everything you need?” His voice is flat, rough.
“Yes, I got some food for you and Grogu to try. A little feast for you tonight, since it won’t hold.”
He merely grunts and you frown. “Is something wrong?” You glance over your shoulder. “Did something happen? Are we being followed?”
You glance around his legs at the baby, still securely in the brown canvas bag, who’s peering up at both of you with anxious eyes, big ears drooping.
“No.” He answers curtly.
The walk back to the ship is silent, and tense, and you aren’t sure why.
It’s only when you’re in the safety of the mouth of the ship’s ramp, with the baby in your arms, that your irritation spills over. “Are you upset with me? I didn’t wander. I stayed close and had a weapon and -,”
Din’s hands go to his hips, helm tilting at an angle as he regards you. His voice is agitated when he finally speaks. You expect him to tell you that you wandered too far, that he commed you and you hadn’t picked it up, that you’d unknowingly wandered into danger. And you expect to have to tell him once again that it's all fine, that you are fine, that you’d traveled without him for years and things always turned out alright.
Instead, he says, “You should not call yourself an aruetii. That is not what you are.”
For a moment, it doesn’t register with you what he’s talking about, that he’d clearly overheard your conversation with the Mando’a speakers, likely eavesdropped on it.
All you are, for a few seconds, is confused. “But…I am an aruetii. I am not a Mandalorian.”
Din’s shoulders go stiff at your words. “That does not make you an outsider. You…you are far from an outsider,” he growls and suddenly spins away from you, his footfalls heavy and loud when he stomps across the hull.
He climbs the ladder to the cockpit and disappears, leaving both you and the baby alone, still standing on the ramp up to the ship. “He’s angry with me,” you say in disbelief, glancing down at the child in your arms, not really understanding why. “We’ll let him cool off,” you decide, bouncing the child against your waist. “Hungry?”
The baby coos and you smile, worry biting into you as you settle with him in the mouth of the ship. The sun is setting on the sand, the air warm, casting red shadows over the world. There’s nothing around you but sand in any direction you glance, aside from the town from which you’d come on the horizon.
In the distance, fireworks from the town explode in the sky. You point them out to Grogu, gently feeding him bites of food that you’d gotten at the market. He makes a sound that you suppose is a giggle, big eyes focused on the colors dissipating in the sky. He holds a tiny hand up, like he’d like it to fly to him.
You curl a hand over his. “None of that,” you say with a laugh. “Those are meant for the stars, not you.”
He goes back to eating, already distracted.
A weight settles over your chest.
If Din heard you call yourself aruetii then he knows that you now know what riduur means.
Maybe that was the true source of his irritation, that you’d gone behind his back to figure out what it meant when he clearly hadn’t wanted you to know.
You rub the tip of Grogu’s ear between your fingers and sigh.
Any warm feelings you’d had are gone.
Riduur.
He’s been calling you that for months. But he hadn’t wanted you to know that he was calling you his partner. For some reason it stings.
The Mandalorian is not cruel, not the type to play with another’s feelings. But, nonetheless, it feels like he might have been. Teasing you in a way you couldn’t begin to guess at. Or, like he could pretend without actually attaching himself to you, and you’d be none the wiser.
You shake those thoughts away, listening to the music echoing over the sands.
When Grogu falls asleep and the sun is just disappearing behind the horizon, you secure the ramp of the ship and carry the baby up into the cockpit.
Din sits silently in the pilot’s chair, and doesn’t look at you as you tuck the child into the floating pod.
You fidget with his blanket, not sure what to say.
“I’m sorry,” he breaks the silence first. “Ni ceta.”
“Din,” you perch next to him in the co-pilot’s seat. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have gone poking around where I don’t belong. I’m sorry.”
His head tilts toward you, the visor impenetrable. You swallow when he doesn’t answer, an inexplicable lump forming in the back of your throat. “Don’t belong?”
“I shouldn’t have asked them what riduur meant. You didn’t want me to know.”
Din stands and holds out a hand to you. You take it carefully and let him pull you to your feet. “That is not why I-,” he stops. “Do you really not know?”
“Know what?”
“I should have been…honest about the name I’ve given you.” He tilts his head and releases your hands. “I’m upset because-,” the Mandalorian pauses and seems to consider his next words for a long moment. Finally, he sighs and simply repeats, “You’re not an aruetii. By definition you can’t be.”
You stare at him for a long moment, before shaking your head. “I don’t understand.”
He huffs, helm ticking to the side again. “Would you call Grogu an outsider?”
“Of course not,” you answer, horrified. “No.”
“And why is that? He’s not a Mandalorian either.”
You don’t have to think about it, shaking your head before he’s even finished speaking. “He’s your child.”
Din steps forward, close to you, but doesn’t say anything. “Our child,” he corrects eventually. “I am upset because you don’t seem to know you are a part of our clan. Even after knowing what I’ve been calling you. Riduur, ner riduur, for months. You still don’t know.”
Oh. Oh.
“Osi'kyr,” you murmur softly. “How could I know that, Din?”
He stands silent and still before you, so still you aren’t sure he’s breathing. “I thought it was clear,” he says stiffly. “I thought it was clear I was courting you.”
Something pleasantly warm settles in among your heart and lungs. “Maybe you should explain your customs to me more thoroughly,” you joke lightly.
He doesn’t laugh, shoulders tense, hands curled in anxious fists.
“So why not tell me what the word means?” It seems a bit past courting to you, to call someone riduur. It seems to you he’s already chosen you.
He shifts from foot to foot, the movement somehow laden with vulnerability and worry. “If you did not…want the same - I’m not sure I could bear that.”
You stare at him, not entirely sure what to say to that. “So, what,” you start, “you expected me to one day just realize you considered me your-,”
“I would have told you,” he interrupts quickly. “One day.”
“Told me-,”
“What riduur means,” he corrects. “And asked if you’d like to be that.” Din takes your hands again, “Just know that you are part of this clan, whatever your answer is.” His voice is so sincere, it breaks your heart a little. “Whether you want to be attached to me or not, you have a place in this clan. You are not an aruetii.”
You tilt your head at the same time he does, the nonverbal cues you both habit in reflecting between you. “I’m just a bit confused. Was that your idea of a proposal?” You smile so he knows you’re teasing him.
Din gives a long suffering sigh. “Mandalorians do not propose.”
“Oh. So what do you do then?” You lift a brow, sliding your hands to his wrists so you can work on tugging one glove off at a time.
“We make an agreement,” he says, not trying to stop you. His voice is hoarse. “We make vows.”
You don’t look up, tucking the gloves in your belt before tracing your fingers along the veins in his wrists, the lines of his palms. “Oh. And did you make vows to me that I wasn’t aware of?”
You’re still joking, but Din takes your words to heart. He shakes one hand loose from yours and presses it beneath your jaw, tipping your head gently back. “I did. I make vows to you everyday.”
All the air seems to get sucked out of the ship. You gape at him, mouth opening and closing without any sound coming out as you struggle to find words. He chuckles, low and breathy beneath the helmet. You imagine he must be smiling. “Now you see how you make me feel. Like I can’t breathe.”
You finally manage to take a breath, lifting your chin away from his fingers, threads of embarrassment beating under your skin at his teasing. “You could have told me, you know.”
“It was too large a risk. I wouldn’t risk you.”
Maybe you should hesitate in your next words.
But you don’t.
You’ve never been surer in something.
“Din,” you step close to him. “I would take those vows.”
“They…they are heavy vows. Not meant to be taken lightly. They’re bonding vows.”
He thinks you don’t get it, that you still don’t understand. “I understand what kind of vows they are. What are the vows?” You step even closer, the heat of his body seeping into yours.
He smells like sun, like spices from the market and oil on beskar. It makes you dizzy, the usual scent of him is much cooler. Evergreen and pine.
The cockpit is dark, the very last dregs of light on the horizon gone. The contours of the helm are shadowed, the flicker of lights from the control panels reflecting in blinking lights over the visor.
There is no hesitation in his voice when he finally speaks.
“Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar'tome, mhi me'dinui an, mhi ba'juri verde.”
You mouth the words, doing your best to translate them.
But he’s spoken too quickly, and you only understand part of it. He waits for you to ask for him to translate, giving you a moment to attempt it instead of immediately telling you.
“I only understand part…We are one together and-,”
“We are one when together, we are one when parted, we will share all, we will raise warriors,” he says easily. “We are - we are all of those things already. I have kept the promise I made.”
Your throat is dry, and you can’t think about how that’s true. “We’re raising warriors?” You attempt a joke.
“Would you not call the child a warrior?”
“I would,” you agree. “I would also still take those vows, now knowing their meaning.”
There’s a long pause in which you can feel the Mandalorian’s stare. His gaze is intense, assessing, hot against your skin. You patiently look back, waiting. “You don’t have to.”
“You think I don’t want to.”
He huffs, “I…don’t want you to believe you have to make vows to me. You are a part of our clan no matter what.”
“Would you still call me riduur?”
“If you allowed it,” he takes a breath. “Yes.”
The lip of the helm drifts up and you can sense he’s no longer looking at you, embarrassed. “Din.” His head snaps back down. “I know I am not an outsider.” You wait for him to digest those words. “I know this is my clan now. I still would like to make these vows to you.”
He reaches up and presses his palms to either side of your jaw, the crown of the helmet pressing softly against your forehead for just a moment when he dips his head. “If you’re sure, repeat after me. We’ll say them together.”
“Elek,” you agree.
“Mhi solus tome,” he starts, reverence and disbelief lodged in his voice.
In the distance, more fireworks explode in the sky. The colors reflect in the glass of the ship’s front window, sparking over the reflective helmet. “Mhi solus tome,” you say slowly, careful to pronounce each word exactly right.
You’d never imagined yourself as someone who would get married, and certainly not like this.
But that was before you knew Din. And all this feels to you is right. It’s both sudden and not.
This was meant to happen. All your years with the Mandalorian lead towards this.
You repeat the rest of the vows after him, slow and deliberate.
When the final syllable rolls off your tongue, a muted kind of joy overcomes you. You’ve been a part of it for a long time, but you feel it now, the belonging to a clan and people.
Din releases you and leans back. His chest rises and falls quickly.
You close your eyes and reach for the edge of his helmet.
You want to kiss him at the very least.
But when your fingers skim over the release, he captures your wrists in one hand. You let go and Din reaches up with his opposite hand to take it off himself.
You expect him to kiss you right away, but he doesn’t. You can only feel the lingering touch of his gaze.
“Open your eyes.”
“What? No-,” you begin to protest.
“Yes. You can now, riduur.” The word rumbles out of him proudly, heavy in his mouth.
You tilt your head and frown. “Are you-,”
“This is the Way.” His voice warbles, just a little.
“Are you sure?” You get the entire question out this time.
Now it’s his turn to tease you. “No,” he says dryly. “I’ll change my mind after you open your eyes.”
“Ha ha,” you deadpan. “You’re very funny.”
“Open them.”
You think you might be more nervous than him to see his face. You honestly never thought you would get to, and you had long ago made peace with that. It didn’t matter to you what he looked like, you knew his heart and that was more than enough.
You’ve tried to picture him before, from tracing your fingers over his face, but the image is only half formed and without detail. It felt wrong, somehow, too, to try to picture the face of someone who deliberately hid it.
 Slowly, you peek your eyes open at him. Whatever you had pictured is nothing compared to the man you find yourself gazing at.
A sense of vertigo sweeps through you, because it's almost like looking at a stranger.
You have to resist the urge, for just a moment, to tear yourself away from him.
His hair is darker in color than you thought it would be, but just as feathery and lightly curled as you imagined. Din’s eyes are dark, a deep brown that you’d like to spend lifetimes memorizing, falling inside. You were right too, from your explorations of his face with your hands, about the shape of his nose, his mustache, the patchy beard. You’d pictured his eyes all wrong, the shape of jaw.
One thing you couldn’t have guessed at is the naked expressiveness in his eyes.
It makes sense though, he’s spent a lifetime without the need to school his features into anything other than exactly what he was feeling.
You wonder how many times he’s looked at you with such longing, and you never knew.
He says your name, a question mark tagged onto the end of it, his voice wrecked and strange without the modulator muffling his voice.
The sound of his voice rips the upside down feeling away. It’s his voice, it’s him. Not some handsome stranger.
Your eyes flit up from where your gaze had lingered on his lips, the pink shape of his mouth against golden skin. “I was right.”
He frowns, eyes soft and worried. It shocks you again, just how open his emotions read in his eyes. “About what?”
“I knew you were pretty. You are pretty,” you tease, pressing yourself against him, the hard contours of him biting into you. You fist your hands into the fabric at his sides. “Mesh’la.”
Din frowns at you. “I told you that means beautiful, didn’t I?” His voice is playful and doesn’t match his expression.
You nod and don’t answer, reaching up to cup your hand against his cheek. Din’s arm settles easily around your waist, dragging you closer, the weight of his helm in his hand heavy against your hip. Normally, you’d let him close the distance between you but you can’t quite manage to let him now, gazing instead at the planes of his face. “Mesh’la,” you tell him. “Ner riduur.”
“That’s my line.”
“Not anymore,” you tease. “Husband.”
You tip your chin into his and wait for him to meet you there.
He gives a slight smile before leaning into you. “Not husband. Riduur.”
“Right,” you agree, because really, it isn’t quite the same. It can’t be. “Ner riduur.”
The kiss lingers long on your lips. He’s savoring you, a warm passion that doesn’t quite extend into heat. Din’s tongue meets yours briefly, the groan it tugs from his mouth sending flashes of lightning all the way down to your toes.
The fireworks outside are no rival for the feelings clawing up the back of your throat.
You want to tell him you love him, but you think he already knows.
He breaks away to set his helmet down. When he turns back to you, his hands roam over you, free in their movement, tugging at the band of your trousers.
You can’t stop staring at him, suddenly overwhelmed, drinking in the sight of him, the naked expression of him, everything he’s thinking spread over his face like a well loved language.
All you’d wanted was to know the name he gifted you, instead - this.
You map your hand over his face, tracing the divot between his brows, the curve of one sharp cheekbone. “I never thought I would see your face,” you whisper.
Those soft, vulnerable eyes meet yours, arm wrapping around you again, as his bare forehead presses to yours, “And I always knew you would.”

You walk up the exit ramp of the Razor Crest, exhausted from a long day of running errands. It’s late at night and there’s a stillness hanging in the air. You’re excited to crawl into the bunk with Din, pressed against each other with his strong arm wrapped around you.
But when you peer inside the bunk, he’s not there. He must be up in the cockpit. That’s odd considering how late it is. You open your mouth to call out to him but you stop yourself when you hear a… familiar sound.
Modulated moans fill the small space of the Crest. He must be jerking off.
You slowly climb up the ladder, wanting to watch him in the act. Arousal pools in between your legs at the thought of watching him tug on his cock. But as soon as you’re near him, he turns the seat around to face you. You were right. His gloveless hand is wrapped around his cock, pre-cum beaded up at the tip.
“Cyar’ika,” he moans.
“Getting busy here, aren’t we?” you tease.
“Need you. Now,” he says, most likely through gritted teeth.
“Here? You don’t want to go back to the bunk?”
“Now,” he practically growls.
You’re not going to argue with that. You take off your clothes, starting with your shoes and pants, moving ever so slowly to tease him. He strokes his cock as he watches you strip, stopping himself when he gets too close.
Finally, you pull off your shirt, playfully tossing it at him. He catches it and throws it to the side, groaning, “Please. Stop messing with me.”
“I suppose you’ve waited long enough. How do you want me?”
“Get on my lap.”
You do as you’re told, straddling him in the pilot’s seat and sinking down onto his cock. He groans again, cursing under his breath in Mando’a. It’s a little hard to move yourself on him with the armrests but he takes care of that. He tugs off his other glove and grabs your waist, bouncing you up and down on his cock for you. He’s so desperate, so needy for you. His desire is animalistic, expressing itself in the way he’s absolutely using you, like you’re his toy; his toy that he gets to reduce down to a wet, shivering mess.
His cock hits the perfect angles inside you as the cockpit of the Crest is filled with the obscene, wet sounds of his cock sliding in and out of you.
“Such a good girl for letting me use her like this,” he says, visor fixed on your face and the tears building up on your lash line. You’re too far into bliss to respond with a coherent thought. Instead, you respond in a string of whimpers and moans.
“Do you like it when I use you, cyar’ika?”
“Mmm, yes, Din,” you moan just as a single tear rolls down your cheek.
He stops bouncing you on his cock for a moment to reach up and swipes it away, cocking his helmet to the side and saying, “Shh, cyar’ika, don’t cry. It’ll be over soon. You just need to cum for me, okay?”
You meet his visor and nod. Another tear spills over, running down your face. He swipes that one away too, taking the time to caress your cheek.
“That’s my girl,” he says, grabbing your waist and lifting you up and down again.
You place your hands on his shoulder pauldrons, looking for a source of purchase as he rails you. Your fingers grip the edges as you cum. Your walls clench his cock and your head is thrown back in pleasure, mangled moans and sobs forcing their way out. Even when he’s using you like a toy he does his best to hold off on his orgasm until you achieve yours. The sensation of your high triggers his and he holds you still and pressed firmly against his groin while he cums, filling you up with his spend.
Once you’re both done coming he pulls you into his chest, softly rubbing your back as you catch your breath.
“We should do this in here more often,” he muses.
“Oh yeah?” you whisper, your face beside his helmet. The cool beskar chills your skin after the vigorous amount of energy you just exerted.
“Mhm. I like using you like that,” he says. His cock is still inside you and you feel it get hard again.
“Round two?” you ask, pulling back and looking at him with a smirk.
“Round two,” he affirms.

Din teaching you Mando’a in any way he can.
Some days it’s making you repeat words and phrases over and over again, helping you perfect your pronunciation.
“Adate,”(people) he said, waving a finger between the two of you where you stood on the Crest.
“Adate.”
“Put more emphasis on the second ‘a.’”
“Adāte.”
“Jate. Adiik.”(Good. Child (between 3-13)) He pointed to Grogu.
“But he’s—”
“Say it.”
“Adiik.”
“Ori’jate. You’re getting better, mesh’la.” (Very good.)
Other times it would be more difficult, with Din speaking to you only in Mando’a, encouraging you to respond in the language.
“Copaani gaan?” He had come up behind you as you struggled to reach a wire that needed to be rewrapped under a hatch in a circuit board. (Need a hand?)
“Uh…elek.” You hesitated, hoping you had understood him properly. (Yes)
“Ni’liser gaa’tayl.” (I can help.)
“…Elek. Oh! Elek gedet’ye.” (Yes. Yes please.) You stumbled over the words, getting them out fast in the hopes that he wouldn’t point out your mispronunciation. “Vor’e.” (Thanks)
“Mirdala, cyar’ika.” He reached over your head to grab the wire. (Clever)
Your favorite teaching moments, however, were when he was fucking you. Against a wall in public, on the floor of the ship, in your bunk, it didn’t matter where it happened. He’d coerce you into speaking his native tongue, and it made you see stars.
He was pounding into you, hand lovingly wrapped around your throat as he took you against a large stone on some quiet planet in the mid rim.
“Feel good, pretty girl?” He rocked his hips into you. “Jorhaa’ir, cyar’ika.” (Speak)
You felt heat rush to your core as he spoke, attempting to follow through on his instructions. But forming words right now—in basic or in Mando’a—didn’t come easy.
“El—fuck!—elek! G—gar’ganar ner kar’ta—oh, fuck! Din!” (Yes, you have my heart.) He fucked you harder upon hearing your words, thrusting in and out of you as if it were life-or-death. It was no secret that hearing you speak Mando’a turned him on, and when you said things like that it just further encouraged him to show you how good you made him feel.
He dropped his head down to your ear, still brutally fucking you, and through his helmet you heard him whisper: “Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum.” (I love you.)
That phrase, you knew by heart.

Just Need You (Din x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Okay. This turned into waaayyyyyy more than I expected but once it started it just kept coming, and I…. I kinda love it? Like for real? These two are a mess and I’m kind of obsessed with them. (Also, thank you, Anon, for being my first Mando request and for sending a request at all! You made me happy dance, you have no idea.)
Anon asked: “Hey babes, can you do a Mando x reader where the reader is a bounty hunter and leaves the ship to complete a mission and is only supposed to be gone a few hours but they’re gone all night and Din starts to panic and the next morning they show up slightly injured sand Din completely loses it and he was so scared then feels guilty? (fluff and ANGST) (sorry this is long!)”
I do not own Star Wars or it’s characters. Sadly. But I carry them in my heart. Does that count for something? My soul says yes.
Warnings: Tooth rotting fluff, Grogu being the cutest thing you ever did see, and Din is a warning in and of himself in this one. Typical show violence. Space swearing. Arguing? Mentions of injury, brief mention of blood, stitches. Mando’a.
Word count: 4,014 (I’m this person now, okay?)
Thank you to @fordo-kixed-rex, @grippingbeskar, and @dontletyourchildrenwatchthis for reading this over for me and letting me know I’m not crazy.

“It’ll only be a few hours,” you grumbled, shoving another blaster in your belt from the weapons locker.
“Do you know anything about this planet?”
You rolled your eyes, grabbing a vibroblade to tuck into your boot. “I know it’s hot.” Reaching for a thermal detonator, a gloved hand came out to grab your wrist, stopping you just short, your fingers barely scraping along its surface. With a sigh you turned your head to your left to find the Mandalorian’s helmet inches from your face.
“I’m serious,” he said in a low voice, his grip on your wrist tightening slightly.
“So am I,” you whispered. “Mando, I’m fine. I’ve done this a few times.” He scoffed at your sarcastic remark, making you smirk. When he released your wrist, you grabbed the detonator, fixing it to the back of your belt. “Besides, like I said, this’ll be easy. In and out. This guy’s not particularly dangerous, just a bail jumper. Probably won’t even get a scratch.”
He grunted. “And when you come back limping, what do I get? Hmmm?”
You crossed your arms over your chest, leveling a flat glare on him. “That’s just rude.”
“What?” He asked innocently, holding his hands out to the sides. “I’m not saying he would hurt you. I’m saying you’re known to…. Trip. A lot.”
After a loaded moment where you two just stared in silence, the only sound the child ambling down the ladder from the cockpit, you turned to the ramp, grumbling, “I’m going now.”
Pulling the lever to release the ramp, you stood at the top as it lowered, feeling the wall of beskar hovering closer and closer behind you until finally the modulated voice taunted by your ear, “Good luck.”
A wave of hot air rolled up into the Crest, making Grogu scrunch his face and babble as he tried to scale his guardian's armor.
Din bent down and scooped up the child, cradling him in his arms and shaking his head as the little green ward squinted at the bright sunlight pouring in the now open hull. Bringing his visor back up to meet your gaze as you made last minute adjustments to your belt, he tilted his head to the side just slightly before he added, “You’re gonna need it.”
With a roll of your head to face back toward the unforgiving landscape, you began down the ramp, disappearing in the glare of the sun beating down on the barren tundra.
Tugging the lever to close the ship back up, the Mandalorian turned to the child in his arms as he cooed softly. Letting out a sigh, his shoulders rolling forward slightly as he still held on to the lever with one hand, he let his head fall forward toward the kid. “I know. I know, I miss her already too, little guy. But don’t worry. She’s gonna be okay.” Bringing the hand down from the lever to rest comfortingly on the child’s front, Din patted it distractedly. “And she’ll be right back.”

A few hours had come and passed while Din worked on a handful of odd repairs around the ship. He was currently under the control panel in the cockpit, laying on his back as he fiddled with the wiring under the console.
Grogu was playing with his ball in the copilot's chair, chittering happily about something or other.
Looking down toward the child, Din sighed, pulling Grogu’s attention to him. “Don’t worry. She’s just running a little late. That’s all.”
The kid tilted his head as he hummed questioningly at the Mandalorian. “She’s just a little late,” Din repeated, a bit more forcefully. “That’s all.” Looking back up at the mess of wiring overhead, he stared at it absently, his voice quiet. “Don’t worry.”
Xxx
More time had passed, it was the middle of the night, and Din began to pace. There wasn’t anything left on the ship to fix to occupy his time. Well, there was, but it would take hours, and you’d be back soon, probably needing to take off as soon as possible, so he didn’t want to get tied up in that.
The kid blinked blearily from a nearby crate, watching his protector pace back and forth as he ate from a ration pack. He paused his snacking, offering a warm, “Patu!” when the Mandalorian stopped for a moment. Grogu grinned when the shiny visor turned toward him soundlessly, beginning to babble aimlessly as he reached back into the ration pack to pull out a piece to offer to his friend, extending it as far as his little arms could go.
“Thanks, kid,” Din mumbled, taking the dried whatever it was and lifting his helmet just enough to take a small bite. He hummed in satisfaction once the modulator was back in place, the child grinning like he’d solved a dire problem for a world at war.
And in a way, Din guessed he had. It offered him peace, if only for a moment. His mind found rest, some silence for a beat, long enough to get some perspective, long enough to take a breath, and tamp down the worry niggling away at him under his armor.
It was an unfamiliar feeling to him, worry. Something he’d not really experienced until the child, and something he didn’t altogether quite understand. He’d been in worrying situations before, but this was different. It was removed from him. It was for something outside of himself, his control, and it drove him crazy.
You drove him crazy.
Absolutely insane.
….and he loved it.
With you gone, something was missing. Some part of him, some piece that made up the rest of him was lost, and it was like he couldn’t settle, couldn’t find any semblance of peace until you were…. Home.
He didn’t know when or how the Crest had become home, much less when you had joined that picture, but there it was.
He needed you home.
He needed you back.
He needed you….
Just needed you.
Xxx
The child was asleep in the bunk, sealed away as Din rearranged the weapons locker for probably the seventy fifth time, or something near there, it felt like. The open spots for the weapons you’d taken out yesterday glaringly obvious no matter how he rearranged things.
With another long sigh, he moved to open the ramp, and he watched as a brilliant sunrise peeked through, streaking the reflective surfaces of the Crest in shades of pink and orange.
He’d sighed enough to sail a ship across the seas on Kamino, he thought bitterly. Every huff of air an attempt to release pent up emotions, something longing in his chest, but all it did was fog up the inside of his visor. ….Which made him sigh in frustration, doing it again, and it was a whole cycle.
A figure appeared on the horizon, and his spine straightened, attention on full alert. He hoped it was you, but since it was well past when you’d said, there was no telling at this point.
The outline looked closer much faster than anticipated, and it was then he heard the hum of a speeder engine begin to whir closer. Hand going to rest on his blaster, he drew it slowly, aiming at the rapidly approaching stranger as he pressed a button on the side of his helmet to zoom in with his display.
A fog had rolled in, concealing the features of the person atop the speeder, but something in his chest began to constrict when he thought it looked a lot like you.
As the speeder swooped to a stop in front of the ramp, Din took a cautious step forward, blaster raised and aimed as he switched the safety off.
The figure astride the vehicle hopped off, stumbling slightly before pushing themselves up using the seat of the bike for leverage, grunting as they went. Taking a few wobbling steps toward the ramp, finally the figure stepped out of the fog enough for Din to see who it was, and his throat was suddenly so dry, he could barely croak out your name.
You huffed out a breathy laugh before grimacing and grabbing your right side with your hand. “I know I’m late, but, kriff, it’s no reason to shoot me, Mando.” Moaning, you slumped with your back against the speeder, head tilted back as you winced. “Actually, go ahead. It might be better than this.” With a hiss through your teeth, you slid to the ground, landing with a plop onto the dusty earth, barely registering the rapid holstering of a blaster, the heavy footfalls of beskar quickly making their way down to you, or his hurried questions over your tight lipped groans as you were lifted from the ground.
“What’s wrong? What happened? No, kid. Get back. Go to your- kid, no.”
Opening your eyes as much as you could muster, you peeked at the kid standing at the top of the ramp, his expression drawn in concern. “I’m fine, tiny. Do what he says.” The last part of the word came out on a strangled hiss as a wave of pain jolted through you, the Mandalorian adjusting his hold under your knees and behind your back with a soft apology.
“I must be dying. Did Mando just apologize to me?” Reaching out, you ran your hand exaggeratedly over his helmet, patting it down like it held something you’d lost. “Is this real? Am I dreaming? I’m hallucinating, aren’t I?”
“Be quiet, mesh’la,” he rumbled, setting you on the floor of the Crest before pressing a button on his vambrace to close the ramp.
“No! No wait!” You said as strongly as you could. Reaching out you smashed the buttons on his vambrace until you found the right one, ignoring his protests, halting the ramp's upward movement. “My bag. On the speeder. The quarry…. What’s left of him….” You relaxed back onto the floor, closing your eyes.
Din shook your shoulders, making you sit up abruptly, wincing before you turned to him. “What does mesh’la mean?”
Din hesitated only a moment. “The quarry?”
You pointed at the speeder, your eyes shutting tight in pain. “He grabbed the thermal detonator. Idiot. All that I could find left of him is in that bag. I’m never using those again. The clean up isn’t worth the credits.” Turning back up to his visor with knit eyebrows, you peeked up at him. “Can we put him on ice?” You shuddered. “I don’t want to look at that bag ever again.”
Nodding, Din ran over and jumped off the ramp, grabbing your stuff off the speeder, and freezing the bag in carbonite as the ramp sealed shut behind him. You carelessly tossed your weapons to the side, mumbling about feeling heavy, so heavy….
When Din turned back from the chamber, you were slumped back against some crates, jaw hanging open limply. As he took a cautious step toward you, he realized your chest was barely moving with your shallow breaths.
Yelling your name with no response, Din closed the last few feet left between you in seconds, sliding the last foot or so on his knees, numb to anything besides the pain in his chest at the thought of you leaving him. Not like this.
Not today.
No.
“Kid!” He said determinedly, looking across your body to find Grogu already reaching out, a few inches from you. That’s all that would come out. Tilting his head to the side pleadingly, Din turned his visor back down toward your face, smoothing some hair back away from your eyes.
Grogu understood. He always did. Putting one clawed hand on your shoulder, he closed his eyes in concentration, his already wrinkled face crinkling further.
Din watched in amazement as color returned to your face, a dull lifeless mask having settled over it before, your eyes fluttering open as you took a deep breath.
Your eyes darted over to Din before landing on the child, wide in wonder, but you didn’t say anything.
Reaching out, Din nudged him off of you with a gentle push of his finger. “Thanks, ad’ika.” Grogu blinked up at him in confusion. “I’ll take it from here. You rest.” Turning back to look down at you, he wagged a finger close to your face. “Don’t move.” (“Little one.”)
“Don’t think I could even if I wanted to,” you mumbled, smiling softly when he chuckled.
Getting to his feet with a quiet groan, Din got the med kit before settling back beside you. Peeling your blood soaked shirt up just enough to see the sear from the blaster shot along your side, he apologized quietly before he got to work cleaning and stitching the wound.
“You’re lucky. They just grazed you.”
“I know,” you mumbled, looking up at the ceiling of the Crest as he worked on the side of your abdomen, wincing every now and then. “Thank you. For not saying anything. I know, you warned me, I just….”
“You just….” He repeated your words back at you questioningly when you never attempted to finish the statement.
Blinking up at him a few times, you changed the subject. “You never told me what mesh’la means.”
Din just went back to sewing you up carefully, his head tilted to the side at an odd angle to see properly. Silence settled between you, and you’d accepted that’s how it would be - this was normal for him, after all - until he spoke so quietly you almost missed it.
“Beautiful.”
“Wha-”
“It means beautiful.”
Smiling softly, you winced when he pulled the thread taught. “And adi- ad- the kid? What you called him?” Stumbling over the word, you pointed to the little green face in his hammock for reference.
The Mandalorian chuckled, his voice a little louder now, but only slightly. “Little one.”
Looking at the little one, you smiled, nodding. “It fits. Speaking of,” you turned back to face your reflection in his visor. “What the hell did he do to me?”
Sucking in a sharp breath, Din paused in his work for a moment, bringing his gaze up to look at you straight on. “He’s…. Special.”
“Yeah, I’ll say,” you snorted, turning back to face the child, finding him peeking over the edge of the hammock, only from his nose up showing, and of course, his ears. Smiling, you tilted your head at him affectionately. “You could open a sideshow. Make some nice credits between quarry’s.”
“You sound like Peli,” Din grumbled.
“Hey, that woman has wisdom, you should listen to her.” You held up a finger while speaking, sitting up straighter, only to collapse in on yourself as Din tugged the stitches tight with a grunt and began working on them again.
Another silence settled in between you, filling the spaces between breaths with something comfortable and familiar.
“Well, Mando,” you finally decided to break it. “Have you eaten?”
“The…. The child fed me.”
You hesitated. “I…. I’m sorry?”
“Yes,” he said instead, tying off the stitches as he cleared his throat, reaching for a gauze pad to cover them. “And it’s Din.”
You blinked at him, your mind failing to keep up with the last few topics, especially still struggling with the image of the tiny baby feeding the giant beskar warrior. Amusing as it was. “I’m so lost.”
The Mandalorian stayed silent as he used some adhesive to keep the pad on your side, smoothing it down gently with a gloved hand. He fumbled in the kit for something else, but you couldn’t see, your pant leg being tugged by impossibly small green hands drawing your attention away.
The child ambled up into your lap and settled, giggling when you yelped at a sharp pain in your side. Looking down you saw the Mandalorian withdrawing a bacta shot and letting your shirt fall back down to cover it before turning your fury up toward his visor.
“My name,” he explained simply. “It’s Din.”
“That hurt!” Your face crumpled from anger to nothing. “Wait. What?”
“You heard me,” he said tiredly, but amused, as he collected the used items and the kit, taking them back over to the corner they came from.
“I did,” you nodded, staring at the floor. “And…. Wait. What?” Looking back over at him, you groaned as you pushed yourself up with the help of some crates at your back.
Grogu’s hand resting on your cheek instantly relieved some of the pain, pulling your focus down to him. “That will never not be amazing,” you breathed with a smile.
Din rushed over, helping you to sit on top of the boxes you’d just used as leverage.
“Sit,” you demanded, finger pointed at him.
With a sigh, he obliged, plopping on the crate next to you gracelessly.
“Explain.”
“When I was born, my parents had to give me a moniker-”
“Don’t make me shoot you.”
With the heaviest sigh you’d heard yet, he leaned back against the hull of the Crest. He looked so tired.
When he began speaking, it was the softest voice you’d ever heard him use, and somehow that made you pay more attention than anytime he’d yelled at you in the middle of a firefight.
“When you were gone…. I realized something.”
“….Be more cryptic. Please.” You sassed when he didn’t continue after a long moment, only raising your eyebrows at him when he rolled his visor toward you with as much attitude as you had just voiced. The kid squeaked something as his own contribution, pulling your eyes down to him, and you pointed at him, nodding in agreement before looking back at Man- Din. “Yeah!”
Din couldn’t help the snort of laughter that escaped as he turned his head back to look across the lower level of the Crest at nothing in particular.
“I don’t know what I would do…. If I lost you. If I really lost you.” He looked down at his hands as he fiddled with the ends of his gloves needlessly. “I’ve…. I’ve only ever felt that way about the kid, and- and I honestly don’t know what to do with this.” He looked at you again, and somehow this time you could feel his eyes on you, not just the weight of his visor. “Don’t know how.”
Holding his gaze in silence, you let his words sink in. It’s a lot to process. In reality, it’s not much, but emotionally, you need a minute. Everything you thought you knew about this man has just been turned on its head, and you just…. Need a minute.
When you didn’t say anything, Din nodded silently, going to rise from the crate when you reached out to stop him, hand resting over his. Opening your mouth, you stared at your reflection in his visor, then turned your face to look at the floor as if it held the words you needed.
From the corner of your eye you saw Din’s shoulders deflate, roll forward in defeat, but you put a stop to that with a squeeze of his hand in yours. Weaseling your fingers into his clenched fist to open it, you threaded them with his, holding tight while you searched for the words, using the grip as an anchor while you took a leap.
“Din,” you tried, smiling at the way it felt rolling off your tongue, enjoying the way he squeezed your hand at the sound, and his breath stuttered through the modulator.
“Din,” you said more confidently, unable to shake the smile as you go on. “There is nothing I can think of that would make me happier in the entire galaxy than anything you just told me.” Pulling your eyes up toward his visor, you looked at him through your lashes, face still down towards the floor. “When I’m here, on this piece of shit ship-”
“Watch it,” Din mumbled good-naturedly.
“-I have never felt safer or more at home anywhere in my life.” Lifting your face up to him in some insane wave of courage, you squeezed his hand again. “And whether that’s as your friend, or…. Whatever,” you tucked your face into your chest for a moment to hide the smile that’s not going anywhere. “I’m just honored to get to be a part of…. This.” You gestured around the ship then between the two of you and a sleeping Grogu in your arms with your joined hands before resting them back on his knee softly. “Din,” you mumbled around another grin, unable to shake the renewed pull of your lips no matter how you tried. “I’m honored to know you.”
After staring at one another for a long moment, Din finally shook his head in amusement, gently tugging you closer by your joined hands. “Well that’s all nice, but…. I was thinking of something a little more…. Personal.”
“Oh, thank the Force,” you said in relief, letting your eyes flutter shut as he rested his forehead against yours. “Ner cyare.” (“My beloved.”)
Din pulled away slightly, tilting his head at you in question.
You just kept grinning. “Elek, Ni jorhaa'i Mando'a.” (“Yes, I speak Mando'a.”)
Shaking his head at you, he began to chuckle. “Mir'sheb,” he mumbled. “Then why ask me all about what I said?” (“Smartass.”)
“I just wanted to see if you would tell me. You’re always so secretive.” You narrowed your eyes at him playfully. “Plus, it also seemed kind of important to you, so I didn’t want to ruin it.”
Din tilted his head to the side as he stared at you, shaking it in disbelief and amusement. “Well, way to go with that.”
The smile wasn’t going anywhere, and you didn’t mind. “I also know Huttese, Jawaese, and- oh, what else? What would you like to hear, I’ll see if I can make it happen.”
Tilting his beskar back against your soft skin, he watched as your lashes fluttered to look up at him. Despite being so close, and not truly being able to see him through the visor, he felt like you really could. And for the first time in his life, he didn’t want to hide from that feeling.
“I just want to hear about your hunt while we get off this hellhole,” he mumbled, standing and lifting the child from your arms. Tucking him into his hammock before sealing him in, he turned back to find you standing at the ladder to the cockpit, looking at it like it’d wronged you. “What’s wrong?”
Looking up into his visor, you pouted. “I don’t think I can get up there with these stitches pulling against me the whole way up.”
“Oh, come on,” he teased, touching his forehead to yours one more time briefly simply because he could now, then turning you to face the ladder and mumbling right into your ear as he crowded in behind you. “You just got shot today, and you’re complaining about stitches?”
“I’m not complaining, it’s a genuine concern,” you mumbled, fighting another grin trying to tug up the corners of your lips.
“Well, don’t be concerned,” he lilted, taking a step closer and making you begin up the ladder with nowhere left to go but up. “I’m right behind you, the whole way. I won’t let you fall.” His voice softened as you began climbing the ladder, and true to his word, he stayed behind you, almost caging you in the whole way. “Don’t worry.”
“I can see that,” you mused, climbing up into the cockpit with a soft smile. “I’m not.”
Din brushed past you, settling into the pilot’s seat, beginning the take off sequence. “Now. Tell me about this quarry.”
You sighed, plopping into the copilot seat with a roll of your eyes. “Oh, you would not believe the chaos that started from the moment- the moment-” you held up your finger, pausing for emphasis as you closed your eyes for dramatic effect, “I was off this ship.”
Din spun in his seat to face you as the ship began to lift off, his voice smug. “Try me.”

Din was observing you and Grogu from the entrance of the Razor Crest, arms crossed across his chest as he leaned against one of the walls of the ship. He smiles to himself when he hears the child giggling after you put a flower at the top of his little head, immediately reaching out with some difficulty to grab a flower from the ground and offering it to you.
"Thank you, Grogu. It's very pretty!" you say to the baby, who looked absolutely thrilled to realize you liked his gift.
The kid stands from the ground, lifting both of his arms as a sign that he wants to be carried. Already familiar with the gesture, you quickly lift him up from the ground before laying on your back in the middle of the landscape filled with lilac and light pink flowers. The baby giggles again, holding onto you as you both lay there.
Din's smile fades just enough shortly after that when the inevitable thought pops in his head again. That annoying and sudden thought that always makes an appearance during the day.
At first he didn't mind, finding ways to always push it away before it got to him. However, it's been more and more frequent these past couple of days and it's becoming a bad habit he seems unable to control at this point, and it's starting to really annoy him.
His mind is filled with all these doubts and insecurities. Not only because of the content of what he's thinking, but because it's completely impossible to push it away now. Almost like an avalanche, it falls down the mountain at a rapid, devastating speed and it only seems to get bigger as minutes pass. It destroys everything in its way. In this case, the prime and only victim is Din.
Perhaps the worst part is that it always ruins what should be pleasant moments. If Grogu is looking up at him from the ground begging to be carried, the thought is there. Whenever you wrap your arms around him or grab his hand when the two of you are exploring yet a new planet, it's there. Even when he's trying to sleep right next to you, hearing the faint sounds of the baby already asleep, you can bet that thought will be there to torture him.
Because all of those little moments he shares with his partner and son remind him of the fact that neither of them even know who he is. Sure, they know how he is, but not who.
Every touch is not really a touch, it's just skin brushing against a uniform. Every exchange has a helmet hiding his features. They can hear him laugh, but they don't see his eyes squinting just enough and the smile that adorns his face. They can hear him remind them of his never-ending love for them, but they don't get to look into his eyes as he says it.
And it hurts because his mind has tricked him to believe none of those moments are real. Because they've never seen the man that claims to care for them so much, none of it is genuine. It's just touching a uniform and hearing empty words coming from a helmet. It almost makes him feel like a droid rather than a human, leaving him longing for that real connection.
He knows he probably shouldn't, but he craves that actual contact, which is something he never felt before you two showed up in his life.
Being a Mandalorian and living by their code was easy. He never even considered breaking his vow because nothing and no one was ever worth it. What could possibly be more important than this? That's what he would always ask himself and he wasn't able to come up with an answer– until you and Grogu showed up.
Now that you two are here, it's obvious to him that his priorities have changed. He wants to commit to an entirely new code. To prove his undying fidelity to his family and make a vow to the two of you.
But that brings another set of insecurities that make this entire situation a lot more difficult for him. As much as he needs to truly feel connected to you, he's terrified of what that connection means. It's obvious that in order to obtain that, he needs to take off his uniform. Most precisely, his helmet– which is something he has never done in front of anyone. Ever.
So that's when his mind is yet again filled with negative thoughts. What if you don't like what's under the helmet? What if you already have a picture of him in your head and he disappoints you because he looks nothing like it? What if you suddenly don't love him anymore because he's not what you expected at all? And what if Grogu rejects him too? He couldn't deal with either of you not liking what has been hiding underneath all the Beskar.
That's the complicated mess that's been haunting him for a few weeks. That inner struggle he has tried to keep hidden from the two of you. Should the helmet stay on despite being an obstacle to reach the depths of connection he needs to have with his family, or should he remove it and risk rejection? Is it better to settle or search for more?
He feels pathetic. The supposedly fearless bounty hunter is terrified of even thinking about taking a risk. Going on adventures used to be a lifestyle. Now, the mere idea of it is enough to fill his mind with self-doubt, making it almost impossible for him to make a decision.
He thought about it later that day when the three of you were already inside the Razor Crest and getting ready to go to bed, really considering his options and trying to create different outcomes to this hypothetical conversation that kept playing inside his head.
You were telling Grogu a bedtime story when Din joined the two of you. He sat on the bed and listened to you speak as he watched the baby, who was struggling to keep his eyes open at that point, holding onto the little blanket covering his body.
By the time the story was over, Grogu was already completely asleep. You carefully brushed his face with your pointer finger in an affectionate manner, smiling down at him before focusing on Din.
"Ready to go to bed?" you asked.
"You'll tell me a bedtime story too?"
The comment made you laugh. "I think you're a little old for bedtime stories."
"Ouch. I'm not old."
"I said a little old," you quickly correct, putting both of your hands on his shoulders. He quickly lifted a hand that was resting on your hip a few seconds later. "Not the same as just old."
You smile down at him as he gently caresses you from your hip all the way down your thigh before his gloved fingers trails back up. Your smile inevitably takes him to the dark corners of his mind again because he knows you won't be able to see him smiling back at you.
His next words came out very impulsively. "Can we talk?"
Evidently, you were a little concerned after hearing that given the tone he used. "Is there something wrong?"
"I've just been thinking a lot lately...there's something that's been bothering me and it won't leave my head."
"Okay..." you said, trying to be receptive to what he was saying but still having no idea of what's going on.
"Neither of you know what I look like," he decides to simply confess. Why would he try to over explain something that is actually quite easy to say? "And I've never...you know, actually touched you," he adds, his helmet titling towards his hand still resting on your hip, hinting at the glove covering it.
"I mean, yes...but that's because you're a Mandalorian. It's what your people do, right?"
Din nods after your words. "It's part of our code, but...I don't know. It's been bothering me because lately this entire uniform feels like an obstacle. I still feel like it's a part of me but...it also stands in between us."
"I've told you how I feel about the suit," you quickly say in a soft, reassuring voice. "I don't mind it one bit."
"I know, I know. This isn't because of something you did or said," Din explains. "I guess my priorities have changed."
"You mean...?"
"I mean, I care more about connecting with you than with my traditions. I've started to question things I never took a second to consider before you and Grogu showed up. I want to be able to touch you– really touch you. And I want to look at you and talk to you. Not through a visor and a modulator," he further explains, feeling like a weight is lifted off his shoulders. "I don't need to be a Mandalorian when I'm with you two. I just need to be Din."
"Oh, darling," you start affectionately, feeling so incredibly in love with the man sitting in front of you. "Whatever it is that you want and need, I'll support you no matter what. Helmet or no helmet, you're still the guy I fell in love with."
"Really?" he asks with evident worry.
"Of course," you immediately reassure him.
"I guess it took me too long to talk about this because...well, I didn't know if you'd like what's underneath the uniform."
"Din," you call in a very serious voice, hoping that'll hint just how much you mean your next words. "I love you so much. I love you because you're the kindest man I've ever met. You're loyal, passionate, brave...and you care so much about me and Grogu. I could stay here and mention a trillion things about you that make me fall in love with you every single day. You're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with and nothing in this world is ever going to change what I feel."
He was quiet for what felt like forever, simply staring up at you while you held the helmet in between your hands so you could stare directly at his visor where his eyes should be.
"You can't see it but I'm smiling, by the way. This is a good silence," he offers, which immediately makes you laugh.
"Is it okay if I take it off and see that smile for myself?"
He hesitated before answering. "Are you sure you won't change your mind?"
"I promise I won't change my mind."
There was another pause before he finally answered. "Okay..."
You start to remove his helmet in a gentle, slow manner. If he wanted to stop you, he could at any second. You really didn't want to rush it because you still wanted to give him a chance to back down if he wanted to.
The fact that he wears the helmet all day in front of you has never been an issue. You fell in love with the person he is, whatever he looks like couldn't possibly matter any less to you. That love is not going anywhere. Ever.
It looks like Din is confident in his decision because he doesn't stop you at any point. He continues to keep one of his hands attached to your hip and the other rests on his lap for a few seconds until he uses it to help you completely remove his helmet.
Still holding it with both of your hands, you look down to admire his face. You can tell by his expression that he's terrified as he stares back at you, impatient for any hint of rejection. He was still expecting to see the disappointment all across your features before you take a step back from him and reveal he's nothing like what you expected.
But that disappointment never appeared. Instead, he's relieved to see the smile forming on your face before you leave the helmet next to him on the bed, immediately reaching out to grab his face.
Din practically melts under your touch, closing his eyes and focusing on just how good it feels to have your skin touching him for the very first time. The way your soft fingers trace his cheeks before they move down to his jaw...it feels like absolute heaven.
And you take your time with that. Your digits explote his features as if contemplating them wasn't enough. You needed to touch every inch of his face in order to truly appreciate what's in front of you.
The most beautiful sight ever. The man you love so much, looking even more handsome than you could've ever predicted. From his soft brown eyes to the hint of a beard, he's so perfect you can't believe you're seriously this lucky.
"So?" he dares to ask. Hearing his voice without the modulator for the very first time almost made you feel goosebumps all over your body. How is this man so pretty?
You could've just said that. You could've stood there and told him over and over how pretty he is, but it didn't feel like it was enough. No words would ever begin to explain the admiration you have for this man, even before you knew what he looked like.
After feeling his skin for the very first time, you could only crave more. It was probably that inefficiency of words and the need for more contact that made you lean down and kiss him for the very first time.
He kissed you back instantly, the grip on your hip tightening just enough as he completely gave in to you.
It was evident you were his first kiss, but that detail couldn't be any more insignificant right now. His lack of experience didn't bother you. All you could think about is how lucky and happy you are to have him as your partner.
The kiss lasted for a few more seconds before you pulled away, failing to hide your smile when you saw his face. It was evident he was already missing the way your lips feel against his.
You stare at him again for a bit, caressing his flushed cheeks, before you finally decide to speak. "Does that answer your question?" Din was still too lost in his thoughts to reply out loud, so he simply nodded. His reaction after your first kiss made you giggle, and you swore right there that you've never felt happier in your life. "Good. I'd like to kiss you again if that's okay."
Another nod, this time looking more desperate, was all you needed to kiss him again. You got more comfortable as you sat on his lap, knowing you'll be there kissing him for a bit, feeling his arms wrap around your lower back to keep you close as soon as you sat down.
And as he holds you in his arms, he knows he made the right choice, silently vowing to be yours for as long as you allow him to.

3 days, 12 hours, and 30 ish minutes. That was the last time Din kissed you, but you totally weren’t counting. How long has it been since he’s touched you? Hugged you? Acknowledged you for anything other than the bare minimum? Your anxious thoughts flew through your mind as you tied up your boots. He had become more and more distant each day since you had found Natalie.
About a week ago you were in the forest looking for a frog to sneak to Grogu. He had listened to you all day and deserved a treat for being a good boy. That is when you came upon a girl, no older than 20. She was almost nude, shivering, and covered in dirt. And drop dead gorgeous.
Against your better judgement you took her back to the crest. Din had basically done the same for you when he found you, why not return the favor?
Natalie showed up in the middle of an awkward time in you and Din’s relationship. Sure, flirty banter has been there ever since you’ve known him. But the last few months you two have been together- sort of. It was confirmed by mutual feelings but never said out loud. You two were everything but girlfriend and boyfriend. I mean, you could have sworn Grogu said ‘mama’ last week. You were raising a child as well as taking the risk of making a new one. He had shown you his face. You had to be something. There was no way you weren’t- right?
Shaking your head and grabbing your weapon, you followed the sound of giggling from outside.
“He does tricks?” Natalie asked, head cocked perfectly in Din’s direction. Her ponytail flew perfectly in the breeze.
“Well, sometimes. Grogu- where’s your ball? Did you leave it on the crest?” Din playfully asked his son, tickling his stomach. All he got and expected as a response was a ‘coo’ from the child.
Taking in the sight of your… Din and Grogu and her made you sick. I mean, she was even wearing your clothes. How much more sick could this get?
“Ready?” you asked, approaching the two hanging your blaster from your belt.
“Actually, I think Natalie and I are going to stay back. I promised her I would teach her how to shoot and…” Din said, the tone in his voice weary.
He saw the way your face dropped, but it flew completely over his head. Your mouth was slightly agape. You stared at him. Then her. Then him.
“Y/N?” Din coughed, breaking you from your haze. “Yeah sure. I’ll take Grogu into town with me.” you said flatly. Without hesitating, you reached for Grogu sitting in his pouch on Din’s waist (god that tiny waste drove you nuts) and secured him in your scarves.
Walking to the speeder, you watched as Din brought Natalie over to the hill the crest was parked on, letting her aim his blaster. His blaster, the one you were forbidden to touch. The pit in your stomach kept growing larger and larger and falling deeper and deeper.
Grogu cooed, noticing his mother was upset. “I’m alright, kid.” you said, smiling putting on a strong face for him. Of course, he could sense everything that was wrong and your phony smile couldn’t fool him. A sad sigh exhaled from the child as he placed his forehead and a tiny green hand on your chest where he sat tightly.
At least someone still wanted you.
Jiggling through the lanyard that was attached to your waist looking for the speeder key, you heard a shout from behind you.
“Y/N!” Din yelled, waving his hand with a slight run towards you.
Your face perked up. A slight smile came on your lips. He was coming back to give you a goodbye kiss, you just knew it.
“Hey,” he said, slightly out of breathe as he reached the speeder. You were ready. Leaning over the speeder towards him, your eyes met through his viser.
“Don’t forget those to buy those special nuts I like. The ones with dragon berry? Remember?”
Your perfect moment was crushed.
“Yup,” is all you could manage out. Your hand had grasped the right key and you sped off, leaving a trail of dust behind you.
***
It was now midday. The hot sun beat down on the two of you. Your scarves were draped over your head, shielding the sun from your eyes.
You felt a tiny scratch on your chest. “Yes, yes. Calm down, we’re going to the Cantina for some food.”
One more sale and it was lunch. The bag of credits in your sleeve pocket was still heavy. You were skimming the blaster modifications when you heard a squeal.
“Is that her, Din?” you heard Natalie say from feet away. “Shh!” he hushed her.
He told her his name. Not Mando anymore. Din.
“Y/N!” Natalie yelled from across the market. You grinded your teeth and took a deep breathe, abandoning any interest in the parts.
“Hi!” you said with the fakest smile you had ever had on your face. “How did you two get here without a speeder?” you asked, a pissed tone silently rode off your lips as your eyes stabbed into his beskar helmet.
“We walked! It was such a nice time in the forest. An hour goes by really fast when your having fun.” Natalie smiled aimlessly at you.
As you couldn’t see, Din was behind his mask with the most tired eyes and annoyed face known to man.
You swallowed.
“I’m starving. Could you get me some food Din?” she said again using his name. “Mando.” he corrected her. “Oh right. We’re using our made up names.” she whispered, giggling heading towards the Cantina.
He stood there for a second, looking you up and down. You knew him well enough behind the mask to notice what he was doing. “Don’t fucking even,” you scoffed, following the bubbly girl into the Cantina. “Don’t what?” he asked, following you confused into the loud bar.
You felt the tears begin to well up in your eyes. Making your way to the bathroom, you shook Din’s hand off of yours trying to gain your attention. “Please,” you yelled a little too loudly, yanking your hand away and making a bee line towards the restroom.
You slammed the stall door shut and waited for the heavy beskar boots to follow you in. He wasn’t the type to leave you. Ever. You waited.
And waited.
And waited. And they never came.
Sitting on the toilet sobbing, you barely remembered Grogu was there. Another scratch on your chest reminded you that he was hungry.
“I know, I know. I’m sorry.” you sniffled, wiping your eyes and attempting to clean up your red face.
Staring at yourself in the bathroom mirror felt stupid. You had so much pity for yourself. Your braid has become more loose than it was this morning. Strands of loose hair rested next to your face. Your boots had mud on them. Now was not the time to be critiquing yourself but you couldn’t help it. How could you not? Natalie was beautiful, more pretty than you’d ever be. Right?
This time Grogu let out a small growl and you gave in. Turning the corner, you were grabbed near the exit and thrown back into the bathroom.
Laying on the floor confused, you looked up at your attacker. A giant creature with blue horns stared down at you with a smirk on his face.
“I saw that pretty bag of coins on your wrist, ma’am.” he scowled, pointing his long knife down at you. “I would appreciate if we did this the easy way.” he said cracking his neck in both directions.
The blade rested on the middle of your chest. Grogu, being the curious creature he is poked his head out of your swaddle you had made him.
“Well well well, what is this?” he asked, moving the knife to bump the scarf you had around your chest. “I think I will be taking both.” he smiled, revealing his yellow crooked teeth.
Panic flashed your mind as you rolled over, shielding Grogu from his grasp. He let out a loud yell in anger and didn’t hesitate to swipe his dagger at your shoulder, leaving a pretty nasty cut.
“Fuck!” you yelled out in pain, holding the open wound.
Grogu being the good boy he is (he deserves another frog) rolled out of your grasp and waved his tiny hand in the air. The dagger flew from the attackers hand and right into your grasp.
“Good boy,” you whispered as you didn’t hesitate to stab the man near his groin. He cried out in pain as you twisted the knife, then pulled it out. It was covered in purple blood.
You scooped up Grogu and made your way back into the crowded Cantina. You spotted Din with his elbow resting comfortably on the counter talking to Natalie.
“… and then Greef started to complain about-”
“We need to go.” you said in a low voice, grabbing his hand and pulling in the opposite direction. “What?” he asked. “What’s that?” Natalie asked loudly, pointing at the dripping dagger in your hand.
“Shut it for once, won’t you?” you yelled at her. A wave of concern flew over Natalie’s face. “Hey!” Din yelled, sticking his finger in your face. You had to ignore the intrusive thought to bite it.
A large roar came from the Cantina bathroom exit. Everyone’s eyes turned to the creature. “You little bitch!” the man yelled, meeting your eyes in the crowd.
“We need to go.” you ordered, slipping out of the entrance. Looking behind you and gripping Grogu close, you ran to the speeder. Din quickly followed without Natalie on his tail.
You straddled the speeder as you heard your attacker’s yells from behind you. He was a few feet behind Din. At that point, Natalie began to stumble out of the Cantina.
Din held up his hand, signaling for you to start the speeder. The wound on your arm throbbed. With one hand cradling a sleeping Grogu and the other on the speeder handle, you prepared for the worst.
Din made it just in time. “Go go!” he yelled, grabbing your waist tightly as you sped off. That man and Natalie were left in the dust.
The speeder tumbled as you reached the crest. You meant to get fuel on your way back, but that obviously didn’t get to happen.
As the two of you finally stopped, you sat for a moment in silence.
Finally, you flipped around. You handed Din a sleeping Grogu and turned to go back in the crest. Your face was stone cold.
“Are you okay?” Din asked wearily. He was most definitely not getting a response. You walked through the hatch and made it to the medical cabinet. It was funny, you had forgot you had put on a white shirt today and not a crimson one.
“Is that blood?” he asked, removing his helmet and setting Grogu inside of it. He liked to nap there sometimes, it was warm and smelt of his father.
“Why do you care? I’m surprised your not back on your speeder going to find Natalie.” you hissed, cutting your sleeve off to reveal the wound.
“Fuck!” you yelled as the bloody sleeve rolled down your arm. “What? Cy’are what happened?” Din asked, rushing to your aid. “Get away from me.” you hissed back at him, struggling to see straight. “Let me help.” he demanded. “Go ffffucking find her.” you slurred.
Blood was definitely lost.
“Sit for gods sake.” he yelled, pulling up a chair behind you. He pulled out the bacta cream and bandages. “You b-better not fucking touch me Din Djarin,” you yawned.
Ignoring you, he wiped the blood away from the wound. It wouldn’t need stitches, but it would leave a nasty scar. He applied the cream and wrapped your arm up. “Too tight?” he asked, his eyes peering into yours.
“I don’t know why your so worried about me when we left Natalie out there.” you bitched. “Seriously Y/N, too tight or not.” he said ignoring your comment.
“You told her your name?” you slurred, the blood loss just beginning to regenerate.
“What? No. She heard you call me it last night.”
“Oh.”
“Why were you all over her? You could barely even speak to me. It’s obvious that you were just going to leave me somewhere and take her instead.” you mumbled, staring at your muddy and now bloodied boots.
“What?” Din asked, astonished. “What are you talking about, Cy’are?”
He bent down in front of you, his hands on both of your thighs. “Don’t lie,” you said, turning your head away from his. Tears began forming in your eyes.
“Your in love with her Din.”
Din wrapped his arms around your waist and rested his head on your thighs. “You are dreaming, my love.”
“Then why did you-”
“I stayed with her because I thought you couldn’t stand her. I thought I was doing you a favor.” he explained.
I mean he wasn’t wrong.
“But what about-”
“Shh,” he shushed you. “I’m horrible but I’m glad we left her at the Cantina. I didn’t know how much longer I could have gone with her constantly at my hip. I couldn’t be with you, I was starting to loose my mind.”
You carefully grabbed a handful of his brown curly hair. You always forgot how soft it was, never being able to touch it under all that beskar.
“Really?” you sniffled, using your other hand to wipe the tear away.
“We have about another 45 minutes to get off this planet.” he hummed into your jeans, kissing your thigh before returning upright.
“I can’t believe you thought I liked her better,” Din scoffed, now towering over you.
“You let her use your blaster?” you questioned. “She grabbed it.” he sighed, laughing at your question. “So am I allowed to touch it now?” “Absolutely not.”
“But why did you ignore me then? Not even anything. No good morning kiss or sleeping in the same bed or…” “Oh.” he sighed. “I thought you wanted to keep it quiet? Not let her know. I’m sorry,”
“I’d let the whole galaxy see you touch me,” you mumbled. A smile rose to Din’s lips.
His hand turned to your cheek, cupping it ever so lightly. His thumb brushed over your lips. He bent down, giving you a soft kiss on your tear stained lips.
“You over anyone, cy’arika. How I’ve missed you.”

bonus:
You lay in his warm grasp for the first time in over a week. His warm skin rested on yours. The hum of the open galaxy surrounding the ship filled your ears. Din’s messy hair sat on him well. His arms ran across your bare chest, holding you with ever such ease. His breaths became more shallow with each second.
“Hey,” he whispered groggily in your ear, pulling you closer. “Mhm,” you replied, pushing yourself into his embrace. You were expecting an ‘I love you’ or ‘I missed your body’ or something romantic.
“Did you remember my nuts? The dragon berry ones?”
“God dammit Din,” you sighed, closing your eyes.
“Did you remember?” he asked, sitting up in bed and peering down at you with a raised eyebrow.
“No Din. I forgot your fucking nuts.”

Stay Still
Pairing: Din Djarin x reader
Category: Hurt/Comfort
Summary: Din cares for you after you're injured protecting Grogu.
Warnings: cannon typical violence, injury
Note: Apparently this is a draft clean out day :) Please let me know if you all want a part 2, this was something I started a couple years ago and couldn't figure out how to finish until now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
     “Mando!” You looked for him frantically, pressing Grogu tight against your chest as blaster fire rained over you. You had found a pile of rocks and rusty metal parts to crouch behind for cover. Din had told you to take Grogu and run for the ship. You hadn’t made it before the blaster assault came from every direction, forcing you to stop.
Now you were trapped, breathing hard, firing occasional shots and searching for Din. If Grogu got injured because you couldn’t run fast enough, you'd never forgive yourself. But you would die before that happened, a thought you knew was in danger of becoming reality.
The ground next to your foot erupted in dust and smoke as whoever shooting got closer to his target.
     “Mando!” You cried, cradling Grogu as he whimpered and clung to you. “Mando, where are you?!”
     He didn’t respond. You couldn’t see him hiding in the rocky, barren terrain. But that was good. Perhaps whoever was shooting couldn’t see him either.
     You set your jaw and readied your blaster, looking down at Grogu who looked up at you with wide eyes. “Hold on, little one. We’re going to get to the ship.”
     Grogu seemed to understand, his little hands gripping you even tighter. The blaster fire grew heavy and close. It was going to pierce your hideout any moment now. Your insides were trembling and you felt tears stinging your eyes. You tucked Grogu against you and took a breath. Then you scrambled out from behind the rocks and ran for your life to the ship.
     You didn’t make it.
The ramp was lowered and in sight. There was barely two strides left between the end of the clay ground and cool metal. A sharp pain stabbed your right leg from behind and you cried out, landing just short of the ramp. Grogu squirmed out of your grip, crying and looking around frantically. You gasped against the raging pain. You pushed Grogu forward, praying that his powers would keep him safe. “Get to the ship!”
     And that’s when you heard it. Blaster fire coming from the ship’s entrance. You looked up to see Din running down the ramp and firing back at the shooters. Grogu ran to him as fast as his little legs could go. Mando scooped him up and deposited him safely inside the ship.
     You struggled to stand once more, the blood slick on the back of your leg. Din’s arm wrapped around you, helping you to walk. With a few struggling steps the two of you were finally inside the ship. Din smacked the controls and raised the ramp, his shoulders relaxing as it closed with a thud, blocking out the storm of phaser blasts.
     “We have to go,” You told him, squirming against the pain as Din set you down on the floor. “Din, we have to go!”
     “You’re going into shock.” Din pulled off his helmet and sat it next to Grogu who was watching with big, frightened eyes. He pulled off his gloves next.
     “Is Grogu okay?”
“He’s fine. Now stay still.”
You jumped as the blaster fire continued. “It’s not safe here, we have to move the ship.” You started to get up. “I’ll start the pre-launch,”
“Stay still!” Din put a hand to your shoulder, pushing you back to the ground hard.
"Din!" You started to argue, but that's when the pain hit. Hot and intense, it ripped through you as if you had been shot all over again. You screamed and grabbed at your leg, only vaguely aware of Din keeping you in place as he fixed a tourniquet to your leg.
He talked to you, his voice steady. But you couldn't tell what he was saying as the pain and darkness took control. Something like "I love you" wafted through the haze. But perhaps it was the delirium from the pain. Regardless you reached for him, grasping his sleeve, hoping that you would remember to ask him when you woke up.
Provided you did ever wake up...

Tumblr media
The sound of the ramp lowering jostled you out of your near sleep. You had curled up in the pilot’s seat wrapped in a blanket waiting for Din to return. The sun had sank long ago, meaning Grogu had been out like a light in his hammock for hours now. You lost track of time watching the stars creep across the sky wondering what pictures and stories this planet’s inhabitants had found in them, the myths they told to their children about the beings who made their home in the night sky.
You stretched your stiff legs and made your way down the ladder with the blanket over your shoulders to see if Din needed any help with his bounty. You turned to see him struggling up the ramp, blood trailing from both him and the body he had tied up. You dropped the blanket and ran to him.
“Get inside, I’ll take care of this,” you instructed.
“I can—“
“Get. In. Side.” you repeated with a glare.
Din limped into the cargo hold and let his weight drop onto a crate near the entrance. You grabbed the quarry and lifted it into the carbonite chamber with ease, shoving it in with your shoulder and turning the controls to freeze him. The body was much bigger than you, but adrenaline had taken over, you wanted to get to Din.
You rushed past him to grab the med kit and cauterizer, taking a deep breath to steady yourself before returning to his side.
“What happened?” you asked looking him over to find the source of the blood.
“Knives were his choice of weapon,” he said through gritted teeth.
His flight suit was in tatters on his abdomen revealing a series of smaller cuts and a lengthy one along his ribs. His right thigh was gushing blood from what appeared to be a deeper wound.
“Maker,” you almost whispered. Your hands went to his boots. “May I?”
He nodded and you made quick work of unbuckling his boots and shin guards and pulling them off his feet. You reached for what remained of his pants giving him the same look as before, asking his permission. He nodded, knowing he had no other choice. He lifted himself up for you to carefully shimmy them down his thighs and get a better look.
“How long ago did this happen?” you grimaced as you tried to clean the perimeter of the wound of any dirt and loose threads. You weren’t thinking about the fact that he was basically sitting in front of you in his underclothes, but he certainly was.
He swallowed thickly, “A couple hours at least.”
You stopped to look up at him, “You’ve been walking around like this for hours? You’ve probably lost so much blood,” you said with a fresh urgency.
“I wanted,” he groaned, “To get home to you. I had been away far too long as it was.”
He would choose now of all times to say something sentimental, but your hands and your mind were in autopilot as you prepared the bacta shot.
“Jare,” you cursed under your breath, no idea at the smile resting on his lips at hearing you speak his native tongue. His hand found your face and tilted your chin up to face him.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet,” you said taking advantage of him being distracted and injecting him with the bacta.
“Kriff,” he grunted as you pulled the needle out.
You reached for some gauze and clean bandages to wrap around the already healing wound. He breathed a sigh of relief as the cooling rush flowed through his body. You tightly wrapped his thigh, hands holding it gently. You rested your cheek against the inside of his knee and allowed yourself an exhale before rising to focus on his other cuts.
He wanted so badly to hold your head there, take off his gloves and run his fingers through your hair. You moved on from that moment much too quickly for his liking.
You sighed taking in the state of his shirt, “May I?”
“Have at it,” he replied with a smile still plastered to his face. This was one the rare moments he was thankful for his helmet.
You took the scissors for the guaze and cut his shirt from hem to neckline so you could open it up. He feared you would be able to see how fast his heart was beating from that close. You peeled it towards his shoulders and let it hang off his body so you could fully see the damage. You dabbed some bacta on the smaller cuts, tracing a finger over a nasty purple bruise that must have set in on his walk home. Maker, it’s like you were trying to kill him while patching him up.
You drew your attention to the last remaining gash. “I should be able to cauterize this one. It’ll be a nice scar to add to your collection.”
He huffed out a laugh and you smiled reaching for the cauterizer. “It shouldn’t hurt too much with the bacta setting in, but let me know if you need a break.”
“Go ahead, cyar’ika,” he said smoothly. You flashed your eyes to him at the nickname and flicked on the small tool. His hand found your shoulder and squeezed it at the initial touch. “Sorry,” he grunted out.”
“It’s okay Din, I know it hurts,” you said working as fast as you could. “There,” you said switching it back off and running a clean rag over the newly closed wound, “All done.”
“Shower, I’ll set some clean clothes out for you, then I want you to rest,” you said picking up scraps of bloodied fabric and gauze.
“Yes ma’am,” he said almost reverently. As much as he hated feeling weak, he loved being cared for. You tended to be fairly laid back, this commanding side of you only came out when shit hit the proverbial fan. “I like it when you’re bossy.”
You wound up what was left of his pants and whipped them at him, “Hurry up before I send you to your room,” you joked, heading to wash your hands and put the med kit back up.
Din showered quickly, scrubbing off days of blood and grime under the warm stream of water. The bacta was in full effect making his eyes and body feel heavy. He quickly dried and struggled to pull on the clean pants and shirt you had laid out for him. He tried to shake as much water from his hair as he could before putting his helmet back on and opening the ‘fresher door. He looked down to see you curled up in the same blanket as earlier, resting against the wall by the door.
You startled awake again hearing the door slide shut. He cocked his helmet to the side as if to ask what you were doing there. “I wanted to be here in case you fell or something,” you mumbled sleepily, hand over your mouth as a yawn came out.
“You look like you haven’t slept in days,” he remarked.
“I haven’t. It’s hard to sleep when you’re gone.”
His heart ached at your confession.
“I don’t sleep well when I’m away either,” he said softly, sinking on the ground next to you. “I like knowing you’re near. But it gives me a reason to come home.”
“You have to be alive to make it home,” you smiled, leaning your head against his shoulder. The warmth of the blanket and the smell of his soap lulling you to sleep once again. “Foolish man,” you murmured.
He chuckled and offered you a hand, “Come to bed, cyar’ika.”
“No no, you take the bed tonight,” you protested.
“I am,” he said slowly, “And you can too, if you’d like.”
You were too tired to think of the implications, what it would mean in the morning, you were just glad to have him home. He offered his hand again and you helped each other up shuffling into the small sleeping nook. He tried to stop himself from thinking about the way you folded into him, like the curve of his body had been hewn out just for you. All the rough and jagged pieces of him smoothed down to make space for your softness. He fought it for as long as he could, trying to memorize the pattern of your breaths, the small noise you made as you were getting comfortable, but the bacta mixed with the weight of his journey soon caused his eyes to drift shut. For the first time in many years, he slept soundly, and so did you.

Hey! Can I get a Din x reader where a droid goes rogue and attacks and hurts the reader and obviously as we all know Din HATES droids and this just triple enforces that? ANGST. Droids are genuinely so terrifying and I feel this would be a good plot.

“Din,” you caught up to him and reached for his hand, giving it an excited little squeeze, “I’ve found something exciting!”
“Slow down, cyar’ika,” you could hear the amusement in his voice as he kept you upright as you almost tripped over your own feet, “don’t need you hurting yourself.”
“Sorry,” you grinned at him, cheeks warming up as you slowed down and fell into step with him and Grogu, “I got excited - obviously.”
“Don’t be sorry,” he squeezed your hand in return as Grogu babbled happily, “just be careful - now tell me what’s so exciting?”
“I was just talking a walk around and I came across this little store,” you waved your around as you often had a tendency to do, much to your husband’s amusement, “kind of an out of the way place - don’t worry it wasn’t that bad - and they sell droids there! All kinds of different-”
“Droids,” he echoed as you offered him a sheepish smile. He’d had a long and complicated relationship with droids and you were pretty sure he was on a downward trend with them at the moment. You stepped in front of him and started walking backwards so you could grab both of his hands and look at him with a saccharine smile, “you are….what is so exciting about these things?”
“They’re all rescued and reprogrammed,” you insisted but you knew there was still a frown under the helmet, “so they’re clean slates. And they have protocol droids and gonk droids and R2 units!”
“Mhmm…go on,” he insisted softly, wondering where this was going, “tell me more.”
“I just…I’ve always loved the old R2 units,” you prefaced, waiting for his little telltale sigh, “and I think it could be helpful to have one around…you know for when we’re busy with stuff. Or I could have some company if you’re gone and I can’t come.”
“Busy,” he echoed as you nodded, hoping you were doing enough to sell him on the idea, “I don’t know…there’s no real need is there?”
“Oh Din, we could use it for lots of things!” your eyes grew wide with excitement and your smile was beaming, “and it could be fun. Plus, it’d be a rescue little droid….you do have a tendency for liking rescues after all.”
You and Grogu exchanged a look before you turned back to him. He’d found and helped nurse you back to health and ended up taking you under his wing, just as he had Grogu. Din knew you had a point and looked between the two of you, hands on his hips and finally letting out his little sigh, “okay-”
“Yay!”
“Okay, we can take a look and then go from there,” he finished and you practically jumped into his arms in excitement. You wrapped your arms around him in a tight hug as best as you could with all of his armor on, “alright, alright - don’t get too excited. No promises are being made here.”
“I know,” you promised, but deep down you knew that Din hardly ever said no to you. You pressed your forehead against the cool beskar of his helmet, “I love you.”
“I know cyar’ika,” he touched your cheek, “I love you too.”
Grogu babbled happily at both of you.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“Look at him,” your hands were clenched at your sides in excitement as you tried to appear as calm as possible. You were pretty sure (dramatic as Din would insist) that you were about to combust from the cuteness, “isn’t he the cutest thing in the world?!”
Grogu tugged on the leg of your pants and gurgled at you with a concerned little look on his face. You reached down and scooped him into your arms, placing a gentle kiss on his head. He relaxed into your touch as you grinned at him. Din, meanwhile, was much less impressed, looking down at the R2 unit in front of him with disdain.
He was an older unit, a remnant from the era of the Clone Wars, but was reset and given a second chance at life. He was more on the square side, but a pretty silver and dark pink color. In your eyes he was perfect - to Din he was a menace.
“Are you sure?” he turned towards and when he saw the big smile on your face, he already knew that this droid was the newest member of your family. You looked at him and nodded shyly, “you’re sure.”
“Please Din?” you were absolutely willing to use Grogu as a manipulation tool if needed, “I won’t ever ask for anything again. He’ll be so useful to help around the house and everything!”
“I don’t know about that,” you could detect the disdain in his voice, but you appreciated the fact that he was willing to make this sacrifice and be more open-minded, “but if it’ll make you happy, it’s worth it.”
“You won’t regret this,” you kissed the spot where his cheek would be, the smile on your face switched from ear to ear, “I promise.”
“Hmmm,” he mused softly, tracing his fingers along your jaw, “let’s get him home then and we can see what he can do."
"Thank you," your eyes grew soft as you looked up at him, "for always being so wonderful. You truly are the best."
"Nothing to thank me for," he promised, his own features growing soft under the helmet. If it hadn't been for the armor, he might have melted into a puddle. You were his weakness and he'd do whatever you asked of him, he'd do whatever you wanted in order to put a smile on your face. You and Grogu were the beat of his heart and the blood that rushed through his veins - essential. There was no life or reality which he could imagine that the two of you weren't in.
"I know," you whispered, "but still - thank you. I love you so terribly much."
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Your new droid friend, named R-4Z and affectionately nicknamed Arezy, fit right into the home you'd built along with Din and Grogu. He helped around with chores both outside and inside and often liked to play with Grogu. More than anything he was good company when you were left alone.
Left alone was a dramatic way of putting it - there were times when you couldn't accompany Din and Grogu due to either working at your little apothecary or Din asking to remain behind. It used to make your skin prickle with hurt and annoyance but you knew that it was only because he wanted you safe. Nowadays it was more endearing than anything else. Unlike your boys, you didn't possess any tactical training and weren't force sensitive. But you were the brains of the operation as Din so sweetly put it.
This particular weekend found you and Arezy by yourselves. You'd decided to give your little shop a revamp since you had the time and the season was changing. You were puttering around, giving your companion directions for a few things as you did the other tasks.
You were enjoying your conversation with your friend but after a bit you noticed that you were basically speaking to yourself.
"Arezy?" you asked softly as you walked out of the small back room and towards the front. Nothing seemed amiss at first but then you heard some angry beeping, "what's wrong, buddy?"
The answer you were treated came into the form of a sharp shock in your side, the jab making you yelp in surprise and pain. You turned around to find the droid behind you, its arm out and pointed towards you. He started coming closer and beeping angrily - it was completely different from anything you’d seen before.
“What are you doing?” you grew worried as you ducked out of his way, trying to put some distance between the two of you, “what’s wrong?”
Apparently he didn’t want to talk because he kept trying to come after you. If you weren’t worried about actually getting hurt, you might have laughed; it was probably hilarious to watch this droid rolling after you. But he wasn’t one to be underestimated either, he could deal damage if he wanted to.
Which you found out the hard way when he set out some tripwire and you…managed to trip right over it. You landed on the hard concrete with a loud oof, and untangled the wire from between your legs, trying to ignore the fact that you’d managed to scrape your knee and it was now bleeding.
Your hands were shaking but you finally managed to break free, but not before he managed to come up and give you a few more shocks. They didn’t seem like much, but they did hit deep and shook you up.
Luckily it didn’t last very long - Arezy shut down as quickly as he had turned on.
“Kriff,” you scrambled to your feet, stepping back just in case. You looked up and found Din standing there with Grogu at his side; you didn’t need to see his face to know there was a giant scowl on it.
“What happened?” he came over and took your face in his hands, looking to make sure there wasn’t too much damage. Your lip trembled with effort not to cry; you weren’t terribly hurt but you were more shaken up than anything else. You just hadn’t seen this coming. You heard him make a small sound in the back of his throat as you he took in your knee and the bruising that was already welling up on your arms, “cyar’ika…”
"I'm okay," you let out a shaky breath as you blinked back your tears, "I-I don't know what happened. He was just fine and then all of a sudden he just started attacking me. I didn't do anything and nothing happened."
He gently took your chin in his hand and turned your face up to his. Despite your best efforts, a few tears slipped down your cheeks and Din didn't hesitate to tenderly wipe them away, "droids."
"It's not," you didn't want this to further taint his view of droids, "it just happened. It was just an accident. These things just happen sometimes."
"The bad things always come from droids," he huffed as you sadly looked at Arezy, “what if…I hadn’t gotten here in time?”
“But you did,” you whispered softly, “that’s all that matters, Din. It was just…a malfunction. It’s an old droid, and I’m sure he can be repaired-”
“No.”
“Din-”
“I said no,” he said sharply, causing you to recoil slightly. He’d almost never snapped at you or spoken to you in any sort of harsh manner. Grogu had siddled up to you and hugged your leg, trying to convey the love he carried, “we’re going home.”
“Okay,” you weren’t about to argue with him when he was worried out of his mind. You knew your Mandalorian better than that. You knew that he’d come around - his heart was way bigger than he’d ever let or believed it was.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Din had been mostly silent on the way home. WHen you stepped inside, there was a bit of tension in the air. You wished it wasn’t there, but you knew that it wouldn’t last. Things might have been bad in the moment but they wouldn’t last; the good always far outweighed the bad. You weren’t going to push him - you wanted him to come to his own conclusions.
“C’mon,” he picked you up without hesitation, causing you to make a small sound of surprise as he walked you into the fresher. You felt like you were weightless in his strong embrace.
He set you down and moved to slowly pull off your pants, after looking for permission. You sat on the edge of the tub and watched as he pulled off his helmet in order to properly study your knee. It wasn’t the worst, but it certainly looked bad.
He pulled out the first-aid kit from under the bathroom sink, and took out what he needed. You watched as he moved with care to patch up the wound, making sure it was all clean and disinfected before bandaging it up. He trailed his fingers along your arms, taking in each mark. You could see the worry and upset in those pretty brown eyes.
“Din,” you whispered his name, capturing back his attention as you put your hand on his face, brushing your thumb over his cheek, “look at me please.”
After a moment of hesitation his eyes met yours and you offered him a small smile. He swallowed thickly, “I don’t want anything to happen to you. Ever.”
“I know,” you could feel him gently leaning into your cheek, “I know you don’t, my love. I don’t ever want anything to happen to you either. I’ll keep you safe, just like you always keep me safe.”
“I couldn’t today-”
“What happened today was a fluke,” you insisted softly, “it could have happened to anyone. If it hadn’t happened to me, it would have happened to whoever else got him. That’s just it, that’s life. But the thing is, Din, you did rescue me.”
“You’re so forgiving,” he took your hand in his and pressed a kiss to your knuckles, “you always see the bright side.”
“I think it’s not too bad of a way to live,” you laughed softly, and Din couldn’t help but smile. He swore the sound of your voice was the best thing in the world, “it’s how I got you to let me, isn’t it? Look where we are now.”
He chuckled softly, shaking his head fondly at you, “I guess you’re not wrong, cyar’ika.”
“I’m not,” you insisted, “will you promise me something?”
“Anything.”
“Don’t let this one moment, this one thing ruin your perception of all droids,” you insisted and you could hear his little huff, “please? I promise this won’t ever happen again.”
“I’ll try,” he promised and you could feel that he was being honest with you, “for you, I’ll try.”
“You’re a good man, Din Djarin,” you leaned in and kissed him softly, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Almost a month had passed since the incident and neither of you had brought it up again. You figured it was better to let things happen as they did.
But then Din managed to surprise you once again.
“Din?” you made it back from the market with Grogu at your feet, both of you carrying some food. He hadn’t come with you, insisting that he had a few things to do at home. You let yourself in and the two of you made it to the kitchen. But something was different, something was off.
You heard a few small beeps that caused you to turn on your heel to find the source of the noise. In the opposite doorway you found Din along with-”
“Arezy!” you almost dropped the goods in your arms, but Grogu was faster and kept everything from falling. You ran over to the droid and dropped your knees in order to give him a hug. He beeped merrily at you, “you’re back! Oh, I’ve missed you. I hope you’re feeling all better.”
“He is,” Din smiled softly, “I took him to Anzellans and they were able to fix him right up. There was some sort of issue with the motherboard, but it’s been fixed.”
“You did this,” you took up and hugged him. He chuckled softly before wrapping his arms tightly around, “you sweet, wonderful man. I can’t believe it…how? Why?”
“Accidents happen,” he echoed your words from earlier, “but that doesn’t mean they have to cloud our opinions of everything else. I listen sometimes, cyar’ika. I figured that if you decided that you can forgive him and move past what happened, I can do the same.”
“You’re a wise man,” you kissed his cheek, “listening to your riduur. Thank you for this. You’re…the best.”
“That is you,” he promised and Grogu cooed happily from where he was climbing onto Arezy, “I’m glad you’re happy, cyar’ika.”
“I am,” you grinned, “and I am very much in love with you too. You are everything, Din.”
“You,” he grinned as he took your face and pressed kisses all over it, “are everything. I love you.”
“I love you, Din Djarin.”

Defeat
Tumblr media
Defeat - E 18+ - Din Djarin/F!Reader - 900 words Warnings: fluff with a side of smut. The post-Season 3 drabble nobody asked for.
Din Djarin's brooding again.
You are fairly certain he does it unconsciously, like breathing, protecting Grogu, or beating the living shit out of people. Usually, there's a correlation between those. But then there are the quiet moments, the softer moments in between the more visceral ones.
It's like he doesn't know what to do with himself now except exude an aura of I-really-wish-I-was-killing-someone-right-now.
He's sitting on the porch, feet up, watching Grogu levitate some frogs.
"Retirement doesn't suit you, Djarin," you tell him, not for the first time.
The helmet turns, and Mando--Djarin--lowers his feet as if he's ashamed, as if he's been caught doing something he shouldn't, like relaxing. To a Mandalorian, that's tantamount to heresy.
He still keeps his helmet on when he's outside.
You approach slowly, as if he's a wild animal, stopping short of extending your hand for him to sniff. The impassive helmet just stares. So you insinuate yourself onto his lap, and the vocoder digitizes a soft noise as you settle with your back against his chest.
"What are you ruminating about this time?" You watch Grogu juggle a family of amphibians, giggling.
"Nothing," Din Djarin says, a fuzzy rumble against your back. He moves your hair away from your neck, and you shiver at the brush of his gloved fingers. His thumb finds a knot in your trapezius and presses in firmly.
"Liar," you reply, but without any real venom. He's working the knot out with slow circles, and it feels quite nice, actually.
"I think I know the problem," you say, trying not to groan. He makes a noise which means go on, lifting the hairs on the back of your neck. "You're bored. There's not enough adrenaline in your system when nobody's been trying to kill you for a while."
Djarin is silent, which means you're right, but I don't like it.
"Think Grogu can keep himself occupied for a while?" you add, with the dark heat of the forge in your voice and your fingers drifting back along the outside of his thigh.
He stands, and you slip off his lap. "Perimeter's active," he says. "He won't wander too far."
There was a time when he wouldn't let Grogu out of his sight. A robust security system--the one you installed--helped. You're impossibly glad you did as you let Din Djarin grab your hand and lead you back inside the house.
He turns off the lights. Clothes hit the floor like bodies amid the thunk of weaponry and armour. Calloused skin meets yours, and you fight to kiss him, but he dodges away and applies his mouth, impossibly warm, to your neck and lower.
You don't make it easy for him. He handles you delicately--for him--but each touch weakens his defense. The sweep of your fingers over his chest, his stomach, disarms him. He wrestles to pin you to the wall, but he knows he's defeated. The battle was lost the moment he took your hand.
The bed is soft, and Din Djarin is hard above you, inside you. The stretch and burn of him is enough to unmake you. But he is trembling, his mouth open against the hollow of your collarbone, panting as if he's been running for his life. You wrap your legs around his waist and draw him in closer. His scalp is damp beneath your fingertips.
But Mando has always been pinpoint-accurate with both his aim and his timing. He rears back enough to reach between your bodies, and his trigger finger settles on your clitoris. He knows when to strike a last-minute killing blow, and this is it. You curse and cry his name, and you can just about see, in the dim half-light from under the door, the curve of a triumphant grin on his face, and that's what it does you in.
The blinding rise of your orgasm crests, burning through your nerves from his fingers and his cock. You clench around him and try to cover your own mouth with your hand, but he drags it away, pins it to the bed and leans forward to growl in your ear, "I want to hear you."
You writhe and sob, but the Mandalorian is relentless, driving into you with the force of a man possessed, to whom surviving the next thirty seconds is the only option he has left. It's not until you're limp and spent beneath him that he stops moving, that he withdraws his hand and lets you go so you can breathe again.
He keeps his weight off you, his arms bracketing your head, hips pressed to yours, savouring the twitch and shudder of you around him.
"You win," you croak as soon as your ability to speak returns.
"Just because you've surrendered doesn't mean I'm done with you yet," he says, and shifts a little atop you. Oversensitive, you gasp at the hard, wet slide of him; nearly frictionless, he's so deep inside you that you ache.
"I can't," you gasp.
But you can. And you do. And so does he.
Afterwards, he tells you it's a draw.
When you head back outside, limping a little--and there's a definite swagger to Djarin when he notices that--Grogu is more or less where you left him, sitting by the pond. His bat-wing ears twitch, and he babbles happily as the Mandalorian picks him up.
"Hey," you say, frowning as you notice something. "All the frogs are gone."
Grogu burps.
Din Djarin sighs. "Guess he won, too."

[a/n: i know it's not much. it's short and simple and kind of jumps all over the place, but this was such a cute ask to imagine (plus i feel like an idiot for not thinking of doing this myself sorry work has been a nightmare), but happy halloween, y'all!]
HALLOWEEN SPECIAL:
A CLAN OF FROGS
Tumblr media
The tulle framing your hips caught on the kitchen drawer once more and you huffed in annoyance before carefully untangling the material. The moss green dress you wore was hardly a costume on it’s own, but the headband on top of your head with two large frog eyes seemed to make it more fitting for halloween.
“Hop, hop, hop.” You turned at the sound of Grogu’s voice as he entered your view. Just as he announced, the little boy was hopping down the hall toward the kitchen. He wore a light green, hoodie style onesie. Darker spots lined his arms and legs with a yellow belly where it zipped up. The hood was pulled over his head, two frog eyes sewn to the top to stand, and you had cut holes in the side so his ears could poke through comfortably. A tuft of his white hair stuck out from under the hood, curling up around the edge messily. “Hop, hop, hop.” Grogu bounded over until he stood in front of your foot. He held his light blue, stuffed frog to his chest and beamed up at you in excitement. “Ma! We’re frogs!”
“We are.” You chuckled. “C’mere, cutie.”
Grogu jumped up, full of trust and faith, and you caught him with a laugh. He continued to bounce in your arms. The boy hadn’t stopped moving since you picked him up from school earlier with the promise of trick or treating once his father got home.
“Are you excited, baby?” You hummed.
“Candy!” Grogu replied.
Nevarro was celebrating Halloween with a festival. All of the market had been decorated for the season. Stalls and booths were now passing out candy and baked goods for any and all trick-or-treaters. On your way home, you had seen them setting up, but you were excited to see the final result.
The sound of the door opening, Din’s voice greeting you both, and Grogu wiggled out of your grip to sprint toward the door, “Buir! Buir! I’m frog!”
“I can see that, ad’ika.” Din’s chuckle rolled through the air and you came around the kitchen counter to greet him. His visor landed on you and though the helmet covered it, you could feel his smile. As if the beskar couldn’t stop that warmth from radiating out. Din had scooped up Grogu, who was using his father’s shoulders as a jungle gym, and drifted closer. “I like this look on you, ner karta. You make a very cute frog.”
You smirked and reached back for the counter where the frog hat rested, “Guess what, honey.” You held up the frog themed bucket hat. Din tilted his head at the sight of it. “You’re gonna make a really cute frog too.”
“Buir, be frog like me and Ma!” Grogu tried to bounce on Din’s shoulder, and the Mandalorian lifted a gloved hand to stabilize the boy easily.
“Alright.” Din rumbled and bowed his head down. You situated the bucket hat over the top of his helmet, it was a snug fit, and when he stood back to his full height you snickered at the sight of him while Grogu chirped his happiness. You cupped your cheeks with a teasing grin, “Oh, my two handsome boys.”
“No, Ma.” Grogu shook his head. “Not boys. Frogs.”
“Of course. I’m sorry.” You replied.
Din nodded, “Yeah, Ma, get it right.”
Grogu eagerly begged for the three of you to go. You grabbed the clean pillowcase you laid out to carry Grogu’s spoils, and on the way out Din automatically slid his hand into yours⏤ tangling his leather clad fingers with yours.
Tumblr media
“Ad’ika! Don’t swallow that whole⏤ chew it.” Din scolded through the throngs of people and Grogu spared his father a quick glance before swallowing the brownie handed to him whole. You chuckled from beside Din who shot you a look you knew to be withered. Though taking the Mandalorian seriously in his hat was difficult.
“Grogu is making out like a thief.” You commented. Din’s arm lazily rested around your shoulders. The two of you were trailing behind Grogu who was dragging his half full pillowcase of goodies to stall after stall. He had technically already seen everyone once, but the second time around it seemed everyone found him too cute to deny giving him more.
Din shook his head. “They’re spoiling him.”
“Yeah, okay.” You snorted. “You’re one to talk.”
“I don’t spoil him.”
“Mhmm.”
Din lifted the hand hanging around your shoulder to lightly grasp and tug down on your ear making you laugh. It was a known fact that Grogu had Din wrapped around his little, green finger. Din could be in denial all he wanted. You held the boy’s stuffed frog to your chest. Grogu had trusted you with the task of carrying the comfort toy while he held his pillowcase himself.
“You know,” You bumped your hip against his lightly, “We make a cute little family of frogs.”
Din hummed in agreement and you felt him pull you closer into his side, “Not just when we’re frogs.” The words came out mumbled under his modulator, but you caught them all the same and glanced away from Grogu pleading for more snacks to stare up at the bucket hat wearing warrior. There was something that made your heart just ache in joy anytime Din referred to the three of you as a family. He must have felt the gaze as he turned to look your way. Din cleared his throat and shook his head. “You know, I just mean…”
“I know.” You nodded and turned back to stare at Grogu who was scarfing down another brownie. “I think so too.”
Din didn’t respond, but you felt him squeeze your shoulder.
Tumblr media
“Not sleepy.” Grogu mumbled in your arms as you cradled, finally home once more. He had wiped himself out running around gathering treats and playing with the other kids. His sugar high nearly had him vibrating at the time, and now he was only barely clinging to consciousness. Grogu had his own frog back in his arms as Din dumped out the goodies from the boy’s pillowcase. You stood in the living room just gazing down at the adorable boy fighting sleep in your arms. You chuckled and Grogu scrunched his nose with a pout. “Not funny. Not sleepy.”
“I think you are sleepy, little frog.” You whispered and lifted a finger to drag down the length of his nose. His brow grew more heavy as you repeated the motion and when he realized what you were doing he whined and squirmed.
“Wanna play more.” Grogu’s words mumbled and muffled together, laden with sleep.
“Time for bed, ad’ika.” Din replied. His voice was unmodulated and when he stepped up behind you, Din pressed his head to the side of yours while wrapping his arms around you and Grogu both. The curiosity around Din’s features always existed in the back of your mind, but you had no qualms with keeping your eyes locked on the little green bundle in your arms. Grogu whined at Din’s words, but he also nestled deeper into your arms and against your chest. You went back to tracing over his brow and nose lightly with the tip of your finger and playing with the tuft of white hair still sticking out from under his hood. Eventually, Grogu slipped into sleep, losing the battle, and his soft snores filled the air. You still didn’t move. Din buried his face against the crook of your neck, peppering kisses along the skin there, before murmuring, “Do you want me to take him and put him to bed?”
“No.” You replied. “I don’t wanna put him down yet.”
A part of you was sure you could stand in this one spot for the rest of your life. Grogu cuddled to your chest, safe and warm, as Din’s strong arms wrapped around you both. Din chuckled, you felt the rumbling sound, and when he spoke he did so with his lips brushing against your skin, “Now, who’s spoiling him?”
You let out a soft sigh of content and let your weight lean back on your heels to rest against Din. The Mandalorian just rested his head on your shoulder and the three of you savored the moment of quiet and peace.

Significant verse idea.
Din takes his riddur to Sorgan, kind of like a vacation just to relax for a little.
And Omera can tell how fond and happy Din is compared to when he first was there.
And maybe Din sees her playing and teaching the kids and he gets a warm fuzzy feeling he doesn’t quite understand but like he’s never wanted children more then he wants them with his Riddur.
Din and riduur relax on Sorgan. Din Djarin x gn!reader
a/n: more tooth rotting fluff for you. this is apart of the significant-verse! it can be read on its own.
Tumblr media
"They owe me a favor," Din explains as you descend into Sorgan's atmosphere.
You raise a brow at him from the co-pilot's seat, and then glance down at Grogu who sits in his lap. The child just babbles up at you.
"What exactly did you do for them?"
"Cara Dune and I helped them drive off raiders and take out an AT-ST."
You glance back out the window as you emerge from a cloud bank. The planet is covered in green. "An AT-ST? Really?"
"It was a surprise to us, too."
"And we're going here to rest, riduur?" You tease. "It doesn't sound very peaceful."
Din chuckles under his breath, "Yes. It's peaceful now. The people are kind and welcoming. The children will be glad to see Grogu again."
"Finally someone to play with, eh?" You direct to the baby who coos back at you. You reach across to him and offer him your finger to hold onto, which he readily grabs.
Din nods, navigating to land the Crest. "Yes. Mischievous babysitters," he says.
When the ship is on the ground, Din holds out a hand to you. You stand and let him tug you close, lifting the lip of the helm to give you a quick kiss. "I really do think you'll like it here," he says, the helmet secure again over his face. "We only have to stay a couple of days."
"Mm," you glance out the window. "I prefer greener worlds so I probably will."
"Mandalore was green once," he says.
You smile at him, "Then I would have liked Mandalore."
The head tilts down once in a nod.
The walk to the small village is a quick one, the world verdant with green undergrowth. The air is clean and sweet, the scent of stagnant water and earth lingers, too.
Children greet you at the edge of the tree line, many of whom are excited to see the Mandalorian again and delight in getting to know Grogu's name. He's carried off with them almost immediately.
"Where-,"
"He's safe here," Din says, fitting his opposite hand over yours where it rests on his arm. "Don't worry, riduur."
You aren't really worried, just a bit overwhelmed. You haven't been around children in a long time. You and Din aren't usually around mass amounts of people anymore. "There are so many of them," you note, watching them scatter like leaves in front of you.
Their laughs are loud, infectious. You can hear Grogu's laughter among them.
"Yes," he agrees, his other hand gently pressed to the small of your back, guiding you forward. "There are."
When you near the center of the village, you're approached by a group of villagers who all welcome the Mandalorian warmly. Din merely nods at their greetings.
"What brings you back to Sorgan?" One of them asks. "You were hiding the last time you were here."
Din sighs, the sound so quiet only you can hear it, the noise of a gentle frustration. "We're in need of rest. That's all. We can pay you for our stay. We have credits."
"Nonsense."
"This is the least we can do, for your help."
Din raises his voice above the chatter, "We insist-,"
"Absolutely not-,"
You notice several pairs of eyes locked onto you as they argue, flitting between you and the Mandalorian. You squeeze Din's bicep and nudge a knee against the back of his leg.
He seems to remember they don't know you and introduces you by name before saying, "My riduur, my partner. We were recently married."
The shocked gasps that follow make you laugh. "You're here on a honeymoon!" Someone says.
One of the children who pass by asks loudly, "Mandalorians can get married?"
Din just sighs again.
~
You seem to like the little village as much as Din hoped you would. The first day you spend exploring the forests around the village with Grogu and the other children.
He accompanies you, several paces behind the little gaggle of you, just to make sure you're safe. The memory of the last time he was there lingers, though the farmers assure them they haven't been attacked since.
You have to mediate with them, insisting that everyone can take a turn holding either of your hands.
He likes watching you with them, and although he's brought you to Sorgan to relax, you seem content to help the villagers, keeping an eye on their children while they worked.
Grogu eventually comes back to Din, demanding to be held, because you simply didn't have enough hands to hold him and manage the other children.
It fills him with an odd warmth to see you with the children. It's the same affection he feels when he watches you with Grogu. It's a yearning kind of warmth, one he doesn't really understand.
Children are important to Mandalorians, but he's never considered children of his own. Not until Grogu, at least. He wonders if you would ever want more children, if the pair of you were given the chance.
He imagines it just for a moment, your clan of three somewhere peaceful and safe. Somewhere green.
You teach them some kind of game from your home world when you stop in a nearby field, asking the children to link hands and stand in a circle as you explain the rules.
Din leans against a tree and watches quietly, hands clasped in front of him, Grogu nestled in the crook of his arm. He hears Omera approaching before he sees her. She leans on the other side of the tree. "We're glad you've come back, even if its just to visit."
"We appreciate you hosting us," he says, watching the undulating rays of sun over the field, listens to the sound of giggles and shouts. "We can still pay, if you would accept it."
His offer goes unacknowledged. "How did you meet?" She asks.
Din hesitates before answering. "We met shortly after I left Sorgan." He tells Omera that you were working with Peli Motto as a mechanic, and of Calican, and how you'd protected the child in his absence. "And then we began traveling together." He tells her that you hated Tatooine. "Prefers greener worlds."
"They look happy." He nods and shifts Grogu in his arms. "You look happy."
He looks over at her then. "I came to check on all of you, but I also wanted to say congratulations."
"Thank you," he says, turning his eyes back to you, the dynamics of the game you're teaching the kids incomprehensible to him.
"I mean it," she says. "The last time you were here, you weren't. Happy or at peace. You were much more tense."
He turns to look at her again. "There was an AT-ST in these woods the last time I was here," he say dryly.
She rolls her eyes, "You know what I mean. It's nice to see you happy." She glances at the children, then at Grogu. "You're welcome here. Anytime, even without a favor owed." Omera straightens and tells him what time dinner would be served before taking her leave again.
When you head back to the village at the end of the day, the children herd in front of you and Grogu finally gets what he wants - all of your attention focused on him.
"I never knew you were so jealous, ad'ika," you say, kissing his forehead gently.
"You've never seen him around other children. He never has to compete with anyone for your attention."
You gape at him playfully and then look to your baby, "Like there could ever be a competition." Grogu coos when you nuzzle his cheek and Din finds himself smiling.
"You're good with them," he says. "The children."
You hum noncommittally. "I was around a lot of children on my home world."
Din nods, and tilts toward you when you hook your hand on his bicep. "I was always around children in the covert."
"Would you like more foundings? Children of your own?" You ask and don't look at him, your face distinctly turned forward.
He pulls you to a stop as the children break through the tree line and run toward the village. "That, with you, riduur, would be a great honor. To raise warriors with you."
"We are already raising a warrior," you remind him, but you're smiling widely.
"And I am already honored," he presses his forehead to yours. "You honor me."
The moment is a long one, peaceful and quiet. A breeze sways the branches of the trees above you. "And you honor me," you answer eventually, pulling away from him with a smile. "C'mon, our child is hungry."
~
Din spends the rest of his time on Sorgan thinking about that moment, the pride it inspires, how closely and tightly you're aligned with each other.
He thinks of it especially when you lie together, when the child is being watched by some of the villagers and he gets you all to himself. No armor, no helmet, nothing but the two of you. There is nothing between you in those moments, flesh and souls bared.
He thinks about how you like green worlds and the stars and traveling he galaxy, and how you're already raising a warrior.

Keldable Kisses
Pairing: Din Djarin x f!reader
Word count: 1.7k
Summary: Din forgets to give you a kiss in the morning and you take it personally and decide to get payback by wearing a hat with a visor preventing his much needed marketplace keldable kisses.
Warnings: the plot is literally just about keldable kisses, It's all fluff, His first name is Din, married couple, female reader, reader is a tease, mentioned protective Din, reader has hair but length is never mentioned, stupidly soft din, swear words, does star wars have hats? Baseball caps? They do now and they're the bane of Din's existence
A/N: Din's cloak gets a bigger supporting role then Grogu because like all great writers I forgot about him three paragraphs in.
Tumblr media
It's petty, you know so, but that doesn't stop you from pulling out an old dusty hat you found years ago on some backwater planet during a hunt with Din.
It's nothing special, no eye-catching design. It's black with a white visor to protect your eyes against the sun. Definitely not fashionable but it's practical, which leaves you with no good excuse as to why you're wearing it on a planet with no sunlight.
And you're definitely going to need an excuse when your husband sees you wearing it. You could opt for the truth; tell him that he forgot to give you a kiss this morning before putting on his armour and you're petty enough to deprive him of keldable kisses for the rest of the day.
Yeah, no, that wouldn't go well. He wouldn't let you leave the ship until every part of you has been kissed – twice over.
Okay, that doesn't sound like the worst punishment and if you didn't need supplies from the local marketplace, you'd let your husband manhandle you into next week.
The sound of the ramp hitting the ground echoed through the ship shortly followed by Din's voice, "Cyare, you ready? We're on a time limit, remember?"
"Of course, we wouldn't want to waste precious daylight." You tossed one of Din's old cloaks over your shoulders, clasping it together at the front and left the room.
"I know you're joking but in case you're not, I want to remind you that there's no sunlight here. Make sure you dress accordingly-," His helmet tilted up and you know he's staring at the hat, "What are you wearing?"
"Oh, this old thing?" You canted the visor down, fingers sliding along the rim, "It's just something I found. Why, you don't like it?"
He shook his head, bundling together everything needed for the short trip, "I never said that. If I recall correctly, I was the one who picked it out."
"You blindly grabbed whatever hat was closest to you because you found the seller creepy and wanted to leave."
"I knew I'd regret telling you that," Din sighed and placed Grogu in his pram, "And he was creepy. He kept flirting with you, his eyes barely left you."
"My knight in shining beskar armour." You teased him.
Din hummed in agreement. You know he secretly loves it when you refer to him as yours. He tilted his head down, bringing his helmet to meet your forehead in a keldable kiss, the first in what he assumed would be many throughout the day.
You bit your lip when your visor prevented him from doing so. He growled, displeased at not being able to rest his forehead against yours in a kiss. He stepped back and reached up and you're quick to grab Din's arm stopping him from taking off your hat.
Din shook his arm, trying to wiggle out of your grip, "What are you doing?"
Your hand tightened, eyes blinking up at him innocently, "What are you doing?"
"Trying to take off this stupid hat."
"Oh, it's stupid now? Maybe I'll go get a second opinion from the creepy guy."
"Just take it off, mesh'la." Din puffed out his chest. He's totally peacocking and it's unfairly attractive. He knows you wouldn't actually track down that creep, but the thought probably has his possessive side reeling.
"No, no I don't think I will," You ducked out from under his grasp, your fingers slipped into his and you pulled him towards the ramp, "Now come on, we're on a time limit, remember? Wouldn't want to waste precious daylight!"
Tumblr media
You had seen the lights from the Razor Crest, but being planetside, underneath the glow of orange lights you find yourself speechless.
You were originally a little worried about how well you'd be able to see in the darkness of sky. Having one of your senses dulled in this line of work made you feel on edge, anyone could be lurking in the shadows. Din had reassured you that he'll keep his helmet's night vision on until the three of you are back in the safety of the ship.
But that no longer felt necessary underneath the marketplaces string lights. When you told him such, he just shrugged and replied that it's better to be safe than sorry. He's never been one to risk the safety of you and the child, so you don't argue.
"You know, you'd be able to see the lights better if you took off your hat." Din said, his hand resting against the dip of your lower back as he guides you through the near empty market.
You rolled your eyes. You've been waiting for him to bring up the hat again. It's not hard to tell he's still upset over not being able to kiss you.
"I can see them just fine, thank you." You're lying. Din is one hundred percent right. Your neck is going to be sore tomorrow from tilting your head back to see the lights properly.
Din shook his head with a sigh but didn't say anything else. You took his hand and brought it up to your lips making what you assume is eye contact as you pressed slow kisses to his gloved fingers.
"Cyare." His fingers twitched and his other hand reached up to your head. You make a gross wet noise as you loudly gave his ring finger one last kiss before dodging his attempt at taking off your hat.
"C'mon, we need supplies."
The two of you walk through the marketplace grabbing the much needed supplies. You're hoping to get everything here and not have to make another stop.
Out of the corner of your eye you see two twi'lek engaged in what you could only describe as a passionate lip-lock. They're young, not that you could see their faces with each other's tongues shoved down their throats. You turn away, a blush on your face.
"Hey, you two osi’kovids," Din barked, startling them and you, "There are kids here-,"
"Okay," You quickly interjected, grabbing Din's arm and dragging him away. You call out over your shoulder to the couple as you go, "Sorry, he's not himself when he's hungry."
Din grunted at your words and you turned to face him, "Was that necessary? Grogu's the only child here and he's unfortunately seen worse. And calling them shitheads, seriously?"
He huffed, "Mandalorians' view public display of-,"
"-what are you talking about-," The corner of your lips turned up, "Oh my gosh, you're jealous! No, no don't argue, you totally are."
"I am not jealous, mesh'la. Mandalorians'-,"
"Is that right?" You grinned cutting him off again, hand daring to trail down his arm, fingers lingering a little too long where his armour doesn't cover his flight suit, "All these years of marketplace keldable kisses, you've been disrespecting the Way. I guess it's a good thing I'm wearing my hat."
You know keldable kissing in public is not breaking any Mandalorian laws. In fact it's encouraged to shower your riduur with the love and affection they deserve. Din is just being a big baby and taking his frustration out on innocent people.
You chuckled at his defeated silence and sauntered away adding an extra swing to your hips as you went. Behind you Din mumbled something to Grogu and the tone of the child's coo made it clear that he's taking your side.
Tumblr media
"Oh thank you! This is my riduur's favourite fruit."
Truth be told, you're enjoying the way his self restraint chipped away with every seller you spoke too.
The gentle squeeze of your hip following your words has you hiding a grin in the fabric of your cloak.
"Do you have this in a smaller size? My ad'ika would look so handsome in it!"
Behind you there's a sharp intake of air and you know if you were both in the confinement of the ship he'd be pressing his lips against the skin of your neck, telling you how amazing of a mother you are.
Surprisingly it only took those two comments for him to finally break.
"You-," Din forced out through clenched teeth. It's most definitely supposed to sound like a warning, but it comes out more desperate than anything else, "-need to stop."
He led you into a small alleyway and you stepped as close to him as possible without knocking your hat off, "Stop what?"
"Saying things that make me want to kiss you."
You licked your lips slowly, not missing the way your husband's hand flexed against the top of his thigh, and nonchalantly shrugged your shoulders, "Well, if you had kissed me this morning before getting ready-,"
"That's what this is about? Because I forgot, for the first time ever mind you, to kiss you?"
You nodded, "Yeah, pretty much."
Din reached his arms up and back, fingers closing around the fabric of his cloak and brought it up and over to cover the both of you.
"What are you doing?"
"Setting things right," He replied, nudging your foot with his own. Normally he'd wrap a hand around your back but since he's unable to, he'll settle for any form of contact he can get, "Take off that stupid hat, then take off my helmet."
"But babe we're in public, there are kids here and you know how Mandalorians view-"
Din growled, one hand shifting to hold the cloak up and the other carelessly knocked your hat off before gently cupping the back of your neck, gloved fingers curled underneath your ear to settle in the softness of your hair. His helmet met the warmth of your skin. You jumped a little bit at the sudden coldness against your forehead.
He chuckled and pulled you flush against his body. It made it harder to take his helmet off like this, but you managed. You reached up, fingers curling beneath the top of your husband's chest plate and pulled him down to you.
Din surged forward, not patient enough to wait for you to kiss him, his lips brushing against yours in the softest apologies, swallowing your groan of approval.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You’re not welcome among the Mandalorians. It replayed in your head over and over. You’re a princess, a rebel princess that fought in the rebellion. An asset for the remnants of the empire. A bounty for Din Djarin, until he changed his mind and decided to take you away with Grogu. You are sitting on a bench. Watching the valleys that formed Nevarro. Little Grogu is eating in your lap. Kids are training, and some are just playing or taking a rest. There’s a kid. He’s maybe two or three. He doesn’t wear armor or a helmet, of course. But your heart stops when he picks up a blade from some Mandalorians training near him. Grogu notices your anxiety and grabs your thin clothes tightly as you run to the kid. “Little one, don’t play with this, please,” you explain when you reach the boy. He smiles at you with his cute and innocent face, so you reply. But an armored couple comes and takes you away from the kid. “Don’t touch my son,” the woman states firmly. You sigh, handing the blade to them slowly. “He grabbed the blade. I feared he would do something with it” They stayed quiet. And the kid keeps smiling at you because he doesn’t understand what is happening. “Sorry…” “We’re Mandalorians. We know what we’re doing” Your blood boils as the man spits the words. You’re growing tired of how they treat you. You maintained Naboo from the war, and you and your people remained strong under threats of dictatorships. And yet, The Mandalorians didn’t recognize you as anything. Just a princess who spent the war brushing her hair. You were a little famous until you went missing when the empire remnants captured you out of nowhere. “What’s going on here?” The armorer walked impotently towards you and the little family. Consequently, many Mandalorians gathered in a little circle, leaving you in the middle. “Riyana, What’s going on?” “She interrupted our training,” the kid's mother pointed at you, but the little boy gently pulled her belt. “Mommy, she’s a friend.” “There’s nothing to blame her for….” When you turned around again, you encountered the tall figure of Din emerging from the circle. Bo-Katan was behind him and stayed there when the man joined your side. “The kid said she’s a friend.” “Keep your doxy away from our son, Din Djarin '' Suddenly, you felt little. And intimidated by all the visors looking at you. Only Din was reassuring you, keeping you away from trouble. “She’s a woman with a big title. A smidge of respect wouldn’t be bad….” Riyana was about to walk and probably threaten you or Din. But the armorer raised her hand, and everyone stood quiet. “Enough. Princess y/n might not be a Mandalorian, but she also deserves respect. In this covert, there’s no place for insolence… and we all shall remain respectful. This is the way.” “This is the way,” everyone replied as the little circle broke and everyone started to walk away. “You are not welcome among us….” Paz Vizla barely whispered as he tilted his head to you and then walked away. You sighed, noticing only Bo-Katan stayed in her place, keeping her distance. “Are you okay?” Din asked, and you nodded. He immediately noticed you still had the braids from the day before. Nevertheless, you looked beautiful in a welcome dress the kind rulers of Plazir-15 gifted you. Looking like the most divine princess, everyone bowing to you, treating you with kindness and devotion. “Yeah. I’m sorry about that….” He shakes his helmet, grabbing your forearm. “It’s okay, cyar’ika. It wasn’t your fault….” you nod. Feel safe until he brushes his fingers against your skin, and before you can connect to his touch through his glove, he leaves.
And the colors of Bo’s armor match Din’s, as they walk side by side. A dreadful feeling sets in your empty stomach as you see the couple.
-
You miss being a princess. You miss your home. Through the mirror, you only see a woman. “Tomorrow, I’m leaving early to talk with everyone” Abruptly, you turn. Facing Din, displeased. “Din…” He knows you're unhappy about him giving up the dark saber. “Are you sure you have to keep doing this? Is Kryze who’s leading this and-“ “It’s my duty, y/n. I’m redeemed. I’m Mandalorian again.” you nod, lowering your head to see your bare feet. “It’s just-I thought that. The saber ended up in your hands for a reason, then in the waters. But, after all you have done… the armorer-“ Din stopped you, gently as always. “The armorer is a wise Mandalorian, y/n.” “I know. I’ve heard her” You won’t admit your dislike towards some of his cultural traditions. “So we must listen to her. But after this is over, I have plans… for the three of us” Your face brightens as he includes you and Grogu. It makes you blush and want to squeal. “I’m working on the ri-“ “What?” You ask again because you didn’t hear well. But once you catch his words, you smile again. Was he going to say riduurok? Or maybe ring?. “Nothing. Just let’s concentrate on this, okay?. Bo is the leader, not me.” “Yes, but-. I believe you would have been a great leader, my strong Mandalorian” He’s smiling under his helmet. He wants to say you’re the most amazing woman he’s ever met. But Din Djarin is terrible at words, emotions, and relationships. “I’m just a man with armor, princess” He’s touching your forearm again. You like the way he said princess. It sounded romantic. And you shouldn’t think it was a sign of anything. But after what felt like years traveling with him, seeing him on the verge of death, and him seeing you in vulnerable moments. You would think he might feel the same spark you did. A beautiful connection where both of you were a team and role models for Grogu. “Not for me, Din,” you whisper with a smile. His fingers brush yours, and you swear you can feel a pinch of love in the air. You like to think he’s smiling under the helmet, just like you do. You wish you could see his face. You haven’t seen him, but you swear he’s the most beautiful man in the galaxy. A lot has happened, but at the same time, Din and you were in the slowest relationship development. Grogu sleeps beside you, and as his little body snuggles to get closer to you, there’s a big smile on your face. Maybe it was time; after retaking Mandalore, maybe Din asked for your hand in marriage. And it wouldn’t be a surprise since Mandalorians don’t start any kind of relationship unless it is a marriage.
The nicknames in his mando'a, the way he protected you, his lovely way of including you in his plans, always choosing you as the protector of Grogu. The connection with him was undeniable. You couldn’t lie. You loved him. And you would wait till he felt the same.
__
Is it possible that karma decided to teach you a lesson? Maybe. Feeling like a failure, you look at Din and Ms. Kryze talking so profoundly that there’s no exchange of smiles or flirting. But they look at each other… in some way. Then Grogu makes noises because the red-haired woman leans to smile at the little creature and returns to talk to Din. That’s how things were working now. But, of course, since you’re not a Mandalorian, you are useless. And although Din hadn’t said much to you, you knew he didn’t want to hurt you. But he knew you were worthless, barely knowing anything about the Mandalorian culture or history. But you remain like a princess, altruistic and polite. You woke up with a message, opened the comlink, and stood surprised, looking at the sender.
“Princess y/n. I know we haven’t seen each other in a while. Yesterday the New Republic sent me to Naboo for some mission. Your people miss you, your parents too. I had the luck to talk to them, and the rumors were true. Everyone says they haven't had another deserving monarch since the rule of Queen Amidala. Onward, princess. I hope you’re okay. I hope to see you soon. Wear that tiara again! Kindly, Elia Kane”
Elia. One of your childhood friends who you feared when she joined Gideon. She was in the recovery program, and you only saw her once after she started the rehabilitation. Her message accumulated some tears in your eyes. A strange feeling was growing inside you. I hate Mandalorians. No! You don't. You are in love with one of them, the child that considered you his mother was in training to become one too. You didn’t hate Mandalorians. But they treat you like scum. They offend and belittle you. Din hasn’t been around you lately, nor has Grogu. And when you find them, they are having a great time with Lady Kryze. But you would hear Elia, you would wear that tiara.
__
To be ashamed was far from the embarrassment Din was suffering. Finding you in his bed, with the blanket curled and tangled around your naked body, only covering your intimacy. Only for him to get on top of you and trace patterns on your soft skin. Hearing your moans and his own pleasure increase. He would feel so in love watching your perfect face in the room's dark. Kissing your soft lips and you being able to see his face. You would keep saying how beautiful he was, how lucky you were, as he confessed he loved you. He only woke up to find out it was a dream. He took a cold shower to wash away his carnal desires. And he accepted he couldn’t keep those images of you. When he met you, he thought you would be an immature royal who didn’t deserve to be saved. But he saw you were humble, and you were keeping Grogu safe when he found you. So he knew you knew what life was about.
Then he presented you to the armorer. And she knew about you. So the woman gave Din a little speech about Naboo and their strong monarchy. Revealing you were royal by blood and eligible to the throne by-elections. Also, your parents were rebellion leaders with the Organa family. Finally, you were almost captured by Darth Vader with Princess Leia of Alderaan. You were a quick learner when Din tried to teach you how to use his rifle. Likewise, you were also a fast learner when he trained to fly the razor crest.
Rarely you ended up being the damsel in danger. And Din never had any fight with you as you traveled with him. Most of the time, the people who recognized you assumed Din was your bodyguard. But people who didn’t would assume you were his wife. And you always played along, but he always remained quiet. He had to start giving hints of his interest in you if he planned to suggest marriage to you. But he was very ashamed to think about that since he had dirty dreams of you. So he tried to avoid you as much as he could. Even if he knew it was a bad idea. He preferred to concentrate on the upcoming mission.
After hearing one of the assemblies of the Mandalorians, you stayed back to wait for Din. Some time ago, you started cooking for him and Grogu. You didn’t want to think it was domestic, more like a payment for Din protecting and keeping you. “Hey. Ready?” You ask the man. He stops talking with Lady Kryze. Grogu coos at you, but he turns again to the red-haired, making you feel a little sad. “Yeah. Just, we were talking about you….” you shrug, surprised. “What about me?” you ask, confused, crossing your arms. Bo-Katan sighs gently, steeping a little forward. “We believe you’re going to be safe if you stay here?” this time, you sigh. Again, that angered feeling assaults you. “I’m more than capable of helping….” you defend yourself. “Cyar’ika. You’re out of shape, barely use your blaster, or have been active in combat. I don’t want to risk you,” Din admits, and although he means it in a cool way, you can’t help but feel ashamed. You don’t like being told you’re weak. “Respectfully, princess. Taking you to Mandalore would be… fruitless” You look at the woman straight. But you’re smarter. You won’t let them know how you really felt. “Right. I just hope that your plan turns out successful. It would be a shame if you lost the saber and planet… again.” she’s pissed, and you pushed her buttons. But Din intervened. “Y/n. Stop…” he said, like scolding you. You gasped, surprised to see him scolding you. “You won’t defend me?. No, of course not. I’m the useless princess.” He sighed. “Cyar’ika…” “I might not wear armor. Weapons aren’t my religion. But I’m not ashamed of wearing this crown….” At that moment, both looked at your mighty diadem. Both knew you were special, but Lady Kryze didn’t want to admit it, and Din Djarin was too afraid to lose you. Grogu sadly cooed at you as you left the room, leaving them in awkward silence.
__
Soon you regret it. You cry in a silent valley full of new blooms that Nevarro never had before. Din was trying to protect you. Finally, you had to accept that you weren’t a Mandalorian and never would be. You don’t say anything when Bo-Katan says you are coming to Mandalore too. You don’t even look at Din. And he could feel your coldness. His heart pounds as he watches you help some Mandalorians take boxes inside the ships. “You are going to hurt your back. Let me help you,” Din states as he takes the box from your hands. You only look at him. “I’m sorry.” “Me too.” You say, sighing. “I know you just want to protect me. Us…” you change the sentence quickly. But he knows what you mean. “I do. I need to keep you safe. But I know you are capable, cyar’ika” You nod at his words. “Groggy looks happy in IG-12,” you state with a smile, looking at the little kid inside the droid. “He does. You should have come with us to the market. He’s so stubborn….” “Like you…” you opt to say teasingly. He tilts his helmet. And you notice he does it evident when you assume he’s flirting too. “And just like you too, princess.” You know he must be smiling under the helmet. And for some seconds, both of you forget that it is Mandalore where you are. Traveling to inspect the area. “This is going to be over soon. It’s gonna be just the three of us again” You nod, resisting the urge to stand on your tip toes and kiss him. Even if it just was on the helmet. You believe him. —
The sky is dark. Yet, it looks beautiful, navy blue, baby blue, gray, it’s perfect.
You felt like Grogu was back to normal with you. He spent the whole sunset playing and eating with you. While you tried to ignore the look of lots of Mandalorians. Probably wondering why the princess of Naboo was traveling with them. “I miss home. But it’s okay because I’m with Din and you,” you tell the infant. He coos, slurping at some piece of fruit. “You would love Naboo. Although, of course, it’s not as beautiful as before the empire. But we still have tons of waterfalls and flowers blooming everywhere. Oh, and the festivals. I’ll take you, Grogu. You have my word,” he giggles, snuggling on your chest. I’d love that, y/n. You freeze. Looking directly at Grogu, you get scared for a few seconds. Because you just heard your voice in your head, it felt like Grogu sent a direct message to your head. “Did you say that, Grogu?” The child lets out a sound similar to a yup. Scaring you more. “I’ll be back in a while,” you tell him. Then, putting him in his crib, you stand to find Din. Dying to say to him what had just happened. Your cape gets stuck in some pair of stairs. Some Mandalorians notice your desperation. You go to the upper deck, hoping to see Din. You do. He’s there. But Bo-Katan is there too. You know it is disrespectful to overhear, but you can’t help it. "What means the most to me is honor and loyalty and character. For those reasons, I serve you, lady Kryze. Your song is not yet written, and I will serve you until it is." Jealousy invades you as you hear Din saying those words to her. And her reaction, if it wasn’t thankfulness, to you was like she fell for Din at that moment. Your eyes get teary. And casually, at that moment, the woman spots you. You can’t describe her look. But you don’t like anything about that moment. Din looks at you, walking away. Sighing, he leaves Bo-Katan to follow you. He follows your red cape through the empty hallway of the improvised ship. “…y/n,” he calls you. But you just want to walk away. Until you remember you are a princess. And princesses don’t walk away, they face the issue. “You know why I’ve followed you since the beginning?” He seized his steps, looking at you from some distance. It’s dramatic, but you are so done with all about him. “Because I love you. I love you and Grogu so much that I’ve avoided my duties and possibilities to be a queen. So instead, I’ve acquiesced to live in the wild because anything you gave me, I would gladly accept it. Because I love you.” “Hear me, princess y/n. Please…” He can’t articulate a movement, a word, or a feeling. “Save it.” “All the bad treatment from your people. The lack of respect and empathy is disappointing for a culture that claims to be so homely.” your mother always told you to not stay quiet. So you wouldn’t. “And it wasn’t enough to go through. Because I’ve patiently waited for you to feel the same as I do. But now I know there’s no turn for me.” “But I’m a princess. And I’ll keep my word and help with the retake of Mandalore. After that, I’ll go back to Naboo to take the throne” and before Din can say anything, you’re gone.
— He couldn’t find you that night. Even if the ship wasn’t big, you remain away. In the morning, Din was starting to get worried until he saw you talking with a female Mandalorian. And if it wasn’t because of the fight Paz Vizsla began to, he would’ve come to you. “You taught your apprentice well,” Lady Kryze said to Din, proud to see Grogu stopping the fight. “He did not learn that from me… it was from y/n,” he said, resented. Lady Kryze turned to see him. “I underestimated her. And I apologize for that. She’s more royal than me, and I haven’t been too warm towards her.” “We all tend to underestimate a princess. But y/n is…unpredictable,” he admitted. Bo-Katan could see something in you. It wasn’t just your royal blood. There was something else. Something she had seen before.
Din found it surprising that you didn’t need his help when the ship was destroyed, and everyone had to evacuate. You only feared for Grogu. He knew you were protecting the baby. Until the imperials attacked. And two of them took you. While shooting the Mandalorians, they took you, prisoner, escorting you away from the fight.
Din screamed your name and fought as hard as he could to stop the troopers from taking you. You only yelled as you saw Grogu in awe, and Din worried for you. “They took y/n!” Din yelled at Bo-Katan. The woman opened her eyes in surprise. Confirming her theories. “Something is not okay. They want something with her,” she managed to say. “We have to get going,” he accepted, knowing that following the imperials would lead them to you. But things weren’t in their favor. Din Djarin felt defeat when he ended up trapped by two imperials. And everyone behind the walls. With Gideon back, in Mandalorian armor. But his speech about Mandalore took a turn when he started talking about you. “And poor princess y/n of Naboo. So lost in the middle of all the remaining Mandalorians… bring her,” he stated. And two soldiers brought you. One of them kicked your back, pushing you onto your knees. You ended up facing Din and gasped in horror after seeing him in pain and trapped. “Thinking they would accept her, that Din Djarin would ask for her hand in marriage.” When you turned in shock to see the evil man, he shrugged. “I have eyes everywhere, princess” You only told one person about it. “I see it. You know who told me….” Anger increases as he reveals it. Gideon walks toward Din, directly speaking to him. “You thought we wanted her because she’s a princess? Naboo remains strong, but it’s not what it used to be.” Din is scared. He fears so bad for you. “Tell us, princess. How did Mandalorians treat you? Disrespecting your people, your title. Saying you’re weak, just a feather. One even has the audacity to take your improvised family away from you.” Lady Kryze knows Gideon refers to her. And she feels sorry for you. Because everything could have turned out differently. “Did they break your heart, princess? Or just one of them?” You want to kill him. “Take that blaster from Din Djarin, princess. I dare you” As he keeps going, you feel the humiliation. Everyone was hearing of your personal life. But the worst part is that everything Gideon said was true. “You can do it. Take that blaster from him. Din saw how you screamed in anger, and at the same time, he felt the pressure of his blaster being taken. Only to land in your hand.
Everyone gasped in surprise.
“Princess y/n can bear the force,” Gideon revealed. In shock, you dropped the blaster. You had sinned. You betrayed the Mandalorians. And seconds later, it was darkness. “NO!” Din screamed as he saw how the soldiers kicked your head with the back of their guns. You fell to the ground with blood on your face. “Take her to the laboratory,” the man demanded. Then he turned to kneel in front of Din. “A good Sith rises from pain and anger.” Din screamed, writhing in pain as he saw how the imperials took your unconscious body away from his eye.
“What do you mean you don’t know.”
Din was trying very, very hard to keep his temper.
“I mean, I don’t know, Mando,” Peli replied, hands defiantly planted on her hips. “What did you think I meant?”
“I thought I might have been mistaken,” he said. “Because I didn’t think you would let my son out of your sight long enough for him to wander off!”
“It doesn’t take that long….”
“He’s half a meter tall!” He snapped. “How fast could he be!”
“He’s quick!”
He paused and took a deep breath, trying to ignore the rising panic in his blood.
“You really have no idea where he might have gone,” Din said. “No one could have come in here and taken him.”
“No one’s been in here,” she said before she paused, frowning. “Well… there was one customer who was looking for someone to fix his speeder…”
“Do you know where he was going?” Din asked. He tried not to think about some stranger wandering off with Grogu in their arms, taking him away to trade to the Empire or who knows what.
“I think toward the marketplace,” she said. “He mentioned a farm outside of town, where the speeder was. He was going to tow it in…”
Din didn’t wait for her to continue. He set off, forcing himself to move slowly enough that he could scan the ground for any sign of Grogu. But there was no flash of green, no little clawed footprints in the sand - the area too heavily trafficked - not even a trail of things he shouldn’t be trying to get is small hands on left abandoned when something else that was bright or shiny caught his eye.
He kept running and searching, not apologizing for smacking into people or grabbing them roughly to see if what they held in their arms was, in fact, a bag and not his child. He was getting uncomfortably close to a panic - heart pounding, breaths short and shallow, head swimming - when he saw him, Grogu’s small, green body in unfamiliar arms, held close to a plush body.
“Grogu!” Din stalked over to you, all but ripping the child away from you as he looked him over. “Are you OK?”
“Hey!” You grabbed Grogu back and Din’s attention shifted from his son to you, his fists clenched. But instead of reaching to take back the kid or hit you, he froze. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting but it wasn’t… you. You were beautiful, almost shockingly so. There was something just so soft about you. Everything on Tatooine was rough and harsh, a lifetime of sand and twin suns and arid heat wore down people and buildings and ships quickly. But not you. You were like a flower that had somehow fought its way up through the sand, lush and bright and full.
“Do you know this man, little guy?” You considered Grogu carefully, a small frown on your face as you propped the boy on your hip, one of your fingers tightly grasped in his little hand. “Or is he a stranger?”
“Patu!” Grogu said, throwing his tiny arms out for Din, straining and reaching for him.
You laughed a little and looked at Din properly then, a smile on your face.
“Sorry about that,” you said, handing Grogu over. “He just toddled over to my stand a few minutes ago, I wasn’t sure where he came from and I couldn’t understand anything he was saying. I didn’t want someone just taking him…”
Grogu reached for Din’s helmet, cooing and babbling, gesturing to you before looking back to Din, his dark eyes wide.
“Thank you,” Din said eventually. “He can be a handful…”
“I can tell,” you laughed. “He ate a few things off my stand and he was only here a few minutes!”
“Oh,” DIn said quickly, fumbling for the pouch with his credits. “Let me…”
“Oh, no,” you said quickly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that you needed to pay! Really, it’s fine. I’m just happy I was able to help him get back to where he belongs.”
You just stood there, the smile on your face slipping a bit as Din stared at you. Like an idiot. He knew he was staring like an idiot and he couldn’t seem to bring himself to stop.
“Is… is everything OK?” You were frowning a little now. “I promise, I didn’t hurt him or…”
“Mando!” Peli ran up alongside him, panting a little before doubling over, planting her hands on her knees. “Stars, just a second… Some of us aren’t used to running like that…”
“Here,” you said, reaching behind your stand for a canteen and offering it to Peli. Din noticed what you were selling for the first time, fresh fruit piled high in baskets on display. “This might help, the suns are brutal today.”
“You’re tellin’ me,” she said, gulping the water down and standing up straight again before handing the canteen back to you. “Thanks for that. Looks like you’re the one who found our little friend here!”
“Oh, I didn’t know he was yours, Peli!” You said. “When did you get a youngling?”
“He’s not mine, but I keep tellin’ Mando he should just leave the kid with me…”
“And look what happened when I did,” Din cut her off. “Five minutes and you let him wander off…”
“It’s not like he got into trouble!” She waved him off. “He just found the sweetest stand in Mos Eisley because he’s so smart, yes he is! Just the smartest little guy! Appreciate you looking out for him, can’t let this cutie run off with just anyone.”
“It was no trouble,” you replied. “He was a nice way to mix up my day!”
“Patu!” Grogu said, reaching for you. You laughed and Din sighed before passing the child off to you.
“Have any plans later?” Peli asked. “The kid likes you, you should come by. Have to get time in with the little one when you can, Mando never sticks around for very long.”
“Well that’s too bad,” you said, bouncing Grogu on your hip but looking at Din. “Always nice to get pleasant folk here in town. But sure, I’ll come by once I close up. Maybe bring him some snacks for the road, would you like that little one?” Grogu cooed and clapped his little hands. You nuzzled his cheek. “I’ll see you later, buddy. Going to give you back to your daddy now.”
You passed the child to Din and gave him another smile before saying your quick goodbyes to Peli. Din kept looking Grogu over, like he was expecting to find something wrong with him, as he and Peli made their way back to her hanger. He had to resist the urge to look back at you.
“You’re sure she’s OK to be around the kid?” He asked, finally satisfied that his son was, in fact, safe and whole in his arms.
“Her?” Peli looked at him like he was insane. “Of course she is, you think I’d let someone around the kid who wasn’t safe? Besides, meant it when I said it’s the sweetest stand in Mos Eisley. It’s not just because of the fruit, if I didn’t know she was from here I’d say she was some naive off-worlder with how sweet she is. Probably how she wound up in the situation she’s in.”
Din frowned.
“What situation.”
“She’s stuck working for the Hutts,” Peli said. “When her father died a few years back - sweet guy, just like her. He built the greenhouses she grows all that fruit in - she didn’t have the money to pay for protection. Next thing she knew, they trashed one of her greenhouses and the moisture vaporator. She still hasn’t been able to fix it all, just about every credit she makes goes to the Hutts so they don’t take anything else.” Peli sighed and shook her head. “Tried to warn her…”
Din ground his teeth, looking back over his shoulder toward your stand. How could anyone prey on someone like you? Someone so soft and sweet and beautiful and…
He shook himself mentally. He was not going to stand there and think about you, even though you’d sent a shockwave through him, sparking a kind of want he hadn’t felt in years. It would be so easy to picture it, gently pulling the linen from your body, running his hands - bare, not gloved - over every inch of your plush curves, sinking into the soft, welcoming warmth of you.
“Has anyone tried to help,” Din asked. “With the Hutts?”
“I mean, maybe not her specifically, but,” Peli shrugged. “Not like people pay up because they want to, Mando. People have pushed back. It never goes well. Short of taking down the whole operation? No help for it. But that’s life, eh?”
Din nodded once, holding Grogu a little closer.
You came by a few hours later, a small basket of fruit propped on your hip and a smile on your face even though your eyes looked distracted.
“Here you go,” you broadened your smile as you handed the basket to the Mandalorian. “I thought he might like some more. These were what he was eating most of earlier. What’s his name, anyway?”
“Thank you,” Din said. “And his name is Grogu…”
“Stupid name!” Peli called from another room.
“No it’s not!” You called back before looking at the child. “It’s a good, strong name. Perfect for you, hm?”
“Patu,” Grogu said, his tone serious. You smiled.
“Thought so,” you said.
You stayed for dinner - a barely passable soup that you were kind enough to pretend to enjoy - and played sabacc with Din and Peli. Grogu climbed into your lap and you splayed the cards out in front of him, his little hand reaching out to touch them.
“See, this is a good hand,” you said, leaning in to whisper into his large ear. He kid stretched forward and smacked his hand on one of the cards. “Good pick, that’s a high value card, a whole 10 points…”
“You’re making it easy to beat you,” Peli said, smirking across the table.
“Can’t lose when you’ve already won,” you replied. “And which one of us has the youngling in their lap? That would be me.”
“You’re just new,” Peli waved you off. “He’ll be back to me eventually.”
“We’ll see about that,” you kissed his little head. “I’ll just keep plying him with fruit, keep him on my good side.”
“Patu!”
“Exactly,” you said, and Din was so distracted picturing you aboard the Razor Crest with his son on your lap that he forgot it was his turn.
As the evening wound down and you got ready to leave, Din had almost convinced himself that he could let you go. It was the only logical choice, after all. You barely knew each other. Just because you were beautiful and gentle and looked like you might be the softest thing he’d ever touch didn’t mean that you belonged anywhere near him. The opposite, in fact. The life he led would be no good for you, it was useless even day dreaming about what couldn’t be.
You said your goodbyes to him, Peli and Grogu and Din had the unfamiliar ache of longing in his chest as he watched you go, staring at the doorway you’d left through for a few seconds too long.
“Aw kriff,” Peli groaned. “She left her shawl and I’m wasn’t planning to go to the market tomorrow…”
“Here,” Din said before he could think better of it, taking the linen wrap from Peli’s grasp. “I’ll catch her. Watch the kid for a minute. And actually watch him this time.”
“Yeah yeah,” she waved him off before turning her attention to Grogu. “Is your dad just a big shiny menace? Huh? Yeah, I bet he is…”
He thought he was going to have to track you to catch up with you but, instead, he found you standing in the middle of Peli’s hanger, staring up at the night sky. Stars sparkled over your head, the light reflecting in your eyes, and Din could see the streaks of ships leaving the atmosphere as they shot into the galaxy. You had that distracted look on your face, one worn by people with problems that took time - and muscle - to solve.
“You forgot this,” Din said, holding the shawl out and making you jump.
You laughed a little.
“Thanks,” you said. “I’m not sure where my mind has been lately.”
You looked back up at the stars, wrapping yourself in the shawl, and sighed in a sad, longing way.
“What are they like?” You asked, still looking up. “The stars. From up there, I mean.”
“Far away,” Din said.
You laughed again.
“Don’t I know it. Part of why I’ve never made it off-world…”
Din frowned.
“You’ve never left Tatooine?”
You glanced at him, a sad smile on your face before looking back to the stars.
“Never had the chance,” you said. “But I hope I will, some day. But… doubt I ever will.”
You looked at him for a moment, your eyes finding his below the vizor.
“Well, it was good to meet you,” you said. “Take care of that youngling of yours, he’s too sweet to let anything happen to him…”
You started to leave but he stopped you, his hand shooting out and catching you at your elbow, the contact with you like an electric jolt running through his body. You gasped at it, looking to where he was touching you before looking toward his face again.
“Mando…” Your voice was quiet, breathy.
“Do you really want to leave?” He asked before he could stop himself.
“Yes,” you whispered. “I want to see some of the galaxy, I want to do something I love, I want a life, a life I can’t have here.”
He could feel it then, a chance at the life he’d pictured, one that had you there with him and his son.
“Come with me,” he said.
“What?” You laughed a little. “Mando, we just met…”
“I can get you out of here,” he said, ignoring you. “Make sure the Hutts never bother you again.”
Your eyebrows knitted together.
“Did Peli…”
“Does it matter?” He asked. “I’m offering you a chance to see the stars.”
“With you?” You asked, your eyes finding his below the visor and he had the thought, again, of undressing you, of touching you, of feeling you in a way he’d never allowed himself to feel anyone else.
“Yes,” he said.
“And Grogu?”
“Yes. We can leave tonight, now, if you want it.”
You looked up at the stars again, the soft sparkle of their far away light shining on your skin.
You looked back at him.
“I want it,” you said quietly. “I want all of it.”
Din smiled below the helmet.
“Then let’s go.”
You sat on Din's cot in the Razor Crest, desperately trying to get the whining green baby to sleep. Mando was off, collecting another bounty for credits whilst you were left here babysitting. It was part of the deal, after all.
He took you in for protection, and you would prove yourself useful.
Din had found you on one of his hunts for a bounty— well, more like you had found him.
You were being held captive by the very man he was after, and when you ran into the Mandalorian you quickly made an alliance with him, leading him straight to the bounty.
You told Mando little of your past, and he knew better than to push. What he did know, was that you needed out and could be a valuable assest, showing your expertise in mechanics and skilled fighting.
You would almost, dare say, consider the new arrangement, safe for you.
Which was new from what you'd ever known, always trapped and having to report back to the same place all your life. Without knowing if you had a real family out there or not, without knowing how much more of your life you'd have to live.
So yeah, you could get pretty used to this.
A sound of the hatch opening caught your attention, meeting the familiar beskar helmet. You were silent for a moment, trying to hide your excitement at his return when you noticed his limp.
"What happened?" You asked, setting Grogu down carefully and rushing to help him.
"Bounty." Came a curt response, and you couldn't say you were shocked at his cold demeanor.
You almost rolled your eyes in the vagueness of his answer, "Very descriptive, Mando."
No response.
Huffing, you grabbed a kit, handing it over to him.
"Thank you." Was his only response as he tried his best to walk normally over to a nearby table, opening up the kit.
Watching silently as he removed some of his armor (never the helmet, you came to learn), you saw him slightly lift the cloth worn underneath, a wound on the back of his torso. He hissed as he reached back, struggling to clean off the blood.
"Let me help you," you finally spoke up, being met with the stubborn look that you were somehow able to understand underneath his helmet. "Din."
At the call of his name he finally complied, handing over the clumped up rag, turning around.
With shaky breaths you dabbed the cloth in water, hoping to clean the wound up a bit before applying any bacta.
You moved slow, hesitant towards his bare side, the rag finally making contact with him. He jumped at the touch, clearly holding back any noises of pain. "Sorry," you mumbled, retracting your hand away for just a second. "But I have to clean it up before I can put any bacta on."
Finally being able to focus on the task at hand, but still moving carefully, you cleaned it up the best you could, setting the dirty towel aside and spraying bacta on the wound, practically wincing with Din anytime he jolted suddenly.
"Finished." You called out, and only when he turned, helmet almost meeting your face, then did you realize just how close the two of you really were.
"Thank you. Again." He breathed quietly, also aware of the close proximity. Neither of you daring to break away, you bath sat silently on stools, and for a moment, you swear you saw him lean just forward, his hand twitching to meet yours.
You find yourself caught in whatever trance this was, heart beating rapidly—
When the cooing of Grogu on the floor snaps you back.
"I should, um," you stumbled across your words, clumsily standing to grab the little one. "Take him. You should probably wrap that. So it doesn't get infected, or anything."
Only nodding in response, the Mandalorian stayed and watched as you walked further and further away from him, out of reach.
Once again.
─── ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ───
You go weeks without addressing anything of the situation.
You tagged along with Mando in the next bounty hunt, leaving the ship and Grogu in Peli's hands as you stopped at Tatooine.
The mission consisted of someone who was associated with the man who once held custody of you— who on a technicality, still did. And you'd be lying if you said you weren't terrified of the chance of you having to go back to that life once more, but found solace in the fact he was captured previously.
You and Din split up, figuring secrecy was best suited for this mission. Stealth was always your forte, and clearly not his. He stood out too much with the armor, of course.
So you two went separate routes to the coordinates, as you took to the rooftops and Mando by streets. You'd kept him in your line of sight for the most part, seeing him successfully locate his way.
"I'm here." You quietly called to the comms, standing on top of the roof of the supposed building.
"Going in." He replied as you watched him head into the building, you looking for a nearby latch or window to sneak in through.
Your plans were cut short, however, when a bullet hits you in the arm.
"Fuck!" You cried out, crawling over to hide behind a large chimney. The shots fired towards the bricks, debris flying. You pulled out your gun, shooting from over your shoulder, taking the sniper out. "Mando! I've been compromised!" Not bothering to listen for a response you peeked in the direction of the (now dead) shooter.
You quickly learned that there were more than one, though, when more shots were fired from a different direction. You ripped off a piece of your sleeve and wrapped it around your arm for good measure on the bullet wound, and dropped from the rooftop to behind the building, shielding yourself from sight.
"Where is she?"
"I don't see her!"
You put your gun back in its pouch, opting for a knife. You followed the voices, locating them and lurking behind before taking them out, trying to find a way inside the cantina Din went inside when you were tazed, groaning in pain as you fell to the ground.
"Did you really think you would get away so easily, little bird?"
Your heart sunk to your stomach at the familiar voice, looking up to see the very face you hoped you wouldn't.
"Cat got your tongue?" He chuckled, and you were paralyzed, unable to move as he stood over you. "I won't let you get away, not this time. You'll never—"
A simple three shots ended his rant.
"Y/n!"
Your head whipped around to meet the Mandalorian, bending over to check on you. "What happened?"
Almost too much was going on for you to process, you didn't even realize the beads of tears that ran down your cheeks. Too much that you didn't realize how the Mandalorian, the very same, stoic one who mostly only spoke to either Grogu or to say thank you, the very same one who never let you get too close for comfort, was on his knees. For you.
"I'm- I-" you breathed, the floodgates rushing open. You silently leaned into his chest, and for once, Din didn't push you away.
"Let's just get you back to the Crest, alright?"
─── ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ───
After a brief explanation and some calming down, Peli left you and Mando in the newly fixed Crest, still keeping Grogu inside, both of you insisting not to wake him from his nap yet.
Still shocked, you sat down silently, doing nothing but staring at a wall. You were so numb that you didn't even notice Din taking out the kit, tending to your wound as you did his not too long ago. For once, the closeness didn't affect you whatsoever, the same voice repeating itself in your head over and over again.
"You won't get away this time."
You succumb to the thoughts of your head, still scared, despite knowing he was gone and who was beside you.
"Hey," Din's voice called out to you, your glossy eyes snapping over to meet his helmet. "He's gone now. You don't answer to him anymore. He's gone and he doesn't own you. You're free."
The words you waited to hear all your life don't feel as good as you thought they would.
Freedom was something you once thought was unattainable, something you dreamt of. But now that you have it?
It almost feels just as horrifying.
"You can do anything you've ever wanted to do," Din continued. "You can leave. Be free of this place, go wherever."
"I could leave?" You inquired. The thought of what you'd do now that you have a life that's your own and only yours has crossed your mind just a few times, and not in many of those thoughts have you thought about leaving Din and Grogu.
But would it be for the better?
You contemplate your decisions, would they even want you to stay? They were doing just fine on their own before you even arrived, they clearly would be just fine if you left. Figuring it was an invitation to leave you wordlessly get up, turning your back to him.
"You could also stay."
Four simple words make you stop in your tracks, and cowardly, you don't look back at him. "And why should I?"
"Because I want you to," He speaks, and after all this time, only now are you able to detect the emotion in his voice. You turn around to the beskar covered man, never seeing him look so small. "For him. For us."
For a moment you think he's talking about both himself and Grogu, but you understand that when he says us, he means you and him. And it should be heartwarming, it should make you want to jump into his arms and accept, but it only makes you angry.
"Us?" You repeat, and in a tone that chills him to his core. "There is no us, Din."
He's pleading now, and if only you could see his expression under the mask. "Please."
"And if I stay?" You push, walking slowly towards him. "How will I have you?"
"All of me."
You only shake your head, knowing it wasn't possible. "All of you, with a full armor of beskar every night. All of you, with short and meaningless conversations. All of you, with gloves on and hands I'll never get to truly hold. All of you, with lips that will never touch and a face I'll never see."
"My creed-"
"This isn't about your creed, Din Djarin," you practically whisper, scared if you talk any louder your voice will crack. And Din knows, Maker he does, that this isn't about his creed. It isn't about the armor that he's wearing but about the armor he puts up, about the space that he's put between you two and what he guards his heart with.
"If you think for a moment that this is about what you wear," you pause, and Din has never wanted you to see his expression underneath his helmet more than his does in this moment. "Then you really don't know me at all. If I cannot have you, truly have you, without the armor," you press against his chest plate with a light hand, and stuck in place, he doesn't give into the instinct to hold it.
"Then I won't have you at all."
