💛: what is the title based on?

The Tales of Merlia series' title is based on the ancient mermaid kingdom that fell from grace. The kingdom of Merlia was the first kingdom of merpeople, stemming back to ancient times. It was also the first kingdom to fall. But not the last. So, the tales of merpeople are the Tales of Merlia.

The Nimbus Saga is based on the concept of how air and water form clouds, and eventually storms together. Take into account the powers the MCs possess, it makes sense.

A Tale of Moonstone and Heather is the most simple out of the two. Moonstone and Heather are the nicknames Aster and Orion gave each other.

💚: how long have you been working on it?

Tales of Merlia started out as small series of stories I wrote in 2010. I no longer have the files for those stories, I was probably in fourth or fifth grade at the time and the computer I wrote it on is long gone. I didn't really start developing it into the series it is now until I believe in the summer of 2017 (I am really bad at timelines and have an awful memory. It is by far my oldest WIP.

The Nimbus Saga was developed during lockdown, in 2020. So...it's my youngest WIP for sure.

A Tale of Moonstone and Heather was created in the summer of 2019 I believe.

🖤: what are your MC names?

In Tales of Merlia, the main character is Delilah Mathers, and her two best friends, Merlin Windsplash and Pepper Whippertail. They are under the care of Torrent Lazulite Winters.

In the Nimbus Saga, the main character is Aither Thorin. He works under the Monarch of Candos, King Caspian the Kind.

There are three main characters in A Tale of Moonstone and Heather. Aster Isadore Laroux Whelan, Orion Bram Whelan, and Aria Melrose Leonard.

The Nimbus Saga: 6-30-21

Aither’s body became numb. It wasn’t a cold numbness, as strange as that was. It was a warm numbness. The kind that wrapped around his bones and made him feel his own limbs, not even the tips of his toes.

A thick haze washed over his dizzied mind, easing the rapid swift thoughts and silenced them with a patient hand. Replacing his fear and pain with the feeling of floating, weightlessness.

Images of fine iced champagne in crystal glasses, a fine rose patterned vanilla bean cate, fresh cuts of Atlantic salmon freshly smoked with dill and cream cheese. The sweet sound of violins and cellos. The mutterings and laughter from blurred faces clad in fine silk suits and dresses.

Aither could see a glint of golden light shining through the elegant slender glass like neck of swan carved in pure ice. He could remember the feeling of the black suit brushing against his skin, and the iciness of a slender white hand connected to a woven pattern white dress that seemed like to bloom like a white rose in a winter garden.

Till death do you part.

The priest’s words made Aither give a broken giggle, his eyes glazed over in a mixture of pain and tears.

“You were always waiting for me to die, weren’t you?”

With the help of the King of Candos, Caspian, a jolly young energetic young man forced to be king like the rulers before him. He must find out not only how to use his powers, but why he was gifted them and rather, what he is meant to do in this strange world. 

But with winter coming rather harshly, and the Kingdom by the sea, Calypse, closing off its ports and hoarding all of its resources, and the other two kingdoms suffering a rather rough food shortage, it is believed that Aither was sent by the goddess to solve this dilemma.

 If only Aither knew how. At the moment, he feels more out of place than ever. Will he find his place? Or will he forever be a puzzle peice from a different board?

The Nimbus Saga: The Long Winter: 7-14-21

“Such a life you lived…” the strange voice echoed through the room, “And yet you handled it with such poise. I cannot tell if that is a mark of bravery or stupidity.”

Aither said nothing in return, merely spinning slowly on the very tips of his toes as the wind ran right through his body, forming silver streams that sparkled in the dying light.

The voice seemed to chuckle warmly at this.

“The potential within you is strong, Aither Thorin. I see that now. Your soul shines in the dark, that much I can tell. But will you be enough?”

Aither felt the darkness press in on him, cold and nearly suffocating him. But he couldn’t stop, he was laser focused on finishing this performance. He had come too far to stop now, and who was to say when he would be able to dance again?

And now, his body had a mind of its own as Aither found himself one with the wind. When the wind stopped, only then would he stop.

He didn’t seem to focus on anything else, he couldn’t. He didn’t even seem to feel the shadows surrounding him anymore.

“Will you survive the Long Winter? I wonder…will these scars lead you? Or will they poison you?”
