Adventure! They were off! Overlord had set his sights for The US of A in their search for Aero, the little musical femme. Overlord was sporting the local attire. He'd invested in very large very... breezey leather pants. For some reason the aft part was missing, a fact that Overlord didn't seem to mind. It was quite invigorating actually! Quite refreshing!
He's also gotten himself a cowboy hat, providing a matching one for Sparkie as he prepared for the journey.
Let's see... energon treats, engex, energon, medkit, stasis cuffs, Celine Dion CDs... hm... what else was he missing... oh! Pinky! His beloved stuffed unicorn was snatched up from nearby, sealed away safely in subspace.
"How do I look, Sparkie?" Overlord tilted his hips, dipping his hat and nodding. "Paaaartner." He drawled out the word, lopsided grin on his faceplates.

The Steam version of Dwarf Fortress is coming out next week, and I’m pretty excited about it. As much as I love the game, the UI of the stock version is a hot mess. Just like this fire snake that crawled out of the smithee and burned down the broker’s offices and lower tavern before the mayor finally chomped it to death with her teeth. When I start a new game, I usually research the world to help out with the RP experience. If (for example) my dwarves worship a giant Great Horned Owl of Death, I’ll probably have them build a big inverted temple where they can sacrifice goblins by tossing them down a forty level pit onto an iron statue of heir deity. I actually did that once. Usually a lot of fun stories and characters come out of the game, and it’s a tradition to draw them so I’ll try to share some stuff here once I start!

AU Bot Plots: The Tea Pot Rebellion
Tumblr media
In this AU, Zuko gives up chasing Aang fairly early. After the siege on the Northern Tribe, and Azula's attempt to murder him on Ozai's orders, Zuko gives up on everything. He and Iroh make it to Ba Sing Se, and start working at the tea shop. What Zuko doesn't realize is that Iroh is still very active in the White Lotus Society, and the tea shop is a front for an underground rebellion (he'll be embarrassed later that it took him so long to realize, but in his defense, he's pretty deep into a depression. It's pretty easy to slip stuff by him at this point).
After teaming up with Toph, the Gang ends up going to find Hakoda and his crew. That's when they learn about the White Lotuses, who are trying to gather as much support as possible to overthrow the Fire Lord. Sokka's plan to use the eclipse is discussed, but the problem of who would take over the Fire Nation after Ozai is brought up. That's when the Lotuses with Hakoda reveal that among their group is a high ranking member of the Fire Nation royal family. They trust him enough to want to install him as the new Fire Lord after getting rid of Ozai and Azula as threats. The Gaang is given a mission; go to Ba Sing Se and get King Kuei to send his troops into battle, rendezvous with the Fire Nation noble, and protect him until they clear the way to set him up on the throne.
It sounds too good to be true, but Hakoda trusts the White Lotus Society, and that's good enough for his children, at least. Getting to Ba Sing Se is easy, but then they encounter trouble with King Kuei's advisor, Long Feng. They can't get an audience with the king, and are threatened to not speak about the war within the walls of the city. Still, they manage to connect with the White Lotus members in Ba Sing Se, who take them to the Fire Nation noble who they want to put on the throne. It takes every member of the White Lotus present to prevent Katara and her friends from attacking Zuko, but finally everyone settles down enough for the White Lotus to explain everything. This is how Zuko finds out that not only has his uncle been a sleeper agent for a counter-Fire Nation rebel group, that group is now enlisting the Avatar and his friends to help overthrow Ozai and set his uncle on the throne.
Only, Iroh has one correction to make. He doesn't intend to take the throne. He has done too much damage to expect the world to trust him anymore than his brother. Instead, he wants to put his nephew in charge of the Fire Nation. Iroh only intends to stay on as regent for a couple of years. Now the Gaang must put aside their differences to make sure that Zuko makes it to the end of the war.

Day 22 of Inktober is Heist.
Does your family have a default film, that you’ve watched together over and over and over? Ours is National Treasure. I don’t know why we love it so much. I think it came out at exactly the right time to appeal to all my siblings at once, and it had enough big name stars to draw in my parents.
I think it was our ‘The Mummy’, but with fewer scary bits. Adventures in a far-off country, mystery, chase scenes, treasure, a romantic couple and a funny guy. Bad guy with a cool accent.
I was running low on time tonight, so you can see the detail gradually running out as I worked from left to right.

Mutant Me
Had this really cool dream last night where I'd just joined this team of teenage mutants -- think New Mutants from back in the day, because that's probably what my brain based it off of -- and I was like, getting to know my teammates and fighting a monster and trying to pull off some kind of PR event that might also have been a protest... Was really having a good time being a teenager with mutant powers.

Having waited a few years to actually read and get into the lore of the Trinity Continuum version of the Trinity TTRPG is silly, but also it’s great because I’m absorbing multiple books at once and my brain is hyper fixating so much I’m vibrating.

The Dragon-Touched King
Tumblr media
Heat
Everything around him was on fire
The flame burned hotter than anything he'd ever felt, but they only threw off the faintest hint of light
Zuko reached out, groping blindly through the darkness. The intense heat was the only thing guiding him. The invisible flames drew closer or farther to show him where he needed to go. Suddenly the ground opened beneath him and he was tumbling down into the vast emptiness.
He landed with a thud on something much softer than the stone far he was expecting. The mound rose and fell rhythmically for a moment. Then it began to rumble and shake. Suddenly, sconces lining the walls flared to life. The light was blinding after so long in darkness, but it only took Zuko's eyes a moment to adjust.
Ran stared down at him, blue scales gleaming in the light. In spite of himself, Zuko trembled. He knew better than to think the dragon would harm him, but the sight of a full grown dragon was always awe inspiring.
How did he get here? Zuko wondered this for the first time since he'd found himself in the cavern with the nearly invisible flames. He had no memory of coming to the Sun Warrior's island, or to Ran and Shaw's cave. It occurred to him that he must be dreaming, but it was too real. He'd felt the scorching heat, Ran's scales shifting beneath his hands, the dragon's hot, moist breath rolling over him, causing his clothes to cling to him damply. If this was a dream, it was his most vivid yet.
Young Fire Lord. Ran's voice rolled through his body, felt rather than heard. Zuko scrambled to his feet and bowed respectfully. He cast around a quick glance for Shaw, but he couldn't see any sign of the tell-tale red.
You have been given a gift.
"Yes," Zuko acknowledged, thinking of the newly hatched dragon that had made itself a comfortable nest in Zuko's bed. "Druk has been a pleasure."
Young dragon is doing well. We see and we are pleased. Ran assured Zuko. But Druk is not the gift I speak of. Zuko's brow furrowed in confusion.
"I'm afraid I don't understand," he said. Ran let out a low rumble that shook the stone walls. It took Zuko a moment to realize he was laughing.
You will understand, Ran promised. Call up your flame. Zuko hesitated. If he was dreaming, and he wasn't entire sure one way or another, he could very well wake up to his bed sheets burning. But Ran fixed him with that unnerving sharp eye, and Zuko felt compelled. He held out his palm and willed a flame to spark. The familiar flame danced to life and flickered for a moment. Then the color changed. The flame got hotter and turned a deep blue. Zuko gasped, but before he could say anything, the color changed several more times. The blue flickered to red, then green, then purple, then it seemed to disappear from view, but Zuko could just make out a distortion where the flame still burned. The heat was as intense as the invisible flames that guided him to the dragon.
What does this mean?" Zuko asked almost to him self.
It is Dragon fire, Ran told him. Dragon-touched Fire Lord. You will lead your people back to true knowledge. You will show them the true mastery of flame. You will return them to true fire bending. Keeper of the dragon fire.
Zuko almost groaned. He understood what Ran was asking of him. It was daunting. He already was leading his people out of war and working to undo a century of dangerous nationalist propaganda. Now he was also being tasked with undoing the same decades' worth of improper fire bending techniques. Terrific.
Show them the true way of dragon fire.

This morning's adventure involved our neighborhood squirrel falling down our chimney and hanging onto the flue for dear life for about 30 minutes.
Luckily, Jpop was here because he burned his fucking face yesterday 🙃
Tumblr media
Jpop was trying to coax him down into a bucket, whilst I stood at the back door ready in case he got loose in the house (we have done this before when a bird got trapped in our kitchen wall in Kentucky). I also had covered the gap under the couches with blankets so it couldn't crawl under there easily.
FINALLY the squirrel jumped down, deftly avoided Jpop's bucket, turned the OPPOSITE direction from the open door, scampered on BEEFY all-fours towards the stairs, where Curious Cerry took up chase and (coincidentally and luckily) herded it towards the back door, where it LEAPT out the door and across the yard in about 4 jumps, scurried up the fence and over to its tree. 🤣
At which point, I hung up the call I was holding on for Animal Control.
Now Cerry is looking confused and sniffing around for her new friend.

Adventure Poll!
Previous Poll
Your first instinct is indignation. Leave? Just like that? Without even putting up a fight?! But you remember that pair of riders and their fury, and think better of trying to defend yourself in a lone farmhouse away from town.
"Yeah..." you say, "I was sort of thinking the same." The words are heavy in your mouth and you look around your small, but loved abode woefully. In the back of your mind you're already planning what to pack and where to go. "On the condition that you explain everything on the way," you add firmly.
The stone emits a wave of relief and excitement.
"Good deal," it answers eagerly. You start to quickly move around your house. You grab your travel backpack and start to pack it with potions, herbs, and food. You grab the bedroll from your closet and a coat that's old and ugly, but warm and waterproof. You'll have to shutter the windows and lock the doors, close the flue, and put anything that will rot into the compost pile in the garden. The plants will have to fend for themselves until you get back--though you're now a little more confident in their survivability now that you've heard them gossiping outside.
This feels like an emergency situation, so you retrieve your saved coin and hide it in various pockets of your ugly coat and clothes.
