TOH WITH A IMMORTAL READER!
Okay so this wasn’t a specific request or anything so I’m just going to answer here with how I think each character would cope with having an immortal significant other. This got very long as I included basically everyone that’s on my masterlist… oops!
Also, to reiterate, these are just my thoughts so they’re very biased towards how I interpret the characters — and your relationship with the characters can be romantic or queer-platonic or similar depending on your preference!
Thoughts below the cut!
Adrian Graye-Vernworth
doesn’t even remotely believe you at first and will probably assume you’re joking. but once he does recognise your honesty then he’ll probably have something of a breakdown for a while and step back from your relationship — equal parts jealous of the life you’ve lived and horrified at the idea of just being a blip on the radar of your infinite life. it’s 50/50 whether this is a dealbreaker for him and he’ll either slowly inch back into your relationship or just break up with you because of the stress.
Alador Blight
alador is mostly neutral to your immortality when it comes to your relationship. like he’ll call on you for a second opinion when he’s working on something and will draw on your experience to further help his fellow witches — but he doesn’t really think about it any beyond that. though he does sometimes worry about you and how you’ll cope when he’s gone (because he knows that losing you would break him).
Amity Blight
when you tell her it’s quite the shock to the system and she doesn’t really know what to say or how to react. she’ll freeze up and you can see her thinking as she considers her response before she finally squeezes your hands and thanks you for telling her. she’d want to stay with you and wouldn’t want to break up, but she’d definitely have a few crises over the fact that you’ve lived so long before her and you will live so long after — but she also finds a small bit of comfort in the idea that she’ll never have to live without you.
Belos / Philip Wittebane
he’s been alive for far longer than he ever should have been because of his mission, so the idea of immortal entities isn’t difficult for him to believe. so upon finding out about your condition, he’s amazed but not necessarily startled by it — asking you about your origins and if there are more beings like you out there. if he truly cares about you, he’ll stick by you for as long as he’s able to keep his form stable — but if he doesn’t then he’ll just use you to find a way to complete his goal and lengthen his life further.
Boscha
boscha is someone else who wouldn’t believe you when you told her — going from genuine disbelief to shaky doubt to outright terrified denial and then through the stages of grief as she comes to terms with your condition. as sad as it sounds, this would probably end up being a deal breaker and would end your relationship as she would struggle too much with your past and future to be with you beyond that.
Camila Noceda
she doesn’t believe you at first, thinking that you’re just older than her as she’s seen some strange things but immortality is just so far beyond that. it takes her some time to come to terms with this but you do end up bonding over the losses you’ve experienced throughout your lives — you, your various lovers and friends, and her, luz’s father. she insists on learning your native language and teaching you hers so that you have an experience to remember her by.
Collector
having an immortal significant other would be the best case scenario for collector given his own life span. they wouldn’t have to worry about losing you prematurely and you’d be able to understand the issues he’s faced throughout their long life — whilst also having all the time in the world to grow with him and together as a couple. so they would be hopeful to have a spouse with this trait.
Darius Deamonne
this wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for darius but he would have a serious, long conversation about where you both stand and how your experiences would impact your relationship. he wouldn’t necessarily ask about your past relationships but he would be curious about older ages of magic on the isles and how other realms function — and especially how that can help the rebellion against belos.
Eberwolf
they’re pretty chill about the whole thing, honestly — like it rarely ever comes up in conversation so there’s no real impact on your relationship. you two just continue vibing together and spending the time you have wisely (by having fun) without the stresses such a realisation often bring. really they’re the best person you could have told — they only bring it up once or maybe twice and it’s only to make fun of you (lovingly, of course).
Eda Clawthorne
your immortality means that you have more knowledge of the world before belos and, thus, wild magic and magic as a whole. this means that eda will be looking to you to learn more about the owl beast, the history of those like her and if you ever came to know others with similar curses. she’d also insist on you teaching her about the people you loved and she’ll happily talk about raine (she’s far from the jealous type, but she is something of a gossip). she doesn’t care about making scrapbooks or taking pictures and prefers living in the moment with you and your family — living in the ‘doing’ world rather than focusing on capturing every little thing. you’ll look back on this with king and fleetingly wish you had more pictures, but the memory of her laugh and smile is tangible enough that neither of you feel like you’re missing out on too much.
Edric Blight
he will probably have something of an existential crisis about his own mortality when you tell him and would insist on finding a way to make himself live as long as you do. he starts comparing himself to the people you loved and lost and you’ll end up having to talk him into getting some help for it. your relationship will be permanently changed by this, but you will grow and heal with time — it’s just such a shock for him that he takes a bit of a mental health wobble whilst he comes to terms with it.
Emira Blight
em tends to bottle up her feelings a lot and will initially come off as very accepting and calm about the whole thing — but make no mistake this poor woman is one mislabelled jar of seasoning away from a breakdown. she’s now very aware of her own mortality and that she’s one of the probably dozens you’ve loved and lost and she’s absolutely terrified of being forgotten and lost to the sands of time. she’ll insist on keeping thorough, reliable records of your time together and by the time she’s old and you’re young you’ll be spending your last days together looking over them and laughing and crying and holding each other — finally ready to say goodbye.
Gus Porter
he will bombard you with questions about your life nonstop. did you ever live in the human realm? how has it changed? how has the boiling isles changed? there’s so much he wants to know and he has all the time in the world to listen to you talk — and he will note down everything you say and look at you with complete interest. so yeah he’ll still love you just as much as before, he’s just very nosy and eager to learn.
Hunter Wittebane
hunter is someone that would likely have a few hang-ups regarding true- and pseudo- immortality given his status as a clone/grimwalker. he’d have to do a lot of thinking regarding your relationship once he found out and a lot of serious conversations would be had about his natural lifespan compared to yours. in the end you would stay together and he’d be with you for a significant period of it (a few hundred years given him being similar to palismen) with him insisting that you don’t bring him back once he’s gone.
Lilith Clawthorne
she’d be absolutely entranced by your condition and would start fangirling over everything you must have experienced. you’ll end up getting interviewed and documented in every way possible as she asks about your history in and beyond the isles. though she might spend a bit more time on the deadwardian period than anything else (she’s biased, okay!).
Luz Noceda
luz would be amazed with you and would be eager to learn your story — as well as just about everything about you. she wants to learn your native language and hear about the cultures and people you knew throughout the years, especially if it involves some form of magic. she does, however, insist on making lots of memories with you and recording them so you never forget her.
Mattholomule
another one that doesn’t believe you but in mattholomule’s case he never ends up believing you. in his mind you’re just making a weird joke and there comes a point where you just stop trying to correct him and just live your life out with him — watching him grow old and grey whilst you remain the same. it’s on his death bed when he finally realises, but the life you shared was full of laughter and love so neither of you find it in yourselves to complain.
Odalia Blight
she is the type to use your status to her advantage which means that your relationship dynamic would inevitably shift. like she’d still care about you and be as affectionate as before, but she insists on showing you off and presenting herself as the wife of an immortal being in order to put herself above her fellow witches. you can tell her to knock it off. it will not work.
Raine Whispers
raine is heartbroken for you when they realise just how much you’ve lost throughout your life and they insist on memorialising your lost loved ones however they can. they help you write ballads for deceased lovers and learn to play songs from your home (even if their pronunciation is very shaky) because they care so deeply about you. they don’t talk about their concerns often, but they do ask that you remember them — and they leave you plenty of songs behind to do so.
Steve
as he’s quite possibly the most chilled out person in the boiling isles, steve doesn’t really care about the fact that you’re immortal. like when you tell him he’ll ask you a few questions about yourself and your past, but otherwise your relationship will stay the same and he’ll keep on keeping on. might expect the occasional cool story from your past, though, when you’ve both been drinking some apple blood.
Terra Snapdragon
she will most likely treat this as an opportunity to gain more power through your relationship. like she does care for you as you are her spouse at the end of the day, but she’s also incredibly power-hungry and having a partner who is immortal and has more experience than basically every other living entity is the ideal opportunity for her to get what she wants. so she definitely wouldn’t leave you, but the dynamic between the two of you would definitely change.
Viney
this wouldn’t be the end of your relationship but it would change a lot. viney insists on the two of you continuing to live in the moment together, focusing on making lasting memories doing things that you both love so that you never forget her. that means frequent fun dates, time spent teaching as a team, helping everyone you can and just spending time together doing what you love and having as much fun as you can whilst doing so.
Willow Park
willow is shocked by the revelation of your immortality but she doesn’t make too much of a big deal of it. like she will sit down with you and discuss anything you want to talk about, but generally your relationship remains unchanged. the only change is that she starts writing letters for you and hiding them — wanting to leave something behind for you once she’s gone.

When Belos makes you forget who they are, mini one shots:
Came from a post I made a while ago, how I think the coven heads can't date cause it'll distract them.
Characters included: Raine, Darius, Adrian
Raine:
Tumblr media
Raine waited by the airship loading bay. You were supposed to be returning from a mission, but so far, there was no news. They sat and watched scouts run around, orders being thrown about all over the place. They were early, but they wanted to surprise you and congratulate you, even if it went badly.
Soon, the hours rolled by, and they began to worry, playing their violin, to calm themselves, and to think what could be going on. Until a scout captain tapped their shoulder, pulling them out of their trance.
“Head witch. Emperor Belos wants to see you.”
“What for?”
"He didn't say. Please follow me."
They stood, not before taking one final glance at the loading bay, seeing it empty out, before leaving and heading towards the throne room.
The doors opened, Raine was barely able to see each foot in front of the other, let alone Belos sat, hunched, fingers digging into the arm rests, on his throne at the other end of the room.
As they got closer, doors slamming behind them, making them jump, they saw you. Laying on the floor, wheezing for breath and yellow glowing veins littered your body. Raine sped over, dropping to their knees beside you, holding you close, shaking you.
"(Y/N)? Are you okay?"
“Ah Raine. There you are.”
“What did you do to them?”
Belos rose from his throne, and got closer. Raine, held you tightly, glaring with hurt at you, not letting you fall from their grip, refusing to look Belos's way.
“Just a simple spell. Erasing you from their memories.”
He grabbed Raine’s face, forcing them to look at him. They dropped you in the process, but when they tried to reach for you, Belos threw Raine back.
“They were a distraction. I allowed it at first cause they motivated you, but now they're nothing more than a cheap distraction. I had to take action, otherwise you’d fall behind, and I can't have that.”
Belos stood tall, towering over Raine, as they crawled back slightly.
“I do hope you understand.”
Raine was suddenly halted, as a red aura glowed around them and was flung back, taking them out of the room, watching your form get smaller and smaller the faster they were dragged down the hall until the doors closed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You awoke in your quarters, body aching. You tried to stretch, but winced in pain when you tried to raise your arms. You rubbed your wrist, looking ver at your desk to find a note, and curiously hobbled over to it.
The note was from Emperor Belos, congratulating you on your most recent mission, and that the Scout Captain had to take you too to your room due to your hard work. It made you feel proud, knowing that all the hard work was beginning to pay off, that even the Emperor recognised it.
You would've jumped up in joy, but you felt too exhausted. Your body felt like it had ran all across the body of the Titan. Slowly, you grabbed your clothes and got dressed, as the note also said there was a coven head meeting today.
It was more like an observation along with a few other scouts proficient in a type of magic that’ll be useful for future missions. Yours was bard, you had seen the coven head a few times, they were fairly new, possibly been working for six months or so, but you had yet to speak to them properly, rather than through letters or indirect messages through scouts. You hoped you'd be able to speak to them today.
But your hope went away the minute the meeting was over. You knew the head witch didn't like people, but they didn't even look in your general direction when you greeted them or when they left. Even the other coven heads flashed you a glance of sympathy, or pity, you could never really tell.
You decided to follow them, needing to discuss notes and plans for an upcoming mission, but they disappeared without a trace, leaving you standing there in the corridor beyond confused. They only just left, so they couldn't have gotten far, so you trekked down the corridor, asking scouts if they had seen the head witch, with only having no every time.
You huffed in annoyance until a creak caught your attention. Behind a painting, was a dark narrow stairway. Somewhere in the back of your mind told you you'd been here before, it felt so familiar, so you followed the steps up, as you got closer, you could hear the sounds of a soft melody from a violin.
It sounded beautiful, peaceful almost, if not for the sad tonal shift every so often. When you opened the door, there sat the head witch, sitting on the balcony.
You knew better than to disturb them, but you summoned a flute, and played along, not knowing where the urge to play came from, let alone the song.
They turned upon hearing your instrument and gazed at you with shock and surprise, before smiling softly and continued playing alongside you.
"It's a lovely song. Did you write it yourself?" You asked after a while of silence when the music stopped, sitting beside them, staring at the skull of the titan.
"I did. It was for someone special to me."
"I'm sorry. I didn't know." Immediately feeling regret, you stood, wanting to leave. They grabbed you hand softly, pulling you back.
"Don't be, it was nice to play it with someone after so long." They turned to face you, the tips of their ears burning a light red.
"How did you know what to play?"
"I'm not sure. I just felt like I heard it before and was drawn to it." You scratched your head, unsure yourself of your own answer, but the head witch laughed.
"Music does make you feel that way. You're very talented."
"Oh please, no where near as talented as you head witch."
"Please, call me Raine."
Darius:
Tumblr media
Darius sat, quietly waiting. You had been summoned to the throne room, but you didn't say what for, only that Belos wanted to speak with you. He tried to convince you to send an illusion, if anything should happen, but you held his hand told him not to worry, that you'd be fine.
But that was an hour ago, Darius knew Belos well enough that something would've happened, using your own mind against you. So when the doors finally opened, he leapt up. You walked out, scratching the back of your head, and Darius saw red, assuming the worst and bolted to you.
"(Y/N), are you alright?" He asked, holding your face gently, but you jumped back in surprise.
"Head witch?"
"Its alright, you don't need to pretend anymore."
"I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean." You took his hands off your face gently, placing them at is side, only having a confused look plastered across your face.
"What?" He looked at you in disbelief, you weren't a good actor, better than Adrian, but not by much, so the look and your tone was very real.
"Excuse me." You brushed past him, walking away and disappearing down the corridor. Darius clenched his fists, and stormed into the throne room, causing the doors to slam, Belos sighed at the scene.
"What did you do to them?" Darius yelled, abomination goo beginning to float around him.
"Calm down head witch, you'll only hurt yourself." Belos said all to calmly.
"I did what must've been done. You knew the rules, yet here you are breaking them. I knew you were rebellious, but I thought your time as head witch would've shut that out." Belos stood from his throne, walking towards Darius.
"May I remind you of what happens to witches who rebel?"
Belos summoned his staff, a red aura surrounded it, and images of petrified witches flooded Darius's mind, making him wince and grip his head in pain.
"I'll allow a mess up like this once, but no more."
Belos walked out of the room, leaving Darius standing there. Belos had wiped your memory of him, or most of them. He knew someone he could go to, but the idea of talking to him on a personal level made him nauseous.
"You want me to send you to their mindscape so you can repair their memories?" Adrian stood in the doorway of his office, barley awake.
"Trust me, you're the last person I want to go to but-"
"But I'm the only one who can do mind magic." He stated smugly.
"Vitimir can make a potion, but it'll take too long."
"Hmm." Adrian pondered, placing a finger on his chin.
"Sorry, no can do."
"What why?" Darius stepped forward, but Adrian placed a finger on his shoulder, stopping him.
"Mind magic is complicated. For all we know I could make things worse. Besides, you don't want to be seen as a traitor, do you? I know what your plan is, I could very easily report it." His tail swayed in anticipation, and Darius stood there dumbfounded, he hadn't thought that far ahead.
"Sorry old friend." Adrian shut the door in his face and he sighed rubbing his hand down his face.
"Adrian always make other peoples days so much worse." Your soft voice broke him form his thoughts and he rapidly turned to face you.
"That's why I try not to talk to him." You laughed a little, but gasped when the stack of paper nearly slipped from your grip.
"Usually I don't, but unfortunately I needed to." Darius took some of the papers from you, easing the load.
"Anything I could help with?"
"You look like you've got enough in your hands, but either way, sadly not." He looked at the ground, and began to walk away, but looked back at you.
"Well come on."
"Oh, you don't need to do that head witch, you've got far more important duties than mine." You said catching up, about to take your work from him when he handed it to an abomination.
"Trust me, if I had work to be doing right now I would be." He walked off, head held high, clutching his cape. The abomination held out a hand, wanting your papers, so you reluctantly gave them to it and followed after him.
You both sat down in a work booth, Darius presenting you your favourite drink, which you sipped happily away at. Somewhere deep inside of you wondered how he knew, and why he had a small smile on his face when you exclaimed your excitement the drink, but the quicker the thought came, it went, a red glow coming from your sigil, suddenly confused what you were curious at.
Adrian:
Tumblr media
Adrian rushed to the healing wing, shoving whoever was in his way to the floor. Panic rose in him, struggling for breath as he slammed the door open.
"Where are they?"
Hettie walked over, hands raised, trying to stop Adrian from storming over.
"They're here, but you need to stay back. We don't know what condition they're in right now."
"I don't care. I need to see them. They need to know I'm here."
He tried pushing himself off Hettie, but her grip was too strong. He soon gave up, breathing jagged as she got one of the nurses to fetch him a chair.
Hours passed by without hearing of anything, he crunched the note he had received in his hand. A note from Belos, stating that he would've been in big trouble, but has decided a punishment fitting for him, with the necklace he gifted you attached to it. Adrian wrapped the necklace around his hand, and brought it up to his mouth, trying to calm himself down.
Some of the other coven heads stopped by to see how he was doing, and if there was any news, most of the time, it was Darius. He didn't like Adrian at the best of times, but still felt somewhat sorry for him. They knew of Adrian's secret relationship with you, and all agreed to keep it secret, since Adrian had actually begun to work hard and wasn't as much of a pain in their side as usual.
They asked him what had happened, as all they heard was that you were in an accident on a mission but he told them he didn't know either, sounding defeated.
Adrian's foot bounced up and down against the floor at rapid speed, until Hettie opened the door, giving him a saddened look.
"How are they? Can I see them?"
He jumped off his chair, tail flicking around nervously, but Hettie only came closer and rested a hand on his shoulder.
"They're fine, but there's a small complication."
"What do you mean?"
"She doesn't remember anything recently."
"So what? Not remembering missions isn't that bad." Adrian said, sounding unsure when he mentioned a mission.
"Adrian. They don't remember your time together."
Adrian's face fell. Surely she was joking? Her face will break with a crack at the lips, and she'll howl with laughter. But she never did.
"We asked them the last thing they remembered, and they said it was a coven meeting to introduce us to the new golden guard yesterday. "
"It was two years ago." Adrian barely whispered, taking Hettie's hand off his shoulder, staring down at the floor.
"You can still see them, but just be prepared. It's going to be hard, for both of you."
"Why don't they remember?" Adrian's eyes widened, knowing it had something to do with Belos, but he couldn't figure out what, it was all to much for him to think about.
"We don't know yet."
"Well, don't just stand there it's your job. Just figure it out."
When he pulled back the curtain gently, he saw you, smiling and talking with some of the nurses. A small grin tugged at his lips. You were always kind and chatting with others.
Hearing the curtain being pulled back, you turned to face the head witch, confused, but welcomed his presence.
"Good morning, head witch. Dont tell me you've got the common mould too?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hettie and Adrian sat down with you and gently that you weren’t here for mould medicine.
You told them you were just in a meeting and were told you fainted, but when Hettie continued to explain that happened tow years ago, you became frightened. You didn't know what they were talking about, or why the illusion coven head was here.
Seeing the panicked look on your face, Adrian told her to stop, and its best you got some rest. So he left you that evening, telling you he'd back tomorrow, but when you questioned why, he couldn't answer.
As Adrian walked back to his quarters, Belos passed by down the corridor, making him stop in his tracks.
"This is what happens when you can't follow orders Graye. Disobey me again, and I'll make sure their fate is set in stone."
He slunk down the corridor. He failed a mission, and you were being punished, Belos just barely allowed you two together when he saw a difference in his work, but warned that if he failed, he would be punished. Adrian didn't sleep that night, every time he closed his eyes, nightmares filled his head.
The next morning, Adrian came to your hospital room, looking slightly more dishevelled than he usually does. You asked if he was alright, but shut it down, telling you he was fine. Over the course of the day, he filled you in on everything, at first you didn't believe him, but seeing the way he acted and the way he talked about old memories, convinced you, so that evening he took you home, to get you back into some form of normality.
Adrian summoned the construction head witch to create an extra bedroom and shower for you, so to not make you uncomfortable, but to hopefully trigger some memories or at least t get you used to your old life again. You looked around Adrian's room, the colour blue splashed everywhere. But you saw photos, missions, or even nights out of you two together. You held them in your hand, but you just didn't feel anything or a sense of remembrance.
Soon, months flew by, Adrian, still determined, you became close again, like friends, but he started to worry if this was what you wanted. He asked you one night if you still wanted to live with him, have time figure things out for yourself, feeling like he was keeping you prisoner here. But you chose to stay, telling him that although it's been small things that came back to you, you knew there's something about him that made you want to stay.
He accepted your response but always held that offer out to you, which you understood.
You said good night to each other, and closed your door, leaving him standing in his living room, hands in his pockets. He sighed and turned to play some music and tapped his foot along to the beat. It was your favourite song. He played it from time to time when you were asleep.
"I feel like I've heard this before."
Your voice pulled him from his trance, and he turned to you, slowly walking closer, fiddling with your hands.
"It was your favourite. It's a nice song, isn't it?"
"It's beautiful."
"We used to dance to this all the time" He rest a hand on top of the speaker, as you stood next to him.
"We can if you like? Dance to it I mean."
He stared at you, but nodded. You took his hands and gently swayed, you leant your head into his shoulder and took the lead, much to his surprise. He wrapped his tail around your waist as you moved, with him following your movement.
It was enough to give him something to hold onto.

Belos: Out of all the wild witches on the Isles, you're the only one I haven't thought about killing today.
Witch Y/N: Thanks. Sometimes my eyes don't bleed when I look at you.
Darius, whispering: Are they flirting or insulting each other?
Adrian, whispering: Yes.

Note
Hi! If it’s ok, can I get some Adrian Graye x Reader who has nonverbal episodes headcannons? Thank you :D
Adrain can talk enough for the both of you. He could go on for hours honestly.
Despite what people think about him and how he got this job, as an illusionist he is very observant and not just self absorbed. While he can get caught up in himself and his vanity he still loves and adores you. He loves to rant at you, but also with you. You are one of the very rare people he actually listens too.
To be honest it really distresses him the first time it happens in your relationship because he thinks he's the reason you're not speaking and that he did something wrong. He begins projecting and it can get intense as he has no idea what he did, or what he can do to fix it which causes him to become overbearing.
Once he realizes it's an episode and not you giving him the silent treatment he calms down pretty quickly. He knows about your anxiety and realizes this may just be apart of that. So like any good illusionist, Adrain adapts.
Open communication is very important to Adrain as he's an empath and needs to know what you're feeling even if you're not speaking. When he speaks to you after he watches your reactions closely. Sometimes he stares waiting for confirmation or rejection of an idea, sometimes he just glances at you gauging your reaction. Communication can be both verbal and non verbal. It's his job to notice the little things so you don't need to speak to communicate.
He's very understanding of your episodes and while he loves your voice, he also loves that you're comfortable enough to talk to him in your own way even if you're not speaking.
You two create your own language through body actions and touch. Every sigh, every fidget, every shift of your hands becomes a language that only he can decipher. He finds this very intimate and enjoys that even if you're not speaking you're still communicating.

Wandering gaze
SUMMERY: Adrian has always been a bit salty but it feels like with you he intentionally tries not to say anything nice. You finally confront him.
WARNINGS: fluff, reader is plant coven head because Terra got fired (I hate her sm.), afab+Enby reader, trans Adrian!!
A/N: I hate how this came out help 😿
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“And now, y/n l/n as the next head of the plant coven!”
You swiftly removed your hood, staring into the camera with the same bright smile you had as the moment you received the news.
“Thank you so much for this opportunity! Im thrilled to be working with such high powered witches, it’s truly an honor.”
You sighed, your smile softening as the camera turned off and you turned to look at all your fellow coven heads. Most started to file out but a few remained, including the heads of the bard and abomination covens and the head of the Illusionist coven as well. You made your way over to the illusionist as the other two were indulged in their own conversation.
“It’s a pleasure to be working with you Mr…?” You trailed off, hoping for him to complete the sentence as you hadn’t been informed of his name. He looked you up and down before rolling his eyes and setting his hands at his hips.
“Graye. It’s Adrian Graye Vernworth.” Before you could respond he had already started walking away. With a confused expression you stepped over to the other two coven heads who were finishing up their conversation. The one with glasses and mint hair smiled and reached out their hand to greet you.
“Glad to have you on the team! Im Raine, and this is Darius” After introducing yourself the three of you made small talk, eventually these two would grow to become your best friends.
Tumblr media
A few months had passed and over the time Adrian continued to be sour towards you. He distanced himself, ignoring you. It angered you. Infuriated you. Everyone else was kind and open with you while he was somewhat hostile.
You had enough. The Emperor had to leave, causing the meeting to be cut short. Everyone was gone and just as Adrian was leaving you gently grasped his arm. “Wait!”
He looked at you, his face twisting in confusion. You let go of his arm as he turned around to look at you. His foot tapped against the ground, trying to get out of the too small room as fast as possible.
“What do you want.”
“Why do you hate me.” You bluntly let out the truth. You noticed as his eyes widened slightly and his mouth clicked shut.
“Excuse me?” He said, a nervous smile painting his face as he let out soft giggle of anxiousness.
You repeated the question. “Why do you hate me.”
His smile dropped and he stood there, the gears in his head churning as he figures out the right words to say.
“I don’t hate you.”
“Then why are you always avoiding me? Why do you go out of your way to cut our conversations short?”
He put a hand to your shoulder and smiled as a soft pink dusted his cheeks.
“Because you dazzle me. You make me so nervous I get scared I’ll mess up and a make a fool of myself.”
You stood there, stunned. He quickly covered his mouth with one of his hands and paced away. You stood there for a good few minutes with your thoughts before leaving. So he doesn’t hate you. He thinks you’re amazing. You sat in your room, thinking about what he said.
“Dazzle.”
“I Dazzle him.”
You laid down, looking out the window at the extensive pit of spikes. You thought about him. His face. The way his tail starts to swing back and forth when he gets excited or happy. How he always has a bit of fur on the back of his neck. The cute little pride flags he keeps in his office. Everything about him.
“I think he dazzles me too.”

You'd started your day worried about Luz, who had suddenly gone off the radar and most likely into hiding.
By lunch, you had learned why.
Everything happened so quickly you hadn't had a chance to properly process it all. The Emperor's Coven had attempted to trick the students at Hexside into giving them brands, something that was thankfully thwarted by Gus. You'd spent the rest of the afternoon pushing back against the Illusion Coven Head, Adrian Graye Vernworth.
Thanks to the help of the former Golden Guard, Hunter.
The same boy who had previously attempted to force you to join a Coven against your will not that long ago.
It had quickly become obvious to you that his defection and Luz's disappearance were connected, even before he started dumping all the information he knew about what to expect in the near future. You could sense he wasn't telling the entire story, but you figured anything he hadn't mentioned wasn't necessary and you chose to let the matter go.
That's how you currently found yourself walking into the Paranormatorium with a fresh set of clothes.
He had clearly been in hiding for some time himself, and he desperately needed to clean himself up, but you didn't think having him change into his current grungy outfit would do him much good.
After all the help he'd provided today, it was the least you could do.
He was off in one of the wings when you stepped inside, busying himself with tidying up where you assume he'd been hiding. His back was to you and he didn't make any move indicating he knew you were there.
"Hunter?"
The way he jumped nearly a foot in the air told you your assumption was correct.
He whipped around to look at you, eyes as big as dinner plates as he hurriedly kicked something out of view, ignoring the sound of crinkling bags and clinking cans that followed.
"Am I interrupting?" You asked.
"N-No! Of course not."
His fists were clenched tightly at his sides and he stood as stiff as a rod, but sure, you definitely felt welcome.
You tried to ignore his terrified body language as you climbed onto the stage, holding up the clothes to show him.
"I figured you'd want something clean to change into, so I brought you these..."
He didn't answer you right away, so you thought maybe he didn't hear you, but when you opened your mouth to repeat yourself, he beat you to the punch.
"You didn't have to do that."
Quite the punch, indeed.
You hid your wince as you held them out to him, watching him hesitate before reaching out to take them from you, the tips of his gloved fingers brushing against yours for a brief moment.
"I wanted to."
He looked at the garments in his hands, studying them in silence for a moment. With his eyes off you, you somehow felt more exposed than when he was looking at you.
The awkwardness was palpable, and you weren't sure how to cut through it.
You took a step back when he continued not to say anything.
"Why?"
You stopped, surprised at how quiet the question was.
"Why what?"
His grip on the clothes tightened slightly.
"Why would you be this nice to me after the way I treated you?"
You frowned. "Do you mean after the flyer derby game?"
He didn't have to look at you for you to know that was it.
You tilted your head, slowly stepping closer as to not scare him. You felt like you were in the presence of a frightened animal and anything could send him running.
"You still feel guilty about that?" You asked him.
"Of course I do. I was no different than Graye back then, the only difference was I had you locked in a cage first. And I never even apologized for it."
You heard some fluttering before his Palisman flitted over to rest on his shoulder, and if you didn't know any better, it gave you a look as ashamed as Hunter probably felt.
It was easy to see that he had been put through many wringers lately, a few of them probably self-inflicted.
"Well... No. You didn't apologize." You moved a bit closer. "You only found the airship we were on, distracted that Coven Head long enough to let us escape, and stopped him from taking us in when he caught up to us."
His eyes darted to your hand that was now reaching for his arm, his body tensing and making you stop. He stared, but he didn't move away from you, even when your fingers gently made contact with the skin of his bare arm.
"You did do something similar to what Graye did today. But you also tried to make things right, which is more than we can say for him. And it tells me everything I need to know about you."
He was looking at your face now, looking unsure.
"You don't need to apologize to me, Hunter. I forgave you a long time ago."
His muscles slowly unclenched and he swallowed, nodding as his cheeks and the tips of his ears turned a bit pink.
"But..."
He blinked, looking almost scared again.
You bit your lip before continuing.
"It was very sweet of you to worry about it."
You held your breath as you leaned in, gently pressing your lips to his cheek, careful not to bump against his Palisman. You stayed for only a moment before pulling away, seeing the stunned look on his face.
"I'll leave you alone so you can finish cleaning up."
You stepped away, heading off the stage and looking over your shoulder at him.
"Thanks for coming to our rescue again, Hunter."
You headed for the door, smiling to yourself when you heard excited chirping behind you.

The Owl House characters with a s/o that has a curse head canons:
Characters included: Belos, Darius, Adrain, Eda, Raine, Alador
Belos:
Tumblr media
He'd be the least understanding at first
Considering he has his own 'curse' (which is what he tells you) to deal with, he probably won't pay too much attention to it and too focused on his own.
He'll ban you from missions outside the castle. He doesn't want a cursed soldier embarrassing the coven and drawing attention to it, so he makes you do things inside the castle, he keeps telling you its for your own good and to keep you safe.
He'll mostly get Hettie and the healing coven to watch out for you, telling you he's too busy for you, which may make your curse flair up or even feeling a little neglected, but you try to understand it from his point of view, he is the Emperor after all.
But there's also the over side to it, where he may make it his mission to try and cure you, to try and save you from wild magic infecting your body.
He'll send scouts to the night market, looking for anything, clues, potions, items that may be able to help cure it, or at the very least make it more manageable.
If your curse begins to flair up, he'll keep you confined somewhere until it goes down again. He may visit from time to time to see how you're doing. But if you want him to stay, you may have to keep asking him
He won't do activities willingly, and he won't be prepared for them, so you may have to wait a while to do anything and sit in silence.
If he finds you asleep, he'll place his coat over you and smiles softly if he sees you snuggling into it
Darius:
Tumblr media
He'd be hyper focused, always making sure you're okay. He might come across as a little overbearing, but it's with good intention.
But as soon as you tell him this, he'll respect it completely and will ask you how much he needs to back off. He wants you to feel safe and comfortable.
He'll worry about you going on mission, but he knows you can handle it, but may need a tad of convincing from you, just to make sure you're 100% okay with it.
Takes a list of everything that stresses you out or upsets you and tries his best not to do those things, and if he does, he'll immediately apologize and ask of you're okay, communicating is key
Has days worth of activities ready for you if you need them, and if there's something he doesn't have, he'll have it with in hours, sending scouts, or an abomination to get it.
He doesn't trust vitimir to make you your elixirs if you need them, so he'll go to some he can trust, so he'll probably ask you where you get them so he can have some stocked up in his quarters whenever you stay over.
If you're having a rough time with your curse, he'll run you a bath and will get you your favourite snacks, hoping it may cheer you up
If that doesn't work, he'll gossip with you about whatever appears on his penstagram feed to take your mind off things, which will mostly be Alador, for a guy that doesn't want anything to do with him he sure likes seeing him on his feed and gossiping about him.
He may even give you his cape to snuggle into or sleep with. But definitely has an abomination to watch over you when he can't if you're asleep.
He'll definitely research curses and may even ask Eberwolf for some assistance if it's a beast/insect type of curse. He wants to understand the creature you turn into, so if you do ever fully transform, he'll know how to handle it.
Adrian:
Tumblr media
Like Darius, he'll be overbearing, but he's on the more dramatic side, and probably won't listen to you until he sees you in full curse mode, once that happens he never wants you to be in pain like that again, and takes precaution, but probably too many.
He'll literally keep everyone at more than an arms length if you're walking through the castle, so no one gets too close to scare you or stress you out.
If you try to explain to him that you don't need it, he'll completely disregard it, telling you he's keeping you safe and sound, but once he sees your curse flaring up at times because of that, he may back off, but only slightly.
He'll dread you going on missions without him. It's not that he thinks you're incapable or incompetent. He just worries your curse may flair up, and you'll panic without him.
If he sees a little bit of your curse showing, he'll take you back to his quarters where he'll help you de-stress, but hes definitely unprepared, and sits you down as he runs around, trying to find elixirs and anything else to help you, which may unintentionally make you more stressed.
If you have elixirs, he'll make sure you drink as many as you need, he'll order some scouts out to get more for you, so you're stocked up and can take some with you around the castle.
Whatever you do to de-stress, he'll do with you, the time he's having as coven he needs to de-stress too, whether that's breathing exercises, hugs, sleeping, or anything else you want to do.
If you're having a particularly rough time, he'll stay by your side and do his best to comfort you, which just comes out as vague noises.
He'll put the lights on dim, so not to strain your eyes or to give you a headache, and he'll recite a script or his notes for a mission to you, getting your opinion on it, to take your mind off things.
Might put a show on with his illusions, knowing how much you love them
Eda:
Tumblr media
She'll be the MOST understanding person in this list.
With her own curse, she'll know the do's and don'ts, but she'll 100% understand that each curse is different, but with the similarities you both may share, she'll give you a helping hand, asking you what you need and want, and general advice, especially if you're new to it.
She has elixirs fully stocked and labelled, hidden all around the house for easy access.
Has your favourite pillow in her nest, so you have something comfy to sleep with, but she also keeps one in a cupboard with some of your elixirs and anything else you may need, so you can rest on the sofa, should you need to.
Constant reassurance, telling you you're not bothering anyone, you're not stopping their day or anything, all her focus will be on you.
She'll get you your favourite foods and may do some baking with you, which may or may not end in a mini explosion.
May even get some surprises for you at the night market or something you've particularly been after to cheer you up.
She wants you to take it easy, but knows you're more than capable of doing things for yourself and to go out day to day, so she won't stop you, and instead may join you.
If there's a time where you can't make it with eda, King and luz, she'll write you some notes and leaves whatever you need out, along with a scarf she knitted you in your favourite colour
Raine:
Tumblr media
Raine will probably try to read as much as possible on curses to try and understand it better and how to approach the topic with you to then compare your own thoughts and feelings on the matter
Once they a somewhat developed understanding, they'll do whatever you need them to, no questions asked
They'll play you soft music to help you sleep or calm you down if you've had a particularly hard day
They'll take you around the castle and to your favourite places to make you laugh or smile
In their room, raine is fully prepared. They have every activity under the sun to keep you entertained or calm in various cupboards
But if you need space, raine might panic a bit, thinking you're pushing them away, but if you explain saying you just need a few hours of nothing, then they'll be okay
If they see your curse flairing you, they'll hug you if you want the contact, stroking your hair and complimenting you, anything to help it go down.
if you dont want a hug, then raine will just sit with you and talk it out, trying to get whatever upsetting you off your chest
Raine may consult Eda on advice if things start to lose their effect, but they won't do this without your permission
Raine will mix some of your elixirs in your favourite drink, especially if it's a bitter elixir, knowing you've always hated the taste. They wanted to try and help with the flavour
Made you a special whistle that only they can hear if anything happens, so they know where you are and how to help you, with each whistle hole signalling different levels of urgency
Alador:
Tumblr media
He'd be way more curious at first, wanting to see and understand the different reactions you have, or maybe even what your cursed form looks like, which you may have to pull the plug on.
After that he may put your needs aside on accident if something does happen, cause he really wants to study it so he can try and help in a more scientific way, until you talk to him about it.
But once he notices, he'll apologise and try his best to help when he can, but he'll still be distracted at times, but you know he doesn't mean to
If he's super busy, he'll get an abomatron to watch over you and to alert him immediately should anything flair up, no matter how small
He may even try to make a cure himself, mixing abomination and potions, but once you see it move with a face, you decline, under the impression you can handle it, which he takes at face value and understands
Since Em knows healing magic, he may get her help at times, but she always checks with you if its okay. And with Ed knowing beastkeeping magic, he may also assist if things get out of hand.
He'll visit you often, bringing you gifts, or food he tried to make, just so he can catch up, talk about your days and making sure you're okay
Whatever you need, he'll try his best, since he's no longer making abomatrons for the emperors coven anymore, he has a lot more free time, but he does spend it with his kids, which you don't want to take time away from, knowing the lifestyle he had previously
But when he does make time for you, he'll probably take naps with cuddles, just because he's so tired, but you join him, knowing that sleep can sometimes help keep you rested, making it easier to fight against it.

How about a request for Adrian being in love with a coven scout, that’s soon to be his S/O? Like how would he act before he realizes he actually likes the person and such, and how he’d react to finally seeing their face!
It's been a while since I last wrote about Adrian, but I'm so happy to do some more stuff about him.
But I hope this is something like you wanted. I kinda went more for the first time he meets you to him realising he likes you. I've done it as a story headcanon, but I can write it as regular headcanons too :)
Also cause its Adrian, I had to include a little drama of misreading people, and it's kinda long. Sorry.
Tumblr media
Adrian with a scout s/o story headcanons
When he first meets you:
He'd first meet you on a mission, nothing out of the ordinary, so he wouldn't be paying too much attention to his team, that is, until he hears whispering
He closes his eyes and pretends to sleep in his chair (my personal headcanon for this is that he has really good hearing like a cat) and listens to what people are saying
They're talking about a scout who's sitting at the back of the ship retreading adrians notes and writing their own down, and as soon as Adrian hears this, he's furious, taking it as an insult to his outstanding work
So he calls you into an office like room on the air ship (like the commanders chamber on the boat in the sea episode) and you enter, confused holding your note book, which he takes from your hands and looks down at the work, questioning why you're altering his work
So when you admit you weren't altering it, just understand more what he wants and make sure you know the plan. He's speechless for the first time. He can't help but stare down or up at you, but he quickly shuts the note book and slamming it into your chest, telling you you shouldn't need extra notes and to figure out his notes within his notes and sends you on your way
The remainder of the trip, he keeps a close eye on you. He's never had a scout go out of their way to understand his plan, he can't help but be confused or if he should be happy that someones taking his work seriously or ashamed that someone had to go out of their way to understand it, which is a thought he's never had and tries to shut it out
But it only gets worse when he arrives at the wrist. He's on a mission to find the galderstones, and everything quickly gets into formstion, but the wrong formation. But before he can even begin to belittle them, your voice quietly catches everyone's attention, explaining the formation as something different and understanding adrians little mannerisms like pow, mhm ect
The second you explain it, everyone's on board with the plan, and they take off, Adrian slowly follows behind, ears flushed red. No one's ever understood him before, let alone explain his mind so perfectly to other scouts, despite it being the first time he's worked with you
But despite not finding the galderstones, the mission was undoubtedly a success in his mind, his crew were efficient, and as the airship sailed back, he can't help his eyes wondering over to you every now and then, a small smile twitching from his lips, he's intrigued and decides to keep a close eye on you
From then, he always requests you for his missions, which the crew were extremely grateful for, not wanting to put up with a sarcastic Adrian whenever they got something wrong
When he begins to think more of you
But as the weeks went by, Adrian couldn't help but wonder if his rude mannour might put you off, he doesn't know what brings the thought to him, that maybe it'll stop you working with him, which is what he keeps telling himself, and tried to stop being rude and condescending at least in your presence
The first time he has a thought like that, he takes a mental step back, wondering why on titan he is so worried about you and your thoughts, and he just rolls his eyes to himself
But no matter what, he can't seem to shake you, he keeps seeing you around the castle, which is a given because he's bound to see you around, but the more he does, the more he slowly realises things about you
Like your mask having a dent on the nose, the way you walk, it's quiet yet purposeful, he doesn't speak to you outside of missions, so he thought that maybe he'd try, he feels drawn to you and wants to know what you're about
At first he doesn't go out of his way to find you, but promised himself if he sees you to have a quick chat, and he does, every so often in the week you pass him and share small pleasantries, not realising his drive to see you was increasing along with his nerves
The things he does
After sharing small conversations, he finds himself taking routes in the castle he knows you'll be walking down, just so he has the chance to greet you
He may try to surprise you by a fact on a topic you mentioned last time, taking the time to either brag or boast about the topic, but when he sees you tense up a little bit, but tells himself not to do that, or at the very least brag an actual achievement, he wants to show himself off to you, but finds it encouraging to know you don't need that to talk to him
He can not control his tail for the life of him, he doesn't know whats going on with it, and tells you not to worry about it when you give him a confused head tilt when he's holding it in his hands, he doesn't know why he's suddenly so nervous around you
He'll try to make you laugh by pranking other people with his illusions, figuring out what makes you smile and giggle, and when he hears you laugh for the first time his heart stops, its a sound he just wants to keep hearing for the rest of his life, and makes it his mission to make you laugh at least once per meeting
But when you go out of your way to talk to him one day, he's over the moon and almost breathless. And with coffee in hand too, so when he took a sip and it was his favourite flavour, he stops. None of the other scouts paid attention to the smallest detail like that, yet you did. It made his chest feel warm, and lightheaded, but before he had the chance to thank you, you're gone.
He stormed through the castle one afternoon, orders were coming in left right and centre and he was slowly losing his sanity, but stopped at a corner when he heard your voice, talking to someone, he couldn't help but listen in, his ears twitching to hear you, he knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help himself
"So you and head witch Graye are close, huh?" "It's not like that" "Sure, sure, whatever helps you sleep at night." "That's the thing, I'm not sleeping." "Ew gross." "What? No, not like that, I'm just confused, I know what people say about graye, but I don't think he's like that. He's kinda mhm, you get me?"
Hearing his own mannerism leave your mouth makes his face incredibly flushed, but your voice again quickly distracts him, "Oh titan, I'm late for something. I'll see you around." And you ran around the corner, knocking into Adrian, You profusely apologise, but Adrian stops you, saying it was just an accident as he leads you around the castle to wherever it is you need to be, having small talk with you about your day and whatever else came to your minds, but he was distracted, replaying the moment in his head of you mimicking his words, and his tail flicked in happiness at the continued thought of it
Late night conversations
He just couldn't sleep that week, he was restless, you'd been getting into his head, he found that every moment he spent with you wasn't enough, he wanted to see you more and more as the days went by
He sat up and stared at the ceiling rubbing his face and decided to crawl out of bed, taking a stack of paper work with him to the castle library, thinking he might as well get something done, and to possibly do research on what was wrong with him, he definitely wasn't going to hettie incase it spread around like wildfire
But he stops in his tracks when he creaks the door open and hears a soft, quiet humming
He follows the sound, intrigued and irritated as it was making him sleepy, and finds a scout with (h/c) reading, back faced to him, so Adrian coughs to get their attention to move, as they were in the section he needed, the scout gasped, grabbed their helmet and quickly placed it over them before turning around, and adrians eyes widened, it was you
He knew it was you because of your mask. He couldn't help but feel guilty about making you stop humming
"Sorry head witch, I'll move", you rose to stood, and he stopped you, "no need, I actually wanted your insight on something." He sat you back down, but he had no idea what he was doing. These were private documents. No scout should ever read them. But what came over him next, baffled him to his core
"And please, when it's just the two of us, call me Adrian." The moment he said that he went white as a ghost, scouts were to address them as head witches, he earned that title and should be used, but he slowly started to feel different about it every time you called him that.
"Okay, Adrian" hearing his name leave your mouth made him feel odd, a feeling he couldn't describe, like he was about to throw up the pure essence of joy, but he didn't understand, he didn't know you all too well, so why would he feel happy to see you?
But all night you both talked, if he didn't know you, he took the opportunity to understand, like you'd done about him. At first, you were hesitant, but the little bits you did tell him were ingrained into his head, but something felt off in his mind. You didn't seem over the moon to tell him things tonight.
"What's wrong?" "Oh, it's nothing." "Come one now, we've been talking for a few months now, you know no issue you say to me will get anywhere." "I don't know, it's just strange, I suppose. I mean, you've technically ordered me to talk to you, I guess. And although i have enjoyed spending time with you, I can't but feel like you haven't. You're head witch and shouldn't really be spending time with scouts like me, it'll distract you." You said it so quietly, the conversation with your friend a few weeks back slowly getting to you, it was true you were spending time with him, but did he really want to?
You may have been confused, but to Adrian, it was deafening, you thought he was ordering you, that he had power over you to tell him your darkest secrets, to make you spend time with him, not thinking it was genuine.
He tried so hard to reassure you that he wanted to chat because you intrigued him, and he wanted to know why, what kept drawing him to you, but a part of you didn't believe him.
You figured he needed you for his job and was trying to warm you up to him so you'd do his dirty work. All you heard were the same rumours, and it was starting to get to you. But you were so interested in the man sitting in front of you that every time he was near you, that nagging voice was quiet enough for you to ignore it.
Adrian announced for you to meet him on the castle balcony tomorrow at noon, and not a minute later. He picked up his stuff and left, leaving you very confused, and a little worried you had upset him.
The day he realises his feelings and sees your face
Adrian sat on the balcony for two hours, wondering what to say, and at noon you arrived on the dot
When you go to the balcony, he was on the wall and patted the space opposite him, waving you over, but with a slight pang in his chest, he still couldn't find the words to describe it
he was curious on why you feel he using you, so you explain the rumours and that you supposed your brash behaviour was out of caution, which you apologised for, saying that the comments were getting to your head and that you may have misread him, a slight blush appearing under your mask, which you were thankful it was it was hiding
Adrian tells you he does use people for his work, but it's only because there's so much of it, and there are some scouts who know more about an issue than he does. His ears burned bright red, he wanted to stop himself from saying these things. He was tempted to slam his hand onto his mouth and walk away to save himself from embarrassment. But he couldn't. He was frozen in place
After that it was silent for a few moments, until you started a new topic, which Adrian took a sigh of relief, leading to him finding out so many more things about you, this time at your own free choice, which this time you were more than happy to share
But what made him finally realize what he was feeling all this time, was when you gave him a note book as a surprise, but not just any notebook, an ideas note book, he'd told you about scripts he'd written and directed but needed a new way to store them, and you got him exactly that. Telling him that you felt bad about the library conversation and wanted to cheer him up
You paid so much careful attention to him, and went out of you way to surprise him and cheer him up, that he couldn't help but leap at you with a hug, not realising it knocked your mask off, but you embraced him back, not realising either.
Scouts weren't supposed to take their helmets off while on duty. Coven heads weren't supposed to see their faces. So when Adrian pulled and back stared at you wide-eyed, you were confused about what had happened
"What?" "Your face" you gasped and slammed your hands your cheek to feel not a hard, porcelain mask, but instead your soft cheeks.
Feeling a sense of instant regret and shame, you stand, about to put the mask back on, but his hand stops you, "Don't. Sorry, it's just, you look so... wow."
You ears burn at his words, and thanked him, trying your best to hide a smile, returning a compliment to him, he couldn't help but stare at you, he wanted to say something more but the moment was quickly interrupted by the sound of feet walking up the balcony steps, you quickly shoved your helmet on and stood beside him, Adrian looking disappointed at your helmet
It was a message from the emperor about some more work for him, which Adrian groaned in annoyance at and shooed the scout off, taking a moment to read the note as he began to walk off. But as he reaches the step, he winked at you, telling you he'd see you around, drawing a spell circle, and a piece of small paper fell into your hands, it was his Crow number, before he started to dissappear down the steps, you stepped forward, raising your mask a little.
"It's (y/n)." Adrian turned back, a blank expression was quietly replaced by a toothy grin, as he nodded, whispering the name to himself in content and wishing you goodbye.
You two met up on that balcony every week at the same time, unless some more important business came up, which you gladly helped each other with in the library at night, knowing you were least likely going to be disturbed then.
Every meeting Adrian fell more and more, your comfort growing with your maks off around him, which he adored, and when you weren’t looking, would stare at you like you carved the moon and the stars yourself.
He tried to ask you out a few times, but when it came to it, he couldn't do it, he didn't know how, for a man with skills like his he told himself it would be easy, but he struggled to even get the words out, he remembers being this nervous when he first began talking to you, the worry of rejection plaguing his mind
But was surprised one evening when you showed up outside his door, and did it for him, giving him a bouquet of his favourite spiders and asked him to dinner.
He's never taken an offer so quickly.

Adrian Graye with a sleepy s/o headcanons:
Tumblr media
Honestly, it melts his heart, seeing you all cozy and sleeping in what looks like uncomfortable positions, and even mimicking some he sleeps in, like one time he curled up like a cat on his sofa in his office after needing a break from his work
Matching pajamas, whether it's identical, same colour or style or all three, he wants you to be comfy when you doze off, he knows what payajamas are best so you trust his judgement
Seeing you asleep gives him an excuse to clock off work and join you
If he comes back to his room and finds you soundly asleep, he'll soundproof the door so only he can hear it when someone knocks so it doesn't wake you up
If he's finding it hard to sleep, he'll sing quietly to himself and play with your hair
He definitely teases you and casts illusions of faces you made in your sleep
Gives you an enormous amount of nicknames, like cuddle bug, sleeping beauty, which only get more ridiculous over time
He secretly loves it when he goes up to you after a long day to just collapse in your arms and lap and nod off to sleep, with you joining him, not moments later
Doesn't care about calling you your embarrassing nicknames in front of people. If you're going to sleep, there are consequences. It's worse if you missed a night out with him and were in a deep sleep that you couldn't be woken
He's 100% a duvet hogger, so to prevent this, he bought you a blanket too of a design you liked, so he wouldn't take the main one from the bed, but he still takes yours too and then has the cheek to tell you he had no duvet when you wake up the next day, he's feels bad, but when he wakes up and sees you still in the same position when he took the duvet from you he doesn't worry as much, nothing can wake you the second you close your eyes and throws it back on you when he gets up
Whenever you start yawning, he'll wrap his tail around you to keep you close, and he'll make sure you're okay, asking if you want a nap or if you want a cup of coffee to help you stay awake
Has dozens of cushions and pillows everywhere, not just in his room but in his office for if you pop over after a mission, one of his favourites is one you made together, the stitching is all wrong and the fabric is ripped but its something you made together that he cherishes in his office and hides it with an illusion when he leaves.
He'll read you his notes and scripts, and may even act them out with illusions to you if you're having trouble sleeping one night, but sometimes before he can finish it, he'll fall asleep before you, starfished on the bed

Doll Adrian Graye x Reader: Wishing you were somehow here again.
ADRIAN SIMPS COME GET YALL JUICE. This man has me on a chokehold, and no, I will not apologise.
TW: angst, implication of a panic attack, survivors guilt ish. I guess horror near the end, but not really, but I'll put it here anyway, just in case.
Tumblr media
Most nights, soft dreams called to you, each morning the same nightmare. But even your dreams took dark turns, things you couldn’t escape from, feelings you couldn’t outrun. The guilt of not being able to help him and the pain of missing him each and every day.
It all happened months ago. If you were being honest to yourself, you stopped counting. The days and nights blended into one another, not that it mattered by this point, you were just living to survive, to not be turned into one of those things. A tool your dear partner had become.
You collapsed once the spell on the day of unity activated. You quickly realized it was a draining spell, depleting you of life. You tried to claw yourself up off the ground as others tried to run, either to escape or find their loved ones, fearing it would be the last time they would see them. That's what you tried to do, but the spell was causing you to get weaker, overpowering you. You first felt it in your arms, barely able to move them, let alone push your body weight up. But then it came into your legs, but you prevailed and kept pushing.
You hastily climbed the steps where the coven heads were supposed to be. When you reached the top, lungs burning as your body screamed to stop, you saw them all laying on the floor. You scanned the crowd, looking for Adrian, your eyes met the familiar frame of him, laying face down against the floor, holding himself.
You let out a shaky breath and tried to reach him, but your body was just too exhausted, and you felt your vision becoming blurry the closer you tried to get to him. You glanced down at the sigil burning into your wrist. The yellow veins crawled their way up your skin. If you survived, you hoped it wouldn’t scar.
You fell to your knees, inches away from Adrians unconscious form. You gently shook him.
“Adrian.” You called for him, voice hoarse and thin.
“Come on, you gotta get up.”
He was still unresponsive, his face beginning to slack, making your eyes widen as your heartbeat raced, feeling like it was going to burst out of your chest.
“Please. I still need you.”
You picked him up and held him close, his body limp in your arms. Eyes welled up with tears as they dripped onto his face. Your breathing quickened as you felt your eyelids begin to droop, head swaying, trying to keep focus.
But the darkness soon took over, and you felt yourself slump to the floor, still holding Adrian close. But as quickly as the darkness came, it went, it felt like you only closed your eyes for a few moments, but when you peered up to the sky, holding a hand out to see, you saw that the moon had moved position.
Adrians body began to twitch slowly, moving like he’d been woken up from a 100 year old slumber. Your attention was brought down to him, as you let out a wheezy laugh of relief, caressing his face, eyes running like a river.
“(Y/N)?” His voice cracked, confused.
“Shh, it's okay now.”
How you now started to dread those words every time you looked back. Words whispered in comfort became your downfall.
The sky turned blue, with hues of pink, as what looked like a young boy began floating, spinning around, sending waves of colour all across the isles. Stars from the sky came crashing down, sending the land into quakes, shaking those off their feet.
“Comon, we’ve gotta get up.”
You heaved Adrian to his feet, he wrapped his arms around you, legs dragging across the dirt, trying to walk with you. His grip loosened a few times, making you stop to try and hold him up once more.
“Common love, you got to help me here.” You tried to sound reassuring, but panic laced your voice. Adrian’s ears perked up at a high pitched sound, as something got closer. He turned quickly to face what was behind you both.
“Duck.” He tried to yell, coming out scratchy.
You turned to see what he was trying to tell you, gasping in surprise. You raised your hands, dropping Adrian as you summoned a shielding bubble. Pieces of stars were crashing against the coven head stage.
You tried to push against the weight colliding on the bubble, but the bubble began to crack. You looked back at Adrian who, looking at you eyes wide with fear and confusion, was trying to push himself off the ground.
“Adrian, get away from-”
A blast suddenly sent you flying backwards, head crashing against the ground, scrapes and bruises now littering your body. The sounds of faint screams ran in your ear, everything feeling numb as you sat up, your head feeling like it was spinning. A blue metallic star hovered over the coven heads, its forehead lighting up.
Reaching out a hand to him, you wanted to call out to him. But you were too late. A flash of white made you wince. Regaining your senses and vision, the scene horrified you. They had all transformed into wooden lifeless dolls.
You sat there in disbelief, wondering if this was a dream, that you hit your head and you were safe, wrapped in your lover's arms, soon to be coaxed into waking up. But the longer you sat there, the longer reality sank in. The screams of the people began to fade back in as you watched Adrian's body being lifted up by the same creature that turned him to wood.
“No.” Voice barely a whisper.
“Give him back.”
Your eyes were red and puffy, but they wouldn’t stop flowing, you hurriedly wiped them, and shakily stood, trying to run towards them, but stumbling every few steps you took. The pain was too much, but it didn’t matter.
“Give him back.”
Yelling as loud as you could, but by the time you reached them, they disappeared, flying towards a new floating castle above the titan’s skull. you stood there, motionless, you sobbed hard. Falling to your knees, you scratched the dirt, trying to suck in as much air as possible, your throat feeling like it was caving in on you, wanting to clutch onto some reality or sanity, whichever came first.
“What's the matter?”
The voice was young, probably no older than a ten year old, so you looked up, the figure spinning from earlier now in your view. His face was half yellow and half blue, eyes glowing a burning red. You would’ve been taken aback, had it not been for everything else that had happened until this point.
From that moment, the boy, known as The Collector, wanted you to be his protector. A parental figure of sorts. He saw the way you ran for the life of you to reach ‘the man with the funny tail’, and decided he wanted someone like that of his own. He spared your life, but when you asked for Adrian’s he told you no. The coven heads were his extra security, dolls to keep you safe, since you didn’t have the power he held within his arms.
You spent days scouring the castle, looking for him. You thought maybe they had a patrol, but you never passed any of them, even with using illusion copies of you to help you. You were close to giving up hope, when you passed through a corridor you hadn’t seen before.
Taking a final chance, you strolled down it, various paintings depicting the collectors life. It seemed he wasn’t favoured amongst his friends or family, you weren't sure. You felt pity for the young boy, but the pity died down.
You turned to find an open corridor, a white cage decorated the end, looking like vines spiralling down from the ceiling, with a garden behind.
But what dragged your attention was the coven heads standing in front. Your breath hitched in your throat. Whatever they were guarding must’ve not only been important but strong, too. You wondered if it were Belos, but the thoughts drained away when you saw Adrian’s smiling face.
You charged down the corridor and leapt into a hug. He felt cold and stiff. You tried raking your hands through his hair, but it was a hard texture, matching that of his body. You cupped his face, running your thumb across it.
“Adrian?”
You couldn’t breathe, it still didn’t feel real, like you were trapped in a cruel nightmare.
“Wake up. Please.” You whimpered, but he never budged or even blinked.
That's when the nightmares started. Adrian torments you, begging you to save him. Turning to wood right in front of your eyes, clawing at the ground as he gripped his neck. Each time you woke up in a cold sweat, you soon decided sleep wasn’t the best for you, so you focused on making games and taking care of The Collector and his new friend King.
But when you couldn’t evade sleep’s clutches, sometimes you did have pleasant dreams. Adrian plucking flowers from a field and placing them in your hair, as he told you the over dramatic tales of his missions. Strolling through the castles corridors, arm in arm, as he whispered promises in your ear, or even finding yourself tangled in your bedsheets, embracing each other, as the hair on his shoulders tickled under your nose, earning a loving smile from you.
But the pleasant ones always ended the same, he would turn to you and clutch your hands like it was the last time he'd ever hold you, telling you it's time to wake up. You’d beg him not to go, and your eyes would open, before you could even say goodbye.
You visited Adrian often, whenever you had the chance. Telling him about your day, how much you missed him, anything, if it gave you an excuse to say something to him, hoping, praying that something would make him snap out of it. But you learnt that only The Collector could break the spell.
You discovered the moon on Adrian’s head one time when you visited him, telling him about the games you, King and The Collector had been playing. You were sitting on the floor in front of him, and looked up at him with tired eyes, and noticed the moon sticking out from under his hair. Since that moment you did everything you could to try and remove it without hurting him. But King broke the news gently to you when he found you sobbing in the corner of the room, out of Adrian's view, when nothing seemed to be working.
Everyday, for the last however many months had been like this on repeat.
Today was no different. You watched from the castle windows, keeping an eye on King and The Collector’s game, observing, ready to take action if it went too far. A role King had to give you when The Collector threatened to send the losers of his game to space.
They flew in on The Collector’s star, and jumped to the floor. The Collector saw you waiting and hovered over to you, pulling you in a tight embrace as he spun you around.
“Mama/Papa (Y/N)!”
“Good evening, Collector.”
You gently ran your fingers through his hair, as he smiled up at you.
“Today was so much fun, But Terra ruined it in the end, she always does.”
“Maybe she’s just not the right type of character to play, Eda.” You stated gently, trying not to blame her despite knowing Terra quite well.
“Oh well, it doesn’t matter, I need to find a replacement now though.”
He let go of you, and a pit dropped in your stomach, did he turn her into a doll too? Would you become one if you didn’t do as he says? A part of you preferred the latter, that way, you wouldn't be able to feel anything, trapped in limbo with Adrian.
But deep down, you knew Adrian would never let you if he knew, wanting you to live your life, even if it was without him. For someone as dramatic as him, he could sometimes be selfless.
The Collector floated away, berating Odalia about something to do with the owl beast. You stuffed your hands in your pockets and were about to walk away when you felt a small hand tug at your leg.
“I’ll talk to him.” King said, nearly a whisper, but you shook your head, with a pained smile.
“It’s okay King, you’ve already risked so much freeing Eda and Lilith.”
King had told you about Eda and Lilith, that was how you found out only The Collector could free them. As much as you wanted Adrian back, you didn’t want The Collector to feel like he was being used like Belos did, much less end up like Belos.
You left the two children, who went off to play a new game you pondered. You knew if the Collector needed you, you’d be summoned, with either one of the endless dolls that resided here, or he’d get you himself.
The same corridor you’d gotten so used to walking through became your muscle memory, landing you in front of the coven heads. You stood tall in front of Adrian, staring into his lifeless eyes.
“Adrian, it’s playtime.”
Those were the words to ‘wake him up’, information once again at the courtesy of King. He told you the collector didn’t want to tell you just yet cause he thought it'd make you upset, knowing Adrian could move, but not control it himself.
The puppets could only follow orders. They couldn't think or move for themselves. The young boy didn’t want you to cry anymore. He only wanted you to smile and have fun playing games. Knowing that information would hurt, he hid it from you.
You hadn't tried to before, terrified it would alert The Collector that you had woken him, but when no alarms went off, you stood there, knees shaking.
Suddenly, Adrian’s eyes glowed a light red before he went limp, nearly falling over and spinning to life, standing up straight and walking towards you.
“How can I be of service?”
His voice sounded unfilled, without emotion. Like it came from a toy that you had to pull a string for it to talk. His mouth never opened, like it was coming from a voice box. It sounded like him, but not at all at the same time.
You nearly fell to your knees, gripping your mouth. You couldn’t stop yourself and ran to hug him.
“Adrian, I’m so sorry, I have no idea if you’ve been able to hear me till now, but there's so much I want to say.”
You tried to express between your heavy breathing, eyes beginning to well up. But his face remained expressionless, almost like he was staring you down. You lightly pushed yourself off him but still held his shoulders.
“Do you have a game?” He asked, titling his head to the side quizzically. You huffed in dismay. They were here for security and games, to protect you should anything go wrong. Nothing more.
“Yes. It’s a small game called memories.” You mumbled, your eyes darting across his face. The doll nodded.
“How do you play?”
“It’s simple. Just hold onto me, and I’ll show you. You’ll catch on.” You stated, removing a hand from his shoulder and holding a hand out, luring him in. He placed his own loosely in your hand. You gently coaxed him in as he wobbled towards you, moving like a marionette, until you stood in the centre of the room.
He matched your movement from earlier, nearly slamming a hand down on your shoulder, causing you to wince slightly. You stepped back, and he followed you. After a few movements, you let go, spinning him carefully, like he could crack and fall apart at any moment. The wood of his fingers scratch against your skin, as his back was turned you drew a spell circle, the room dissipating and turning into a hall you were all too familiar with at the emperor's castle.
Once he’d turned, his face had returned to normal, still expressionless, but when you reached up to caress his face, it no longer felt icy and wooden, but soft and warm. Your eyebrows creased, as your eyes winced, holding him there. You continued to move, dancing like you had done so many times at parties you had to attend, or even in your kitchen, when the world around you had gone to sleep, and it was just the two of you.
You saw something twinge in his eyes, but you told yourself it was just the illusion. You stopped, staring into each other, as you laid your head against his chest, not even hearing a heartbeat or the light sounds of him breathing. You gripped the clothes he wore tightly, that your knuckles began to turn white.
“(Y/N).”
You let go, eyes shooting open, looking up at him. He stared down at you, but your attention was pulled from him when you saw another Adrian at the other end of the ‘hall’. Your eyes shook, confused.
“You left me.”
“No.” You whimpered, holding Adrian close, it wasn’t real. You kept telling that to yourself, but the other Adrian only got closer, more walked out from behind him and circling around you two.
You tried to stop the spell, to bring you two back to reality, but it wouldn’t work. You couldn’t stop it, no matter how many circles you drew.
“Help us (Y/N).”
“You watched.”
“You did nothing.”
“It should be you standing here, not me.”
They all scolded. Voices rising. Panic started to set in, and your chest grew tight, making you feel breathless. You buried your face into Adrian, but he still didn’t move. He didn’t shield you. He stood there limp.
“Look at us (Y/N). Look what you did to us.”
You shakily raised your head and saw them. One moment, they looked at you with hatred, but their expressions became soft, looking at you like he used to.
But soon, their faces disorientated and melted away, peeling like wallpaper off a wall. Some of them ripped it off themselves, screaming as they did so, to reveal hardwood underneath.
They writhed in pain, begging you to help, screeching in agony. But when you didn’t move, frozen in terror, they suddenly lunged at you. You pushed yourself off Adrian and shrieked, crouching to the floor, covering your ears.
You expected something to hit you, but the voices stopped, and the impact never came. But there you still crouched, trembling. Having the courage to open your eyes, you looked around, teary-eyed, and saw you were back in the coven room. A stiff hand placed itself in front of you.
You watched it carefully, turning, to see Adrian leaning down beside you, holding a spell circle that began to fade away. Taking his hand, he pulled you up.
“That wasn’t a fun game.”
“No it wasn’t.” You tried to laugh but couldn’t muster the energy to do so.
“The dance was enjoyable, however.” He told you honestly, or it sounded like honesty. You'd spent so long not hearing a single feeling that you were putting them there yourself, interpreting them.
“Yeah. Me too.” You scratched an arm.
The silence was excruciating as you looked away from him. You decided today was enough, so you kissed the tips of your fingers and placed it on his nose, something he always used to do for you to help you calm down or whenever you were scared.
“Playtime’s over Adrian.”
With those words, his eyes glowed red like they had done before. He fell limp, stood up straight, and walked back, his movement fluid, like he was floating. Once he fell behind the line, his smile formed back into a nervous grin, staring into nothing.
You stood there, looking at him, and felt hollow. This was going to be your new forever, or at least for another long while.
“See you around, my love.”
You crossed your arms over your stomach, walking away, no longer having the strength to cry anymore. As you walked down the empty hallways, your thoughts turned to plan a new pretend game for Collector.
As you staggered away from him, Adrian jolted and jerked, like he was breaking free of stone, raising an arm in your direction. He froze, sucking in a high-pitched deep breath, and fell back into place once more. For a brief moment, water fell from Adrian's eyes.

Adrian Graye x Reader: Rainy days will make your blues go away
I saw the trailer for watching and dreaming, and with everyone discussing the bubbles being like a dreamscape for those who get trapped in them, I wanted to try the idea in a mini fic
Tw: angst ig at the end
Tumblr media
You slowly strolled down a pathway, trees standing tall above you both, causing you to stare in awe at them. Adrian hummed a laugh beside you as he took your hand and gently pulled you along.
“I know the scenery is amazing, but do keep up, I don't have that long of a break, you know.”
“True, but you can just immediately teleport to the castle, so what's the rush?”
“There's something I’d like to show you, it's so... Well I'd hate to ruin the surprise."
Adrian had woken you up early, his tail swaying in all sports of directions as he beamed down at you, presenting you with a box he clutched in his hands, wrapped in a blue ribbon.
It had some clothes in it, which he told you to wear before you both headed off, he wouldn't tell you all morning what it was for, even when he teleported you in the middle of a dense forest.
He ran his thumb along your hand as he slowed down once more, allowing you to catch up to his pace, not wanting to wear you out. The sun shone brightly through the trees, nearly blinding you, till Adrian raised a hand, blocking it from your view.
“Thank you.”
He merely nodded, smiling down at you, flashing his sharp fangs. He was about to bring his hand down once you entered a shady patch, but a small butterfly landed on one of his fingers.
“Look love.”
He brought his hand down to you ever so slowly to not frighten it. You gasped, and he lifted the finger and placed it over yours, the butterfly jumping from him to you, causing you to giggle.
“It's almost like a dream, like I’m about to wake up from.”
“You won't be able to.” His voice distorted to that of a child, causing your eyes widen, and you rapidly turn your head to face him, terror written all across your face.
Adrian to look at you with concern, as the butterfly quickly flew away from you.
“What did you say?”
“I said it sounds like a pleasant dream.”
You huffed a sigh of relief, looking away from him to re-compose yourself. You didn't know what came over you. Something about this didn't seem right. You were certain his voice changed, that the man in front of you wasn't entirely him.
Adrian rested a hand on your cheek, carefully turning your head to make you look at him, brushing a strand of hair out of your face.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. I’m probably just tired.”
You held his hand that rested on your face and leant into his touch, giving his gloved hand a gentle squeeze.
“Well, don’t worry, we’re nearly there, mhm?”
His tail wrapped around your waist as you two set off once more, but you were lost in your head, your mind began to wonder back to what he said but as quickly as the thought came, it was gone, forgetting what you were worried about and that you were even worried at all.
Emerging to a clearing, you gasped and clasped your hands together in shock, seeing a field full of flowers you haven't seen in a long time.
“Do you like it?”
“How did you find this place?”
“I had a little help from Terra.”
“I thought you hated her?”
You both laugh, and he lets go of you, gently nudging you forward.
“It's strange, I feel like I’ve been here before, yet I know I haven’t.”
Adrian stepped in front of you and sat, patting the ground beside him, so you followed his movement and sat next to him, resting your head on his shoulder, watching the clouds pass over the small towns below you.
The wind blew, slowly getting faster, and Adrian held you close, as a small droplet of boiling rain landed on your nose, causing you to wince. Before you could say anything, Adrian summoned a bubble around you. The rain suddenly fell hard, and you rubbed the tip of your nose.
“Well that's put a damper on things.”
You smiled at his pun and kept looking ahead.
“I don't mind it. I think it makes it better.”
“Maybe for you, but I’m not really a water person.”
You smiled and yawned, eyes beginning to droop. Your vision became blurry as the sounds of the rain pattering against the bubble makes you nod off. Adrian, realizing this, ran his fingers through your hair.
“I promise you, I’ll wake you up once this is all over.” His voice barley now a whisper in your ear as you fell into darkness, the sounds blending into nothing.
“See, I told you they’d be okay.”
Adrian, hand raised against a see-through barrier, stared at your sleeping form, resting on a copy of him. The collector's hand also pressed against the invisible wall, which he soon let go of.
"Stuck with their best and favourite memories of you. I don't really see what's so great about this one, but a promise is a promise." His voice echoed as he faded from the scene.
"It was their favourite place to go after I showed them." Adrian barely mumbled.
The illusion began to fade as Adrian's hand left the barrier, turning back into reality. He blinked harshly and appeared in a white and purple room. Dim blue lights filled the space, giving it a sombre glow, with beautiful paintings scattered across the walls.
Just inches in front of him, he stared down at your curled sleeping form, trapped in a light blue bubble, a content smile on your face.
“Now, to complete your end of the bargain, remember?"
Adrian clenched his fists and winced, taking a glance at The Collector, who'd held a small, glowing crescent moon in his hand, ready to fire it at him.
He took one last look at you, raising a shaking hand, wanting to go back to the dreams that kept you, but stopped. He took a deep breath, not knowing if it may be his last, and faced The Collector properly, who watched him, grinning madly as he raised his hand.
“I give you my word. This won't hurt one bit.”

Basilisk AU! Adrian Graye Vernworth x reader
Adrian is one of my favourite owl house characters, and there's only a few fics on him, so girl really pulled a thanos and said fine I'll do it myself.
This is one chapter out of possibly 5, but I'm not 100% sure, and it's only the staring chapter and Adrian doesn't appear until the end, to save any confusion :)
I tried to keep it gender neutral, but I hope you enjoy
Words: 1449
CHAPTER 1: CHANCE MEETING
You always had the same dream, you'd wake up in a field of white fluffy reeds, and stand, looking around, at first there was nothing, but as the years passed, the dream changed, first it was a tree, then you felt the sun on your face, then a person. They were always far enough that you couldn’t make out any details, but each time you’d get just a little bit closer you’d then wake up.
You told your father not to worry, that it's all they were, just dreams, but everytime he was never convinced.
Until one time, you managed to get to the tree, hearing someone softly singing, you turned around the trunk and saw the end of a dark blue scaly tail, with light blue fins, and you suddenly woke up. After that, you never had the dream again.
Your father, who was a Scout Captain, would always try to seek the help of any scouts that were proficient in oracle magic, as the dreams worried him. But none could help, he tried to go to the head witch Osran many times, but he always sensed when someone needed him and was looking for him, he would disappear, which you felt, you hated people too, especially if it was something stupid.
After a few years, you both gave up, and continued your studies, now officially getting into St Epiderm under the healing track, but studied the other tracks in your spare time when you returned to the castle, and with the extensive library they had, you’d always see something different, unlike the books you had at the school.
Belos allowed your father to take you into the castle after your mother was found guilty of being a wild witch, and there you stayed. You never really went out, only if you needed to buy something, you didn’t have friends, just people on your track that you spoke to every now and then.
You stepped off the airship, leaving with a few of the scouts, as a student living in the castle, Belos made sure you had extra protection, and so you could be watched, should you decide to follow in your mothers steps. You crossed the bridge, as it closed in on the castle, watching the clouds pass over.
You were suddenly nudged forward, and entered the gate, running your hand along the wall. Numerous scouts passed you by, but at the end of the corridor, had it not been for the stripes on the trousers, he would’ve been confused for any other captain, was your father.
You smile, and run up to him, as he opens his arms, picking you up and spinning you around.
“Hey kiddo! How was it today?”
“Not too bad, the teacher said my healing spells are becoming way more affective!”
He puts you down, and you brush out your uniform.
“That’s great, I told you you’d get it. What spells are you gonna be practicing this evening?”
You thought for a moment, before pulling a small notebook out of your bag, flicking through it, checking which one it was today. You wanted to practice them equally, so planned out what tracks to do in which evenings.
“Looks like beastkeeping today”
“Okay, just make sure you don’t combine too much of the animal's power. I really don't want to explain to Hettie why you have fire breath, scales and hands coming out of your eyes. Again.”
He gives you a stern look, leaning down at you, making you gulp.
“Well, I’ll bring dinner upto you at 6, okay?”
“Uhhh sure” You mumbled nervously.
“Great. See you later my little firebee”
And he walks away, whistling to himself. Honestly if he wanted to, he can be the most intimidating captain on the isle. But luckily for you, he chooses manners and temperament over intimidation. He’s patient, but after so many times, sometimes he can lose his cool.
You shut the door quietly to your room and threw yourself down your bed, staring at the blank ceiling above you. The room fell eerily quiet, something you were used to at this point. Scrolling through penstagram, you saw various posts on your classmates, group meetings at the library, playing grudgeby, shopping, anything and everything you couldn’t do.
Belos wasn’t a trusting man, you were already on thin ice, a few more slip ups, you’d get branded and forced to join to become a scout, so you’d be controlled and watched further. Honestly, it was mercy compared to anything else, so you were thankful, but sometimes the cost got to you.
Huffing, you sit up and rub your face, you were exhausted, but you wanted to prove that you could be useful and versatile in any way. So you look down at your book and flick through the pages, landing on a type of bat you were now all too familiar with.
You let out a shaky breath and rubbed your hands together.
“Okay. Here goes nothing”
In the air, you draw a big circle, lift it up and bring it down over you. At first, you peek an eye open, and look down at yourself, not noticing any changes.
“Well, they always say fourth times the charm.”
But before you can draw another circle, you get a pinching in your head. Wincing, you hold a hand over the spot, and feel something begin to poke out of your skull. Gasping, you run to your desk mirror, and stare into your reflection.
Bat ears begin to emerge, and your nose starts to wrinkle and recline back, becoming more pointed, as small tufts of fur circled around your neck, fingers becoming longer, and skin growing between your arm and hip, forming wings.
Your turn, looking at yourself.
“Holy titan.”
You tried flapping your arms to fly, you jumped, but ended up falling flat on your face. You huff, making your hair move out of your face, and stand.
“I can’t believe I did it.” you said, smiling to yourself.
“I have to show dad!”
You storm out of the room, your grin getting wider at the second.
“Excuse me. Coming through!”
You shove past some guards, causing such a ruckus, that they cling to the wall to avoid your path. You carried on, until your ear twitched, hearing the faint sound of someone crying.
You stop in your tracks and look around, the now empty corridor. You twitch your ears again, trying to find the sound, closing your eyes to focus. You hear it again, and it sounded like someone young.
You open your eyes, confused. You’re the youngest person here, or at least now were. Why would Belos hide them?
You run your ear along the wall trying to find where it's coming from. When you stand in front of a spot, resting your weight against it, trying to listen closer, you immediately fall through. You fall down a dark narrow chasm, hitting the wall at various points, giving you cuts and bruises, until you land on flat ground, going through one final wall.
Shakily picking yourself up, you look around, it's a room lit with only a few torches, making it hard to see. You tried to think of where you are in the castle, but you’ve never seen anything like this before. So you stand, resting against the wall, holding your arm, and wiping away any small traces if blood in it, as you look around cautiously.
All along the sides of the room was filled with cages, as you walked down the middle, you noticed they had plaques with numbers on them.
“Is this where they hold wild witches?”
You bent down to read a number. 25.
Something shifted down the room. You stood up quickly, turning your long fingers into claws, walking towards the sound quietly. The numbers on the cages went down. As you reached the number 5, you saw a door up a flight of stairs, at least you knew where your exit was.
The noise was back, like something being dragged across the floor, making you gasp and turn. You faced a cage, labeled 1. You took a step closer.
“Hello?” You barely whispered.
As you stood, face nearly against the cage, two scaly hands suddenly emerged, gripping the bars. You yelled in surprise, and fell back, casting a light spell, now able to see them clearly, as a figure began to emerge.
He were small, probably no bigger than you, covered in light and dark blue scales, eyes burning with fury. But the tail was one that was all too familiar to you.
A dark blue scaly tail, with light blue fins.
You stared up at him in fear and worry, his mouth began to open as he bared his teeth.
“Stay away from me!”

Basilisk AU! Adrian Graye Vernworth x Reader
Basilisk Adrian makes an appearance at the end, but this is the final chapter, so enjoy :)
Also, Adrian is a little ooc, but eh. And I don't usually write kissing scenes, so it's probably not the greatest
CHAPTER 7: Do you trust me with that poor heart of yours?
You held the box up to your eyes, containing Adrian’s present, checking the wrapping making sure it wasn't damaged. You were nervous, but also excited, Adrian was finally becoming a coven head, this meant Adrian could summon you to missions so you can’t drift apart like you did all those years ago, his words not yours.
You hear a knock at the door, so place the present in your pocket. Opening the door, you find Adrian, speaking of the devil, leaning against the frame.
“Morning Captain.”
“My liege.” Bowing sarcastically, he gave a salute to you back.
“Are you coming in or just lurking?”
“Rude. No, I was just making sure you’re ready for the ball this evening.”
“Of course I am, I have my outfit sorted and everything.”
Adrian peered into your room, scanning it, pulling an unconvinced expression, as he crossed his arms.
“Really, where is it then?”
“In my wardrobe, I don't want it to get dirty.”
“Shouldn't you start getting ready?”
“But it's not till this evening.”
“Exactly.”
The moment he said that, you chased him down through the castle, telling him that he had some nerve and audacity. Adrian, who knew you were joking, still feared for his life as he sprinted, telling guards you’d gone rouge as he screamed past, tail fluffed. Honestly they were tempted to stop you both, but decided they didn’t get paid enough for Adrian’s antics, and shrugged it off, pretending they were not about to witness a murder, wether that be emotionally or physically.
After Adrians unhelpful distraction, you decided to get ready. Your hands became shaky as you scrubbed soap through your hair. For a moment, you wondered what you had eaten to feel this way. Coming to a quick realization that you hadn’t eaten at all. You were too busy wrapping Adrians present and worrying about the evening. You hoped everything would go okay. You spoke to scouts to make sure it would be safe and secure from any attacks. They all gave you funny looks but obeyed your orders.
You found yourself standing in the main hall, the coven initiation was going to start soon. Everyone was here, the scouts, captains, even the other coven heads. You pushed your way through the crowd, making sure to be standing at the front, wanting to see the whole thing, and to support your friend. Patting down your cloak to, firstly still feeling the present in the cloak's pocket, making you sigh in relief, but to also make sure your outfit wasn’t creased. You just couldn't stop fidgeting. One of the guards nudged you, with annoyance as the candles turned down low, and Belos stood.
“Scouts, Coven Heads, today you’ve been summoned here to welcome a new head witch to the circle. Please enter: Adrian Graye Vernworth, new Illusion Coven Head.”
The doors opened, and there Adrian stood proud, his cloak trailing behind him as he strutted down the hall. You watched his every move with adoration, and clasped your hands together, grinning from ear to ear. Adrian turned and glanced in your direction, sending you a wink, causing your ears to turn a soft red. Your heart began to race, as you tried to hide your ears. You were definitely coming down with something.
He knelt in front of Belos, looking up at him. You couldn’t hear the words Belos was saying, with Adrian repeated them back. All you saw was his mouth moving. Everyone was applauding, snapping you back into reality, and so you clapped with pure excitement and joy.
“Now, let the ball begin.”
Belos stood and waved his wand. The candles burned brighter, as instruments were summoned, and began playing. The coven heads talked amongst themselves, and the scouts went to eat, drink, or even dance. You spun in a small circle, watching everything, but jumoed back when you felt a gloved hand place itself on your shoulder.
“I must admit, it's not too shabby.”
You turned to meet Darius, the Abomination Coven Head. Flashing him a surprised grin.
“I won’t lie, Belos has definitely upped the budget of these parties, you should claim compensation.” You joked, causing Darius to let out a hearty laugh.
“Don’t tempt me.”
You spent the next few minutes chatting, talking about his latest mission, his drama with Alaldor Blight that seems to be never ending, and a book he's written which he hopes to be published by the year's end. You were impressed, to say the least. He was doing so much outside of the coven. It just showed you how dedicated he is to his job.
But soon you said your goodbyes as Darius left to talk to his mentor, the Golden Guard, even now they remained friends. You grabbed a glass from a nearby table and went to a balcony, needing to get some air. You liked parties as much as the next person, but sometimes they did drain you.
You took a sip and looked up at the moon, lost in thought once more. You found yourself for the last months getting more and more nervous around Adrian, even sometimes losing focus, where he's had to snap a finger in front of you, a recurring joke now to him.
You swirled your drink, hearing footsteps coming near you, you turned, to find a grinning Adrian, with a hand on hip.
“And here I was thinking this would be another titan to (Y/N) moment.” he joked as he got closer, leaning his back against the railing of the balcony you hunched over.
“Ha, even on your coven day I won’t give you that satisfaction.” You tipped your drink to him.
“Pity.” He wiped a fake tear from his eye.
You two stood there in silence for a while, you stared down at the pit below you, belos really did make this place feel like a remote island sometimes, intentional or not.
“I can’t believe it's been five years. Time sure has flown right through us, hasn’t it?”
You glanced over at him, to find he was already looking your way, making both your ears perk up.
“Time well spent then.” His smile faltered, twitching, as he scratched a nail against the railing.
You place your glass down and put your hands in your pocket, and lean your back against the barrier, mimicking Adrian’s pose, when your eyes suddenly widen and you throw your hands out of your pockets, holding Adrian’s present.
“I forgot. I have something for you.”
You placed the small box in his hands, and he looked at it puzzled.
“What's this?”
“Just a little something for you becoming a coven head.”
He opened it carefully, and looked in the box, seeing a small mirror laying on some blue tissue paper. He lifted it, looking at the back, seeing it was an earring, but as he looked through the mirror's glass, he gasped, as he scanned the world through the lense.
“Not only does it show you what's an illusion or not, it's also an amplifier. You said you were struggling with some spells a few weeks back and figured something like this would help.” You shyly stated, starting to worry he wouldn’t like it.
“Wow.” Was all he simply stated, quietly, his attention was caught up in the mirror, as he placed it on his ear.
“How does it look?” He struck a pose, making you smile.
“It suits you.”
Adrian placed a hand on yours.
“Thank you. It's so mhm, it’ll really give my spells some more punch. You get me?”
“Yeah I get you.” You whisper softly.
When you both realized his hand was on yours, he looked at you nervously, opening and closing his mouth repeatedly, trying to form words. You stood there watching him, covering our mouth to stop you laughing. He finally took a deep breath, pulled a face and turned to face you.
“(Y/N).”
“Adrian.”
He put hand on your face, which you tried to pry off.
“No, no, nope, let me speak, and then you can respond, yes?”
You playfully nodded, to which he removed his hand from your face. But deep down a pit opened in your stomach, not knowing what he wanted.
"I fear if I do not say something to you tonight, I may never have the right opportunity or courage again.”
You stared at him with apprehension.
“All those years ago at grom, the first time we danced. I felt something. At first, I had no idea what it was, I thought it was just delight, which it was, but something else always lingered. Something I couldn’t explain.”
His thumb now gently ran itself across your hand, as his tail twitched, flicking in all sorts of directions.
“It’s only been recently that I figured out what that feeling is, I even spoke to Hettie, and the face she pulled is one I don’t want to see again, looking at me like I was insane.” He tried to play off, making the situation more light hearted, seeing the nerves creep their way up to you.
“But what it was, it was adoration. Everything you did, I felt myself wanting to do more to feel the light you brought.”
His ears turned a bright crimson red, he looked away from you, now straight down at your hands.
“But soon I found myself worrying when you’d leave, which grew more and more each time. Something that Belos told me a few months ago, and something that I now wholly agree with is that, you are my weakness. But it’s a weakness I’m glad to have.”
He raised a hand to hold your cheek, but hesitated, as it hovered there, too afraid to touch you. He was about to retract his hand, but you gently held it, placed it where it floated. Adrian rapidly blinks at you, and his face softened as you leant into the touch, like you’d done so many years ago, but this time, with a different feeling behind it.
“I understand if you don't feel the same, but if you do, then I promise to watch over you and protect you from any darkness that threatens to take your spark. Even if you do not need me to.”
You stepped forward, your thumb landing next to his when it stopped moving.
“You dont need to promise anything. I’ve always needed you, Adrian, even when there was nothing to need you for."
“Always?”
“Without fail.”
His lips quivered, as he too took a step closer, your faces inches away from each other.
“I promise to you, I am who I am because you were there to guide me. I want to be with you indefinitely.”
“Then indefinitely it shall be. I always read how love felt like a true home. Looking at you tonight, I know what that means now.”
He gently leaped forward, colliding his lips with yours. You nearly gasped in surprise, but kissed him back, which he groaned in content. You pulled him closer, taking your hand off your cheek to hold the back of his head, running your fingers through his hair.
He softly pulled away, slowly opening his eyes. You hand traveled from his hair to his neck, resting on the side, you pulled him back. Kissing him once more, his arms traveled to your side, pulling you in closer. The noise of the party began to fade out, hearing nothing but each other's quiet breathing.
You broke apart, staring into eachothers eyes, but your attention was quickly taken from each other, when fireworks were released. Adrian chucked loudly, and pulled you close, holding you in a warm embrace as you stared up at the sky.
“A little cliche don't you think?”
“Nothing wrong with that, is there?”
“Depends, never really took you for the romantic type.”
You delicately slam a hand against his chest, as he rumbled out another laugh, staring into the sky, watching the different colours light up the clouds.
Once the fireworks ended, Adrian walked you back, his tail curved around your leg to not draw too much attention or suspicion to you two. He opened his door for you and let you in, as you walked into the room you heard a small piece of metal clink against a table, and watch as Adrain shifted from his human form to his basilisk form.
He'd gotten used to you being around when he did it, so no longer felt self conscious, but today, once he shifted, it was almost like he was too afraid to come near you. You took a small step forward and held out both your hands to him, which he graciously took. He slithered up to you, wrapping his fingers around yours, twirling him in the middle of his room.
"Did you really mean it? All that you said tonight."
"Every word."
"Even with knowing what I truly am and look like?"
"Down to the last small scale." Whispering against him, leaving a peck on his cheek.
You slowly danced with one another, the sun surely rising soon. Staring to slow down, you softly cradled each other and fell asleep on his bed, wrapped in eachothers arms.
