Daily Instrument - Aeolian harp

The aeolian harp, named after the Greek god of the winds, Aeolus, and originating in ancient Greece, is a box zither. It has a wooden sound box and 10-12 strings. Each of the strings are the same length, but differing in thickness and are tuned to the same note. The most prominent factor of the aeolian harp is it is played by using the wind. When the strings blow in the wind they produce different overtones, playing music. The aeolian harp varies in shape, some are a box while others are upright.

We absorb the philosophical message, at least initially, but means of eye and body. The senses offer a pathway for the artist that allows them to communicate essential ideas, directly and undiluted. Art that falls short of this achievement—art that deals only with particulars, or appeals exclusively to the senses, for example—is really not worthy of the title . . .
