Gosh sorry it's so long. I hadn't realized how much had been put into Sunny's character until you asked these questions, and I really want to thank you for that. I had to do a bit of soul searching for these answers 😂💖

Sunshine Alisabet Meadows

🧊  - Is their current design the first one?

Kind of.

What I mean by kind of, is that Sunshine has always been "the laundry bitch".

And I will come back to this later.

So, I'm gonna start this off by telling you that instead of using y/n in my reader x turt fics, I like to use pet names. Sunshine is one of those pet names.

And actually the pet name originally stemmed from Tethered - which has been being written for I feel like YEARS at this point, but has yet to see the light of day - whomp.

Sunshine is what Donatello calls his significant other, as a pet name in said series.

And actually, now that I think of it, I first used it in LBH BY Donatello, and I think it just kind of stuck after that.

Because we all know, I do love me some DonDon.

Then, Sunshine really came about next, through means of my one-shot Sniped.

She was dropped into an apocalyptic au through human trafficking and saved by Donnie. Later she moved in with the turtles on base and met Mona Lisa - courtesy of the wonderful @tmnt-tychou 💕

Her most current version that you all know and love, was restructured to fit in a Tactical Turtles (Rise) AU, where she met a hot ass mechanic - Axel 💖

🍀  - What originally inspired the OC?

Weirdly enough, a dream. I dream in turtle occasionally. And Donatello's pet name for me, was Sunshine.

The person really responsible for helping start Sunshine on her OC journey, however, was TyChou 🫶🏻

Mona was Sunshine's first girlfriend.

That's right folks, you heard it here first. MonaShine was and sometimes still is a thing. Because Sunny also loves herself a lizard girlfriend 😂☀️🦎💕

Sunshine continued her journey into what we'll call a group writing exercise started by the incredible @morning-sun-brah 💖 and in an au created by the equally amazing @donathan 🤩

She got a little resizing, if you will, to become a self insert character for said writing exercise.

And then she just sort of found a voice of her own as time went on. She does indeed resemble me in many ways, but she is very much *her own person* now.

Her girlfriend, Axel.

No but, really, I love everything about Sunshine. Girlfriend has been through A LOT. And put ME through A LOT.

Including springing the fact that she has an identical twin - Buttercup. Who I also love dearly, but that's a story for another ask.

Sunny is my most frequently written OC, although you'd never know it because most of her stories remain in my drafts, and unpublished 😅

Which is a crime because she's a friggin riot.

I love that she is sassy and sarcastic. She has such a wonderful sense of humor and a heart of gold. She is warm and welcoming, and she is equal parts safety and laundry. She is the epitome of Shenanigans Supreme® and if you ever looked up Little Shit™ in the dictionary,  you'd see her staring back at you.

She holds a very special place in my heart and is my favorite out of all my OCs.

Just don't tell her. It'll go straight to her head 😑🙄😂

And honestly, she's my OG laundry bitch, how could I not love her the most 🫶🏻☀️

And since we're here, and I'm writing about her character development, I want to give a huge shout out, and thanks to all of you who have helped me create and develop her. Especially @shiftandshade ❤️🥰

necromancy in tgoed talk ahead →

First: the only known successful necromancy in the TGOEDverse was by one Alisabet Altenwald, AKA Lady Lise of Clarin, daughter of Princess Margot and twin of Matthias. When she was younger she succeeded in bringing small animals back to life with what she calls “a touch of flame” – Altenwalds have fire-coded magic, so it makes sense that she associates her life-giving ability with fire itself. Generally this stopped at creatures like mice and squirrels. She showed her brother her accomplishments, and when he was curious about how she attained them without proper study, she started drawing out ritual circles and following some of the loose rules of the strictors. When she showed her mother, Princess Margot flipped the fuck out and told her to never do such a thing again; ashamed, Lise suppressed most of her own magical ability, using only what was necessary in a ceremonial context as the heir to the throne of Clarin.

Unknown to Clarin and the empire at large, when she was a young adult and was groomed to take over the lordship of Loënztorn, she returned to her passion – as a game hunter, no one questioned her taking up taxidermy as a hobby, and certainly no one would even think to associate that taxidermy with highly irregular, highly illegal necromancy. Lise studied the musculoskeletal structure of countless creatures in the dead of night, from the smallest of birds outside her window to the boars brought down on her hunts to the stablehand who died in her service, a stranger's bones burned in his place. A touch of flame brought breath into his chest – but no life in his eyes.

By the time she turned 25, she knew the body inside and out. She knew she could reanimate small animals, and they would scurry about and live as they had before; she knew she could keep them alive so long as they were close to her, but if they were too far for too long, the magic would degrade. Many of the cats in the granaries at Loënztornhold were much older, then, than they should have been.

When she was 30, her brother died.

It was a tragic accident in the letter that Claremontine wrote to Princess Margot. There had been a fire at the opera house in Grisencourt. Matthias was caught in it. Claremontine's daughter, no more than nine years old, was with him. It was devastating.

That girl knew nothing of devastation.

Lise wrote back, requesting the return of her brother's bones to Clarin.

The response was the same, that time and the next dozen times she made her request. She went through channels formal and informal, brought it up at every fashionable event that brought her to Grisencourt, ached – always ached – at how many hundreds of miles her brother was from home.

Always wondered. Could she? It hadn't worked with the stablehand, but the stablehand was not made of magic. Not like an Altenwald was. A touch of flame would rekindle the fire that was supposed to burn in Matthias's chest. It would bring him back, she was sure – she was so painfully certain – that she tested it a dozen more times to increasingly crushing results. There was life in the bodies she resurrected, but there was no life.

Finally, Lise searched out any information that could help her – that could reassure her that yes, she could have Matthias back; yes, her family could be whole again; yes, she could reclaim him from the southern princess who had killed him – and it had to be murder, because Altenwalds were made of flame. Finally, she crept down to the Lohennen crypt beneath her mother's palace, where the ancient rulers of Clarin had buried their kin before the Altenwalds and their hunts and their pyres. She begged for answers from ancient bones, trying each skull she found in case it held the spirit of some long-gone king or queen. Nothing.

In TGOED, it's been 18 years since Matthias's death – and no one knows about his sister's forays into the forbidden, but Margot can guess, having seen her daughter grow more and more reclusive over the last two decades. And Lise, still missing her brother, defies the empire in turn by keeping the traditions of strictors alive in Clarin long after the court declared their detailed studies of magic unacceptable.

And the cats in the granaries never seem to die.

You Are the Chosen One - Capital Map

So while character designs are fun I also need to design some locations. So I flower looking delta because while designing Alisabet and Meia I wanted to have some symbols of their religion to be tied to their outfits since they are royalty. I thought that the capital being on a delta that looks like a waterlily could make waterlilies important to them. The idea was that delta kinda looked like the a waterlily but then the city intentionally shaped it into something more symmetrical. I then talked to a friend of mine Pricilla Spencer who designs fantasy maps for prose books.  She gave me a few suggestions on locals to look up to give me an idea of how the delta would effect the area. Stuff like the palace gardens would probably be very elaborate, the rivers can be used for the wealthy to get around, and I should make sure to have a lot of farmland around it.

let's talk about Princess Margretta Altenwald of Clarin, also known as Princess Margot, also known as Mara to her people and Grosmara to her grandson and Grandmother to the children of the woman her dead son married →

from my notes:

• Considered to be the ‘Mother of Clarin,’ to the point where many of her subjects call her Mara when speaking informally. • She has spent the majority of her rule humanizing her family, teaching her children what goes into the day-to-day affairs of the common folk so they might better understand what they are fighting for. • She has spent the majority of her rule turning her grief into action.

She sent her son Matthias to marry into the royal family, and has regretted it many times since then. If he had only stayed home, perhaps he would be alive still; if he had only stayed home, perhaps she would not feel so broken or empty looking at the bedroom where her second-last surviving child used to sleep. Now she has only Alisabet, her Lise, and the palace at Clarin has grown quiet in its long mourning.

• Margot is a shrewd political mind. • She was the youngest of eight children who succeeded in being named heir due to her magical accomplishments, persuading her parents individually that she would be best suited for the role, and eventually convincing them after building an effective spy network that stretched across the six major cities of Clarin. • Now her network reaches as far as Emblesse, and she would be remiss if she wasn’t aware of everything that goes on in her empire.

Looking at the contenders for the throne, Margot would use her power to stack Everett’s hand. She’s certain that her grandson has the power and the force of personality needed to take the throne, and if he grows a little more serious, he might even make a good king.

Still, Margot doubts that the empire will last much longer. She eyes the tensions developing between its separate parts, each of them grating against the whole instead of incorporating themselves cleanly. If Argent and Clarin are not one after so many years, how could Argent hope to conquer any other state?

• After the Cour d’Empire legally disavowed the existence of the Clarinese tristor-punitor-strictor system, Margot has viewed its ability to legislate skeptically. • She has kept the system alive through her own private influence; while the colleges and official designations were disbanded, there was no legislation against her running a school of her own, and that’s exactly what she’s done. • Her school welcomes any who would learn magic, though the coursework is difficult and many leave before completing a single year.

She may or may not be the one who encouraged Everett to call himself a strictor. Seeing the look of discomfort on his mother’s face, the wrath in the balled fists of the aristocrats around him, she thinks it is worth it. She would rather see Alaisine d’Argent discomfited than anything else in the world.

After all, Alaisine is the woman who killed her son.
