Space didn’t understand how someone who’d supposedly grown up waging imperialistic warfare, who hadn’t been given meaningful life choices beyond “fight or be executed” until he’d fought his way free, who had slaughtered a dozen alien death-bugs with a berserker laugh and then swept Space up into a biting kiss, bloody hands slick on Space’s flank and teeth sharp against his throat, could still be so ridiculously, foolishly sweet.

Phosa & Linast are magical constructs who are slowly learning what kind of people they want to be.

Diamond is a former neurosurgeon turned mage who has some mistakes he's trying to fix.

Clemcy is an evil body-snatching healer, and I will be more selective about playing him.

Fantasy with some sci-fi flavor. Safe for work, but may deal with heavy themes. Highly suited to crossovers so long as an in-character multiverse can be accepted.

Eikhosalin, a fusion between Elk, Wiki, Linast, and Phosa (from @justashadetalkative )

I think this is the most characters I’ve put into a single fusion and I am very happy with the result!

We also talked a bit about what their personality would be like: responsibly impulsive, cautious and practical while loving to try new things. All four of them love exploring new places, and we’ve dimension travelers, a supertemporal being, and a kind-of-god in there, so they might just end up being obsessed with exploring all time and space of the multiverse.

Ventro Frill Concept | 2-22-24

Trying to update Ventro’s design! I’ve never been happy with his frill design in the past. I’m not…. entirely certain if this quite hits the mark, but it’s at least better than it was!

On his original homeworld of Mars and in his original timeline, Diamond was an embittered former neurosurgeon who had found a new career as a QA coordinator at a cybernetics firm. He met Clemcy in the depths of his disillusionment; Clemcy offered to heal Diamond’s dysfunctional telepathy, and to teach him magic as well, in exchange for Diamond’s financial and technical support on his own projects.

Diamond took the deal, and several years of embezzlement and illegal experimentation followed. The two of them got along quite well with one another… so long as Diamond ignored Clemcy’s treatment of other people and the sneaking suspicion that this was not a deal that he could ever back out of safely.

(He eventually proved himself right. Having gotten what he wanted from Clemcy, and after discovering some of Clemcy’s lies and least savory pursuits, Diamond confronted him. In response to the perceived betrayal, Clemcy mutilated and killed Diamond for the first time.)

Detailed image description:

Diamond is illustrated once clean-shaven and with short hair, but otherwise, he is illustrated with long hair and a short, narrow beard framing his jaw. He occasionally has a thin strip of dyed or bleached hair at his forelock. In portraits and busts he is illustrated with tired or mildly irritated expressions. In one sequence of full-body illustrations he is shown with a sharp, somewhat mocking smile.

Diamond is illustrated in both his original Martian storyline as well as a contemporary AU. His Martian medical ID tag is a token with glowing yellow lines resembling stylized sutures; his contemporary AU ID is a medallion with a blue star of life symbol. He sometimes wears a thin black choker and black nail polish in either setting.

Diamond is illustrated in some busts with a pale blue turtleneck, in one waist-up image in a maroon blouse with puffy sleeves and three-quarters length cuffs, and in a sequence of full-body illustrations showing him in his underclothes and two outfits. These show:

In his Martian body, Diamond has very faint top surgery scars and a moderate amount of chest and body hair. He is not drawn shirtless in the contemporary AU.

A semiformal Martian outfit consists of a long-sleeved white undershirt, a dark blue tunic with ice blue trim and a wrap around his waist, loose black breeches, tall brown boots with no visible clasps or ties, a glowing wrist band, and a glowing drop earring.

A casual contemporary outfit consists of a pink mock-neck shirt, a very dark brown jean jacket, pale tan pants, hiking shoes, and small silver earrings.

I do enjoy coming up with incarnations for Diamond, hah. Particularly fond of the teacher incarnation.

(Diamond was trans in his original incarnation, which shaped his gender experience. But I’m using the translucent flag to indicate incarnations that happen to be AMAB.)

Abime Spire

          The Spire is an enormous building constructed within a pocket dimension. As such, it doesn’t technically exist in any one universe and can touch almost any realm. It was originally intended to be able to support a self-contained city with many thousands of inhabitants. But the magic that was used to create it was poorly understood by its creators, and has led to consequences that none of them intended.

         The Spire is not, in fact, a safe haven between worlds and a pathway to free exploration; it has instead turned into a vortex which never releases that which it touches. Visitors to the Spire are bound to it, body and soul, and many must spend the majority of their time within it or face debilitating side-effects.

         The inhabitants of the Spire who have already been trapped are doing their best at damage control, and so far there are fewer than 1,000 people bound to the Spire. It’s an unusual life. Some resources are scarce at times, and the realm itself can seem cold and isolating. Fights are also not uncommon, be they between disagreeing members of the Spire or attacks from outside forces.

Population & Locations

Full time population (500) vs. part-time population (150):

People are bound to the Spire to varying degrees; some only need to visit it once every few months or so, while others must spend most of their time there, or can’t leave the realm too many times in a row.

Some people also choose to live in the Spire full-time even if they don’t necessarily need to.

Upper levels & the habitat dome:

500 people in such an enormous tower means that the vast majority of the place is more or less abandoned. The main population is concentrated in the upper levels and habitat dome.

The Spire has many places scattered throughout it that simulate the outdoors, and the habitat dome is the largest of these spaces. Its grounds are mostly dedicated to park and garden areas, but there are also several buildings: a few caretaker houses, a small theater, a public bathhouse, and some apartment and viewing towers.

Lower levels:

The lower levels in the main neck of the Spire are minimally inhabited. Some people prefer to live “rurally,” and there are also a few small independent communities that prefer to manage their own affairs.

There are also some folk who actively avoid the main populace of the Spire for one reason or another. (Clemcy’s forces, for example, had taken over part of the lower levels prior to Clemcy’s truce with the Spire leadership.)

The ascent:

This part of the Spire is largely abandoned, and partly unformed in some ways. Space here can get a bit malleable—intentionally so. It was meant to be fully designed at a later date in response to population growth or specific environmental and atmospheric needs.

As it is, pathways and rooms form in loose response to a combination of someone’s subconscious expectations, the procedural generation parameters that were hardwired into the Spire during its creation, and the alien motivations of the Spire itself. They can dissipate just as quickly.

It’s very easy to misplace things, but not as easy to get lost as one might fear—if you think you’re making your way back to the normal levels, you probably will be.

Escape bunker:

The bunker has no permanent residents, but it is regularly maintained and contains a portion of the Spire’s agricultural efforts. In an emergency, the entire bunker can be teleported to another realm, taking anyone within it along for the ride and providing resources and shelter in the new world.

It’s been used for this purpose a few times. Bringing it back to the Spire has been a pretty major production each time.

Defense rails:

These contain automated defense systems, wards, and rapid transit tubes to provide shelter and transportation for some of the Spire’s defense personnel and drones.

The depths:

If the ascent is intentionally formless, the depths are very unintentional in their amorphous nature. They were an unexpected product of the Spire’s procedural generation. The Spire’s realm used to have a defined ground surface, but it… very much does not, now. There’s just the Spire and the depths.

Space gets very malleable in the depths, and they have been only minimally explored. Some strange creatures have taken up residence there. So far, most attempts at communication have failed.

Dalgiroth says that the space is “interesting” and refuses to help make it more habitable for normal mortals.
