Men are simple.

* Men are driven by:

- Who they are.

- What they do.

- How much they make.

* Everything he does is filtered through his title. (Who he is).

* How he gets that title (What he does)

* The reward he gets for the effort. (How much he makes.)

“These three things make up the basic DNA of man-hood-The three accomplishments every man must achieve before he feels like he’s truly fulfilled his destiny as a man. And until he’s achieved his goal in those three areas,the man you’re dating,committed to,or married to will be too busy to focus on you. “

“The pursuit of manhood doesn’t change once a boy is grown. In fact, it’s only magnified. His focus has always been on, and will remain on, who he is, what he does, and how much he makes until he feels like he’s achieved his mission. And until a man does these things, women only fit into the cracks of his life. He’s not thinking about settling down, having children,or building a home with anyone until he’s got three of those things in sync.

I’m not saying that he has had to have made it, but at least he has to be on the right track to making it.

This is the drive that EVERY man has. “

Men want to feel like they’re number 1.

* The best somewhere.

* In charge.

* They want the bragging rights. The right to say “I’m number one.”

In a man’s world 🌎 he’s going to be judged by other men based on:

* Who he is.

* What he does.

* How much he makes.

“That affects his mood. If you know he’s not where he wants to be, then his mood swings will make more sense to you. His “on the grind” mentality will make more sense to you. It’s ALL tied to the three things that drive him. “

Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man – Steve Harvey (Book Review)

What happens when you are about to go on a second date and just hours before the date you get text-dumped twice (first as a date; second as a friend)?  Well, one of the things I did, on the productive side, is listen to a good colleague when she recommended I read “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” by Steve Harvey.  I am a firm-believer that time heals everything, however, this book became an admittedly much needed confidence booster for how to approach dating and healthy communication. Admittedly, most of my dating advice comes from other 20-somethings so a new perspective is warmly welcomed.

While the perspective in the book is limited in its insular origin (many generalizations, stereotypes, gender role presumptions, woman-shaming, and obvious-from-the-title heteronormativity), it offers one decent perspective.  Harvey uses humorous though insightful analogies for how to communicate with someone different than you, and how to exactly set expectations early in a connection e.g., not waste your time.  He also uses realistic examples to, as he describes, disguise values and standards in pretty talk.  For instance, how to kindly explain how being late is unacceptable while coming across very politely and non-contentious.  Overall, I think he provides a solid and basic introduction to the dating world and communicating – likely to be the most effective for the inexperienced dater or someone needing a pick-me-up. It is well-written and easy to follow. Would I recommend it?  If you just got dumped and need a sliver of hope and advice, then you would not regret the read.
