Druidry vs Witchcraft

There are several historical things that actually draw distinctions between Druidry & Witchcraft. Here are the main key distinctions:

Witchcraft as a spiritual path focuses on the reverence of lunar cycles in reference to Feminine mysteries, which focuses on a system of natural Elements of Earth, Air, Fire & Water. This follows the ad quadrulum school of Sacred Geometry. Druidry is solar oriented focusing solely on triplicities & triads, as its Sacred Geometry follows the ad triangulum school.

Given Witchcraft is feminine oriented, it focuses mainly on feminine mysteries such as lunar phases. Because of this the rites of Witchcraft are celebrated at night. Druidry is the exact opposite: masculine & solar oriented, so the rites of Druidry are celebrated during the day. Tho nowadays we Druids also honor the Lunar alongside the Solar & Telluric.

Druidry has 4 Holy Days, called Albans, which are celebrated at the solstices & equinoxes. It is up to the individual Druid whether or not they choose to celebrate the Fire Festivals (cross quarters). Witchcraft has 8 Holy Days called Sabbats. This comes from the 15th century accusations of Witches worshipping Satan (some do but not all) and using Flying Ointment. Many Trad Crafters still use Flying Ointment during Sabbatic rites.

Druidry, like Witchcraft, has 3 Degrees called "Grades." These are Bard, Ovate, & Druid. However, unlike Witchcraft our Grades work differently. Witchcraft's Degrees work like a Priesthood. Witches train with a High Priest/High Priestess of their Tradition/Coven slowly becoming High Priest/ess themselves. Druidry's Grades work like a classical education. The Bardic Arts of Arithmetic, Rhetoric, Fine Arts, Music, Poetry, & Storytelling form the base foundation of Druidry. Ovatic training is similar to Witches in that Ovates study things like wortcunning (herbalism), gemstone properties, divination, oracular prophecy, lunar phases, meteorological patterns, etc.

Witch translates from Old English (wicce/wica) as "Wise One." Druid translates from Welsh (Derwydd) as "Knower of the Oak." In Druidry, the Oak is revered as the symbol of life & the Mysteries; a doorway between Earth & Faerie. So a Druid is/was responsible for keeping the Mysteries sacred. Druids are king-makers (presiding over politics), judges, executioners, ritual liturgists, & Grove leaders. Similar in function to a Druid is a Witch High Priestess minus the king-maker & executioner aspects.

I don't use others' opinions on how I choose my character names, sorry, but it likely won't be changed as I've already begun using it in the initial writings of the book.

Second, it's not stupid and not even supposed to be 'realistic' (whatever that means). It's a fantasy book about superpowers. What about that seems 'realistic'? If anything giving a character an unusual or uncommon name is usually encouraged in fantasy books.

Third, Aella's name is one of many names in the book that are unusual or uncommon names that would be considered 'odd', like Cerys, Emrys, Aderyn, and Ailey.

Merlyn: the Wildman of the Woods

Master Merlyn, the all powerful Wizard of history whose magick is highly coveted, is actually Myrddhin & is a Welsh God. He is the Lord of Nature, Poetry, Smithcraft, Healing, Knowledge, & Magick. He historically was a Pheryllt Druid & part of the original Dragon Priesthood (a fact few know about because of biased opinions no one asked for). He is MUCH older than the legends make him out to be! Since he is the Lord of Nature he is the God of Druidry (Art of the Oak Knower), and laid down the laws that govern how magick works. The British, Gaulish, & Gaelic Druids gathered at Stonehenge every turn of the season & paid homage to "a God of poetry, magick, & knowledge," and did the same thing upon the discovery of Mistletoe upon an Oak (a very sacred occurrence that was revered with ceremony & a golden sickle). This God was discovered to actually be Myrddhin. He is the Wildman of the Woods who rules over Madness, Revelry, & Liberation, a Title given to him after earning it upon his retreat into the woods after war to reconnect with the Old Gods & rediscover his magick. He is Nature, & we work with Nature as well as enjoy natural pleasures. We are of Merlyn & therefore are Merlyneans. His Staff is the Torch of Knowledge which he uses to light the way through the Shadow into the Light. His Mark is the Faeryblood given to His people being born of Faerie & therefore Changelings. Master Merlyn is the Gnaddr (pronounced NAH-thare) known in our Tradition as the original Dragon-Derwyd. It was He who had the prophecy of the Reg & White Dragons of Pendragon, which represents His connection to the Pheryllt Priesthood. This Draconic association of the Druids was lost long ago, but has always been remembered by the Welsh Bards who have always called Druids "Adders." (This would make that legend of St Patrick much more gruesome) What the Devil/Man In Black is to Traditional Witches, Master Merlyn is to Merlyneans.

If you reverse engineer the name of Merlyn's home, Carmarthen, from it's original name of Caer Myrddhin in Welsh, you eventually get Moridunum. It means "Sea-Fortress" and refers to an ancient name for Great Britain called Albion. This points to the Arthurian side of Master Merlyn. Do the same exact reverse engineering using the rules of the Welsh language with the name Myrddhin & you come up with Moridunos, meaning "He of the Sea-Fortress." This comes up with his Title as the Fortress of Albion. This bit of info comes from John Michael Greer's "The Mysteries of Merlin."

Master Merlyn's Wizardry is probably the most coveted in history due to how powerful he is. I am truly honored to be taught by Master Merlyn, and therefore his child: a Merlynean Wizard. I am a sworn Guardian of the Grimoire of Merlin, and some of the most sought after spells & incantations in history. For this reason the magickal community is after me & often tries to burn me at the stake (VERY hypocritical BTW! But if the world is after me then I take it as a compliment!). Merlyn isn't just an idea or a legend that unites us all, He is our deity & our father, the Father of Faeryblood. He is a Pheryllt Druid & the most powerful Wizard who ever lived.

Research on Druids

For years now I have been researching the ways & myths of my ancestors, the Druids. Trying to think outside of the box like I normally do. Everything from the Ogham to the why of the sacredness of the Oak to the true meaning of Celtic Knots. I have recently had several breakthroughs that make complete sense to me! Okay, so I figured out that the Ogham contains all of the wisdom of the Druids. Each Ogham few contains a piece of wisdom of Celtic mythology. That the Celtic Gods are the intelligences of the Ogham as in the spiritual Guardians of this writing system. The Oak is sacred because it is a metaphor for genetic lineage from the Star-Dragons (Elves, Dragons, & Fairies). A tree contains within its seeds the genetic code of all future generations, just like the egg & sperm of every animal on the planet. What if this is the actual meaning of the Doctrine of the Transmigration of Souls? The basic Celtic Knot looks like a DNA strand or some kind of genetic code. Taking this & the Druidic connection to Draconic lineage into consideration, it would make sense that the Celts used Celtic Knotwork to describe their genetic knowledge via storytelling. WHAT IF the Druids were genetic geniuses descended from Dragon Priests of some ancient land? WHAT IF they used trees as a metaphor for this genetic knowledge? We still don't know everything about the Druids given that they never wrote anything down. Druid means "to know the Oak" and IF the Oak is a metaphor for genetic draconic lineage, then that would mean the Druids were masters of the Dragon Legacy. That they were more akin to warrior-like Dragon Priests with draconic powers that how modern Druids do it nowadays. I mean, there IS an awful lot of fire & water that is a part of Druidic mythology. Fire being the Dragon's Breath, and Water being the womb. Keep in mind that this is merely speculation & simply how my mind thinks. I'm well aware of how the myths are traditionally interpreted, but I'm just throwing some new ideas & possibilities out there :)

I am classically trained in a magickal Druidic tradition called An Wyn Emrys, and have been since I was 10. I am also half Nobyndar Elf, half human by genetics. I believe in Evolution & reincarnation. My magick is rooted in Storytelling via the Ogham, which is I specialize in Wandulurgy & Apothekurgy. In ancient Druidic lore, a Staff was dual purpose. what do you mean different types of twins?

Cerys and Emrys are heteropaternal twins, they have different fathers. Euna and Ezra are fraternal twins. Aleric and Aleron are identical twins. Dakota and Sage are mirror twins. And Idalia and Aderyn are a term called heteromaternal twins that I've made for this book since superpowers are involved.

Essentially, they have the same dad but different mothers but their mothers are the same person. Their moms are named Serafim (Idalia's mother) and Allisyn (Aderyn's mother) but Serafim and Allisyn are split from the same person (Seryn).

Seryn's superpower is to split herself into two people (Allisyn and Serafim), which she split during the conception process and could no longer recombine after both halves were far enough in that the pregnancies had established themselves.
