Okay, so I kinda wanna know your thoughts about how weird the fandom portrays the bat characters. Canon is ... not my favorite, but it actually offers a lot of nuance to the characters that I think makes them all interesting. Unlikable, but interesting. I noticed fanon tends to boil the batkids all into these superflat caricatures. Like, cereal obsessed manchild Dick Grayson or bad boy who's literal crimes are only because of the lazarus pit Jason Todd. Its not really a major problem, just weird
Oh I have a LOT of thoughts about this. I try so hard not to shit on how other people interact with content because like, it’s comic books! We’re all just here trying to make the best out of a mess of stuff and have fun, but admittedly a lot of fanon stuff drives me fuckin’ nuts as someone who reads a ton of comics.
Like, I like memes, obviously, I draw tons of memes with the batfam (+ yj) characters and make lighthearted jokes etc etc, and honestly if it’s just for jokes then I don’t mind people having whack interpretations of the characters quite as much. The thing that drives me up a wall though is like... when serious works and analysis and discussion are very clearly based on just the fanon interpretations without any bearing on canon aside from what you could skim from a wiki page, and it’s spoken like it’s fact! There’s ‘having fun with jokes that aren’t taking things that seriously’ and then there’s ‘blatantly mischaracterizing based on misinformation’. Way too often I see things fall into that second category.
Now, a lot of people in the batfam fandom don’t... actually read comics (or at least not frequently) and that’s not even a bad thing necessarily, like you’re 100% allowed to enjoy content however you want to! (I don’t wanna be gatekeepey, especially since comics are confusing to get into)
But the problem is that when a lot of people aren’t reading the comics, then the people who do’s opinions have a lot more influence if they’re loud enough. All it takes is one person who read something and interpreted it a specific way that might not even be correct, and then it can echo chamber and suddenly half the fandom thinks it’s 100% canon that way because ‘oh so and so said that and they actually read it’.
I also think that’s a problem with the popularity of out of context panels/blogs, while they are super funny sometimes, when people make assumptions about characters based on just a few things without context... it can lead to problems. If enough people say something enough times people just... start to think it’s true, even if it exists entirely devoid of context which changes the meaning.
Like, for example, according to canon there’s no actual confirmation Tim stalked Batman on foot for an extended period of time! We know from Lonely Place of Dying that he followed him once to get a picture to convince DIck that he still needed a Robin. Otherwise his ‘stalking’ & how he figured out Batman’s identity was more through media appearances (like newspapers and tv). This is wildly different from the common fanon idea that little Timmy was sneaking out regularly to follow Batman & Robin around with his camera.
I primarily blame Geoff Johns for this misconception because of these panels in in tt 2003 (from issue 29)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But like, think about it for a second, literally how would Jason know that? This is one of the first times he’s ever interacting with Tim, and he was dead/catatonic when that would have been happening! He is either making a wild assumption or perhaps Talia told him this when she told him about Tim, whichever of those it was it’s secondhand information not something he witnessed. Taking his word as fact here makes no sense, he was just trying to get under Tim’s skin while fighting him. But seeing those panels out of context if you haven’t actually read Lonely Place of Dying/only read a vague summary of it, and don’t necessarily know the details of the Jason situation, it could absolutely lead you to believe otherwise!
Dick as a cereal manchild is a weird one because like... okay yeah sure he likes cereal, I can think of like two panels I’m too lazy to find right now off the top of my head of him having it, but... that’s not something we see all the time! Its not like Ollie & his chili (which IS a running joke- seriously I have not read that many Green Arrow comics but the amount of times I’ve seen that man bring up chili in just in the few things I have read is wild. there’s even an official recipe. his chili has it’s own dc wiki page). Then, because Dick isn’t quite as emotionally closed off in the same way the rest of the batfam tends to be, people project literally all the pent up feelings onto him, making him this hug-crazy crybaby manchild... again it’s just very clear people who perpetuate those ideas (outside of like, maybe as jokes) haven’t actually fully read that many comics with him. I’d also even blame the Young Justice cartoon version of Dick for some other traits fanon Dick has, bc that version of him is def a bit of a Hot Mess™️ once he’s Nightwing
Jason I understand misconceptions about probably the most because of how wildly inconsistent his writing was before the new 52 and how consistently Not Great it was once Lobdell took over. Jason’s one of the few characters I have read like, 90% of appearances for so I’m speakin’ from experience here. But still... acting like Jason as Red Hood is just a ‘bad boy rebel’ that could have a relatively happy connection with the whole Batfam is fun but unrealistic. You can not blame everything on the lazarus pit... he still has killed people! Lots of people! Willingly! Yes he has reasons and when he’s being written well it’s clear that he’s not just ‘random murder happy’ but rather ‘I kill when I feel they deserve it and that it’s necessary’ which is what keeps him an anti-hero rather than a full fledged villain most of the time, but that still keeps him so at odds with the rest of the Batfamily! Writers in more current continuity have had him compromise by only using rubber bullets in Gotham so they can have him interact with the family, but he’s still killed and will do it when he deems it necessary.
Also like... at the time of Under The Red Hood in the comics... theoretically... he hadn’t even been in the lazarus pit for well over a year. Go read Lost Days (it’s short! And except for the thing with him & Talia towards the end of the last issue it’s pretty good!), he spends a lot of time traveling the world and learning things/training before the events of UtRH. Yes you could interpret there still being some Lazarus influence going on there but I think the movie version of UtRH especially leads people to believe there’s a lot less time between his dunk in the pit and his first actions as Red Hood.
Fanon also has a lot of ideas about pit madness that vary wildly from what we have seen in canon, like yeah it’s been said to be a thing to some extent, but there’s not really the Danny Phantom Glowing Green Eyes™️ or anything like that... it’s fun to explore cool new ideas for sure but I just think it’s important to recognize the distinction between things that are actually canon and things that are popular fanon. (Also there are things that fall somewhere in between, there’s definitely stuff that isn’t 100% confirmed canon but could still be plausible/has been hinted at by some writers/is only canon in some settings)
Other things that drive me nuts are ‘quiet does-no-wrong angel Cass’ and ‘the Normal One™️ Duke’ because those just make literally no sense if you’ve read any comics with either of them... but fan content either does those versions or just completely ignores their existence a lot of the time! So! That’s a whole bigger problem!
In general though, this is fandom it’s not like this... matters that much on the grand scheme of things in life, we’re just people on social media talkin’ about comics. And this kind of misconception/flattening of characters does happen in literally every fandom ever. But it still does suck to see characters that have a lot of nuance and interesting history to play around with get reduced to a few traits that aren’t even actually that relevant to who they are.

1 : I disagree with the anon who thinks tae has a hard time dealing with his sexuality and jk does not. In the earlier years, tae said very conservative things but since a long time now, he has been the loudest supporter of lgbt of the entire group, answers harshly to delulu fangirls and even implied he wanted to sing his love christmas song only with a man because he chose to not release it when a big hit producer made him sang with adora instead of jimin.
Tumblr media
Disclaimer - please keep in mind the below is our opinion / theory on the topic at hand. The timeline is separate from asks and we strive to remain credible, and driven by facts, there. In asks we more freely theorize. Thank you!
Sara: These are my rough thoughts as of 9th of November 2020. General Disclaimer - I could easily change my mind about anything that I say that isn’t included in the actual Timeline due to the extreme level of insight or subjectiveness that asks usually require which can only be answered with opinions in development and insufficient pondering / research. Well, this turned into a discussion which is good :) I do agree that Jk also struggles with his identity and is afraid to be outed without being prepared, which is natural. This would fall in line with him saying he didn’t want “a kiss from a boy” as he panicked in his coming of age day back in 2016 when he already knew he liked Tae (the famous day joon called for tae to kiss him). Mind you, on that same trip Tae said it was weird to hold a man's hand in public when he saw JK and hobi holding hands in the streets of Europe. I don’t think Tae said that due to jealousy. I think it was his internalized homophobia speaking (meaning self-rejecting feelings that are so common within lgbtq individuals where they are affected by what society considers correct. That’s where self-hate comes from). Both Jk and Tae deal with internalized homophobia and they’ll probably deal with it their entire lives to some extent, because it doesn’t necessarily disappear in its entirety even if you come out and “accept” yourself, especially if you live in a conservative environment. I can tell they’ve both come a long way though and they are much more comfortable in their own skin. It’s beautiful how Tae has embraced gay culture and clearly feels part of the lgbtq community. I think Tae seeks for belonging while Jk is much more “independent” and I personally think the idea of “a community” doesn’t resonate with him as much. I don’t know if it’s due to him being a huge introvert or what but not every non-straight person needs to be immersed in the gay scene. There was a time that Jk repeatedly mentioned Troye Sivan as his top 3 favorite singer (while he was self-discovering), recommended “memo” by years & years, etc, and we don’t know what he enjoys in his private life so...at least we know he did find solace in gay public figures during an important period of his life. I love Tae being sassy and shutting down fan’s fantasies, but Jk playing along is innocent and his way of being “friendly”. Jk is the opposite of what toxic masculinity looks like so I don’t see him going out of his way to look straight. He does whatever he wants. He uses women’s perfume, unironically fixed his long hair up into 2 cute ponytails while eating out, enjoys cosmetics and does his own makeup, owns pink items, etc. I’m just saying he doesn’t have a fragile masculinity. Saying bro is just for laughs and to sound cool and american. Him saying he didn’t think he could fall for a guy was a joke to overly compliment hobi while not outing himself. It’s not that serious. He didn’t have the need to joke about crushing on hobi, but he did so VOLUNTARILY. To me it seems like he is pretty comfortable with himself as of now, but remember they are closeted and in a delicate situation.
Kayla - hi anon! The beauty of discussions is each is entitled to their opinion. Respectful discussions are fun - thanks for being kind in your ask☺️I personally think Jk referencing “I’m still me” then taking the time to draw it in artwork speaks volumes. It was around the time Joon recommended a song from the movie and it’s a famous quote so to me, that’s not a coincidence, though you’re entitled to discard it if you wish. I also think we need to consider the context of Jk calling Tae bro - an interview in which he looked at his lips at one point, and caressed his back as he said that word. Those two were pretty affectionate through the overall interview. For some, the bro comment is proof TK aren’t together. For me, context is critical. That moment never dissuaded me on them being “real”. I know some will disagree on that so please know that’s simply my interpretation of that moment. Plus my UK friend said soon after that moment she calls her partner “bro” jokingly so I second Sara it may be as simple as that in why Jk said it. As far as the Hobi comment, I feel like that statement alone shows Jk is part of the lgbtq community. He flat out is saying he fell for a man … and I anticipate one would argue he’s joking but, for me, there’s truth in jest. He didn’t have to say that comment yet he did. I just want to leave it as I don’t agree Jk wants to come off straight at all. I mean don’t forget this is the same guy who also said grapes were more interesting than the girls at the shoot...and this was in his teenage years so🤷🏻‍♀️some may say he was just nervous around the women and that is, of course, totally okay if they interpret it that way. I just view that comment differently. And he’s wearing genderless clothes this year (2020) and changed the lyrics of “savage love” to be genderless, so he shows support, it’s just not in a bold way like Tae. He’s worn a paper clip earring and suppprted lgbtq artists so he does acknowledge the community. I think it just comes down to some people place greater weight on others knowing their identity.
I think Tae wants people to know, hence why he’s expressed loud support in various ways, whereas Jk doesn’t really feel like he needs to address it. My take is Jk genuinely just doesn’t care how people perceive him, and that’s why he isn’t as vocal as Tae, who seems to indicate he really wants people to know his identity. Jk is fortunate to have a progressive family (an example being during his vlive he said, “Anyway, my parents were like that. When I was young, no matter what I did, they let me be and do whatever I wanted to do”), he has loving and supporting members - that support system must have helped greatly as he went through his exploration and struggles. He absolutely struggled, and I agree on that, but I think it was easier for him in some ways because of his environment / support system, and who he is personality wise. Jk is a man of action, not as bothered by the opinion of others (again, we can look to his tattoos as a big indicator of this) whereas Tae seeks validation, even this year, from ARMY. Him saying during pride month, after reading the CMBYN monologue “I want to be happy too🥺” to me shows he still struggled with public perception. Personally, based on private talks I don’t want to get into too deeply in this public setting, I think Tae came more to peace with himself this year. But I do personally think Tae had a harder time coming to terms than Jk did (and has alluded as much when he’s mentioned his struggles with school and puberty, plus some of his solo work). Let me be clear, both struggled, and as Sara says both dealt with internalized homophobia, and I don’t think anyone would disagree with that, but Tae’s overall loudness, for me, shows he wants people to know. That’s why he’s loud. Jk not being loud doesn’t mean, to me, he wants to come off straight. Jk has done an amazing job over the years of smashing others’ preconceived masculinity beliefs and he does it comfortably. For me, it shows he’s just not bothered as much by public perception. He is who he is and it doesn’t matter what people see or think. I’ll agree that Tae definitely is the most vocal member, and seeing him happier and appearing at peace makes me happy, and I definitely don’t think he has any issue with people speculating. I really think it’s important to him for us to know, and i think he wants us to know. As an aside, I know I’m just a fan but I'm super happy for Tae seeming to be more accepting of himself. I know a lot of people, including myself, are touched by him, as well as the other members, for the various ways they’ve shown support to the LGBTQ community.
PS - thanks again for being respectful in initiating further discussions on this topic Anon💜sometimes checking the inbox makes me anxious so I immensely appreciate when people can hold a respectful and kind debate on various topics.

Superman & Lois Episode 3 Review: The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower
https://ift.tt/3rzwEKz
This Superman & Lois review contains spoilers.
Superman and Lois Episode 3
“Morrissey’s a xenophobic has-been.”
This one line, delivered with deadpan perfection by Alex Garfin’s Jordan Kent pretty much sums up why Superman & Lois episode 3 is so good. Wait, really? Yes, stay with me for a minute…
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
I loved the first two episodes of Superman & Lois. There’s no question about that. But there was a very slight nagging feeling in the back of my mind, that maybe this show was going to be a little too serious for its own good. That maybe in the process of making Jonathan and Jordan Kent as believable as possible, and as “relatable” (god, I hate that word) to young audiences as they needed to be, that the show would end up trying just a little too hard, get a little more wrapped up in its “family drama, but with Superman” high concept than it strictly needed to, and maybe forget to lighten up every now and then. I could excuse it in those first two episodes, which play like one feature length pilot when watched together, and which had a lot of work to do to get us to buy this very different take on the Man of Steel, but I wasn’t sure if the tone would sustain over a longer stretch of episodes.
And then along comes “The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower” to put those fears at ease. To be absolutely clear, this is absolutely not a drastic change in tone from what has come before. But now that we’ve gotten to know the Kents and their neighbors and classmates, and that the Smallville setting feels very much like the natural setting of the show, there’s a little more fun to be had. No, this isn’t suddenly The Flash and STAR Labs with a team of folks cracking wise at every opportunity, and it’s certainly not my beloved Legends of Tomorrow, but the humor is here, it’s subtle, and it works at every opportunity.
The opening scene with the family trying to paint the old Kent home is a charmer, a moment broken by Clark hearing a bridge collapsing in China which he speeds off to save. It’s another near-cinematic action sequence for this show, but the special effects aren’t really what sell this scene, it’s the moment of terror to relief to pure joy of a single fisherman as he realizes he’s witnessing Superman hold up a bridge…and Superman’s wordless interaction with him is equally joyful. This is something that simply hasn’t been done in live action interpretations of Superman since the Christopher Reeve years, and I honestly rank those few seconds with Supes and the fisherman as one of the best screen moments in the character’s history.
This episode is full of moments like that, even though Tyler Hoechlin once again spends most of his screentime as Clark rather than Superman. But even there, this is certainly Hoechlin’s finest performance as the character so far, bouncing effortlessly between Man of Steel to “Clark the superpowered dad dealing with problems new even to him” to “Clark who has to act like there’s nothing special about him.”
I worry slightly that Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane still doesn’t quite have enough to do as they build her Morgan Edge investigation through the Smallville Gazette. In every other aspect, moving the family to Smallville has worked, particular in regards to exploring completely new facets of the Clark/Superman dynamic, but Lois so far feels a little out of place. On the other hand, I should probably be thankful that they aren’t trying to “do a journalism” the way it’s so often been portrayed on Supergirl or The Flash, and maybe the slow burn is the more prudent move here. Anyway, it doesn’t change the fact that Tulloch is a delight in every scene, and she is quickly becoming the definitive screen Lois for me.
But the real highlights for this episode come in the form of Jonathan and Jordan, the two characters I was most skeptical about going into this show. I’ll confess, despite some terrific comics by the likes of Peter Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Dan Jurgens, Brian Michael Bendis, Ivan Reis, and others in recent years, I’ve never been the biggest fan of the “Superman as dad” concept. I tend to like my Superman stories a little more unencumbered (or some might say traditional, but whatever). But Jordan Elsass’ Jonathan and Alex Garfin’s Jordan are just so darn likeable, and the story being written for them so compelling, that I can’t really complain.
The idea that Jordan would try out for the football team despite his burgeoning powers seems a ridiculous one, and I honestly thought that sequence was going to be revealed as a daydream (similar to Clark’s in the first episode of Smallville). But it’s real, and it doesn’t go quite where I thought it would. Jordan excels at football…as it turns out, he’s a bit more powered up than Jor-El suspected last episode. You’d naturally expect this to lead to friction with Jonathan, who has yet to get the hang of his new team, and for a brief period it does, but then the show does something unexpected.
This isn’t about football going to Jordan’s head or even about him “getting even” with the guys who have been bullying him. Instead, it’s the first time he’s felt part of something. After absolutely leveling Sarah Cushing’s boyfriend (well…ex-boyfriend now) on the field, he offers his hand and apologizes for that awkward kiss at the Shuster Mines. Jonathan, meanwhile, sees the good the team is doing for his brother and advocates for him with a Clark who is understandably annoyed that his son is using his powers to gain an advantage on the football field.

Superman & Lois: Behind the Scenes of The New DC TV Show
By Mike Cecchini
I know, I know, this all sounds far weightier than the Morrissey joke I quoted at the start of this, but it all unfolds with a little charm, and some surprisingly light touches here and there. Jonathan and Jordan reacting to an incredibly awkward moment with Sarah and Lana, Clark overdoing his “dorky, eager dad” routine, and other little touches just make this feel like the show is settling into a rhythm with these characters and getting more comfortable being playful.
It’s perhaps a little worrisome that Wolé  Parks’ mysterious Captain Luthor is nowhere to be seen this episode, with the only superhuman punch-up coming in the form of guest star Daniel Cudmore’s mysterious, nameless goon who makes the mistake of trying to take out Lois during her investigation. That leads to a really sharp (but quick) punch-up between him and Superman, with a terrific sequence where Superman freezes him with super-breath before delivering a perfect uppercut that would look right at home in a comic panel. If this show continues to work out creative ways to use Superman’s powers the way they have with Barry on The Flash, I think we’re gonna have some real fun in the coming episodes.
But then there’s that ending. As Lois asks, why DOES Morgan Edge have someone with super powers working for him? More than one, apparently, as Cudmore’s mysterious baddie is vaporized by a woman with heat vision named…Larr. So far, the formula for Superman & Lois seems to be to give us a family drama heavy episode, punctuated by moments of cinematic action, and then to close with a mind-bendingly cool reveal. Well, if they insist, who am I to argue?
Metropolis Mailbag
There’s not a ton of DC or Superman Easter eggs this episode, so I don’t think it’s necessarily worth its own post. But, here’s what I’ve got…
The bridge collapse scene does faintly call to mind Superman saving the Golden Gate Bridge during the earthquake in Superman: The Movie.
Jonathan telling Clark that “if you’re not actually allowed to be special” etc feels like a subtle nod to teenage Clark telling Jonathan Kent in Superman: The Movie that he could excel on the football field if he wanted to, which Jonathan forbids, saying that Clark isn’t here to “show off.” But that Clark’s answer was a philosophical “is a bird showing off when he flies?”
Cudmore’s nameless character is apparently “Subjekt-11” a designation which calls to mind “Subjekt-17” an alien raised by the Soviets to make Superman’s life miserable in Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco’s incredibly underrated run on the Superman comics.
Sharon Powell may not be a character from the comics, but the folks at Kryptonsite used their X-Ray vision to point out that the actress who plays her, Jill Teed, was known for portraying Maggie Sawyer on Smallville!
Tyler Hoechlin finally gets to talk a little baseball on this show. Before going into acting, he was a baseball prodigy.
It seems that’s Morgan Edge’s right hand woman, “Leslie Larr” vaporizing our mysterious baddie. The closest I can find to her is a “Lesla Larr” who was an obscure Supergirl villain. THAT version of Larr hailed from Kandor (post shrinking) and she made Supergirl’s life miserable from time to time. I don’t expect this version of the character to have too much in common with her comics counterpart, but it seems like “evil Kryptonians” are definitely gonna be a thing on this show going forward.

Why I think Johnny Suh’s Rising is...
Scorpio.
I don’t know why I had the need to make a whole damn post about it but I am cos I feel strongly about it, and I welcome people to come argue with me about this. ok that sounded semi-threatening, it wasn’t I promise. Please do interact and share your opinions, I love to hear them!! This is a completely useless post but here you go. Also, I didn’t go in too much depth in some placement and kind of kept things a bit superficial and did not talk about every single placement that he would have.
First of all,
Tumblr media
the way he just looks makes me nervous. That’s all.
Let’s look at the basics of having a Scorpio Ascendant:
The most prominent thing about Scorpio risings are their eyes.
They are usually piercing, intense and it stands out. Another thing that is common with Scorpio Risings is having “bedroom eyes” and/or “tired looking eyes”*
Sharp looking profile. I am not going to talk too much about actual physical appearance of risings cos I think it is more complicated than that, like there is a lot that goes into it. But i can make a post about it if requested ;)
Even if the person is outgoing, they are very observant and really good at “reading the room”, and just picking up emotions
Scorpio Risings are the mfs who just stare at people, they make intense eye contact for like no reason (whether is conscious or unconscious it depends on the person but in Johnny’s case, he 100% does it on purpose, does no one else remember that time he said he makes direct eye contact with people on purpose to make them nervous/uncomfortable??? (that's peak Scorpio AC culture right there)
Very strong-willed individuals who can overcome a lot of hardship
Values privacy a lot and absolute kings of keeping secrets
Scorpio Risings also have a magic way of making everyone open up their secrets to them. You probably won’t even realise, they just have that vibe that makes you open up
s a r c a s t i c
it does not matter who you are, what you are, what you’re into. Everyone is attracted to Scorpio Risings and you want to f**k them. I don’t make the rules, we just have that power. You can hate them or love them but you cannot help but be attracted to them.
also fun fact for y’all, most celebrities have fixed sign risings (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius)
*reminds me of this one thing I saw on twitter once about how he hated when people asked him if he was tired when he wasn’t because he has a natural “sleepy” look or something along those lines
Now onto the fun part, looking at how his chart would look like if he had a Scorpio AC and why it somehow makes sense:
Leo Midheaven: For those of you who might get Leo vibes from Johnny, this might be why. The Midheaven is your “public persona”, the person your co-workers see and strangers see in public/work settings, and well Johnny’s job is being an idol so that is why he might act more like his Midheaven at first glance, and with his Mars also being in Leo, I believe it only heightens this. So Leo Midheaven is a midheaven that you’ll often find amongst performers/entertainers/singers/actors because people with this placement tend to be insanely charismatic, charming, creative and natural leaders. They also come across super confident, in their place of work they are loud and full of pride, you’ll just notice them no matter what. Naturally, they have a talent to inspire others, and sort of have a regal quality to them. The only thing bigger than their ego is their heart (very kind people), but it is their ego that helps them get far ahead in life, they’re also very ambtious and because they are so ambitious, they only aim for the best of the best (i.e. being famous). Great at storytelling, presenting, acting and possess an insanely creative mind, at the end of the day they just want to be seen. Seriously, Leo MCs seem to be those people that were just born to shine, they stand out wherever they go.
Sagittarius on the 2nd house cusp: Lucky with finances and doesn’t worry much about money or their belongs (not @ Johnny throwing his fucking iPhone like it costs $5), even if you grew up poor (which he obviously didn't, he is a middle-class suburb lil bitch and it shows) you don’t worry too much about money. For some people, it seems like you spend your money a bit recklessly and just buy shit, and like to spend your money on experiences and travelling. Fun fact, I also have this placement I can confirm all of these are FACTS and I- mmm i dont want to talk about my spending habits cos yikes :)
Pisces on the 5th house cusp: Two words: hopeless romantics. To the point where it’s slightly unrealistic, but that’s a different story. They really want the whole fairytale, the glass slipper and the spotting someone in a crowd and falling madly in love kind of thing. But also they express their love in a selfless, unconditional way, these are the kinds of people who love blindly and accept all your flaws. Can be very sentimental.
Tumblr media
Cancer on the 9th house cusp: With this placement others have an affinity for you as an authority figure who has a strong nurturing or protective feel, very supporting and encouraging. It can be an indicator for moving away from the place where you grew up and finding comfort in foreign places. People with this placement also find it easier to adapt to different cultures.
Virgo on the 11th house cusp: The helpful friend, looks out for everyone, they will always be there for you and great at giving advice. The type that remembers the little things, truly the parent friend cos they look out for you and the kind of person you usually love spending time with and make plans with. Actually only has a few *close* friends.
Sun in the 3rd: People with this placement are usually known for their intelligence and way with words. Sun in the 3rd house people hate to be bored and are always willing to try new things and experience new things (they also adapt very well to any situation), they’re also pretty light-hearted with a great sense of humor and can be mischievous. It also really balances the fixedness of his Aquarius sun. With the 3rd house of communication falling in the Sun, it gives the person a lot of confidence in their speech and pride in their communication skills. It is also said that people with this placement travel/move around a lot. Friendship, and again communication, is very important to them, they make friends easily and have a way of relating to others, also very open-minded.
Moon in the 7th: This is definitely a people-oriented kind of placement, their emotional security is achieved through others, they have a strong need to be around people. (some astrologers also say that these people are the kind to always be in a relationship of some kind, it doesn’t necessarily mean an official “relationship” but A relationship, be it platonic, romantic/committed or literally just casual dating but they need to be with someone because they hate to be alone = feel unstable without someone) These are also the kind of people who fulfill their emotional needs per se through others, so by making others happy.
Mercury in the 3rd: This is honestly such a perfect placement for Mercury, since it falls in its natural ruling house so the planet feels comfortable with this, especially being in an air sign (Aquarius). One of things that Johnny is known for is his “communication” skills, hence why he has a whole YT series: JCC or Johnny’s Communication Centre so this placement is the one that makes the most sense. Mercury in the 3rd house just boosts everything that Mercury represents, it might make someone have a short attention span or get bored easily but they pick up on things very easily, they are very good at multi-tasking and have a very active mind. They are usually the type that know a bit of everything, always have fun facts for you and can have a conversation in literally any topic with anyone, somehow know everyone and are friends with everyone, natural charmers. They LOVE to talk and talk a lot, they excel at any form of communication or writing, this reminds me of two things: (1) The translator at the Mexico concert said that Johnny asks a lot of questions, is very curious and excited to learn (spanish) and also talks A LOT. (2) I heard somewhere that Johnny was in a debating club in school. To sum up Mercury in the 3rd, are great at talking, communication comes easy to them and are huge social butterflies, a good sense of humour, very curious like a child and also like books. boom, jOhnny.
Also to expand on this communication talk: He’d also have Capricorn in the 3rd house, which usually makes someone careful, these are the kind of people that think before they talk and unless they know what they are talking about, they shut tf up. Their voice can sound quite intimidating and authoritarian, but there is something comforting about it. Also tends to make someone very sarcastic, their humor is a bit dry, very dead-pan, the type to make jokes with a serious face and expect you to get it? Also tOO mANy dad jokes.
Venus in the 2nd: Another Mr. Romantic placement that just fits Johnny way more than I want to admit. People with this placement are big old-timey romantic, they don’t fall in love easily but when they do they do fall hard and are completely head over heels, even if they don’t “fall in love easily” they secretly just want to be in love. They live for the pleasure, the romance and the beauty of it all. The type to send you a 100 roses with a card saying “to my one and only, from your one and only”, or buy you a huge teddy bear that smells like him, do the whole wine & dine you, picnic at a park and then take photos of you. It really isn’t about the huge romantic gestures, rather the small and cute ones, it’s about making memories and creating mementos, but also about the cheesy yet classy romance. They can also be super touchy, very physical. Another thing about them is that they really like to buy people stuff, and shower people with material things, it’s (one of) their love languages I guess. I can’t remember right but I am pretty sure I heard somewhere Johnny always buys members shit, like he just buys them stuff all the time.
Mars in the 9th: I said I wasn’t going to talk too much about appearance here, but more energy/vibe instead but I can tell you this much, legend goes that people with Mars in the 9th either have a thing for thighs or have t h i c c thighs* or both so.... Very experimental people, lighthearted yet passionate, really turned on by languages and laughter/smiling. This is the kind of person that will debate anything to do with beliefs, and if you question their beliefs they’ll be like “:) :) :) ok cool ur opinion is valid, everyone has their own opinion :) :) :) except urs sucks :)” you know they secretly love intellectual fights, cos they’re opinionated as hell and have strong opinions, they’re super straight-forward and open-minded (regardless of the fact that they have very strong opinions) and are always willing to learn. Not the best at sugar coating things, kind of blunt whilst still remaining kind and humorous. But since his Mars is in Retrograde, the more aggressive sides of his mars will be very internalized. But their desire in life is to spread joy and laughter, they are very good at making others laugh and being playful.  Fun fact: people with this placement tend to move is a very bouncy kind of way, very clumsy. Another fun fact: I heard once that people with this placement may or may not have a teacher kink, and a sex abroad/while traveling kink, also having sex outside.
Jupiter in the 1st: First of all, I have seen a few Nctzen-astrologers type Johnny as a Sagittarius rising and this would be my explanation for that. Having Jupiter in the 1st will give you similar features and energy as a Sagittarius rising, people with this placement tend to have a larger than life presence, your presence is felt before you even walk into a room. Planets in the 1st house kind of go in pair with your rising (because well, it falls on that house duh) so it has a huge influence on how you carry yourself, how you present yourself at first sight, the kind of vibe that you give off and with Jupiter falling on your first house you just exude this optimism, enthusiasm and honestly? Just happiness and positivity. Also people with this placement tend to have big smiles and a large bone structure, Jupiter is the planet of expansion so it makes “bigger” everything that it touches so in the first house it will make your physical features “bigger”: big smiles, soft cheeks, thicc body, etc. This placement also makes people have a certain child-like quality, a permanent youthfulness because of the way they carry themselves (positive vibes y’all), they are also very driven and persistent people, with this fire inside that makes them succeed in anything they set their mind to, maybe it is because of this blind optimism that they eventually succeed. I don’t even have to go on about how this fits with Johnny because I think it speaks for itself.
Tumblr media
Saturn in the 4th: out of the many things Saturn represents, your fears is one of them, in the fourth house there could be a fear of losing family, also fear of being unloved (even if you are a very loved person, it is always in the back of your mind), also a fear of not being safe, and not belonging. Belonging might be quite important to him and above all, with this placement: family is taken seriously. People with this aspect value family a lot, and feel responsible for their family. And I think anyone that stans NCT can agree that Johnny definitely seems to take family quite seriously.
Pluto in the 1st: LMAO ok so Pluto in the 1st, is one of the most intimidating placement a person can have. Even if you are the biggest cinnamon bun in the planet, people will be intimidated by you and lowkey scared of you at first glance. You will just naturally give off major alpha intense vibes, no matter what you do. This truly contradicts his (possible/hypothetical) Jupiter in the 1st, I can see it creating this extreme duality (that is very Johnny ngl) of being this intimidating ass man but also being a ray of sunshine that literally oozes positivity. With Pluto in the 1st, you also tend to rub people... a special way. When you have this placement in your natal chart, people either hate you or love you, there is no in-between whatsoever, but regardless of that everyone wants to f*ck you and if they say they don’t, they are lying to themselves. People with this placement tend to be insanely magnetic and people tend to be attracted to them, if they are in a room, you’ll notice them for sure cos their aura is just so intense. QWLL SHAPED LIPS
I’d like to add this here to back up my theory: How Yuta said Johnny was the scariest hyung, and they all fucking agreed and Ten SHOOK his hand like “finally someone said it, that bitch is terrifying” and then there was that time (I couldn’t find it sorry) where Doyoung said that they were all watching a horror movie and everyone kept chatting and Johnny was like all of you shut up and Doyoung said that in that moment Johnny was scarier/more intimidating than the horror movie. Also, I have this theory that idols show probably would show their rising signs more in airports, cos you know they are just walking, minding their business with their “external self” faces on so I can see how their AC would show more in those situations. And like have you seen Johnny walking around in airports? That tall bitch is intimidating as hell, he has that stare and bitch face down to a T and then I remember he has the personality of a teddy bear and I am like ???????? how
Tumblr media
Note: for him to have these placements he’d have to be born at around 0:30 am.
so HMU if you want me to do other members and I’ll do some research about it and do a post like that. I am not sure about some of the other members but I do feel strongly about Lucas, maybe Ten, maybe Taeyong (not too sure about him yet)

DCAU #11: Two-Face (Part 1)
“All men have something to hide. The brighter the picture, the darker the negative.”
Tumblr media
We’ve made it, guys! We’ve made it past the developmental/establishment stage of Batman the Animated Series for the most part, and from here on out, the show elevates to a whole other level. Like virtually all tv shows, there will still be ups and downs, and a few bumps on the road, but it is pretty well known that not only does Two-Face mark the true start of the masterpiece that is this series, but is also one of the absolute greatest episodes.
Villain: Rupert Thorne Robin: No Writers: Randy Rogel (teleplay), Alan Burnett (story) Director: Kevin Altieri Animator: TMS Airdate: September 25, 1992 Episode Grade: A
Oh man, so what do I say about this one that hasn’t been said already? Probably not a whole lot. While not a lot of people set themselves up to look at, analyze, and write about every episode of the DCAU, doing just Batman is more common. And granted, I don’t allow myself to read any reviews of any episodes until after my posts on them are written, I am still for the most part aware of what people’s opinions are with some of these high-profile episodes. So I think the best thing to do is continue just like I intended. Not caring about necessarily writing something that people haven’t heard before, but instead just writing whatever is on my mind for reactions, and also expressing Char’s thoughts as someone who has never seen the series before. After all, most reviews of this show come from people who have seen it prior!
This is Alan Burnett’s first episode of the series, and once he and Dini were both activated, oh man. It is clear that they saw eye-to-eye with Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, and it was a collection of the right people joining forces at just the right time. Both Dini and Burnett had worked on some pretty basic Saturday Morning Cartoons prior (along with some higher quality stuff), and writing for those types of shows must have felt like interning and doing nothing but pouring coffee for those that hold the job you truly want. They could use their creativity, sure, but knowing their visions for this show, it is apparent how stifled they must have been. Which is fine, they were still doing what they loved for a living, and getting very necessary experience. Maybe without these formative years and working on these cheesy cartoons from the 80’s, they wouldn’t have had the jobs to come up with the beautiful stories that they did. Creativity and writing is something that can get worse without practice and training, and sometimes that training truly does need to work much like it did in The Karate Kid, not being apparent until after it is completed. But while I’m not a fan of everything that Alan Burnett contributed to the DCAU, there is no denying what a valuable member to the team he was. Welcome aboard, Alan. But now let’s talk about the episode itself.
Two of the things mentioned in the series bible are as follows: the villains were to much of the time be human and have motivations, and the show was to be a noir crime drama, sometimes focusing more on everyday mobsters than colorful super villains, and not necessarily being a “monster of the week” type of show. And while Harvey Dent/Two-Face is very much a monster when it comes to appearance, this episode falls right in line with these rules. I had to think a little bit when I wrote who the villain would be for this episode, because yeah, Two-Face is a well known member of Batman’s rogues gallery, but Rupert Thorne is the real monster here. And goodness, what a cool villain he is. His voice actor, his lines, even his motivation, while not as sympathetic as Harvey’s, makes a lot of sense! He’s a mobster trying to do mobster things, and Harvey Dent is a real problem for him. But you also totally wanna see the creep get creamed by Harvey, because damn, you feel Harvey Dent’s pain tenfold. Leave the guy alone, he’s going through enough!
And throughout the episode, things just go further and further downhill for Harvey Dent, exponentially. He lashes out in public. Okay, that’s bad and gets a lot of press. But it’s nothing he can’t recover from. Then we find out it’s a recurring thing that he’s seeking professional help for, and just now getting worse. Then Rupert Thorne gets involved and severely threatens Harvey’s career as a politician. Then we have that god damn explosion, and at that point, you just know that there is no recovery, particularly as he flees the hospital, abandoning any hope for treatment. You feel the pain at the pit of your stomach as you watch, and let me tell you, even though I have seen this episode before (albeit only once), my heart was beating during certain scenes, particularly when he is talking with his psychiatrist and when he is at the “meeting” with Rupert Thorne and his goons. A couple times I heard Char gasp, and when that explosion happened, she had her mouth covered for a good while, hardly able to believe that Harvey Dent, one of Bruce Wayne’s best friends, a surprisingly clean-cut, honest politician, and someone we have seen a couple times now, is the villainous Two-Face that she has heard about before.
It’s not even just his character. It’s the fact that the episodes of this show so far have been good, but not this level. This is a serious, adult episode that I think would actually be pretty intense for children. I made a joke to Char when we were discussing the episode, and I said, “But it’s just a little kid’s cartoon!” and she responded with, “No it is not.” We deal with politics in a way that’s actually engaging. We deal with the struggle of a severe mental disorder and childhood trauma. Gosh jesus, the way this episode handles the mental disorder! Char and I both applauded it. Bruce Wayne telling Harvey how proud he is that he’s seeking mental help just warms your heart, and looking back after watching the episode (along with part 2, which has been watched, but we’ll discuss that next time), it almost brings a tear to your eye. Especially since all that could have been done was done. Harvey was getting help. His finance, who is a great character by the way, gave him all the love and support she could have. Bruce Wayne encouraged him to get better and even stepped in as Batman to try to save his friend. But sometimes with life, you can do everything right and it’s never enough. That is what makes this story a genius tragedy. Much better than what they were originally planning with the character, where they would have had him get acid thrown in his face like his traditional origin, and then develop the episodes. Him struggling with these mental problems for longer than his scars have existed feels so much more real, and adds to what makes this character so complex.
Then we have the style and animation, and it does nothing but enhance everything. Director Kevin Altieri outdid himself here. Some of the shots, including one of the most iconic images ever of his other face being revealed for a second when the lightning strikes, are simply beautiful. There were a lot of other little things like the rain on the window at night, which Char specifically noted. There was a specific close-up shot as well when Harvey was bandaged in the hospital that was extra stylized, but it standing out and being different than the other animation worked in its favor. It fit the mood so well. A different animation studio would do Part 2, which is a bit of a shame, as it didn’t end up looking nearly as good as this one, but I’m glad they blew their load on this one at the same time and made the visuals match the episode concept so well. Animation similar to some of the first episodes of the series would have killed the vibes which they were going for. It was a mini horror movie, lacking any amount of camp (something that Nothing to Fear didn’t do nearly as well). Also, TMS is very well known for being a studio of amazing quality and detail.
Something cool that Char noticed was that Grace, Dent’s fiancé, didn't touch him when it came to calming him down and forcing “Big Bad Harv” away, and it’s evident at another section of the episode that touching him in this state tends to set him off a lot more. This is a cool subtlety, and it shows that Grace is very in tune and familia with Harvey, and is definitely the closest thing to a safe-haven that he has. When he is with Grace, it gives you hope, when he is with almost anyone else, well, Char put it best, you could cut the tension with a knife. I think this is what leaves your heart beating throughout the episode, and what makes it so suspenseful. That tension. But while watching, you hope that the pressure is relieved. Instead, it ends with quite literally an explosion. We’ll see how things resolve next time.
Char’s grade: A Major firsts: Rupert Thorne, Two-Face, a two-part episode
Next time: Two-Face (Part 2)

Did you know there are 48 megas, and 2 primal forms?  I could've sworn there were fewer.  This is such a weird revelation.  Anyway, because there is a flat 0 chance of me shutting up enough to just rank them all, we're keeping the format. Based on my personal preference, top 15 and bottom 10 mega evolutions.
TOP 15: 15) Camerupt - I was never that big a fan of Camerupt, though I certainly didn't dislike it by any means.  So the mega was a welcome addition, and I think it's a pretty interesting one!  If there's any real flaw, it's that Fire/Ground still is not a good typing for something that is so slow and requires setup to run effectively.
14) Steelix - Mega Steelix looks awesome, but wow is it bad.  The excess defense does it few favors since it didn't need it, attack and special defense still are not impressive enough, and they gave it a weather-dependent ability.  There were so many different ways to take this mega that could've made it better, but I guess this is what we live with.  A really cool design with a poor competitive presence.
13) Pinsir - Not one of my favorite megas, but one I greatly appreciate because it became so relevant.  Pinsir is a beast to fight, and especially when Megas were first introduced, it was never a top tier enough threat to be well-prepared for, which...hysterically worked in its favor.  Pinsir's movepool is crazy good, and it got a lot of tools it wanted with the mega and its ability.  The only unfortunate part is, as always, Stealth Rock, and the requirement to boost.  Swords Dance is what really lets it blast through things, and with it, you lose a lot of coverage.
12) Absol - Similar to Steelix, Absol is a Pokemon I really like, and I was thrilled about its mega.   Its design is gorgeous, and Magic Bounce can always be fun.   Unfortunately...it suffers from being a mixed attacker, which hasn't worked since gen 3.  It lacks and form of bulk, 115 speed is good but not good enough when you have no hold item, and even with its special attack getting a massive boost, it's just not high enough to make it really work, while physical sets need to run Swords Dance if it's going to do anything other than late-game cleaning.  You're pretty locked in to a lot of move choices, and it's unfortunately now in a position of too awful for UU, but too good for RU.  Maybe some day that'll change...
11) Groudon - By now, I think people have a clear understanding that my preference between two Pokemon tends to favor the weaker.  When it comes to Kyogre and Groudon's conflict, Kyogre is the decisive winner.  So, of course, Groudon was my favorite of the two.  When the remakes were coming, things suddenly got turned around entirely.  Groudon now had a far stronger ability, a stronger typing, and enough raw power to blast through just about anything.  I love the turnaround.  Its also a pretty great design, seeming to be literally filled with the magma it embodies.  I know it's a nightmare who has ruined competitive forever, but I'm just so happy for it.
10) Beedrill - Similar to Pinsir, I adore Mega Beedrill for largely competitive reasons.  Its design is intimidating, but really, it's a situation where a mega went to the best possible option, and actually salvaged what some claimed was the worst Pokemon in competitive.  Much like Absol, it has almost no defenses to speak of.  Unlike Mega Absol, however, Beedrill went for the most min-maxed spread of stats I have ever seen, virtually eliminating its special attack stat in favor of a blistering 145 base speed, and even more ridiculous attack stat that got Adaptability of all things.  Combined with some great tools in Drill Run and Knock Off, Beedrill was set to be a real monster.  But then, even Gen 7 gave it gifts, allowing it to hit that 145 speed on the turn it mega evolves, allowing it to reject use of Protect and pack all its delicious coverage into one set.  This is exactly what mega evolution should be like, for a Pokemon that could not have deserved it more.
9) Venusaur - Venusaur is my favorite starter from Gen 1, and to my joy, I feel like it got exactly what it always wanted: the best possible tanking ability for a Grass type.  Eliminating half of its weaknesses outright, Mega Venusaur then got 120+ in both defensive stats to boot, creating an optimized tank that could be incredibly offensive with some recovery support, or an unbreakable wall.  Plus it just looks awesome.   This is exactly the kind of treatment that Venusaur deserved, and I'm so happy for it.
8) Lopunny - And you thought Beedrill's improvement was massive.  Just like Beedrill, Lopunny had no attempt to be a balanced improvement, and just invested everything into speed and attack.  It really does showcase the difference in mega philosophy between XY and ORAS.  The ability is what really makes it stand out, allowing it to cover everything in the game with just two moves.  The design is pretty good, but really, I'm just glad that Lopunny, of all things, got a serious power-up.
7) Altaria - Did I mention how much I love Altaria?  Because it got a mega, and go figure, it's one of my favorites.  It's a giant cloud with a bird-dragon inside. The design is so captivating, and the typing is divine.  I'm not a big fan of Pixellate as the ability, and stats are spread a bit too evenly for it to really be that fantastic, but it's done really well for itself.
6) Ampharos - And now we get into massive competition going forward. Ampharos just barely misses top 5, largely due to performance.  Its design is great, and a bit comical.  The power-up it got is massive, and it works wonderfully on Trick Room teams.  But...well...  Dragon typing was a mixed blessing, giving it a lot of resistances, but also giving it three new weaknesses to worry about, including the ever-critical Fairy typing.  Dragon Pulse being added is good, but without Draco Meteor there's far less of a potent hit-and-run tactic with Volt Switch, making it rely more on bulk.  It's an unfortunate case of having a lot of improvement, but also having some added changes that really hindered it as well.  But it does look great, and is a great choice on Trick Room.
5) Aggron - I've mentioned before that I love defensive play.  Not necessarily outright stall tactics, but bulky offense and nasty tricks. Mega Aggron embodies both, being a physical behemoth of a Pokemon, with an ability that cuts super-effective damage by 25%, as well as Thunder Wave + Iron Head to really just mess with things.  The mega form certainly has flaws.  Its special defense is certainly lacking, and its speed is just a bit too low now that paralysis got nerfed, not to mention the inaccuracy issue.  But its a great design and a great battle role for this wonderful evolutionary line.
4) Banette - Banette is...odd.  I really like the design of its mega form, as if the spirit is bursting out, and Prankster is an excellent ability, but it just feels...haphazard?  There's too much attack for it to play entirely like a defensive Pokemon, not to mention the lack of recovery is an issue.  Prankster allows for a lot of status play, but the options it really needs kinda force it into very few options.  Priority Destiny Bond is always fantastic, but by now everyone is familiar with what Banette does, so it's pretty easy to predict and play around.  I think a bit of extra speed would've helped it to really be a threatening physical attacker.  Still, I absolutely adore this thing.  There are so many threats I've taken out that would otherwise steamroll a team, thanks to priority Destiny Bond. Gen 7 speed mechanics also allows it to run Substitute, which I think is an even better option than most.   It's an obnoxious stall game you play with Phantom Force, but an effective one.
3) Gardevoir - A large part of me is disappointed this isn't #1, but I'm sure you'll understand why when we get there.  Gardevoir was the single biggest point of hype for me in the days before XY was released.  The reveal of Fairy type and what it did.  The reveal that Gardevoir got the typing.  The reveal that it was getting a Mega!  And look at that Mega design!  That's supremely classy, and the shiny form has a black dress just for added cool points.  Everything in this generation was so kind to Gardevoir.   Everything except its stats, anyway. Gardevoir would be another of my "embodiment of what a mega should be" options, if it weren't for the +20 to attack.  There is no variant of Gardevoir in the entire world that's going to use that.  +20 to defense would've been far more effective, allowing her to tank Scizor's Bullet Punch.  +10 speed and +10 anywhere else would've allowed her to keep pace with all the other megas that arrived with that speed tier in ORAS.  Gardevoir has since fallen to Borderline, and just...isn't as strong competitively as she should be.   100 is an awkward speed tier now, being just a bit too slow even among megas, and definitely too slow for something that can't hold an item.   It has massive firepower, but physical bulk is depressingly low, which, combined with the speed problem, means its not surviving long without team support like Sticky Web or Tailwind.  I swear, if they'd just re-allocate those 20 points in attack, Mega Gardevoir could be perfect.
2) Diancie - Diancie was a surprise to no one when it was officially revealed. Datamining is a thing, and the demos are notoriously bad about hiding that information, so we knew about Diancie almost as soon as the games came out. What we did not know, however, was that it got a mega.  And damn, what a reveal.  The mega form is gorgeous, among the prettiest designs in the entire game.  The stat spread also changed dramatically, emphasizing speed and power over defenses (although 110 defenses is still stupid good).  Magic Bounce was icing at that point, allowing it to avoid status entirely.  Diancie got everything it could want, but more importantly, it got something I think should be more common: a mega that functions different from the base form.  We'll talk about this a lot in the bottom 10, but I feel like megas, for Pokemon already doing well, should aim to be unique compared to the base form.   Diancie's mega is about the most different from its base form of any mega, and I adore that.  But, there's still one mega that's even better in my eyes.
1) Mawile - Behold, the ultimate lifeform.  Mega Mawile is, without question, the best mega.  It's a tiny little creature that's creepy yet adorable, the perfect mix of traits. Its power is beyond compare, in a fairly literal sense.  In fact, if it weren't for Psychic Terrain, I'd say it would still be Ubers right now.  Which is hysterical, because everyone expected UU when it was revealed.  Huge Power is a monstrous ability, and with the increased power from mega evolution, Mawile is now the strongest Pokemon in the game by raw numbers.  Access to Swords Dance also means it's power can skyrocket even further, or negate a Will-o-Wisp outright.  Some people even ran SubPunch, just to get around its most common answers like Heatran.  Sucker Punch got around its low speed, and made a mess of everything for standard attackers.  Even with the meta changing this generation, it sounds like the most that's happened is that many Mawile now run Iron Head instead of Swords Dance, just to destroy the fairies that are running around the tier.  Mawile is everything a mega should be.  Stats were perfectly allocated.  Ability was perfectly determined. At the end of the day, a small nothing at the bottom of competitive play became one of the biggest threats around, and that is exactly what a mega evolution ought to be doing.
BOTTOM 10: 10) Alakazam - I like Alakazam, and I like its mega, but you know what's dumb? Getting only +90 instead of +100 for your mega form.  That's dumb.  That's really dumb.  It also doesn't help that, without Lele around, I can't imagine Mega Alakazam is all that good, since its defenses are still frail as shit and you'd knock it out by sneezing in its general direction.  The mega form just also doesn't appeal to me all that much visually.  It's not bad, but it's definitely lower end for me.
9) Glalie - Talk about a Pokemon that could've used a mega but just missed its mark entirely.  Is Glalie still NU?  I imagine it is, since it has so very little going for it.  Ice type is Bad, no matter what, and Refrigerate did little for it, basically just allowing it to explode more easily.  When your mega's main draw is entry hazards and exploding, you know there's a big problem.  Its design is also...not good.  It's the same angry face on a block of ice, but now the mouth part is bigger.  It's underwhelming in every sense, but hey, I guess they at least tried?
8) Abomasnow - This is as good a place to being as any: many of the megas from XY are on the list, entirely because they do nothing different from their base forms.  Their ability is the same, and their stats are basically the same with a few increases across the board to make them identical, but with better stats and no hold item.  Abomasnow, I feel, got the worst of it.  Hail is already bad, Ice/Grass is a terrible typing with too many weaknesses, and its stats were not sufficiently improved to really make it threatening.  You require trick room for it to function at all.  It's at least a nice new tool, since most Ice types need Trick Room to function, but this is a Doubles-only benefit.  In Singles, it's just another Pokemon that requires too much setup to really function.  It definitely needed a mega, but one that did something different than what it got.
7) Latios/Latias - Listen, I love the Latis.  They're a fantastic duo.  In fact if they weren't, there's no way they'd only be #7 on this list.  I love their typing, their designs, and their hold item.  Which is where things start to go wrong.  Any mega would have to contend with Soul Dew, and almost hysterically, the obvious answer of "give the megas more speed" is the one thing they didn't do.  Instead, it's a 20 or 30 point in every other stat, turning Mega Latias into a supreme tank with no hold item, and Latios into a mixed attacker with no hold item.  The result?  Latias had a brief stint as a fantastic boosting wall with Stored Power, then immediately fell off, and Latios is stuck in its own eternal hell, as the base form is an excellent OU contender but the mega form is terrible and can't even fall to the tier below due to the base form's success.  Worse, their designs are bad.  I didn't think you could mess up with the color purple, but here we are.  It just looks off, and having the two share the exact same design feels lazy, even if they are meant to be "siblings" in a sense.  They deserved better than what they got.  Although, I do find it hilarious that the solution they had was to nerf Soul Dew.  Yeah, that'll make the megas relevant...  At least they were cool to ride around on, and served as a good introduction to Alola’s decision to remove HMs.  Which was the correct one.
6) Salamence - Pettiness.  That's all this is.  Mega Salamence is a mega that's almost too good, at least in Singles.  Intimidate in the base form means that massive defense stat is even harder to take on.  Without Ice coverage, you're done.  Base 120 speed, on top of access to Dragon Dance, means it's faster than pretty much everything.  Hell, it warped the meta so hard that Scarf Greninja became a thing.  And somehow never died off, despite being stupid. Salamence is a monster, and while the design is cool, the base form...really didn't need this kind of attention.  Salamence was already pretty good, and making it this ridiculous was honestly a bit of a problem.  It's one of the few times I agreed with Smogon's quick-ban decisions.
5) Charizard-X - In a similarly petty vein, I don't care for Zard-X.  I don't care for it, for the pettiest reason.  Why did Charizard get two mega forms?  There's no reason.  It's gen 1 favoritism pandering, that's all.  Sure, Charizard, you can get two megas while the other, more interesting starters only get 1.  We'll even make Blastoise' mega shitty, just for you.  It doesn't help that I like Zard-Y a lot better, so I have to see this as the one that should've been cut out.  It's just such a drain on resources.  This mega could've gone to anything else in the game.  Hell, if you really wanted to keep this one, then make Ninetales the mega with Drought. At least then she'd still have a use!
4) Mewtwo-X - Speak of the devil.  Mewtwo didn't need megas at all.  In fact, I'm a little pissed it got them at all.  Isn't the theory that megas in XY came from what Pokemon powered the cannon?  How would Mewtwo get a stone that resonates with it?  Regardless, the main issue is just that, like Charizard, it got two megas for no reason.  Again, just like Charizard, I see Mewtwo-Y as the correct mega form, so this one should not exist.  The end.
3) Scizor - The bottom 3 all have the same issue: being the same exact thing as their base form, and definitely not needing a mega.  Scizor was still a top dog at this point in the series.  It didn't need more power.  And what did they do? Gave it a mega that had minor stat increases across the board and took away a hold item, leading many at the time to insist that it was actually worse off than the base form.  With the rise of many powerful Fairy types that can still beat base Scizor, Mega Scizor has at least carved out a separate niche and maintained OU while Scizor dropped, but this does little to change my frustrations.  Mega Scizor has virtually identical abilities to base Scizor, and megas should function differently, or at least be a significant enough improvement that it feels distinct. Mega Scizor is neither of those things, and it bothers me tremendously.
2) Tyranitar - I think most people consider Mega Tyranitar worse than its base form.  This one really got hit by the lack of a hold item.  Assault Vest Tyranitar, in Sand, gets way more bulk than its mega form.  Choice Band Tyranitar has a lot more immediate damage behind it, and is a more effective Pursuit-trapper. Mega Tyranitar really just utilizes Dragon Dance more effectively due to a slightly higher speed, but with boosting being a requirement for most Pokemon, I don't feel like this is a solid enough niche.  It also retains exactly the same ability as base Tyranitar, giving it nothing to truly distinguish itself.  And all this, for a Pokemon that was already top dog.  Again, this could've gone to something that needed a mega.
1) Garchomp - What would you say is one of the most consistent top-tier threats in the game?  Honestly, probably Lando-T for me, but Garchomp isn't far behind, often picking up any popularity that Lando-T loses in minor meta shifts.  Garchomp is the toppest of dogs.  It did not need a mega at all, and should not have received one.  But it got one anyway.  It got one that, like Latios, is worse than its base form in pretty much every way.  Its ability is weather-dependent, so good luck with that, though at least it tried to do something different.  Its attack skyrocketed, but somehow isn't even as high as Mega Heracross.  But the loss of 10 points in speed really ruined what made Garchomp such a threat.   Boosting may be all-important nowadays, but Choice items have value for a reason.  Immediate power and speed has serious value, and Garchomp had a speed tier just above most common threats, including most XY megas.   Taking that away means now it has to worry about how many things will be guaranteed to outspeed it.  There may be a different story if Garchomp ever gets Dragon Dance, but if that happens it's probably going to Ubers anyway.  But the real takeaway is the question "Why would I use my mega slot on something that already OHKOs most threats it needs to KO, just for it to be slower and more prone to being KO'd itself?"  There are other options to consider, and Garchomp doesn't have any real utility as a mega.  There's no reason to use it over any other option, barring maybe Mega Latios, who might be even less useful.  Even Tyranitar can be argued to have some utility over this.  It is the embodiment of the problems with how megas were implemented, going to far too many threats that were already top-tier, offering insubstantial changes that did little to nothing or even hurting viability, and taking up resources from things that could've used it instead.

@wolfsskull OOH
cheras likes witty back and forth. she’s got a bit of a smart mouth so someone who has a thick skin and can fire something right back to put in her place really wins points. she’s a bit cryptic/enigmatic, esp about her family and life in hammerfell and stuff, so she really appreciates not pushing her to reveal stuff before she’s ready. in general she prefers to have the more dominant/provider role in the relationship. likes the idea of being the one looking out for and waiting on her princess gf (a little looser than that, but its the general gist)
at this point in her life, verónica’s really looking for someone who fits into the family unit. so someone who got along with ainsley appeales to her a lot. and family’s a big value for her in general; someone who doesn’t seem to care a lot about their family or family-like community isn’t someone she can picture herself with. applied to an even broader scale, compassion and a strong sense of duty is important to her. i think if she were to get into another relationship (i don’t actually think she’s ever had any serious ones with women, given how she came out later in life) it’d probably be with someone also of a military background (either having served themselves or with a lot of family involvement) bcos they’ve got a lot of common ground and ability to relate with each other.
on the physical side, decima absolutely loves short/shaved hair on women. she doesn’t wear it herself because she feels it masculinizes her appearance a lot, but she adores it on a partner. personality-wise, she really admires and appreciates drive and passion. if u have a specific goal or career path and u commit to it, that kind of knowing what u want to achieve is attractive to her. she, being an awkward mess, tends to appreciate when the other woman is just as awkward and blustery as she is. it makes her feel more at ease.
frost 100% has a physical type and that’s As Big And Butch As Possible. i think a definite majority, if not all of the women she’s ever dated have been orcs or trolls. (i don’t know if it’s necessarily a fetish, just that the characteristics she finds attractive are also the characteristics those races. i don’t even know where to begin analyzing race fetishism in universes with fantasy races. anyway, tho). i also think she’d definitely want to date another runner; the business and community is such a huge part of her life. frost’s got a pretty weird sense of humor, so any potential gf’s sense of humor would have to be compatible. at the same time, tho, she’s kind of the wacky one, and is attracted to the brusque and borderline gruff professional manner that you see in, say, eiger.
i honestly. don’t know for amélie. she’s so inexperienced and spent so much of her life in one very tight knit and very family-based community that she hasn’t done a lot of thinking about relationships other than an abstract “yeah, i’m pretty sure i don’t want to date a man.” i think she’d go for someone very bookish, nerdy, and indoorsy but not to the extent where they wouldn’t support her passions and skills. oh, and she adores curly hair.
if tancy existed in the modern world she’d just have this string of weird stoner hippie astrology hoe gfs. i guess you’d say she’s on a very particular wavelength, and anyone she’s dating needs to be on that same one. super chill, super low maintenance, super “whatever destiny decides for our relationship will happen”. honestly if ur down to eat really greasy food, make out a bit, and watch her sign furiously about her most recent vision or reading, then u’d be a good tancy kirix gf. (i haven’t thought much about whether she’d mainly/exclusively date girls who were also Deaf or not. would want to hear some input from irl Deaf folk on what their experiences have been dating wise.) (i think tancy’s poly?)
im only gonna say it once. If You Date Enid Manjon You Can’t Be A Fucking Pussy. shes fucking intense, and she needs someone equally intense. she’s got a lot of anger and unresolved hurt, and (regardless of whether or not it’s healthy) she’s attracted to those same things in other people. someone who’s on the same level as her not just emotionally but physically as well. a lot of enid’s life is fighting and combat, so if you’re her partner romantically ur also a partner in battle and a sparring partner when she needs it. i also feel like she’d primarily or exclusively date fellow force users.
del is, as we’ve established, Such A Good Fucking Person. shes into community service. i also think someone really involved in social justice/activism circles would appeal to her. doing the right thing, directing resources to those who need it, respect for the natural world. she really admires all of these.

✧ ・゚ ╮ ❛ BODY LANGUAGE !
how does your muse walk? on his tiptoes with a moderate pace, shorter strides, a gentle swing to his hips, and his arms swaying lightly. how does your muse talk? uses his hands in an animated fashion, and has a soft lisp that is only noticeable occasionally. prefers not to swear too much. what accent/dialect does your muse talk with? born & raised with a gyeongsang dialect due to being from changwon city, but has reasonably adapted to the gyeonggi dialect after relocating to seoul with his mother. while speaking english, he has a korean accent. how high ( or low ) is the tone of their voice? natural tenor range; medium-high. are they loud or quiet? soft-spoken & quiet; has a difficult time projecting his voice. what is their laugh like? many would call it ‘cute’ due to it’s lighthearted, giggle-like sound. it is nowhere near loud, but it’s rhythmic and sweet like a little bell. how does your muse typically smell? his desired colognes are sweet, fresh scents. he avoids anything musky or too stereotypically masculine. he’s extremely hygienic and makes sure to wear deodorant before leaving the house, as well as showering every single day to ensure cleanliness. he never smells bad, ever. that’s his worst nightmare. what kind of air do they carry? meek and small. it would be hard to notice him if it weren’t for his tastes in fashion, or his bright smile. he’s pretty shy, and it’s easy to tell. are they intimidating? not in the slightest bit.
✧ ・゚ ╮ ❛ PSYCHOLOGY !
what makes your muse happiest? seeing those he loves smile; knowing that they’re all safe, and sound, and pleased. additionally, he loves making new friends. taking breaks of alone-time to restore energy is equally important, too, as he’s introverted. what upsets them most? seeing those that he loves sad; loneliness, and not being involved in a romantic relationship; homophobic slurs; being taken advantage of. does your muse have any quirks? rocks back and forth on feet while standing still. plays with his lips when he’s lost in thought. absent-mindedly hums to whatever song is stuck in his head. has a tendency to look at his feet while speaking to strangers. what are their hobbies? he loves fashion and going shopping is one of the things he loves to do whenever he has some extra cash. additionally, he quite enjoys video games, primarily pokémon, and still purchases the new games, etc. whenever they’re released. moreover, he loves to cook, and testing out new recipes are some things he loves, too. how often can / do they do them? as often as his school schedule allows him to. a couple of times per week for video games and cooking, less frequently for shopping. do they have any guilty pleasures? he can watch fail videos on youtube for hours on end. is your muse an extrovert, or an introvert? a definite introvert. his mbti is infp. do they have high or low self-esteem? in all honesty, it’s a bit low, but that’s actively something that he’s working on. he knows he needs to be a bit more assertive, it’s just something that’s quite difficult for him. what about confidence? in some aspects, yes. he feels at his best when he’s dressed to the nines and talking to people he’s comfortable with. however, when it comes to anything new, he does feel a bit timid and it often takes him awhile to come around. are they easily stressed? not really. he’s very good at remaining calm through trying times. how do they respond to stress? he’s learned a variety of tactics in therapy that have helped him combat stress really well. he either plays a video game, reads a book, takes a long shower, or writes down his worries to put them into perspective. he handles it well. what is your muse’s worst fear? losing the people he loves. what is your muse’s biggest dream? reopening the restaurant his father had back in changwon city, and hopefully, a second location in seoul. that, and starting a fashion line. is your muse an early riser, or a night owl? he looooves sunrises, and prefers to get up in time the witness them each and everyday. he’s good about falling asleep at a reasonable hour, so i’d definitely say he’s more an early riser than a night owl. how intelligent is your muse, and do they acknowledge it? he’s fairly intelligent, but isn’t necessarily cocky about it. he used to get made fun of for being so smart in school, so he’d play dumb in order to escape bullying. he definitely has more common sense than academic talent, though, so while he’s smart, he’s no genius. what is their sense of humor like? he really likes obvious humor found in most cartoons and children’s series. more nsfw jokes fly right over his head, he doesn’t understand them all too well. he’s also a really big fan of bad pickup lines, and horrible puns.
✧ ・゚ ╮ ❛ RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES !
what’s their sexual orientation? he’s a true homosexual. he’s tried dating women in the past, as he once thought he could get attached to them and treat them well, but he was often very unfulfilled in those relationships. he has a strict attraction to men, and is out and proud of it now. he knows its still a tender subject in korea, but that doesn’t stop him much from sharing his truth, even if he has to go out of his way to feel super comfortable. what about romantic? homoromantic, definitely. he wants to have a husband and a family someday soon if korea ever legalizes gay marriage and allows same-sex couples to adopt. what is their experience with relationships? very little to almost none. he’s never had a serious relationship or a boyfriend, but he wants one VERY badly. how does your muse view the idea of friends with benefits? i feel like he understands how other people could do that with no issue, but he’s afraid that if he tried that, he’d get far too attached and it’d leave the other person uncomfortable. however, he’s willing to try it out once or twice to see how it goes for him. he’d just have to give the other a disclaimer. have they ever had an fwb, or would they ever? he’s never had one, and he’s open to it, but still quite timid about the idea. he’s never had sex before, so he’d want it to be with someone that he deeply trusted; someone that he knew cared about him. sex, is it important to your muse? yes, it is. he’s never had it, but his sex drive is quite strong for being such a shy person. he just isn’t open with it. not only that, but he views sex as something that should be shared between he and the person he’s having it with ONLY, and that it should be meaningful, so he takes it very seriously. what are their biggest turn ons and turn offs? his biggest absolute turn on is ROMANCE. he wants to become one with his sexual partner above all else. he also loves it when a man is more dominant than he is since he lacks that ability. as far as appearances are concerned, he loves a taller man that’s quite classically handsome that has great style, amazing hygiene, and isn’t afraid to love him publicly. he’s a fan of strong legs, and round butts, too. as far as turn offs are concerned, he’d hate someone that was too forceful with him, as well as someone who didn’t take care of themselves in the slightest bit. he’d also be uncomfortable with someone that drank too heavily and didn’t have any control over it. does your muse find it easy to make friends? with females, absolutely! he really gets on well with girls as he’s been around them for most of his life. with males, he has some reservations. he’s been screwed over by them many times, so he’s more timid around them. however, being that he’s gay, that is something he’s trying to get over as fast as possible. how important is friendship to them? extremely important. he wants to make sure that he can be there for people, as well as call on them when he needs them, too. quantity or quality of friends? definitely quality. he doesn’t care if he only has ONE true friend, that’d be enough for him so long as they were good to him. how important is family? they’re normally his number one priority. he’s always there for his mother and his grandmother. he’d do anything to help them out, no matter what. are they close to their family? taehan is very close to his mother and grandmother. he holds them so close after the tragedy that happened to his father. he knows the pain of losing someone so special to him, and makes sure he spends lots of them with them.
✧ ・゚ ╮ ❛ HEADCANONS !
001. he often gets caught daydreaming all day, everyday. it happens especially whenever he sees attractive men in public. he often wonders what they’d be like as lovers, and his romanticism takes his mind on a journey as to what a relationship with them would entail. 002. he falls asleep really easily, especially on long car rides, train rides, flights, and during films. people often hate taking him to the cinema because he always passes out halfway through whatever movie they watch. it’s just something that he can’t help at all. 003. he has a collection of pokémon cards that he still adds to. he has about 12 binders full, but he hides them in his room because he’s scared people will think he’s too childish. 004. his favorite colors are pastels, primarily anything rosy, beige, or golden.  005. his favorite foods are seafood sundubu-jjigae, sashimi, sushi, dubu jorim, and pajeon. he also enjoys european cuisine, so long as there are vegetarian options. 006. lots of his friends ask him to help choose outfits, do makeup, etc. due to his aesthetically pleasant nature, and wide interest in color theory, etc.

20 Character Design Questions
A blend of RP & writing/story characters, as requested (and as applicable).
-----
🕸 1. Who’s the oldest character of yours that you still use?
Davin & Co. from the House of Lazarus books are like 13 years old now, which is mind-boggling. A lot of things about them have changed (like making them zombies), but at their core the Davin/Randy/Zoe dynamic hasn’t changed much at all since the first time I ever tried to write a story about them.
But here’s a fun fact: Davin actually pre-dates that by a couple of years. He was ORIGINALLY designed for a very short-lived RP circa ~2000-ish. When I got a novel idea in college, I snagged the first available semi-fleshed-out-character I had in order to test it, and he just kind of stuck around and grew from there.
⭐️ 2. Who’s the oldest character of yours, defunct or not?
Does my imaginary friend from childhood count? Because I wrote a (terrible) book about her when I was 9, so I feel like that should count ;) Her name was Tinky and she was a ‘tigercat’ and family members can confirm that I was talking about her (and blaming things on her) by the age of 2.
💡 3. Has creating a character ever made you realize something about yourself?
Not exactly. It’s more like, sometimes a character will help me understand something that I never thought I would sympathize with - like where certain types of people are coming from, why they do certain things. Character creation has become in some ways an act of empathy.
🦋 4. Any minor characters that have either taken over or branched off into their own stories?
Frequently. Most memorably, Jetak (from Nezumi’s Children) demands a sequel. There’s a tie-in planned for his story, although it may be a bit delayed because the market for more Nezumi books just isn’t that huge (although the handful of fans I have are rabid, and I love them <3) but it’s definitely going to happen.
🐲 5. Do you prefer to make human, animal, monster, or _____ characters? Why?
My RP roots are all animal characters (sparkle dogs ftw!) and they come to me pretty naturally. That was another thing that was fun about Nezumi’s Children, it was such a lovely guilty pleasure writing these rat characters - such a callback to my younger years.
But for purposes of my serious writing, I pretty much have to stick to humans, or at least humanoid variations.
🎨 6. When creating a character, do you come up with the visual concept or the written concept first?
A little of both, to be honest. Usually I’ll have a vague idea of a concept in mind, and will play around with a dollmaker or look at stock photos or something similar until the idea “clicks” in my head. Until I put some kind of visual to them, they’re not quite real.
📌 7. Do you have characters that you know you’ll never use, but can’t bear to get rid of/recycle?
Whole stacks of them ;) Mostly they just roam around in the back of my mind, and sometimes I’ll think “Oh man, what if so-and-so did this?” and daydream about it for a bit before getting on with my day. A lot of books-I-probably-will-never-write percolate back there, too, so every so often I’ll get flashes of an idea and it just sort of makes me smile before I go back to doing whatever I need to do with my day.
💖 8. Is there a character that embodies your good traits, or traits you wish you had?
I like to think that Ulryk, my wolf-guardian, is all the best parts of myself: loyal, patient, self-assured, calm, logical, doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s an old, old character too. I think I’ve had him around since I was 11, and maybe one day I’ll actually have a story I can properly use him in.
💔9. Is there a character that embodies your bad traits? Several characters? Which ones and what traits?
I have a tendency to create a certain type of villain - a string-pulling mastermind who works in the shadows and gently manipulates stronger people into doing his bidding. It’s probably my favorite villain trope, and I have several characters who fit the bill. And it is absolutely a personification of many of my, uh, less than savory INTJ mastermind traits.
♨️ 10. Is there a character that explores your interests or fetishes (orrrr is that just all of you characters)?
In an RP setting, once I’m comfortable with the world and have made the “obvious” characters for the community, I will invariably start making characters because I want to explore something about a particular type of person or situation. I find something to be interesting, and I want to play with it and tease out its themes and explore it.
✒️ 11. If you have characters that embody certain traits of yours—good or bad—has writing them changed how you view those traits? Has it affected you in any way?
I think I’ve grown more accepting of many parts of myself, by falling in love with characters who reflect some of those things. I think I’ve always felt a little bit of pressure to be a certain way, to do certain things, and having characters who go against that - but who are still lovable, still interesting - has helped make me more comfortable in my skin. That’s kind of a weirdly “feel good” answer from someone who writes seriously dark shit a lot of the time, but it’s the truth.
💭 12.  Do you fantasize about being any of your characters, or are you more detached?
Nah. I wouldn’t want to be any of these people, especially if some asshole like me were pulling the strings. Bad things happen to my characters. And most of them are pretty broken or dysfunctional or damaged. Which is true, I guess, of most people too.
🎵 13. Do you create playlists for your characters?
I make playlists for writing projects - specific books/stories will have playlists that represent whole plotlines and aesthetics. Individual characters usually only get one real theme song, sometimes a couple.
The House of Lazarus playlist can be found here. Davin’s theme song has always been “Walking In My Shoes” by Depeche Mode.
🎇 14. When writing for specific characters, is there anything you have to do to get into the right mindset?
Not usually. If they’re characters I’m familiar with, I can generally slip into them pretty easily. If I’m writing, I usually have the appropriate playlist up, which helps bring me back to the story. If I haven’t touched a project in a while, reading over old work will help get me back into it.
Certain characters I have to avoid playing at certain times, though, because they’re emotionally difficult to deal with. Curiously, it’s never that my darker characters bring me into dark places; it’s always that, if I’m in a bad headspace, I just can’t play some of my more happy-go-lucky characters properly.
🌻 15. Which character is your guilty pleasure?
I don’t think I necessarily feel ‘guilty’ about any of my characters (the entire notion of “guilty pleasure” is kind of weird, imo) but I have a few characters I probably enjoy playing more than I should. Lately my changeling Sluagh Charlotte has been that for me. She is just such a mess, and so psychologically screwed up, in such utterly fascinating and terrible ways.
🌩 16. Is there a character of yours who’s a real struggle to write/draw? Why do you think that is?
I actually have two RP characters who I have an incredibly hard time writing, which is funny because 1.) they’re favorites of the friends I play them with and 2.) they’re really not particularly complex or psychologically difficult characters.
One of them is Bee, who is part of a sibling group I play with @leapinghart. Bee is self-confident, utterly lacking in self-awareness, and optimistic to the point of self-delusion. She’s also not that bright.
The other is Jadin, who I play with @comicreliefmorlock in her World of Darkness-inspired city, Brandenburg. He’s kind of the universe’s butt-monkey, the kind of guy who just keeps landing in shit, and he suffers from a lot of foot-in-mouth disease from saying exactly the wrong thing.
In both cases, I always struggle with keeping the characters true to themselves without letting them stray too far into joke territory.
🔑 17. Which character is the easiest to draw/write?
Any of my ‘evil mastermind’ guys, but only if I’m in a position where I actually get to pull strings - a piece of my own fiction, or a pre-plotted RP. They’re incredibly stressful to play in an open-world RP type scenario because you can never count on other players to acknowledge your character’s intelligence, insight, or charisma.
For an individual character, my girl Lungaia - in any of her myriad forms - is super easy to slip into. We have a lot in common, and I’ve been playing her (a LOT, she’s a “favorite toy”) for like 15 years, so in a lot of ways she’s really kind of my murderous, psychic, tight-lipped alter-ego. It also helps that she has a very easy design, so she’s easy to doodle and commission artwork of as well.
💎 18. Is there anything you really wish you could do, character-design-wise, that you feel is outside your current skillset? A concept that you wish you could pull off but are uncertain about?
As stupid as it sounds, I’m really jealous of people who can pull off the happy-go-lucky characters. That’s never been my wheel-house.
🏆 19. What’s more important to you: visual design, unique personality, a trendy character aesthetic, etc? If you’re not sure, then what’s the first thing you usually nail down in a character?
Story arc. Whether I’m RPing or writing a book, if I create a character what I am MOST interested about is understanding who these people are, and where they might end up, and how they could get from A to B. I’m interested in characters who embody natural conflict, whose design is itself conflicted, because of the story potential.
For example, Lungaia: She’s female, but a physically powerful warrior. She’s literally compelled to violence by the demon that lives inside of her, but also has a tendency to take in strays - she’s surrounded by weak, broken, damaged people whom she cares about deeply. She can read minds but still always says the wrong thing. She’s a mess. and that makes her interesting and full of story potential.
🎬 20. Do you ever plan to do anything (comic, animation, etc) with your characters? Or are you just happy to have them?
All of my characters pretty much exist either as part of a story idea that will get written (one of these days), or as a creation for a specific RP scenario. Sometimes the forgotten, abandoned RP characters luck out and get dusted off to shine in the novels (*coughs and points at Davin*).

“so break me down if it makes you feel right.”
if you’re a girl, do you have big hips? too big? not really. when was the last time you had alcohol? what kind? yesterday. black cherry mike's hard lemonade. girls, do you think you look good in dresses or not? some with sleeves, sure. do your parents treat you like you’re still a child? sometimes. what is the one stereotype people label you as most? i get emo a lot. i really don't care what stereotype i am. can people normally tell your mood, by your facial expression? yeah, honestly. i am SHIT at hiding my emotions. what are the initials of your last ex/ bf or gf? jar. how're you on this fine day? i'm at the tail end of a bad, bad, baaad panic attack. i went to bed crying last night and woke up a while ago; i couldn't sleep. i talked to my long-time friend jurro, who always has great advice to give me. they brought up the possibility of me having bpd (which has been brought up to me before), especially with my obvious favoritism towards jason. i read more about it, and i really think it's a liable diagnosis, and i guess that gave me some relief? i'm going to bring it up to my therapist, who i really need to see soon. describe the main problem with your last relationship? i've explained this so many times, yet i feel the need to keep fucking talking about it. the only real issue was jason not supporting me enough. by that i mean, he got tired of my depression. he didn't want to deal with it anymore. not that i blame him. i live with it and i don't want to deal with it anymore, but guess who can't leave it without destroying herself? if he truly gave a shit, it should've been the same for him. for so long, three and a half fucking years, he was there, and he did everything he could. then he just... snapped one day, i guess. so fucking sorry i'm too weak to make it on my own. what was the last thing that offended you? i'm not sure, honestly. probably something colleen said. what’s on your shower curtain? nothing. it's blank. what sounds do you hear? "alone i break" by korn is playing, and the tv's on. who was the newest addition to your family? ryder, my sister's son, is the newest, i believe. do you like muse? i like a few songs. "unnatural selection" is my SHIT. what was your first ever pet? we had a collie named trigger. she was a wonderful dog. have you ever been bit by an animal? never viciously, no. i remember once my lizard bit me when he was scared once (his light had been dead all day, so he was freezing), but it was barely even a nibble. i think i've told of the time my dog teddy bit towards me in a merely very "i'm warning you" type way. where is the person you miss the most right now? i would hope he's in bed asleep. how often do you take naps? every day, usually... typically after i'm up for an hour or less, i feel fucking exhausted and go back to sleep lol. are you planning any special outings with family or friends? not any "outings," but on saturday, the day before my birthday, mom and i are going to colleen's and i, for one, am getting drunk as fuck to forget some shit for a while. do you ever wear lipstick? what color(s) do you prefer? yes, i wear black, usually. what was the last alcoholic drink you tried for the first time? smirnoff. it was okay. what’s your favorite feature of the person you’re currently interested in? his silly smile melts my fucking heart. the last song you listened to - does it remind you of anyone?   two or three times, lmao.  oh wait no, one of those times is where it fell on the propane tank beside our house (it didn't explode, it was literally inches from the top of it, though).  the only time i clearly remember a tree falling on the house is when the tree collapsed literally on top of my room, and i slept through it.  dad had to saw the tree multiple times to get it off the house, and we had to get some leaks patched. do you know anyone that actually looks good wearing bright red lip stick?   i don't think i look too bad with it. if you were poor, living on the streets, & had no family to aid you, would you take up a job offer to work in a slaughterhouse?   i... maybe.  living on the streets has to be a literal nightmare, so i doubt a slaughterhouse would be much worse... but killing animals, i would literally cry on a daily basis.  i don't know if i could do it. do you feel sorry for the people who get killed by their pets [some people own / tend to monkeys, tigers, lions, snakes, etc. & get killed by them] or do you think they had it coming?   ... i feel that way, yeah.  my older half-siblings i don't feel that way, 'cuz they live forever away and have busy, adult lives, and even ashley is very busy, but nicole, who lives with me... i feel like she doesn't care.  she's never home and acts like she lives with her good-for-nothing boyfriend, and when she is here, she doesn't talk to me.  doesn't look at me.  never says a word to me, even when she knows i need comfort.  she doesn't interact with me period unless i initiate conversation.  i just.  feel like when she/me/we move out, we'll never talk again.  i don't want to lose my little sister. what were the last three movies you watched in theaters?   not much at all...  sat on the computer.  talked to a couple online friends.  talked with colleen.  cried a lot. something you really want right now?   honestly all i want is to cuddle with j right now.  underneath a big, fleecy blanket, and just watch our old, favorite shows. do you look more like your mom or your dad?   debatable.  i've heard both. describe your looks to us:   i am 5'4'', white and very pale, overweight with my weight pretty evenly distributed, i have lithe hands with long fingers and very small toes.  i have blue eyes that sometimes look more greenish or grayish.  my ears are pierced multiple times, as well as my nose.  i have three tattoos.  my hair just reaches my breasts and is ruby-red in coloration.  how i dress varies greatly. could you forgive a boyfriend or friend who physically hurt you?   no, fuck you. are you afraid of death?   i am.  i'm most concerned about how badly it'll hurt/how i'll die. do you think you’ll be one of those people that will get a divorce in the future?   no, because i'd literally refuse to leave my spouse unless he became dangerous. last person you kissed on the lips said that you were the only one they wanted, would you believe them?   if he leaves his current girlfriend, sure. are thongs sexy?   not to me... but then again, i'm not attracted to feminine garb. is penetration important to you?   considering i was fine doing purely foreplay with jason/having no penal-vaginal penetration, no, it's not very important. what is your sexuality?   i am heterosexual, but have some asexual tendencies, ex. i am not physically attracted to male genitalia. do you prefer long or short hair on the opposite sex?   long is fucking sexy. would you rather have 10 siblings or be an only?   ten.  that'd be cool. what is your opinion on legalizing drugs?   it's fucking stupid to even mildly consider it.  i know a lot of people think it will lessen crime with drugs, but ha, i HIGHLY doubt it.  besides that, why legalize something dangerous?  murder's wrong, should we legalize that shit, too?  and i mean, we already have enough controversy over things like cigarettes and alcohol, two very dangerous things, why add another to the mix? do you drink coffee on a regular basis?   no, i hate coffee. do you like country music?   no, i don't.  it's very rare that once in a while i'll hear a song i like, but it's seldom. are you afraid of black cats?   not at all. do you watch the lightning during storms?   omgggg yes what is the weirdest thing you have ever done with a crush or significant other?   i guess you could consider borderline fucking on a chaise in the open living room "weird?"  but shit was fun. do you shave your arms even though it supposedly grows back thick?   i shave my underarms, not my arms. do you ever get too lazy to clean up your pet’s pee and leave it for your parents to do it?   no, if teddy pees, i clean it up. what insects or bugs do you fear most?   rhinoceros beetles are fucking terrifying, praying mantises are kinda scary... i also just don't like beetles in general. do you think weed is just as bad as cigarettes?   it's worse.  it's been proven to have more carcinogens. who taught you to drive, and were you happy with their approach?   my driver's ed teacher was mr... cone, i think?  he was fine.  besides him, mom taught me to drive, and she was waaaay too strict/yelled a lot. do you get seasick or carsick?   carsick, no.  seasick, i'm not entirely sure.  i've only been on a boat on the ocean once, and it was my anxiety that nearly made me puke. is sex on your mind more than 3 times a day? what has been the most traumatic experience of your life? does it still bother you?   by far, jason leaving me.  and obviously, as i've been diagnosed with ptsd because of it. was your last kiss drunk or sober?   i've never kissed someone while drunk, so. have your lips ever gone numb from kissing?   lmao, that's possible?  i've kissed for hours on end and have never experienced that. why did you first kiss the last person you kissed?  to have all your flesh ripped away, leaving you bare and vulnerable?  that's what it felt like. do movies such as ‘saw’ and ‘the grudge’ scare you easily?   "the grudge" is a fucking awesome movie (think i've only seen the second, tho), but i'm not a "saw" fan.  i just... eh, they're too bloody.  to an exaggerated degree.  and i don't like seeing people so scared. do you have an ipod? how many songs are on it?   yes, and over 1,000.  i sometimes have to delete songs to make room for more. how do you get to school?   i'm not in school anymore, but when i was, mom always drove me there. would you ever consider adopting a child with a severe mental illness?   i don't really want to adopt period, but i don't know if hypothetically i would, but merely for the child's own well-being.  i am seriously mentally ill, and because of this, i don't really know if i'm capable of raising said child in a completely healthy environment. gas prices...first thought?   lower than they used to be, at least.  i remember when they were over $4.00 favorite non sexual thing to do with girl/boy?   play two-player video games together. :D
