Your reblog about the senti thing make me LOLing so hard because of the senti defender when shoved a fact that contradict their theory mostly act like "Yeah, I didn't think that far" except they never said it out loud!

I remember when s4 still airing and these senti defender said "senti lives matter!" But whenever I ask, "what about that lolipop thing? Feast? Senti Moth?" They always said "They don't have the same level of intelligence as senti human, probably only at the level of animal"

So basically they said it's ok to kill a senti as long as they either don't looks like human or they have low intelligence. This came from the same people who preach that sentimonster is a good methapor for abuse or disabilities.

In the end it boil down to "if hero kill it, it's good but if villain kill it, it's bad" double standard and I couldn't even fathom what so good about the whole sentimonster!human thing except to make an obedient puppet.

"Yeah, hope Chat can have a upgrade power that could destroy the connection between amok and the senti" they said. Except he already did. TA said in his tweet the reason why Reflekdoll or any senti that gone berserk due to the cataclysm is /exactly/ because the connection was destroyed. It didn't free them, it make them berserk. And ironically, this tweet also what make people think the reason why Chat Blanc is so feral is because half of his amok got destroyed, instead of the long isolation and guilt that eat him.

Also a so called child psychologist preach the whole sentimonster is good methapor for abuse thing make me facepalmed, hard. Why need methapor if it's so obvious? Is miraculous going to put on disclaimer : Attention, no real child is being harmed here. Why take the whole abuse theme if they're not going to do it correctly? Who the heck approved this kind of theme??

Sorry for the long rant and thank you for reading my incoherent rant.

The Sentimonster theory is a shitty metaphor for abuse or disability. What it says to me is that if your disability isn't convenient or "normal," then you don't matter. Hence the "human" Sentimonsters like Adrien, Felix and Kagami who can fit into society are accepted, but the other Sentimonsters are disposable, despite them having the same amount of sentience and life as any of the human ones.

So Senti lives matter, but only if they're a particular type of Senti. If not, then they're not really alive and can be disposed of without a single thought spared to them (even though that's not true, because Felix treated Red Sun like a sister, and Feast, Sentibubbler, etc. clearly had emotions). Which means... only socially acceptable Senti rights matter. The rest of them only exist to be killed by the heroes. The heroes get to decide which Sentis matter and which ones don't, and the only ones that matter to them are the ones that look like them.

And like... if you're going to have an arc about making us understand that these creatures are just like us and have a life and emotions of their own, then don't create classes and divisions between them from the get-go. Don't portray some of them as more worthy than the others. Nothing in the show suggests that the creation of Adrien, Felix or Kagami was in any way different from the creation of Feast or any other Sentimonster. The argument that they are different because they were created to be humans is also bogus, because of Sentibug. She was created not to be a human, but to be a copy of Ladybug, yet she still had free will. All the justifications for this theory fall apart if we think about it for more than 5 seconds.

And the whole Chat Blanc thing you mentioned is part of a larger problem in this fandom, which involves attributing common reactions to abuse in abuse victims to them being artificially created beings. Adrien listens too much to his father? It must be because he's a Sentimonster and is being controlled, not because Gabriel has conditioned him to be subservient to him all his life! They are literally saying victims of abuse and their reactions to abuse are "unnatural," and can only happen if they weren't human at all. I despise this implication, especially since the show doubled down on it.

And it's not like this was a necessary writing choice. What does Adrien being a Sentimonster contribute to his's character? What did the revelation that he's being mind-controlled help us understand about him? What new facet to his character did we learn about? Nothing, really. There is no exploration of what Adrien being a Sentimonster means for him. He doesn't even find out about it. The only reason Adrien became a Sentimonster is so that the writers could justify leaving him out of the finale and so that they could have an obstacle for Adrienette. And I will say, introducing the whole "Sentimonsters deserve free-will" plot point and then using the characters' Senti status as an excuse to deprive them of agency in their own battles is... certainly a choice.

The Sentimonster theory isn't this groundbreaking exploration of the concept of humanity and free-will, nor is it this subversive metaphor for something that was already being portrayed blatantly in the show. It's something the writers used as a plot device to justify removing the three most plot relevant characters from the story so that Marinette could have the finale to herself. That's it. There's nothing more to it than that.

Which is why the concept is so poorly developed. The whole Senti rights thing is brought for about five minutes in Emotion and maybe two minutes in Pretension. After this, Felix, the main advocate for Senti rights himself falls back on all his ideals and creates a Sentimonster to use and then kill. The heroes have spent three seasons killing these livings creatures without a single care in the world. The moral implications of this are never questioned in any way, even though the show pretends it's presenting this thoughtful and nuanced commentary on the matter. No one cares about Sentimonsters. Sentibug is presented as this big deal, but they don't think about her for more than five seconds and then she is never brought up again. Sentimonsters do not matter in this show. Not to the villains, not to the heroes, not even those who start of advocating for them stick to that cause. The narrative doesn't care about Sentimonsters. Any justification made for it just paints in a worse light. It's a shitty metaphor for anything, and it's just a shitty plot point in general.

Miraculous’s problems with how they try to redeem characters.

Nathalie Sancoeur/Mayura

Nathalie has known about Gabriel being a terrorist since the beginning. She has aided him. She willingly allowed Gabriel to akumatize her. She has kept secrets from Adrien. She murdered Senti Ladybug.

Nathalie’s redeeming qualities is that She treats People a little better than how Gabriel treats them.

To try to redeem her, the writers first made her have problems in the hopes that she’d get audience sympathy. They made her get sick from using a broken miraculous and confirm that she’ll die if she isn’t healed. They made her have unrequited feelings for Gabriel and possibly Emilie. Then, They made Nathalie and Gabriel fight and have Tomoe replace her as Gabriel’s main partner in crime.

The problems here is that Nathalie’s “Redemption” isn’t much of a redemption and She gets a happy ending. (Unless something happens in the future seasons) Nathalie’s crimes are left undiscovered.

Nathalie has done and will continue to do little to make up for her villainous behavior.

Gabriel Agreste/Monarch

Gabriel Agreste is literally the big bad. He’s a abusive parent, a terrorist, a brainwasher, kept secrets from Adrien and he’s made death threats. He just gets worse as the series goes on. I do wonder what exactly he would have done if he had succeeded in getting the Ladybug and Chat Noir’s miraculouses in the beginning because a lot of his lines imply that he fully intends to continue being a terrorist even if he gets Emilie back.

There is literally nothing redeemable about him other than the classic “Even Evil people have loved ones”.

Gabriel’s “Redemption” is how when he gets his wish, he sacrifices himself because he’s dying anyway to save Nathalie and possibly Nathalie.

In the new world, He has a almost 100 % approval rating because everyone except Marinette seems to have completely forgot about his bad behavior. Instead, They believe that He’s a Hero that had stopped Hawk Moth/Shadow Moth/Monarch.

The problems is After everything that he did, He doesn’t deserve to be remembered as a Hero. Especially when they believe he defeated himself. Marinette should at least tell Adrien what he did.

Felix Fathom/Argos

Felix has been mean, showed signs of speciesism, stalked, kidnapped, impersonated Adrien, stole and more. Felix gave the majority of the miraculouses and One of the Rings that control Adrien to Gabriel, knowing that Gabriel’s a terrorist. There’s also how he harassed Marinette and wanted everyone except a select few to disappear. Felix also kept secrets from Adrien.

Just like with Gabriel, Felix’s only redeeming quality is the whole “Even Evil has loved ones” thing.

To try to redeem him, Felix was retconned into being a Senti Rights person. (although Adrien appears to be a exception) Felix began dating Kagami, who we all know would scold and beat him up if He continues causing trouble. Colt was said to have been abusive as a explanation/excuse for why Felix is crazy. (What happened to the shows message of “Trauma is a explanation, not a excuse”? )

In The Season 5 ending, Felix’s crimes are forgiven and/or forgotten and he gets to keep the Peacock Miraculous.

The problems here is that Felix and Kagami got together much too quickly. Felix should not be with a Character that’s Good unless He’s behaved himself and regrets his bad behavior for a while, which he hadn’t. Felix has literally stalked and kidnapped her in the same Episode they got together in. Felix at this point, only likes Kagami because she’s a senti and on Kagami’s end, She might be projecting her feelings for Adrien and possibly Marinette onto Felix.

Another problem is Felix expresses very little remorse for his bad behavior and does very little to make up for it.

Mayor Andre Bourgeois

Andre has allowed Chloe to misbehave for years. Andre is a bad mayor.

To try to redeem him, The Writers first introduced Zoe and “reveal” that Andre never wanted to be a Mayor. Then, The Writers had Andre refuse to send Zoe away. Finally The Writers have Andre quit being Mayor, divorce Audrey while giving her full custody of Chloe and adopt Zoe while saying She’s his favorite.

Andre’s ending is basically having a Fresh Start but with Zoe as his daughter instead of Chloe.

The Problems here is that how Andre treats Chloe and Zoe isn’t right. Andre doesn’t take responsibility for how he raised Chloe. Instead, he decides that Chloe will stay with her abusive mother. Andre could’ve easily started giving Chloe more boundaries or send her somewhere that knows how to deal with people like her. Andre has no grounds to adopt Zoe. Zoe’s in her teens and What about Mr. Lee?

Sabrina Raincomprix/Miss Hound

Sabrina and Chloe have been friends for years. Unlike Adrien, Sabrina never had a problem with Chloe’s bullying and has sometimes been shown to enjoy the bullying. Sabrina does Chloe’s homework for her. Sabrina has remained friends with Chloe even after Chloe willingly worked with Gabriel.

To try to redeem her, The writers sometimes show her as a Docile but Nice girl. As well as have Chloe treat her terribly to try to get her sympathy. Then, in Season 5 Sabrina becomes frustrated with Chloe and judging from some clips, Sabrina appears to help Marinette expose Chloe and Lila.

Sabrina’s ending is getting to keep the Dog Miraculous and her friendship with Chloe is over.

The problems here is Why on earth did Sabrina not mind Chloe’s bullying? Her father is literally a police officer, Surely He would raise his daughter to dislike rule breakers? Plus Just like Nathalie, Felix and Gabriel, She doesn’t deserve what she got.

In Total, in every single one of these, Their Redemptions are all “Too Little, Too Late” and in most of their cases, “Went Too Far” to deserve their endings.

The writers appear to mostly just write the story as they go along and they are really bad at writing proper endings and/or redemptions.

Plus Thomas Astruc hates Chloe and Felix which comes out in the show. In his debut, Felix was deliberately made to be as nasty as possible. Chloe’s father and best friend get officially redeemed in the narrative by cutting off ties with her. Chloe’s the only villain/antagonist without a good ending in Season 5.

But the Adrien he’s known since childhood isn’t there either, and, much as Felix would like to attribute the tapping he’s noticed his fingers do every time Adrien doesn’t answer one of his questions to annoyance, he knows it’s truly because he feels unnerved by it all.

“I need a place to stay.”

Adrien says this in English, not French. Felix, in opposition to any kind of fraternal instinct he may be hypothesised as (or blamed for not) possessing, grips the doorframe a bit tighter to himself.

“You should’ve sent a message.”

“You know he listens in on my phone,” his cousin replies, not missing a beat, and his eyes haven’t left Felix’s yet. Adrien doesn’t like holding eye contact for that long. Not when he’s asking for help.

Felix opens the door wide.

There are calls in the next few days. His mother deflects all questions, letting the appropriate amount of distress seep into her voice, the appropriate amount of futile consolations and dignified groveling (which is how he knows his uncle is on the line and not Nathalie Sancoeur). There is one visit from Ladybug, and none from Chat Noir. When Felix asks Ladybug how her partner is, she says ‘fine’ in that distinct tone of voice people have when the truth is ‘I don’t know’.

Felix looks at his cousin, sometimes. Looks and wonders. The silver ring he’d taken to wearing a couple of years ago is gone.

This, in turn, makes him actually annoyed, nearly as much as Adrien and his mother’s whispering behind closed doors. Felix suspects it has to do with something else he suspects about his uncle. He cannot seem to make the final connection, though, another annoyance in an ever-growing arsenal.

There is one call that isn’t like the rest, mostly because it rings on Felix’s phone and not his mother’s or the house phone (Adrien had discarded his and had started operating with a new one; Felix and his mother had powered up some back-ups of their own to contact him), and because it is not somebody that Felix even thought could have his number.

“I believe we have a mutual friend at your school,” Kagami Tsurugi says, and Felix believes her for a fraction of a second before she adds, “and I was hoping you could give him a message from me?”

Felix agrees, and Kagami dictates to him how to transliterate the Japanese phrase she gives him. “He’s not fluent,” she says, “but I did teach him enough for him to understand it,” and, with little further pleasantries, hangs up.

When Felix gives Adrien the note, he watches his cousin grip the piece of paper at one corner in the same way he’d handled sparklers as a kid at New Year’s: as if the flitting bits of flame would burn off his face. His expression turns blank as his eyes scan and rescan the short sentence, evidently putting together its meaning, and by the end of it it’s completely closed off in a way Felix doesn’t remember ever seeing.

“Couldn’t have been that unfriendly, now, could it,” he says, then realises he’s tapping his fingers against his thigh again. Blast it all.

Adrien shakes his head so slowly it almost looks like a cat stretching its neck. “No, not unfriendly. Kagami’s just very blunt sometimes. Like you.”

“By which you mean correct?”

A smile - small and see-through like origami paper. “Yes. Correct.”

He doesn’t elaborate any more than that. Felix keeps tapping his fingers, and keeps his cursing to himself.

The first thing Adrien does is find a job.

Luckily for him, being a star young model in France had involved a sufficient amount of photo alteration that, supplanted by a hair-colour change, had meant his being virtually unrecognisable once his hair had turned chestnut brown under their sink. Felix still thinks it’s a stupid risk to take vis-a-vis his cousin’s aim to avoid discovery, but he’s not going to tell him that. He’s only going to indirectly but pointedly insult his intelligence for it.

Adrien, continuing to be completely not-himself, rolls his eyes and doesn’t argue, just trudges himself up on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for opening shifts at the Costa he works in in Elephant and Castle and comes back in the evenings on Mondays and Fridays after he closes, and Felix does point out how he doesn’t technically need to earn money, to which the answer is:

“If he finds out where I am and that he has to settle a debt with my aunt, I will genuinely be in big trouble.”

You already are, Felix thinks, what does it matter, but then he realises that what Adrien is actually saying is that this is temporary and I’m sorry and I need a little bit of courage, just a tiny bit of rest and that he’s right, and Felix’s uncle’s idea of honour would absolutely include a clause against relying on family when needing any of these things. So, he lets it go and keeps leaving Adrien’s meals out covered for when he comes back late and doesn’t dine with them (insisting they don’t wait for him) and lets him believe it’s Felix’s mother that’s doing it.

One day, Adrien doesn’t come back home alone.

There’s a small black blob on his shoulder that has yellow eyes and a surprisingly ferocious bite when Felix’s mother reaches for it.

“His name is Crép,” Adrien says, “short for crépuscule, not as in crêpe.”

Felix can’t help but snort at that, but stops in his tracks when he sees his cousin smile - really smile, and suddenly he realises it’s the first time it hasn’t been forced in the weeks he’s been with them.

“It’s the mark of an adult to name a pet the way a child would and call it clever,” Felix says, and this time, Adrien laughs.

Felix’s mother doesn’t try to convince Adrien to go back. Felix finds himself believing her when she tells him she has little more idea about Adrien’s reasons than Felix himself does (though that may well be false either because she is, in fact, finagling slightly, or because she doesn’t realise the extent of Felix’s own suspicions), but as August slowly comes to a close and the rentrée season begins, Felix begins to count the days down until she finally breaks and asks Adrien to talk. She must; there is no other way.

He isn’t disappointed.

“Adrien, darling,” she starts one afternoon over tea, thumb tracing the rim of her cup. Adrien puts his down immediately. “I realise there may be things you are yet unwilling to share, but it is my duty to ask you: what are your long-term plans? The school year is nearly here, and despite your humility I know that your dream isn’t to be a barista.”

Adrien smiles from where he’s sitting on the couch, then leans forward, propping his elbows on his knees. Felix starts tapping his fingers again.

His cousin turns his face towards the sun shining down on him from the window.

“Why, there are worse things than being a barista, Aunt Amelie. Don’t worry, though, I’ll be going back to Paris this weekend. I only stayed so long because I know London doesn’t usually enjoy this much sun during summer, but it all ends on Saturday, I think.”

“Climate change gets to us all in the end,” Felix says on reflex, succeeding in making his cousin chortle.

It’s a favour: Adrien gets to pretend his voice hadn’t broken at the end of his last sentence, and Felix gets to pretend that he can’t see a tear track on the side of his cousin’s face that’s turned away from Amelie.

The day Adrien has to catch the Eurostar back, the weather forecast’s prediction turns out wrong. They ride the DLR and then the Northern Line into St Pancras, but that doesn’t save them from getting wet between their home and Cutty Sark.

Felix’s mother looks towards the outpour outside as they emerge from the escalators inside the station. “I hope the weather in Paris is better. Have you called ahead? Is anyone picking you up?”

“I figured it’d be better if I had a conversation with my father in private first,” Adrien says as he takes advantage of the lack of pressed up bodies around them to shake off water from his umbrella. “Not that he’d come personally either way, but I would rather not face Nathalie and the Gorilla first. He doesn’t know I was with you, either.”

“Oh, let him know. I can handle him,” Amelie says, shaking her head.

Felix side-eyes her, but says nothing. She is not looking at him, and it feels like it’s on purpose.

Uncle Gabriel might figure it out regardless, Felix thinks as Adrien explains how he’ll throw away his ticket after he arrives at Gare du Nord, but takes solace in the knowledge that Adrien’s father may not be moved to act without conclusive evidence. Yet.

Felix’s mother shakes her head again, and he reaches out to tap down a few stray strands of hair. She shoots him a smile before looking back at Adrien and saying, “I hope you have a safe journey. Let me know you’ve returned safely.”

Adrien nods. “You will likely be informed anyway, but I will do my best to talk to you myself.”

He pauses, then adds, “Of course, you could use this as an excuse to visit. Nephew and cousin miraculously returned and all of that.”

“We will,” Amelie says at the same time as Felix does, “The school year is starting and my schedule is very busy.”

Adrien snorts and jostles his arm in a manner that is so bizarrely reminiscent of childhood that Felix does, in fact, take a step back.

“Come have a weekend-long study session with me, then,” he replies, and after a few more words of goodbye, Felix and his mother stand and watch him fade into the crowd as he heads towards the Eurostar queue.

“He’ll be alright,” Felix’s mother says, and, though he would never admit it, he knows that it is as effective a reassurance for her as it is for him.

This killed sentimonster theory?

When the theory about Sentimonster appeared (from the Ladybug episode if I remember correctly) I liked this theory. However, every character is a senti (Adrien, Felix even Kagami) no no. It's enough that you're a rich kid and you're Senti. AS*truc's posts implied that our Blonde boy was perfect. Honestly, I personally thought Adrien was the only Senti; Emilie was unable to have a child and created one based on her nephew. However, after seeing the fragment about Colt. baby he and Gabriel deserve the worst Father of the Year award

but how did i write it? What will I show you

Family Agreste/ Graham De Vanily ( Rewrite)

Emilie and Gabriel's past

Emilie and Amelie are members of the Graham De Vanily family. Who for centuries has been in the service of knights to the kings of England. There are legends that they are descendants of the knights of the round table (Sir Galahad or even Merlin (rumors of legend). Regardless of the lungs, the firstborn always took the title. Since the twins were born, Emilie was chosen as the eldest heir. (of the bloodline rings as their owner). and considering the parents (I named them Arthur and Mary would be easier) that Emilie would have an arranged marriage.

The arranged marriage was with the Fathon family, an American millionaire family (who they also came from British aristocracy) Emilie and Colt felt nothing for each other, but they were together with the body of the infected fiancée. Amelie, as a younger girl, had more freedom, but she loved her sister, which helped her. Emilie went to Paris to study where she met Gabriel Agrest (a young fashion designer).

Emilie fell in love with Gabriel and broke off the engagement by telling people she wanted to be an actress. To which Arthur and Mary protested. Emilie married Gabriel and took his surname. Amelie was forced to marry Colt. Both Amelie and Colt were unhappy with the turn of events. However, they had no choice. Colt treated Amelie as a friend and so did she: Agreste's marriage was freshly blooming. Emilie became an actress which gained more popularity thanks to Gabriel helping to recognize his fashion designs. She presented his compositions and clothes designs. Whether in interviews or in movies. Years passed and Gabriel founded the Agreste brand. Emilie wanted a child more and more, but the years passed and she couldn't have one. Gabriel still loved his wife and felt unhappy when he saw his distraught wife Emilie came to London where she went to visit her sister after many years. Amelie showed her son, Felix. Emilie loved him.

So Emilie remembered a certain book in the main estate and went there to get drunk. It was the Book of the Miraculous in Arurian times, and the Evil and Jewel of the Peacock and the Butterfly were found, she read that they had been left upstairs in the care of a great creature (yeti). Emilie decided to go on an expedition where she met an adventure seeker (archaeologist) and Nathalie agreed to help her with this expedition. Gabriel stayed in Paris. After a month of searching, the women found the miraculous. When they returned to the Agreste estate. Emilie created a child whom she named Adrien. Gabriel and Nathalie were shocked at what Emilie revealed to them the truth about the Graham and Miraculous lineage. Emilie asked Nathalie to stay and keep the secret. And Gabriel had a problem with his son, he couldn't love him. However, he was happy to see his wife happy with their "baby"

During the Agrestte family's visit to the Fathom family in London, Emilie revealed a secret about Adrien Amelie. Amelie was shocked that her sister, desperate for a child, used magic. That's what Colt heard. Not understanding the Miraculm thing, he knew magic was bad. He had it in his head that his children Felix and Diane were also products of magic. He confronted the Twins. accusing them of witchcraft. Amelie said their children were human, but did not deny the fact that her family was associated with magic (miraculous). And so the Fathom family broke. Colt was cold towards his children, even calling them monsters, and his wife witches. And the Agreste family began to flourish. they were happy. however, Emilie began to fall ill. Because the power to create a new life took away the Vital Forces.

A year before the events of the Series, Emily falls into a coma and Colt and Diane (who flew to America, for business disputes) died in a plane crash. I would more or less do that. Only one person is Senti, but prejudices and understatements have had a domino effect

Felinette Month 2020 - Day 19: Fallen Angel

Happy @felinettenovember! Can you guys guess what prompts I spend more than one day writing? I almost decided to try drawing the akumatized Felix before remembering that I haven’t drawn in nearly 10 years (maybe I would be better off painting it?) and wasn’t really good at people before that point... So I did this instead!

Almost 1900 words and if requested, this could have a continuation for some resolution later this year or early next year and/or potentially a piece of art to try showing Felix as an akuma and/or the object that inspired his form

Felix was close to flipping tables. Marinette had to be an angel from above with how she was handling being bullied by this Lila girl. How was it that even after the school was notified that Lila supposedly had a disease that made her compulsively lie but wasn’t antisocial personality disorder (?), the teacher refused to step in and help one of her star pupils? He shouldn’t be surprised. This was the same teacher that condoned Chloe’s defacing of Marinette’s present to count as them working together on it, even though Marinette had put actual effort into it. This was the same teacher that tried to convince Marinette to be a doormat, in the name of “setting a good example,” as though that has truly changed people that benefit from wronging others.

What he really couldn’t understand was how her friends weren’t more cautious about the liar. She had temporarily gotten Marinette expelled by claiming that she had not only cheated on a mock test, but also stolen the liar’s necklace, AND pushing the witch down the stairs. The class didn’t believe that it sounded like Marinette and YET after Marinette is returned due to the supposed uncontrollable lying diagnosis, they don’t question Lila's integrity? He couldn’t quite fathom why they wouldn’t take the things she said with a grain of salt after that very public and obvious set of lies, especially about Marinette.

And yet, here he was. Standing outside the classroom, waiting for a phone call from his driver, when he overhears the liar whispering to a few girls from the class. Marinette had been gone for an appointment the last period of school and apparently that wasn’t enough for Lila. He heard Alya exclaim, “That doesn’t really sound like Marinette…” and then a sad reply along the lines of how she knew Marinette was friends with all them but she couldn’t believe Marinette said that to her and just wanted to understand why by asking their closest friends. So on so on. Even with her verbalized doubt, it was clear from the tone she used that Alya believed it possible that Marinette had something to Lila, even if it wasn’t as severe as the liar had made it out to be. Felix didn’t need to be any closer to smell the fake crap Lila was spreading. He was sure it would have smelled over a mile away.

Rose exclaimed how she couldn’t believe how much Marinette was starting to act like Chloe and how they really needed to shake Marinette out of this. Alya volunteered to talk to her about it and encouraged them not to do anything crazy before then. It was the first time Felix felt a decent amount of respect towards Alya. Apparently she is starting to learn not to jump immediately to conclusions when it comes to Lila and Marinette. Unfortunately their other friends hadn’t gotten that much insight from the previous incidents and believed that Lila wouldn’t possibly exaggerate or make up anything and cause drama unnecessarily. Alya told the group that she had texted the girl and was going to head over to their place to hang out later that night.

Alya left, muttering how it sounded too extreme to be what Marinette had actually said. Felix had to give it to her, even if she had too much faith in the Italian, it was nice to see she wouldn’t fully discount her friend without any true evidence. Unfortunately with Alya’s departure, the voice of reason had left these girls and they were left with a snake. Felix decided to move slightly closer, just to keep an ear out for danger.

“I don’t think having a talk with her is really going to change Marinette’s mind. I mean she already knows about my health conditions and she’d rather discriminate against me than admit that I’m just trying to be friends. I reached out in good faith, painting her a picture, and she destroyed it and told me we could never be friends. It was just shockingly mean! She’s so nice to you guys so I thought this would help, especially since we like so much of the same stuff! I can’t help it if Adrien rejected her for me!”

Felix wanted to gag at that reasoning again. Marinette had worked to move on from Adrien long ago and especially hard when he had started dating Kagami over a year ago. She even started having tea and snacks with his girlfriend at least once a month, since Kagami didn’t get out much and Marinette didn’t want her to feel left out. As far as Felix knew, Marinette had long since given up on Adrien and was more focused on her personal projects than on boys, something her friends should have known by now.

“We know it’s not your fault and she should realize that too!” Rose tried to cheer up Lila.

“It’s so hard to imagine her destroying someone else’s art when she preaches about how people shouldn’t touch other’s work! Plus she has to know how much that sucks, after Chloe ruined her present for Ms. Bustier a few years ago…” Alix sounded angry enough to act impulsively and it didn’t sit well with Felix.

“To me, it just doesn’t seem like talking to her is going to be enough for her to really think about her actions, but you guys know her the best!” Lila managed to get a small amount of wavering into her voice, to convey hesitant worry and unsuccessfully attempted optimism through her small shrug. Felix may have thought that some of her lies should be relatively easy to dismiss but he had to admit that sometimes she could be a good actress.

“If we left her a message along with doing something, she wouldn’t ignore it right? Especially if she knows that if she ever does something like that again, we won’t stay friends with her…” Alix suggested. Felix felt his stomach sink. This was going bad but he couldn’t just walk in there right? He waited a moment longer to hear them start planning how they were going to ruin Marinette’s personal art project that she had been working on during her study hall, as it was sitting in a drying area of the art room. He had enough information to go talk to Damocles about what he had heard.

After hearing Felix’s concerns and hearing his stern insistence that this was actually at risk of happening, not just girl’s venting, Damocles accompanied him to the art room to check into the security of the projects inside. By the time the pair arrived though, they were too late. Nobody was in the room anymore, however Marinette’s project was beyond repair.

She had sculpted a human-like angel with arms raised with peace and joy captured remarkably on its face, an orb in its hands being presented to the sky like a holy gift. The wings had been formed into individual feathers and Marinette had just put the first layer of paint on it that day. The base color of the wings was a lovely shade of light pink, her dress had the first layer of white, the skin left a gray tone, with a small amount of darker gray and lighter gray added to certain areas to imitate how light would fall if emitted from the orb. The orb had a strange tone of light blue-green for the base. He had been enthusiastically anticipating her final painting work since she had finished the sculpting step.

Now the angel was missing a wing, the orb that had barely rested on the carved palms was separated from the hands, and the arms were no longer connected. He picked up the body of the statue gently before looking up at Damocles sadly.

“It’s too bad we didn’t get here sooner. I guess we will just have to check the school’s cameras to figure out who did this.” Damocles took a step towards the stand that the statue had previously been set on, picked up the note left on it, and read it out loud.

“‘This is for ruining Lila’s painting. You should’ve accepted her peace offering rather than blaming her for Adrien’s rejection and if you keep acting like this, you won’t have any more friends here.’--” he cleared his throat in displeased surprise, “-- I will need to take this note as evidence in this. Also, we should probably take some pictures of the damages before getting this cleaned up.”

Felix helped set the pieces of the statue on the table next to each other before the principal took out his cell phone and snapped a quick picture of that and of the note. Before the man could leave, Felix volunteered to clean up the classroom as he was sure Marinette would still want the pieces. He was also sure that Damocles would actually proceed with this investigation due to his involvement and firmness regarding the need to supply a punishment. While the punishment would not be sufficient, there would at least be some record of this incident.

Before sweeping up the tiny pieces that he didn’t expect her to care about, he sat down in a chair and held the body of the statue. His fingers ran over the one remaining wing despite the paint smearing on his skin, feeling the texture his classmate had managed for the feathers. It was an amazing work that would be difficult to replicate, if Marinette even decided it was worth doing again. Part of him hoped she would redo the remarkable piece. He felt anger bubbling just below the surface of his sadness, anger that the girls that were supposedly her friends would do this. Anger that their school was not secure for her. Anger that he wasn’t able to protect her, even having heard the plans. Grief over being too slow to protect her. Crushing sadness that she couldn’t trust her classmates, her supposed friends, to even ask her about a situation before trusting another’s words about her. Someone that had very publicly lied to get her suspended just the last school year. He was so busy with his thoughts and the statue that he missed the purple butterfly coming towards him until it settled into the statue.

“Hello Ange Déchu. I am Hawk Moth. The people around you pass judgement on the innocent and work on behalf of the wicked. It must be frustrating to watch them work to break the people you care about. I will give you the power to understand people’s intentions and apply your chosen consequences on them so you can protect the ones you love. In exchange you would give me Ladybug and Chat Noir’s miraculous.”

In this akumatized form, he could not only protect Marinette but also help her get revenge on the manipulative witch. She would be his queen, his direction, and she would be able to decide how she wanted to apply justice.

“Yes Hawk Moth. I will deal out Marinette’s justice and get the miraculous for you.” The akumatized Felix, called Fallen Angel, unfurled his black wings and pushed off the ground to fly to Marinette’s side. He would protect her first and foremost. Then they would deal with the witch and her flying monkeys however she saw fit.

Two days earlier, on Monday:

Felix had locked himself in a bathroom stall, seconds from breaking down. He couldn’t breath, throat constricting with a scream he’d successfully kept in for over a year now. Bordeaux was gone, as far from him as legally possible, and yet he’d found a way to watch him like a hawk, wherever he was. Felix buried his face in his hands, as if they could shield him from the scornful gaze he felt on him. He couldn’t do this, couldn’t face him, couldn’t let Rossi-

“Felix!”, a voice whispered from behind him and he jumped up. A ridiculously oversized pair of glasses was visible through the window beneath the ceiling. Attached to it was an obviously fake nose, and behind it glistened the most beautiful eyes Felix had ever seen.

“Marinette!”, he almost sobbed as his savior pushed herself through the window. Why was she wearing a bikers helmet? And was that a cape?

“It’s Marino!”, she grumbled, faking a lower voice. “I’m a boy! Which is why I am able to, you know. Get into the boy’s bathroom.”

“What?”, Felix frowned, the realized. “Oh! Uh, we’re alone, Marc checked. But Lila’s waiting outside the door, so don’t be so loud.”

“You mean I dressed up for nothing?! Aw, man!”

With a groan, she pulled the helmet off. He couldn’t resist but straighten the tangled strands (helmet hair, Kagami had told him during their last chess match). Marinette’s hair was so soft!

He shook his head, focusing on the matter at hand.

“I need your help!”

“I sure hope so. I’d be hella mad if I crawled through that window for nothing.”, she deadpanned, then took of the glasses and turned serious. “What happened? Marc only told me you barricaded yourself in here and wanted to see me. He thinks you’re having a heart attack! Or that you...”

She blushed, and Felix cursed Marc’s big mouth. If he’d said anything about confessing or the likes of that, he was a dead man!

“N-nevermind. Now tell me what’s up.”

“Lila’s blackmailing me!”, he hissed, panic starting to rise up in him again. “She’s found my father, who hates my guts, and now they’re working together! I can’t- Marinette, I don’t know- I don’t want-“

“Shshsh, sh! It’s alright!”, she whispered when he started to lose control again, pressing her hand over his mouth. “Don’t get too loud, remember? Everything’s going to be fine, I promise. Just... breathe, okay? Slowly.”

He did as told. His hands were still trembling, but his thoughts became clearer again. That, and the fact that Marinette was very, very close, lead him to two realizations.

One: No matter what was going to happen, Marinette would be there for him.

Two: If she didn’t take her hand from his mouth very quickly, he’d do something very stupid that involved both their hands and mouths, but in an entirely different context.

Focus!

“René Bordeaux is my father.”, he tried to set things straight. “He’s working as chief editor at TV1, and he’s the producer of this goddamn contest. He intercepted your report and gave it to Rossi, who filmed herself mimicking everything you did and likely managed to make it look professional. If I don’t cater to her every whim, Bordeaux will publish both videos and proof with some stupid, faked time stamp that hers is the original. He’ll frame you as a copycat.”

“I’d be ruined.”, she breathed in shock. “That would be game over for me!”

He nodded.

“I’m playing along for now, but I don’t know how long I can keep this up. I’d do everything for you, Marinette, you know that, but my father...”

He swallowed.

“He scares me. I can’t let him control me like this!”

“I know.”, Marinette assured him, taking his face in both her hands. “Felix, I know. We’ll find a solution, I promise.”

“How?”, he whispered. He knew Marinette, knew that she could make the impossible a reality by sheer willpower as it seemed, but he couldn’t fathom a way she could get him out of this.

“We’ll take this slow.”, Marinette ordered. Her eyes had that calculated shine he loved so much and he calmed a bit. “First, we’ll have to keep Lila placated.”

“She wants me to humiliate you in front the class. I’m supposed to become her boyfriend, Marinette.”

He shivered in disgust.

“Her boyfriend!”

“Ew.”

“Exactly!”

Marinette tapped her chin.

“But that’s a good thing, actually. The humiliation part, I mean, not you being her boyfriend. She wants me to suffer, and she’s so convinced of her own brilliance that she’ll buy any suffering I can show. She’s desperate to win, desperate to believe she won. Get it?”

“I’ll play along. You’ll act all hurt, and then Lila won’t pay any attention to you.”, he concluded. “Then what? Rossi’s one thing, but Bordeaux-“

“What does he get out of all of this?”

He blinked, his mind racing.

“I... I don’t know. He hates me, I don’t know what he wants with me.”

His eyes widened.

“My mother! He’s obsessed with her, maybe he needs me to have his sick kind of reunion with her.”

“That’s a start.”, she nodded. “Any idea what he’ll do next?”

“Hm.”

His father was a bastard, but he was predictable. He was flashy. Arrogant. A one-man show. As Felix knew him, he’d want to meet him in person to torment him. Bordeaux knew how his son felt about him. And since he wanted to display his power over him, he likely wanted that meeting on his terms, his ground.

“He’ll make Rossi deliver me to him.”, Felix deducted. “Either to his home or his work place. Not the public, where we could be seen. No, and not his home either! That would give me access to something personal, and he doesn’t want me too close.”

He nodded.

“TV1. That’s where he’ll meet me.”

“The awards show.”, Marinette realized. “That way no one will bat an eye if two students stroll through the building. He’ll wait at the TV1 tower, during the awards show.”

“We have time and place.”, Felix summed up. “But the tower is huge! There’s a million places he could-“

“I’ll get us the outlay of the building.”, she interrupted him. “I can come and go as I please, I babysit Nadja Chamack’s daughter. Oh! Nadja Chamack!”

She clapped her hands.

“I have an idea. Trust me, Felix, everything will be alright.”

Lila’s obsession with Felix turned out to be useful. She was so fixated on him, she didn’t notice how Marinette quietly took Alya aside.

“She’s lying.”, Marinette announced without any further intro. Alya flinched, but didn’t roll her eyes like she would’ve done a week before.

“Why do you think that?”

“I’ve seen Ladybug yell at her in the park, on her first day. Lila threatened me when I confronted her. And just now, Felix asked for my help because she’s blackmailing him.”

Alya opened her mouth, but Marinette was faster.

“No, you’re going to listen to me now. You’ve known me for what feels like forever, and I trust you. That’s why I am telling you this. Lila is manipulating anyone, and I won’t let her get away with it. But I need your help.”

She took Alya’s hand.

“Alya, I’m begging you to trust me! Please, believe in me just this once. If we don’t prove Lila’s a liar, she’ll hurt Felix and I can’t let that happen. Please, Alya. Please!”

Alya’s gaze trembled and she gulped.

“Marinette, Lila can’t... I... She...”

Her eyes closed and she took a deep breath, calming her mind. When she opened them again, they were hard with resolve.

“Okay.”, she said, and Marinette sighed in relief. “I trust you. Tell me what to do.”

Convincing Max to help them was a lot easier. She had intercepted him before class, to ask for his help.

“Max, wait!”, she asked and pulled him aside before he could reach the door. “I need to talk to you. We need your-“

“I’m in.”

She blinked, taken aback.

“W-What?”

The computer ace pushed his glasses up and crossed his arms.

“I said I’m in. Whatever it is you’re planning, I’ll help you.”

“How do you know I’m-“

“Oh please.”, Max sighed. “I’m not blind. Everyone can see how Felix looks at you, and how he looks at Lila, who has revealed herself to be more than shady. There’s no way he’s playing lovebirds with her on his own volition, and, knowing you, you will not be complacent. So I’ll help you.”

“Me too!”, Kim’s voice seconded and Marinette turned around. He, Nathaniel and Alix has walked up to them out of nowhere.

“Yeah!”, Nathaniel agreed. “Marc told me Felix had a breakdown because of Lila. I mean, the guy’s creeping me out but no one messes with my boyfriend’s friends!”

“Ditto!”

Marinette looked at them, heady with an elevating mixture of joy, pride and relief. They were believing her. They had chosen her!

My friends have my back!

“Madame Chamack!”, Marinette greeted the reporter when she came to pick up Manon. “Do you have a second?”

“Of course!”, she replied, hugging her daughter. “What is it?”

“I have a story for you.”, Marinette announced, praying to Tikki for good luck. “About your superior, René Bordeaux.”

Nadia’s eyes widened and she took out her phone. One could get the impression she didn’t like her boss.

“Do tell. A story?”

She nodded.

“But to bust him, I’ll need your help.”

Nadja looked at her with a calculating interest.

“Well,” she said. “I trust you with my daughters wellbeing. It would be hypocritical not to trust you with this.

She smiled adventurously.

“What do you need?”

“This is the TV1 tower.”, Marinette explained in the commanding officer voice she’d learned from military movies. Additionally to the ones she’d already convinced, Alya had brought Juleka and Rose to Marinette’s place, and Nino had shown up with Ivan and Mylène. How Chloé and Sabrina had gotten in, nobody knew, but they sure weren’t going to send them away.

“Wait, where’s Adrien?”, Nino asked and reached for his phone, but Marinette slapped it out of his hand as if it might explode.

“NOT COMING!”, she hissed, before catching herself. “And you can’t tell him anything!”

“But...”, he faltered, “why?”

She sighed. Nino adored his best friend, he wouldn’t like the truth.

“You’ll see when everything’s over.”, she simply said and straightened.

“Back to the plan!”

She snapped her ruler against the blueprint she’d hung over her schedule. (It did have its advantages to have a yo-yo with unlimited scanning abilities.)

“This is the TV1 tower,” she repeated, “and this is the floor the Awards are going to be filmed on. It’s a live show, so Lila will have to be present in the studio. There’s only a few small time windows she could deliver Felix to his father.”

She stepped aside, revealing a time schedule she’d gotten from Nadja Chamack.

“The most likely time will be around 8.40 o’clock in the evening, during the first ad break. It only lasts ten minutes, which limits the places she could go to.”

She pointed to a couple of rooms on the layout of the floor.

“The way to Bordeaux’s office takes five minutes running, which means it would be impossible to get there, talk, and return in time. No, the location of the meeting has to be on the same floor. It’s either going to be Jagged Stones studio, the studio for the news, or this empty recording room.”

Rose raised his arm and she pointed her ruler at him.

“Yes?”

“The recording studio is out!”, she informed, proud that she could help. “We wanted to tell you already, but didn’t have the time yet. Kitty Section has gotten permission to use it this weekend, but there was a technical problem with the power, so we had to reschedule.”

Ivan nodded.

“No one’s allowed to enter during the repairs.”

“And scratch the news channel as well!”, Nathaniel chimed in. “Mireille told Aurore who told Marc who told me that they have to prepare everything for the 9 o’clock special. They’re doing a documentary on cloud formations or something.”

Marinette beamed.

“Perfect! Jagged’s studio, then. I can get us in!”

She pointed at Max and Nino.

“Here comes your part: As the tech savvy’s of our task force, you’ll take care of the cameras. We don’t know where Bordeaux will stand, so-“

“Actually, we do!”, Alix said smugly. “We’ll use the Rebellious-Kid strategy.”

Marinette leaned her head to the side.

“Eh?”

“It’s what I use on my dad when I don’t want him snoopin’ around in my room. We’ll make everything messy, with cables and equipment lying around - except for one spot in the middle and the way up to it.”

The skater blew her bangs out of her face and grinned.

“We’ll guide them right into the spotlight.”

“Brilliant!”, Marinette cheered, accidentally hitting Alya with the ruler. “Oh, sorry.”

Her best friend sighed exasperated, but smiled.

“So, we have them in the spotlight.”, she repeated. “Then what? How do we make them spill the beans?”

Marinette smirked.

“Believe me, they’ll do it all on their own. It’s the same as Bob Roth; it worked then, it’ll work now. And if they missed something to gloat about, Felix will subtly guide them to the right topic.”

“Quick question, though.”, Mylène spoke up. Her hands were fidgeting nervously. “Not that I don’t trust you - I do! - and if you need our help, we’ll be there. But, uhm. Isn’t filming them without their consent... illegal?”

Chloé chuckled, drawing the attention to her.

“Oh please. If it brings that annoying liar down, I’ll hire every lawyer in Paris to cover us.”

She sighed.

“But if it calms you, that won’t be necessary. The only legal threat is Bordeaux, and as a public figure, he’s basically public domain. Lie-la won’t have enough money to out-sue me.”

“Uh, thanks Chloé!”, Marinette said hesitantly, not sure if it was a good idea to encourage her. “But there’s a way to prevent a law suit.”

She patted Alya on the shoulder.

“Lila wants a platform where she can boast about herself, and Miss Ladyblog here can give that to her. In return, Lila will have to sign a declaration of consent. Got it?”

Alya gave her a thumbs up.

“Copy that.”

“What’s the rest of us supposed to do?”, Kim urged them on and Sabrina nodded impatiently. “We want to help as well!”

“I need you to suck up to Lila.”

A collective groan went through the room.

“Stop whining!”, Chloé ordered. “If you start avoiding her all of a sudden, she’ll know we’re onto her!”

“Easy for you to say!”, Alix complained. “You’ve been glaring at her since the beginning, you won’t have to start being nice now!”

“So? That sounds like a you-problem!”

“Guys! Chill. Let the Lady speak.”

Marinette sighed.

“Thanks, Nino. I know you don’t like this, but it’s vital to our mission that we keep Lila in the dark!”

“I don’t even like Felix, and now I gotta cuddle with someone Marinette calls a liar for him.”, Kim mumbled and Alix shoved him.

“Shut up. Ya wanna leave him at his old man’s mercy? That guy’s an abuser, judging by what Mari told us!”

“‘Course not.”, the jock gave in immediately. “Didn’t mean it like that.”

“Then we have a plan!”, Marinette concluded proudly and slapped her ruler on the table. “Let’s take some cookies from downstairs and get to work!”

Everyone cheered.

“Marinette, you know I’d give you the keys to my jet if you asked.”, Jagged assured her nervously. “Well, and if you were old enough to fly it. But this does seem a bit much.”

He was looking around in the studio, where her classmates were scurrying around like a plague of mice. They were ripping cables out of plugs, repositioning cameras and microphones, and Kim was obviously having the time of his life with a promo guitar. Marinette had to admit, they were being a bit too... enthusiastic.

“We’ll clean everything up again, I promise.”, she said, just when Chloé walked past them, carrying another black curtain for the walls.

“It’s a revenge project!”, she huffed out, overly exhausted from carrying a single piece of fabric. “Lila’s blackmailing Marinette and stealing her work. Also, she lied to me about Ladybug.”

Her grin was malicious.

“So now we’re bringing her down!”

Jagged Stone froze. Marinette would swear to the end of times she saw his eyes glow.

“Gimme that!”, he ordered Kim and snatched the Promo guitar right out of his hands. “Rock’n’Roll!”

With that, he crashed the instrument on the ground, cackling like a maniac.

“Let’s freaking demolish this place! Penny, cancel my appointments for the day! We’re raining anarchy on that whatever-her-name-was!”

Penny sighed heavily.

“There goes movie night.”

Marinette patted her on the back, caught between pride and regret. Maybe bringing Jagged together with the force of chaos that were her classmates hadn’t been such a good idea.

Marinette was nervous. She believed in her friends, and she trusted in her own capabilities. The plan was good! It was basically foolproof, as long as no one let something slip.

Still. When she arrived at the TV1 tower, wearing her self made beret and a matching outfit, she was itchy with fear.

“You can do this, Marinette.”, Tikki whispered from her hiding place. “Don’t lose face now!”

She nodded. If Lila caught wind of her odd behavior, she’d get suspicious. Marinette had to get a grip on herself. Felix was counting on her!

And, on a more selfish note, she definitely couldn’t handle seeing him with Lila anymore. The girl was all over him, as if he were some sort of pet or toy! While Marinette had known she’d make Felix say something hurtful to Marinette, back in class, she still hadn’t expected it to... hurt. Stupid of her, but she couldn’t turn the feeling off. Seeing Lila bill and coo with Felix just made her want to puke.

She breathed deeply, trying to calm herself. The others were in the studio already, where the interviews would be filmed. They couldn’t afford to be seen together unless absolutely necessary, to keep Lila in the dark. The halls were mostly empty now, just a few TA’s running around to carry out last minute orders. She would use the time alone to steady herself before joining the audience in-

“Woaaaah!”, she yelped. Her foot had missed a step and sent her tumbling down the stairs, where a pair of arms caught her just in time.

“Marinette?”, a familiar voice asked in surprise and she froze. Hectically, she stood up and put some distance between herself and her savior. (Pah! Savior, how ridiculous.)

“Adrien”, she said coldly and straightened her clothes. The boy winced at the cruel sound to his name.

“Marinette, I wanted to talk to you.”, he hurried to say. “I know you were avoiding me, but I wanted to say that I’m-“

“We’re past apologies now.”, she brushed him off and turned to leave. “And you should have taken the hint. I’m done waiting for you to grow a spine.”

“Please”, he insisted and grabbed her elbow, forcing her to stop. “Marinette, I’m sorry for what you’re going through. And I understand that you’re hurt, I really do. Lila’s lies are affecting me as well.”

“Oh, poor Adrien.”, she scoffed. “His life in shambles because of lies he himself spread. Throw your pity party elsewhere.”

“Don’t do this, Marinette.”, he whispered and she hesitated. He sounded... terrified. “Please don’t push me away. I... I don’t want to be alone again.”

She knew his home. Knew his broken family, his solitude in the golden cage Gabriel Agreste had built him. So against her instinct, she turned around again to hear him out.

“Keep this quick, will you?”, she mumbled and he lightened up.

“Marinette, I thought a lot about you lately,” Adrien said. A while back, these words would’ve meant everything to her. Now, she only felt numb. “And about how things used to be.”

He took something out of his pocket and showed it to her. The colorful beads of the Lucky Charm she’d given him made his hand seem pale in comparison.

“I know you like Felix a lot. And it wasn’t my place to tell you to push him away. But I do want our friendship to be like it used to be, when you gave me your lucky charm. It means a lot to me, and so do you!”

He smiled.

“I... I hoped that we could go back to that, somehow. Now that the whole Felix thing has resolved itself on its own.”

Resolved on its own?! Not only had Adrien failed to realize that Felix had never been the problem, but now he called Lila’s obsession with him a solution?!

“Look,” she said, trying to hide her annoyance. “I get that you don’t want to be left behind. But you can’t... What are you staring at?!”

Adrien jumped, snapping out of his fixation. The lucky charm fell out of his hand and clattered to the ground. He had glared at her chest in disbelief, as if hypnotized. No, not at my chest, Marinette realized when she grasped for her collar. Her necklace had slipped out when she’d fallen down the stairs, and the Miraculous was out in the open. She closed her hand around it out of reflex, pulling away when Adrien raised his hand to touch it.

“Marinette...”, he murmured, eyes fixed on her hand. “Is that...?”

He looked up to her face, his gaze unreadable.

“That’s a very pretty pendant.”, he said slowly, with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. His voice was devoid of emotion, sending chills up her spine. “Would you mind if I borrowed it for a second? I’d like to take a closer look.”

Marinette stumbled back, Adrien followed the movement.

“Where did you get it?”, he asked in a tone that was far too friendly for his expression. “Did you make it yourself? Or was it... a gift, perhaps?”

She swallowed, her back hitting the wall.

“I-I need to go!”

Her voice was thin and threatening to break. Adrien’s scarily hollow smile widened.

“It won’t take long.”

He reached for the ring.

“Just give it to me for a moment. And then you can go to the others.”

Her mind was screaming at her to run, but she was cornered. Adrien’s gaze was a dangerous kind of hungry.

“Just...”

His hand came closer.

“...a quick...”

The green of his eyes was hidden by the blackness of his blown wide pupils.

“...look.”

His fingers touched her hand, and suddenly her blood seemed to be replaced with pure, crackling electricity.

“No!”, she shouted and slapped his hand away. Muscle memory kicked in and she gave him a shove, hooking her foot behind his knee and sending him onto the floor. “Don’t touch me!”

Her fingers were clutching the ring as if her life depended on it and she backed away from the groaning boy on the floor.

“You made your choice!”, she yelled at him. “You decided what was more important to you! It was right versus easy, and you picked the wrong side!”

She was breathing heavily, realizing she had been seconds from losing the Black Cat. Maybe he was more observant than she knew, or maybe he had read something in his father’s book, but Adrien knew the truth about the ring.

He had wanted to take it from her.

He had cornered her, and wanted to take it from her.

“I have no idea what’s wrong with you!”, she hurled at him when he tried to get up. “And I don’t care about it anymore! Anything that happens now is your own fault, and if the others turn your back on you for lying to their faces - then because you turned your back on them first! I am done with you, Agreste!”

Adrien held his shoulder, aching from where it had cushioned his fall. His eyes were back to their usual green, but she took another step back all the same.

“The- The others?”, he panted. “But why would... I... I didn’t mean to... Wait.”

He looked at her, fear flashing in his eyes.

“Marinette.”

She gulped when she noticed she might have said too much.

“What did you do?”

There was no answer for him. Marinette turned on her heel and ran.

By the time the interviews were over, Marinette’s pulse had slowed to its normal rate again. The ring rested safely beneath her shirt, and she forced herself not to think about Adrien. For now, her attention was needed elsewhere.

“Okay, go go go!”, she hurried her classmates as soon as Lila had left the studio and the ads began. They only had a few minutes to get to their places. Felix, who had been informed of their plans by Marc in the boy’s bathroom, would buy them time by arguing with Lila. While they were talking in the main corridor, Marinette and the others would sneak out through the back door, slip into Jagged’s studio and hide behind the curtains they had hung up. Nadja Chamack opened the door for them.

“This better pay off!”, she muttered under her breath and gestured to the back. “Everything’s ready. Your friends have set up the main camera, and my Camera man Charles and I will film from our hiding place.”

She pointed at Max.

“Green guy’s taking care of the live stream. Everyone in Paris will see what’s happening.”

Marinette nodded.

“You won’t be disappointed.”, she promised and pulled the curtains closed.

“Now we only have to wait.”
