Amanda's rant of pure sadness and abandonment that just kept going had me wheezing just as hard as Shayne. I feel like I just watched trauma happen.

Took You Long Enough
Tumblr media
Pairing: Shayne Topp x fem!reader
Summary: All of your friends are tired of you and Shayne flirting with each other even if you two claim your friends, so they have to take matters into their own hands
Requested by @winifrede , hope you like it!
You walked into work, feeling energized.
This has been your fifth year working at Smosh. You handled the writing in your first two years, then after a few cameo appearances, you became a full cast member.
You go to the kitchen first, wanting to grab a Celsius before the office meeting.
"Celsius? I'm surprised you didn't go to your regular coffee place down the street." a voice asks out loud.
You smile to yourself, turning around with your drink as you saw Shayne.
He was by the shelves, trying to find one of his snacks that he purposely hides in the back.
"Wanted to change things up a bit, but I also chose to stay sane and not jittery every 5 minutes."
Shayne laughs, giving you his signature grin.
"That reminds me, did you like that book I gave you? I know it wasn't your type of genre, but it made me think of you." He says, giving you his full attention as his snack was long forgotten.
Your eyes brighten as you dig in your bag on your side, digging to find it.
"I loved it so much! I think this has to be my top 5 books. Thank you for lending it to me." You said, offering it back to him.
"Anytime. Let me know if you want any other recs." He said. You two talked a bit more before you had to go, but what you didn't know was that a few of your friends were secretly watching you two.
"See how they flirt with each other? No wonder they have fan edits." Jackie points out from her chair. It was true, since you've been in more videos, the fans speculated how you and Shayne had great chemistry on screen and on vlogs. But Shayne always said that hasn't dated in a long time and you've been trying to see people (but haven't found anything long-term).
"I'm really surprised they haven't thought of dating each other by now. They seem really good together." Kimmy said, sighing.
"Too perfect." Damien mutters softly as he was working on his computer.
Jackie and Kimmy perk their heads up and look at their friend who hasn't realized what he said.
"Is there something you would like to share with the class?" Jackie asks, a bit too hostile.
Damien stops typing his keyboard as he realized that he made a mistake.
"I- um, don't know what you're talking about." Damien says, acting dumb.
Jackie and Kimmy get up in unison and corner Damien in his seat.
"Spill it Haas." Kimmy says, pointing her finger at her.
Damien raises his hands in the air for defense, squinting his eyes.
"Okay, okay! You got me." He says. The two girls lean in closer so no one could hear but them.
"Shayne and I were hanging out at his place and I noticed he got new books. I asked where he got them and he said he was borrowing them from her. After that, he just started rambling on and on about what they had in common. Then, he was thinking of asking her out on a date."
Jackie and Kimmy squeal almost jumping up and down.
"Wait, why hasn't Shayne asked her out yet?" Kimmy asks.
Damien sighs. "He's tried, but he's too shy when he tries asking her. I guess since he's still trading books with her, he still likes her, even if it's killing him that they're just friends.
"Well, we have to change that. And I know how..." Jackie says in an evil tone, looking at her desktop for her unfinished script for their upcoming video: Smosh Pit Theater.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of the cast was on set for shooting the fan fiction video. There was you, Jackie, Damien, Chanse, Angie, Kimmy, Courtney, and Shayne. Everyone was wearing their black turtlenecks.
You were all about to record as you explained the audience of what's to come.
"Hello everyone. Today, we will be showing a special type of Smosh Theater. Not only did some of our cast members wrote fanfiction about us, but we have a bigger budget as well!" Damien said at the camera.
Now it was Kimmy's turn to speak to the camera. "All of the budget was used on props and costumes! Our writers today are Jackie, Courtney, and Damien." they all take their individual bows.
"No one knows what the writers wrote so we are acting this out for the first time." you later explained.
"This is a serious production and we are serious actors." Shayne says with a pretentious voice.
"Without further ado, let us begin." Courtney concluded.
Since she had the floor, it was her turn first. Courtney wrote about the members surviving in a post apocalyptic world.
Then, it was Damien's turn. He wrote a fic that was about the smosh members in a spy noir setting where they tried to find out who killed their boss, Ian Hecox. You thought it was such a great script.
Finally, it was Jackie (who looked a little too giddy). She steps right up and holds a stack of papers in her hands. "This fanfiction was inspired by two of my friends, known to swap their favorite books to each other. I think it's hella cute."
You look a bit off-guard as well as Shayne, not knowing what will come next. "I was too eager to write this that it only took me a day. For our final fanfiction, I give you 'A Hidden Chapter of Our Love,' written by me."
She starts giving everyone their roles:
Shayne is the lead role, a soft-spoken bookworm
Damien was a theater kid who wants to go to Juliard
Chanse is the captain of the cheerleading team & the school bully
Courtney was the narrator *her lines will be italicized*
Kimmy was the ditzy cheerleader
Angie was the misfit, who often got in trouble
Jackie was a prestigious art student
and you, the only nice, popular cheerleader who starts to fall in love with the bookworm, Shayne
Everyone started wearing their costumes, fitting into their roles. You, Kimmy, and Chanse had pom poms, Shayne had books, Damien was wearing a black scarf with that hat from the musical Newsies, Jackie held a sketchpad, and Angie wore a leather jacket.
Everyone had a script in their hands and was ready to act out Jackie's script.
Scene 1: The Meet Up
It was the first day at Smosh High, and students were eager to have a memorable senior year.
Here we have Shayne, a shy scholarly student who wished to get out of his small town and go to his dream university.
"Just a few more months and I can get the hell out of here." Shayne said, shifting his glasses.
"Don't I know it." Damien replied.
Damien was Shayne's best friend since junior high. He was always the star of each show he's done. And like Shayne, wants to leave the bounds of his old life and rise like the phoenix he is.
They walk in the hallway to find their homeroom and accidentally bump into a group of cheerleaders.
"Watch it, nerds."
Chanse said, knocking down Shayne's books to the floor. Chanse was the most ruthless cheerleader at their high school. he often picked on people who weren't in the cheer squad or in a sport.
"Yeah, what he said." Kimmy replied.
Kimmy was your pretty cheerleader that all the students wished to have, but at times was pretty clueless. The two strutted away except for one cheerleader.
"I'm sorry about my friends." You said, kneeling down to help Shayne with his books.
That was the only nice cheerleader on the squad. She wasn't like the other girls, and had a dark secret that only two people know in this school. She can't help but notice how cute this blonde guy with his books.
You and Shayne can't help but snicker after those words.
"Don't bother, you don't want to be seen with a low life like me." Shayne said, brushing you aside.
She got up and shyly looks over her shoulder till she hears Chanse calling her to follow them to the lockers.
"I don't get why you're so mean to her, she was just trying to help." Damien says.
Shayne rolls his eyes.
"It's all just an act. Cheerleaders like her would do anything to be recognized to become prom queen."
Shayne stated as the two make their way to homeroom.
Scene 2: You Again?
Jackie and Angie were talking into their first period of AP Literature and see their friend since kindergarten come late and sit next to them.
"Well well well, the popular girl is gracing us with her presence." Angie said, pretending to bow.
"Ha ha, very funny." You said.
"You sure Chanse won't be upset when he hears you're talking with us?" Jackie asks, pretending to draw on her paper.
"No, I don't get why he told the squad we can't have any other friends outside of the team. I love you guys I want us to have the best senior year ever." You said.
Jackie and Angie aw as they all hug.
"By the way, the teacher told us that we got paired up randomly with the people in our class for the entire year. Me and Angie got paired up." Jackie says.
"And you got paired with Shayne in the back, you two will hit off since you both love-"
The cheerleader shushes Angie, looking around to see if anyone heard.
"You know you can't say my secret to the school. If word got out, I'll be done." You exaggerated.
Angie rolls her eyes as she puts her feet on the table.
"I'll meet up with Shayne but I'll see you guys after school?"
They wave goodbye while you make your way to Shayne who was reading a book.
"Whatcha reading?" You ask.
"It's called 'None of your beeswax.'" Shayne stubbornly says.
"Ouch." your friends said offscreen.
"Look, we're about to work together for the entire year. Can we try to at least tolerate each other?" you ask.
"Fine." Shayne says.
The bell rings and everyone gets out of their seats, collecting their things. The cheerleader and the bookworm decide to meet during the weekend to talk about their project.
When Shayne looks down at her seat, he sees that she left a book that she must have forgotten. He picks it up, reading the cover.
"Pride & Prejudice? Why does she have this?" He asks out loud.
What he doesn't know is that he's about to unlock your biggest secret.
Later on, the plot thickens as your character and Shayne begin flirt with each other.
"-and that's how Damien and I are banned from the local Denny's."
You laugh at his story as you tuck your hair behind your ear.
"You know, you're pretty nice when you're not rude to me."
"and you're not as stuck up as I thought you'd be." Shayne replied.
Shayne gives you a gaze, trying to figure out who is this girl.
"By the way, I've been meaning to give you back something." Shayne said, taking out your copy of Pride & Prejudice.
"Where did you get that?" you ask, dramatically.
"You left this on your desk. I thought this was for school but this wasn't on the reading list."
She takes it away from him, hugging it closely.
"Be careful! It's a hardcover." You whispered, peering down to see if it was damaged.
"You're nervous that I found a book, you're the only cheerleader in our AP Lit, are you..."
Shayne leans closer into her ear.
"A bookworm?"
You try so hard to stifle a laugh. You got back into character and look at Shayne.
"Yes, I've been hiding it since I was 12 years old."
Shayne gasps out loud, surprised. A smart cheerleader in his presence? He thought those never existed.
"Dear god." Chanse said behind the camera.
"Promise not a word goes out. Only my friends, Angie and Jackie, know. I'm just trying to get by till graduation, then I could be whoever I want to be."
"You know, I feel that. Your secret is safe with me." He says.
Scene 3: Everything falls apart
After her secret was revealed to Shayne, they start to hang out more. They trade books behind the football stands and often hid in the library, discussing the plots of each story they read.
"Wait, you like hanging out with that Shayne guy? I thought he hated your guts!" Angie says.
"His best friend is so hot, especially when he sings Santa Fe." Jackie giggles.
Damien hides his face in his hands, feeling slightly flustered.
"I thought so too, but he seems sweet. I'm happy thatI found someone who has something in common with me."
"Or rather someone you like." Jackie hinted.
"We're just friends, nothing more. Let's go, we're going to be late for class." You said, getting your bag and heading your separate ways.
What the girls didn't know was that Kimmy was in the background, hearing every word her cheerleader friend said.
"Chanse will definitely want to hear this." she said, running away to find him.
Switch to Damien and Shayne who were by the lockers, talking mindlessly.
"So prom is coming up, do you think you're going?" Damien says.
"Prom is just a stupid event where teenagers are stuck in a room all night secretly hating on each other's guts in the school's gym." Shayne says, annoyed.
"So... no." Damien asks.
"You out of all people should know that I am not going to set foot at a school dance."
"I thought you could ask that cheerleader out since you've been sneaking off after school to the library. I'm thinking of asking that girl Jackie, she's so talented, and pretty, and smart, and pretty..."
"Whoa. what makes you think I should ask her?" Shayne asks.
"You guys are like Benedick and Beatrice from Shakespeare’s finest works. You both hate each other with a passion. Then, you realize you two are meant to be."
"Yeah, meant to be..." Shayne repeats his friends words.
Towards the end of the day, Chanse and Kimmy confront there fellow cheermate.
"Look girl, we need you to focus our way to the Cheer championships. You can't be associated yourself with some geeks. It'll ruin our image." Chanse snapped.
"Yeah, what Chanse said." Kimmy said
"So drop your loser friends, or you're off the team." Chanse said, strutting away with Kimmy.
"Hey!" A voice cried out. The cheerleader turns around to see Shayne running towards her, hiding something behind his back.
"I know we shouldn't be caught talking together in public, but I wanted to ask you somethi-"
"Shayne." You stopped him.
She takes a deep breath and is about to say something that she will soon regret.
"I don't think we should carry on about us: being friends and all. You're just a bookworm and I'm a cheerleader. We shouldn't mix." You said, walking away.
Shayne takes out a bouquet of flowers and throws them to the ground.
Everyone behind the camera feels bad for his character as they aw in pity.
"Prom is a waste of time... and so does pretty girls that break your heart."
After that scene, everyone changed into their prom outfits. Once you've changed, you were going back to set but you could hear someone saying your name. You were about to ask who it was but you see Damien and Shayne with their backs toward you, oblivious that you were there.
"I think Jackie is trying to get me and her to pair up." Shayne says.
"Really? I haven't noticed." Damien lies, trying to hid Jackie's secret.
"Like the switching books concept? We've just been doing that for a couple of years, it's not that romantic."
Damien looks at his friend who was clearly in denial.
"It's just us, tell me what's wrong man."
Shayne takes a deep breath.
"What I'm scared most is the kissing scene. I just... don't want things to change between us."
You feel your heart go down in your stomach. Of course he doesn't like you like that. You were about to leave until you heard Shayne speak up.
"I'm falling hard for her. And every time I don't tell her how I feel, it's just another day of letting her go."
Damien sighs and pats his friend's back.
"You'll never know how she feels until you ask her."
They sound like they were about to leave, so you made sure you were out of sight. At that moment, you knew what to do now.
Everyone gets ready for the prom scene on set. Courtney resumes her narrative.
Scene 5: One Final Dance
It was prom night. Everyone was dressed and was excited for tonight's festivities. Damien and Shayne walk in to their school gym.
"Thanks for coming man, you know you didn't have to come." Damien says.
"Don't worry, I'm just here to make sure you don't look like a fool in front of Jackie." Shayne said.
Then comes out Jackie and Angie. Jackie was sporting a ball gown while Angie was wearing a slip dress with her signature leather jacket and converse.
"Hi Dami, you look very handsome." Jackie says, hiding her giggles.
"And you look as radiant as the sun, m'lady." Damien bowed, kissing her hand.
"Ugh. Gross guys." Angie said.
The new couple hook their arms and make their way to the dance floor.
"Forced to come here too?" Shayne asks Angie.
"Yeah, Jackie would have lost her mind if she didn't have her moral support system. Thank god I didn't have to handle her alone."
"Who else did you guys come with?" Shayne asks.
"That would be me." a voice said.
Shayne turns around and sees you in a really pretty dress.
"Wow" Shayne said, not following the script anymore.
Angie makes her way out as someone cues some slow dance music that wasn't copyrighted.
Shayne tries to look away, crossing his arms as he looks down at the script.
"Thought you didn't want to be seen with me?" He asks.
"I had a change of heart, especially when I quit the Cheer squad."
Shayne turns around, not believing her words.
"Why did you do that? Don't you want to be popular?" He asks.
"No, I don't think I ever did. I just got lost of where I belong in high school."
"And where do you want to belong?" He asks.
"In your arms."
Everyone oohs off screen as you and Shayne blush like idiots.
Shayne awkwardly places his hands around your waist as you wrap yours around his neck.
"Remember when you gave me back my book? I wanted to give you something else." You said, silently gulping.
"What did you want to give me?" Shayne shyly asks, thinking you'll just give him a kiss on the cheek.
"This." you whispered.
You lean in to Shayne and kissed his lips. Your heart was beating a thousand times per second. You pull away and look at Shayne who looked off guard.
You look scared, not knowing if this was the best idea. It wasn't until Shayne dropped his script and kissed you again, holding you tight against him. You held on too, as your script was long forgotten.
Everyone of your friends cheered on. You two couldn't tell how much time passed till you heard someone speak up.
"Uh, guys? We're still rolling." Garrett said. You and Shayne pull away, looking a bit out of breath.
"Sorry, got lost in the scene." Shayne said as you two picked up your scripts on the floors.
"Mmm hmmm" Chanse hummed as people started to break out of laughter.
After the scene was done, you all wrapped up the episode and congratulated each other on a job well done.
When you dressed back, you bump into Shayne unexpectedly.
"H-Hi." you nervously stutter.
"Hey, I was um, actually looking for you."
"Oh, what's up?" You said, already knowing what he wanted to ask.
"That kiss... it really meant a lot to me. But I, I wished we could had our first kiss after a first date."
"Shayne Topp, are you asking me out?" You asked, smiling.
"Yes, I'd love if we could go on a date together."
"Took you long enough." You said, making him chuckle.
You two went out of the studio to head to your favorite cafe down the street, walking hand in hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"All that hard work and they didn't thank us." Jackie says as Kimmy and Damien see that you two weren't around.
"I'm sure they'll say something later. For now, let them have fun." Kimmy smiled.
Damien gets a buzz from his phone and sees a text from Shayne.
He opens it and sees it's a pic with you and Shayne smiling with a message:
Thanks for the meddling, wouldn't be here without your guys' help. Will let you know how it goes.
Damien just chuckles and puts away his phone, letting his friend enjoy his first date with you as Jackie and Kimmy are already planning your wedding.

series masterlist
Shayne woke up much earlier than he planned to, so he found himself sat in silence at your shared dining table, staring at his mug of coffee. He unintentionally mirrored your actions in the exact moment that brought him to this point today.
The start of your relationship was a bit rocky, filled with pining and misunderstandings, but Shayne wouldn't change a thing about it.
Four and a half years, one shared apartment, and two cats later, everything felt right. Not perfect yet, but close. Your lives meshed together perfectly in every little way he never imagined it would.
You had similar food tastes, but neither of you liked the other person's favorite snacks or cereals, so no arguments about stealing. You like opposing chores, making it easily to share the weight. You showered at night, him in the morning. You liked the same books, so you shared your libraries now.
You'd been promoted recently, the position allowing a bit more flexibility with your schedule; so you and Shayne often woke up together in the morning and arrived around the same time at night.
The welcome addition of you to his friend group even meant that making plans was extremely easy. Shayne was also immensely thankful to have you with him at pretty much ever group outting.
He felt like you two knew every small thing about each other, so the secret he was keeping weighed heavy. For three months and twelve days he has been keeping the biggest secret from you, and everyone else.
The small velvet box sat in the bottom drawer of your dresser, stuffed between a pair of jeans that were actually too short for Shayne and a pair of Halloween themed sweatpants that matched a pair of your own. He could find it blindfolded at this point with how often he took it from it's spot, almost four times a day, contemplating when it would be the right time. It didn't feel right until earlier in the morning.
Just at 7:39AM, Shayne shot out of his sleep, his heart fluttering as he glanced over his shoulder, finding you softly snoring. His alarm hadn't gone off yet, the two of you didn't need to be up until around ten.
You had the day off and Shayne only had one shoot on his schedule, one you were going to be apart of.
You had been in a couple of shoots in the few years since your relationship had been known to the internet. Some fans had recognized you from the crew and casts personal accounts, especially Kimmy and Damien's.
You were very well received in your first appearance at Shayne's graduation, your speech bringing him and most of your friends to tears. After that you had been brought into an 'Eat It Or Yeet It" video, getting your first chance to witness your boyfriend's grave mouth first hand. After all of the love for you came in, you appeared on a Board AF' episode and began making memes for 'Who Meme'd It?'
You kept your privacy and boundaries still, your social medias were all still set to private, making it clear that you'd appear on occasions, but wouldn't join.
Shayne was fully supportive when you told him this after he mentioned the idea of you coming in for a video. You loved your job, having moved up into management of the shop, the promotion coming as a huge surprise to you, but not to Shayne.
Today you and Shayne were do on set at 2PM, shooting another TNTL episode, as per request of the other's lined up in the shoot. Damien and Courtney were quick to shoot Kimmy the idea, which wasn't hard to greenlight when the producer was your best friend. The easy part was over, convincing you was much more difficult. It tooka lot of coaxing from your friends, but Shayne remained neutral. It almost pissed you off that each time you asked him for advice on whether or not you should do it, he'd say it's up to you. Shayne couldn't help it, he still finds himself not wanting to push you too far, he still wants to protect you from anything he can. Most fans loved you, but what if it stops? He was still in shock of how much everyone seemed to like you. His heart couldn't help but flutter with pride and joy each time he read a comment that spoke highly of you.
It couldn't compare to the love Shayne has for you. He writes every small, tender thought he has about you down in his phone. He isn't sure when they started now, but it was definitely before you had started dating.
He started off using it to get things off of his chest, to write down the words of admiration that he wished he could tell you. Overtime it'd had begun to be every thought he'd had about you.
"I told the stars about you"
"you're the only one want to wake up next to"
"I wonder what goes through your mind when someone says my name"
Damien and Spencer have heard almost all of them, extremely supportive of him, always quick to call it sweet. That's then followed with different ways to call Shayne a simp. It turned into a joke between them, dubbing them Shayne's Simp Notes.
Gears were turning as Shayne shuffled from your bed quietly, grabbing his phone from the night stand before wandering into the living area, brewing coffee.
He took a deep breath, unlocking his phone as he finished replaying his morning in his head before noting the time. 8:17AM is when the perfect idea strikes, apparently.
Shayne was quick to open the notes app and begin writing out everything. He's loosely planned sketches for the show before but this was much bigger, he wrote out every detail to make sure it'd go right.
After about an hour of nonstop writing with Shayne's eyes glued to his screen, his coffee long gone cold, your yawn echos down the hall.
A smile stretches across his face as he finishes his last line, closing out of the app before setting his phone on the tabletop. You enter the room rubbing your eyes as yOu mile softly at Shayne. His ASU shirt covered your top half, an old pair of gym shorts covered your bottom.
Without a word, you made your way over to Shayne's lap, straddling him as you rest your head on his shoulder while he rubs your back gently.
The two of you tend to lay in bed together and cuddle if you're up before your alarms, enjoying the peace of being together before beginning your respective days. On the off days where that doesn't happen, you tend to make up for that lost time whenever you can, like right now.
"Ditch me on my day off, I see how it is." You chuckled as you sat up, rubbing your fingers lightly through Shayne's hair as he groaned playfully.
"I'm sorry, you're just dating an absolute genius, and I had a breakthrough, baby." Shayne laughed softly as you rolled your eyes; he moved to cup your cheeks pressing his lips to yours softly.
The two of you sat there for a bit longer, chatting until your alarms rang in your distant bedroom. You sullenly removed yourself from Shayne's lap, snagging his mug of coffee before disappearing down the same halway you'd wandered out of earlier.
"Ew, Shayne this is so old! How long have you been up?!" You shouted as your turned off the ringing, prompting a laugh from Shayne.
He makes sure to bring you a fresh mug, prepared just how you like as you're busy getting ready later. Your heart swelled at the small action.
It wasn't anything out of the ordinary from Shayne, he loved using small, subtle ways to show his affection. You always had fresh flowers from the very beginning of your relationship, sometimes you'd have more than one bouquet at a time. He's been a big fan of ordering things to you while he's away, off on shoots or even while hest at work.
He once ordered groceries to your apartment and video called you to cook together when he was on a trip to visit his parents.
You adored him so much. This relationship had far exceeded what you thought it could be, and you couldn't be happier. You're heart swells at just the thought of your boyfriend and everything he means to you.
The two of you arrived on set a bit early, giving you time to mingle with everyone. You were quick to dart from Shayne, heading toward Kimmy and Courtney across the room.
Shayne stood off to the side, staring at his phone screen once more. He felt like he was gonna scream, throw up, and cry all at once. He just needed to get through this. It's just an episode with his friends, he's gonna tell jokes and do his characters, his girlfriends gonna be there, it's gonna be amazing.
The box sat heavy on his thigh in the front pocket of his jeans, the outline barely concealed by the flannel he had buttoned over his white tee in an attempt to hide it.
Shayne eyed Kimmy, chewing his lip as she finally departed from her conversation with you. He was quick to grab her, requesting something weird of her. He needed you to go last, this wasn't something he wanted to have as the opening bit.
He kept the reasoning to himself, and Kimmy didn't seem too concerned about it so she happily agreed.
Once the others had arrived, Noah only setting the shoot back half an hour, they began rolling. You did great, getting Damien out quickly with an inside joke the three of you had shared after a trip to Universal one night.
Shayne was so nervous he found himself laughing his way through his joke, which eventually got Damien after it had become evident that Shayne wouldn't be able to stop his laughter.
His nerves had settled a bit, his arms wrapped around your shoulders, small kissed placed on your forehead between your bits, hidden by the divider.
You grinned as the end of the video neared, you being called to the yellow stool last. You filled your mouth with water and gave a thumbs up as you heard rustling from behind the divider.
"Okay, this isn't my turn but just wanna do this real quick" Shayne called out, peering around the corner as you shrugged.
After a few seconds, a toy crow flew over the clothing rack as Shayne belted out a purposefully bad impression of Train. You spewed instantly as cackling sounded from your boyfriend.
"I hate you!" You called out as you refilled your mouth, shaking your head.
"No, you don't." He called back, laughing.
The others' bits flew by as Shayne stood behind the divider, his wig and phone clutched tightly in his hands as he took deep breaths.
Shayne told you to close your eyes as he pulled on the curly, bob wig from a character of his.
You had a hate/love relationship of Shayne's simp character, Sir Phillip Simpne, so he felt it was right for this occasion. He had his phone hidden behind an open book as he moved to stand beside you on the stool. He cleared his throat, offering you a smile as your opened your eyes.
You groaned, keeping your mouth shut as you shook your head, determined to hold it over Shayne that he couldn't make you laugh with this bit.
"I haven't a poem for you today, m'lady," Shayne begun, trying his best not to laugh as you stared at him blankly. "I offer you something better. I bring love notes that I have written about the fair maiden before me today."
Shayne's palms felt sweaty as he looked down at his phone, deciding to drop the accent as he read to you, the giggles from others were silent to him.
"l'm gonna start from the beginning, kind of," He smiled, nodding as he looked up at you, removing the wig. "I wrote 'I never planned to like you this much and never planned to think about you this often' right before we started dating."
Shayne couldn't look at you as he felt tears prickle at his eyes, his throat running dry as he knew he'd run out of time.
Nobody in the room was counting anymore. Once Shayne had gotten more serious, the air in the room shifted and everyone grew quiet.
You sat in the chair, head tilted in confusion when Shayne had dropped the character, the game leaving your mind all together as you tried to process what was happening.
"Uh, 'I wonder if we ever think about each other at the same time.'" He kept his eyes on his phone, a bit scared to meet your eyes. You stared at him in perplexion.
"Okay, on my birthday I wrote 'of all the things my hands have held, the best by far is you', then the next day wrote 'there's been a place for you in my heart since we first met.'" Shayne sniffled, looking to you with teary eyes, chuckling a bit.
You took in his appearance with your brows furrowed, his cheeks were bright red, his blue eyes glistening.
"So, yeah, those are some of my Simp Notes." Shayne spoke softly as he caught sight of you laughing, some water dribbling from your lips.
You stood from the stool, taking a few steps away as you swallowed, wiping your mouth. You were still clueless as to what exactly was happening, but the name had caught you off guard and made you laugh.
Shayne felt like time slowed down, everything was going too perfectly as he removed the box from his pocket, your back still to him as you laughed.
He found himself grateful for your unwillingness to laugh at him, you allowed him to tell you some of the things he hadn't been able to before.
The energy had come back to the room, everyone laughing as soon as you broke, the assumptions previously made now leaving everyone's mind until Shayne drops to one knee.
A few gasps are heard as you turn back toward Shayne. small shriek leaves you as your eyes widden quickly at the sight.
You two had talked about marriage before, and you both wanted to get married, but you didn't expect this. Nothing could've given this away for you.
"I wanna spend the rest of my life making you laugh." Shayne chuckled as you laughed a rolled your eyes as the purposely bad joke.
"Y/N, will you marry me?" Shayne's voice barely audible, the crew further back hadn't even heard him ask.
"Yes, Shayne!" You squeal, your boyf- no.
Your fiance is quick to grab you, wrapping his arms around your waist as he lifts you up. The two of you are a mess of tears, smiles, sniffles, kisses, and whispers as the room is filled with cheers.
You and Shayne are quickly enveloped with loads of your friends, the shock and excitement evident throughout the room.
After a few minutes, Kimmy hugs you and Shayne tightly, congratulating the two of you continuously, quickly gasping as she looks up.
"I can't believe you didn't tell anyone!" Kimmy sniffles, smacking Shayne's chest lightly as he laughed. You looked to him with wide eyes, quickly looking to Damien in confusion as he shook his head.
"Yeah, I've had the ring for... uh, some time now" Shayne laughed, blushing brightly as you at him in awe. "I wanted to surprise you, and| wanted to have a bunch of people we care about with us to celebrate, it just felt right."
Shayne couldn't hide his embarrassment as you wrapped him into another hug, the two of you embracing each other for a few moments, happy tears falling from and for the couple.
"Oh my god, we're still doing a video, holy shit." She laughs, wiping her own tears as she quickly moved out of frame, the rest of the crew following suit. The cast quickly surrounded you once more, each with bright smiles and tear stained cheeks.
You sit back on the stool, grinning as Shayne stands beside you, his arm draped over your shoulders.
"Pst." Damien called loudly from Shayne's other side. "You should give her the ring, Shayne." He whisper-yelled, causing a fit of giggles to ripple through everyone, both you and Shayne blushing deeply.
He fumbles a bit as he opens it again, pulling the delicate, ornate ring from the box before sliding it on to your finger.
You pressed your hand on to your lap, grinning as you stared at the accessory that fit you perfectly in every way.
"I could not imagine being a comedian and having to go on after this guy." Spencer called from out of frame, causing Shayne to cackle.
You guys were quick to wrap up your outro, Shayne still wrapped around you the whole time, placing a kiss to your forehead as they called for a wrap on the shoot.
This was the perfect he was looking for.

Review of Smosh's Funeral Roast
I am harsh at times, but know it all comes from a place of love!
Spoilers under the cut
I live in Europe. This is relevant because of timezones: the funeral roast of Anthony Padilla was live at 6pm for them, meaning 3am for me. I am not the youthful insomniac I once was so I had to train my sleep schedule the entire week - otherwise I would miss it because I fell asleep. But I wanted to witness this live. I love smosh.
The trailer for this roast deserves an award: Ian and the cast have a movie night as suddenly the light turns blue and everyone but Ian freezes. He seems to know what's going on and discovers a zombie or ghost like Anthony levitating. The cast of the roast are all introduced and all play a gothic, churchy kind of character. See the full trailer here (it's currently at 666k views, how fun):
youtube
Around 1am I got impatient and decided not to wait for my alarm clock but to install myself on the couch, with a blanket and a scarf, and a hot cup of tea, god knows I would need it. I watched episodes of the Scott Pilgrim Netflix series to kill the time. The character Todd Ingram reminded me a lot of Anthony and I wonder whether Anthony has 'vegan superpowers' as well. Probably so.
Finally, the pre-show begins. This is pretty uneventful as they play a game and succesfully convince thousands of viewers to buy their tickets to the main show. I look at them. Everyone is gorgeous. But I can't look away from Ian and Anthony. And here is where I stray from actually reviewing the show to let my inner fangirl out: holy fuck they are hot. Me and my friends on tumblr have been making 'forgive me Father, for I have SINNED' jokes because his character, 'the pastor', just brings that out in people. We're not used to Ian in black, or in a robe, and he looks phenomenal. And then there is Anthony, clothed in a ridiculous Harry Styles-esque lace top with lace gloves, resting his head on Ian's shoulder. It's such a cute moment, Ian pushes him upright. He can be alive for a second before his funeral. My heart melts. Honerable mention: Courtney's bikini girl cleavage right behind Ian. The girls were ready to rock. Okay, okay, back to the review.
The room feels kind of small and a bit claustrophobic. The Smosh art dept. always steps up, so the stained glass "friendship never dies" high-five looks incredible, and the megachad-Anthony portrait hilarious. The casket is huge. But the props make the set look even smaller. I think the problem is the cameras. I realize how difficult camerawork is when you have multiple focus points to switch between, but next time they should do a lot of practice with this to streamline, to get everyone in the shot and better capture people's reactions to the roasts.
Ian walks in. He starts off with a bit about who Anthony is: a hot, hardworking guy with a big dick. Those are the main takeaways of his roasts.
Amanda is next. She looks beautiful but very wacky. Her deliverance and accent are stellar, though. She truly is top talent at Smosh. Her roasts are also some of the most scorching of the night. She doesn't shy away from calling out Anthony's past problematic behavior and less than stellar performance in the bedroom ("look it up!") She gets a round of applause and deservedly so.
Tommy follows with a kind of angry roast, and proceeds to read the will, from which nobody comes away unscathed. I feels like his words about Anthony supposedly hating the cast are a necessary evil. Just the same day Anthony posted his interview with Shayne on his personal channel. There we learned that Shayne didn't know before if Ian and Anthony actually had wanted to hire them. Anthony said they were very much involved, something I don't know whether to believe. As apparently, Ian never talked about it with Shayne either, for all those years. Shayne had also been very apprehensive when Anthony came back, not knowing what would happen and the first change was to boot the entire cast off the main channel. I feel like Tommy's roast puts the topic on the table and hopefully they will talk about it more until nobody has any doubt left.
Now I have to insert that one of my main critiques of the night is that lots of people both did a lot of obvious jokes (tattoos, leaving smosh, general appearance) and did not go hard enough. Anthony kind of has an awkward CEO vibe (he's not the ceo but still) about him that seems to make even the cast a bit wary of him. I had hoped for jokes about that.
Brandon Rogers is next and rightfully points out the lack of celebrities in the line-up. Doesn't Anthony have more friends who want to roast him? Either he doesn't or the rest of Smosh don't have access to them. Which is both fine, because it is a Smosh party after all.
Arasha comes in swinging with all kinds of Zoomer slang that I frankly don't understand but her deadpan delivery is like a breath of fresh air. She ends with a very nice message. That kind of undercuts her roasts though, I wish she would have been meaner.
Now it is time for the musical half-time show, which actually deserves its own review. Performed by Angela and Chanse, this is incredible. By far, the most professional part of the evening. These are no theater kids, as they still call themselves. These are Broadway acTORS! I was really taken away by their talent. Not only do they act, but they also sing amazingly? Did you hear Angela do screamo?! And Chanse's riffs? They pointedly mention the sexual tension between Ian and Anthony, both on- and off screen. This has been occupying my mind ever since. Wow, sorry I went fangirl-mode again. But the halftime show simply is that good. Keith makes an appearance at the end and brings the show back down to earth with his humor.
The biggest surprise guests are next in what I can only describe as Dan telling the horny tale of his years long obsession with Anthony, and the many, many times he unloaded on the 'sexy Anthony' calender (which is a real calender, I was there when it came out but was broke at the time, darnit). Dan and Phil have been shedding their PG personas on their own channels for a while now, but for those who don't watch them daily this December - they're doing gamingmas and it's chaos - it is shocking what X-rated stuff comes out of their mouths. Anthony is visibly taken aback. Good!
As the show progresses, Ian keeps moderating as the pastor. It is great to see him so in control and enjoying the roast of his best friend. The joke of Ian not being able to show his emotions comes up a lot, but today I see him mainly just having fun.
Of course, then there is Bikini Girl, whom I had high hopes for, maybe too high. She is hilarious, but nothing really stings. Courtney does also direct the whole show, so super kudos to her. I just don't think she has the best roasts. She is followed by Rhett and Link, who just do their regular thing. It is funny but not very original. You can only hear so many tattoo jokes before it gets old. We do see Link's bare torso, so a win for fangirls (gender neutral).
Then Shayne, or should I say the Chosen has his turn. He is absolutely in character and does great. I just don't know if the Chosen is the best person to deliver roasts. It feels more like a Shayne party than a roast of Anthony. Which enough people love all the same, I'm sure.
Angela is 'the vessel', a possessed girl, reading the roasts from the audience. These roasts are very mid (they should have included mine! /j), but her delivery is again stellar. Smosh is really lucky to have her.
And last but not least, Ian goes on a second roasting spree. Only, it isn't a roast? He just makes fun of Anthony’s baby picture and then proceeds to tell Anthony how grateful he is for him, how he's so glad they are friends again and that he loves him? Anthony is crying by this time, which makes the moment even more tender.
Of course, Anthony has to do a counter-roast. It is apparent that he is still affected by all the roasting or 'love-bombing' as Amanda calls it. And he's not as good at live comedy yet. Still, his jokes are funny and really in Anthony's own style. He concludes with Ian's quote of being happy to burn Smosh to the ground with him. I knew that quote would be ingrained in Anthony's mind. It was one of the sweetest things Ian had ever said to him, after all. Until Ian has now told him he loves him, of course.
And then it was 5 am. I got a healthy two hours of sleep in! I came away from this roast with a content smile and a full heart. This was well worth the ticket, the staying up late. I am happy to be a member and support them monthly, I've loved their humor even before they started their youtube channel. I love Smosh. I'm so happy that Anthony is back. Smosh is whole again. And it brings out that light in Ian's eyes. He is funny in an unhinged way again. I truly love Anthony and Ian and their dumb videos. I want them to continue to make them forever. These kinds of live shows are fun. But Ian and Anthony truly shine in their off the walls absurdist sketches.
Special shout-out to my bestie @only-frann who I could scream at this whole day.

What makes Shourtney stand out to me (as a possible couple) is that despite all the LA influences and insane talent, they kinda seem like two people you could see hanging out in your neighborhood. They are so special but normal at the same time if that makes sense.
I also feel that neither of them are particularly great at hiding their true feelings about people and things around them - and I love that about them. I'm sure they do a loooooot of self-censoring but at the same time, have hard time maintaining a proper poker face.
Actually, there are some 2019-2020 videos where Courtney and Shayne start acting silly/flirty together, and the other person in the room (usually Ian and Damien) has a slightly amused but uncomfortable "here we go again" expression on their face. The expression is so relatable 'cause I've been in similar situations myself at the workplace and kept thinking "you guys really need to do something about this romantic tension 'cause we have a meeting with the boss in two minutes and she might have some questions". So awkward but hilarious at the same time.
Similarly to the previous anon, I also wish we could hear their own experience at some point since what we discuss here in Tumblr, is mainly just speculation/interpretation. Even if it turns out that Shourtney never happened and we shippers have been living in delulu, I'd still love to hear what their shared journey has been (bts) since it feels like they rarely talk about their friendship/something-else-ship anymore. Ian and Anthony discuss their friendship frequently in videos, Shayne and Damien make references to their shared past experiences from time to time, and I've even heard Amanda and Angela commenting on how close friends they are. But I can not remember the last time Shayne and Courtney had even a brief discussion about them as a duo, despite being one of the more iconic ones.
I actually think that it was the contradiction between their non-verbal language and verbal treatment of each other that led me to speculate (1-2 years ago) that something is going on bts. For me their "heart eyes" alone are not really a proof of anything since they keep looking at half the cast with similar endearment. However, I found it weird that they would look at each other so lovingly (at least in brief moments) but rarely ever say anything friend-like directly to each other or even act politely, like normal coworkers. Some people will explain that with their long friendship but they are close with Damien and Ian as well and rarely act in the same contradictory way with them. I just can't explain that with anything else but "something's going on".
As a background info: I started my Smosh journey with videos from 2022 and 2023, and initially, knew nothing about the Shourtney shipping that happened in late 2010s. Despite this (or because of it?) I sensed something between them and was not surprised to hear that they might be more than just coworkers. However, I def understand why shippers got a bad rep in Defy era because I can not sense the same chemistry between them in older videos and would have needed a fair amount of delulu to convince myself that they are together. Nowadays, it's the other way around: you need to make a lot of mental acrobics to explain why they are most probably just friends.
Btw, sorry for a long, not-so-cohesive ramble on this. I'm writing this in a sleepy mode, and am not sure myself what is the red thread of this anymore. :D
I am speechless while reading this. What do you mean by 'not cohesive'? This is a well-structured narrative. 🤯🤯
I agree that between 2019 and 2021, Shourtney appeared different, especially during their Twitch streams since they were unedited, unlike now, where they can easily censor or edit some of their moments.
Regarding their chemistry, from 2015 to 2018, it was just full-blown flirting as friends. (I don't know if I'm just being delusional), but something changed in 2019.🙉🙈

On the whole confidence thing, I honestly think Shayne wasn't really too confident back before he and Court started dating either. Like, I think he gave the impression of outward confidence really well, and compared to someone like Courtney the changes he's gone through have been more subtle, but he's also really come into his own a lot.
Like, I think it's funny when people compare Angela's loudness to Shayne's, because frankly, Shayne has gotten quieter over time. I don't think Angela comes CLOSE to 2018 Shayne. Shayne's always been hilarious but he kinda used to drown everyone else out. He leaned so hard into "loudness" being his gimmick that he started to seem less like a person and more like a force of nature. He would fully derail videos by doing solo bits and taking away attention from anything else that was going on. He got away with it back then because he was easily the most talented person on the cast, but nowadays with Smosh in its prime I don't think people would be as appreciative of it.
This isn't a dig at Shayne, I'm just trying to articulate a certain way I feel about him when revisiting Smosh's old content. Shayne has always been the type of guy who is afraid of failure more than anything, and while this still is the case as he's talked about on Smosh Mouth, it used to be VISIBLY worse. This is kinda why he used to derail videos. If any competition was involved, Shayne would rather intentionally fail and be funny doing it than try his hardest and take something seriously and risk failing all the same. It's burying yourself in irony to protect yourself from judgement and criticism.
I think this is why the old Smoshcast was so eye-opening to a lot of people because Shayne used to be a very different person from when you asked him to be funny versus when you asked him to just be himself. It was an incredibly loud, overly-silly person who refuses to take anything seriously versus someone who's down to earth and cares a lot about small things that most people wouldn't pay any mind.
I think Court has changed him a lot because she's someone who, and I mean this in the best way, is used to failure. She's always been very real and authentic, and unlike somebody like Shayne who used to bury all of his bits in several layers of irony to protect himself, she's always been very vulnerable and willing to put herself out there even if it meant floundering on a TNTL or looking like an idiot during a Board AF. This part of her that's willing to fail has never died either, you just see it less often now because she's gotten better at succeeding.
Currently, I think Shayne is so much more of a delight to watch than before. He was always great, but now it feels like you can see more of himself in his funny guy schtick. He's less loud, more down-to-earth, and more willing to actually participate in competition. He's so much more cool, calm, and collected than he used to be. I also feel like his current brand of comedy also lets his dynamic with the rest of the cast flourish more. Back when he used to bury himself in irony, all of his dynamics(except with Olivia) felt like "Shayne and his caretakers", whereas now they moreso feel like "Shayne and his friends".
He still has some ways to go. As I said, he's stated directly on Smosh Mouth that he's still afraid of failure, and that he's sometimes to afraid to try and experiement with things because he's too focused on doing them "correctly". You can also still see him burying himself in irony from time to time, my recent example being when he was brave enough to bring his journal for an episode of Smosh Mouth but not brave enough to read from it in his normal voice, putting on a Chosen voice to avoid engaging with his old writing on a surface level. However, I think he's come leaps and bounds from where he used to be and just like Courtney, deserves praise for that.
I think this is why we all love their relationship so much. I don't just like their on-screen dynamic, I straight up think they bring the best out of each other.
This is like the best essay i've read about Shayne's growth during Smosh tbh. Recommend read for everyone. Thanks for sharing your thought and I wholeheartedly agreed on what you said. He's really opening up a lot since he's in a relationship and being more vulnerable than ever before. It's still work in progress but you can actually see how much different he is back in the day.

Love me like I haven't changed // Shayne Topp // 5
five // Kate
I had figured out that Tuesday's were the worst days. Previously, Sunday had been my least favourite. The fact that we had the whole weekend off, and then Sunday came around with the reminder that there was another week. But I was wrong.
Tuesday's were the days I had therapy. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I hated going to therapy. I mean hell, it was free. My mother decided to fund my self-help endeavour with the promise that I'd visit her again. But, I didn't like going in and drudging up the memories I had of Shayne, the ones I tried so hard to push away.
Charlie had told me the two sessions before that talking about Shayne might help me air out my grievances about what happened, because I still refused to talk about it. I just wasn't ready yet.
And so I sat, 6:00pm on a Tuesday night, waiting for the guy to stick his head out the door and usher me in.
I had decided that Charlie was a good guy, I mean you kind of have to be to do what he does. Charlie was inherently good though. He was kind and quiet and understanding. He also followed what I wanted to do in our sessions which worked well for me.
"Kate?" I looked toward him with a small smile and stood to follow him in.
"How are you Charlie?" I asked politely as I took my usual seat near the window.
"Good thanks, how about yourself?" He returned, taking his usual seat across from me. He picked up his notepad, scribbling something down which I assumed to be a date.
"Yeah I'm okay, I went back to work this week." He raised his eyebrows and glanced toward me.
"Really? That's great Kate." He smiled, taking notes.
"Yeah, everyone at work has been great I guess. No one's asking questions which I guess is because they think there's been a death in the family or something."
"Are you close with anyone at work?"
"Not really," I looked at the window to my right, watching the raindrops roll down it, "I used to have a few work friends but they moved on to other jobs over the years. I keep to myself a bit at work, I don't really talk about my life much."
"What about friends outside of work? You haven't mentioned anyone in our previous sessions." He poked. I mean I can't blame him, I haven't really told him all that much about my life currently, just stuff from 5 years ago.
"Yeah I had some friends, have.. had?," I spoke as more of a question than a statement, "We had lots of friends, as in Shayne and I. Mostly they were his friends that sort of adopted me. I mean, when I moved here I didn't really have anyone. And like.. I still talk to some of them when they reach out to me but I've sort of stopped reaching out now. I mean it kind of feels weird speaking to them knowing they're speaking to him too." I rambled.
Charlie looked up for a second while he was taking notes, "So you feel like they aren't your friends anymore?"
"I guess... I mean I was friends with some of them more than Shayne was. It just doesn't feel right to reach out now."
"So you didn't just lose your boyfriend, you lost your friends too." He offered, I nodded in response.
"Yeah I guess you could put it like that."
"So do you think that's the only thing keeping you from reaching out, the fact that you feel like they're his friends more than yours?" He prompted.
"I guess there's also the fear that he might have told them what happened between us. I mean, it wasn't all my fault but I still feel a bit guilty about everything that happened." I looked back to the window and let out a breath that I had been holding in.
"Do you think Shayne is the type of guy to tell his friends about what happened?"
"No... not really. He's good at keeping things to himself. I know he would have told his best friend and I know his best friend is good at being a neutral party in situations like this."
"Has this best friend reached out to you?" He asked, pencil in his mouth and concerned look on his face.
"Damien? Yeah he did. Right after we split up he came around to see me when he didn't hear from me for a few days. I told him I was fine though, I didn't really have much to say then because I was still so angry at Shayne."
"And so, Damien hasn't reached out since then?" I could understand his confusion, we were talking about a situation he still had no idea about.
"No he hasn't, I asked him not to for a while. I just figured Shayne would need him more than me." Charlie nodded in response.
"So who's there for you? Who's your Damien?" I looked toward the window again, holding back tears while I thought of a response to the question. There was no response.
"My mother I guess," I looked back toward Charlie, "I mean I haven't told her what happened, she just knows Shayne and I split and that it was particularly messy." He nodded again.
"Well the closer we get to what happened, the more I'll understand about the situation," He began, "How about you start us off where we left it last time." He smiled slightly, trying to diffuse from my obvious discomfort. I nodded in agreement.
"I actually brought the diary I was using at the time to prompt my memory," His smile widened at this.
"Oh that's great, you journal. Do you still journal?" I nodded.
"Yeah, pretty much every day."
"Great, I'll let you find the next page and we can begin." I smiled, picking up the small book and flicking through the pages of memories from 5 years ago.

I'm feeling very grateful for Shourtney right now! This has nothing to do with the ship, but everything to do with Shayne and Courtney and how they've helped me grow as a person!
So growing up, my parents weren't very strong influences in my personal development, so I always tell people I was practically raised by the internet and was obsessed with YouTube since I was 8 years old (I'm 24 now...). But I've spent so much of my life surfing through garbage trying to find positive influences. There were times I was almost sucked into the alt-right pipeline, and even though I was eventually guided to the left, I made it through so much shit that I'm still unpacking a lot of the bullshit I consumed...
Rediscovering Smosh and the cast was a GODSEND! Not only is Smosh non-problematic and left-leaning, it's a COMEDY GROUP? Y'all have no idea how rare that is... so many creators out there whose sense of humor is being as offensive and edgy as possible. I just like silly content, dude. And Smosh is IT, man. Their stuff was cool back when it was Ian and Anthony, but modern Smosh is just SOOOOO good 😭
I was in an extremely toxic work environment for the last 4 years (toxic masculinity, homophobia, racism, misogyny, you name it...), and I'm so glad I rediscovered Smosh around that time. I became obsessed and watched everything they put out because it was in such stark contrast to the environment I was in.
Shayne became my biggest influence because he's so outwardly not a toxic masculine man. Very respectful, very understanding, very uplifting, just trying to make everyone laugh and feel good about themselves. I know he's pretty traditionally masculine, but I'm also that way and I just can't stand how many men get sucked into this idea of never showing emotion, never being vulnerable, hating the powerless, hating anything remotely considered feminine... he's none of that. I've spent my entire adult life trying to purge all my internalized misogyny and toxic traits (it's not easy!) and he's been such a great influence in that way. And his influence over my sense of humor has been GALACTIC. His humor isn't at anyone's expense but (sometimes) himself, and that's the best way to be funny is to just be as silly and ironic of an entertainer as possible. It's everything I aspire to be. I just wish he dressed a little better sometimes, LMAO 💀
If Shayne is my yang, Courtney is my yin! Courtney represents everything I've come to love and appreciate about personal growth, self-expression, and femininity (even though I know they're NB). They're SO weird and SO not afraid to be themself, even at the risk of seeming "cringe". But I freaking love it, dude! It takes so much pressure off of trying to be perfect and fit into everyone's box, and I think that's what makes them so funny and entertaining! They're so... authentic. And Courtney's always the one to uplift the vibes, to bounce off people's energy, to bring out everyone's potential. They have this natural charisma that makes it insanely difficult not to want them to be in every video. And they've grown SO MUCH in the last 4 years! You would think 2018 Courtney vs. 2022 Courtney are completely different people! Getting to witness that change in real-time was soooo epic. And them understanding their own identity helped me reevaluate my own understanding of gender, masculinity, and femininity. I'm still cishet, but I think it's important that everyone have a thorough understanding of themselves and Courtney got me to explore those questions more than I ever would have.
Putting Shayne and Courtney in a room together makes actual magic, y'all. Everything I just said about them individually, put that TOGETHER. PLACE AN EXPONENT AT THE END OF THAT SHIT 👏 They bring out the best in each other, and it makes for some of the most entertaining shit. Like yes, I'm a Shourtney shipper, but dating or not, they are an unrivaled duo and I'm here for every minute of it.
Y'all, I was DEVASTATED when they cancelled Smoshcast. I listened to it every week at work because it was so refreshing listening to such intelligent and adorable humans talk about life vs. the sea of brainless testosterone I was drowning in 😓 AND COULD YOU IMAGINE SMOSHCAST NOW??? A BRAND NEW COURTNEY, ALL THESE NEW CAST AND CREW MEMBERS, ALL THE STORIES THEY WOULD HAVE TO MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME??? I get why they cancelled Smoshcast, they want to focus on other stuff, but man, it still hurts 🥺 I'M FINE
ok RANT OVER, GO AWAY 😌❤️

Re: the last ask but only about the smosh games part, because I don't have fully formed opinions on pit tbh
I feel like with the amount of videos smosh games puts out, they couldn't do "love is blind" type videos 3 times a week. Logistically, energy wise, and financially.
The guesses videos are just a lot easier to produce and I feel pretty confident about saying that they need to do that to keep up the posting schedule. (Technically not those specific videos, but formats in that ball park.)
If they should is another question but probably they have to, because money. Idk how much profit smosh makes, but their margin must be a lot slimmer than people imagine. All the salaries they have to pay, etc. And yk how shayne and stuff talked about feeling like smosh would had to shut down if Anthony didn't come back. That makes me feel like they were barely turning profit in those times and now it prob is better, but not extremely more.
Smosh games is simultaneously the one that makes the best and the most boring videos. From all smosh channels, it is least consistent, and I think it very much has to do with the amount they produce. And realistically, that won't change.
They good thing is that you can skip a bunch of uploads and still have multiple new smosh games videos you can watch per week.
But yeah if all those considerations weren't on the table the perfect smosh games would be a lot of gaming content mixed with high energy character videos (love is blind falls under that too). And of course the pinnacle, characters playing video games.
Sadly my wish won't come true, because of what I just stated but also because the types of videos I enjoy typically get the least views on top of that (not always but yeah). I suffer from too great of taste djkds.
I think what you said about them having to turn profit is the sole reason they do so much of the "lackluster" content like the Guesses videos. Those videos get consistent views for all uploads (averaging about 600k views which I believe makes them "roughly" $18k if monetized) and are really easy to make, for filming and editing.
Like I've said and am sure everyone is aware of, they make a lot of videos because they know it'll get a certain number of views. Look at Reddit Stories! Whereas if one-off videos don't get views they don't do them again typically.
The topic of why they decide to certain videos isn't really what I'm the most peeved about. (even though it DOES peev me! It's at the least understandable why they do it)(we talked about how they could transition to doing other videos without loosing money here)
The main thing I want from Smosh is for them to better focus on what the ACTUAL community wants! somebody has to watch their content so they can make money? I don't understand why it's far and between when they do stuff for the fans. We've been saying that we want the Summer/Winter Games back since it's been gone, it's like whoever runs the creative directing(?) (whoever decides the video concepts) pays almost no attention to comments/generally anything Smosh related on the internet. It's like they only focus on their personal timeline and the trending tab.
(Rant incoming!->
Full shade, I really don't think the social team takes their jobs seriously. Something has to be going wrong behind the scenes for so much shit to come off so weird. Mainly talking about the disaster with Sword AF S2, idk who's idea it was to let the community know they couldn't do it WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED. Their is no good reason they couldn't let us know sometime before. (however I am open to what they have to say) It just felt like they didn't really care about people that were excited. I had popcorn ready and my schedule cleared for the day so I could watch it :( waiting on the clock to watch the upload, just to get-> "Ooopsie! teehee! We didn't finish it! So sorry lol!" ...
They still haven't teased/released any further info about when it's coming back which makes me think they FOR SURE knew it wasn't gonna be ready by the date THEY FUCKING SET THEMSELVES, which again if they knew they couldn't do it in time why not announce like a week before? even an hour before would have been fine! but no, they sent out the community post at 10am pst when they were supposed to drop S2..)
The only thing the social team (if they handle this even) is the YT shorts and the Tiktoks. Pretty much everything else I can think of they could do better in my opinion
Sorry to rant about stuff I've already talked about, but this is really just to easy of a fix to not point out when I can.
Pay attention to what your community wants. You WILL get rewarded for it.

I will watch sword af, but first I'm watching all the video I can find with them on it. And yes it was flipping the chicken video, they were so good in that video.
Yes!!! Love is blind video I feel like changed everything (also I do wonder if when they were playing they choose their own answers or what they thought the characters will choose) 'cause even Shayne said: “I feel like I'm the only straight guy and I'm not even matching with anyone”. It really really was so dramatic when he rejected Court character and said he matched with someone else.
I do feel like they would have won if Shayne wasn't trying to think what Chance was choosing in the answers, maybe if he choose his own things it would have been different.
I adore the teletubbies reunion, lala character...that really is a character right there hahahahah.
The lives, you can't hide in there 'cause it's happening and they just have to be themselves and I'm trying to read their minds hahahahaha.
I really appreciate everytime Chance just makes Shayne shy, it's my new favorite thing. Also I'm glad I'm not alone on rewatching videos.
(I will send more thoughts in a moment)
And by playlist yes I mean songs!
Ah, can't wait for ur journey!
Idk, I do feel that all of them were playing characters but simultaneously I feel their answers were just them? The answers ppl picked matched and they made like (kinda) personal comments abt it. And Shayne was 100% choosing answers for himself. I will never forget that proposal INSANE!! SHAYNE DID SO MUCH IN THAT MOMENT!! But also, without Shayne rejecting Courtney we mightve not gotten the moment that is the Courtrasha proposal which is hilarious.
yh! Didn't he make a comment similar to "I think I know what you'll pick"? Idk, but they were pretty close to winning!
the teletubbies reunion with all the voices...I reference it all the time to blank faces, like a little treat just for me
Yh, in the lives its just them chilling! No characters! And the streams r always so cozy!
I feel like Chanse loves to make Shayne shy, idk
I just made a post with my playlist, here you go!

hi! i’m very much missing my StW boys :) may i perhaps have some tidbits about them that we haven’t yet heard? ooh okay maybe everyone from StW? i kinda want to ask about ALL your ocs tbh but i think that’s a bit much to ask for all at once. so we’ll stick with StW for now! I would also love to know more about Mitsuko and Bastian!!
how are you doing btw? 🍄
You're so sweet! You might also be happy to know that I am also working on your request for Rin and Charlie to visit Shayne and have a sleepover at the Aldridges' (I even hinted at it in the last sick Charlie fic). It's just that lots of different ideas keep hitting me and my brain wants me to incorporate all of them lol
As requested, some tidbits:
Charlie's niece's full name is Isabelle Waters-Nowak.
Charlie has five aunts/uncles on his father's side (Simon, Greg, Jane, Mary Claire, Frances) and only one uncle (Graham) on his mother's side. He's closest with Graham because his grandfather (Ingrid and Graham's dad, Benjamin) lived with them for a little while and Graham would often come over to visit them all.
Charlie has eleven cousins, all on Trevor's side; Lucy*, Frank, and Gina (Jane's kids), Stephanie and May (Mary Claire's kids), Tara and Gray (Simon's kids), and Katie, Philip, Jessica, and Nathaniel (Greg's kids). Charlie is the oldest out of all them with, with about six years between him and the next-eldest. (*Not the same Lucy as Lucyverse.)
(Is it obvious that I drew out Charlie's family tree? 🙃)
Madelyn never legally changed Shayne's name to Devine, but even after he finds this out from Ryan, he decides to keep the name anyway.
Shayne continues getting motion sick on public transport, which he has to deal with a lot when Felix is travelling abroad and he has to take the bus to get to the nursing home to see Trish.
Rin doesn't get along with Autumn when Claudette first introduces them. They don't actively hate each other or argue a lot, but neither of them can get a good read on the other. Rin also feels a bit envious over how close Claudette and Autumn are, and how long they've known each other. Deep down, she resents the fact that she's had to abandon 90% of the friendships she's put time and effort into over the past ten years, because they all turned out to be toxic.
As well as spending time with the Pride Society, Rin takes up roller skating and hip hop dancing in college.
Elliott starts writing a detective novel in his free time. He's too embarrassed to let anyone read it as a work-in-progress, but he finds the process therapeutic. He bases a lot of his characters off of people he knew in the past.
Elliott thinks a lot about cutting off and donating his hair, especially when summer arrives.
Elliott used to ride a motorbike before he and Felix started dating. He once brought his bike and "kidnapped" Shayne from school once, while Ryan was visiting Madelyn. They went to a forest (not Mulberry), Elliott did some hunting, and they just kind of hung out. It was one of the last times they saw each other before losing contact for a few years.
(I've been trying to think of something for Felix but the guy wears his heart on his sleeve and I can't think of anything hidden or secret about him right now lol)
CW: mention of disordered eating and body dysmorphia past this point.
Mitsuko has dealt with disordered eating her whole life, in so small part due to her older sister's attitude towards food and appearance. She's been doing well for a while before she meets Bastian.
Mitsuko very often experiences body dysmorphia though, which Bastian thinks is just her messing around when they first start hanging out, but he eventually realises she believes the things she says about herself and it just breaks his heart.
Bastian is covered in tattoos. Some of them have religious symbolism, because he chose them at a time in his life where religion was a big deal, and while he isn't sure he believes in them anymore, he still accepts them as part of who he is. Physically, at least.
Mitsuko loves roller coasters. Bastian hates them because they make him feel so sick. But he's a sucker for her, so he goes on them anyway.
Bastian finds it hard to be civilised around Yumi, knowing how bad she makes Mitsuko feels about food and her body, and it's been the cause of arguments (between him and Mitsuko) on several occasions.
After he eventually finds out that Mitsuko can shift into wolf form, he gives her the pet name "Puppy", which she hates* (i.e. *gets very flustered by and feels very cute afterwards).
I think that's all I've got in me for now!! Thank you so much for the ask 🖤

( dai si, she/her, spirit warrior ) to SHAYNE KADIR, the whole world looks like an open page. with a leap of faith, their ability of DIVINE FLAME grows a little stronger. they’re pledged to the HOUSE OF BELTRAN to defend the enchanted lands of cagliostro with their ENCHANTED SAI. for THIRTY-TWO years, they have survived a world of magic with both their CALM and CYNICISM. they work as a ROYAL EXECUTIONER, but if they could change their fate, they’d want to CLEANSE THE WORLD.

loves money. monetary compensation stands as the main reason she does any ‘good deed’ by choice, particularly while traveling as much as she has as of late
as the boundary curses spread and as a consequence of her position and the rumors circling her abilities, she finds herself regularly holding audience with any variation of cursed strangers. most don’t realize her ‘cure’ is temporary and she feels she’s under no obligation to tell them so, even if they pay her hefty sum. purposely killing their hope in that way seems rather cruel, even by her standards. she also can’t help if no one directly asks
most of her attire leans towards a feeling of ‘pirate wench’ with reds, whites, and blacks serving as her predominant colors. the armor she wears is easily the only exception: a bright silver typically. she also has no trouble being entirely naked when permitted, and tends to prefer it when combat isn’t an immediate concern

the sea is her second love
she has a mixed opinion of the royal court and guard these days, though tends to lean more towards indifference so long as they don’t make her job unbearable
she’s broken precisely twenty-three bones in her body throughout her life. some more than once, and mostly on account of accidents she’s had little to do with initially rather than actual combat
she is allergic to pollen and tends to hate most floral arrangements, bees, bugs, or anything that has the capacity to be annoying, frankly
while she’s defected from the dragon priesthood, she still commits to praying for those she slays. old habits die hard and all
speaking of kills, her count, to date, ranges somewhere well above the upper 300s while in the role of an official executioner. unofficially, the count is unknown, though one must also bear in mind her time among the guard in general, being among the youngest ever present
her love life is an absolute mess. her string of exes either want her dead or in the very least, wouldn’t mind seeing her step on a lego or two, barefoot. she has no capacity for proper commitment, prone to balancing more than one person at a time, and her eventually getting caught has resulted in a number of awkward situations that she tends to brush off. she’s more recently been forced into an arrangement of marriage, of which she’s entirely against, and tends to act as such. but since she’s rejected a string of offers, the court felt it was the most logical move to ensure traditions are maintained and she has little room to disobey
she has a talent for the violin and the tambourine, both of which were in use during her street urchin days. she also tends to hum when she believes she’s alone. most of the time she’s not
she has a white, armored horse named jaken, who remains a constant companion on the road. she also has a skill for motorbikes, but this is a rare thing to witness her mounting
despite being a crack shot, firearms are her least favorite weapons
she is terrible gambler, despite her love of it, and enjoys hearing haunted tales, even at the risk of being haunted herself
she is a minimalist, through and through
shayne is, quite sincerely, the most petty person on the planet
&. ⸻ CURSES
to date, the knight is plagued by any number of ongoing curses, including:
the madman ( or unnatural bloodlust and inability to forgive ) — gifted from her hometown of norad and muted since her leave. that said, traces still remain of the curse in itself, and are most prominent in moments of combat, be they physical or verbal.
the flame keeper — a familial gift as well as a curse in which every first born heir is subjected to a version of flame ability that imprints itself onto the skin and soul. no one knows who within the family bore responsibility or how this came to be, but the flame itself, regardless of type or manner, will eventually consume the heir, utilizing their very life energy to burn so brightly. her father was a 'living forge', capable of custom weaponry and consuming ore, hence his main occupation as a blacksmith. shayne is known as the 'holy knight', her version of flame being blessed and pure, but still deadly.
the ring of maleficarum — a supposed curse negating object, however, the effects are more detrimental to the user than initially realized, with shayne inheriting the very essence of this curse and its malevolent host after her father bargained with the dimensional witch in return for his soul upon death ( unknowingly ). the ring, or essence of it rather, essentially stockpiles negative or cursed energy, resulting in legions of bad luck for the user rather than relieving them. it tends to work against her divine flame naturally, causing far more injury and issue than may typically occur when the abilities are in use. for instance, the ring is the reason the curses she ‘breaks’ or absorbs do not stay as such, why she always tends to fall into regular accidents, is always broke ( despite any accumulated funds ), is always at the mercy of hovering birds and other animals literally biting at her heels, and among the reasons for her poor love life, as it were. she is a natural jinx, the bad energy tempered and only partly sealed by enchanted, purified bandages she’d been gifted by a royal clergyman. they regularly encase her body so as not to cause unwarranted destruction around her and she has them regularly re-upped in enchantments by various healing sorts when she notices her luck going more awry than usual. breaking this curse is rumored to require the lives or pure energy of hordes of men, to balance the scales as it were, but shayne has yet to manage to do so. despite her obvious efforts and choice in occupation.
the absorbed — any curse she pulls from another being stays with her for no more than four hours, though the timing may vary. similar to rogue of x-men, this talent draws on the lifeforce of her chosen victim and surrenders the negative energy into herself. the effects of this may either be to her immediate benefit or detriment, though given how the essence of the maleficarum tends to operate, shayne has no way of telling before doing so. most of the time, however, it is less of an aid to her in the moment. if we’re not including any monetary gain, of course. the beings drawn from will be forced into a state of exhaustion themselves for a time as well.
&. ⸻ MOTIVATIONS AND FEARS
she will never allow herself to get close to anyone these days, really, having seen the effects her poor luck may have on those that dare to be. her tendency to self-sabotage and pull away is driven by her fears of hurting those nearest, and her commitment phobia is similarly drawn from this.
part of the reason she’s so money hungry stems from her growing up in an environment that offered so little, having no wish to end up similarly when she eventually retires. it doesn’t help, of course, that her capacity to maintain her funding is severely limited naturally and her apparent gambling problem tends to lend itself poorly to her intended future.
being cursed as she is, is the same as breathing or having a heartbeat for anyone else. as such, trying to remove her curses forcefully would be the same as killing her. her primary goal, aside from seeing an end to all shades, is to find a cure that won't kill her. and despite her poorer approach, she wishes to see the world cleansed of similarly cursed fates.
&. ⸻ TREASURED POSSESSIONS
enchanted twin sai with chains
purifying bandages
butterfly daggers and throwing knives
&. ⸻ FAMILY
her biological father — a man renown in his own right for his alchemic work as well as his talents with weaponry, he holds a greed and selfishness that is unparalleled. or held, at any rate. he would meet his end by a cursed blood, the villain consuming his body whole, mostly, in their wish to claim what lied within. prior to his sudden death, however, he would make a bargain with the dimensional witch to see his daughter take on the host and malevolent energy of the cursed ring he thought could cure him. shayne has always held mixed feelings towards the man in part because of his choices. his death, of course, has brought her little in the way of actual relief. she has sworn to slay his killer at any cost, though this is less to do with any deeply personal reason and more to see justice wrought.
her biological mother — a woman who studied cursed objects for a fair portion of her life, she was an archaeologist determined to see the life of the dragon goddess renewed. a devout follower herself, she was responsible for introducing her daughter to the failing religion and upholding the practices in their household, despite her husband’s disapproval. she would see her life cut short by the very same man, then determined to relieve himself of his cursed and partly self-inflicted woes.
her adoptive father — the man responsible for plucking young shayne from the bloodied streets of norad town after being abandoned by her birth father, he would serve as a guide in her new life and would lead her to her current station. as a member of the royal guard himself, he holds a fair bit of pride in his daughter’s work and efforts for the crown, though he does often wish she’d settle down properly and drank just a little less. he is among the few who know her well, at this stage in her life.
&. ⸻ WANTED
any and all things, though fellow royal guards would be most lovely. come at me, bruh

if you're up for it, every odd question on the smosh question thing 👀
YESSS OMG IM SO UP FOR IT
1: Ian or Anthony?
You know it's gotta be single mom wet cat etc Ian. Honestly though that's mostly because I never really watched old smosh so I barely saw anything with anthony in it, I really do love them both now
3: What's your favorite channel between main/pit/games?
Easily pit, it has all my favorite series. Recently I have been enjoying games and main more, but I've always loved the unscripted content more than anything
5: Do you have a favorite Smosh video? What is it?
ohhh my god this is hard but I absolutely do. TNTL #9 feat. Damien, I rewatch it at least once a week. it's what originally got me into smosh, I clicked on it because the thumbnail had girls kissing and then my life was changed forever. the bits are genuinely so hilarious and I think really do it's one of the best tntls they've done. shayne's pizza place divorce and damien's detective stand out to me, when i was in middle school i would recite those bits from memory to my friends and it always went over like a lead balloon. 10/10 video i've loved it for years
7: What is your favorite series on Smosh (main channel)?
The funeral roasts! My favorite series are always the ones where they kind of just let the cast loose to do fun characters and bits and I like the semi-scriptedness of it where everyone gets to write their own script. They're always a good time and somehow they never feel too mean to be fun
9: What is your favorite series on Smosh Games?
I feel like current Smosh Games has way fewer running series, so if we're talking current SG it's the trivial pursuit TNTLs but if we're talking old SG uhhh probably maricraft?? specifically the superhero series they did
11: What's something you want to see come back?
SMOSH AND ORDER!!! AND SUMMER GAMES!!!! the cast is finally big enough again that these could totally come back and it would be such a fun time, and it would also feel less like just some reboot of their old content bc the new cast would make it so that it's not just the exact same thing again. please i need them back
13: Do you ship anything/love any friendship pairs?
I am very much not one for RPF but I do care so much about shayne and damien as friends!! Their bits always just work off each other so well and their history is so obvious when they're joking around with each other, it's just so much fun to watch them onscreen. I do also love shayne and noah's friendship bc it's genuinely just crazy to me that shayne fully watched noah grow up, i just think they're very sweet
15: What castmember do you think you are most like?
So my name is shayne . If i'm being actually honest though probablyyyy damien or olivia? It's honestly hard to say though bc to be a youtuber it's kind of required to have a big personality and be very charismatic and i'm like?? not crazyyy quiet irl but also definitely not either of those things
17: What do you want to see now that Anthony's back?
Honestly??? I kinda want to see not much change? the only big change i want to see is in the main channel sketches, but i've been enjoying pit and games so much recently i honest to god hope they don't change that much.
19: Is there a video/series you really loved when you were younger?
Uhhh not?? really?????? I started watching when I was like 12 or 13, but my favorite series then were like. TNTL and Board AF or whatever, stuff I still really enjoy now, so??? I guess Squad Vlogs since those aren't really a thing anymore
21: Did you ever watch Smosh the movie?
NOPE!!!!!!!!
23: Tell me an unpopular Smosh opinion.
Uhhh. uhhh uhhh i honest to god can't think of any? or at least any that i would be willing to put on here? bc i have unpopular opinions along the lines of like . i don't personally find this cast member that funny. but those are fully just like my personal tastes and feel too mean spirited to just say on my blog? and I really can't think of any else sorry
25: It's food battle time. You picking a pink frosted sprinkled donut, or some stick-shaped food?
uh uh uh stick shaped food obviously <- has never watched food battle

being cursed as she is, is the same as breathing or having a heartbeat for anyone else. as such, trying to remove her curses forcefully would be the same as killing her. her primary goal, aside from seeing an end to all shades, is to find a cure that won't kill her. and despite her poorer approach, she wishes to see the world cleansed of similarly cursed fates.

her biological father — a man renown in his own right for his alchemic work as well as his talents with weaponry, he holds a greed and selfishness that is unparalleled. or held, at any rate. he would meet his end by a cursed blood, the villain consuming his body whole, mostly, in their wish to claim what lied within. prior to his sudden death, however, he would make a bargain with the dimensional witch to see his daughter take on the host and malevolent energy of the cursed ring he thought could cure him. shayne has always held mixed feelings towards the man in part because of his choices. his death, of course, has brought her little in the way of actual relief. she has sworn to slay his killer at any cost, though this is less to do with any deeply personal reason and more to see justice wrought.
her biological mother — a woman who studied cursed objects for a fair portion of her life, she was an archaeologist determined to see the life of the dragon goddess renewed. a devout follower herself, she was responsible for introducing her daughter to the failing religion and upholding the practices in their household, despite her husband’s disapproval. she would see her life cut short by the very same man, then determined to relieve himself of his cursed and partly self-inflicted woes.
her adoptive father — the man responsible for plucking young shayne from the bloodied streets of norad town after being abandoned by her birth father, he would serve as a guide in her new life and would lead her to her current station. as a member of the royal guard himself, he holds a fair bit of pride in his daughter’s work and efforts for the crown, though he does often wish she’d settle down properly and drank just a little less. he is among the few who know her well, at this stage in her life.

I've been reading them since I discovered this ship, unfortunately there aren't that many which I shouldn't really be surprised about given most people don't like to write about real people like that.
There was one fic I read on Wattpad that is incomplete but an interestingly slow burn one call Love Letters, worth a read.
Anyway to change the subject a bit, I've rewatched some scenes from 2016 to 2019 and it really is amazing how different so many of them look to the way they do now. I know everyone ages, but its more than that.
Courtney seems to have changed the most, she said herself that she lost puppy fat on her face which is evident, she's changed hair lengths and colours and most obviously she changes up her make-up a lot more. But I think the biggest trait change is her confidence, you can tell physically that the Courtney from 2016 and the one from 2023 are the same person just about, but going by her actions and her confidence, she could be a very different person.
Shayne is similar in all those, hair colour, length, facial features and body shape all changing but he's also got a better grasp on what he is doing, especially as he seems to be the core of a lot of Smosh and has a lot on his shoulders most of the time.
Love Letters is definitely one of my favorite for sure!
Courtney did definitely changed the most because they started at Smosh around like early 20 too. Also their confidence definitely got boosted up during after pandemic. There's definitely a lot of factor that helping them but I'll always think that Shayne is in that combination 10000000%. And vice versa it happened with Shayne during 2021 period too with all the clothing and style changing.

LA Girl
Word Count: 3.5k
Request: Since requests are open, can I ask for one where Shayne Topp has secretly been dating an Alt girl (piercings, coloured hair, tattoos ect) for months and she has anxiety and is nervous about meeting the squad as she feels like they’re gonna judge her for being so different to him so Shayne introduces her to Damien first alone and Damien automatically likes her and they click really well so she tells him she’s ready to go public and meet the rest of the squad and they all accept her?❤️ - Anon
A/N: I hope you guys like this! It took me a while to conceptualize it at first but then the rest came pretty naturally :D
Warning(s): Mentions of oral sex (male receiving), swearing, mentions of sex, self deprecating thoughts
Tumblr media
You never really liked living in Los Angeles. Most days it was too bright and there were too many people, too many tourists. Yeah, you hated living here. That is, of course, until you met Shayne.
At first, it appeared that you and Shayne were as different as night and day. Literally. He was the perfect LA Boy, with his blonde hair and his trim physique, always looking like the sun while you… you liked your dark colors and vibrant hairstyles, not to mention your multitudes of piercings and tattoos. In the mornings that you did spend together, Shayne liked to trace them with the tips of his fingers before the day started.
These past few months with Shayne have been euphoric, for lack of better words. It seemed you were forever stuck in your honeymoon phase together but even you knew that it couldn’t last forever. The first fight you’d have, the first disagreement, stemmed from your own insecurities.
As you’d mentioned before, Shayne looked like the perfect LA Boy, as did the rest of his friends. He didn’t stand out while walking the length of Hollywood Boulevard and he certainly didn’t catch any of the police officer’s eyes when he went to the bank.
Which is why you weren’t so sure you wanted to meet them, his friends that is. You were sure that they would judge you for your alternative fashion choices, just like everyone else did.
“They’re not like that,” Shayne tried to convince you for the umpteenth time that day. You had just finished washing the dishes, using your day off to catch up on chores you’d neglected during the week. Shayne was supposed to be completing his coursework for his degree but instead he’d decided to pester you with this topic once more.
“My friends are super supportive and they just want to meet you,” he tried again. “And if they say anything then they’re not really my friends. They’ll love you, I promise.”
You picked up the laundry basket full of clean clothes from beside your front door, dumping the basket out on the couch. You cleared off a small section on the coffee table so that you could fold your laundry.
“I’m just worried,” you confessed, folding a cropped shirt in half twice before dropping it into the laundry basket. “You say that they’re supportive and that they just want to meet me but you also just said, ‘if they say anything.’ Shayne, if I really didn’t have a reason to worry, you wouldn’t have thrown that in there.”
“Okay, that was my bad,” he admitted, “but I’m serious. You have nothing to worry about, they’ll all love you.”
You gave him a weary look, folding a pair of black cargo pants over your arm. A few weeks ago, you’d met Shayne’s parents and while they were two of the most loving and welcoming people you had met, you could still see the discomfort and unease hidden behind their eyes. They expected someone different, with less tattoos and piercings most likely. They probably weren’t expecting their blonde baby boy to be with a neon-pink-haired twenty-something with daddy issues galore.
“Okay, how about this,” Shayne took the pants from your hands, folding them and setting them onto the coffee table. “I’ll invite Damien over to mine for dinner tonight as a tester. If everything goes well with him, then maybe you’ll consider meeting everyone else?”
You took up your cargo pants once more, settling them in the laundry basket with the rest of your folded clothing. You had less than half the original pile left, the rest of the clothing being mainly bras and socks that still needed to be sorted.
“Okay,” you gave in. What was the worst that could happen?
As it turns out, completely forgetting that Damien was due to arrive any moment at Shayne’s apartment was the worst thing that could happen. His best friend’s first impression of you would forever be this: you on your knees with Shayne’s dick halfway down your throat while you gave him a before-dinner blowjob.
Embarrassment burned through your entire being as Damien realized what was happening before he closed the front door and called out, “I’m so sorry, I should have knocked!”
You looked up at Shayne who couldn’t decide between being mortified and being smug. It took everything within your power not to punch him in the dick, considering it was literally right there in front of you.
“Go… take care of yourself,” you awkwardly chuckled, patting his thigh lightly. “I’ll let your friend in and hopefully not die from embarrassment on the way.”
Shayne scrambled up off the couch and into his bathroom while you opened the container of mints you kept under the coffee table for these types of instances. Not that you and Shayne expected people to walk in during any of that normally. You washed your hands at the sink while you chewed the mint, giving yourself a moment to breathe before even thinking about opening the door.
Once you’d calmed down enough, you opened the door for Damien, unable to meet his eye as you let him in.
“Uh, sorry you had to see any of that…” You closed the door behind him, double checking the lock to make sure it was still working. “We don’t usually do it out here, um--”
“You don’t need to explain yourself,” Damien tried to save the night. “It’s not like I haven’t seen Shayne’s dick before--I mean--Not in the way you’d think--”
The two of you dissolved into laughter, still thinking of a way to dig your way out of the hole you’d awkwardly made. When Shayne was telling you about Damien, he did mention that he was possibly the most awkward of his friends which made him the perfect ‘test monkey’ for the night.
“I should’ve knocked,” Damien settled, an apologetic look on his face. “Shayne gave me a key a while back and I usually just let myself in but that’s really no excuse. I’m sorry.”
Shayne had also mentioned Damien was the most polite out of them all. Not that the others weren’t polite, because they were. He had meant it in the way that Damien would apologize for existing if he could (which he has done before).
“It’s okay, really. Though, we might have to tweak the story of how we met for future conversations.” You made your way into Shayne’s little kitchenette. “Do you want anything to drink?”
“Water is fine,” Damien said, moving to sit in one of the chairs at the high table. You grimaced at the couch, making a mental note to grab some disinfectant once Shayne came out of the bathroom. “And yeah, we’ll just leave that part out for future retellings.”
You pulled a glass from one of the cabinets, filling it with water from the Brita. You added a few ice cubes as well, smiling as they clinked against the sides of the glass.
“So, how did you and Shayne meet?” Damien asked, thanking you for the glass. You took up the other seat, crossing your right leg over your left.
“At the tattoo shop I work at, actually,” you played with the end of your belt, twisting the fabric over your hand until it covered your knuckles. For this meeting, you’d decided to tone down your wardrobe--less chains and more softer fabrics. Your pleated skirt had been exchanged for the black cargo pants you’d folded earlier. That paired with a simple side release buckle belt and a structured white top for contrast, this was probably the most “tame” you’ve dressed in a while.
“He came in with another friend of his, Paul, and sat with him while I worked on a piece for his sleeve. After that, I gave him my number in case he ever wanted to get a tattoo himself and the rest is history.”
“I can’t believe Paul technically met you before I did,” Damien said in disbelief. You heard the toilet flush and the sink turn on which meant your boyfriend would be joining the two of you soon.
The awkwardness between you and Damien had faded slightly but you could still feel the tension in the air. Shayne opened the bathroom door and you looked over your shoulder to watch as your no longer disheveled boyfriend entered the room. He’d changed his pants, which was fair, and he was holding the disinfectant in hand as if he’d read your mind.
You hopped off the seat and took it from him, spraying down the entire couch while he greeted his friend.
“Really sorry you had to see that,” Shayne said, laughing as they clapped their hands together. “We would have disinfected the couch either way, just so you know.”
Damien laughed as you finished cleaning off the couch, setting the disinfectant on the coffee table. You couldn’t be bothered with putting it away in the bathroom right now.
“Well, this is Y/n, my girlfriend,” Shayne pulled on your arm until you settled into his side. You gave a small wave. “And she made Italian for dinner so unless you now want nothing to do with me, we can start eating now.”
“Sounds great.”
Once you actually got over the initial awkwardness, your night actually turned out enjoyable. Damien was extremely funny and nice, just like Shayne had said. He’d even asked about your job and your own tattoos, expressing his own thoughts about getting one or two done himself.
“If you get it done at my shop, I can get you a discount,” you offered, taking a sip of your water. “Friends and family get twenty-percent off, though that doesn’t include the tip.”
“Really?” Damien asked. He looked shocked that you’d even offer to tattoo him, let alone provide him with a discount.
“Yeah,” you grinned. “Just let me know when and we can set up an appointment.”
“That’d be amazing.”
The three of you were sitting on the couch now, you and Shayne sitting on the side closest to the window while Damien was on the other end. His body was angled toward the two of you as “The Office” played quietly in the background.
“Does this mean I’ll be seeing you around more?” Damien asked. “Shayne always comes alone to out-of-work get-togethers and Courtney’s been pestering him to bring you around for some time now.”
“She has?” you looked up at Shayne, asking if that was true.
He nodded. “Why do you think I’ve been so insistent on getting you to meet my friends? They all want to meet you.”
“It doesn’t help that you’re all he talks about,” Damien chuckled. “I swear, every other word from his mouth is something about you. Whether it’s wondering what you’re doing to wondering how you’re doing, it’s always about you.”
You reached up and patted Shayne’s cheek lightly. “Aw, babe. You think about me? How embarrassing.”
He swatted your hand away, chuckling as you giggled at the shared joke between you.
You talked for a little longer, sharing stories between the three of you before Damien caught sight of the time.
“I should get going,” he said, standing up. You got up as well, giving him a hug before letting him and Shayne say their goodbyes. Once Damien had left the apartment completely, you released a breath you didn’t know you were holding in, you shoulder relaxing. While Shayne was an extrovert, you found yourself physically and mentally drained from hanging out with just one person.
The entire experience was new for you. Since you’d started dressing how you wanted to dress and expressing yourself accordingly, there have been people less than willing to be nice to you or show you any sort of kindness. It was mostly linked to the fact that people thought that if you wore black, put on lots of make-up, had piercings, and had tattoos you were a bad person and an even worse role model. Not only was that hurtful, it made you very self conscious about meeting new people.
“That wasn’t so bad,” Shayne said, pulling you in for a hug. You sunk into his arms, wrapping your own arms around his torso.
“It wasn’t terrible,” you replied, your words muffled by the fabric of his shirt. You turned your head sideways so that you could hear his steady heartbeat, allowing it to lull you into what felt like security. “Though, the beginning could have been better.”
“We’re never speaking of the beginning again.”
“Agreed.”
Shayne started to sway with you in his arms, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before letting go. “So how do you feel about going to brunch with the rest of my friends on Saturday?”
After meeting Damien, your anxiety had subsided. No longer did you think you would be judged for the type of clothes you chose to wear but this time the anxiety of meeting so many people at once surfaced. When you didn’t respond, he looked down at you worried.
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
“I just…” If you said what you were thinking out loud, you knew you were going to sound ridiculous. “It’s nothing.”
“No, really,” he frowned, “tell me what’s wrong. Bottling it all up inside won’t work this time.”
You sighed. “I--Shayne, you’re perfect, you know that?”
“I wouldn’t say perfect but…” You dug your fingers into his side, causing him to laugh. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
“It’s just that you’re the perfect LA Boy and I look nothing like the perfect LA Girl that you so clearly deserve. I mean, Damien was nice but that’s literally just how he is. What if your other friends think I’m, like, a terrible influence on you with my millions of piercings and tattoos and attention-seeking hair and--”
He cut you off with his lips, arms pulling you in impossibly closer and effectively stopping you in your tracks.
When he pulled away, you fixed him with a playful glare. “Shayne Robert Topp, you did not just pull a movie cliche on me while I was airing out all my concerns to you. Apologize right now.”
“I’m sorry,” he said, pressing another kiss to the top of your head. “But, Y/n, you don’t need to be the ‘perfect LA Girl,’ you’re perfect the way you are. That doesn’t mean I’d like you any less if you decided that you did want to become whatever you think is the ‘perfect LA Girl’ because I’d like you no matter what. I just like you.”
“Even if I went bald?”
“Even if you went bald.”
You’ve said it once and you’ll say it again: you fucking loved this man.
“I love you,” you said, pouting your bottom lip. You felt the tears prick at the corners of your eyes as you looked up at him in adoration.
“I love you, too.”
By the time Saturday rolled around, you were ready to meet the rest of Shayne’s friends. Most of your anxieties had been successfully quelled, though they still lingered. You had gotten your hair done again the day before, meaning you were now sporting a bright neon green. You matched your makeup to your vibrant new dye and picked out a heat-appropriate outfit.
“Are you ready to go?” Shayne called from your front room, interrupting your self-admiration session. You gave yourself one last look in the full-length mirror in your room before slipping on the pair of DnD dice filled platform shoes that added at least three inches to your height.
“Ready.” You stopped to pose in the doorway, the bottom of your shirt riding up as you leaned against the wooded frame. “Baby, how do I look?”
Shayne looked up from his phone, his jaw dropping the second he laid eyes on you. A blush settled nicely onto your cheeks, as you grew shy under his gaze. He dropped his phone on the couch and crossed the room in three long strides. He pulled you in by the waist, pressing a kiss to your lips. You melted into his touch, a giddy feeling spreading through your being as your arms looped around his neck, bringing him closer.
“You look amazing,” he breathed, pulling away. You giggled as you realized that a bit of your black lipstick had transferred off onto his lip. You reached up and wiped his top lip with your thumb.
“Thank you,” you giggled, rubbing your fingers together until the black rubbed off. “What time did your friends say?”
“We’ve got some time…” his fingers crept up your side, dipping under your shirt and tracing the band of your bra with his thumb.
You smacked his hand. “Naughty boy.”
You didn’t end up leaving the apartment for another thirty minutes, though you couldn’t complain about it. Still, you ended up making it on time. From where you’d parked on the street, you could see Shayne’s friends spread across two connected tables, laughing on the patio.
Damien was the first to spot the two of you, standing from his seat and calling out, inviting you into the sectioned off area. You took up residence in the seat closest to him, leaving Shayne to take the seat on your other side.
“You guys, this is my girlfriend, Y/n,” Shayne introduced you to everyone at the table. There were nine other people sitting at the table. You recognized maybe six of them from the videos you’d watched, while the other three were most likely spouses (considering how close they were sitting next to who you assumed were their significant others).
“Hi, Y/n!” the blonde sitting next to Damien greeted. You recognized her immediately as the inspiration for Shayne’s alter ego, Courtney Freaking Miller.
You smiled politely as everyone went around introducing themselves to you, from Olivia and Sam to Sarah and Claudio, you didn’t feel out of place for one second. The hand that had been tightly intertwined with Shayne’s relaxed as you grew even more comfortable around his friends.
“So Damien told us that you worked at a tattoo parlor,” Ian inquired, propping an arm up on the table and resting his chin in the palm of his hand. On his left sat Anthony, who also looked interested in your answer. “And Shayne did, too, I guess. Did Damien tell you that your boyfriend literally never stops talking about you?”
You giggled. “He did tell me that and I find it adorable that he can’t go a second without missing me.”
“I wish Peter was like that,” the purple haired woman, Mari, complained playfully, nudging her husband’s side. Peter just laughed it off, casually putting his arm around her shoulders.
“You do not,” he refuted. “You get flustered when I even mention you to my friends.”
She huffed, though there were no traces of anger to be found on her face. “It’s the sentiment that counts.”
Courtney put her menu down, reaching over to grab her glass of water. “I’ve always wanted to get a tattoo. Y/n, yours are so pretty.”
You felt the heat rise to your cheeks at the compliment. “Thank you! I actually did most of them myself.”
Courtney’s eyes widened at that. She reached over Damien, who had leaned far back enough in his seat to allow her to do that. She motioned at your sleeve, specifically at the roses that decorated the back of your forearm. They were cliche and most likely overused but you just thought they were pretty.
“Those? You did those yourself?”
“Yeah!” you said enthusiastically. You offered your arm out, allowing her to take a closer look. “My friend, Alyssa, designed it for me and as soon as I was trusted to wield an actual tattoo gun, it was the first piece I worked on.”
“That’s insanely cool,” she gushed, tracing a finger over one of the larger roses. “And you’re insanely talented.”
“Thank you!”
For some reason, Courtney was originally your biggest concern. Most of the insecurity had sprouted from the constant online presence of the ship Shourtney, which Shayne assured you was nothing but a meme. And you trusted your boyfriend, and though you didn’t know Courtney, you trusted her too. But sitting here, at the same brunch spot as her, sharing the same meal as she was, all your fears washed away.
It was incredibly difficult not to like her. Not only was she extremely nice, but insanely pretty as well. Though you had to accredit most of your confidence to Shayne, who only had eyes for you despite everything else. You’d thought that you would find yourself vying for his attention in front of everyone but not once did he leave you to flounder. He was always there, ready to step into any conversation you were having.
When you’d all finished your meals and began to wrap up the late morning, you couldn’t help but show your gratitude for your amazing boyfriend by pressing a huge kiss to his cheek, whispering that you loved him while everyone had grown content in their own little conversations with each other.
Content, he grinned and his arm around your shoulders tightened just that much more as he used his free hand to tilt your face up towards him. He pressed a kiss to your lips, keeping it short and sweet, before pulling away and whispering, “I love you, too.”
