Hello! Since your requests are open, can I ask Chixie, Cirava, Polypa, Daraya, Lanque, Tagora, Galekh, Zebruh, Chahut and Marvus with a human friend reader (who crashed on alternia instead of MSPA Reader)?

Reader is sweet and nice, a real cinnamon roll; but like Retsuko from Aggretsuko, she has a gift for signing hard metal. She use hard metal to shoot out her anger and frustration and telling what's deep on in her mind.

During a show at Chixie's singing stage, highblood are messing the prestation. Reader tried to stop them, but they are so mean that reader has enough and sing what she has one her mind with her hard metal voice to shut them of.

🧡 Chixie Roixmr ♦️ human!Reader 🎤

You and Chixie spent a lot of time together. You supported her desire to sing and were always kind and nice to her and to others. Chixie met you a few days after you ended up on Alternia and since then you've been spending time together almost constantly because you didn't have a place where you could even sleep, so you lived in her hive

You often went with her to record albums and to her performances, so when several highbloods decided to spoil her performance, you were also there. You tried to help her, but they didn't take you seriously. Chixie saw you clenching your fists, trying to keep a calm expression on your face, but you couldn't stay silent for long. You grabbed the microphone and sang in a voice she had never heard from you

Your voice was very different from your usual one. Such a voice would be perfect for performing hard metal, but she never thought she would hear such a thing from you. Highbloods also did not expect this and froze in shock, unable to say a word. You, with the help of your singing, seemed to throw out all those negative emotions that you had

Highbloods hurried away, not knowing what else they could expect from you. It was only when they left that both you and Chixie were able to breathe a sigh of relief. She was surprised by what you did, and you were very confused. It was unusual for you that someone saw this side of you, but if it worked, then it made sense, because now your friend could go back to recording his song

💛 Cirava Hermod ♦️human!Reader ✌

From the first day of your stay on a completely unfamiliar planet to you, Cirava has been looking after you. You seemed pretty harmless to him and sometimes he wondered how you could survive on Alternia at all. However, you were able to find friends pretty quickly, among whom was Chixie. You told him about the songs you heard from her and he was glad that you had someone to spend time with outside of his hive

He was sure that you had no problems when you went to see Chixie until he found a video on the Internet. He didn't know who took it off, but he quickly realized what was going on. Several highbloods wanted to interfere with your friend's performance. You tried to stop them, but they didn't pay attention to you. However, what happened next greatly surprised not only Cirava, but also everyone who saw this video

You started singing. The voice that you sang was like it wasn't your own, but Cirava quickly realized that it really was you. Your voice would be perfect to sing hard metal, which surprised him and made him smile. He didn't expect you to fight back in this way, but that didn't mean he took it badly

When you returned to his hive, he told you with a smile that he did not expect to hear this from you, but he was impressed. You were very confused by his words, but you answered him with an uncertain smile, rejoicing that your friend did not condemn this side of you

💚 Polypa Goezee ♦️human!Reader 🔥

Polypa and you became friends in a sense by accident, but your friendship became something you could be sure of in any situation. She knew that human on Alternia was difficult to survive, so sometimes she looked out for you. When she found out that you had a friend besides her, she felt relieved, because it meant that there were others on whom you could rely if necessary

Several times she picked you up from your friend Chixie's rehearsals. This usually happened when you returned to her hive closer to dawn. She didn't want you to get into trouble, so she met you, carefully watching so that she wouldn't be noticed. However, when she came a little earlier than planned, she saw how several highbloods decided to interfere with your friend's rehearsal and you tried to interfere with them

She wanted to intervene if they decided to harm you, but something happened that surprised her and shocked everyone else. You grabbed the microphone and sang loudly. It was like you were singing hard metal, releasing all the anger and all the anger that had accumulated in you with this song. Polypa saw the shocked faces of others and could not restrain a weak smile. She was proud of you. She was proud that you were able to stand up for yourself, albeit in such an unusual way

When you were walking back to her hive, you were very confused that Polypa had witnessed your other side. You rarely showed this side of yourself to anyone, but the fact that Polypa was not against it, but on the contrary, said that you did the right thing, giving vent to your anger, made you smile sincerely. You were glad that your friend stayed by your side no matter what

Daraya rarely left the hive where she and the other jadebloods lived, but when you started living with them, you sometimes began to walk together. You grabbed the microphone that one of the highbloods took from Chixie and sang. Your voice was very different from the one you used to talk to. You sang something very similar to hard metal, thus releasing all the accumulated emotions. This greatly shocked and scared them, because highbloods were sure that you should not even pay attention to you, but now they did not know what else they could expect from you, so they hurried away

You were very confused while you were walking back to the hive. Daraya saw this and was in no hurry to start a conversation. Only when you apologized to her for seeing you that way did she tell you that she liked the way you sing and said that she would be glad to hear you sing again

💚 Lanque Bombyx ♦️ human!Reader 🌷

From your first day of life in the hive where all the jadeblood trolls lived, Lanque has been watching you. He saw how you periodically went somewhere and one day decided to go with you. You were too sweet and kind to refuse him this small request, however, he did not expect that you would go to meet your friend Chixie and attend her rehearsal before the performance

You were glad that you were able to share with Lanque what you liked. He came to her rehearsals with you several more times and when you came there again, a rather unpleasant situation happened. Several highbloods decided to ruin her rehearsal. Lanque thought you'd leave, but you didn't want to leave your friend in the lurch. He tried to stop you, but you did something that shocked him, and not only him

He saw you snatch the microphone out of the hands of one of the highbloods and sing. You sang hard metal and no one could even imagine that you could do such a thing. With this song, it was like you were throwing out all your emotions that you usually hid. Your sudden determination was able to scare the highbloods and they left, not knowing what else they could expect from you. However, Lanque wasn't going to leave anymore. He was watching you with a grin on his lips

You spent all the way to the hive in silence. You were too embarrassed by what happened and he was watching you. He was wondering how much else you were hiding. He didn't tell you, realizing that there wasn't much he could learn from you right now, but he wasn't going to leave this situation unattended

💙 Tagora Gorjek♦️human!Reader 🧾

From the first day of your acquaintance, Tagora wondered how you could survive alone on Alternia. You seemed too kind, too innocent for this planet. He was looking out for you, telling you that if you get hurt, he can protect you in court and make money on it. You treated his words with a smile, but still tried to be careful. He knew that you often went to visit your friend Chixie and sometimes you went to her rehearsals. He knew about it and sometimes came to meet you when he was somewhere nearby

When he once again went to meet you, he witnessed not the most pleasant incident. Several highbloods came to Chixie's rehearsal and decided to ruin it. He expected you not to interfere, but he wasn't surprised when you tried to stop them. He was watching what you were doing and didn't immediately understand why you snatched the microphone out of the hands of one of the trolls

Pretty quickly, he and everyone else present were stunned by your singing. You sang hard metal, as if venting all your anger that you usually kept to yourself. Highbloods were shocked by what you did and didn't know what else to expect from you, so they left, leaving you alone

Tagora did not tell you that he witnessed your singing, but he was not going to leave this situation without completion. He was going to send a claim to the trolls who tried to interfere with you. It was a little surprise for you that he didn't plan to tell you about until he achieved his goal

💙 Galekh Xigisi ♦️ human!Reader 👓

When Galekh first met you, he was surprised. You seemed very kind to him and he didn't understand how you lived up to your age at all. Sometimes you even seemed naive to him, but the fact that you had troll friends gave him hope that you wouldn't die too quickly. One of your friends was Chixie. You told Galekh about her and he knew that you often went to her rehearsals. He didn't usually attend such events, but he was not far from the rehearsal venue, so he decided to make sure you were okay

When he came, he heard a very loud and for some reason familiar voice. It took him a second to realize it was your voice. Looking into the room where the rehearsal was taking place, he saw how you sang hard metal as if not with your own voice and, judging by the shocked looks that were directed at you, it was unplanned. Chixie looked at you with delight and highbloods tried to leave and not catch your eye

Only when you calmed down did you and Chixie tell him that these trolls wanted to interfere with the rehearsal. They took the microphone that you took from them, they mocked your friend and you and eventually your patience broke. You were very embarrassed that they saw this side of you, but Chixie hurried to cheer you up and said that you have a very beautiful voice

Galekh gathered his thoughts only when you were halfway to his hive. He told you that he didn't expect this from you, but when he saw your worried look, he realized that you didn't quite understand his words correctly. He hastened to tell you that he was just surprised and glad that you were able to fight back, albeit in such an unusual way, and the fact that you were using hard metal to vent your emotions seemed to him a good option. He was glad that you were okay and able to stand up for yourself

💙 Zebruh Codakk ♦️ human!Reader 🦓

Zebruh was the one who introduced you to Chixie. Initially, she felt anxious from communicating with you, but quickly realized that you were not like your friend and she liked to communicate with you. Sometimes Zebruh would come to her rehearsals with you. You liked listening to her and Zebruh behaved more calmly next to you. But most of the time you went to her rehearsals without him

When he decided to visit you and Chixie during one of her rehearsals, first he heard a strange silence, and then a loud voice that sang hard metal. It was your voice. He hurried into the room where the rehearsal was taking place and saw that it was you singing. Besides you and Chixie, there were several highbloods in the room who clearly shouldn't have been there and now they were clearly trying to leave so as not to be completely deafened by your voice

It was only when the highbloods left that you could breathe a sigh of relief. You had to explain to Zebruh that you usually used hard metal to release emotions that you didn't show to other people, but on Alternia you didn't have such opportunities until this moment. You were very confused by this and Zebruh was surprised, because he was sure that you were a gentle and kind human, but this side of you seemed interesting to him

Several times he offered to help you make a career as a singer, but you refused, claiming that hard metal was just a hobby for you and you weren't going to make a career out of it. He claimed that if you want, you can always turn to him, because he was your friend and was always ready to help you discover your talent

💜 Chahut Maenad ♦️ human!Reader 🪓

Chahut enjoyed spending time with you. Since you became friends, she more and more often drew attention to how fragile you were compared to trolls. That's why she was looking out for you to make sure nothing would happen to you. But she knew that periodically you went to visit your friend Chixie. Chahut didn't worry about it, knowing that nothing would happen to you

One day she came to the place where the rehearsal was taking place to meet you. She planned to take you home because she had free time, but when she came, several highbloods almost crashed into her, which immediately left. She didn't immediately understand why they ran away, but when she came to the rehearsal room, she saw you sitting on the floor and putting your breath in order, while Chixie looked at you with delight in her eyes

You and Chixie told her that those trolls came to ruin the rehearsal. They were going to break the equipment, but you couldn't keep quiet anymore. You snatched the microphone out of the hands of one of them and started singing hard metal. It shocked them and pretty quickly they hurried away, as if fearing you. You didn't understand the reason, because for you hard metal was just a way to vent negative emotions, because you were usually quite friendly and nice to others. Chahut was surprised by this, but at the same time glad that you rebuffed the detractors

Chahut wasn't going to specifically look for those who tried to offend you, but she remembered them. She intended to have a conversation with them about how they shouldn't even try to harm her friend if she met them again

💜 Marvus Xoloto ♦️ human!Reader 🎤

Marvus often took you to various musical events. He was closely connected with this and you were happy to go there with your friend, learning more about Alternia. However, you had other ways to learn more about this planet, because you had friends. One of your friends was Chixie. Marvus has heard of her but has not met her personally. He planned to meet her a little later, together with you, but his plans changed when you asked him to meet you after Chixie's rehearsal. He gladly agreed to your request

When he came, at first he did not assume anything unusual. However, pretty quickly he heard your voice. You were trying to convince someone of something. He immediately realized that some unforeseen situation had happened and hurried to you, but before he could open the door, your loud singing, amplified by the speakers, suddenly rang out. You were singing hard metal and when he opened the door, he saw the shocked and slightly frightened looks of several highbloods who clearly shouldn't have been at the rehearsal

Highbloods left, trying not to look at you and didn't even notice him. Only when they left did you finish singing and try to get your breath back in order. When you saw Marvus, you blushed, greatly embarrassed that he saw this side of you. Marvus was too worried that you might get hurt, so he hurried to take you away, only briefly saying goodbye to Chixie

Only in the car did he find out what caused this. He found out that hard metal was a way for you to release your negative emotions and this time your negative emotions went over the edge. You were embarrassed by it, but Marvus calmed you down by saying that you have a beautiful voice and that you shouldn't be ashamed of it. His words made you smile sincerely, which could not but please him

49. One character you didn’t like at first, but like now? Equius! I think he's a great example of the kind of people that a culture like Alternia's creates, and through him and Nepeta's shared reliance on preexisting cultural structure we get a very good sense of the ways that the caste system fails to truly benefit even the highbloods as much as it benefits the structure itself.

The way the two of them illustrate both primary cultural forces of the planet (the hemospectrum and the quadrants) by processing interaction through those lenses is really well done and I think accurate to the kind of things young people look to to feel valuable and bespoke.

57. The Felt or The Midnight Crew? The midnight crew! I inexplicably find the felt rather nasty. Like I don't like the way they're shaded and I don't want to touch their bodies. Sorry if you like the felt, this isn't me saying they're bad I just get yacked out by them for an unknown reason.

67. Have you read SBAHJ? Do you like it? Yeah I like it a lot! It kind of bums me out that its intent pre-homestuck was more targeted as a mean-spirited gamer comic parody, but it doesn't ruin it for me. I honestly think the irreverent (and often offensive or inconsiderate) ideas in SBaHJ really help to characterize Dave and the online spaces that inspired his voice. Having a preteen channer/somethingawful poster with a penchant to parrot edgy shit for shock value confront meaninglessness in the face of the end of the world is pretty compelling, and the way SBaHJ persists in some form into the later parts of the comic highlights that dissonance pretty well imho.

85. Favorite Homestuck soundtrack? Like whole album? My favorite songs are all spread around, but I think the strongest album in its entirety might be Alterniabound? The trolls all have really wonderful themes.

100. One popular HS opinion you agree with? June Egbert! I guess the "opinion" there is that John would be happier if he transitioned.

Obviously John is kind of lost in an infinite adulthood without narrative structure to provide identity and meaning - and while I don't think transitioning alone could help him overcome that, I do think he would benefit from the more nuanced tools for engaging with tropes/social performance/identity that come with being an adult trans person. I also think the vulnerability of that choice would enable a more intimate relationship with his friends than he's been able to have for a long while.

That's just my read of the character, though. I think there are other ways to interpret his feelings at the end of Homestuck proper.

I've only read a bit of Vast Error but the characters and universe just seems like a bit of a let down.

They're trolls, but they're not on Alternia, sure. What differences do they have?

Well, they're nicer about blood color and their government isn't as mean... Okay, so... They removed all the dark and gritty aspects of their planet that made the trolls interesting as a separate species?

Well I can overlook that, how are the characters? The Karkat clone, the multiple Mary sues, the random bitchy one (that I was actually kinda upset about because I was super excited for the purple blood), the porn addict, and emotionally absent boyfriend, etc.

I don't really see any characters that feel worth liking. As interesting as the journey may be, these aren't the sort of characters I want to see make that journey.

None of the characters interest me, they're all cruel in some way. The universe removed the most difficult aspects of Alternian life making it feel they don't have struggles to MAKE them that way, and honestly the plot is pushing forward so fast I barely understand what's going on.

The things I can compliment? The art is beautiful and very fluid, perhaps even rivaling Homestuck if not better. It's wonderful to look at.

The music is great and I have no complaints, generally very good.

I know they have merch, and the merch is super neat too. (Although I question the copyright legalities)

i love vast error's art its WONDERFUL. very clear that a lot of passion and care and love goes into the works, even on the games and spin off comics and other such things. Ive not seen much of the merch but i assume its probably good quality and nice too. from the music Ive heard the artists are all SUPER talented, i loved the dead shufflers album. very good work!

but then you get to the comic itself. to compare the comic to food, the artists prepare a wonderful layout of delicious desserts, and the musicians brought the most amazing wines possible to the table, and then the writers bring out the main course, and its the blandest, most driest jerky Ive ever had.

every single Vast Error character is written like this: we're gonna deconstruct a trope! this character is this trope, but we're gonna subvert it!!

and then they fail to remember that to set up a character who is one thing and then subvert it, you must set up the thing you are subverting.

arcjec is a main character-type boy who's since grown depressed and unhappy with his role, and we open up on him AFTER hes realized that. Ok! that's an interesting way to open up! Let's see the rest of the cast.

we've got serpaz, who is a comic relief type character, but... isn't happy with that role. and as soon as shes introduced the story begins taking her more seriously. Ok...

then we have calder, who is said to be sexist, and cruel. and as soon as hes introduced, characters begin speaking down to him for... being sexist and cruel, something we've yet to see him do cause he just showed up... right.

this story doesn't want to slow down and introduce us to our characters before they go "no i don't like this role im playing in the group/story" but id like to see them in the role first!!!

you cant just show me a character and go "theyre like this! trust me guys!" only to then immediately show them differently and expect me to be surprised that theyre subverting their trope. you never set it up!!!

so many of these characters are just flat, and bland, and uninteresting, and we're told that we're subverting tropes, but you gotta write the trope first!!!

and dont even fucking get me started about how they dont want any of their characters to be bad. so many of these characters are humanized and treated as redeemable, all in a story about how capitalism and shit destroys the enviorment/society. not every character can be redeemable and good if you want to tell a compelling story about how greed and profit destroys lives. jesus christ i hate vast error.

I own design #2 & #7, aka the Sage blood and the Sienna blood. Could become very handy quite fast.

Also, here is my latest commissioned fantroll from my September 15th 2020's backup. Not sure if I got it before then but as it was hosted on Imgur and probably got forgotten there due to the artist no longer being active (at least for commissions) since that timestamp, would be also lost if it wasn't for my smartphone photo album on adoptables... And yes, each of them needs some adjustments to account at least somewhat towards bodily gender history and extended zodiac dynamics.

At first, you didn't find anything, but eventually you discovered a pile of RETRO TECHNOLOGY. Now that you've finished bringing all the retro tech home, you're now going through your LOOT. None of it seems particularly rare, but you did get to finish your set of A2 RAVENAIR HUSKTOPS. Under your pile of loot, you have various ZOMBIE MOVIES scattered across your hive. You think it's a bit silly, but you love to imagine yourself inside the movies, thinking of what you would do. Lusus: A quadrupedal furry animal slightly larger than a small dog that looks like a cross between a cat and a squirrel. He has a large fluffy tail that expands further when scared. His mouth has some flat teeth with two canines that continuously grow. To keep his teeth from growing too much, he chews on wires, handles and anything else he can, despite having many chew toys. When scared, he can send a shock though someone who touches him. Named Catdad. Hive: Lives on the top floor of a communal give stem. His hive is quite messy and colorful, with magazines and comic books splayed across the floor. The walls are painted grey, but covered in neon posters and paint stains. His floor is covered in a rug patterned after a cult classic zombie movie. His lusus sleeps on a small bed next to his computer desk. When necessary, he shovels the objects on his floor into his closet and shuts the door. Ancestor: The Operator

Trolltag: computerBoy [CB] Land: Land of Cogs and Rust [LOCAR] Quest: The land is made of cogs and steampunk machines that keep the planet running smoothly. Recently, the cogs have started to rust and the machines are beginning to fail, leaving the land stopped and the consorts stranded. The emotions have clouded the consort's abilities, making it so they cannot solve the problem on their own. Kapros must help fix the clockwork system and assist the consorts to set aside their emotions and distribute their intelligence and emotions. Once the cycle is reestablished, his quest bed and denizen become available. Denizen: Metis

Trickster: Cotton Candy Ice Cream Death: Accidentally impaled himself on a fence post. Personality: Very relaxed and mellow, rarely getting upset. He's very personable and social, spending most of his time with others. Does his best to be flexible and upbeat. Overly trusting to the point of being gullible. Afraid of upsetting others, leading to him being cowardly. Slightly forgetful and can be indecisive if he believes the decisions might affect others. Very quiet with strangers but very talkative with his friends. Hemoloyalty: Largely indifferent to the hemospectrum, but is very wary around mutants and seadwellers Interests: Retrocomputing, zombie movies, and paintball.

Ok im in a mspfa mood so im gonna post all my ideas for [S] pages with songs that either weren’t used in the comic proper or i want to do something different with the track lol

(Under the cut because this is going to be long)

But first I’m going to start with some non-Homestuck tracks:

Backroom Labryinth (from the ENA OST)- I had an idea for a little walkaround game where you play as Page who is dreaming in the dreambubbles from the Prospitian ship. It’s very much inspired by ENA and the LSD dream emulator, where she encounters alternate dead versions of her friends, and then it ends with her finding Gamzee just creeping around and they have a STAREDOWN until she just asks if he wants to hang out lol.

CORE (from the Undertale OST)- I really want more dreambubble interactions with the Prospit kids ok ;_; this would be a page called [S] Jade: Head to the lab, where Jade (who is dreaming in the dreambubbles) travels through the different instances of labs that we see in homestuck (the ectobiology lab, the meteor lab, the skaianet lab, and finally the lab on her island)

Another Medium (from the Undertale OST)- An [S] page that starts as animation but then turns into a walk around game (like that one animation with Meenah), In the alpha session, Dave and Page go to LOHAC together in order to help complete the Ultimate Alchemy, and they also bond and catch up with each other :-)

OK now for the official music:

Blue Noir (Midnight Crew: Drawing Dead)- I want to make a trumpet cover for a page called [S] Page: Play jaunty tune on the horn, where Page shows off her trumpet skills.

The Ballad of Jack Noir (Midnight Crew: Drawing Dead)/Octoroon Rangoon (Vol. 5)- A fight scene with Jack Noir with an establishing shot with the ballad playing, and then it leads into octoroon rangoon once the fighting starts.

Lunar Eclipse (Midnight Crew: Drawing Dead)- A page where Wyllin is exploring Derse after she gets knocked tf out by one of the garbage MIDI files she made.

Dupliblaze COMAGMA (Vol. 5)- An animation where Page is dealing with the dangerous puzzles and enemies on her planet, but Dave is trying to contact her and she can’t pick up because she’s kind of fighting for her life

Showdown (Alternia)- AN ACTUAL STRIFE (GRIEF) SCENE WITH KARKAT AND HIS LUSUS

Phaze and Blood (Alternia)- Karkat first entering the medium and appearing on his planet Land of Pulse and Haze

Theme (Alternia)- An animation where Karkat walks out of his hive and looks up at the pink and green moons with Hivebent written next to them, mirroring the beginning of Homestuck when John looks up at the sun

The Thirteenth Hour (Alternia)- A bunch of scenes where the trolls are entering the medium, and some of their entries mirror the entries of the beta kids

Stormspirit (Strife!)- An establishing scene of the area that Page’s Denizen Marsyas lives in (i also wanted to mention that i think its super funny that all the kids have a song for them in the Strife album and then theres already a song called Stormspirit and Page’s whole deal is thunderstorms and lightning 0_0 it just fits perfectly)

Frogs (Medium)- An animation where Karkat and Kanaya are helping breed the Genesis Frog on Land of Rays and Frogs

Firefly (Vol. 9)- I was thinking of using this for a scene in the aftermath of John completing his planet’s quest or something, with fireflies all around him roxy and dirk

Moonsetter (Vol. 9)- LISTEN i know moonsetter is already in the comic, but i want to feature it in an animation about Dirk instead of Vriska because it is a Dirk song and nothing else. I’d want it to maybe be about him growing up alone in the future and then making Hal and finding all of his friends over the internet, and then it transitions to him in the medium on his planet solving puzzles and fighting enemies up until he prototypes Hal into a sprite

Power Fantasy (Cherubim)- I was thinking of putting this to a scene in the dancestor’s sgrub session where it’s the aftermath of Meenah and Damara’s fight and Meenah goes godtier

Moonsweater (Vol.10)- I really want to use this song for the end credits where everyone is living happily on Earth C :-)

Broom Temperature/Every Single Grievance/Get the Horns (THE GRUBBLES)- I want to use these songs for an easter egg in Openbound where when you play as Karkat, you can find Wyllin in a secret area and see that shes formed a band with Dave, Damara and Aranea and that they named themselves after an “old Alternian band”, which is a reference to Xefros and Dammek’s band in Hiveswap

And those are all the solid ideas I have for [S] pages :-)

To celebrate the re-release of all the HS music on Bandcamp, here is a list (with links!) of my favorite HS music. There’s talent and heart in the vast Homestuck musicverse, and I highly recommend exploring it if you haven’t, returning to it if it’s been a while, and sharing your own favorites if they’re still in your mix today.

So here are my top 25 favorite Homestuck songs, including fan material:

1. Doctor | George Buzinkai | Homestuck Vol. 1-4 The original. The iconic. A genuinely haunting and atmospheric track, I think this was a big part of what really drew me into the story when first reading it.

2. Candles and Potency | Jeremy “Solatrus” Iamurri | (Youtube) I’ve posted this here before but like. This is still such a mystery to me. It was played as part of the stream leading up to the release of Volume 10. Why...was it not part of Volume 10. Why does it have no official release. I live in terror this video source for it will be taken down. It’s a stunning remix of Candles and Clockwork (x / x). Listen to it all the way through - the piano bit is my favorite.

3. Planet Healer | Seth “Beetfox” Peelle | Homestuck Vol. 5 Changes the mood of Doctor from “mysterious” to “inviting.” Great soundtrack for a playable segment of the comic, great to listen to on its own.

4. Pale Rapture | The Black Curtain | coloUrs and mayhem: Universe B This song has a noticeable physiological calming affect on me. I also just like it.

5. Trepidation | Svix | Homestuck Vol. 9 Energetic and uplifting. One of my cheer-up songs.

6. Voidlight | Thomas Ferkol | Homestuck Vol. 10 (Whispers in the Voidlight / Haven) I think I’m okay admitting that I like the preview version of this better than the final - because I still like the final great deal. I like that Whispers in the Voidlight has less layer, but I like the ending that was added to Voidlight. I’m pretty happy having both versions in my mix. It is a very comforting song to me.

7. Carne Vale | Malcolm Brown | Cherubim Still gives me shivers. This was the standout for me when Cherubim was released, and I’m glad it was put in the comic later - it made [S] Game Over. more palatable.

8. Austin, Atlantis | Clark “Plazmataz” Powell | Homestuck Vol. 9 (Austin, Atlantis (piano duet)) I cried the first time I listened to this. That’s...a recommendation. Sometimes the titles of instrumental songs don’t affect my impressions of them on a conscious level, but this one definitely did, and I actually felt an emotion like looking at a sunken city that I used to be able to walk though. Both versions are very good.

9. Crystalanthemums | Alex Rosetti | Homestuck Vol. 5 (Crystalguitarthemums* | Eric “Jit” Scheele | Land of Fans and Music 2) Another iconic leitmotif. I love the track itself, and Crystalguitarthemums is a fan release that has a similar mood of tranquility.

10. The Lyrist | Thomas "EidolonOrpheus" Ferkol | Cherubim I tended to skip the less exciting tracks on Cherubim at first, but now I love this for being sad and sweet and very pretty.

11. Skaian Birth | Mark Hadley | Song of Skaia

(Skaian Dreams Remix | Homestuck Vol. 2 (original), Skies of Skaia | Mark Hadley | Homestuck Vol. 1-4) The “Skaian” motif is very magical sounding. Like Voidlight, I find Skaian Birth very comforting. As of the posting of this, the Song of Skaia album seams to have bean eaten by the mass-reuploading...I hope it gets reuploaded as well.

12. Ascend | Joren “Tensei” de Bruin | Homestuck Vol. 10 This was such a good medley track. It was so ambitious in how many motifs it tried to pull together, and the fact that Tensei said they were tackling a music style that they hadn’t seen much in HS music before...and it all paid off spectacularly.

13. Terezi’s Theme | Toby “Radiation” Fox | Alterniabound What a great character theme. It’s pretty busy for a VG theme, but it seems to tell a whole story. I think it was The Lemonsnout Turnabout that established the harpsichord as a Terezi sound, and that was also a Toby Fox track, and it’s very effective.

14. Sburban Jungle | Michael Guy Bowman | Homestuck Vol. 1-4 (Sburban Countdown | Michael Guy Bowman | Homestuck Vol. 1-4) Early on I considered this just as iconic as Doctor, and I was surprised it didn’t get used more. (If you want to see it used effectively as a motif, check out #21 on this list.) It really helped the mood shift as the comic got more serious and dramatic.

15. Renewed Return | Marcy Nabors | Homestuck Vol. 10 Another great medley track. Whereas Ascend has kind of a party atmosphere, Renewed Return is solemn and dignified in a way that is very satisfying as a conclusion to a long narrative.

16. Another Chance | Eston Schweickart, Erik “Jit” Scheele | One Year Older Homestuck is freaking long, and very meandering, and I’ve forgotten many of the plot beats. But one way to remember them is if they have a killer tribute song. Another Chance always reminds me of a time when achieving god tier still felt like an incredible achievement, of how menacing Bec Noir was, and of the feeling of seeing a character resurrected. One Year Older appears to be another casualty of the reuploading...this was a beautifully cohesive solo album, and I hope it comes back somehow. Please give it another chance.

17. Knight in Two Dreams** | Malcolm Brown | (Tumblr) Hm. I think what I love about is that this track makes the time spent on the meteor feel real. The rhythm makes me thing of the passage of a lot of time. The music also makes me think of a sort of unease with being in close quarters with people and not being able to leave. And finally, it also has the sense it is waiting for something...as they are all waiting for their journey to be over.

18. Seer of Same-Colored Scalemate Combos | Alex Rosetti | (Tumblr) Speaking of Terezi’s harpsichord...This was the theme for a fun tile-swapping puzzle game made by insecureillustrator, which sadly I think is defunct now. In any event, the song is really fun.

19. Cuddlefish | Thomas Ferkol | Land of Fans and Music 2 Very sweet and calming. I like thinking of quieter moments in the HS multiverse, like the trolls started SGRUB.

20. Purple Bard | Gec | coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A I wish I knew more music words because I want to say what I like about this song is...the...mixing?? It’s very immersive, there are a lot of layers to it that contribute to making it creepy and kind of hypnotic.

21. Forever / Beta Version / The Deeper You Go | Michael Guy Bowman | Moebius Trip and Hadron Kaleido The instrumental tracks on MTAHK all give me a sense of depth of time, the remoteness of Skaia and the Medium, and the cyclical nature of SBURB. Spooky. It all makes the story seem much bigger somehow.

22. Three in the Morning (RJ's I Can Barely Sleep In This Casino Remix) | Clark “Plazmataz” Powell, Robert J! Lake | Homestuck Vol. 1-4 I love this one largely because it is nostalgic from when I first got into Homestuck in 2012 and for a while only had Volumes 1-4 to listen to (I didn’t discover the Bandcamp page until later). It might have to do with the fact that it’s sandwiched between Sburban Jungle and Doctor on the album, but it’s a fun and yet soothing track.

23. Superego | Yan "Nucleose" Rodriguez | coloUrs and mayhem: Universe A This captures a mood that I can’t put into words. I’m not sure if this was composed as a Vriska track, but if it wasn’t I’m glad it ended up as one, because it’s a feeling I don’t think any other song has.

24. Skaia Ad Infinitum | Andromeda's Cadre | Beforus This reminds me of all my old favorite DDR tracks. The melody makes me think of the changing Spirograph that represents Skaia.

25. Dreamers and the Dead | Thomas "EidolonOrpheus" Ferkol | Alterniabound This and Cuddlefish have always had a similar feeling to me (moreso than other Thomas Ferkol tracks). I like to think about exploring the dream bubbles as analogous to swimming through Alternia’s oceans.

Honorable mentions to Rustblood and It Be Like That Sometimes, which are only not on this list because they are technically Hiveswap and not Homestuck. If Homestuck really is continuing, and if there’s going to be more Hiveswap, I’m very much looking forward to more music.

Hi! I’d like some help for my fantroll. I wanna keep her as a mutant, but I’d love some suggestions so she’s not too Mary-Sue-ish. Here’s the basics:

Name: Abiska Menura

I can’t find any readily apparent meaning for Abiska, so I think we should change it to Ligeia, a mythological siren. Menura is fitting and can stay, though! Ligeia Menura.

Blood color: Aqua (HAHAH GET IT?)

Now I notice you have her situated as both a teal-range mutant and a seadweller. I feel like to pull this off, you have to have a more cohesive-feeling reason. She can’t be aqua-blooded just because you want her to be. I think… that I want to bump her up to a cerulean-range mutant. This is because it will give her the capacity to have some psychic abilities- we’ll be utilizing the Siren theme that’s inherently built in with her lyre association.

To justify her seadweller attributes, we’ll say that she has chimerism. When she was born, she experienced a unique mutation that resulted in her having two blood types. Though she primarily presents with the blood characteristics of a cerulean-range mutant, some seadweller organs have started to develop. This means that when she was first hatched, her fins may not have been present, and she would’ve avoided suspicion on that front.

Planet: Alternia

Sign: Lyra

Lusus: Birdmom (a lyrebird with male plumage and webbed feet)

She is about in range for a bird lusus, so that’s good! I don’t know why she needs to have webbed feet, though? I guess it would make sense with the siren theme. Land/sky and sea combined… Just make sure to have Ligeia’s hive near to water and make it clear that birdmom’s kind often lives near water.

Strife Specibus: Harpkind (The Dragonhead Harp from Monster Hunter)

I don’t want to rely too heavily on the harp theme, at least not for her PRIMARY/initial weapon. The Dragonhead Harp is something she could alchemize once inside the game, maybe, but I wouldn’t make it her starting weapon. For her beginning place, I think maybe…. Scythekind? Sirens are often seen as psychopomps, guiding spirits who lead the recently deceased to the afterlife. So giving her a weapon reminiscent of the grim reaper seems appropriate.

Modus: Composer (you have to play a specific note to get an item, and holds 12 items)

Since you’re especially interested in her singing abilities, maybe make it a Note Holding modus instead. The inventory can hold 12 items, and the more important/larger the item is the longer she has to hold the note in order to extract it from her sylladex.

Backstory: Born in a brooding cavern, she was noticed by an unknown Jadeblood and was kept in secret until she was given to her lusus

Relying on a random friendly Jadeblood for help seems a little too easy. I think maybe her cries should’ve been hypnotizing, and so she managed to kind of mind control the Jadeblood into helping her out and protecting her until a lusus could choose her. As for Lyrebird mom, well, the difference in blood color wasn’t quite significant enough for her to refuse to raise the child outright- and even if it was, Ligeia’s singing would probably have convinced her, too.

Personality: Perky, a bit of a dreamer, she’s always “Playing the Harp”. She’s OBSESSED with the troll version of Gorillaz, and wants to learn how to play all of their songs. Even though she’s a midblood, she’s surprisingly calm, but can be SUPER vicious if provoked.

I can’t believe you haven’t made a joke about her being interested in the troll version of the band AQUA. Or The Beach Boys. Hehe. I hope she’s at least a huge fan of Troll Plastic Beach. I like you having her as a bit of a head-in-the-clouds type. I think her personality could use a little more bolstering? Like her not being outright aggressive, but perhaps being two-faced. You’ve made her a heart player and I definitely agree, but a bit part of heart players is that they tend to have a sort of fragmented self. Dirk splits himself into AI components, which is a pivotal part of his character, and Nepeta and Meulin both roleplay.

So your character should have some sort of self-division or way of performing herself. Maybe by taking on roles of characters from her songs? Wanting to be a star herself? Or maybe even taking on roles and acting as someone who tears down the phony images of others?

Ancestor: The Redeemer, a mutant rights activist who gathered followers through song. She was slain by one of the Condense’s assistant when she was shot in the throat.

Very symbolic death right there. So she did protest songs? Really interesting!

Quadrants: She only has a moirail, Sarlut.

Land of: Pluck and Echo (LOPAE)

You’ve not mentioned anything about your desired quest, so it’s hard to really gauge whether or not this is a good fit. I think Echo is definitely a good aesthetic choice for her personal theme, though! I might alter pluck to be something more quest-oriented, unless pluck is actually relevant to your planned quest.

Consorts: Easily Distracted Steel Grey Lemurs who Like Dancing

As cute and HILARIOUS as that idea is, I’m going to have to veto it because of the amphibian/reptile rule. We’re going to go with Turtles. Because the first lyre was made out of a turtle shell and all that. Turtles.

God Tier: Bard of Heart

I LOVE this for her. A passive destroyer of self. Now, technically, if we were being totally canon compliant, she couldn’t be a Bard because it’s a male-exclusive class. But I’ve always found that rule so… so silly. So I’ll overlook it here, if only because she’s already a mutant. Maybe the rules don’t know how to handle her. Anyways- she has an ability to passively and even accidentally destroy a person’s individuality- which relates back to her mind control abilities/siren’s song. Her passive manipulative tactics that I suggested can feed really easily into this role.

But when she becomes more actualized, she’d be able to passively destroy THROUGH self, taking hold of her identity and her pride in it and allowing others to do the same and creating massive, powerful force through this identity and self of personhood, through soul. Her inverse, Maid of Mind, also allows her to actively create logic and action, creating understanding for those around here and driving decision-making.

Extras: She’s a VERY talented singer. She wears the hoodie out in public to hide her fins. Since her horns are so big, she listens to music through earbuds which have her sign on them.

So, what are your thoughts? I hope she isn’t too bad.

She’s not bad at all! I like her quite a bit, really. So let’s go on to the design!:

First and foremost, the hair, glasses, skirt, and shoes were all edited from this fan-troll spritesheet here.

I’ve also made two versions of the sprite- one with more hemoanonymity, because I think broadcasting her bright color would be a little dangerous. But I also recognize she’s the descendant of a rebel, so she might be willing to take the risk!

Now let’s go head-down:

Horns: The horns you gave her were a little thick and a little visually busy. I gave her some thinner horns to balance the design better and only gave it one offshoot, so it would still look like the lyre without complicating things overmuch.

Hair: I wanted to keep it short and keep the overhanging bangs as reference to your original design, but also wanted to make it curlier and more voluminous. I based the style somewhat off of art of Orpheus that you see, but it also just looks nice and flowy and pretty. On the more blatant blood color sprite, I also added the dyed bits to her bangs in her new blood color (#2389e8).

Glasses: I didn’t want to just rip off of Feferi’s goggles, so I decided glasses instead. The circle glasses with the two-toned colors and the twin bridge are a direct reference to a picture of Noodle from a recent Gorillaz album! I thought it’d be a nice reference to her passionate interest.

Symbol: I redrew it to make it a little more defined and also put it in her new blood color, #2389e8.

Skirt: I wanted to have her in a nice flowy skirt as a reference to the ocean/sirens and mermaids in general. I put it over some black shorts, though, so she’d still have a nice functional outfit. The skirt is more of an aesthetic and themeatic addition!

Shoes: I wanted to give her some black shoes without them being quite as generic, so I gave her some shiny black slip-ons. They’re cute and are probably the kind of shoes you’d see a young performer wear at a recital!
