orphan-account fic rec

Okay, if you orphan your fic for any reason -- I understand we're not supposed to out you as the author -- even if we have a handle on the connecting thread.

So here are fics which I know were all written by the same author, who shall remain nameless (who I never knew personally so I cannot reach them with thanks for orphaning rather than deleting from AO3)

The Sea in a Chasm, part 1 of Sussex "The news of Sherlock’s impending retirement hits John like a physical blow. He looks around for something reassuring to stare at, something comforting, but the flat seems suddenly foreign and he feels that he is falling, falling."

Boundaries, part 2 of Sussex, a short sequel " 'Do try to have some sense, John.' John leans back and waits for Sherlock to figure out why that wasn’t good. Sherlock, to his credit, doesn’t take long. 'That was—not an optimal reply. What I mean is, you deserve better. Than having to take, my, um, my feelings. On faith.' "

Filament and Feather is what got me interested in this artist; linked from a lovely little bit of poetry (not quite a 221b) written by aderyn; and inspired by one of @khorazir's earlier drawings in this fandom.

If anyone reading this now recognizes the writer of these stories, and knows any more stories in the orphan account which belonged to them, please share. Because, whoever they are/were, that girl can make words sing.

Aderyn says “Chip Shop Boy is a song about the rush of first having a crush on someone, and how those daydreams can make the mundane feel magical.” Chip Shop Boy is available on all streaming sites and bandcamp, and will be released on CD and cassette as part of Aderyn’s debut EP Sea Glass on 14th September.

Chip Shop Boy was written about Aderyn's infatuation with the boy who worked at the local chip shop during Covid lockdown. Aderyn says: “The chippy was the only place open in lockdown, and my imagination ran wild with blissful visions of our future together. It turned into this really fun song thats always a big crowd pleaser on tour.” Chip Shop Boy is an irreverent and irresistibly fun indie pop song with moments of Pavement inspired guitars, and more hooks than a fisherman. Aderyn also played all the drums on the track, which was recorded in West Wales with producer Gethin Pearson (Orla Gartland, Charli XCX, Adwaith).

Aderyn will play Gwen Gwen Festival this summer. Chip Shop Boy is the second single from Aderyn's debut EP Sea Glass, out 14 September

Cardiff’s “Queen of Indie Pop” (Radar Mag), Aderyn grew tired of life on a Welsh sheep farm and left home at 16 to be a drummer in a grunge band. Now striking out on her own in her first solo project, Aderyn’s music weaves together irreverent hook laden pop, with a scuzzier grunge influenced sound. Aderyn won the Welsh Music Prize Triskel Award in 2022.

The Bone Houses

Overall:

-     I was hitting a big of a rut right as I was starting to read this book.  life has been a bit crazy, and I needed to get back into my groove.  I mane it did help that this book has some really great vibes.  It was an interesting balance of like heartwarming love and creepy dead people.  I really appreciated the way he author approached grief in this book.  Especially the difference between The way Ryn was dealing with her grief and the way the people in the forest village dealt with theirs.  I think it was really relatable the way that the people in the forest village just could not let go of their loved ones.  No matter how decayed they became living as Bone Houses, they just wouldn’t let them rest.  I also loved that the over all message of the story was that no matter how your loved ones died they would want you to keep living.  Which is really what people should take away from this book.  You can miss the people you have lost all you want, but always remember that they wouldn’t want you to stop your life for them.  If you are dealing with this kind of a feeling, or know someone who is, this book may be a good way to try and relate that grief to something positive.
