this is going to sound lame but my secret to combining a variety of styles cohesively is only ever owning a maximum of 4-5 colors

A scream echoed through your house in Jackson, and as time stilled, and both their hearts jump-started, they came running towards your voice.

"What happened?"

Joel's eyes were clouded with fear just as the fingers gripping his gun trembled with worry.

"are you ok?"

If you don’t mind me asking, what traditional outfits would each turtle (family web au) like wearing?

I’m thinking like they have an outfit they specifically wear for a season (doesn’t have to be their favorite season just the season they wear it) or a social event.

Like Raph having this heavy layered with fake fur outfit for the winter. Idk I’m suppose to be sleeping right but I’m not, I’m thinking about turtles in fashionable clothing.

I'm actually really bad when it comes to fashion lol. (personally and with art. My idea of a cool outfit is when my hoodie and teeshirt match fandoms lol)

But i've got a few doodles of some types of things they would wear on like normal days.

Donnie pretty much lives in teeshirts and like those really comfy jeans that fit perfectly along. If he wears his jacket unless the weather is very much against it. He wears more protective clothing when he's working on mechines and the like. Usually overalls with at least a teeshirt, though he'll wear longer sleeves and gloves if he's doing something particularly dangerous. Winter, he has his regular jacket, a lighter winter jacket and a hat and boots. He doesn't like wearing scarfs or particularly bulky clothing, especially if he's working.

Mikey, on the other hand, loves bulky clothing. Bulky and patched and basically anything with some personality to it.

Leo will do either bulky shorts or skinny jeans, there's no inbetween. Usually some sort of tank top/sports jersey. He doesn't really like the cold, so his winter clothing is being bundled up to the point the only thing you can see is his eyes. Also a long ass scarf b/c he like how weird it is.

Raph actually dresses fairly nicely once Mama got him clothes tailored to him. (he was excited to finally be able to wear stuff that wouldn't rip the second he put it on). But for a while he wears button up shirts with vests and nice pants b/c he liked the way it looked and he hadn't worn anything like that before without destroying it. FOr winter he wears a lighter jacket than the rest, a scarf, and some earmuffs : )

for fancy parties, i'm not entirely sure. I think Mikey would wear as bright of colors as he could. Raph would wear something nice but not particularly standout-ish. Donnie something very basic without a tie or bowtie (b/c i don't think he likes fabric wrapped around his neck.) Leo is a bit of a gamble. He's either wearing the most eyecatching thing he could get his hands on, or he somehow got away with wearing sweatpants in protest. Depends on how agreeable he's feeling about said party lol.

• ever since I had that tumbler poll I'm questiong myself if wallace should work 3 jobs rather then just one bc no way can he afford that bad of a apartment and provide for himself and scott on a 15$ paycheck so yeah it's reasonable. Wallace works as a telemarketer or some office job (makes more but is fucking boring). Old navy (makes less bit is pretty simple and he can hear his coworkers gossip and pick a few songs) and at a diner (it's in the middle honestly. Makes a god amount of money and is decent, works his ass off but still gets to hear whoever can gossip but sorta wants to quit. Stays at the job bc of one coworker who begged him to stay)

• Mobile works in a library or Spencer's (IK mobile works in some random ah office job but seeing how the rest of the crew in the scott pikgrim series has a pretty minimum wage job I sorta see him start off slow in a new province and have a relaxing ot fun job. Library seems to suit the guy because uts laid back and quiet. Also I took the inspiration from the anime "book seller Honda-San". BUT...but (idk my friend suggested this to me) but mobile: the most average lookin ah guy in the whole entire franchise working...in a Spencer's...it's pretty fuckin funny- just imagine you see some office worker lookin ah dude stocking up on the spiked collars with the most bland lanyard) but I'm sticking with the library idea

• Mobile is a music nerd. He plays a few instruments when he was younger and sticks to playing the piano and sometimes the violin. He likes jazz but likes fast paces music for one thing....rhythm games- idk why but I sorta imagine wallace, scott and mobile going to the arcade one day, scott showing off his epick DDR skills and mobile absolutely DESTORYS HIM. DOUBLE PADS. EXTREAM OR INTENSE IDK AND ALL PERFECT TOO...and then scott never brings walace to the arcade again because he knows mobile would just show off again-

• Wallace is filopino (idk I just see him loving filo food, karaoke, bejng loud af at parties and come on. He loves to gossip) and mobile is half veitnamese and half Korean but is extremely white washes but by the time he reaches freshmen year of collage he actually wants to learn a bit more about both cultures and sorta enjoys trying to get in touch with his roots

• Mobiles parents names are Sam jin and April Nguyen-jin (nick named apple) (divorced) now you might he wondering abt thier names and...I just thought it would be funny to sorta name them after phone companies (like SAMsung and APPLE) because...COME ON THERE HAS TO BE A REASON WHY HIS NAME JS MOBILE

• Mobile likes cold weather meanwhile wallace likes hot. Mobile likes to wear alot of layers during the winter so whenever ut gets too cold wallace immediately just snuggles up with him :)

• Mobile visits wallace whenever he's on break from the library job and helps him (ex: whenever wallace is at old navy or something he drops by and helps walace folds or tag any of the clothes while they talk)

• Joseph and mobile work at the library while wallace and Jimmy both work at the diner

Since Todd's pyshic powers are green. I look into the color wheel to see the opposite of green which is likena sorta pink and I just imagine that's what's mobiles powers might look like :) (also TV girl reference)

Mobile is one hell of a quiet guy. Dosnt like to talk often at parties or at clubs and tries to survive any sort of small talk BUT when it comes to wallace he enjoys long conversations about the most random shit that pops into thier heads. Eaither it's gossip from work, some random ass fact that mobile found out, or how to do X thing for Y...thing?

MOBILE CANT READ TONE like sorta- whenever someone is joking around him (especially wallace or other scott) he sorta...takes it seriously? Like a joke when other scott said and mobile just spitting out random facts on how its basically impossible for the chicken to cross the road without getting hit, depends on how fast the cars are going, What time of the day it might be, if the chicken were to walk to cross the road or jumo over cars. Really comes off to being defensive and he dosnt mean any harm so whenever someone like wallave was telling a joke he laughs it off, realizes mobiles confused as hell expression and just says "...that's a joke-" With mobile replying with "....oh yeah-"

Mobiles and wallaces dates usually consist of: museums, the aquarium, some fine dining. Any fancy shit mobile can afford, wallave would LOVE

Mobile overworks himself often and sometimes dosnt realize it. He sorta sees himself just simply finishing a task that he's SUPPOSED to finish in reality it was justa. Option if he wanted to do it or not. Even when he's working in Nintendo he gose into crunch mode often and gets tired more easily WALLACE on the other hand reminds mobile to be on breaks whenever he needs to and takes care of the guy (awh :))

In collage mobile majors in computer science or coding or game development. Whatever computer techy course, he just takes it and then ends up working for Nintendo so :)

Wallace has bad posture. Trues to go ahead and fix it himself but just gives up easily so whenever wallave is with mobile. Mobile just random slaps (lightly) wallaces back and reminds him to stand up straight

Wallace cracks his knuckles often or pops his neck and whenever he dose it makes a loud Crack or pop sound (yk the ones) and it freaks mobile out sometimes

Mobile is prone to carpal tunnel and migraines and has to wear those arm braces often and take those migraine pills too.

Like I mentioned before mobile is a deadpan sorta dude, monotone voice sorta stuff but when wallave is around he's...a bit more expressive.

EDIT: BOUNUS. MOBILE DOSE TAROT CARD READINGS i had this headcannons for MONTHS now and thought it would be silly and then i realize I did this so....yeah. I imagine whenever mobile and Wallace do morning cuddles and shit wallace is like "...yo what's my daily reading" mobile:"...okay let's see, 3 of cups-". Mobile learned how to do traot card reading easily. Like Todd mentioned before he had this picture memory thingy and can remeber scripts easily but its weak sometimes (*FLASH BACK TO THE TRAILER INCIDENT-*) so I imagine mobile dose the same when it comes to memorizing tarot cards meanings

Wallace/ or mobile sits really weird in chairs. Before living with scott, Wallace would sit... Basically like L from a death note or some shit, or one leg up while the other is crossed. He's been used to doing this a lot when he was still in high school while eating dinner with his family, but he soon grew out of it once he reached college. Meanwhile, for mobile, he's just been doing it. Somehow, he is still managing good posture tf

Mobile eaither has a good and fashionable wardrobe comsisting of dark or light academia sort of clothes (wallace didnt know what it was called so one day he just called it "collage professor drag") OR he has that one goofy ah cartoon character looking closet where it's just the same thing over and over again

Mobile tends to chew on his pen often. Was a bad habit he had back in elementary, worsen when he was in highschool due to alot of extra credit and after school programs he was in, collage it got even worse because he mainly used pens and got ink EVERYWHERE

Like hollie and Kim. Joseph and mobile work together in the library, they don't...really talk to eachother but he dose eyeball Joseph sometimes whenever knives brings stephen along to the library and joseph just stares at stephen. Mobile couldn't tell if Joseph likes stephen or just hates him

Wallace brings mobile to some of the sex bob-ombs practices and shows. mobile just watches patiently like romona, wallace and neil would but afterward give pretty decent advice to knives since... he experienced piano player. And whenever stephen ask mobile for advice in general; mobile would just give them a rating out of 20

Another reason why mobile dosnt show alot of expression and is mainly just a deadpan sorta dude is because when mobile was in highschool he had braces and it sucked ass for him. It hurts all the time and he had those rubber band things in his mouth MEANING whenever his friends made him laugh or he had to yawn THAT SHIT HURTS WHEN IT BREAKS. Later in his adult life he just gets retainers instead

Sometimes at night. Whenever mobile comes home tired and worn out He and wallace just silently ea0t dinner and cuddle while they drink wine

I'm happy over a simple shirt I bought yesterday.

Feeling a need to walk, but tired of being cold, I went to the Mall of America. Some say it's about a mile to walk one loop inside the mall. After I strolled all three main levels my Garmin came up with 2.6 miles. It's a little wonky using the GPS indoors, so I'm not making any guarantees.

People watching is excellent. This has got to be the most diverse place in Minnesota. I heard English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian (?), Japanese, and more. People are in all shapes, sizes, political persuasions, gender identities, colors, attitudes, and manner of dress. The huge mall is next to the airport, and Minnesota doesn't charge sales tax on clothes, so I've heard the place gets plenty of out of state shoppers.

Does your bingo card have an ex football player with purple hair? Wait, is that the ex football player with purple hair in a wheelchair or the ex football player with purple hair shuffling along in a silky track suit? How about a cute young mom with three adorable children? Well, yes, but do you want the one with three girls, or three boys, or two girls and one boy? Because they are all there.

I like that I didn't see any of those silly, virtue signalling signs declaring All Are Welcome Here or We Respect All People. Those signs are not necessary because it just happens. All these different people all got along without placards telling them to.

Sure, I wanted to holler at a parent with a triple stroller (filled with three adorable children, two boys and one girl - BINGO!). She had stopped in the middle of a busy hallway to read her phone, causing chaos like Prius dawdling in the left lane of a busy highway.

But I wiggled around them quietly, as did other walkers and shoppers, and went on my way. Also I really can't complain because 25 years ago I was a parent with a double stroller (reasonably looking dad, two boys), taking winter walks there with my young kids. Surely I had been in someone's way.

At Old Navy I decided to go inside. Prices at my once-beloved LL Bean have exited my comfort zone. I also wasn't pleased with the quality of the last three items I purchased there. Eddie Bauer prices are high too ($85 for jeans? Please!) but EB at least has perennial steep discounts. Though I rarely shop Old Navy, I've always had a good experience there.

This long-sleeve tech shirt was marked at $22 (not bad) and just $11.50 (whoo hoo!) after the always-available Old Navy sale price. It was sort of a two-for-one in that I love how it looks and feels AND I didn't spend much money. I'll be back.

All my other tech shirts are from races. They're comfortable for exercising or sleeping on cold nights, but I'm not a fan of the graphics on some of them. Displaying "2016 Twin Cities Marathon" is okay with me, but I don't care for the word "Finisher" on the shirts. It looks odd to me, no better than "Participant" or "I did this." At least that one didn't have "Finished in 16,422nd Place."

yep! not like super neatly or whatever but it gets remade every morning to prevent the cats from causing problems.

nooooope. i've got my masters and that is more than enough for me. i've actually told my husband that if i start making any serious noises about going back to school, he has my permission to yell at me.

i'm genuinely not sure any of my day jobs are that exciting lol. uhhh i designed and administered sharepoint online websites for a major canadian university for a while and hated every second of it despite making bank while i did it. god i hate sharepoint so much.

nope, never learned how to drive stick shift unfortunately.

just the one, which will be a week old as of tomorrow 👀 it's a stylized rendering of the solar eclipse! my husband and the man of honour at our wedding also got matching tattoos, so it's a very sentimental tattoo for me.

Remember my first crochet sweater from forever ago? The one that turned out like shit?

Frogged it and now it's a knit 😎

So to recap; I tried making a crochet sweater based on a YouTube tutorial like years ago, and although while making it I could tell it didn't seem... right... I just kept on telling myself to "trust the process" and that "it'd turn out okay in the end"

It did not

The sweater ended up being so square-ish and massive I could've fit three of myself inside of, going well beyond "comfy oversized sweater" straight into "clown clothes" territory. It was bad. On top of that, although I tried to get the same yarn to do the top of the sweater in a pastel purple, I ended up leaning about this thing called "dye lots" the hard way, as the yarn I had needed to finish the sweater ended up being a completely different shade from what I had used for most of the sweater.

So yeah. The sweater turned out like shit, and I wore it maybe once before putting it into my closet and refusing to even look at it for like IDK two years.

Now I have some nicer yarn that I'd like to make something with, something preferably knit because I like knit fabric more than crochet, but I don't want to practise knitting clothes with that nicer yarn. And so I figured, if I frogged this crochet sweater I could then practise knitting sweaters, reuse the old yarn (=don't have to buy jack shit), and maybe remake this failed sweater into something I'll actually wear

And so the sweater was frogged, this being all the usable yarn from the project. Pastel purple dyelot on the left while the more pinkish yarn (the stuff I had originally used while trying to convince myself it wasn't pink)

So yeah. Now admitedly after frogging the sweater I did lowkey think about just trying to re-crochet the sweater and did kinda start on that, but I very soon realized that I probably wouldn't have enough yarn to remake the sweater the way I wanted to, and just trying to crochet with it made me double down on how much I just I don't like crochet fabric as clothes. It's just so bulky, man

So I got to knitting instead. And because I'm deranged I chose to... mostly wing it. I did look at a few YouTube tutorials for top-down raglan sweaters to get an idea of what I was supposed to be doing, but in the end, I do kinda learn the best by just winging it. But what I did make a big note of while remaking the sweater was just trying it on as often as possible, just to make sure I didn't make it as oversized this time.

I did want to make this process relatively simple though and because I didn't want to risk losing out of yarn at an inconvenient point I chose to skip the stripes of the original sweater and just make it a simple two-color sweater. This also had the added benefit where I was able to use up all of the purple yarn on the yolk and just go as far as I could go with it before switching to black.

But yeah, the end result?

It's decent!

Like let's be real, my raglan increases are an absolute fucking mess and the shaping on the yolk is a little funny, AND I did make the collar too big (I was so worried my giant head wouldn't fit through so I made it way bigger than it needed to be, but honestly it's better that way than it being way too small. It looks a little silly but it's not the end of the world), and the sleeves ended up being like maybe 4-5 centimeters too long they could've been a smidge shorter.

But aside from that?

I'm honestly really happy with it

Because the fabric is super soft and nice, it's not too bulky, and most importantly, it fits me. It's not obscenely massive on me, it's just the right size.

And really, that's all I wanted. A sweater I'd actually USE, and yeah, I'm gonna wear the hell out of this next fall/winter when the weather gets cold again. It's not perfect, but it's more than good enough for me. And most importantly, I now feel infinitely more confident in maybe using that nicer yarn sometime soon to knit something

Now what the fuck am I gonna do with the leftover yarn 'cause boy howdy do I have a ton left

Whenever stephen is back home from work, they usually sit down and watch movies together or during dinner. Young neil yaps about a movie, and stephen replies with a dry and simple "mhm, " "yeah", "that's cool -" and sometimes the occasional questions. Neil doesn't mind since he knows stephen is tired

He sometimes steals money from stephen but not all the time. He pays stephen back quickly by making some dinner (that he fucked up)

Favorite games have to be anything RPG based and zelda. Maybe he also got into the virtual world hype like UB funkies, webkinz, neopets, or club penguin (mainly UB funkies)

If he dose have a job I imagine he'd work at the second cup just to hang out with Stacy more, maybe a comic book store, or at no account video with Kim so he can watch more movies for free

I imagine his interest related friends has to be hollie (bc I see hollie also being a cinaphile), Joseph (because he wants to learn how to operate cameras and stuff and make it look cool by editing) and Jimmy (fellow zelda and starwars fan)

He has acne/ acne scars and back acne (I think that's the term) and he always picks/scratches at it

Speaking of picking. He always picks at his fingers and sometimes peels off a good chunk to the point it is bleeding bad, so he has bandaids on his hands and fingers most of the time. He doesn't mind which sorta bandaid. He likes the colorful ones that have like a character on it, but he worries if he might be too distracting for him when he's in class

I love how ironic it is for him to wear a heart on his sleeve sorta shirt even though he doesn't really show his feelings that often. He has the same ass stare all the time, and I think it's silly. So I just imagine he would say whatever is in his head without second thought, or he would mumble it if he thinks it's weird. So whenever he talks about his feelings, like how he feels about the whole "band abandoning him" situation, he actually means It and doesn't really hide it at all.

Steph (Neil's older sister) got him a pair of headphones bc thier parents were always fighting and a Walkman so he can listen to some music. He still uses those headphones to this day even though their broken in half, the sound quality is terrible and the ear puff thingy is crumbling

Whenever he goes out to the mall or out with anyone, he either has his hands in his pocket or out, bc someone has to grab onto his wrist so he wouldn't stop and stare at things (it's mainly Stephen and Kim who has to grip onto his wrist and drag him along. He dont mind tho :/ meanwhile stacy just holds onto his hand and stares with him)

Whenever stephen has a day off and he sees neil playing video games, he asks neil if he finishes his homework. If neil says no, stephen takes away his Gameboy color, keep it in his room and tell him to do his homework. If yes then stephen would just shrug it off, ruffle his hair up and say "ight, cool"

Neil was probably the first to find out that stephen was gay when stephen brought Joseph over (make of that as you will)

He writes movie reviews online and hopes people will see em but his writing skills are ass and he just describes whatever he can and think "yeah that's good enough"

Stephen treats neil like family since well, steph (Neil's older sister) isn't in contact with him that much. And because of the name similarities, neil just treats stephen like steph

His "stuffy" are those hot rubber water bottles (I forgor the name but you pour hot water into them and they help you with cramps and aches and shit-) with a wool sleeve wrapped around it

Since this rp acc is a bit related to the stephen acc. He likes bone crusher a lot! Since he mainly stays home, he has a new buddy to talk to and hang out with. But he leaves all the chores to stephen like cleaning out the litter box or something

Ever since he found out stephen had a cat he was pissed that stephen named the cat "bone crusher" not Link, Skull Kid,Meowth,Litten or Shinx or somthing cool like that but he continues to call bone crusher, bone crusher.

He has a bike and takes it to his college campus. He has the gear for it, too. Helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and gloves. Stephen said if he doesn't wear em he'll get into an accident, and that scared neil

Idk why, but i imagine him being the type to collect... something! Maybe anything to fill up his already messy room!

Summary: you and Rowoon root for the same team and the sexual tension between the two of you escalates after an important match. (This piece feels very experimental to me)

All those chants to cheer up the players, the disappointed noises when someone missed a chance, the tension while the victory was not yours, too colorful banners to promote both teams: everything was almost too much but you were with your crew and Seokwoo was part of if. He looked so impossibly hot wearing the colors of your team and you held each other's hands, sometimes very tightly. Despite that being one of the coldest days of that month nobody could feel it up on the grandstand.

Now that the match was finished and you all were officially in the final round, you started to feel chills run down your spine in the pub. "I gotta go home" you confessed close to Seokwoo's ears since the rest of your friends talked too loud around you. Your tone contained a grain of sadness but your coat weren't adequate to the cold of 8 PM.

"I'm going with you" you read from your best friend's lips as he rescued your frozen hands on the table.

That was not a long way towards your place from there but you would love to have his company. As you walked, the winter wind blowed the team flags that a few people still had around, as well as your hair and it made you shudder harder. Seokwoo reached his longs arm around your shoulder and pressed you against him, in hopes he could warm you. The fact that he was naturally a tall, protective guy often made you doubt that he could reciprocicate your feelings for him.

"Thank for taking me home, darling. The crew must be missing you" you said in front of your place.

It's Repotting Day!

aka i am Literally So Normal about my african violets

(for reference here are the Before pictures)

elmyra got the most work done today—i divided her 3 crowns into separate pots. allow me to introduce, l–r: elmyra prime aka big elmyra (henceforth just "elmyra"), little elmyra, and baby elmyra. they're all super leggy rn, not sure if that will change now they're separated and no longer have to compete with each other. you will notice baby elmyra has moved into little sister's tiny pot- she will be moving into little sister's old spot on the suction shelf as well.

pinky was business as usual, but i do think i managed to get her sitting straight in her pot for real this time! her neck (now buried) has like a 90° angle in it, it's so dumb. pinky, elmyra, and the brain all got graduated to tall 4" pots bc they are big girls and also bc pinky and brain's cheapie purple outer pots were well and truly finito.

side-by-side like this you can really see the color gradation in the brain lineage—l–r, brain, little sister, and baby brain. little sister moved from the tiny pot to a short 4" like little elmyra and baby brain, bc she was super rootbound and she deserves it. you can see her foliage is more compact than baby brain's though, because of the tiny pot. after her current flowers, she probably won't bloom again until she matches baby brain's sprawl. i actually didn't do anything with baby brain today—she moved into the big pot relatively recently, so i'll leave her alone until next winter. you will note brain looks intensely leafy in this photo; it was incredibly difficult to cram the soil into her pot at the very top bc of how many fucking leaves she has. pinky was a little hard, too, but brain and her children are on another level.

the propagation box also got a restock, although not with nearly as many leaves as i removed (intentionally and un-) during today's operations. i only added 4, because there were already 4 growing in the box; the rest i regretfully (read: catholic-guiltily) threw out bc honestly i already have more violets than i can handle.

the ferns also got new soil and big fern moved into a tall pot as well bc she was also super rootbound and i want her to continue to grow large and luxurious. not that i really have space for her to luxuriate in—

—as you can see, my shelf situation is ridiculous. it is cantilevered out from the windowsill and as such has a visible downward slant due to the weight of all the plants; i super need to figure out a bracket situation underneath so it doesn't dump my best beloveds all over my bed, and i need to do it before i can get bigger and better (and not-plastic) pots for the big girls. the elmyras are all in baggies bc i wanted to baby them after the trauma of their separation. all the others, i'm leaving to the open air bc hopefully they're all robust enough to withstand the stress of today's repotting, but if they start to look like they're going backwards i'll bag them, too (even if i have to buy roasting bags or something to even fit over brain and pinky—even in her diminished state, i could barely squeeze elmyra into the 2-gal bag, and not without tearing the mouth to make it wider).

so that was today's big adventure! it took i think a little over 2 hrs and my leg fell asleep so bad sitting on the concrete and i got so fucking cold working in the shade so the violets wouldn't get sunburned and my back hurts! but my girls all look so happy!

January 2024 Reading Wrap Up

As y'all know, I started this blog anew to record my thoughts on some books I read. Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of reading a lot more books than the average human should, and they knock each other out of my noggin. This one was...rough. Painful, even. This made me retroactively rate the other occult books I read higher just to cope.

3/10 - Meh

Heartbreaker | Julie Garwood [reading challenge]

I was hoping this one would be fun, considering the author is from Missouri and the summary seemed promising, but the main male character (not the antagonist) came across as a creep the whole time. I hated him very much.

4 to 6/10 - Mid-Tier

Sigil Magic for Writers, Artists, & Other Creatives | T Thorn Coyle [reading challenge]

With all due respect to Mx. T Thorn Coyle…this book sucked. It originated as a zine and tbh it should have stayed that way. There was a lot of fluff to get the page count up that could honestly have been removed (and should have been). I didn’t feel like I came away from this one learning anything new about sigils or how to incorporate them or my writing into my craft.

The Whittiers | Danielle Steel [reading challenge]

Unlike my surprisingly good experiences reading The Wedding Planner, The Whittiers was a sludge to get through. It was a bit annoying to hear Danielle Steel talk so much about how the characters weren't rich when they were clearly living a rather rich lifestyle without much financial problems in the beginning, and I eventually gave up on the book. The characters just...weren't too compelling to trudge through the repetition for.

The Stranger Upstairs | Lisa M Matlin

YOU. This book took a bit too long to get to the point (the plot), but at least part 2 was absolutely riveting and the epilogue was intriguing. I honestly think None Of This Is True by Lisa Jewell did this better, even though The Stranger Upstairs is more about a house than a person. Just...read None Of This Is True instead. Trust me.

Liber Null and Psychonaut | Liber Kaos | Peter J Carroll

Part of what I'm doing is research into chaos magic, starting with its foundational texts. And boy howdy, is this a severely middling book to me. Pointlessly obtuse, refuses to get to the point, spends too long sucking Aleister Crowley's dick... But utterly fascinating from a retrospective point of view, seeing what chaos magic looks like now.

7 to 8/10 - Good With Caveats

Dracula | Bram Stoker [reading challenge]

I'm going to beat Bram Stoker with a broom. Good with the caveat that you have to read it with the context of it being a product of its time. Also, post-vampire Lucy Westenra can GET SOME.

Strawberry Shortcake Murder | Joanne Fluke [reading challenge]

I "read" this one in audiobook form, thanks to my library having a Playaway of it. This one…aged a little poorly in some aspects. I might skip into more modern entries to the series rather than trudge through the older stuff to get there.

The Leftover Woman | Jean Kwok [reading challenge]

This one was a fucking TRIP. This book was full of twists and turns and physically pained me at points. It absolutely fucked me up and I was crying by the end, so I was lucky that no one came into work while I was reading it. I can't say much about it for fear of spoiling it, other than that it delivered upon what it promised.

The Midnight Library | Matt Haig [reading challenge]

This did NOT help with the crying! This book also fucked me up! It’s absolutely wild from the get-go. Content warning for animal death early on, though, because that did not help my anxious ass.

Marrying the Ketchups | Jennifer Close [reading challenge]

With all of the things this book was juggling, it ended exactly how it needed to.

Spells for Change: A Guide for Modern Witches | Frankie Castanea/Chaotic Witch Aunt

I was expecting something entirely different from this book.

Condensed Chaos: An Introduction to Chaos Magic | Phil Hine

Exactly what it says on the tin.

Magickal Servitors: Create Your Own Spirits to Attract Pleasure, Power and Prosperity | Damon Brand

Far more effective and to-the-point than Creating Magickal Entities was, but still far from perfect.

9/10 - Very Very Good

The Puppets of Spelhorst | Kate DiCamillo [reading challenge]

This book is one I've been meaning to read since the library got it in. It's an adorable story with great illustrations and plenty of drama for the 8- to 12-year-old in your life. Or for you, if you want a touching low-stakes story with an open ending.

Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under The Sea | Dav Pilkey [reading challenge]

From the guy who brought us Captain Underpants comes an adorable graphic novel about…honestly a lot happening, there was a lot. Luckily, even though it’s late in the series, there’s enough context provided that you can get a good grasp of the characters. Doesn’t have much to do with Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, though, so I’m deducting a point for that. I read Jules Verne's work and there was nothing about a dog-headed cop in there, nor a cat man who used to be a criminal and is having the worst redemption arc of his life.

Honestly, it was still fun.

Practical Gods | Carl Dennis [reading challenge]

Read for both my reading challenge AND my book club's Pulitzer Prize prompt, this is such a lovely collection of poems and really gets into the crossing of religious belief with modern problems. How does it do this as a book of poetry? I’m not sure! But it did! Definitely worth the multiple prizes it has won. I ordered my own personal copy and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Gods of Jade and Shadow | Silvia Moreno-Garcia [reading challenge]

I AM GOING TO EAT THIS BOOK BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH. We love a book in which the main character dies but that's not the end of their story!

Warrior Magic: Justice Spirituality and Culture from Around the World | Tomas Prower

I did a little write-up of this one.

Give-A-Damn-Jones | Bill Pronzini [reading challenge]

This one was great because the titular character respects women and protects minorities and keeps getting into situations. We love a guy who doesn't want to be here! This was the first Western I've read, and I think it was a good pick.

10/10 - Unironically Recommend To Everyone

Sappho: A New Translation | Mary Barnard

I was so worried that this translation would...well, straightwash Sappho, but from what I see, Mary is dedicated to translating them as close to intentional meaning as possible, including Sappho's bisexuality. Hell yeah.

Welsh Witchcraft: A Guide to the Spirits, Lore, and Magic of Wales | Mhara Starling

This is an in-depth look into a Welsh witch's practice. It's delightful to read someone talk about their own craft, and you can really tell that Mhara loves the place she lives in.

Exodus 20:3: A Monster Romance | Freydis Moon

We love a gay angelfucker romance between a trans man and an angel, complete with smut. Honestly, a great time.

The Salt Grows Heavy | Cassandra Khaw

Do you want the mermaid from The Little Mermaid fairy tale to murder people? Do you want a nonbinary plague doctor? Do you want to hear about murderous child cannibals and freakish surgeons? Do you want your protagonist to McFucking Snap? Do you want a happy ending in the weirdest way possible in this setting? Read The Salt Grows Heavy! A mere 112 pages that will fuck you up while you're trying to poop in peace!

I NEED TO SCREAM ABOUT SHADOWS OF ROSE SO BAD AGHHHHHH

Can we just talk about the amazing use of contrast when it comes to Michael's written words in the dlc??? Everything is so dark and distorted, meanwhile with Michael's words you feel the warmth despite the lack of a voice.

It helps too that they use golden yellow! A warm color, a color that represents happines, optimism, and friendship. The light that guides Rose to her journey to the crystal.

They really could've went and made Ethan a cool, badass, still sane mold monster but they didn't, they made him something that literally look like it came from the heavens. He really is an angel sent from heaven 🥺

Also I'm glad they didn't fully make Mia bad here, though there was the weird plot hole where she didn't tell Rose anything about Ethan... And from what me and my friends discussed it appears Rose has gone into a boarding school, resulting in less time to visit Mia. Probably why she mentions "I haven't seen Mom in ages."

Its super cool Rose is hella smart, though it ended up kinda kickstarting the bullying for her :( they're just jelly she's tons smarter and cooler than they'll ever hope to be.

The whole Winters home sequence wa soooo fluffy and cute it just made me giddy inside!!! :3 and when Ethan says "You have me." when Eveline screams that Rose is no more than a freak who has no friends made me break UGHH

And as usual, Ethan puts other before himself even willing to fight Miranda and possibly suffer a lot. But it wouldn't matter as long as his daughter was safe.

And what does Rose do? She sacrifices the only chance she has to be normal, all just to save her dad. Like he did for her back then!!!!

This DLC dude, i swear.... It really made my heart soar...

Ethan's words were like a soft light guiding and supporting Rose through the dark and creepy nightmare. It's not just what he said, but the way his words were shown was so on point. I was so excited to see what he'd say and at the same time felt relief every time he appeared, cause after all the creepy and intense stuff, he provided Rose with support and a moment to breathe.

I feel it's once again them not caring about making Ethan a macho badass. He's just a dude and he cares so much for his daughter, prioritizing her over anything else. And his appearance with soft, glowing words really accentuates that. He's just a soft dad 🥺🥺 and really, it's what Rose needed in that case. It helps build up their relationship up to the end where they hug and say they love each other. It wouldn't work as well, it wouldn't hit as hard, if for most of the game it was just a cool badass portrayal of Ethan who at the end suddenly shows a caring, soft side. I mean, I'm not implying anything about real life; but since this is a fictional story, it worked so well to have "Michael" guide Rose and help her while being portrayed as calm and reassuring, for us to invest and be touched by their final scene. I mean dude they really went for the feels and they wanted us to cry even harder than we cried at the end of the main game.

The boarding school idea is kinda good, although I wonder how and why they decided to send her away. They had seen how Eveline ended up when she felt that she didn't have a family to love her; why did they repeat that mistake with Rose? And yeah I'm wondering too why Mia didn't tell her anything about Ethan. Maybe Rose was too young to remember when Chris took her? But still like, there should be something, idk. And if they do leave it there and don't explore the Winterses' story in any future games, then the reason Rose didn't learn anything about Ethan will stay a plot hole.

Oh I feel that about her being bullied. I was bullied a lot at school too, and it always comes from kids that have something going on with their lives and just take it out on an easy victim. Though that kinda goes to show that Rose had received enough care by that point that she didn't turn full-on Eveline and never burst out using her powers to hurt other people. Or like, you know Stephen King's Carrie? That second doll puzzle where they prepare to throw something on the Rose doll from a bucket could have easily ended up in Rose losing it and killing them on the spot. And now I'm thinking, when K in the beginning cutscene tells her "You're not a freak!" or whatever, it feels like it's the first time Rose hears something like that. And it would make sense, considering it's a fake, only Miranda manipulating her. Geez Rose really doesn't have anyone to support her through this huh. Once again, Chris wants her to join his operation, but god forbid he supports her emotionally and helps her accept that she's not a monster.

No, only Ethan is there for her, and he's not even THERE. That "You have me" breaks me too, I'm going through Maxylobes' first time playthrough and seeing it again makes me wanna scream. My sweet Ethan! He really doesn't care if Rose has her powers or not, he only wants her to be happy in whatever way she wants to be. And he invests in it. Rose wants to remove her powers and is stubborn about it? Imma help my daughter out! Rose accepts her powers back in order to defeat Miranda and have a moment with me? I'm so very proud of my baby T_T

And yeah when Rose breaks the crystal, it's like she's at once and full-force reciprocating her dad's devotion. Like, it means a lot to me that in the main game, Ethan could have left the village at any given moment, yet he stayed and fought in order to save his daughter, even dragged himself back TO LIFE to complete that. And again, Rose has the chance to get out of the megamycete consciousness at any given moment, but she's determined to get rid of her powers… and it's a case of "the real treasure was the friends we made along the way" because she realizes that what she really wanted was not to get rid of her powers, but to embrace and accept them, and feel LOVED with OR without them. And Ethan's guidance, and support, and protection, and LOVE throughout the whole nightmare she was going through, no matter whether she got rid of her powers or kept them, is what helped her do exactly that. She didn't want to feel "normal"; she wanted to feel loved. Her classmates hated her for her powers; Chris seemed to only value her FOR her powers. And instead, Ethan shows her unconditional love, that powers or not, he loves her to death, literally.

Bruh I'm… I'm… I need a moment. I had so many reservations about this DLC but GOD did it give me so much more than I could ever have expected.

Many people likes them but some of them gets jealous because they are effortless in many ways. some people also describes them as charming (I've mentioned it before), romantic, creative and inspiration for others. They are ambivert probably. (zoidac sign: leo, gemini, aquarius or Libra getting heavy earth energy) some people gets jealous of their wealth and success. so I do think there's some conflict here and there. I don't know why a lot of cards popped out lol- So the first thing that came to mind with the reversals was "asymmetry". So they could have some of those with their face, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad thing. You can still have an asymmetric face and still be attractive. I also see a prominence of bone structure here, I'm seeing it being prominent in their face but also maybe in their stature? Getting a lanky structure and could be on a taller side. I'm seeing a bit of a copper skin tone. Something with their nose too, maybe a bit of a hooked nose? I also see this person being a foreigner. Could be native to west/south asia but I was thinking about the Mediterranean too. Their face really stands out as it's pretty striking.

The energy is pretty laid back. I see this person coming off as pretty non-chalant and cool. They're someone that you might not want to bother or might not acknowledge at first as they can also come off as quite busy and reserved to many people. People will notice that. I have a feeling he might be an exchange student or something like that, I feel like he also speaks another language too. People might think of him as a bit "slow" but that could be further from the truth. This person is pretty smart, they just like keeping to themself.
