AHS:Cult, or Why Ryan Murphy Continues to Disappoint
Excuse the rant, but a guy’s gotta vent. First off, let me just say I love the actual plot. The concept of a character dealing with mental illness that suddenly starts to manifest itself into reality is interesting, and I think so far it’s on track to do a good job of showing how quickly people with mental illnesses are to get written off as crazy. It’s scary, it’s real, it doesn’t feel like a gimmick.
But then there’s the whole concept of connecting it to “Trump’s America.” If you’re going to create a series about honestly living in fear in today’s political climate, this is not how to do it. I’ll give credit where credit is due in that the main couple is a lesbian couple, but that’s about as far as it goes. They’re white, own their own seemingly successful business, and one of them voted for Jill Stein (Sarah Paulson, the main character, who we’re supposed to sympathize with the most... I know, ugh). The other members of the main cast include Sarah Paulson’s therapist Cheyenne Jackson, who appears once, Evan Peters, an avid Trump supporter and all-around dickhead, and his sister Billie Lourd, who is, well, I’m not even sure what’s going on with her. (To be fair, she does interest me the most as her character development is still a mystery. But as of right now, she seems to be playing another villain along with Evan.)
That’s it. These five white people (or white-passing, in the case of Cheyenne Jackson, who I had to google to learn his father was Native American, but this heritage will most likely be ignored within the show) are the main cast of a series based around living with the fear created by Trump’s election.
So, where are the people of color? Well, Aimee Carrero and Rafael de la Fuente guest-starred... in a comic book scene come-to-life, and were promptly killed off by the fictional rebirth of Twisty the Clown. A group of Latino men appeared briefly, solely to showcase the asshattery of Evan Peters’ character, who was the focus of the scene (although, they did get to kick the shit out of him).
And finally, there was the brightest shining glimmer of hope in Tim Kang and Nanrisa Lee. They appear as a married couple in the opening scene, friends (and later realized as neighbors) of Sarah Paulson and Alison Pill. They had an interesting dynamic going as well; it wasn’t a marriage without its troubles, as Tim confronts Nanrisa about being “too busy to vote.” This hope for a focus on an Asian-American couple was unfortunately short-lived. Literally. They were dead by the end of the episode, the first victims (as POC usually are) of the clown cult terrorizing Sarah Paulson (although, unsurprisingly, not harming her).
In Ryan Murphy’s version of Trump’s America, people of color aren’t the heroes, they’re the background victims, which is unimaginative at best and harmful at its worst. We aren’t getting to see them fight to stay alive (Rafael de la Fuente fires a gun to no avail and Aimee Carrero runs and hides for a short while, but Tim Kang and Nanrisa Lee never stood a chance as they were tied up). We don’t get to see them work through their fears, the real, everyday fears people are actually facing in our world — deportation, corrupt police forces, Nazis in broad daylight, to name a few and barely skim the surface. Even that scene of the Latino men beating the shit out of Evan Peters has a catch — they’re being secretly filmed, which will no doubt be used later to further victimize them (as if having a condom of urine hurled at you and being told you don’t belong in this country anymore isn’t enough).
Instead, we’re spending a season watching Sarah Paulson get chased down by clowns. Which, as I said, would make for a great season. Sarah is a phenomenal actress, the clowns are great at being creepy, and mental illness is an important issue to discuss. But it’s not enough to be the season considering itself the horrors of Trump’s presidency. We’ve already seen a lot of those horrors: the travel ban, the attempted repeal of Obamacare and DACA, the transgender military ban (Chaz Bono, the transgender son of Sonny and Cher, also guest-starred as a grocery store cashier who dons a MAGA hat and praises Trump), the pardon of Joe Arpaio, the constant promise of the wall. Notice the victims of those. Notice the people who are fighting for their rights and their lives. Most of them are people of color. Many of them are poor. They are not seeing themselves reflected in this narrative. They are not being portrayed as the heroes, or the sympathetic characters. Even in a somewhat-fictionalized America, there seems to be no place for them.
Ryan Murphy has always stumbled when it comes to making large political commentary. His shows are at their best in the quiet moments, usually a simple, powerful line or moment. (The best line of the episode comes from Evan Peters, who mutters, “There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a humiliated man.”) It’s when he tries to go big that he tends to fall short (see also: the spiraling downfall of Glee, the faux-feminism of AHS:Coven). And with this season, he seems to be shooting for a massive statement. Only time will tell how far short he’ll land.
To be fair, this is only the first episode. The show has time to turn itself around, to right the wrongs it has already created. But judging from the main cast — and the most talked-about guest stars: Colton Haynes, Lena Dunham, and Emma Roberts — it won’t be doing that. Not only do people of color constantly find themselves the victims, in Murphy’s version of America, they must suffer in silence.
Edit: An earlier version of this post miscredited Jorge-Luis Pallo as the cashier in the grocery store. Thanks to the anon for correctly identifying him as Chaz Bono.

Finally watched AHS Cult tonight.
I knew it was coming, I knew this season was all about the politics. They’re making a mockery of both sides and I thought “Okay, I can handle this. I love this show and all its horrible shit so as long as they bash the shit outta the asshole right-wingers they can mock the left side too”. But then goddamn wonderful Sarah Paulson was talking to her therapist and did that speech about when Obama was elected and those without voices were finally heard and man....that hit me so hard it was November 2016 all over again. We had the most wonderful man EVER leading us and we fucked it up. This season is going to hurt so bad and all I can say is I AM her therapist right now, I don’t have a Twitter, I deleted friends off Facebook who voted for that asshole, I will call people racist motherfuckers to their face if they try to justify that asshole’s actions, and yet I want nothing to do with people. I am disgusted by America and the choices some of us have made.

LoT 7x01 spoilers:
Spooner to Astra: I'm not mad that you brought the cops here, I'm mad that you almost died
Spooner to Astra: We don't need another John, we just need you
Spooner to Astra: You're my best friend, I've got your back
Spooner and Astra: *sitting super close together on a giant rock, leaning into each other and just being happy to be together*
I'm feeling queerbaited...
Also there were so many Esperastra/Buddie parallels I CAN'T EVEN
And also they all looked so GOOD in their 1920s outfits! How is this entire cast so pretty???
-Quarantine Anon
The Buddie energy they had in 7.01 was UNREAL! I was screaming the whole time.
Ah the ping pong dance we do on the spectrum of bisexuality with this show. (Seriously, Ava made me SWOON)

Okay fuck it, I gotta give in, I gotta watch through Supernatural. AFAIK, it's all on Netflix; at least I saw it on there in passing. Going into this, is there anything I should be aware of? Are there any episodes I should skip, any seasons? Should I start from season 4? I know the basic plot and concept, and I know it's very monster-of-the-week. But aside from me highkey shipping Destiel already, that's all.
Well my first piece of advice would be
Tumblr media
but uh, let’s fucking ~GO~
If you’re actually jumping into this hellhole (why why why) don’t start at season 4. It’s tempting, but seasons 1-3 are some of the best shit in the whole show, also having context for Sam and Dean’s characters, and their relationship with the supernatural up to season 4 really highlights how fucking wild the introduction of angels is in the show. it’s basically a complete paradigm shift.
I would recommend you watch seasons 1-5 basically as is, though if you’re in a rush, season three is kinda skippable as long as you read a general synopsis. This is the original arc of the show and it shows. A friend of mine, @sammwinchestersdimples has said she’d have been fine if the show had ended there, and I can totally see her point. After season five things start to get... uhhhhh... not as good. THAT BEING SAID some really amazing seasons come later, and you’d get nowhere NEAR the Full Destiel Experience without them. What REALLY sucks is that all the seasons have good moments in them, so even if the seasons are generally bad, they’ll have episodes of GOLD. But fuck it, here’s a season-by-season breakdown.
Season 6 - This is the first... “eh” season. There’s a lot of character choices made in this one that I don’t like. The plot also doesn’t quite seem to know what to do with itself and it has no real main villain... or I guess it has a twist villain? This is also the season where they start chucking in the typical “no homos” you get when a show is queerbaiting, so they can point to the no homo bits and claim the queers are delusional.
Season 7 - The absolute WORST season, imo, is season 7, and it features Cas the least out of all the post season 4 seasons. You can tell the writers genuinely tried to write Cas off here. Not to mention the main plot is completely stupid. HOWEVER this is the season where we get golden things like Cas showing up to Dean’s prayer naked and covered in bees, and the episode where Charlie (best girl) is introduced and Dean subsequently has to flirt with a dude because she, a lesbian, cannot. (Wow so straight, Dean)
Episodes Not To Skip:
6x03 - A good Cas/plot episode (spot the famous destiel quote)
6x04 - A good all-round episode, also Jackles directed it so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
6x09 - This is one of the Batshit Episodes. Definitely watch.
6x10 - On the one hand, Cas episode. On the other, no homo, megstiel episode. Your choice.
6x11 - Good episode.
6x15 - THE ULTIMATE META EPISODE. Sam and Dean are teleported into Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles’ lives on the set of Supernatural and it is so batshit.
6x17 - Jolly good episode, and nice destiel content.
6x18 - Time travel episode, which is always fun.
6x19 - “Baby in a trenchcoat.” ‘Nough said.
6x20 - The Man Who Would Be King is the destiel episode. It is infamous in the fandom, and for good reason. It’s not just a good destiel episode, but one of the best episodes in the series. With banging lines like “Freedom is a length of rope. God wants you to hang yourself with it.” and “For a brief moment, I was me again.”
6x21 & 6x22 - The last two episodes are kind of must-watches after TMWWBK, trust me.
Episodes Not To Skip:
7x01 & 7x02 - follows on from s6 final. You don’t wanna skip.
7x05 - Good general episode
7x06 - Again, good general episode. Sets ups plot for the season.
7x08 - Ugh. So the A plot for this episodes invoves Becky, the insane, stalker, fandom-insert character, roofie Sam into marrying her (and it’s heavily implied they have sex - and it’s treated as a joke despite being LITERAL RAPE). BUT this is the episode where Garth is introduced and Garth is fucking amazing. So. IDEK.
7x10 & 7x11 - Plot important.
7x12 - Time travel episode! See if you can catch the bi!dean moment ;)
7x17 - Cas is back! Or is he???
7x18 - GARTH EPISODE
7x20 - CHARLIE!!!! WATCH THIS EPISODE!!!!
7x21 - Cas episode. It’s... interesting.
7x22 - The tagline for this episode is “Sam and Dean seek out an Alpha” 😭. It’s a Cas episode.
7x23 - If Cas weren’t in this episode I’d say skip it.
Season 8 - A fantastic season. If The Man Who Would Be King is the destiel episode, season 8 is the destiel season. When you watch this, DM me so I can RANT about all the amazing destiel this season. It’s also, again, a great season in general I remember watching it as it was airing it was soooo good. You have the arrival of the Bunker, you have Kevin and Charlie being awesome, some nice sprinkles of batshit episodes, BEST BOY BENNY rocks up in all his glory. Fucking epic season. Only downside it Sam’s character takes a bit of a dive. I’d recommend you watch through all of this season.
Episodes To AVOID:
7x13 - I literally pretend this stupid fucking episode doesn’t exist. Basically Dean impregnates a woman with Super Pregnancy and she has a daughter who becomes an adult within hours and then dies. The end. Everyone hated it. Man fuck this episode. Of course it was written by Buckleming.
Season 9 - Sadly, after how amazing season 8 was, and how spectactularly season 9 was set up, this season is a disappointment. It’s an ok season. It’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s just a bit all over the place.
I was going to give you the normal episode list to not skip, but looking through, most episodes this season should be watched for one reason or another. Either they’re Cas heavy, they do some interesting character building, or they feature one of the awesome side characters like Charlie or Jody.
This season is probably the height of the war in the writers’ room about destiel. Some writers want to no homo the whole thing and back way off, while other writers want to lean into it hard. So in the same season where SPOILER Cas loses his virginity to a random reaper woman and Dean kicks Cas out of the bunker to fend for himself, you also have Cas’ fatal flaw used as propaganda against him by Metatron being that he’s "in love” with humanity Dean. /SPOILER Whatever you do DON’T SKIP THE FINAL FEW EPISODES. TRUST ME.
Season 10 - Haha oh dear. This season is likely the biggest for wasted potential. You saw the end of season 9, right? You go “HOLY SHIT YES LET’S DO THIS” and then they do... season 10. They really became experts at setting up an awesome season only to fuck it up in delivery, right? Again, not a bad season, per se.
Episodes To AVOID:
9x05 - In which Dean wants to fuck a dog. I am not joking. I wish I were. Basically a spell-gone-wrong makes Dean doglike. it’s weird. it’s batshit. Not the good kind.
Season 11 - Season 11 is a pretty good season! They tried to give Dean a female love interest but Jackles said  ✨No✨ and played Dean as brainwashed and uncomfortable the whole time and I love him for it. Of special note this season is the episode Baby (11x04), which is my favourite episode in the series! It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, it’s weirdly shot. I love it! We also get casifer this season which is awesome! Some episodes are skippable, but they’re generally good episodes.
Episodes NOT to Skip (ignore the 10 year special):
10x01 & 10x02 - Great episodes, Dean in this is *chefs kiss*.
10x04 - *sighs* Fan Fiction. A 200th episode that is simultaneously a love letter to fans and laughing in fans’ faces. I’ve never liked this episode for the second-hand embarressment of it all, but you should watch it and see if you like it.
10x06 - Pretty good episode.
10x07 - Jody AND Donna! Fantastic episode!
10x08 - Dadstiel rears his ugly head. I fucking love how Cas adopts two (2) kids over the course of the series and in both cases Dean eventually goes “ah fuck, I guess I gotta co-parent this thing”. Also we get some KILLER destiel this episode. hey go on a DATE and Cas tells Dean he’s a good person ^_^
10x09 - Good episode. Much destiel.
10x10 - Charlie episode!
10x11 - Teen!Dean! Need I say more?
OK so I just had a look, and you really just need to watch every episode from this point in the season on. Enjoy!
Season 12 - Another example of a TERRRIBLE season, is season 12. Season 12 is also one of the most destiel-heavy seasons in the show. You see the issue? Like, it’s got a stupid plot that makes no sense and has no fucking cohesion, but you also FINALLY have the writers going “fuck it” and all in on the destiel. After this point Dean never has another non-Cas love interest and vice versa, they stop giving us whiplash from baiting and no-homoing. IF the conspiracy theory is true, and the end of the show is shit because of executive meddling, this season is the one where the writers decided they were gonna push for destiel endgame.
I gotta tell you the truth, I skipped this season in my rewatch, so all of my memories are from years ago when it first came out. This seson was the last that I watched live (for a reason). Should you skip it? No. But I’m not well informed enough about this season that I can point out what episodes you should or should not watch.
Season 13 - Congratulations! You’ve reached the point where the show’s gotten consistently good again! (just in time for most of the audience to have already left lol). We start off with SPOILERS Dean mourning Cas like he’s lost the will to fucking live. I’m talking complete despondence, praying for Cas to come back, lashing out in anger at everything, one of the darkest points we’ve ever seen him at on the show, then pulling a 180 and being super happy the second Cas comes back. /SPOILERS They also introduce Jack, who is the SECOND child Cas decides to adopt and Dean ends up co-parenting (Sam too). In fact, Jack is explicity Sam, Cas, and Dean’s kid.
Season 14 - Another good one. My only issue is where they decided to take the plot at the end of the season. I’d recommend watching it all, regardless.
Season 15 - And so we’ve come to the end of the line. This season was... well it was actually pretty good. It started off with what we hellers lovingly refer to as the “divorce arc” where Cas and Dean have a big blow up, and Cas leaves, but that ends with Dean praying on his knees for forgiveness and a nice hug. Honestly this season you can cut the tension between the two of them like a knife, and you can tell Misha and Jensen were doing it deliberately.
I’d say watch up until 15x18, then you decide what to do with the last two episodes. If you want you can watch them to understand just why people put their conspiracy theory hats on, or you can send me another ask and I’ll rec you some post 15x18 finale fics! There’s one fic that’s a replacement for 15x20 written in script format that is particularly good.
Anyway that’s it. It’s kind of left me a little sad, to break down the show in this way. Especially coming up to season 15 nd remembering all the wasted potential. Honestly if you do decide to watch the show, good luck. I hope you enjoy it. I’m also glad you never had to be put through the bullshit false hope that came about after 15x18.

What are the best episodes with Castiel to watch?
Hello! Sorry, this took me a while to answer but here you go! If I miss some it’s cause I don’t remember anything or I was just Bleh about it.
Castiel Epiosdes
4x01 ICONIC
4x16 ICONIC
4x20 Jimmy is important to Cas and I love him.
4x22 ICONIC Greenroom. Cas picks a side aka Dean.
5x03 Cas and Dean being friends! Gay panic is real my friends.
5x04 THE END. “It's the end, baby. “
5x13 “Sam is my friend.”
5x14 Cupid (He made a cameo video it was cute) and Cas eating raw meat off the floor.
5x16 “You son of a bitch! I believed in-” OWW
5x17 Drunk Cas.
5x18 At this point he’s just done with everything. So he just carves, YES CARVES, an angel banishing sigil into his own chest. He does not hesitate.
Season 6 is good for Cas because the whole time he’s apart of a civil war and is just a terrible liar.
6x06 I am trying not to make this list about Destiel but the scene where Cas pours Dean’s drink.
6x10 Pizza Man.
6x19 Baby in a trenchcoat aka leader of the heaven rebellion but sure Dean. He’s just cute.
6x20 ICONIC
6x21& 22 Both show that Cas is slowly realizing that he is not in control.
7x01 The whole episode is wild but Cas just going to heaven and saying I’m Daddy now really takes the cake. (not the actual words he used.)
7x02 Cas’s death #3?
7x17 MISHA -- OH um, I mean CAS to the rescue lol
7x21 His cute little laugh! Honey!Cas has my heart and soul. Bonus Destiel: “ When Castiel first laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost!” RIP Hester Queen
7x23 “Cursed or not.” Also his little smile when he asks for the plan ahh!
aka all episodes in s7 with Cas in it is worth watching.
Okay, I’ll try to control myself now but watch all of s8 cause its beautiful.
8x02 We see Dean’s POV to the purgatory portal scene. Also, hear Cas’s reason for leaving Dean.
8x07 We see Cas’s POV of the purgatory pov scene. Also, learn how Cas escapes purgatory.
8x08 “I’m gonna be a hunter.” He’s so CUTE!
8x10 Cas needs a hug. Please.
8x17 ICONIC. “what broke the connection?” AHH
8x21 Badass Castiel
8x22 & 23 Castiel wants to do good. He wants to help but he just puts his trust in the wrong people. It hurts me so much. Look he’s just a small child and he is dealing with a lot right now.
Season 9 Cas looks good. Like fanservice time father of two!
9x01 First look at human Cas!
9x03 I can’t watch this ending again. It’ll make me spiral. But it’s a good human Cas and destiel episode. Also, fuck April. She gross.
9x06 ICONIC BLESSED jilted lover.
9x09 He looks good.
9x10 “I prefer the word trusting. Less dumb. Less ass.” They are both dumbasses.
9x11 Sam & Cas chaotic vibes
9x14 Cas storyline with the angels starts or at least makes it more clear idk
9x18 Gabriel! Also, “Damn it, Dean!” and Cas accepts his role as a leader. The angels are dumb.
9x22 Sam & Cas dream team lol Also, Cas picks Dean over heaven again.
9x23  “--and for what again? Oh, that's right -- to save Dean Winchester. That was your goal, right? I mean, you draped yourself in the flag of heaven, but ultimately, it was all about saving one human, right? Well, guess what. He's dead, too.”
10x01 Cas draped across the bed like a victorian lady waiting for her husband to come back from the war
10x03 You know that scene where he’s lying on the floor bloody and dying and the Crowley saves him. And then Cas glows and heals with grace and he’s glaring up at Crowley? You know that scene. Yeah. Bonus: I’m gay and bloody Hannah is also hot. Small tip: Ignore the creepy/gross Hannah and Cas set up the writers are trying to do. They are siblings.
10x09 Claire! That’s his daughter!
10x10 Claire and Cas make me cry.
10x14 Deleted scene of “Maybe he’s your boyfriend.”
10x17 Sam & Cas! They are best friends, you guys!
10x18 Charlie and Cas meet! AND THEY ARE ALL HAPPY AND I CRY
10x20 Claire! Cas get’s her a birthday present, grumpy cat stuffy, and she keeps it! And I cry. And she saves him. And she cares about him.
okay 10x21 cause of Charlie and Cas but also fuck this episode. Charlie deserved better.
10x22 ICONIC gosh damn it. I-
10x23 Just for backstory for Cas in s11. Our poor boy can't catch a break.
I worked on this for two hours now Nonny and I don’t even care. I miss Cas.
Season 11 hurts my damn soul because of Cas. I won’t include Casifer, though it was A LOT of fun to watch him.
11x01 “Dean, did it work?” I wanna hold this poor sad madly in love man.
11x02 I can’t handle the torture. He looks so sad.
11x03 Bless you director, Jensen Ross Ackles.
11x04 Okay, not a lot of Cas but I love this episode.
11x06 They don’t talk about his trauma but they show us a little when he tries to leave the bunker. And I cried. Once again. Let. Me. Hold. Him.
11x10 Ambriel glad you are dead cause you were SO rude. Also, Amara girly, queen, I love you but apologize. Stop being mean to Castiel.
11x22 Cas get’s to talk and that’s nice
11x23 “I can go with you.” Sir, you just came back from being possessed by THEE satan and now you are ready to die by your future husband's side. You need therapy.
Okay, I stopped watching live after season 11 because of the way they treated Cas so these next seasons I binged watched ( a couple of times) but wasn’t apart of the fandom so it feels like I didn’t fully grasp them. But here we go!
12x01 Cas meets his mother-in-law. Also the little, “Dean!” when he hugs him.
12x02 Cas and Mick :)
12x03 Agent Beyonce and Zee lol Cas and Crowley and should have had a sitcom
12x08 Cas gets a text (angel radio) that he’s gonna be a Dad and it looks like when Alice had a vision of the Volturi in Breaking Dawn Part 2 lol
12x09 Let me hug Cas! He’s sad over his family being gone. Also, Mary, I love you but I don’t forgive anybody for being mean to Cas. All the Winchesters are on thin fucking ice with me.
12x10 ICONIC destiel. Cas in a female vessel.
12x12 ICONIC “I love you. I love all of you.”
12x19 Worried husband Dean. Excited soon-to-be father Cas.
12x23 Cas dies (again) from child birth.
Watch the first few episodes of season 13 for the famous widower arc cause wtf they gave us THAT. Also, I don’t care for the other world storyline so I pushed that out of my head.
13x04 Cas annoying a cosmic entity. Fun fact! I dislike the trenchcoat cause it looked so stiff and the color was off idk didn’t look great but Cas looked beautiful when he looks up at the sun! Ah!
13x05 IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN
13x06 ICONIC BROKEBACKNATURAL Also, Jack and Cas meet and I cried damn it. “I missed you.” That’s his son!
13x07 Cas doesn’t put anybody or anything above his baby boy
13x12 Cas has the dumbest husband but at least Cas stabs lucifer. Bet Misha felt good
13x14 Badass Cas. He’s a top. lol
13x16 ICONIC Cas looks...great. Like, watch it. I would do anything for cartoon!cas
13x19Just cause Cas faced someone who tortured him and it’s made to seem like he should get over it and it pisses me off. But Naomi is so cool so idk I like her but would fight her
13x22 Otherworld Cas is there and Cas just kills himself. He needs therapy.
13x23 Cas’s face when Dean says yes. Also, family hunting trip yay
14x01 Dadstiel! Also, Cas looks good.
14x03 Dadstiel.
14x07 Dadstiel. “Losing a son feels different.” And I cry.
14x08 “because I love you Jack. And Sam and Dean--they love you.” THEY DO LOVE HIM AHHHH! Also, Empty deal is made as an excuse for the writers to do something with Cas later.
I just realized season 14 is just Cas trying desperately to keep his family together. He’s trying to take care of them and he has the right words to say to everyone but not much happens besides him wanting to be a family man.
14x14 gay on gay violence lol Also another family hunting trip!
14x15 Fav episode! I just love Sam & Cas’s dumb chaotic energy in this ahaha! They are best friends damn it!
14x18 Cas is trying desperately to keep his family together and he feels responsible for Mary
14x19 Cas should have been allowed to kick Sam and Dean’s dumb flat asses for locking his baby boy in a box.
14x20 AHHH
Divorce arc! All of s15 is great! Except you know...19&20 but we ignore that in this house.
15x03 ICONIC but I will never watch it again
15x06 dude, they really be broken up. Cas kicks ass by himself and he’s fishing and he’s so cute.
15x09 ICONIC Let him talk, Castiel!
15x11 Cas is THEE best Dad and let’s Jack eat hearts
15x13 Just for the family.
15x15 :(
15x17 Cas working to keep his baby boy
15x18 :( I mean at least he’s out but :(
Okay, this took me all day and I had fun! Nobody is gonna read it but who cares cause I just spent my day thinking of Cas when I had a pretty shit day so thanks, Nonnie!

StackedNatural Day 6: 7x01
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
23 September, 2021
7x01: Meet the New Boss
Written by: Sera Gamble
Directed by: Phil Sgriccia
Original air date: 23 September, 2011
Plot Synopsis:
Castiel believes he is the new God and becomes obsessed with power. Sam, Dean, and Bobby try to find a way to stop him before he explodes with power, even if that means talking to Death himself.
Features:
Queer-friendly genocidal maniac Godstiel, the beginning of Sam’s hallucination arc, Dean’s cute little mechanic coveralls, some light breaking and entering, the original Death and his love of pickle chips, Leviathan reveal.
My Thoughts:
Hooo baby a lot happens in this episode. I have a feeling that early and late Stacked is going to be absolutely bonkers and mid-seasons Stacked is going to be…. either torturous or boring. We’ll see. Check in with me again at the end of October when I’ve been watching 15 episodes a week on top of my full time job.
It is so funny to me that the way they show that Godstiel is “evil” is having him kill the leaders of hate groups and healing leprosy patients. That church scene is sooo choice and the stained glass moment fucks extremely hard.
Some fun accidental foreshadowing of the Equalizer in season 14 and 15 when they’re talking about what to do about Cas in the garage and Bobby says, “What we've got to do is hunt the son of bitch. Unfortunately, I lost my God guns.” I don’t have anything insightful to say about that I just think it’s funny that they later introduced a God gun. I also find it very funny that in Season 5 Dean says about God, “Try New Mexico, I hear he’s on a tortilla” and in this episode Bobby is talking about looking for signs of Cas and says “Miracles, mass visions, trench coat on a tortilla?”. Like father, like son. I love them.
Had to pause the stream and rewind like 5 times but from what I can tell the sticky note on the spell from Crowley says “Bye forever you fools. Kisses, C”. Crowley maybe best character on Supernatural?
The three of them doing the death-binding ritual in this rich couple’s house is so good. Was that always the plan? Were they just going to quickly summon actual Death into these people’s home while they were asleep? Just bring the lightning thing to Bobby’s panic room or something. Leave the random white rich people out of it, the only thing they did wrong was have too much money and questionable taste in decor.
Also in that same scene, when Cas and Death are talking face to face and Dean is out of focus but visually between them… I don’t have the brain for meta at the moment but Dean either protecting Cas or leading him to Death via confession…. Waaah.
Is it just me or does Death confirm the existence of aliens? Like sentient aliens? “Maybe I should spend my effort on a better planet”.
I LOVE Sam’s hallucination arc. It’s good fucking writing to have him be legitimately traumatized by hell and the “torture” of his own brain making him doubt reality is genuinely scary to me in the abstract sense. I don’t know, I just read A Complete Kingdom for the first time so it’s working for me. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this era of Supernatural so I might be wrong but I feel like this is one of the last interesting plotlines that Sam gets, which is a bummer. I just remember really loving everything to do with the hallucinations and the cut on his palm.
Also in the (jesus christ) ten years since this episode aired, I’ve watched The Good Place like three times so I do love that hallucination-lucifer’s (are we still doing HaLucifer?) whole deal is basically the plot of an objectively better-written show.
There is a LOT going on in the last scene. For one thing it’s even more destiel-y than I remember. The whole “Is he breathing? Maybe angels don’t need to breathe” thing, the sad fucking piano that kicks in as Bobby says that he’s gone and the camera is close up on Dean, the shaky little way that he says “Damn it. Cas, you child”. The arm caress when he helps him up. That little reunion is filmed so that Bobby might as well not be there at all. Absolutely insane that we were YEARS from the market research here.
I can’t end this little ramble-y review without screaming about Misha’s acting, especially the leviathan button at the end of the episode. He’s so creepy and obviously Not Cas in that moment. Society if leviathan were That for the entire season rather than what we all know is coming.
In the Secret Good Supernatural that lives in my head, Godstiel lasts MINIMUM half a season and the degradation of his vessel and the creeping in of leviathan were a slow burn issue that culminates at the mid-season finale. And then the other half of the finale is Misha acting completely deranged as a vessel for leviathan before walking into the lake and giving us some solid grief arc episodes for Dean to wrap it up.
I love this episode but it loses points for Dean watching hentai. I hate it and I'm miserable and he needs headphones.
Notable/Kickass Lines:
“What a brave little ant you are.”
“Annoying little protozoa, aren’t they?”
“I am not petty. I’m punishing the woman who causes poverty and despair in my name. I put your needs first, don’t you understand?”
“Cas is -- he's gone. He's dead. We run the show now. Ah. Oh, this is going to be so much fun.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 8.7
IMdB rating: 9.0
In conclusion: I really thought that my 1 hour lunch break would be enough time to watch the episode and write this post and now I’m committing wage theft. Fuck.

Spoilers ahead #the100#7x13#bloodgiant
Is this an unpopular opinion: Clarke and the others (except maybe Murphy) are out of character for not understanding Bellamy?
We're talking about people who have done unimaginable wrongs in the name of survival and of saving their people. The only reason why they're not paralyzed by PTSD is that it's not conducive to kicking ass season after season. The idea of transcendence, of leaving all of their sins behind, should therefore be appealing to them.
The idea of heaven, of something beyond our mortal existence appeals to the vast majority of humankind, and most of us aren't burdened with the guilt of being a mass murderer. The fact that every single person that Bellamy cares about (people who have a whole departure spiel that ends with the phrase "may we meet again"...how, if not in some other form?) dismissed his reason to side with Cadogan as lunacy and brainwashing makes absolutely no sense. It is poor writing, pure and simple.
Clarke in particular should've understood Bellamy because it was only a season ago that she herself was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice so that her people might finally know peace and so she herself could finally leave all of her guilt behind. Yet she couldn't see where Bellamy was coming from? If she couldn't get past him siding with Cadogan, why not just kill Cadogan himself? He is responsible for Bellamy being brainwashed, he is the biggest threat to Madi. Instead, she killed her "best friend".
The show writers made Clarke and Bellamy call each other "best friends" in the past few episodes after keeping their relationship unlabeled since s1. A lot of people on the show have tried to define it, but Clarke and Bellamy themselves didn't call it anything. Yes they're friends, but not in the way that they're friends with Raven and Murphy, etc. What they mean to each other has been summed up by "I need you" and "together", their own words.
I therefore I feel insulted as a show fan by the way Clarke pulled out "so much for 'together'" in the last episode, "together" being another Clarke and Bellamy's catch phrase since Mt. Weather. She also said "you made your choice", echoing s5 "they made their choice" that she told Madi. I guess that I was supposed to have an "ah-ha" moment there, because Clarke would kill Bellamy for Madi, she's done that before, right? Um...NO. Clarke left Bellamy to fend for himself because he put Madi in direct danger after promising Clarke that he would keep her safe. Clarke didn't directly harm him even then. And anyways, Bellamy and Clarke forgave each other for that mutual betrayal last season.
But you know what I didn't hear Clarke say in the last episode? "The heart and the head", which was from last season too. That phrase references the very emotional moment Clarke and Bellamy had in Becca lab at the end of s4, which really summarized them as co-leaders and as whatever they were to each other. From Clarke's POV, she and Bellamy said "the heart and the head" to each other right after Bellamy brought her back to life mere days or weeks ago.
So the fandom's outrage, which does not come solely from Bellarke shippers, isn't just about Bellamy dying stupidly and unnecessarily over a notebook while he's supposedly hated by all of his people (Bellamy and Cadigan repeatedly stated that, yet Bellamy's people were just baffled and outraged by his perceived betrayal, and they verbally told Bellamy so. Nobody said "I hate you Bellamy").
The outrage is also about Clarke doing something that is so out of character that in my opinion the only plausible explanation to this nonsense is that Bob Morley was just done with the show and couldn't film anything more elaborate for Bellamy's last moment (if that's his last moment. Who knows with this show). Bellamy followed a terrible leader before and he paid dearly for it because his blind follower's behavior led to the massacre of allies. But in last episode's case he was trying to save all of mankind, his sister, girlfriend and best friend included. He got rewarded for it with a bullet to the heart by the latter. I'm not even going to comment on the fact that Sheidheda thought of the notebook and that the notebook was so conveniently there for Bellamy to grab and look at. Interestingly, Clarke couldn't kill who she thought was Russell when she was the most emotionally unstable we've ever seen her in 7x01. She didn't think of killing Sheidheda for giving away that big secret in last episodes. The fact that shooting Bellamy came to her that easily, when Madi was in no immediate danger whatsoever—the stone system was offline and Cadogan had entered coordinates that only he knew on top of his head—is terrible writing. Period.

no wait what did beliza say about bellarke i didnt. i havent paid much attention to stuff re the 100 in like ~a year or 2 cause it started to make me legitimately insane and if i couldnt throttle jroth with my own bare hands then i refused to remain a tortured bystander any longer but now im like. they had me in a vice grip for so many years i need to know everything. also any time i think about destiel/bellarke parallels and THEN how beliza fucking eloped at the height of it all it makes me want to commit to a life of crime so thank you for the reminder <3 currently on my way to burn down the cw headquarters
ah yes ! beliza eloping and then the CPR scene were like the light of my life in 2019 i literally was in the fuckin clouds
but essentially they miscarried and it started a Whole domino effect. bob AND eliza asked for time off and that threw the writers and jroth off bc they’re the mains so bob was only ina few eps (7x01 at the Very beginning and i think some others that were short clips including a short flashback be/cho scene) and then he got a solo ep which was shortly followed by his death on the show. meanwhile, clarke spent like four episodes in the same scene bc they were doing a bunch of eps that didn’t take place where she was and some flashback shit so that also gave her time off. clarke kills bellamy four eps before the finale, her kid dies (kinda), and everyone else “ascends” (which. bellamy believed in ascension and he was killed for it only for them to realize he was right all along) and clarke Doesny ascend only for her friends to come back and live with her until they die- but they can’t procreate so they’re literally just living out the end of the human race while they have clarke a fake alien lexa that only she can see and didn’t bring back bellamy or madi bc “that’s how ascension works” as if they didn’t kill emori in that ep AND as if they didn’t make these bullshit rules
as for the bts, jroth was PISSED that they were trying to take time off, so instead of dealing with it like a grown man, he decided they would instead take all of the bellamy storyline and give it to the other male characters (which is so obvious with how gabriel was in that season) and then kill him, with clarke behind the trigger. he also made eliza act out losing her kid and have this whole traumatic “my baby my baby” screaming moment which makes the whole thing starting w the beliza miscarriage even Sadder. after bellamy died, bob posted abt it on ig which cemented that he wasn’t coming back and then shortly after the show ended he was at some kind of panel ? and he said that yes the plan after s6 was that bellarke was supposed to go canon officially (not missing any stops and no deaths with them either) in season 7, but it was cut bc of jroth changing how the season would work. beliza Together have since made a cameo acc and they have said on multiple occasions that they wanted to do it and that it would’ve been great but in the end it just was scrapped during the 11th hour before they started s7 and if jroth wasn’t a Child he wouldn’t have messed up the last season of this show (which was meant to have a prequel) bc his main actors needed time off to process a loss. his deliberate mistreatment of poc, and especially moc, is so evident in the show but also so clear with the way they handled the death of the male lead. anyway tho bellarke was the true ending and the fake lexa was just another way they tried ro fix the mess they made (which also like. they were saying shit like “maybe she’s in the prequel !!” as if the prequel wasn’t set like 100 years before her time) and yeah! that’s the scoop on how s7 of t100 was
