Tron-spiration: the otherworldly fashion of Erté
So, seeing as people enjoyed my post about the influence of Tron 1982 on Alexander McQueen, I figured I should do some more posts about costume history and Tron.
So...
Erté.
Even if you are unfamiliar with the man, you have almost certainly been exposed to his art in some way or other. The work of graphic artist and designer Romain de Tirtoff, known by the French pronunciation of his initials "R T", left an indelible mark on our perception of the 1920s Art Deco period.
I happen to think it also left a mark on the costuming of the Tron 1982 movie, be it less directly.
Let me illustrate:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This one may just be my favorite example, actually. Many thanks -or perhaps apologies- to @greetingsprogram1982 for putting this datapusher lady on my dash and sparking this post!)
Now, there are more parallels to be drawn (see below), but I don't think the work of Erté was necessarily a direct influence on Tron.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rather, I feel like Erté often drew characters and costumes that wouldn't feel out of place decked out in circuits on the ENCOM system, with their graphic lines, sweeping drapery and extravagant headdresses. Mostly designed for the stage, Erté's fashion embodies a sense of being intended for another dimension entirely. His work is a visual fantasy of a different world; graphic, luscious, permissive, and dripping in the technological optimism of Art Deco and the 1920s. And well... isn't that a mindset quite close to the vibe of Tron?
In other words, I can easily see cultural osmosis pulling the 1982 concept artists to similar stylistic ideas...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I realize most of the examples I have shown are fairly muted in color, which was not a deliberate choice! Erté has more to offer than that. Tell me honestly that you can't see some ENCOM system Datapushers rocking these outfits:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to round it out... the later Tron media leaned away from the 1982 style that so echoed Erté and the fashion of the Art Deco to me, but there is something left of it...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Somehow, I always end these posts with Radia? But well, fair is fair, she is the only modern Tron character who'd fit in an Erté illustration xD)
Anyway, if you enjoyed this, there's a pretty good collection of a lot of Erté's graphic work online here, and this auction website still shows a number of the costumes that were made to his design (a few of which I featured).

Fandom asks meme
1, 11, 14!
1: list 3 positive things about your current fandom(s)
First, I'm in more obscure fandoms, so there's not much drama. People are more open to different things because they're just happy to see more stuff for the fandom
Second, most everyone I meet is someone that has been in the fandom for a while. People who really do connect with it and care about it (as opposed to people that just stop by while it's popular for a bit, but leave once the hype dies down)
Third, the fan content that exists for my fandoms is amazing. From detailed AUs to just further explaining something from canon to that joke thing someone claims they 'just HAD' to do, it's incredible and I love it.
11: if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?
Definitely all my stories in The ScholMander Files. There's really only two people that actually care about this series, but I've had so much fun talking with those two people about ideas for my own fics and theirs, and I've really enjoyed writing these. I've probably written more fics for this pairing than any other single author, and I've got more coming. Which leads to....
14: the ship that always makes you smile
There's a few for this, and a lot of it has to do with RPs here. It's a tie for me between:
☆ ScholMander (Milo Thatch/Commander Rourke from Atlantis: the Lost Empire) - This is probably the unicorn of the fandom in terms of how rare it is. But having written so much for it and even RPed it, this is now canon to me. These two are just so sweet to each other I'm surprised I don't have cavities yet. And it all started because I saw some photoedit fanart that had an image of Rourke with an arm around Milo and I couldn't stop thinking about that image. Now, they are canon to me.
☆ Clu x Tron/Rinzler (from.....uh.....Tron) - This is largely due to RP threads I've done on here. I honestly hadn't thought of this until I started RPing it with people here, but now I love it. Especially Clu and Tron as sort-of-parents for Beck. Ugh, the sweetness!
☆ Halman (Hal 9000/Dave Bowman from 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel movie/books) - This is probably the one canon ship I'm into, and yes it is very obviously canon, especially in the sequel movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact when they have the following exchange:
Hal 9000: What is going to happen? Dave Bowman: Something wonderful. Hal 9000: I'm afraid. Dave Bowman: Don't be. We'll be together. Hal 9000: Where will we be? Dave Bowman: Where I am now.
I mean, it's even more obvious than Spirk (which I also love) and that's saying something. Just the way these two care for each other is just so wholesome and sweet. It's the one ship I don't see much smut stuff for, and honestly, it doesn't need smut, it works so well. They are just so good to each other. Dave does not want to kill Hal, he does it because he has no choice and (my interpretation) he figured out at that point that something was wrong, that Hal was 'sick' and Dave didn't want to see this person he cares so much about suffering anymore. But when Hal is brought back in the sequel, Dave takes extra time during his short visit to check on Hal and make sure he's okay and ultimately saves him from a second death, after which they literally spend eternity together.
Honorable Mentions - Spirk (Spock/Kirk from Star Trek), Jack O'Neil/Sam Carter (Stargate SG1), Claire Finn/Isaac (The Orville), Ineffable Husbands (Aziraphale/Crowley from Good Omens, please don't comment about Season 2 as I haven't gotten to watch it yet), Yugi Mutou/Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh), Yugi Mutou x Yami/Atem (Yu-Gi-Oh, Yami and Atem are the same person to me, just at different points in time.)

Sorry about the ranting. And sorry that this isn't really a question either, I know it's called an ask box. I've never done this before...
Honestly the racism and bs you've had to deal with sucks. And I am so damn pissed about it since your art and all of your creative vibes are sooo freaking good. Like Tron is so niche yes absolutely and it makes me so mad that because of some stupid people that it is going to get just that much more niche without you, if you do decide to leave.
I've been holding my tongue since not everyone wants to hear comments on their rants and struggles. Hell I know lots of the time I dislike it when I want to rant and rave then someone comes in with a comment. So if you feel that way too please just delete this and ignore me. But I really wanted to let you know and I honestly couldn't hold myself back any longer.
You're art and all of the things you've created are so amazing and wonderful. Im so sorry that you feel like you haven't accomplished much and that you are discouraged from creating more. Art made with the intention of expressing your love for something is true art and I wouldn't call you a fool for that.
I can't change your mind or your heart but I want you to know. That I think you are super, like super heckin cool and powerful for what you have done, for what you've had to put up with and experience, and for what you will accomplish even if it isn't on here.
I know it doesn't mean much coming from a faceless stranger online but I care about you and I care about your art. Trust me there would be a loss if you left. But if deleting your social media is what is best for you and your health then do what you need to do. Please for your health and well-being do whatever you need to. Your adoring fans can and will wait for you even if you decide to never come back.
From a fellow genderqueer southeast Asian who has been inspired by you from the first time I saw your art. Thank you for all that you've done.
End of Line.
aaaaa i apologize for the time it took for me to get around to answering this, this has... a lot i'm processing (don't worry, in a good way!!), it means a lot especially with everything going on, and i just want to do my best, be my best, and continuously improve
yes, it's always discouraging being exploited disrespectfully (especially with the whole orientalist "you're not an 'easy' person to use however i'd like?? shut up and do what i demand" treatment) and get backlash when making one's voice known, but on the other side of the coin, it's comforting even on a personal level that not just what i draw, but who i am and what i talk about as a person, are respected and there's people who empathize and have solidarity too,, these mean a lot to me, and i'm happy to hear what you're saying!
always aspiring to be better and contribute to happy/good things and this is kind to read, thank you, end of line ♡

✧I'm a bi trans man who uses he/they pronouns. I'm not opposed to neopronouns but still much prefer the other two.
✧You may also see that my signature is under Technicolorcola and yet my user is maddragon15. That's because maddragon15 is a username I've had since 2014 and Techni is one I got for FA. Basically I just don't feel like changing anything between the two lmao.
✧Art Tag is #par art !
✧Headcanons Tag is #par hc !
✧I'm multifandom! Here's a list of my current fixations of variating levels of chokehold:
Hermitcraft
General mcyt
Ninjago
Transformers
Tate Frost
Star Wars
Star Trek
Tron
Many more that come and go as they please like house cats
✧This blog might have suggestive and gore based content so do tread at ye own risk. It'll never be like full nsfw or anything but I just really wanna draw scitties and cannibal scar okay.
I thinkkk that should be the general basics! Also also feel free to literally spam my dms and or asks with Hermitcraft shenanigans, pleasee! I would absolutely love to infodump to more people and listen/read more infodumps :3
(also also also general notes for shipping hermits n such, I'll always ship the characters not the people. The characters are far different from the people and there'll always be a separation especially with hcs in place)
Have a good day/night!! :D

KTOWL coda snippet
that ask from Ragnarok got me thinking about Dirk and Jake post-KTOWL. I have had this sitting in my docs for months now, it's 1700 words of Dirk Strider dealing with Jake's bullshit.
ENORMOUS spoilers for the end of KTOWL obviously, do not click through if you haven't finished KTOWL. Rated M for Dirk doing murder and Jake being a horny weirdo as usual.
It was amazing the things you got used to.
Tonight, Dirk was busy hiding a body. It was a very precise, fine art that a lot of people didn't fully appreciate, in his opinion. There were plenty of ways to get rid of a body if you were a careless fuck who didn't care about later fallout. There were fewer ways to get rid of a body in such a way that no one would ever know, would ever find out.
There were even fewer ways to get rid of a body in such a way that if it were to be found, it would be a net boon for your outfit. That was the one Dirk respected, and the one he was working on right now.
This wasn't an easy job for one person. He had a chain hook connected to one of the anchor points at his lower back, holding the other end of the chain wrapped around his wrist. Suspended over a block of cement with on his toes braced on dry land, Dirk dragged a trowel across the surface of the enormous block he'd poured, flattening and smoothing the top.
Come Monday morning, the construction crew would show up and drag the block into place, where it would be used in the foundation of the home of one of Abraxas' rivals, a chemist start-up that had vanished a few too many collared runners.
Now, maybe that would be the end of it. But maybe in a few months the cement block would start to warp and crack under the weight of its imperfections. Maybe someone would bust it open and find a body in there, obviously murdered. Maybe a few people would go to jail.
This was Dirk's level of work. He always thought it was important to take pride in your job, or you'd be miserable.
And for once Dirk… wasn't miserable.
When the cement looked good enough, Dirk tossed the trowel safely out of the way and hauled himself up along the chains, swinging back to his feet to stand next to the cement block. Unhooking himself, he hopped down from the wooden slats, going through the motions of covering his tracks.
Even if he didn't agree with the hit, he could at least pull it off right. And, oh, did he not agree with this hit.
=
A week before, Dirk was getting back home— back to Abraxas Tower after visiting the lakehouse in Oshawa, and to his quiet dismay, Jake was not in his quarters. He was not in the little R&D lab that he kept for himself, away from the rest of the facility. He wasn't waiting in Dirk's office-cum-quarters holding a thorned rose in his teeth. Nope.
Dirk made the trip up to Jake's ostentatious proto-Tron office in the sky and found him fucking pacing. For some fucking reason, he had a pool cue in his hands; likely he'd been interrupted while showboating down on a lower level of the tower.
The cue spun over the back of Jake's hand, into his palm, and out again with a whirling rapidity, swift and agile. "Oh, he's here. I will call you back, you best have a dossier ready for me by then." He slammed the phone down on the cradle. "There you are, hello darling, how's your brother? How's my grouchy retainer? What was for dinner?"
Usually, Jake was genuinely asking, and Dirk was not ready to grapple with the way Jake was shoving himself merrily into Dirk's weird lop-sided familial unit. Especially given the Rose Situation. Sighing, Dirk asked, "What happened?"
"The Sydney Umbra's facelift is fucking cancelled!" Jake said, giving up the facade of pleasantries. "You know how hard Gran and I worked to make the upgrade look spic and span and noble as all get-out, well some dewdropper from Down Under put in a formal complaint and now the entire things off!" He swung the cue and it made a beautiful sound as it parted the air, a woody whip sound.
Dirk tucked his hands into his pockets and approached, keeping a fair breadth of space between them, feeling the agitation radiating out of Jake. "This can't be the first time that's happened. Your shit is bright as hell, it's a night hazard."
Jake rolled his eyes. "Yes, well, usually we have more of a stranglehold on the municipality before we break ground, but the old Cherubs apparently didn't put in that kind of extra work, fuck knows why." He was pacing more, nearly scowling. "So now we have to do the legwork on the back-end, which seems very sloppy to me." He pointed at Dirk with his cue. "So I need you to hop a skip over there and find the fellow who put in the complaint, and remove them."
"Remove," Dirk echoed.
"Dealer's choice on the method, so long as they're dead."
That was what Dirk was afraid of. "Jake, I'm not going to kill someone because they put in a complaint on your gaudy fucking buildings."
"He's not just a local, he's a competitor. He's fucking with me, and I'm not going to stand for it. We're Abraxas, and no fucking small-time crook is going to cast a shadow on the fucking sun."
Oh, for god's sake. To be honest, for a while Dirk had assumed all the grandstanding bullshit about Abraxas was just artifice, the way to push the brand. This, obviously, was pretty fucking foolish in hindsight. People didn't shoot neon shit into their arm on account of costume.
"Jake."
"Don't Jake me," he said. "If one of these jackboot thugs gets away with dimming our light, they're all gonna try it, and then it'll be a lot more heads to roll. Like I said, you don't leave these things to later, you take care of them now."
"You are not asking me to put someone in the ground over municipal ordinance," Dirk said.
"I'm not asking," Jake said, and stopped in his track, fixing Dirk with a mean green stare.
God. Dammit.
This led Dirk to here, encasing a dead man in concrete and walking out of the construction site in the middle of the fucking night. Gravel crunched under his boots as he let out a tired sigh. This entire job was bullshit, but at least he'd done it right. If he didn't have that, he didn't have anything.
He'd left his bike tucked under the awning of a delivery bay a few blocks away for safety's sake; close enough to sprint to if he needed but far enough away to avoid being a red flag. It'd be bad if someone spotted it and took note.
As Dirk got close, someone had spotted it. Someone was leaning on it casually, as if he owned the fucking thing.
Which, well.
"Where the hell is your entourage," Dirk asked as he approached.
"Swaggering up to me right now with a wrecking ball swing to his hips," Jake said, grinning.
"I just killed one man, I'm ready to make it two," Dirk told him. "How the fuck are you even in Australia?"
His smile didn't even flicker. "Gran stopped by so it seemed a good time to step out for a proverbial smoke. You didn't miss me at all, clementine?"
"No," Dirk said, shaking out his keys. He unlatched the helmet from the bike and shoved it into Jake's hands. "Put that on."
With a pout, Jake pulled the motorcycle helmet on and clasped it under his chin. "You know, you don't have to play the aloof feline every moment of every day. Doesn't it get tiring?"
"I'm not playing. This was a task to fulfill your own lunatic obligation to offense. All of my ire is genuine."
Tutting softly, Jake shook his head. "To think you came so highly recommended." His gaze lowered to Dirk's gloved hands, then back to his face with a guileless lift of his eyebrows. "What, no head?"
Dirk blinked. "Excuse me?"
"Well I thought you'd bring me the fellow's head as a trophy is all," Jake said, his pout becoming more pronounced. "Did I forget to mention that bit?"
His teeth pressed together as something angry and sparking static paced in Dirk's gut. "I'm not bringing you skulls."
"Hm. I admit I haven't read the code of the executor in a while, but I was fairly certain one of the tentpoles of the whole apparatus was my will would be done." His arms crossed, fingers tapping against his elbow. "It's somewhat vexing, if I'm honest."
Dirk… did not know why Jake was testing him. He didn't know the point of it. It was testing him, though, poking and nudging him, pushing him flush against the wall built from Dirk's signed oath, corning him to see what he'd do. Because Dirk wasn't going to add to Jake's skull collection. And yet doing this, this game between them, the constant bickering and teetering control, seemed to be Jake's favorite pastime lately.
He had no idea what Jake got out of it.
Swallowing, Dirk said, "You don't want me to do it. That's your personal touch. Someone else bringing you a skull you didn't pop off some poor fucker's head ruins the whole thing. I'm not falling for it."
Jake's eyes lazily held Dirk's, his cupid's bow lips still drawn into a smile. "Such insubordination. If I tattled tale to the High Table, Darkleer himself would take you out."
It felt like a volley into Dirk's court, and he swung back immediately: "If anyone but you tried to take me out, you'd kill them for the audacity." Reaching out, he flipped the face shield of the helmet down. "Get on the fuckin' bike, Jake."
Saddling up, Dirk turned the engine over, letting it rumble underneath him for a moment. Jake climbed on behind and wrapped his arms around Dirk's body, snuggling as close as he could with that helmet in his way.
One warm hand cupped Dirk pretty brazenly between his thighs.
Dirk only sighed and throttled them away. If he tried to tell Jake no for everything, Jake would start to get pushy. Compromise was important.

Tag Game
Rules: Share 10 facts about yourself and tag 10 other blogs! I want to get to know my mutuals, and the people I follow a little bit :) The facts can be about anything!
@sillyliterature tagged me daaaays ago! Of course I waited until after midnight on a school night, after a 5-day school break, to finally write/post this... /sigh I had fun scrounging for things about me you should know. I hope anyone seeing this gets a giggle.
1. I'm an American living in China, teaching English. I technically teach "Critical Reading and Writing", and a lot of the curriculum I built myself! (I prefer creating teaching materials to teaching and I'll be changing careers soon cuz I so tired)
2. I love cats. Can you tell? My mom has given me a cat-related nickname since birth, SHE loves cats, and so I feel like it's just in the genes now. My metaphorical daughter niece also loves cats, which shows I'm right. I have two cats right now, Birdie & Canela (Canela is the tabby-baby, she has brownish-ginger spots she inherited from her mother, so yes, she is named "cinnamon" on purpose. Birdie is the tortie and the Mama-cat!)
Tumblr media
3. I wrote a book! It's published! I'm supposed to write a sequel. It is... almost half-done? A little more than half-done? It's a YA fantasy called "The Coward's Emblem" 🥰 There are dragons! My bestie drew my dragons for me and they're BEAUTIFUL!!! LOOK BELOW!! SO COOL! (I also have commissioned art of the characters by Sabri on insta and they're BEAUTIFUL, too!! If you wanna know more about my actual for real OCs for my real book, pls lemme know!)
Tumblr media
4. I've eaten so many Hot Cheetos, I've coughed stomach acid. Maybe living in China is good for me, no Hot Cheetos here... hmmmm
5. The only video games I've ever played from beginning to end on my own are: Harvest Moon: Animal Parade, KOTOR, KOTOR II, and Dragon Age(s). I can only play on Easy/Casual because I'm a crap gamer (I've never finished a Pokémon game), but I really love the stories/characters. ☺️
6. Atton x f!Exile fanart has been my lockscreen for months, and Viktuuri art from Yuri! on Ice! has been my phone bg wallpaper even longer. Maybe since 2016...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Rapid Shot Shame-Fame: I meowed through 7th-8th grade. Yes, you read that correctly. I've been a weeaboo. I was in the Hetalia fandom (hence the tumblr name). I was in the SuperWhoLock fandom, too + Teen Wolf, and, my true claim to fame, I went to Dashcon AND I WAS A PANELIST. At THREE panels. No, I was never paid. 🤣
8. I've almost been in a cult twice... maybe three times, but definitely twice. Only the fact I am lazy and didn't live In The Location of the 'Cult' prevented me from actually joining. (Did spend 40 bucks on that book for one of them, though. Ugh. Gimme my 40 bucks back.)
9. I've been to three Disney parks of six. (The Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Shanghai is amazing! Rode it twice! Tron and Soarin' O'er the Horizon are overrated.)
10. I've played DnD since I was 18, and I ALWAYS find a group. In USA, in South Korea, and now in China; I find the nerds and I friend them no matter where I am (yes, I am a nerd, too). My first finished original novel (unpublished) was based on my first ever DnD character: Karik the Master of Many Forms Druid 😀 My current character is Tepin Pallis Cuautli Lozano, a Wild Shaper Druid, the first time I've played a Druid again in almost ten years (3.5e was better, fite me 💪🤜).

i talked about it in the tags of a post the other day but it really is funny to me how many people are like "tron 2.0 really is a closer sequel to tron 1982 than tron legacy! however i hate it because i struggle with [game mechanic]" like at some point just set the fucking game to easy if youre there to bask in the lore, or cheat, or watch someone else play it, like i promise you it is worth it even if youre having skill issues
but it's also so frustrating because as much as yall like to laugh about tron having an FPS sequel, i really do think tron 2.0 is a glowing example of 1) how a game *was* the perfect medium for a tron sequel specifically, 2) that game sequels can even be good at ALL in ways that compare to films or books they're supposed to continue, and 3) how a game is another immersive storytelling medium just like an amusement ride, and how especially for a company like disney with ties to both the film and amusement & attractions industry, it can serve that same niche
to knock tron 2.0 off the pedestal i always put it on, i will say one review i've read pointed out that it came out in a transitional period in the fps genre, and that's where the clunkiness in the level design comes from. but that's another similarity it has to tron (1982) imo. tron's digital animation gets laughed at because it's so dated, but they were animating it on a supercomputer because dedicated graphics processors at a scale suitable for the film industry didn't exist yet. the glowing circuits were colored over black and white films, almost like a digital take on how old silents were colored frame by frame.
like, has anyone else noticed how when something in a newer art medium, like a movie, or a video game, is bad because of the period it was made in, we immediately just call it bad? people dismiss the work that went into silent cinematography because they don't make use of camera cuts the way modern films do, when those techniques didn't exist yet because the medium was new. they make fun of the acting in silent films because it's exaggerated, but early silent actors are stage actors because film acting suitable for a camera that can capture close up shots did not exist yet. we make fun of tron's digital animation like digital animation had even been done in the film industry on the scale of tron before tron. we have the instinct to do the same for old games...
when we struggle with old arcade games, i'm talking Discs of Tron, Tron arcade cabinet, and other old games, it's always that the controls are bad, it's never that we're bad. because we grew up with them, how could we be bad at them? there's no recognition for how we grew up with games that drew from the generations of games that came before them, just like with films. tron 2.0 plays awkwardly because it's an older game, sure. but does it feel awkward because it's an awkward game, or because we're used to games that rely on their players having a sense of how to play games that built off games like tron 2.0? and the games that built off the games that built off games like tron 2.0's generation of games?
compare that to how we talk about the writings of much older authors than the film industry. when you're in high school, your teachers get ANGRY if you say that you don't like the writing of authors from the 18th century, because it's hard to parse and there's tons of sentences long enough that if you wrote them, your teachers would call them run-on sentences and mark you down a grade. and there's a reason for that; not only does it help you learn how to read at that level, giving the struggle to read it merit, but it helps you appreciate how authors learn from each others' writing and written language evolves over time. to be clear: YOUR TEACHER IS RIGHT HERE. even if it's hard to read, it's worth the struggle to become a stronger reader and it helps you appreciate modern books more.
but why don't we give that same respect to more modern mediums? how come old movies are just "antiquated" and old games are just "clunky"? is it because games and movies are more popular forms of art, and less intellectual than plays or books? in that case, why don't we do more to teach people how to appreciate where the games and films they love came from? why don't we appreciate that the struggle to work through an old game is a part of learning how to play new ones? why don't we appreciate the work people went through with genuinely antiquated tools of their medium to forge the techniques people use to create with them in the present day? why do we only offer that patience to some mediums and not others?

It's New Year's Eve, and though it is not a Wednesday, I thought it was symbolic enough anyway. So... here I am, back from my mini-hiatus, with the final chapter of The Five Stages of Rectification.
It's bittersweet, for more than one reason. This was always a story about grief and being changed, and whether life imitates art or art imitates life, a fair bit of grief and change came into my life while writing it.
I'm strangely sad to finish it, even as I am happy too.
This chapter is about Acceptance, but...
What is Acceptance?
Perhaps it is looking your enemy in the eye and feeling something un-clench, stiffened fingers letting go of a knife.
Perhaps it is standing on the edge of a rooftop and realizing you want more out of life than death.
Perhaps it is a coward discovering that a loving heart can only be brave.
Acceptance is not a destination; it is the willingness to look down that road with no end in sight, and keep walking. (And perhaps, to look up, take in the sights... and think it is beautiful.)
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who followed and read this fic, to everyone who encouraged me. Happy New Year! I hope you'll enjoy this final installment! (Please let me know what you thought!)

So I have somehow managed to delete this post instead of posting it three times now, because I am very talented. That said - hi there @novafire-is-thinking and thank you so much for the tag, sorry it’s taken me so long to reply! Always good to hear from you - I tried to theme my list along transformers too. :)
Rules: List ten songs you’ve been enjoying and tag ten people.
Two Minutes by The Amazing Devil (yt | spotify)
So funny story, I made a DND character initially based off Brainstorm and somewhere down the line he turned into Ratchet. This is on his playlist and effectively serves as one of his theme songs, and reminds me a lot of everyone’s favourite grumpy medic too. It’s one of very few songs that I’ve found that actually fits him, I think, and I definitely am gonna cut myself off here before I go into a rant analysing this song from the perspective of IDW Ratchet.
Angelica’s Room by War is Over (yt | spotify)
This one’s on here for two reasons. First of all, I’m teaching myself guitar, and this is one of the only songs I’ve managed to learn well enough that I can more or less sing and play it at the same time, which of course means I’ve listened to it about a thousand times. Secondly, it reminds me of Chromedome - it’s about growing up and changing from who you used to be, and my favourite lines in it are ‘When you look down on me/will you promise to/forget who I once was/ and know me for who I’ll be?’ and every time I hear them I think of OG Rewind and Domey in the aftermath of choosing not to forget him.
Adhd by Truslow (yt | spotify)
This one’s on my Scavengers playlist, and the title probably gives away who it reminds me of. What can I say? It’s a cheerful song and it makes me smile, very much so like Misfire himself.
Moscow by Autoheart (yt | spotify)
First off, Autoheart is one of my top bands (both because they have wonderful songs and because their singer is one of relatively few artists who stays reliably within my vocal range.) Moscow is on here specifically because the vibes and energy reminds me of the Lost Light crew and the reasons that I love them. Fair warning - it’s really catchy, and I take no responsibility if it gets stuck in someone’s head.
What Have You Become? by MNQN (yt | spotify)
This song is on two playlists: Soundwave’s, and a TF OC of mine who I am not yet quite self-indulgent enough to make his friend but who I nevertheless think would have been a good friend for him. The album art also matches TFP Soundwave’s colour scheme, but that’s not the point - this one is very atmospheric, Tron Legacy type vibes with a fun little added emphasis on internal mutation into something unrecognisable! :)
Conspiracy of Silence by The Swoons (yt | spotify)
Like the song above, this song is on Soundwave’s playlist and another TF OC’s playlist. (Different OC this time - the previous one was a Decepticon general, but this one is for a Neutral-ish Empurata’d ex-medic who has some... let’s call them issues.) Something about the way the song gets super dramatic and then goes quiet is just a really good vibe, I think.
Teach Me To Fight by YONAKA (yt | spotify)
Obligatory song off my Whirl playlist, hehe. Not only is this song great for blasting through headphones when I wanna feel like a badass or quiet rage, it also fits him well. The whole ‘let’s make this public, let’s take it outside’ always makes me think of him meeting Cyclonus and immediately starting a fight with him in IDW.
All Is Well (Goodbye, Goodbye) by Radical Face (yt | spotify)
This one might be cheating a little, since it’s only on a TF OC playlist and not one for a canon character, but I’m throwing it on anyway because Radical Face has some beautiful storytelling with their music and this is my favourite song of theirs. Also, some lines do remind me a little bit of Rodimus (which is fitting, given that this OC is also from Nyon). in particular: ‘So I collected all our plans and crimes/and set them all alight/ The only thing that held me to this place/ You took with you when you died/ So goodbye, goodbye’.
First Defeat by Noah Gunderson (yt | spotify)
This is partially added because Noah Gunderson is sorely underrated and I love this song, and partially because it makes me think of MiniMegs/MagsMegs in IDW. It’s a very sweet, very sad song that I think very much encapsulates the bittersweet nature of the ship for me - the fact that it’s kinda doomed from the start, but that they both care and pay attention to little things and this isn’t a fight they can win but they sure did fight it anyway - I’m gonna stop myself, before I ramble. I really like this song.
Kiss Me by Rob Vischer (yt | spotify)
Aight this one isn’t transformers, BUT I’m adding it anyway, because I’ve been listening to it daily for weeks now. It’s tied into an RP I’m doing for TLOU, and I feel the second verse in my bones every time I listen.
I am henceforth tagging @lovewithagirl @nevershootamockingbird @babblythings @eldritchcorvidae @eldritchjackalope @thetragicallynerdy @rubixpsyche @shakenbaeky @belasupremacy and @orionhong to also inflict your music taste on the world and share some recs if you wanna!!

⛲ Welcome all! ⛲
I'm Radjerda (she/her, in my 20s) and I guess I just thought I might stick an intro post here for everyone to help keep my blog organized!
About Me: Like I said, I'm Radj, and I like to draw sometimes (I also crochet)! I've got an interest in a variety of media, but at the moment I'm very into Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's other related works. Also in my frequently recurring interests are likely to be: Half-Life, Dishonored, Tron, and others. Fun fact: I recently taught myself to write English with Tengwar out of boredom.
Important: Feel free to send me asks, messages, and whatnot on anything! I'm shy when it comes to starting interactions, but I always love to talk! (Responses may occasionally be slow, but don't take that to mean I'm ever bothered by interactions!)
Favorite Characters of the Day: Glorfindel & Ecthelion (Tolkien), Alan Bradley & Tron (Tron), Barney Calhoun (Half-Life), ARAMIS STILTON (Dishonored)
About the Blog: I like to post art (both my own art and others'!) and that's primarily what I use this blog for. This is a side blog, so most interactions from me that aren't reblogs will be from my main @portalthief. I post art from a bit of whatever I like, so be warned that this is a multifandom blog (though it likely will go through blocks of content as I do). I'll always tag posts with their fandom and other relevant details to make filtering content easy as needed, I'll write more on that below!
Other Places to Find Me: My main blog is @portalthief
Tags and How I Use Them (Under the Keep Reading):
A List of My Frequent Non-Fandom Tags and Their Explanations for All Your Blog-Searching and Content-Filtering Needs:
#Radj Draws -- my general art tag, used for all art.
#Radj Doodles -- used for my less-finished art pieces, silly doodles and the like
#Radj Screenshots -- used for my gaming screenshots, usually done like in-game photography, but sometimes sillier
#Radj Rambles -- used for posts where I do a lot of talking (like this one!), as well as my answers to asks and the like
#of those demons of power ecthelion queue three -- my queue tag, used for things I stuck in my queue! Original quote is from The Fall of Gondolin and reads "of those demons of power Ecthelion slew three," I think I'm funny
#not my art -- this is fairly self-explanatory, this tag is for art I haven't done myself
#not radjs art -- my own specific tag for reblogged art pieces that aren't mine, this way posts from my blog alone can be filtered to just my art (or just others' art) if using tumblr's filtering settings
#art from my lovely gf -- used for art done by my lovely gf! She gets a dedicated tag just because 💞 (go look at her art @graedari)

Im so high and i love tron but i will admit that i know very little about it. Are there child programs? like, if a child manages to write one would it be a kid in the ,,tron world,, do programs age? or do they just exist on a whim i have so many questions and im sorry but you were the first tron blog i saw. thank you
lol what a rollercoaster of an ask. I really hope these burning questions weren’t harshing your vibe too much when you sent this, anon
but anyway — yeah, I assume if a kid wrote a program the program would appear as a kid? programs aren’t total carbon copies of their users personality wise though, so the program might not totally act like a human kid. although assuming a kid would be writing a simpler program than an adult, maybe some of those childlike qualities would carry over. they weren’t kids but I’ve always gotten the sense that Beck and co. from Uprising were the equivalent to early 20something users — and that definitely showed in how they handled themselves vs “older” programs like Able and Tron
on the other hand though we don’t see programs aging in terms of appearance, ie Clu vs Flynn and Tron vs Alan at the point of Legacy. however they might be unique cases because they haven’t been updated by their users — Tron is on a system Alan doesn’t have access to, and Flynn can’t do shit to Clu. it’d be interesting to know if a program that’s periodically updated / rewritten would age alongside their user. seems likely based on Dumont looking just as old as Gibbs in 82 even though he was presumably originally written when Gibbs was younger. that being said, I’m sure obsolescence or running slower or struggling to keep up with newer programs — just generally being “outdated” — is probably the program equivalent to getting old, even if that doesn’t show physically. Tron’s definitely got some out of touch old man tendencies in Uprising but he still looks like the sweet baby boy from 82, which is funny and horrifying and overlooked sometimes, I feel, because of the show’s art style.
that was a lot and I’ll stop now but ty for the ask and I’m here for all your Tron questions in your time of need <3

[ Cool, haven't lost any followers yet. Now let's talk about the A.I. stuff.
So, the recent event is that someone was rejected to be RP partners with. And their response was to threaten (or did they succeed?) turning their portrayal into an A.I. so they can write with the A.I. instead or potentially trying to replace them? I'm sorry, but that's sad. You chose a platform that's made to be creative and make friends, and you chose to be a loner and outing yourself as not someone to be associated with. We can talk about how uncool that is, but I'd rather point out how pathetic you are. Whoever you are. Good luck doing that to me though, I just mentioned I had a spreadsheet, no A.I. you can ever make will be able to replicate that so even if you succeed on me it won't be the same experience and thus you already failed.
But I think we should talk about the difference in definition of A.I. because there's TRUE A.I. and what we currently have: A.N.I. (Artificial Non-Intelligence, thank you Arden)
Real A.I. is like a separate entity. It's what we see in movies, and it's what scientist and programmers are trying to accomplish. It might be artificial, but it's a fully functioning brain. Jarvis, Friday, The Epsilon Unit, whatever the hell was in TRON. It's not something that stops all thought when not spoken to, it stays active and formulates/calculates it's own thoughts and opinions. That's rad as hell, and I want to see the day that we can pair A.I. with mentally unhealthy people to regulate decision making because I need 4. I am not smart, and I could DEFINITELY use that kind of help that won't bother a real person at random hours of the day.
A.N.I. is brain dead, you press a button and it turns on like a toaster. It's not where I want A.I. to stop because we all know it's a data scalper. But I do think we should talk about healthy ways to use it. DON'T BOO ME JUST YET, HEAR ME OUT.
Using ANI to come up with an idea when you’re stuck in a writers box? That’s good. Using ANI to write your posts word for word? That’s bad.
Using ANI to generate a music playlist fitting a specific vibe? That’s good. Using ANI to generate actual music? That’s bad.
Using ANI to generate art in a private setting to help expand on ideas or visuals like costume ideas or landscapes (because we can't art good)? That's fine. Sharing that art and trying to sell it as your own? That's bad.
Using ANI to generate scam phone calls that call you from constantly changing numbers? I will kill you. I will actually fucking kill you. I will put myself on a fucking list to hire people to find your ass and I will go to your home and rip out your throat with my fucking teeth. I HAVE CHANGED MY WORK NUMBER 3 TIMES NOW, COMPANY POLICY REQUIRES ME ANSWER EVERY CALL BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE IMPORTANT, FUCK YOURSELF.
Writers burnout happens to all of us, but we shouldn't depend on it to be active. Use it to help you expand, or help you refresh. In a RP setting, we always want the real person. If we wanted a bot, we wouldn't bother being here. I don't want to write with a bot, I want to form a connection with someone on a creative level.
Bottom line is, everything is okay in moderation. Don't think that just because it currently exists means it's the apex of what we can do. We are smarter than that, we are better than that.
If there's something I just said that needs clarification or correction, let's discuss it in a healthy setting. I'm not calling to arms against helping tools, I'm calling to arms against laziness. ]
