Hi!! I hope you enjoy your break you 1000000% deserve one! Thought I would update you on my RE game progress lmao. Apologies in advance for how long this is.

I’ve almost finished RE 0 and OMG I LOVE IT!! Rebecca is so cute I adore her so much. I’m sad tho bc she didn’t even get 1 mission in before all the bioweapon bs. I also find it interesting that Birkin has such a big part in the overall & creation of the BOWs but he’s hardly in the games? Like he’s only actually in 0 & 2? And then bro just dies?!! And Wesker stays & becomes the big bad?!! I get Wesker bc they were both a huge part of it but the fact that Birkin is basically the one that started it and then just got pushed to the side is wild to me.

I tried to play OG RE4 but it’s so hard?! 😭 I can’t even get past the very first village right after the gate & the first typewriter. & I even asked my dad who looked up a play through and followed that but it’s just terrible. And I spent $20 on it so I’m going to have to try it eventually but it’s so hard. Why does the camera move 2 inches and then snap back to where it was it makes no sense.

Ahh classic RE4 🤭 it’s a toughie to transition to especially with how newer consoles have spoiled us with over the camera gameplay lol. It definitely takes some getting used to but if you can do it, it’s a fun game to play! It kicked my ass the first time playing it and had to ask a friend how in the hell he beat some parts 😝 (the part in defending the house against ganados with Luis especially)

OK now that Gabriella’s here I want to point out that Troy did actually come here of his own accord, of course he’d hoped Gabriella would be there as he was checking the audition sheet earlier, but I see this as being an “it’s less scary if it’s the two of us” thing, rather than him only being interested in the musical because of Gabriella. Sure, she sparked his curiosity as he realised how much he enjoyed the karaoke singing, but once he got to the theatre he wasn’t looking around searching for her - I think due to the sequels where Gabriella has to convince Troy to do the performance and he’s all reluctant at first, we kind of forget that initially, he was the one to take the first step, even if he’s too scared to actually audition here. I kind of wish they’d kept this and progressed it into the sequels so he’s more confident with his love of theatre going forward, but instead they keep repeating the whole “ahhhh I don’t sing” thing.

Gabriella: So you decided to sign up for something? Troy: Uh... no. You? Gabriella: No...

Okay Sharpay and Ryan’s version of What I’ve Been Looking For is more fun than Kelsi’s original for sure, but look Kelsi wrote the song that way for a reason – it probably fits the vibe of the scene and the emotions of the characters at that point in the story. So to see your vision ignored, and your song reworked without consulting you, that’s a pretty big insult for an artist. Like, that’s her song! Her creation! Also Sharpay and Ryan don't have the chemistry for the roles for obvious reasons, and their choreography can be a bit… idk... literal? At the line “that you were always there beside me” they often look at each other like “Oh! Haha there you are!” which is a bit of a shallow interpretation of the song imo. Like I get their limitation because they’re siblings, but that’s just showbiz you can’t expect to fit every single main role you audition for? Anyway it’s B tier for me, catchy enough but nothing show-stopping.

I like how there’s little hints at conflicts between the two though, like Sharpay stopping Ryan so she can walk out first, bumping into him during the number and her telling him not to do the jazz squares but Ryan doing it anyway. He’s not completely subservient to her.

Sharpay is so mean to Kelsi and y’all wanna say she was the victim here? She’s an elitist that doesn’t encourage new talent or cooperation, she just likes to be on top.

Gabriella: I'd like to audition, Ms Darbus!

I feel like they could have portrayed Gabriella’s motivations a bit better because they’re a tad unclear for me – with Troy we had scenes about his conflict and we can see he’s genuinely curious about singing on stage, but Gabriella seemed pretty certain she didn’t want to do anything like that right at the start of the year, plus she’s got major stage fright. So what exactly got her to go to the audition? Did she guess Troy would be there? If anyone's got any thoughts or meta on that I'd love to hear it

Troy is so kind to Kelsi aw, taking the time to boost her confidence. It’s not like he knew she’d play them the music, he genuinely just saw someone being mistreated and wanted to boost them up. In the novelisation, Kelsi is freaking out because THE Troy Bolton is talking to her and turns out he's just a nice sweet guy who doesn't think he's above everyone else, it's sweet.

OK I know people laugh at them being able to sightread here, but they already heard how the tune goes as they saw Sharpay and Ryan’s audition, and this is essentially just the same thing slowed down, with some prompts from Kelsi. It’s not thaaaaat farfetched.

So for Troy and Gabriella’s version of the song? I’m sure this version suits that part of the musical more, they have great chemistry when singing it and they can sing well, so I can see why Darbus would consider them. It’s just that in my personal rankings I wouldn’t really listen to this so it’s C tier, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. The song does exactly what it needs to do at this point in the story.

If that were the case tho i think that might just give me the ick 🥴😭😭 and I KNOWWW that that’s what Ari did to reader but reader’s supposed to be special 😔😔ykwim?? Also Steve really scared me bc he has such bad anger issues my goodness 😒😒🤨 like even if they did end up together I see no way of it working out bc he’s actually fucking psychotic and men who take out their anger on walls or by yelling or violence or just without even trying to talk it out are a bad deal. Ari and reader are definitely endgame. Episode 38 -Smoke Signal Review (spoilers)

I meant to post this review days ago but whatever here it is.

So …

Season 3! It’s here! It’s happening and I need to calm down!

Before I say anything I just want to say what an amazing job Wit Studio have done. That is how you kick off a new season… with a bang! …or should I say with a “BANG BANG!”

(get used to my terrible jokes)

But seriously, the bar has been set extremely high and so have my expectations.

That New Opening!

When I heard the short preview of the song my first thought was ‘oh wow, it doesn’t sound like an Attack on Titan OP at all’. This is by no means a bad thing, I actually think it’s a very good thing, because as much as I love the Linked Horizon openings, after three of them they were perhaps beginning to feel a little formulaic, so this change is refreshing and it suits the change in tone this season.

The song goes so stunningly with the visuals. The new OP is less of a call to battle than the previous ones and a lot more symbolic, with more focus on individual characters than combat. This is again very fitting because Uprising is probably the most character focused arc of them all

How fucking cute are baby Levi and Erwin!!! 😱

Oh! But this is what broke me! 😭

So powerful! It could be interpreted in so many different ways but for me I instantly started thinking about what’s been happening lately with Eren’s character in the manga. I’ll avoid saying too much about that to keep spoilers to a minimum but this part of the OP really made me think of that and how he’s losing touch with who he is.

Ahhhh so many feels before the damn episode had even started!!

As for the episode…

I’d already read reviews from people who attended the premier at Anime Expo, therefore there were no real surprises. Next week however I have absolutely no idea what to expect which makes it all the more exciting.

Episode 38 starts off fairly innocently with the new Levi squad bickering among themselves, then there’s that scene of the Titan experiment going horribly wrong…

although not even Eren’s fucked up face came close to being the most disturbing thing in this episode ....

(honestly this made my skin crawl to the point I closed my eyes and prayed for it to be over.)

Seriously, kudos to Armin for that body double mission. He really took a bullet for Historia, (I can’t even bear to think about had she been there in his place).

As for Historia, I loved that scene with her and Eren and I’m looking forward to seeing her be herself from now on instead of ‘Christa’.

(Also Something that isn’t talked about enough is how damn heartbreaking her backstory is).

The episode’s dramatic change in tone is when Nifa arrives with news that Erwin has been arrested and all of a sudden Levi and his squad are on the run from the law. While they’re standing on that hill having barely escaped the cabin, there is such tension and that’s when it really hits home that this is going to be a different show than what we’ve seen until now, with new, more dangerous enemies.

OH MY GOD! Did anyone else squeal when we got that little teaser glimpse of Kenny?! 😱

Actually before I talk about Kenny, can we talk about Levi? It’s so good to have him back!! In season 1 he impressed us with his skills but this is the season where we’ll find out who Levi truly is. Throughout the first two seasons we got inner monologues from many different characters; Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Reiner, Ymir but never until now have we had a chance to hear Levi’s innermost thoughts. His intelligence really shone through on that rooftop scene as he figured out the trap they were falling into.

Unfortunately he figured it out just a little too late.

This is the moment I fucking lost it! I had to shove a pillow in my face to stop myself screaming!!

My feeble words could never come close to capturing what this ending scene did to me!

Something about the way the credits started rolling as birds took off, shots were being fired and people were screaming, it was just ...

If pacing was one of the things Isayama hoped the anime would improve upon, I think it will definitely succeed if this first episode is anything to go on. As much as I love the manga, I think it’s going to turn out to be a good thing that they’re not following the same structure. If they did then we’d probably have to sit through 3 or 4 episodes of Eren’s failed titan experiments and people sitting around talking politics before we caught the slightest glimpse of action. I for one am excited to see Wit Studio’s reimagining of the Uprising arc and commend their decision to introduce Kenny sooner. Some may argue it was maybe too soon and I see both sides but personally I think this season needed a brutal, hard hitting premier like this to set the tone.

As for the stuff that was skipped over, I do think a lot of things are simply being saved for later but I’m also mentally preparing myself for many of my favourite moments to have been cut. However I put my faith in the team to know what they’re doing and trust they have made wise decisions when deciding what to cut.

The ending of the season 3 premier makes a lot of promises and I just hope the next episode is able to deliver.

But right now, for me, Sunday can’t come soon enough.
