I just finished Dungeon Meshi and I gotta say...do you think Shuro took some comfort hearing the bell ringing with Laios's steps? Like, might be annoying sometimes, but it would stop being so and start being worrying when it's not ringing. Like, at first Shuro would think Laois stopped to eat or sleep, but the worst must have been it going crazy with Laois's running with the dragons and the sudden, scary, stops.

OUGHHH.... i remember (again i Really have to get on with my reread) theres a bit where shuro waits to hear the bell but for once, after nonstop ringing, it doesnt ring, and it clearly annoys him like 'of all times to go quiet he chooses NOW??' but also i have to imagine the tinge of dread that sets in like. well why IS he quiet now when it would be ringing at all hours of the day.... i think he would definitely feel some relief afterwards when it rang again but youd be pressed to make him call that 'comfort' specifically 😭 especially because hed quickly swing back to annoyed with how often it rang lmao.

Thoroughly enjoying the “I hate this guy! He’s mean!” thought process for early Dunmesh consumers!

SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

When fundamentally, the book is about how there’s no actual evil characters at all and simply about desires and most importantly of all, a balance between all of them as an ecosystem.

People having the complex parts of their personalities, which are crucial but when one portion of it is only ever focused on or shown, caused them to seem like a bad person. Even if they’re doing it because of a good cause ir their upbringing. (Chilchuck to Mickbell, elves to everyone)

The extra in talking about how the Demon’s desires and consumption was never evil at all nor was it good, it just wants to fufill and satisfy desires living things have and is based on whatever the living things desire. It’s also shown how beings can desire things for their own, believed “good” cause, and still cause harm anyway. (Marcille trying to go through the dungeon in an upright and proper way, although it comes at the price of ruining the dungeon’s ecosystem, Thistle trying to protect everyone but causing the dungeon)

A balanced diet being constantly mentioned, but also alongside managing your habits and exercise. People coming off as evil to others when they have their own intentions which they believe to be justifiable and for the greater good. In the end, a heavy focus on one aspect can be as harmful as neglecting it. The constant theme of balance and how it fleshes out in different ways is throughly so beautiful.

Also watching people hate certain characters now, only for them to be more complex and develop even more overtime.

my love for chilchuck is singlehandedly spoiling me all of dungeon meshi. i have the tag filtered but everytime i see a post pop up im like "ooh maybe this is another chilchuck to look at :3". a solution is to read but i dont have time for it right now (and i refuse to watch the anime because the manga was on my list before the anime was announced).

im in spoiler hell but its worth it. to look at chilchuck. surely

Aint like, izu a minor? And the only open aroace character in dungeon meshi?

ok so few things here with this 1) i started shipping with izu basically like, a couple pages after she appeared XD this was when i had just gotten into dungeon meshi and so had spoilers blocked and didnt want to look at any extra stuff cause i didnt want spoilers. anyway cut to me realizing basically i went "ah shit, anyway aging her up now" i know some people are chill with stuff like that, i mean i follow proship tag so i see it often but it aint for me so i just age her up to same age. 2) she was never actually confirmed aro ace, that was the fandom going wild with the pages of her saying she "didnt have a type" and then the succubus stuff. people have taken that as confirmation for it which is perfectly fine, people are allowed to have that response and think that. But i personally say she is Demisexual, her not having a type because with the life she grew up with she had never really had a super close emotional connection to and so never had feelings for them. Same for why the succubus tried to show her mom instead of any romantic partner, cause the succubus couldnt really replicate close emotional attachments. Which is why with laios it just made marcille appear to say everyone was monsters now. Also i am asexual myself, have been for years and have been extremely open about it. Asexuality is a wide spectrum and can be everything from the thought of sex disgusting them all the way to like me where the thought of sex is nice, but actually doing it id rather go chill and watch movies and stuff. TLDR, i age her up after i found out how old she was, and even though i am asexual i headcanon her as demisexual.

My favorite Laius scene is when he feeds that one twink monster meat while the guy's trying to manipulate him. With the party in the background going full 'you do not have to to make him believe your on his side' and the twink having the face journey of forcing himself to eat it and go "yummy"

While laos just watches happily, presumedly fully aware that his new friend perhaps didn't want to. Linus just the kinda guy to walk up to someone and do some dom action but no one believes he tops.

They just look at his face and go "hours innocent looking, he must be a nice guy". Also the ask box broke 5 lines so so if there's Missouri i apologies

sorry to tease you but every way you’ve spelled his name in order: elvish/dwarven/halfling/gnomish the way i see it is, like he plays up not remembering kabru, because the person who is showing interest isnt the same guy who keeps bothering him, like that doesnt make “sense” but he does remember being “bothered” by kabru, he brushes him aside as he has this sort of energy that laios is just fully uninterested in but kabru is also Good with people, so good that it coaxes out this face of laios that he hides from others like that full frost, disgust stand on the top of a tower and be like youre all ants thats a bit dramatized but i think thats the intent

you’re kabru who can give everyone exactly what they want but doesnt know how to express his own heart's desires and this guy who is charming and bubbly with everyone blasts you with a cold shoulder this guy who lives solely for what he wants, you are kabru and you know he has no actual connections cause youve like ye old deep web stalked him but you cant really get much deeper than that because you’re kabru and you dont have any action connections with anyone either despite how much you’re there for everyone and how you have all their needs memorizes and he isnt ready to deal with that! it isnt until he meets mithrun and while hes still doing that im caring for you its like he doesnt have to pretend to be a billion things like tough and mean he doesnt want to be, he wants to be like a soft young man with friends who like him for who he is, he knows mithrun isnt planning to twist the knife in his direction unlike laios just doesnt seem to need anything and has a knife to twist

of course, he does! have needs, but its like the same thing with shuro on a level, he was keeping close to him cause of his nearness to falin, like would he have “let” falin be taken away in marriage to another country? um nope your brother in law is here too haha! most likely im like he says ill let falin know your feelings not you tell falin yourself when we get her back like, as if! but its also something he easily gets caught up in like oh your antagonist feelings towards me really ran that deep then show them? whats wrong with you why lie about what you want? you want falin so you must also want me, a world where he isnt the center of her world does Not exist to him (even before they fight we know his feelings are like this cause hes like shuro you look great, like oh you want this man to die and be dead)

like to laios kabru’s behaviors are predictable, human and boring, hes uninterested, but laios has this moment of like Oh! i can give that back! i can give you something human and predictable, And he does and its obvi that it was a thing he was just doing, even if he “meant” it, he shows a truer feeling to izutsumi when shes like DIDNT YOU PROMISE!! ; 0 ; when hes about to do something crazy town and hes like ah well have that dinner for me and leaves and he doesnt bother hiding stuff from her like he respects her beast self and relies on it so much that she can tell the moment hes off, there’s a lot of background stuff we dont really See much like mithrun’s story because it wouldnt "make for a good story", its like roleplaying players do between sessions with each other or with the dm or written documents it creates a very cool vibe i think in a different story it would be like this massive hole in the writing but its filled in by the familiarity of a roleplay group? Its a lovely tender story but i also liken it to like a theatre of cruelty, its wild, its questioning popular spiritual beliefs, theology, he literally does a dante’s inferno painting thing

Just binged Dungeon Meshi and got a scene stuck in my head, so I'm exorcising it to the net, not sorry.

A visibly upset Izutsumi asks Marcille to be petted, Marcille complies and tries to figure out what is going on. They talk until the others return.

TW: mention of sexual assault, mention of violence, cursing. Spoilers, I guess?

I was dozing meditating when something big and warm flopped over my legs. I opened my eyes to find Izutsumi sprawled over me. Her ears were pulled back and her tail was lashing in clear irritation. Her arms covered her face.

I glanced around the empty room, trying to figure out what was wrong ...

"Pet me." She grumbled.

Several thoughts jumbled jumped to mind. What was going on? Was she under the effect of another barrier? No, she was very tense and the barrier made her relaxed. Actually she looked like she was about to bolt off. A big kitty asked to be petted.

That last thought made the course of action clear, at least. I petted her head and back.

A bit later, she started to relax. Her tailed calmed, her ears perked up, her muscles untensed. One of the ears was now turned towards the door, I was pretty sure that if one of the boys came back, she would suddenly be across the room pretending that this never happened.

"I thought you were a bit fidgety lately. Can you tell me what happened?"

Her tail lashed once, twice.

"'Wanna stab a motherfucker."

A few moments later and in a lower voice, as if it loathed her to admit, she added:

"Trying not to."

That might be an issue, conflicts within parties could become messy. I tried to think on how to best approach this, but lets be fair, no one would acuse me of being tactful. I may the most tactful person in this party, though. I contained a sigh, and pulled the brush from my bag.

"Can you tell me who the... motherfucker is?"

She huffed at that, I'm not sure if in amusement or annoyance, not sure she would know either. I started brushing her back.

"Anyone in stabbing distance."

Hmmm... Trying really hard to ignore that I'm the only one within stabbing range at the moment.

That means the problem is probably not a particular person, but something between Izutsumi and the rest of the party.

"Did you feel like that before meeting us?"

She hesitated, then nodded.

I'm not surprised. I don't know much about her life before meeting us, but she was experimented on when she was a kid, she had the death curse on her neck and she dislikes the way she looks. I'd be more surprised if she wasn't angry at the world.

"That's... fine." Smooth. "What do you usually do when you feel like that?"

"Stab enemies. Run. Leave."

Ah! There was the problem. These last few days we've been in a very artificial part of the dungeon. Traps everywhere and very few monsters. Chilchuck has been slowly but steadily opening a path for us, or like right now, using the traps to cook our reserves in a ludicrously convoluted way. Boys.

This means she can't get some distance from us nor release pent up aggression on a monster, and there is not much to do except wait and not touch anything.

"Is this helping?"

Her ears pull back and her tail lashes a few more times, but she gives a tiny nod.

"Good. Feel free to ask, if you need it again."

I only got an mortified groan as an answer.

"It would also be good if we could reduce your stabbyness. Is there anything we do that specially annoys you or is somehow off-putting?"

She glanced at me. She has been pointedly not looking at me since this interaction began. Progress, I suppose.

She doesn't reply at first. I don't push. I'm brushing her hair when she grumbles.

"Coming behind me. Being noisy. Touching me."

I freeze. My heart skips a beat. I feel a cold dread spreading inside me. The brush clattered on the floor.

"Di-did anyone... huh... Did anyone touch you in huh... a 'special place'?"

She is a child! Wait, no. She's not an elf. How old is she? Is she an adult by human standards? Wait, does she...

She used her arms to raise her upper body and look me in the eyes. Her expression was like someone had asked her what part of the living armor would taste best. Her tone was like she was explaining to a child that fire is hot.

"If anyone tried, you'd know."

Relief flooded me, and I have to admit I felt a bit touched that she would trust me like t-

"On account of all the stabbing."

Oh, never mind then.

"Lots and lots of stabbing."

She plopped back on my lap.

"You'd need three dragons to fix that much stabbing."

That one was uncalled for.

Still, I took a deep breath and steadied myself.

"Sorry. I didn't think any of them would... do that, but when you said 'touching'..."

She groaned, I picked up the brush and started on her left arm.

She waived her other arm, eloquently:

"I meant, like, tapping my back, patting my head, holding my shoulder. Normal touching me."

I stop.

"So, what I am doing right now?"

"It's good. I want it."

I nodded and restarted brushing once again.

So she doesn't want to be touched, unless she wants to be touched. How very cat-like, but fair enough.

I suppose it makes sense. She's always a bit away from the rest of us, often where she can see us all. Unless she's lying on someone.

"Can I talk with the others about this?"

In a blink of an eye she is crouched in front of me, ears back, hairs raised, teeth bared, and a look on her eye that speaks volumes about stabbing range.

I raise my hands in a placating manner, I very much do not smile.

"Not like that, just that there are some things that you don't like us to do. So that we don't get on your nerves so much."

She untenses and looks sorry, but doesn't say it. I gesture towards the brush and she sits by my side, avoiding looking at me. I restart on her hair, which is all messed up again.

"We all have our quirks, that the rest work around. Chilchuck doesn't fight if he can avoid it and he hates mimics. Laios can be absent-minded if it's not about monsters. Senshi is... well, Senshi is Senshi. Only I am perfect".

Izutsumi side-eyes me, and I am grinning at her.

" I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I'm not as fit as any of you, and I risk depleting my mana in a fight. I often feel a bit like a burden to the party because of that, and get a tiny bit cranky about it. I was also the pickiest eater, at least until you arrived."

The others arrive then, bringing something which is probably unspeakable, but tasty. Izutsumi doesn't bolt, so I finished brushing her other arm before we get up to join them.

"I'll... think about it."

End.

My brain was very amused with the idea of the cat-girl going "I didn't stab anyone today, and I'm being very brave about it." and before I noticed it got lodged in my brain and started sprouting. hugh.

Fandoms I’m in

Better make this post know so people know what the fuck I post 99% of the time

Major Fandoms

DnD- I’m just a huge DnD nerd. I write campaigns and characters constantly and nothing can stop be because apparently I don’t burn out when it comes to DnD

DragonLance- Techinally also DnD, but I’m talking about the books here. I’m a huge Dragonlance nerd and yes I’m writing a letter to Wizards of the Coast for 5E Dragonlance books. Anyways I’m a huge huge huge Dragonlance fan, and will talk for hours.

Critical Role- I enjoy this DnD show so much!!! Ah!!! I’ve only watched the second season, and I’ve seen the first episode of Campaign one. CR really kicked off my DnD group and my passion for DnD got super reignighted. I’m a huge fan of all the characters, and the cast is great. (I tag spoilers for everything leading up to and past episode 26, cuz my brother watches cr and he’s only on episode 18-19 I believe.)

The Adventure Zone, All Campaigns- I also listen to TAZ! Just a great show, and I binged most of it while on a road trip. The headphones gave me an ear infection but the show is amazing and I’ve cried SEVERAL times. My favorite mini series is dust, but I LOVE the entire show. Actually got me into urban shadows as well!!

Puella Magi Madoka Magica + Spin offs- Lesbians. I love Magical Girl anime and manga, and I actually got introduced to Madoka because I grabbed it off a bookshelf ina rush to get manga at a bookstore. Basically it’s become a super important interest of mine because HOLY SHIT THE SUBTEXT. I also fucking LOVE magireco (Magia Record) and I’ve been grinding the newest event all day!

Dungeon Meshi/ Delicious in Dungeon- I just got into this manga but BOY OH BOY do I love it. It’s an interesting take on traditional fantasy manga and troupes, as well as a fun spin on cooking manga. I love it so much!!! I love the lore and the thought put into each of the dishes and dungeon levels, as well as the parties interactions with eachother. Plus gay subtext!

Pokémon- Do I need to explain this one or- I’ve been playing Pokémon as long as I’ve been on the internet, aka most of my life. It’s a very important series to me, and the content the fandom produces is just d e lightful. Sableye is my favorite Pokémon!

Homestuck/Hiveswap- I'm less active in this Fandom (Until act 2 comes out) but Hs is one of my longest standing fandoms (besides Pokemon!). I finished reading after the comic had ended, (ignoring epilogues hahahahhahahaha I can't read them because it's gonna fuck me up) and it left an impact on me! It's a good series man. Just, not for everyone.

Minor Fandoms

Danganronpa- I used to be super big into it but now it's more of a minor thing. Might rb some ishimondo stuff once in a blue moon but it's not like, major fandom stuff

Persona 5- I enjoy the game and I'm gay for Futaba but I mostly rb shit for my bro!

FNAF- Hahaha yeah I like the robot furry horror game sue me

Sonic- used to not care about but my passion got reignited after I got over some stuff. I love these games even if Sega shits out charmless games nowadays. Sonic mania is ,,, good.

Various other anime and manga- Soul eater, promised Neverland, ect ect.
