#and beth and noah... the POTENTIAL

Let me start with this: I love the show. It has some of the best character arcs, storylines and visuals I have ever seen. Despite its faults and occasionally infuriating choices, I will always ALWAYS simply adore the show.
H O W E V E R.
The worst decision ever made was killing Carl. I will ALWAYS be mad about that and ALWAYS hate them for it because it had absolutely NO payoff. Did Glenn’s death hurt like a mothafucka? Yup. Did it add to the story and plot? Yup. Same with Abraham and Herschel and Beth and Rosita and Noah and Tara and Enid and even fucking Merle. But Carl????????? CARRRROOLLLLLLL?????? Literally nothing.
Absolute. Fucking. Stupidity.
Why are these emotions rising up now, you may ask? Because TOWL is a beauty of a show and it manages to capture a nostalgia and a beginning (of sorts) that has a lot of promise. The show is genuinely good. The actors are acting. It’s giving. But (SPOILERS AHEAD) while Rick returns home to his family, the most important person isn’t there. Can you imagine how much more the payoff would’ve been if Carl had been there too? Or if Carl had gone off somewhere and Rick gets to know he’s built a relationship with Negan??? There was so much potential, so much that could’ve been done, so many ways to reach an inevitable ending that feels right and satisfactory. But that ALL, literally ALL OF THAT depended on Carl being alive. On Chandler being a part of the show because goddamn did that kid understand the bones of his character.
One fucking decision, just one, that imo fucked up the show in the worst way possible.

still stuck brainrotting over noah's wasted potential, ESPECIALLY his supposed spot in heather's alliance in island. just imagining a friendship between him, lindsay and beth where they take him in as their alliance buddy and honorary grumpy gbf where he eventually tries to convince the two to work against heather's iron grip on them, only to be outmanoeuvred by her an voted off for his "mutiny" (either before or after beth is disillusioned with heather, i haven't decided) likely in a vote that would have sent heather home had she not been blessed by plot armour (i'm thinking an early introduction of the immunity idol or something).
just. noah who at least tries to live up to his title as the schemer by playing along with heather's plans- since an early game alliance is pretty much a guarantee for safety until the teams merge- whilst secretly plotting against her.
also imagining a scene where noah is braiding lindsay's hair or painting beth's nails, not because he wants to, but as a means of fostering a better relationship with the two over heather of course. he absolutely doesn't miss his sisters and isn't staving off his home sickness with his 'alliance associates', not at all.

Also about the misogyny thing I feel like people are willing to write whole manifestos about Noah , Tyler and Trent’s wasted potential than reduce Katie , Sadie, Eva and Beth to annoying fodder. (I don’t think these four are rounded characters but most people aren’t really willing to expand on them). I feel like if Beth was a boy , he wouldn’t be as hated. Also I feel like of the female characters Courtney and Sierra are the ones brought up the most and just to shit on them (I’m annoyed by how Sierra was written too but you don’t have to bring her up this much).

I have an idea for a total drama rewrite. first things first we change the setting from canada to the united states, because no one likes canada. next we need a precise location- obviously for optimal challenge potential it'll have to be by a beach, close to the woods, and close to a city (for action). let's say rhode island, just because it already has the "island" in it so we can keep calling it tdi.
next I would shrink down the cast to only a few competitors, to really give them the spotlight. let's say owen, izzy, beth, ezekiel, noah, and scarlett to start with. owen is the lovable but often misguided and oafish lead, izzy is the mentally unstable but caring ginger. beth is the hated but sympathetic teen trope, ezekiel is the socially awkward boy. scarlett is the evil genius, of course. noah is the liberal.
now let's change some of the content- total drama already teeters on this anyway, so let's just make it a more mature comedy. they can say minor swears and show more blood and guts type stuff.
okay, now let's say that instead of challenges, it's just about this cast of characters going about their daily lives in a home together while dealing with a bunch of cartoony shenanigans. there's pop culture, political commentary, and a lesson at the end of every episode. jokes are told through the format of a setup, cutting to a related short scene, then back to the main plot.
now let's say that it seems today that all you see is violence in movies and sex on TV. but where are those good ol' fashioned values, on which we used to rely?

Before I get into my screaming and crying and chewing on furniture, I should probably give context to what I'm talking about, so;
Altered Arrangements ! A what-if idea where Noah takes Beth's place in Heather's alliance, that quickly evolved into a whole au and potential series rewrite. With a new challenge and elimination order, as well as teams and dynamics.
I haven't posted too much writing of this au, but I do have two oneshots;
Alliance Nigh, in which the contest is reluctantly pushed aside to allow one night where Heather, Lindsay, and Noah can just hang out as "friends".
Aiming Chekhov's Gun, in which the alliance finds itself in uneasy waters, and is unable, or unwilling, to do something about it.
There is more to this au than this dysfunctional silly trio, but it'll remain in focus as I develop the other characters a bit more. They make me very unwell <3

okay well total drama has a LOT of obvious mistakes and most of them come from the time in which it was written and published and the rushed season of only 13 instead of 26 episodes starting with ROTI
i also feel like they treat their characters and ships very badly, making them go right back where they started if they ever get any growth, which rarely happens. or their development is too sudden and not believable. priya, max, scarlett, that mini-arc shasmine had about splitting the money, aleheather in TDWT, prileb in TD 2024...
i rewatched ROTI and the girls were mistreated horribly. what can you expect from a season where the finalists are two guys? dakota’s internal issues were never discussed further than a funny haha moment when dawn read her aura, dawn never got to do anything for her team and her elimination was rushed, jo’s internalized mysoginy was a haha joke and never adressed properly, zoey had a whole villain-and-back-to-hero arc and STILL didn’t make finale???
also i hate when they introduce some groups and never further develop them, or develop them very little. lindsay, beth and ezekiel could’ve been an ICONIC trio. i miss leshawna and gwen’s friendship so much, and same goes for bowie and emma. jo and brick had so much potential to become allies or at least frenemies, amy and sammy were not handled well, THE E-SCOPE TRIO!!! i’m in shambles
so if i wrote TDI i’d just give the characters some proper development, more moments to shine, more fun relationships with the others. this show is based on its characters, they’re the stars!! so why not make them shine instead of burn??
gen 1 is too much work to rewrite but i’d keep TDI about the same except have a leshawna vs gwen finale, with leshawna as a ‘canon’ winner. TDA would have a harold vs lindsay finale with harold as the ‘official’ winner.
in TDWT i’d cut the duncney-gwuncan arc, make duncan never come back cuz fuck that guy, gwourtney wins. sierra gets better development. noah makes merge and fulfills his schemer role, constantly sabotaging alejandro. they become frenemies. aleheather still wins and goes to finale. alejandro doesn’t get the robot costume and we don’t hear from him again until TDAS.
for ROTI, would make jo a proper antagonist and make her butt heads with scott when the merge happened. my final six for ROTI would be scott, jo, zoey, brick, lightning and anne maria. yes, brick and anne maria, you read that right.
i still think scott shouldn’t make finale, and jo only if she got development. so maybe the merge could happen just two episodes earlier to get more stuff out of them, so the merge would include cameron and mike. scott would go before jo, and jo would be left to fend for herself after scott got cameron eliminated. this is where i would make her develop a friendship with anne maria and brick. get zoey in there and you have the anti-scott alliance. they get him out (NO TRAUMA CHAIR NEEDED, HE WILL BE FINE) and then lightning, then the girls unite against brick. sorry man.
the finale would be between two of the girls, i’d like to see jomaria or joey fight, jo needs that development. the one who gets out previously is an insta-elimination and not decided by the others.
and voilá! jo gets development and some healthy friendships! her and brick could also get together but maybe in another season. this season is for her alone to shine, she deserves it.
oh, and that’s the main thing about ROTI - i’d give them two more seasons. they deserve a WT-esque season.
i’d completely rewrite TDPI. make rodney first diss when the girls are disgusted by him (and also shit him cuz fuck him), dave an earlier boot, get beardo like third or fourth cuz i wanna see more of him, give scarlett a proper character arc instead of a rushed one throughout just one episode, make max a bit smarter and let him become a ‘hero’ rather than a villain he wants to be by rescuing everyone from scarlett since he knows her weaknesses best...
my ideal final five are shawn, jasmine, max, topher and ella. also my five favorites so no wonder. i’ll explain their arcs.
topher - 5th: shawn and jasmine, as well as max and ella, become duos after the scarlett incident (maybe it happens earlier?), and topher is outside of any alliance. plus he was getting kinda annoying, not to mention he gave chris too many ideas for challenges. damn it, topher!
ella - 4th: when she is forbidden from singing, she still goes behind chris’ back and does it, only that she intercepts sugar’s note and burns it. sugar is an earlier boot than originally because ella realizes she just hates her guts and she’s trying to befriend her for nothing. when ella stops singing, she puts her head in the game more than usual, but her refusal to hurt animals and serenade them instead gets her out eventually, by chris, not by the others.
max - 3rd: with no alliance and a softer spot than usual, he gets out at his own, last challenge.
finale: shawn vs jasmine
the same conflict about splitting the money, only that it comes earlier and is developed more. for one, chris shows jasmine the confessionals right after max’s voting ceremony.
shawn’s helper ends up being ella, but she’s been watching from playa des losers and is unhappy with how shawn treated jasmine. meanwhile, max is jasmine’s helper. max and jasmine sabotage shawn, ella doesn’t help him, but then when max and ella are given the controls for the island, they both realize the gravity of what they’ve done when they see shawn and jasmine buried in snow.
both jasmine and shawn get an ending. in both endings, jasmine gets out of the snow, doesn’t pay attention to the finish line, and goes to search for shawn, who pops out in confusion. the two have a heart-to-heart interrupted by chris to announce the race is still happening, and they have ten seconds left. in shawn’s ending, jasmine just nods to him and he crosses; in jasmine’s ending, shawn insists she crosses. pretty similar endings, the outcome is about the same, but i like to think jasmine’s is the ‘canon’ one.
and then they get another season!
so, our seasons are...
gen 1 - 3 seasons: total drama island, total drama action, total drama world tour
gen 2 - 3 seasons: total drama revenge of the island, total drama retour, total drama cruise or lose
gen 3 - 2 seasons: total drama pahkitew island, total drama reaction
gen 1 x gen 2 x gen 3: total drama all stars
TDAS would include eight contestants of each generation. gen 1 gets heather, alejandro, owen, noah, gwen, courtney, sierra, and leshawna. gen 2 gets jo, anne maria, zoey, mike, brick, cameron, lightning and scott. gen 3 gets shawn, jasmine, topher, max, ella, sugar, sammy and scarlett.
and then for the reboot i’d just make bowie win for the first season. the second season would have more development.
emma and bowie become friends again. mkulia become reluctant allies but still dislike each other. eventually they warm up to each other tho 👀. ripaxel also happens over the course of more episodes. couples butt heads - mkulia, rajbow and ripaxel - but mkulia dominate the game. short ripaxel-mkulia alliance in which they get out prileb (who have a better development trust), wayne and bowie.
damien gets to keep his immunity idol but doesn’t need to use it until the final five: axel, julia, mk, damien and raj. the girls unite against him, but he and raj voted for julia, so you can imagine mk is unhappy, but damien wins immunity. yikes.
so finale time is damien, raj and axel. everyone gets an ending, but damien is the ‘canon’ winner because HE DESERVED IT COME ON.

It's our last SDCC and I'm sad and angry because I love this fucking show so much and I'm going to miss it but at the same time good riddance because yeah we overstayed our welcome
so here's 2 lists in no particular order of
10 THINGS THE WALKING DEAD GOT RIGHT
1) Shane and his descent into madness; 2) Rick as a benevolent and kind leader that also goes batshit crazy and ruthless when needed; 3) Michonne and Carl's friendship; 4) Carol's character development; 5) Carol and Daryl and their incredibly beautiful and meaningful bond; 6) the whole concept of Team Family; 7) pretty much the whole existence of Glenn, Eugene, Lydia and Jerry; 8) siblings love; 9) Aaron having a second chance of having a family with Gracie; 10) villains with very different mindsets, goals and iconic aesthetics.
10 THINGS THE WALKING DEAD GOT WRONG
1) the mistreating of female characters in general; 2) the Rick/Lori/Shane love triangle, putting all the blame on Lori's shoulders; 3) Andrea's whole arc; 4) the non-ending pain parade Carol and Daryl have to unnecessarily endure, which got in the way of they becoming a couple; 5) killing off legacy characters (Carl, Beth, Noah, Henry, Enid); 6) introducing a load of new characters each season just to kill them before the audience can even connect so their arcs are pretty much useless; 7) killing Bob, Tyresee and Noah, three black man, one after the other and on an increasing traumatic manner; 8) Glenn's wasted potential as a character, his death and Negan's redemption arc altogether; 9) Maggie's character development; 10) yes, I'll repeat myself here, Carol and Daryl not being a couple.
and no I won't explain my reasoning
my beloved characters and show deserved better

Classpect the Total Drama characters RIGHT NOW. GO!
HELL YEA ABSOLUTELY
ezekiel - bard of rage. he is the gamzee of td without a doubt
eva - mage of rage. two rage players back to back but cmon she’s gotta be. mages (in my interpretation of the class since they’re like the least explored) have a deep understanding of their aspect through suffering through it and though we don’t see a lot of her in the 3rd episode where she gets eliminated we see that she feels bad abt her anger issues to some degree so like she is understanding rage through suffering it
noah - page of mind. he’s book smart and has a good grasp of other ppls thought processes despite not being great socially (because he has autism if u ask me) but never gets to amount to his full page potential on the series
justin - heir of light. light as the class representing luck fits him in the sense of his good looks being most of his power. since they’re something he was literally born with (inherited one might say) he’s an heir of light
katie - rogue of heart. spoiler for like 4 entries down but sadie has the exact same classpect. i think it’s fair to say that they’re redistributing their identities to each other.
tyler - tentatively calling him a bard of hope. he’s trying very hard but he keeps fuckin it up. also wanted to give him good ol bard near invincibility.
cody - page of hope. part of me wanted to make him a mage and/or heart player cuz that’s what i am but that’s really not what he is. he is however jake english apparently. tdwt was literally him reaching his full page potential.
beth - seer of space. don’t have much to say for this one beyond being a space player because she reminds me a bit of jade and being a seer cuz she’s a little nerd
sadie - rogue of heart. same reasons as katie
courtney - prince of light. she manages to get ahead through skill and a bit of luck here and there, but her own ambition is the thing that holds her back. she’s the one who destroys her own luck most of the time by pushing it past it’s limits
harold - rogue of time. he did steal courtney’s time on the show in tdi by rigging the elimination and then immediately get booted next episode so he didn’t get to make use of the time for himself. also this is my gfs classpect and harold is one of her favourites
trent - heir of doom. an heir since he’s kind of the normalest one and so is john and a doom player for his uh. poorly handled ocd from the second season that they added so they could break him and gwen up. idk if that makes sense but it does in my heart
bridgette - sylph of blood but im not 100% sure on it. i definitely think she’s a sylph but im not sold on a class. choosing sylph of blood since she definitely wants to fix relationships a lot of the time but also she causes a lot of the problems.
lindsey - maid of heart. i don’t have an explanation other than im love her and it would be cute i think
dj - bard of life. because of the whole accidental harming animals thing in tdwt. he’s so life player in general though
izzy - heir of void. frequently disappearing and reshaping her personality.
geoff - knight of breath. his breath player vibe is insane. knight the protector class and breath the freedom aspect coming together so jeff can defend the right to party
lashawna - knight of blood. the number one friend defender and also love of my life
duncan - thief of breath. this is one that makes sense to me but i can’t explain why. also for fun irony of him being in and out of juvie and therefore having his freedom stolen
heather - thief of light. her unparalleled vriska swag. heather could do vriska and vriska could do heather.
gwen - mage of doom. idk why so many characters have the same classpects as canon characters but anyway. she spends most of the series generally suffering but it does tend to get her far
owen - heir of blood. babygirl has the power of friendship on his side. this is like the first one i thought of i am so certain abt this one. passive class that embodies the aspect and the aspect of friendship? that’s owen babey!!!
sierra - witch of heart. i am not immune to making the romance focused character a heart player. witch because she is going to manipulate her way into that twinks heart whether he likes it or not
alejandro - prince of hope. he is so destroyer of hope omg wait that makes him and heather erivris. they literally were pitch in canon they were kismesises im a genius
blaineley - witch of rage. hashtag girlbossing her way through life by making everyone around her as angry as possible
chef - prince of life. first of all because he can just kill you. and secondly because of how he tried to make dj his apprentice in tda and dj is a bard of life. they’re not so different you and i
chris - lord of doom. THE lord of doom. he is literally the lord of doom he is dooming those canadian teenagers like his life depends on it. he’s so babygirl <3
YEAAAA THERE WE GO im surprised i haven’t done this before actually cuz i love classpecting and putting td characters in magic systems i’ve made a dnd au with them and an au with a magic system my sister made so like yea HOPE U THINK IM BASED AND THAT U LIKE THEM :D

Truly… what season 3 could have been. Speaking of, what would’ve been your ideal ending for it? 💭
👋👋👋👋👋👋👋😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
I feel like I'm def overly romanticising the potential of/s3 bc my immediate thought is that my ideal s3 would've wrapped up the storylines I found annoying ASAP so I didn't have to suffer through them all the way into s4 😂
I primarily mean the Annie's terrible therapist stuff (literally makes me violent though I quite like how the conclusion underlines how rubbish he is, couldve maybe stomached it better were it not sandwiched btwn annie/Noah & annie/Kevin 🤮🤮🤮🤮) & the hills + the donor family stuff (painfully annoying).
I would include the hitman plot too, at a distant third place, cos it felt very lazy -- as a device for why the girls made no money that season, for provision of 😲twists, and in terms of the characters' motivations (particularly re Ruby & annie, but also Fitz at times) around it.
BUT some of the brio stuff was so angsty & delicious!!! It's deffo a strong contender for fave season generally and brio content specifically for me (in part cos of the 🥺Potential, but also bc s1 2 & 4 are all strong contenders for worst season for me sfgfff).
With the context of s4, I do also think my ~ideal s3 would ~end with setting up some of the s4 stuff -- particularly the existence of nick (who seemed to arrive from planet zorbo suddenly) & the Beth-stan conflict (espec cos otherwise stan's response to Ruby being shot comes across as belated). I also would've liked some more annie-nancy content, s4 made the terrible therapist storyline feel ~relevant to annie & nancy repairing their relationship, so it would have been nice to see that seeded in more 😊
& I think I couldve def enjoyed a true to form season finale of Beth + rio + some man + gun! I did enjoy the resolution of the hitman plot overall (and that brio bar scene was fantastic!) but the execution (of the execution lol) was kinda lacklustre, and didn't really feel particularly in conversation with the s2 (& indeed s1) finale, which I think is a waste.
But mostly my ideal ending to s3 would have been after the number of eps we were supposed to see 😭😭😭😭 and then with a long break before s4 started 😭😭😭😭
espec cos as it is beth & Rio's relationship just seems reset, but like in an unearned way! I appreciate what they were trying to do with the next time empty the clip line in the scavenged s3 finale, but I don't like it much :/ and the bit (in the s4 approximation of the s3 finale) abt rio maybe semi realising the hitman was a hitman seemed to just peter out...? I can totally forgive s4 a bunch of clunkiness cos it had to pick up after AND reset from the aborted prev season but I wish we'd had a dramatic brio semi accidental pair up against a common enemy season finale which got a realllll chance to breathe before eg the (genuinely too silly, and that's ME saying it🤯) brio pool playing scene in s4.
...like ugh can you imagine if they actually got to finally yell @ each other after a season of low energy glaring?! 😭😭😭😭 uNfAiR
Similarly I def appreciate that they chose to leave Ruby & stan in a good place for the cobbled together s3 finale, but it does make the ~retreading in s4 feel pretty 2 steps forwards 1 step back♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️🙃😭
...I feel like this is a v boring answer in essence 😂 but yea I think my ideal s3 ending would have been getting to see the full s3 as it was intended 😭 & even if it sucked, at least I'd be able to judge it on its merits!!!

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why? forrrrr Yellowjackets & GG
For Good Girls, it's hands down Kevin.
I tend to disagree with the sentiment some people had that the show never really knew what to do with Annie, but I do think they dramatically dropped the ball with her in s4, especially because I thought the paramedic plot line had so much potential (access to drugs! Turning Annie into her own bridging character into the crime world! Pushing away from Beth and Ruby! So much potential!)
As much as they could frustrate me at the time, her relationships with both Noah and Josh had a purpose. They really pushed her and hurt her and made her grow and backslide and have to reconcile both within herself, but Kevin just....really served no purpose? At all? He was all backslide, and I don't think the show ever really knew how he fed into Annie's arc, what purpose he served on the show, or what they had to say about homelessness, the latter of which is a particular bummer to me as the show has previously actually been pretty nuanced around the way poverty and economic strife consume life, both in the main story with the girls and with, for instance, JT having to lie about where his nephew lives so he can go to a better school.
Kevin's entire character was just ill thought-out to me, and it doesn't help that I didn't find the actor particularly good.
As for Yellowjackets, it's Travis. I at least get what function he serves narratively, but I find he can suck the energy out of the show a bit. In a lot of ways, I feel like he's as much of a tether to the old world as Jackie was, but he's nowhere near as compelling or symbolically potent? I'm curious what they do with him in the flashbacks in s2, but I'm also not holding my breath.

Noah! :)
Aww Noah! Oh I liked him so much, even though we didn't get a lot of time with him.
I thought his relationship with Beth was really sweet (actually, I think that, if they both had lived longer, it would've been adorable to see a romantic relationship form between them). He totally got screwed over when he died, and I think that his death was one of the most gruesome the show has ever done. To make matters worse, he was such a sweet guy who never did anything wrong to anybody, and he got a shitty death.
I also loved how he was into studying architecture and wanted to make Alexandria bigger and better. It would've been really cool to see him progress through the show and to see him create new ideas for Alexandria. I think there was a lot of wasted potential when they killed him off. He could've been so beneficial to the group because he truly believed in the future of Alexandria.
Underrated character for sure.
Official theteasetwrites character rating: 7/10

Hello! About the fake dating!au, I was wondering how the episode Niagara brawls would play out if Alenoaheather was happening. Would Alejandro and heather still be paired up or would one of them be paired up with Noah?
Well, to be entirely honest, I haven't really thought too much on it yet. Mostly because it's still kind of up-in-the-air as to when Noah's elimination would take place in this AU. I think we've sort of settled on post-merge, so he would be present in the Niagara Falls challenges, but the timeline's still really vague so I personally haven't really invested any time in figuring out the semantics of how each episode would play out.
But since you asked, I might as well toss my hat into the ring! I'll just type out my thoughts as they come, so please excuse this response if it's a little all-over-the-place or formatted weirdly.
Off the bat, it's been fairly well established that the canon final four remains unchanged, so at the very least both Sierra and Cody are still present in this challenge; this is important, since in canon the only reason Heather ends up partnered with Alejandro is because Sierra is the one who rejects him as a husband first. I don't really see a reason to change the canonical play of events here, unless a brainstorming session later on down the line necessitates Noah being paired with either Heather or Alejandro for whatever reason. Mostly just because keeping as many "pre-written" plot points as possible lessens the workload on our shoulders (us, of course, being me and @perpetualexistence, and occasionally @ur-local-brown-multifandomist).
But that does leave the question of who Noah would be paired with.
And again, this would be super dependant on who's left in the competition at this point; since Noah's made it to the merge, we know someone has to have taken his place in the London elimination- just that small change could have potential consequences on all of the subsequent eliminations afterwards, so the merge cast might look almost completely different to World Tour's "official" line-up.
And this is also super dependant on whether or not it's Blaineley who wins the Aftermayhem challenge- I'm not sure if any of the others intend to swap her out for a more interesting/plot relevant contestant (which, as much as I do love Blaineley, she's just find of there with no real relevance to the story) like perhaps Lindsay, Leshawna or maybe even Beth- I assume it'd have to be a girl, since the show itself works to even out it's gender ratios, but it could hypothetically be anyone.
So Noah's partner could be... literally anyone, save for the Final Four (Alejandro, Heather, Sierra and Cody).
...Unless?
Now, don't judge me here, but I do kind of like the idea of Noah ending up with Heather as his partner. Maybe it's the vast potential of how their (entirely self-constructed, and self-indulgent) character dynamic could play out in this scenario, or maybe I just want the opportunity to write Noah trying and failing to pick up Heather, eventually leading to her being the one to carry him across the Falls tightrope like a pathetic, soggy kitten. Or maybe I'm just getting my Noaheather on- who knows?
All I'm saying is, they'd be giving a lot of Connecticut Clark and Malfina vibes and I'm so here for it.
And maybe I just want to see something new; there's so many explorations of how an Alenoah Niagara Brawls challenge would play out (and they're all wonderful, don't get me wrong!) so it's time to give some other pairings the spotlight!
Plus, this particular scenario would not only allow the contestants to see Heather and Noah acting like the "fake" couple they're supposed to be, but Alejandro could also play it as either a double-breach of his trust (since he's also supposed to be "fake" dating Noah, at least, and he has his whole romantic rivalry with Heather) or take advantage of his position and try to charm whoever he's partnered up with and either secure a valuable ally for later on down the road, or beguile his next elimination target into a false sense of security- since a huge part of Alejandro's character is his conniving flirtatiousness, and I don't want to completely negate that.
Now that I'm thinking about it, Alejandro's flirty nature could be a conflict point between himself and his partners. That's a thought for another time, though.
But, again, it's still very up-in-the-air and I don't really think I can give a definitive answer until a proper elimination order has been established- or, at the very least, the elimination order pre-merge. So, uh, sorry for the lack of a definitive answer!

Let us not forget. Daryl eats like a gentleman in front of Carol. He uses utensils.
With Beth, Daryl stuck his fingers in the peanut butter and ate it, to which Beth turned up her nose and said "gross!" Yet, Daryl didn't care how he looked in front of Beth.
Or him chowing down on a snake with her. Eww.
Even him "takin' a piss" in front of Beth when he could have just went outside. Not gentlemanly. Or fatherly in the slightest. Brothers do weird stuff like that to creep out their sisters.
Daryl offering Connie an apple that had fallen to the ground was hilarious. And not very gentlemanly.
Neither is telling a light-hearted story about his brother caring more about Daryl saving the booze than from him drowning, which isn't a story you would tell if you were deeply trying to connect with someone whose sister/sibling is missing. He was trying to get Connie to cheer up. Not impress her. That is not the story you would tell someone you are trying to impress.
And...Leah, he threw a dead fish at her dirty doorstep. Didn't even bother to cook it up and pretend he had leftovers and wanted to see if she wanted to eat with him. That would have been smooth for Daryl. That would have been more romantic.
But with Carol, he brings her food delicately. He eats properly in front of her. You can see his maturity around her that lacks with everyone else.
How about him defending Carol in her absence when Jesus tried to be cute and compliment "the chef's" cookies? And Daryl stepped right in saying "yeah, she ain't here". His tone clearly expressed "back off, I know her, not you. And she's not available."
Or how he expressed zero jealously over Beth's boyfriends or Noah; he didn't care that Leah and Carver fooled around. But he doesn't have two words to say to Ezekiel and even admitted it to the man. Why do you think that is? One word: Carol.
I am not a Caryler because it satisfies some inner lust I have. Or I like going against the grain. I am a Caryler because it is evidentially true. Literary devices and context clues don't lie. They are building blocks of any relationship in fiction and film. In a world and society where people uphold lying as something virtuous and hiding it behind the guise of "everyone is entitled to their own opinion", it is important that we stand for the truth. Even in fiction. It is important that people who decide to support something, do it in truth. Not because they want Daryl with someone younger or looks conventionally beautiful or has an exotic look that they like. Ask yourselves: What makes sense for the story, based on who the characters are and what they have gone through and where they are in their journey now? That is what is important. Not all opinions are equal because not all are rooted in truth or common sense. One story doesn't tell multiple perspectives, just one. As viewers, it is our job to find it and follow that story to the end. Carol and Daryl's story is real. Their love is real. The bond they share is real. The love they have for one another is real. And their love outshines all others in terms of impact, marketability and sentimentality. Think about it. You don't see anyone bashing Daryl x Maggie or Daryl x Rosita shippers do you? Because it not story-based. Caryl's relationship is as old as TWD's conception, itself. The greater it is, the more criticism and hatred it gets. But historically, that has always been a marker of good things. Of its superiority. Caryl holds 1st place in that. No other ship on TWD does.
Support whatever you want, but do it truthfully. Not because you want to spread lies and misrepresent a character or a ship, as if the audience who watched Caryl for years is somehow stupid and has the wrong idea. Carylers have always had the right idea and their choosing to see the potentiality of that dynamic to turn romantic, is not misplaced.
I enjoy your work and your blog, @my-mt-heart and hope to see more content from you soon!
Thank you for your support and for that really eloquent analysis. I understand shipping can be arbitrary or deeply personal, and I like to think we're all allowed to love what we love for the most part. But I am definitely like you in the sense that I like to rely on context clues and emotional realism to guide me. There are elements to Daryl's and Carol's interactions with each other that go missing when they interact with other potential partners, all of which you exemplified. And you're right that pairing them up with others romantically doesn't feel true to the story that's been unfolding.

I will now spew my shitty opinions on the internet yet again, but this time TOTAL DRAMA (Gen 1 edition :])
these are opinions. don't get mad.
Tumblr media
Ezekiel: during his elimination episode, I was pissed at him, but by the time total drama drama drama drama drama island hit I wasn't that upset tbh. He didn't deserve to go feral, and his issue was fixable (unlike some other bitch up for elimination that episode >:^( ) stop the Zeke abuse y'all
EVA! 😍😍😍😍😍: I love her and my whole world revolves around her. I would be nothing without Eva. If you don't stan Eva get off my page (/hj). Live, laugh, love, Eva. Friendly reminder we wouldn't exist without Queen Eva. She is so girlboss she literally ate a goalie net, broke records, and did stunt work on the side. Everyone bow for our queen.
Noah: don't hate me, but he gets too much hype. I still love him and think he has some of the best oneliners but he is so dry other than that. A fucking chicken without seasoning. This sounds hypocritical based off my Eva opinion, but Noah was in three seasons and Eva was in only one. Noah's only plot relevance was being cynical and sarcastic, being sus of Alejandro, and simping for Emma, yet he has a million and one stans.
Justin: I preferred it when he didn't speak.
Katie & Sadie: I also would prefer it if you didn't speak.
Tyler: wasted potential in season 3 and was also eliminated too early in season 1. I wish we could have seen the lyler breakup on screen, probably because of Alejandro or something. Anyways, sign my petition for a Tyler queer storyline.
Izzy: I hope they make the execution legal again for her and only her. Firing squad, stoning, anything just to get rid of this godforsaken MENACE. Worst member of team e-scope and it's literally named after her.
Cody: call the police girl you are in severe danger!! File a restraining order, beat her up, ANYTHING BRO YOU ARE A VICTIM. But also you're a worthless simp who is literally the most accurate depiction of a teenage boy on total drama other than like Noah. Also, this boy is literally abused. Neglected. Someone give this boy a hug (Not you Sierra get tf away).
Beth: don't care, didn't ask.
Courtney: SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP. I have an intense hatred for Courtney. For the majority of her time on the show I wanted to wring her neck and replace her blood with acetone. Btw boyfriend kisser isn't even that much of bop and is one of my least favorite songs.
Harold: fetishists stan Harold. He fetishes Leshawna and doesn't fucking leave her alone. Don't play pirates with him.
Trent: worst rep of ocd I've ever seen in my whole entire being. Also boring as he'll and I hope he gets stepped on.
Bridgette: she lost me after season 1 but before her venture to superhell she was nice I guess.
Lindsay: please give this girl a single brain cell omg. It feels so wrong to applaud her for doing something remotely smart because SHES SO FUCKING STUPID. She probably doesn't even know simple addition dude. Get rid of the dumb blonde stereotype before I bite your skull.
DJ: the second the animal curse started, I took DJ's six feet height and buried myself in it. I passed away. My soul still lingers to haunt the ho who did this to best boy.
Geoff: god, shut up
Leshawna: black stereotype PERIOD. She's good but oh my god she's a racist stereotype
Duncan: eat dirt and die bitch.
Heather: literally is racist and stuff but okay. I'll take a stiletto heel and stab this absolute loser in the throat damn.
Gwen: I hope the cyan hair dye seeps into her skull and she fucking dies.
Owen: if the man doesn't stop burping and farting I will find his home and burn it, cake it in asbestos, and make him inhale the toxic gases. When he's dying on the hospital bed, I'll stuff a baby down his throat and punch him in the face.
Sierra: jail. Now. Criminal. It is illegal for someone this fucked up to exist. Exterminate this pest at your earliest convenience.
Alejandro: you're a fucking donkey. Now eat some shit and die Al.

I Ranked The Gen 1 TD Characters (AKA, How To Make People Hate You For One Post)
In case you're wondering, yes, I'm bored.
So here's mine, only I'm going to start with my LEAST favorite first gens, and working my way up.
Also, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE I WON’T LIKE YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER, OR LIKE YOUR LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER.
Angering people is inevitable.
With the exception of last place, I DO NOT HATE ANY OF THESE PEOPLE. I do dislike some aspects of them, but I can say something positive about them.
I will probably go into more detail on my thoughts later, if you want me to make analysis posts about anyone.
This does NOT COUNT BLAINELEY. SHE DOESN’T COUNT in my book
And starting it off...
With the ONLY F tier character
IT'S A TIE.
24/23: Katie & Sadie -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It really was no contest. These two are insufferable, and absolutely did not need to exist in the show. I still have NO IDEA why they lasted longer in the game than Noah, or how Sadie lasted up till episode 11, by doing NOTHING. And even after the game, all they ever do is be annoying, argue a lot, or gush over boys and hate Gwen. With the other characters on this list, they at least had potential to be good, even if I dislike some of them. But these two? Nuh uh. They just should not have existed.
Their ‘drama’ is an absolute joke. I cannot take anything they argue about seriously, because it’s either pathetic, off topic of their situation, or just downright annoying and dissing on other people. Their whole character is that they’re friends, they like boys, and they argue like a married couple. That’s it.
OKAY, these are the ONLY characters I hate in this entire list.
22:
Tumblr media
Eva -
There really was no positive traits to be had with Eva, was there? Maybe she could have, but she's only the bad tempered archetype, with nothing else to add onto her. She only competed in 4 episodes, less than Katie and Sadie to be fair, but she still did not leave anyone wanting more of her, especially with how scary she was.
21:
Tumblr media
Beth -
I do not apologize for this one. Beth ranks higher than the other three for at least being in more than one season, thus more screen time, but she is still NOT a good character. The problem is that she only has side character material going for her, with her friendship with Lindsay, being an asset to Heather, being an asst to Justin, her... boyfriend dilemma? All of these make her related to OTHER characters, NOT her individually. What is she like without Lindsay? Uh... she wears a lot of dentals and she follows other people. That's it. I will say I like the scene where she stands up to Heather, but I do wish it was built up to better than not at all, and even then, Lindsay topped it. But then in Action, they decided to take her SIDE character material and thrust it into a MAIN character role. It's like ATLA, only it WASN'T Aang who fights off the Fire Lord, and instead it's the Cabbage Guy. This makes it so that Beth HAS to be an interesting lead to justify her being a finalist, except, she's NOT, she spends nearly the entire game in the back gushing over a boyfriend, cheating on said boyfriend with Justin, cheating on both with Harold for NO reason, and then screwing with the competition in the finale. I can get by her saving Duncan at one point, but like, you are competing AGAINST each other! Even if you're the nicest person in the world, NOBODY would be this stupid to think it's a good idea to team up with your opponent! And she became so insufferable with this role, this UNJUSTIFIED role, that I lost any and all sympathy for her. Action completely RUINED her.
20:
Tumblr media
Ezekiel -
Sorry, I just don't get what there is to love about this guy. I mean, yes, this guy CANNOT catch a break of abuse by the writers, but other than the gag of 'haha, Zeke's always out first' what really is there to say about Ezekiel? Maybe he could have somewhat of an interesting background, with his homeschooled life, and his twisted ideologies that made everyone hate him, but the show really doesn't dive into that. There is a fanfic titled "Ezekiel: A New Chance" on Archive, that dives into Ezekiel in a more interesting way. It's about Ezekiel being sent back in time to the start of World Tour, and trying to make amends with everything and everyone in his second chance in the game. Go read that.
19:
Okay, before we move on, this next one I know is DEFINATELY going to trigger some people. And I don’t know if you’re ready to hear it.
I must make it clear that I DO take huge interest in the character. As a result. THIS one is only OKAY, in my overall opinion.
I DO NOT HATE THIS CHARACTER, BUT I FIND THEM PROBLEMATIC
I’m just gonna say it
Tumblr media
Courtney -
Oof, I am gonna get hate for this one. But I'm sorry. Courtney DOES rank higher than the others and escape the 20s because I do think she is WRITTEN in an interesting way. A spoiled CIT intending to be at the top of everything slowly descending into madness over all her losses is a GOOD idea for a character. I think her transition to insanity DOES make sense, as she's never really been emotionally stable to begin with, and she becomes a great example on how this sadistic gameshow can corrupt people. I actually LIKE the idea of Courtney as an antagonist because of this fact, because Action is the only season where she seems to legitimately get called out. It's also the only elimination that's portrayed as something she deserves, the others, it's either manipulation or the game being rigged, and we're supposed to feel bad for her. Island, Harold rigged the votes. World Tour, Alejandro manipulated her. All Stars... we don't talk about that. But okay, so I think she's decently written, why is she this low on the ranking? Well, for personal reasons. She is ANNOYING. More times than not, I can't stand Courtney, as all she does is whine, scream at people, boss them around without hearing them out, and even abuse a lot of them. Even in Island I didn't care for her, and found her to be pathetic. Especially with all the bad stuff she does aside from that whining, beating up Harold, trying to kill Gwen, cheating, abusing Duncan, assisting Alejandro, etc. While I understand why she's doing it all, I can't route for her because she never gets called out for these bad actions, thus we're supposed to believe the victim deserves it and Courtney is justified in being an awful person. If she was treated like an antagonist most of the time like with Heather, I can excuse it, because we're not supposed to route for her then, but more times than not, we are, and we're not supposed to see any of her consequences as justified, we're supposed to feel SORRY for her. And I can't. I don't feel bad for abusers who don't once regret their actions or apologize, I don't feel bad for cheaters, I don't feel bad for people who have done nothing but whine the entire time. I feel next to nothing for Courtney.
But I will say this, she is interesting to talk about, so if you want my expanded thoughts, I can make an analysis post on her, if you’d like. I have, A LOT more to say.
So at least she has that.
18:
Tumblr media
Sierra -
Yeah, Sierra is just as whiny, but at least she's in less seasons so it's less of a reoccurring complaint. I really only see her as a fangirl obsessed with Cody to progress Cody's character development, and also a very strong competitor in the game. If it weren't for her cake incident, she might have won, or sacrificed herself for Cody in the semi-finals, one of the two. That said, she is still annoying from time to time, and extremely creepy.
17:
Tumblr media
Trent -
Good gosh, Trent is boring. Even in Island, I never cared for him and just saw him as a love interest to Gwen. He is serviceable in that role, but really didn't function right as a character without her. I think Action made that extremely evident.
16:
Tumblr media
Justin -
In a similar vein, Justin didn't even have any lines in Island. Then in Action, his 'antagonist' role was underwhelming to say the least. He feels like a prototype of Alejandro to be honest. All Justin really did antagonistic was get Gwen eliminated, aside from that he just becomes a punching bag.
15:
Tumblr media
Tyler -
Tyler does have some entertaining moments for me, so he is good, just nothing special
14:
Tumblr media
Geoff -
Not gonna lie, I kind of flip flop between him and Tyler. While Tyler is more fun for me than Geoff, Geoff also has more screen time going for him. I'm not a super big fan of him in Action, but I do see what they were trying to do and say, and it does genuinely raise some questions. It's also nice to see him in Ridonculous Race and just be charming with Brody. But personally, if they're gonna be finalists, I would have preferred them not getting eliminated in the first place so that they didn't have to skip a part of the marathon.
13:
Tumblr media
Bridgette -
Gonna be honest, while I like Geoff and Bridgette and think they're good pleasant people, my problems with them are solely personal taste. I just don't find them as interesting as other characters, and thus don't really care about their actions. But Bridgette is still a good character regardless
12:
Tumblr media
Cody -
Also gonna be honest, Cody did NOT leave a good impression on me at the start of the show. I basically thought he was gonna be Dave, and annoying simp and a 'nice guy' to Gwen. But it wasn't long until Cody proved there was more to him than that. Like, wow, he actually thinks about what Gwen wants and needs, and is willing to put his feelings aside to help her out, and allows her to date Trent. That REALLY redeemed Cody for me, and while he wasn't as interesting as others for me, he still had my respect. Said respect and sympathy went up in World Tour when Sierra basically became exactly what I feared Cody would be, only Cody is the victim this time, and it led to some good development for him. I think he lasted a little too long in World Tour, but I am also glad they did this for him. But Protagonist worthy in the Danganronpa fanon?? Not really?? But also could have been worse.
11:
Tumblr media
DJ -
How can you not like DJ? He's sweet, he's kind, he's loveable, how can you not like this guy? Well I do like this guy. He's really only this low because I find other characters more interesting than him, plus World Tour does bump him down.
10:
Tumblr media
Izzy -
I didn't think Izzy would crack the top 10 to be honest, but she's just a blast to watch. She doesn't really need any depth aside from that to be a joy.
9:
Tumblr media
Owen -
I actually think Owen deserved to win Island. Yeah Owen doesn't really have a character arc aside from one in World Tour with Izzy, but I don't think he really needed one. Flat characters exist guys. He is only here because Action had absolutely no idea what they were doing with him
8:
Tumblr media
Leshawna -
I'm a little conflicted with Leshawna in some areas. One, I don't think her arc in Action went as smoothly as they anticipated, and her bad mouthing everyone seemed out of character. This girl is NOT afraid to say aloud if she dislikes someone, in front of everybody, and even then, she has been kind and assisting towards a lot of people, so you're telling me she resents everyone, and would say so behind their back? No. Secondly, I am annoyed that she always walks the fence on her relationship with Harold. I like them together, a lot, but I want a concrete answer on if they're canon or not. Even if that answer is "No Harold, I don't want to date you. We're not official" I'd be fine because at least it's an answer! That said, I still love this chic. We all wanted to bang her at some point, don't you lie to me. She's just filled with personality and lovability.
7:
Tumblr media
Lindsay -
I'm kinda shocked that I like Lindsay as much as this. She's way higher than I originally anticipated. I especially love her development in the first two seasons, with finding her own good relationships, discovering on her own that Heather is a jerk, and even taking a leadership role and learning to trust her own form of intelligence more often, even if it's not traditional. Plus she's just so innocent that I find it hard to hate her. I was really rooting for her in Action to win the whole thing- and the writers completely forgot how to write her afterwards.
6:
Tumblr media
Gwen -
Gwen, by far, is THE most MISUNDERSTOOD character in the entire series, both by others, and by a writing standpoint. Almost every development issue that went into the script of the seasons, ended up revolving around her in some way, and Gwen's character was forced to suffer that. But that's also why she's one of the most intriguing characters to dive into, analyze, and try to make sense of this writing direction. And for me, I just feel bad for her with all of this, as she may be one of the games biggest victims, plus she does still have a cool personality and very human reactions to certain things.
5:
Tumblr media
Duncan -
Duncan is one of the most complex characters in the series, and while not a good person, is definitely an interesting character. Yeah, I can’t defend his actions, at all. I don’t want to. I can’t defend him cheating on Courtney, that was wrong. I can’t defend him bullying Harold, that’s also wrong. But if Duncan really is so unlikeable, why is he this high?
Two things: Intrigue, and Consequence
Unlike Courtney, Duncan actually does get called out for his actions and gets thrown down a peg when it goes too far. Though he doesn’t seem as negatively affected on the outside, it at least makes sense for him to do so with his Juvie background. That’s why I heavily like Duncan more than Courtney despite both of them are, at the end of the day, unlikeable in universe and do a lot of bad things. He gets punched when he deserves it. That’s why him cheating on Courtney with Gwen doesn’t bother me as much as it does to other people. Duncan gets called out for it. He gets comeuppance. I know it seems like he doesn’t to people, but again, he only reacts so non-challaunt about it because of his background, that’d influence such a reaction, so it makes sense.
Secondly, there’s a clear explanation and good understanding of his perspective, as to why he does these things. Courtney is a terrible girlfriend, she actively tried to change him, and any rational person in that relationship would want to leave it. Unfortunately, Duncan’s desperate need to appear as a bad person is something that admittedly does need to change in order for him to have a healthy relationship regardless, and that lack of understanding causes him to cheat with someone he thought liked these aspects of him. While that ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT excuse him cheating, it does EXPLAIN it. Why does he bully Harold? Because he rigged against his girlfriend and to Duncan, the nerd was the driving force of his girl’s insanity. He feels justified in this.
And on top of that, and this is an obvious one, there’s still several sparks of humanity and care in his character, that only becomes more prominent as the series goes on. That shows that if he really wanted to, and under better counseling, Duncan can be a good person one day. Though now that sounds extremely hard for him to achieve with where he’s at now.
So yeah, that’s why I like Duncan’s character over Courtney, and why he works for me personally, whereas Courtney doesn’t.
4:
Tumblr media
Alejandro -
Al is one of the best villains in the entire series, and extremely effective. He may not be the most likable character, but that goes to show how good of an antagonist he is.
3:
Tumblr media
Harold -
Shocked too. Harold is just so fun, so compelling of a character, such a good comic relief and yet so human, as well as such great development, that I put him THIS high. The past month or so, I could not stop thinking about him. That’s insane. Like, I was originally gonna put him at number 7 or somewhere like that, but then I just could not stop liking him. There’s not a lot wrong with this character in a writing stance, to the point where I think the people who hate him solely hate him for personal subjective reasons. And that’s cool. Yeah I like this guy, he’s spunky and cool and I like his relationship with Leshawna and his rivalry with Duncan, and overall filled to the brim with personality. I like his character development on trusting his own abilities and the responsibilities with that and how being victimized doesn’t make you justified in being a jerk. There’s just a lot I could say honestly, he’s probably one of the most overlooked TD characters, good in Island, was best boy in Action. He did unfortunately get shafted in World Tour and was a bad singer, but hey, three chapters open, and I already like him way more in “Ezekiel: A New Chance” regarding this season.
Okay, so to CLARIFY before I do my Top 2. I just want to make it clear, that I think OBJECTIVELY, #2 is the BEST Total Drama character. But SUBJECTIVELY, #1 is my FAVORITE, even though OBJECTIVELY, I do not think they’re as well written as the #2 character. There’s a DIFFERENCE.
2:
Tumblr media
Heather -
NO CONTEST. Heather is HANDS DOWN, the BEST TD contestant in the show, in my opinion. Heather isn't the best person, but I am factoring them as characters here, and as a character, she has some of the show's sharpest writing. I think under the right circumstances she could even become an anti-hero. Yeah she's a jerk and I hate her actions, but unlike Courtney where I'm meant to sympathize with and excuse her bad actions, I'm fully supposed to NOT forgive Heather for anything, and see her as an antagonist. But then on top of being a great villain, she gets sent an extra mile by showing us the aftermath of her defeat and that at the end of the day, she is just a person who wants money. And she's even threshed into a protagonist role in World Tour to rival Alejandro, her own dark mirror, and she wins NOT by becoming a better person or becoming a good guy, but by finding solitude in her own manipulation tactics and her own heart, even if it's a really REALLY dark shade of grey. There is zero denying that Heather is the best written TD character for me.
And you know what the crazy thing is?
She is NOT my favorite.
1:
Tumblr media
Noah -
I KNOW he is NOT the best written character, and is absolutely wasted potential. But I can't help it, I LOVE this guy so much! Every time he's on screen, he's a blast, every piece of dialogue he has slaps hard. He is basically me but lazier and a guy. I adore his sarcasm, I love his friendships with other characters like Izzy and Owen, I love his relationship with Emma (yep, I said it) and I absolutely wished he was in Action.

okay here is one
whose story did you feel ended too soon the most
noah
shane
beth
eric
(all of them ended too soon in my humble opinion but my answer is noah because that boy deserved more)
Uf...again a hard one...🤔💗
Noah and Beth were probably the deaths I wasn't expecting at all 👉🏼👈🏼 the death of them was useless and tragic 💔
You know what 👉🏼👈🏼 I would have loved to see Beth growing into an even stronger person...and I think the time in that hospital did a lot for her 🤔 she had potential 😤
Noah had such a short time to develop...it was just sad he had to die that early 😤
