the spice cupboard project continues…
i need to order some custom labels for a few of my spices (for those curious, from the top shelf down, left to right: whole allspice berries, amchoor, black salt, celery seed, dukkah, kasoori methi/fenugreek leaves, pink peppercorns, and white peppercorns)
i’m also considering separating out the whole spices and storing those elsewhere, because i am still missing some powdered spices that i regularly use. may even do the same for dried herbs, because i’m missing a few of those too.
that said, it’s still wildly satisfying to have all these jars laid out like this 🙌🙌🙌

These boys, these girls, they were gentle hands and lilting voices and good company when Kate knew she was resigning herself to a future without.
But that is not the point, not now.
The point is there is something warm at the back of her neck, and be it breath or breeze, it reminds her of home.
She inhales deeply, expecting those smells of India, but what greets her is not the rich, sensual fragrance of jasmine or the musk of marigold, but the fragile, sweet scent of wisteria. Too quickly, the moment finds her, and she feels every second of it in the weight of the arm around her waist.
It’s Anthony’s eyes, Anthony’s mouth, Anthony’s snarl and Anthony’s surrender. It’s him between her legs, breath against her cunt, eating from her fruitful vine until he was wet and sated with the juice of her, his hands at the barrier of her corset, freeing every earthly inch of her until she turned her mother nature to his heat, her body a flower to the sun of him, basking in warmth, welcoming the day.
Now, her chest pulses with it, feels the burn, the chafe, and her eyes blink open and she’s relieved it’s still night, relieved that the moon hangs over them, only a half-cut thing, luminous and bright, but with it comes the reality of this night, with it comes the waking, with it comes Edwina, her light in the darkest of skies, the mover of the tide, and god, what has she done?
Behind her, Anthony shifts, his chest against her back, his skin searing but not enough, for where she should recoil, she chases, and that makes something in her stutter. Her heart, her head, the flesh she’s let lead her. She shifts forwards, the hard ground of the gazebo cold even through the blanket Anthony had laid down for them, and her insides are twisting, her gut, her heart, and she cannot look back at him. She needs to leave, she needs to steal away and write this night out of her memory, needs to make him believe that this demon has been cast out of them, and he can shine all his light and warmth on her sister.
Resolute, she inches forwards, breath hitching when Anthony’s arm tightens around her, his hand turning, searching for her hip, her breast, the dip of her waist, and it’s then or never, for if he gets his grip on her, she’s not sure how she could let herself go. She moves quickly, delicately, sliding out from beneath his arm and letting him roll forwards, and she still won’t look back, can’t, can barely think as she finds her petticoats, her gown, redressing with shaking hands and trying to ignore the tackiness between her legs.
She steps out, takes a breath, and she can’t help herself.
She looks back.
In the blankets on the gazebo floor, Anthony is turned on his stomach, his shoulders broad and freckled, his eyes closed but his face open in that way it never is, and he looks as young as Kate feels old, and it opens like a crater in this earth of her, because he is not India, but that doesn’t stop the overwhelming feeling of home.
Tearing her gaze away, she stumbles out of the gazebo, the gardens buzzing with cicadas, the air cool with the night, and she looks up. Seeks the moon’s steady guidance, but she finds not the purpose or the warmth it usually offers her, for she has betrayed it, and the moon slips behind a cloud like Kate had slipped out of her dress last night, and there is nothing left but to run.
