22. Are there certain types of writing you won't do? (style, pov, genre. tropes, etc)

The first one that springs to mind is angst without at least a hopeful ending. I just... I can't do it, it makes me so upset. I love the characters I write for and - while I don't mind torturing them a little bit throughout the fic - I ultimately want them to be happy.

Another one is ship fics. I read them on occasion, but I have no urge to write them myself. And I don't want to end up in the middle of a war on what rare-pairs are valid or not.

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

I genuinely cannot pick 😭 ANY fanart based on my writing would be SO MUCH appreciated!!

55. Of the characters you write for. which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/reader's reactions to certain ones?

My faves are forever Kiri and Kyoujurou. I need to write more for both of them. I don't feel like my feelings for them have been swayed, but I am starting to warm up to other characters like Shouto and Bakugou, mostly through my moots talking about them.

it’s a generalization as i’m sure there are exceptions, but i’ve heard that “i love you” is rarely said directly in this way because some say this kind of love is something to be understood intuitively rather than be verbalized because verbalization… cheapens it? or like, because it had to be said aloud to be understood, the experience of the feeling isn’t as pure. so it isn’t seen as a necessity to say it?

You’ve got part of it right--it IS something that many Japanese people feel is inherently understood and doesn’t need to be said out loud.

But the reason it’s rarely said is not because they think it would cheapen it so much as it’s just embarrassing to say such a heavy phrase out loud. Japanese people are in general quite reserved as a culture (when it comes to personal feelings especially) and so overt professions of love using this phrase are pretty rare, because it’s such an all-encompassing, unconditional “I love everything about you, romantically, spiritually, familially” love.

Expressing affection/attraction can be easily accomplished with ‘suki’, which is bandied about without issue by the whole population--but this phrase in particular carries SO MUCH baggage, that there’s even a holiday in which husbands are encouraged to get up in front of others and scream 愛してる towards their wives XD (Jan 31, Beloved Wives’ Day) They must be encouraged to say it, because otherwise it’s just too heavy and embarrassing to use.

6. Do you have your work beta'd? How important is it to your process?

I rarely do... It's happened a couple of times. but I don't have a set beta-reader and I feel kind of bad asking my moots to beta unless I feel really insecure about a fic. Everybody is so busy. I ought to do it more though, me being ESL means that I occasionally have a weird way of phrasing things...

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

Too many to count! 🤣 I have well over 20 WIPs that need some work. But since we're going to be talking about Just Maybe later, I can bring up the kinda-sequel/rewriting of the ending I'm trying to write for it. I was never fully happy with the ending but I just wanted the fic finished, so I'll be remedying that with a more detailed ending.

25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?

All of them tbh. I rarely get a lot of feedback other than likes/kudos

41. Do you tend to re-read fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

It's rare that fics (or any form of storytelling, really) leaves enough of an imprint on me that I want to go back and experience it again. For a lot of fics I read them, I like and reblog, or kudos and leave a comment, and then I completely forget I ever read it. It's a shame really, but my memory is like a holey sieve, nearly everything slips through the gaps. That said, I ought to go back and re-read some of my faves.

75. What scene in [Fanfic Name] took the longest to write? What was difficult about it.

I think both the break up and the getting back together scene of Just Maybe took equally long. The break up scene was rough 'cause I don't like the idea of the reader making Kiri sad on purpose, but it was something that needed to happen. I also struggled a bit with Kiri's reaction. He's already mourning his long term relationship ending, he wants to fix it and realizing that he cannot. And I wanted to make sure that he stayed in character; I didn't want him to get overly possessive or aggressive - the breakup had to be a mutual decision or the getting back together part wouldn't have felt right.

And that was my whole point of writing that fic; I wanted to write an exes-to-lovers fic (another part of why I'm not satisfied with the ending, they never get back to being lovers again) so getting back together had to be a mutual want as well as a healthy decision. It wouldn't work if the same issues of Kiri never being home, and the reader feeling like a second choice kept cropping up. There had to be some major change, so it took some planning out.

3. In your opinion, what’s your best fic?

it’d... honestly be a tieup between Howitzer and nectar of the gods

11. Have you ever written a fic for a concept you know someone else has done before? How did it impact your writing process or feelings after posting?

if i’m honest, this happened with howitzer. i held off for so long that by the time i actually started writing it a long hockey fic cropped up in the tag, and then another one ended up part of the bang (sort of? apparently it’s more of a romcom type thing but one of them happens to play hockey but i haven’t read it so who knows how accurate that is haha). like they were different in terms of what we were trying to achieve as writers, and how we went about it, but yeah, it really... messed me up i guess. hockey isn’t exactly an overly popular sport compared to the other big sports, and sports aus are far less common than anything else, so i felt like the niche i’d been aiming for had been taken before i could get there. and it’s literally nothing bad on those authors, i promise this isn’t me saying that anything is their fault haha, but it did really make me less excited to write it, less willing to write it, because i kept telling myself that it was too late to be the hockey fic.

and to be honest i’m still not over that mentality. howitzer hasn’t done as well as i’d hoped it would (i actually lose followers whenever i talk about it lmao)  but i feel like that’s also in part due to my unrealistic expectations of myself, and of a fandom where most of the active users have just returned to school. so idk, i guess having the other fics there mostly just threw me. i’m trying my hardest not to think about them until i’m more comfortable with where i, and howitzer, stand hah

25. What constructive criticism, however well-meaning, always makes you feel bad when you see it in a review?

honestly i’m really bad at taking concrit but i doubt “everything” would be a very good answer haha. i guess the thing that makes me feel the worst is stuff about my style, the way i’ve chosen to express things? they sting the ego a lil more than other things i thing haha

26. What aspect of your writing do you most enjoy to see praised?

honestly... characterisation. i love hearing that i’ve managed to get the characterisation right for one person, for whichever character. i love hearing that i’ve managed to develop a character in a way that makes sense based on canon. it’s a really huge compliment imo

32. Who’s the one character who shines without you even trying?

... bucky. honestly he’s so effortless a lot of the time. steve i can have trouble with, but very rarely do i find issue with bucky. also nat basically writes herself, which makes things fun.

i love your characterization of him in that fic, that he’d be so focused on trying to do his best as a hero that he’d let our relationship with him suffer 🥺😭 that he’d fight for us when we try to leave him but ultimately let it stand because he doesn’t want to force it when when’ve made up our mind. that we meet again, still in love, and give it a chance!!!! ahhhhhh!!!!

And of course I loved your piece about Kiri and jealousy (or rather the lack thereof). I know I didn't really add my thoughts to the reblog, but I think you wrote him so accurately, like mans doesn't have a jealous bone in his body, if anything he gets self-conscious and worried that he isn't enough. But I believe that gets less frequent as he grows and settles into himself. It was perfectly written, and I can't wait to see the next thing you write for him 💖
