Top 5 Tim’s donuts
1. canadian maple my beloved, bullshit that they're the "specialty" tier or whatever as though they're not a classic
2. chocolate glazed would be number one except the glaze to donut ratio is inferior to the chocolate glazed timbit.
3. vanilla dip sprinkles for that post-6am hockey practice Tims run nostalgia hit. i think they're also classified as "specialty" now too like just say you wanna gouge that extra quarter smh
4. sometimes you want an old fashioned plain and a small black coffee so you know what it feels like to be your grandparents and also because the old fashioned plain is a fucking solid donut
5. tbh the apple fritters kinda slap

ok so emoji ask thing. for claire my Beloved. 🍩 donut 🌙 moon 🍁 maple leaf ✏️ pencil 🎵 music note 🌪️ tornado and 🌠 shooting star. i will not apologise for so many. i love this guy
claire. sweep.
🍩 DONUT - favourite sweet treat? he doesnt really have a huge sweet tooth but i think he likes like. pastries and stuff... also honey. get this guy some baklava
🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it? this is hard to answer... i think his "greatest wish" is justto have a reliable and loving family + to have the people around him safe. ive talked about that maintaining the life he builds for himself is the most important thing to him once he has it and that later in his story/past where it would end and later into his life his family + friends are his main focus. but before annies death her inclusion in his life is a large part of that as well even though his attempts to give her more chances and to allow her time to change were putting himself and the others in danger. so who can say...
🍁 MAPLE LEAF - what is their favourite season? why? probably... spring
✏️ PENCIL - is there a particular quote / lyric that you associate with them? eek not really... 😔😔😔
🎵 MUSIC NOTE - what is their playlist like? their favourite artists? do you associate a particular song with them? my short and pitiful claire playlist...
knives out by radiohead too but thats on annies playlist... its relevant to both of them though. idk what kind of music he would listen to probably his taste would not be like whats on his playlist though. i really need to go through this again and sort it and find more songs to add i feel like its much weaker than my other oc playlists even if its longer than some (guy who struggles so so much to find oc music)
🌪️ TORNADO - what is the biggest change you've ever made to them? how have they changed from their original version? visually i dont think hes changed much... i dont draw him w makeup anymore and his hair is much thinner/straighter bc i feel it suits him better. character wise hes much less angry + hostile to others... especially after he has more of a support group. he originally was very abrasive and mean and that didnt change all that much as time went on and he is still not the friendliest or nicest person but its toned down a bit. this is a funny one to answer rn though bc i currently want to really overhaul my ocs and theres a few things about him i want to change up but im not quite sure how im gonna go about that yet
🌠 SHOOTING STAR - if they could make any wish with no repercussions, what wish would they make? im taking this as much more fantastical than the other wish question. i think it depends when u asked him this... when he is with the fosters it would just be to be gone. through a lot of the story and for a while after her death it would be for annie to come around and listen to what he has to say... and of course what i said earlier

What are the odds for eating tasty Doughnuts ?
Tumblr media
Hello
My name is Maurice Gillard and I am going to introduce you doughnuts... Dessert is for me the greatest part of the meal. I love it ! Doughnuts is something that I really like and that is why I am going to talk a little more about it.
Tumblr media
Doughnuts = what's about ?
Doughnuts, also known as donuts, are a popular and beloved pastry treat that has become a staple of American culture. These round, fried or baked treats are typically made with a sweet dough that is deep-fried until golden brown and then glazed, filled, or topped with a variety of delicious toppings.
Doughnuts come in many different varieties and flavors, from classic glazed and chocolate-covered to more unique options like maple bacon or blueberry cake. They can be enjoyed at any time of day, from breakfast to dessert, and are often accompanied by a hot cup of coffee or tea.
While the origin of the doughnut is debated, it is believed to have originated in Europe, with some sources tracing its roots back to the Dutch. Today, doughnuts are enjoyed all around the world, and have become a beloved treat for people of all ages and background.

Lena can't believe what she's hearing. And worst yet, she can't believe that she's hearing it from Brainy over his mouthful of seasonally spectacular maple-frosted donuts.
"Brainy, what did you just say?" Lena asks, already feeling the beginnings of a stress-induced headache forming at her right temple.
"I said that there is a ninety-eight point nine percent chance that I will finish this tray of donuts within the next two minutes after which I will require further sugar intake in order to reduce the heightened levels of anxiety that I am currently feeling but of course, being a twelfth-level intellect, I had already forseen this problem and thus acquired not one but two trays of donuts from Noonan's this morning," Brainy rambles, finishing a whole donut in two big bites. There's frosting on his chin and even a smattering of crumbs across his left eyebrow, only adding to the rather disheveled appearance of her dear friend.
"No. Not that. I meant, what did you say about Kara?"
"Ah, yes! She told me that she's thinking of venturing back into the Phantom Zone to rescue Nyxly," Brainy repeats his earlier statement, nearly stopping Lena's heart dead in its tracks.
She'd thought she heard it wrong the first time. Turns out, not only did Lena hear it right, she was also once again, hearing it first from Brainy. Not Kara. Meaning that Kara was, once again, off making huge life-altering and potentially world-ending decisions all on her without even at least consulting Lena first.
"You look a bit, how do they say, peeved?"
To say that Lena was a bit peeved with National City's beloved hero would truly be the understatement of the century.
"I am very peeved, Braniac-5."
"But Supergirl also told me not to worry! She says she'll have a plan," Brainy pipes up, Boston-creme filling pooling at the corners of his mouth which he makes no attempts to wipe away. Somehow, Lena has the mental wherewithal still to hand him a few napkins from her purse but it was all quickly crumbling under the weight of those dreaded six words.
She says she'll have a plan.
Generally speaking, it should be considered a good thing that the Girl of Steel is inclined to "making plans." That would mean that A) she was at least thinking about the consequences of her actions and, more importantly, B) she was decidedly not going to be running headfirst into danger within the hour. However, unfortunately for all of them, Kara's last three plans involving Nyxly have been: 1. Throw the Hope Totem into the Sun, 2. Rope Lena into using her magic to heighten the power of the Courage Totem which at that time was already causing vast amounts of destruction across National City, and 3. Steal the Sun and just put it back later. So all things considered, Lena is really not looking forward to hearing whatever "plan" Kara will cook up in regards to risking their lives and countless others to bring back the murderous Fifth Dimensional Imp who, only a few weeks ago, they'd been celebrating the defeat of.
Lena was going to need coffee. Lots of coffee before she could face Supergirl. She gets up from her seat at the workbench she shares with Brainy, grabbing her coat and tugging it over her shoulders. "I'm going to Noonan's," she announces. "I'm going to get coffee. And then I'm going to my Foundation's office building where I can be alone and free to scream as many obscenities as I can and want. Please tell Supergirl that I'll be waiting for her."
Through a whole chocolate-frosted donut, Brainy salutes.
----
The coffee that Lena gets from Noonan's is heavenly and does assuage some of her headache but as the hours pass without Kara's appearance at office her balcony, Lena finds that she's throwing herself back into work in an attempt to keep her anxiety levels at bay. Where Brainy has trays upon trays of donuts, Lena has piles and piles of work papers to get though. Quarterly reports and unread emails and business ventures and even a few R&D notes for projects that she's working on since she's taken up science again.
Sure, magic is cool and all, especially when she can use it to help her super-powered friends do amazing and incredible acts of the world-saving caliber but there was nothing quite like the process of designing and creating tools, inventions, innovations, that could help the everyday person. It was the very reason why she started the Lena Luthor Foundation in the first place, to help fund the future of young men and women who wanted to study science and change the world for the better, like she had once before.
As she ponders over her latest setback in numbers, a derived equation for polyatomic energy processing, Lena thinks of her mother.
Not sweet Elizabeth whose kindness Lena had never really known, but Lillian, whose snide remarks and constant disapproval of her had Lena erecting all of those lonely walls in the first place.
Lillian was a terrible mother, no doubt, but after weeks of the hard work put into processing her death, Lena had come to realize that her adoptive mother, for all of her flaws, had loved her in some way. After all, she was the one who pushed Lena towards science since she was a little girl and even if it had been for selfish reasons, Lillian had a hand in molding the woman Lena was today.
And Nyxly had killed Lillian, murdered her right in front of Lena's eyes.
God, Kara had better have a good explanation for wanting to bring her back.
Lena sets the pen down, the stab of tears in her eyes making it too difficult to see let alone think about overly complicated math equations. She chokes back a sob that threatens to tear from her throat, one hand slapping over her mouth as the other reaches to hold onto the desk in front of her.
"Lena?"
Kara's voice is right behind her, accompanied by the sound of heeled boots clicking against the polished floors of her office.
"I came as fast as I could after Brainy told me you wanted to talk but there was an incident by the interstate highway that J'onn couldn't handle alone," the hero explains, approaching Lena with worry lacing her voice. "Is there something you wanted to talk about?"
Lena takes a moment to collect herself, channeling the Luthor composure she'd mastered under Lillian's careful tiutilage from years ago, and levels Kara with a glare as she turns to greet her.
Immediately, blue eyes widen in such genuine concern, so sweet that it nearly cracks right through Lena's steely armor. She'd never been good at keeping Kara at arm's length.
"Hey, hey. Whoa, Lena! Are you crying?" Kara asks, panic clogging her throat as her arms shoot out to envelope the brunette in a hug.
Lena quickly evades her, taking a step back and crossing her arms over her chest, more out of self-preservation than a need for intimidation. Kara, for better or worse, halts her approach.
"Lena?"
"When were you going to tell me?" she demands.
The rays of the afternoon sun pool into the office through the large window panes, orange and gold color splintering across the planes of Kara's face. She looks warm, soft, and safe, smelling a bit of ash and seawater. The crest of House El that sits proudly on Kara's chest shines, a beloved symbol of hope but right now, Lena's never felt more hopeless.
"Brainy told me about your plan to bring back Nyxly, Kara," Lena manages at length, the words feeling like fire licking against the inside of her mouth.
"Lena, I can explain-"
"Not yet," Lena cuts her off, stopping Kara with a hand raised up, watches as the blonde's jaw clicks shut and she jostles her weight from one leg to another. Kara looks the same as she did that night after the Pulitzer party, on her balcony, all antsy nerves and baited breath.
"Before I can even begin to try and process why in the world you would want to bring someone like her back after everything that she's done, there's the whole glaring problem of you not even discussing it with me first," Lena begins, seeing the regret in Kara's blue eyes as it tries to pull her back in. She blinks away the tears in her own eyes as she stands her ground, unwavering even in the face of a regretful Supergirl who looked like she wanted nothing more than to wrap her arms around Lena and apologize until her voice was raw. "I thought we said no more secrets."
"I wasn't going to keep it a secret!" Kara can no longer hold herself back. "I was going to tell you, Lena, after I figured out what I wanted to say to convince you that it wasn't a bad idea."
"Oh, so you knew I'd be opposed to it then?"
Kara grimaces as she places one hand on her hip, the other running through her blonde curls. She looks out towards the sky, a chalky orange that hangs over their beloved city. "Of course I thought about what you might think since Nyxly..." Kara swallows thickly, "Had a hand in Lillian's death."
"Then you should know that there's no way I'd ever forgive her," Lena replies with ice in her voice hanging like crystals. "And even beyond my own personal feelings against her, she's a power-hungry maniac who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Is that really someone that we should be putting our lives on the line for, Kara? I mean, hell, and we haven't even talked about the fact that you'd have to go back into the Phantom Zone to save her! We nearly didn't even make it back the first time and now you want to risk it again! And you? Kara, you nearly lost yourself to that wretched place once before and this family was utterly broken without you. I was broken without you and if I lost you like that again-"
Lena's breath falters, shatters inside of her throat like glass before settling deep in her gut like dread. Lena folds her hands into balls over her chest, feeling the bruising grip of fear on her heart at the haunting memory of seeing Kara's terrified face as she was sent hurtling into the Phantom Zone by Lena's own crazed brother.
Kara's expression crumples in front of Lena's eyes, the blonde sinking into herself with a drop of her shoulders.
"You don't really know me at all if you think I'll agree to any of this, Kara," Lena hisses, tears soaking her palms as she brushes them away frantically. Her composure is lost the second she imagines losing Kara again, the terror leaving her weak in the knees. She stumbles backwards, falling into her office chair with little grace. "So I want to know why you even got it in your head that you could change my mind."
No longer able to keep her distance, Kara takes a tentative step forward. Then another, when she sees that Lena isn't stopping her, and within the blink of an eye, the ends of her red cape pool on the ground as Kara kneels in front of Lena, a pleading look so earnest in her crystal blue eyes that Lena has no choice but to look into them. She searches and easily finds an unending warmth, a single-minded devotion to her that Kara never tries to hide. Despite herself, Lena finds her body reacting to Kara faster than she can think and her hands come up to cradle the hero's face with the same genuine reverence. Lena's thumbs brush across the soft skin of Kara's cheeks and she feels the blonde tilt into her touch with no hesitation.
"Just what are you thinking, Kara Zor-El?" Lena asks, voice barely above a whisper and hoarse from the strain of holding back tears.
"I'm sorry, Lena," Kara answers, turning her head just enough in Lena's grasp so that she can press a kiss the open palm of Lena's left hand. She does the same with her right one, then looks back up to her with sincere apology. "You're right. I should've talked to you first so that you could hear it from me instead of someone else. But I promise you that I wasn't trying to keep it a secret from you nor was I going to just run headlong into it without telling you."
"But why do it at all? Why risk it for her after what she did to you?" Lena asks, desperate to keep Kara held in front of her like this, whole and alive.
"Because I've been there."
"What?"
"The Phantom Zone," Kara supplies, her lips trembling to even utter the name of the tomb that she had been imprisoned in for what felt like years.
Even with her father by her side, the one saving grace to that nightmare, the Phantom Zone had been a devastatingly cold place without light or love or compassion. The barren wasteland held little in the way of kindness or mercy, something that Kara still believes that Nyxly might be capable of, something worth fighting for.
"I... I know that she's done a lot of bad things and hurt a lot of good people, you being one of them, but I can't in good conscience just leave her there after I found out what she did for Esme."
Lena's eyebrows furrow even deeper, her thumbs stopping their tracks over warm skin. Kara takes the opportunity to grab hold of Lena's hands and she pulls them from her face only to cradle them tight against her chest, placing them right over the crest of El.
"Esme told me about what happened when she was... with them. Lex, he- he tried to... to hurt her, Lena," Kara explains, sounding as if her throat was closing up at the mere thought of anything bad happening to the little girl.
Lena shares the sentiment, jaw clenching tight. If she could, she'd save Lex from the Phantom Zone just to be able to send him back in.
"Nyxly stopped him," Kara continues with shaking breath. "After she saw that Lex was willing to murder an innocent child, she broke their alliance. She protected Esme, Lena."
"And you believe that just because she's above murdering innocent children that she'll suddenly switch over to the good side once we rescue her? Kara, you and I both have seen what she's capable of. Just because she did the right thing once doesn't mean that she'll do it again," Lena says, getting up from her seat and offering a hand out to help Kara up as well.
The blonde takes it immediately, lacing their fingers together as she follows Lena's pull to the outside balcony. The autumn air this high up is colder than expected but all Lena can feel is Kara's radiating warmth as she comes to stand beside her. Lena looks out over the city skyline, taking in the view that she loves so much.
When she first arrived in National City, all that she dared to allow herself to hope for was to start anew and put her company to good use, to help change the world for the better, to do no harm, to be the Luthor known for light where there was only darkness. That alone, Lena had considered to be lofty goals.
The Lena of the past would've never in her wildest imaginations believed that it would be possible for her to find anything else in this city beyond that and yet, here she was now, not only having become the Luthor known for her compassion, a hero in her own right, but also the Luthor who was so utterly surrounded by love. She was often photographed walking out of various restaurants, arm in arm with the highly-respected Kelly Olsen. Seen playing and winning rounds upon rounds of billiards at Al's Bar with the acting DEO-chief, Dr. Alex Danvers. Found sharing coffee and gossip with the lovely Dreamer at the Center for LGBTQ Outreach.
But most remarkably of all, and often the topic of many headlines since they first announced their relationship, were her frequent, public appearances with National City's beloved cape-wearing Super, each one marked by Kara's proud, affectionate gaze which was always directed so unwaveringly at Lena, that it would be absolutely absurd to try and deny the resounding love and devotion in Kara's heart for her.
Somehow, Lena had managed to not only find a home here in National City, but she also found a whole family to share it with, so the thought of letting that all unravel was unraveling her.
"What're you thinking?" Kara asks softly, moving in close to press against Lena's side, that same affectionate stare holding Lena in place, tethering her to the ground.
Lena sighs, a small sound that's sweet against Kara's neck as she presses her nose into the ridge of her collarbone and feels Kara's arms wrap around her body, pulling her in and holding her close. "I'm thinking about how I know that no matter what I say, you're gonna come up with something better, something too righteous and... right about saving Nyxly and how I hate that you're right that there might still be some good left in her and how I love that you are always trying to see the good in people even when they've hurt you so much and how that's something that I still struggle with."
"But you did it with me," Kara points out.
"Yes, but I love you," Lena counters, returning Kara's hug as her arms secure themselves around Kara's waist. "I was already in love with you long before you hurt me and I hurt you so the road to forgiveness was... more accessible."
"I love you too," Kara says, pressing a sound kiss to the side of Lena's head. "And I hope you know that I don't ever expect you to forgive her for what she did. That's not what this is about. And even if we do end up going to rescue her, you don't have to come-"
"Like hell I'd let you go back in there without me," Lena mumbles, blunt teeth scraping gently against Kara's neck just enough to elicit a small shiver. She feels the blonde only tighten her grip, a smile blooming on Kara's face.
"All I'm saying is that I don't expect anything from you other than your honesty. If you think this is a bad idea, then tell me. If you want to call me stupid, do it. Your feelings about this matter just as much as mine and so will everyone else's too once I tell them," Kara continues, one hand coming up from Lena's waist to card fingers through silky hair. "I just... sense that there's some good left in her that's still worth saving."
Lena suddenly shifts in the cage of Kara's arms, moving back just enough so that she can tilt her head back and look up at the face of her most precious person. She places one hand over Kara's sternum and feels the steady heartbeat beneath, strong and true. It was this loving heart that Kara holds in her chest that had melted away Lena's icy defenses in the first place. She absolutely adores Kara for her capacity for love, admires her for it, and knows that if there was anyone who could sway hearts, it's this blue-eyed angel. Lena's seen it happen enough times to know it's true; Lena, herself, is walking, breathing proof of Kara's ability to bring light wherever she goes.
"Kara, I hope you know that I would never think you're stupid for merely feeling a certain way. I admit that I may have reacted poorly because of my personal feelings regarding Nyxly and what happened with my mother and because of that, I unfairly accused you of lying to me. I'm sorry for that."
Kara covers Lena's hand with her own, presing her palm even tighter against her chest. Lena's so close that it feels like she could close her eyes and actually reach through to the other side, touch Kara's ribs with her fingertips and feel the etch of her own name on them.
"You don't have to apologize."
"No, I do. You didn't deserve that and I am sorry for it."
Kara beams down at Lena, sweet and kind and made of the honeyed light that surrounds them both, before she tips her head down and presses their foreheads together. "I love you, Lena."
"I love you too."
And then Kara's kissing her, soft lips slotting so perfectly against Lena's that she begins to understand the reason why people fall to their knees in prayer and worship. Had it not been for Kara's arms wrapped securely around her waist, Lena would fall. Happy to do it. In fact, Lena is probably always falling, caught in the inescapable gravity that is Kara Zor-El. The first kiss is a chaste press of their mouths, a familiar greeting, a silent apology on Lena's end, and a happy sigh to finish. The second kiss is deeper, with Kara's tongue tracing the curve of Lena's bottom lip and making her spine arch as her hands slide up from Kara's back to rest fingers on the nape of her neck. The third is all heat as Lena opens her mouth just enough for Kara's tongue to slip inside, greeting hers for a few teasing moments before retreating as Kara finally pulls back.
Lush green meets ocean blue, a marriage of the land and sea.
"For the record, I didn't expect that we would solve this issue in a single conversation. I still don't know what exactly I want to do about it even if I feel wrong about letting Nyxly stay in the Phantom Zone," Kara confesses. "But I wanted you to at least hear me out and to hear you out too. And I'll hear what everyone else has to say later. It'd be a dangerous mission and not one that I would ever ask any of you to go on without first considering all of the risks."
Lena's eyes shine, brilliant under Kara's adoring light. She rises up on her toes and plants her lips to Kara's cheek. "Good. Like we all promised each other, we're a family and whatever we decide to do, we'll get through anything and everything if we do it together. El mayarah."
Kara can't help but steal another kiss, feeling Lena's soft chuckle against her lips this time. When she pulls back, she's quickly moving to hoist Lena up into her arms. "Let's go home, zhao'te. That was more than enough arguing with you for one day. I am emotionally exhausted and in dire need of cuddles and takeout to recharge."
Lena laughs lightly, a happy sound that reverberates deep in Kara's bones, settling like moss over the Earth. "Then you better get us home quick, Supergirl."
Kara wraps her cape protectively over Lena's small frame, cradling the woman to her chest before she begins to float. Lena tucks her face into the crook of Kara's neck, and knows that she's going to love this woman for the rest of her life.

Lois/Clark + travel au + fake dating + “are you sure this is legal?”
again, its kind of a fake marriage and...also again....this is kind of the set up for the fake marriage scenario? i basically used this as an opportunity to write down a bunch of my lois headcanons for a period after superman reveal but before the get together lmao but i hope you still like it!! thank you so much for sending the prompt, i love lois sm and this was i think the first time i’ve really written from her (or actually written out lois and clark lol) so everyone please send feedback re: lois and clark characterizations!!!!
love u to the moon and back!!!!
---
“Clark, what does legal really mean, other than the things our government arbitrarily decided we’re allowed to do?”
Next to her, Clark rolls his eyes and Lois tries not to show the awe that briefly floods her body when she remembers that Superman is Clark is Superman is Clark, which means that when he responds to her quip, it’s not only as Smallville but as Kal-El, who she once named ‘the Man of Tomorrow.’
“Nice to see Libertarian Lois make an appearance,” Clark-El quips, and Lois nearly melts. It’s been about a month since what she, agnosto-sympathetic as she’s always been, termed in her own mind as the Revelation. Clark is Superman is Clark, she reminds herself as she always has to, to keep herself from running in as many directions as she can, vainly trying to outrun the fastest man alive.
Being, maybe. Because he’s not really a man, is he?
Clark, Lois thinks again. Clark Kent from Smallville, Kansas. Son of Martha. Man, man, man. Lois is no fool to think that he could really be anyone else -- Clark, for all that he’s apparently lied to her, couldn’t possibly have lied about this. Superman had always seemed so aloof, so removed from the daily grind of humanity’s issues: sure, he’s saved plenty of cats up trees, but Lois had always wondered if he understood why those cats were so beloved, or worse if he saw humanity as the perennial cat constantly stuck up in trees of its own making. But she hadn’t known Superman, really, hadn’t thought she would be able to.
Not like she’d known Clark. Clark, of the long-form article following the production of a single plaid shirt he’d been wearing on Monday during the week’s pitch meeting. Clark, who was always falling into step right next to Lois no matter where she was, or who she was up against, his heart the only one that burned like Lois when confronted with the nastiness of the world.
Clark, who Lois has always considered the most human man she ever met. Clark who is somehow biologically, the least human man in the universe.
“Lois?” Clark’s voice is just slightly strained as if he can hear the thoughts scurrying round and round Lois’s mind, but no Lois had asked about that during those first few terrifying days when up had seemed like down and she’d felt like the shittiest investigative reporter since Arnab Goswami. Clark couldn’t read minds, not really, he’d said -- he could at most see the neurons firing (and wasn’t that a horrifying thought?) but he hadn’t tried to figure out a pattern.
“But I don’t watch your neurons,” he’d said with what then-Lois had recognized as a hint of human-Clark, who she later realized was just-Clark’s shit-eating grin. “Your mind makes me dizzy enough when I’m just observing from the outside. Can’t imagine what would happen if I was trying to follow your thought process in real-time.”
Now-Lois shakes her head slightly, unattractive like a wet dog. “Sure it’s illegal to impersonate a pair of massage therapists, but you’re an extraterrestrial traveler, Clark. Do the mighty dictums of the United States really mean that much to you?”
She knows almost as soon as the last half of the sentence leaves her lips that it’s the wrong thing to say. Clark’s from Kansas, just like he always said. He was raised in Kansas, with Kansas values whatever the hell that means. Christ, she thinks, she’s never been so insensitive to an adoptee in her life.
A month ago, Clark’s face might have crumpled. Two weeks ago, he might have thrown Lois’s insensitivity right back in her face. Today, though, his eyes only go wide for a second, right before Lois sees them glint with what she can only label as sheer Clarkness. It’s a near cousin of his shit-eating grin, that’s for sure, and if it makes her heart race with a little anticipation that between her, the universe and, if he’s listening, Sup--
Shit.
But maybe Clark isn’t listening, too focused on what he’s about to say, because he plows on despite her heart rate. “Lois,” he drawls, “I don’t ignore the dictates of the United States because I'm an alien.”
Oh for fuckssake. “Clark now is not the time to crib off of your much cooler mom’s actual anarchist credentials. You can talk as much theory as you want, but you were the one who just asked if we should continue our pursuit of justice based on legality.”
Clark scoffs. “Perry suspended us for two weeks, and on day two you called me up and asked if I wanted to go on a vacation.”
Sometimes, Clark’s whole Clark-shtick makes it so that Lois can’t tell if he’s actually hurt, or if he’s just fucking with her emotions, the ones everyone told him she’d long shot dead and buried behind the house, for his own amusement. She squints, leaning in a little closer to check for his usual tells, and there! Just at the corner of his lip, a slight twitch, so minuscule that no one but Lois could have found it.
“You asshole! You were bored too!” Lois crosses her arms. “C’mon, would you really have been happy with a normal cruise, just floating on the ocean and wearing Hawaiian shirts while eating shrimp, no care in the world?” She raises her eyebrows, grinning like she’s trying to sell Clark a tub of Crisco. “Isn’t taking down the Mob just so much more exciting?”
According to her therapist, Lois was never really in love with Superman. Lois was in love with the idea Superman represented -- a good man, powerful without the corruption she saw infesting those with power every day, a man so far above humanity that he was safe from the trainwreck that was Lois’ interior self. He could never really love her back, so Lois was safe loving him, never had to worry about her job putting him in danger or her tongue slicing him up during an argument until there was nothing left but his torn up suit.
Clark, though, Clark was very real, her therapist said. Says, though Lois hasn’t been responding to her calls since the Revelation. She doesn’t know how quite to say “hey Doc, remember how we’ve been talking on and on about Clark and Superman, and how I have to ‘give up my illusion of safety in order to take a real leap of faith?’ Well, do I have a doozy for you!”
But anyway, the point her therapist was making was that Clark actually knows Lois, inside and out. Probably better than Lois knows herself, at this point, and he loves her for it anyway. Because he does love her, Lois knows. Just like Jimmy knows, and Perry, and Lucy, and hell the guy at her corner bodega too who thinks that “that nice plaid-shirt guy you’re seeing, who comes in to buy you a whole dozen maple donuts before he picks you up, he’s gonna pop the question any day now Miss Lane!”
Clark has loved Lois for a long time but never told her because Lois has spent almost the entirety of their partnership pretending to love Superman, afraid of being judged wanting by the only person in the world who could actually make that judgment in the first place. Clark loves her now, but Lois’ parents loved each other too once, and that relationship ended with her mom being just a little grateful that the cancer was actually going to kill her so that she wouldn’t have to put up with the General anymore. Lois knows that Clark thinks she doesn’t love him, that he thinks her love for Superman died in the fire of knowing that Superman was actually her bumpkin friend Clark, but for once she’s too afraid to report the truth.
The truth, that all those parts Lois’ mother hated in the General -- his stubbornness, his arrogance, his inability to see anything outside of the scope of his gun -- Mad-Dog Lane has too, probably in equal measure. Clark isn’t her mom, but he too is kind, and gentle. Soft sometimes, in ways that Lois can’t believe he manages when faced with the horrors of humanity twice over. He’s her best friend, her partner, but if they added another step to their weird dance wouldn’t it finally be too much? Clark has parents who love him, makes friends easier than Lois can breathe, but Lois has only Clark. Maybe Perry, but even then who knows -- Clark might get Perry in the divorce since he can actually spell.
“Hmm?” Lois shakes herself again, finally seeing Clark’s hand wave in front of her face. “Sorry, Clark.”
He laughs. “It’s fine Lois, I was just saying something you’d probably have liked to hear so it’s probably best that you didn’t.”
Lois clicks her tongue, rounding on Clark. “Well if it’s that I was right about you being bored after an entire two days off, then I don’t need to hear it. I already know I’m right and that’s good enough for me.”
Clark rolls his eyes. “One of the precious few times you are, since this idea of yours is all sorts of wrong. Beyond the legal thing, which I will remind you, is a matter of having a massage therapy license that neither of us has and as such, cannot in good faith offer massages as part of our jobs as massage therapists.” Funny that Clark seems to have no comment on the whole “fake marriage” part of Lois’ plan.
Lois brushes off his concern with what she thinks is aplomb. “See that would have been a problem for the Lois-of-a-month-ago, but today-Lois knows something that you apparently haven’t thought about!”
“Oh?”
Lois beckons Clark closer, and because he loves her, he humors her by leaning in close. “See,” she whispers into his ear, “Today-Lois knows that her partner Clark has super-vision, and can see all those pesky muscle groupings neither of us knows about. Just talk to me in a language we know but the client doesn’t, and we’ll be all good!”
Clark chokes. “You want me to...use my powers to aid in our...subterfuge?”
Lois raises an eyebrow. “Are you seriously telling me that you haven’t used them on a story before?” That would be very Clark-like of him, she supposes, but on the other hand, the Clark she knows would never not use a resource to help break a story. And, just like she thought--
“No,” Clark says, flushing beet red -- I made Superman blush! Lois thinks and tamps down -- “No I have, but just not so....”
“Planned?”
“No,” Clark admits, “it was definitely planned.” He laughs softly. “Honestly, I think it’s that no one else has ever planned to use my powers, at least not as Clark.” Superman, of course, helps build millions of homes and launches nuclear waste into space: there’re entire forums where top scientists compete to see which of their ideas Superman can help them fulfill. And here Lois is, asking him to use those same powers so that they can fake being massage therapists to coax out leads from horny couples with connections to the Mob.
She bites her lip, insecure in only the way Superman and Clark have been able to make her feel. Just figures that they were the same person the whole time. “Is..,” Lois swallows, “Is that ok? That I planned it?” Her eyes widen, sudden panic suffusing her body. “Ohmygod Clark, I don’t want you to feel like I’m taking advantage of you, or anything, I mean I definitely think your powers are cool but I love you for your mind first and fore--”
Everything inside and out of Lois’s brain shuts off. Did she just--
Clark’s jaw drops, wild hope Lois doesn’t even think he realizes creeping into the corners of his eyes. “Did you just--”
“I..” Lois’ brain is now entirely composed of those moments when your CD skips, no words, no feelings, just skips.
And then, like the greatest gift and curse the Universe could possibly bestow at once, the Cruise Director’s door opens. “Hello,” she says, glancing down at the names on her clipboard and doing a double-take. “Bumpo and Geraldine McTungus?”

Hear from Ryland Engelhart, founder of Cafe Gratitude, and other revolutionary leaders at Wellspring this October! For tickets and more information, click here.
Fall is the season for harvesting your hard work, nourishing the mind and body, and, of course, squash.
“Acorn squash is my favorite,” says Ryland Englehart, vegan food guru and co-owner of Cafe Gratitude. “Roast it with olive oil and sea salt and finish with a chimichurri sauce. So yummy.” He ain’t wrong—squash just might be the MVP of vegan and vegetarian recipes. It’s loaded with nutrients, supremely delicious, and hearty enough to serve as the main focus of a dish. And while we all know to run towards the reliable butternut and the trendy spaghetti, there are a myriad more options when it comes to this starchy, seasonal favorite.
See below for an essential guide to all things squash. We’ve also included some of our favorite recipes (all vegan and gluten-free!) so that you can put your newfound squash knowledge to the test.
Tumblr media
Kabocha Squash
Also known as the Japanese pumpkin, Kabocha squash is subtly sweet and smooth. Its fluffy texture and sweet flavor make it ideal for baking, steaming, or pureeing. You’ll know you’ve found it by its signature jade green and striped exterior. Recommended recipe: Kabocha Squash Lentil Curry.
Hubbard Squash
Probably the largest squash you’ll stumble upon, the Hubbard typically ranges from 8 to 20 pounds and ranges in color from a vivid orange to a grayish blue. The skin is tough to crack, but once you do, it’s oh-so rewarding. Its soft texture and savory/sweet flavor make it ideal for pureeing, mashing, or as pie filling. Try not to be intimidated by its weird exterior—the reward of impressing your loved ones with this weird farmers market find will be well worth the effort. Recommended recipe: Hubbard Pumpkin Pie.
Acorn Squash
Like most squashes, Acorns are nutritional powerhouses, and loaded with vitamin c, vitamin a, vitamin B-6, niacin, and thiamine. They’ve got a yellow-gold exterior with deep orange flesh, and yield a mildly sweet flavor. Whether you’re slicing it into wedges or cutting it in half, the end result is gorgeous and makes any meal like look like you ripped a page out of Barefoot Contessa’s personal recipe book. Recommended recipe: Stuffed acorn squash with leeks, quinoa, and herbs.
Butternut Squash
Butternut might be the most popular of the autumnal squashes—and for good reason. This long, bell-shaped squash is known for its golden color and sweet, nutty interior. It’s much easier to peel than most squashes, and provides a dense, creamy flavor the pairs well with both savory and sweet ingredients. Though it’s most often found in soups and stews, the versatility of this awesome squash make it an ideal candidate for a wide variety of autumnal recipes. Recommended recipe: Butternut Squash French Fries.
Spaghetti Squash
Spaghetti squash is best known for its ability to create a stringy, noodle-like texture, making it a beloved pasta replacement for paleo, gluten-free, and plant-lovin’ folks. It’s best steamed and roasted, then served with a flavorful sauce of your choosing. The spaghetti squash is essentially a canvas for flavor—serve it with a peanut sauce, good olive oil and herbs, or your favorite marinara. Recommend recipe: Thai Peanut Sauce Spaghetti Squash.
Delicata Squash
Delicata squash are smaller squash with yellow skin and green stripes. They’re different from other squash in that you can actually eat the sweet and tender skin—it’s super tasty and a huge time-saver. Slice it in half and roast as a side dish or add it to salads at home. Recommended recipe: Smokey Maple Delicata Squash.
Calabaza Squash
One of the most popular squashes in the Caribbean, this funky veggie has a sweet and juicy orange interior, similar to that of the butternut squash. It’s a little more challenging to cook with, however, as its red, green, or orange rind is super tough—albeit gorgeous. That being said, the Calabaza squash is a great option for when you’re looking to try something new or impress your friends with your produce prowess.  Recommended recipe: Calabaza squash with lime, garlic, and cilantro.
Sweet Pumpkins and Sugar Pies
We could never forget about the pumpkin! Note the difference between a sugar pumpkin and a field pumpkin—field pumpkins, like those used for jack o’laterns, possess a dry and flavorless flesh. But other varieties, most often called “sweet pumpkins” can be used roasted or pureed into soups similar to other yummy squash varieties. “Sugar pies” are the most common pumpkins found in pies, but they can also be used similarly to the acorn squash.  Recommended recipe: Baked maple pumpkin donuts.

Go on a Caffeinated Tour of the Research Triangle
Post from Girl Eats World Leave a comment/read the entire post here
My name is Linda and I’m caffeine-dependent. Since moving to the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, I decided to use coffee as my way to get to know the area and the people. At first it was just a means to leave the apartment and not spiral deeper into my homesickness, and then it quickly evolved into a fun way to get to know the area and the locals. What resulted from my tour was a list of coffee spots to satisfy all coffee whims.
1. Bread & Butter
503 W Rosemary St, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 http://www.chapelhillbakery.com/
Bread & Butter is a cozy coffee shop and bakery in Chapel Hill, just minutes from the UNC campus. They have mismatched worn furniture, a greenhouse style window, and the best brioche. I hear their brioche cinnamon buns are worth a try too. With reliable wifi, quiet atmosphere, and plenty of table space, Bread & Butter is the wonderful place to hunker down with your projects.
2. Caffe Driade
1215 E Franklin St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 https://www.caffedriade.com/
I had Caffe Driade on my list of places to check out, unaware that I drive by it almost daily! Caffe Driade is tucked into a wooded oasis for you to sip, think, and feel. There are also wine and beer and pastries you can purchase. It’s a perfect date spot under the stars at night and a great pensive space during the day.
3. Cocoa Cinnamon
Multiple Locations http://www.cocoacinnamon.com/
Cocoa Cinnamon has three unique locations and on my second day as a North Carolina resident, I went to two of them! The latest location has sugary churros and drinking chocolate. The churros come in unique flavors like orange and cardamon. I can’t wait to take myself out there for a solo date soon and try more of their lattes.
4. Parker & Otis
112 S Duke St, Durham, NC 27701 http://www.parkerandotis.com/
I’m creating a list of places to take my family and friends when they come and visit.  Parker & Otis is on this list! Great spot for brunch, lunch, and breakfast. There’s a gift shop that I could spend hours in, perusing their stationary, journals, and knick knacks!  I just know a few of my girlfriends back home would adore this space.
Tip for your first time: there’s a counter to order your food and a separate coffee bar counter.
5. Morning Times
10 E Hargett St, Raleigh, NC 27601 http://www.morningtimes-raleigh.com/
When I polled the locals about what coffee shops are must-visits in Raleigh, every single one of them told me that Morning Times is a must. It’s adjacent to and associated with Raleigh Times, which is also a popular eatery in Raleigh. They have an iconic sign at their front doors that spell out COFEE in pretty pink neon and their maple lattes provide a cozy nod to the fall season.
6. Monuts
1002 9th St, Durham, NC 27705 https://www.monutsdonuts.com/
I only sampled their donuts and lattes here and they were a delight! I hear that on the weekends there are long lines and crowds for weekend brunch. So if you’re looking for just an afternoon recharge, I recommend going on a weekday like I did! I especially liked their chocolate coconut cake donut which funnily wasn’t what I would have ordered. I let the cashier pick her favorite donut to add to my loot. So glad I did!
7. Guglhupf
2706 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, Durham, NC 27707 https://guglhupf.com/
A beloved cafe, bakery, and restaurant in Durham, Guglhupf is not only fun to try to pronounce but also fun to visit.  Guglhupf is popular for brunch and their dessert game is a strong one. Their leafy patio makes me happy!  Remember to stop by their attached bakeshop and pick up some croissants to take home! I enjoyed their chicken salad and look forward to going there for brunch!
8. Namu
5420 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, Durham, NC 27707
What sets Namu apart from the rest of the coffee shops on this list is that they also serve Korean food alongside their lattes! Read more about my solo date to Namu here.
9. La Farm Bakery
248 NW Cary Pkwy, Cary, NC 27513 https://www.lafarmbakery.com/
If you love bread and pastries, I’m willing to bet you’ll love La Farm Bakery. I could smell the buttery breads and pastries from their parking lot!  I took myself on a lunch date there and only wanted to grab a coconut latte and croque madame, but the angelic server presented me a white chocolate baguette sample. After tasting it, I instantly added one to my order to take home with me. Usually white chocolate anything makes me cranky.  (CALL IT WHAT IT IS, “NOT CHOCOLATE”.)  But as soon as I tasted their white chocolate baguette I was hit with both joy and sadness. Joy to have experienced such heavenly delight, and sadness that I couldn’t make a life of eating their white chocolate baguettes.
10. Bean Traders
105 W North Carolina 54 #249, Durham, NC 27713 http://www.beantraderscoffee.com/
Bean Traders make their pies in house and they have delicious and interesting coffee drinks to try. I had the habanero dark chocolate cold brew coffee to wash down my chocolate pie. This place was buzzing with happy people and activity.
11. The Pie Hole
810 9th St Suite 130, Durham, NC 27705 http://www.thepieholela.com/
Speaking of pies, if you’re obsessed with pies, there’s a place just for you here! The Pie Hole! Originally from LA, they recently expanded to Durham. I’ve missed their Shepherd’s Pie and Cereal Killer Pie since the moment I finished them off the last time I visited. Read more about them and gawk at the delicious photos on my dedicated blog post.
12. SOLA
7705 Lead Mine Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615 http://www.solacoffee.com/
Sola will always be special to me. It was my first coffee shop experienced when I came to the area a few months before moving here. I have a friend named Cassie I met online as a teen who turned into a penpal. We met each other for the first time at Sola. I’m so fortunate that seventeen years after meeting her online, we’re now just thirty minutes away from each other! Sola has a full menu and serves beer too! I quite liked their prosciutto sandwiches.
13. Blend & Co
127 E Front St, Burlington, NC 27215 https://www.theblendandco.com/
Tucked in the charming downtown of Burlington, North Carolina is Blend & Co. The light and airy space is Instagram friendly. And you can order smoothie bowls alongside your coffee. I’m going to be bold and say it. Smoothie bowls are better than smoothies! Blend & Co. also has a very cute mobile coffee trailer.
14. Jubala
Multiple locations http://www.jubalacoffee.com/
What makes Jubalya unique is their biscuits! What a pleasant and pillowy snack to have with your lattes. I got the peanut butter and honey biscuit. Their biscuits almost had the texture of a scone.
So that concludes my recent caffeinated tour of the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. Many thanks to these gems for giving me beautiful spaces to meet new friends, write in my journal, and crank out work.
Now back to you! Did I miss any of your favorites? Please leave a comment and enlighten me!
