Marx's dynamics with Gooey and the Animal Friends
I've got a lot of thoughts on how Marx interacts with these guys! Basically, I embrace the idea of wave 1 dream friends being close friends with each other, and Gooey technically already has some canonical association with the animal friends. So all I had to do was throw Marx into the mix with them somehow!
I think he actually fits decently well with them! Allow me to share all the headcanons I have of Marx's friendships with these guys.
Tumblr media
Inserting 'Keep reading tag' because it's long.
Marx was gone from Planet Popstar for a very long time after Milky Way Wishes. It's only several months before Star Allies when he makes his grand return to the planet to reconcile with Kirby.
After their reconciliation, Kirby then went to help Marx make new friends. Before Marx's return to Popstar, his only friend was Magolor. Kirby wanted to see how some of his other friends would put up with Marx, and if any of them would be willing to be Marx's friends as well.
That's where Gooey and the animal friends came in. Kirby introduced Marx to these guys before introducing him to anyone else. The reason for this is because Gooey and the animal friends are generally a very forgiving bunch, and they were quick to forgive the entire wave 3 trio after their respective incidents. Kirby remembered this, and so he figured they'd be quick to accept Marx as a friend as well.
And accept him as a friend they did. Once they've spent enough time with him, they think he's the funniest person in existence. They really like him. In return, he likes them a lot, and is delighted that they're often willing to join him into doing some tomfoolery sometimes.
After Magolor and Kirby, these guys are the next friends that Marx has made, and they're rather special to him because of that.
Gooey and the animal friends all like some mischief themselves as they're all rather on the silly side, and they're more level-headed than most of the others in the cast as they don't really get easily pissed off. This is what allows them to take well to Marx and his shenanigans.
They don't mind getting pranked by him, they're entertained by it! Marx can prank them in ways that would be considered 'too far' for many others. Some of the animal friends even choose to mess with him back, much to his delight! He loves it when that happens.
That being said, however, Gooey and the animal friends do have their standards and would stop Marx if they think he's crossing a line. We'll go over more on that later, but let's go over how Marx interacts with each and every one of these guys individually!
Gooey is basically Marx's buddy, lol. Marx really likes Gooey. He thinks Gooey is hilarious, and he's nicer to Gooey than he is to most others. Marx will often bounce on Gooey like he's one of his beach balls. He also has a nickname for the dark matter defect, as he calls him 'Goobert'. Gooey loves Marx and considers him to be fun to hang out with. He constantly laughs at Marx's funny business.
Marx often hypes Gooey up and tries to teach him to pull pranks. Gooey is usually a very nice and well-meaning person, but he's also not very smart and often lets himself be taught by Marx how to prank because he thinks it'll be very fun and entertaining!
There are occasions where Gooey ends up emulating Marx's bad behavior, with perhaps the most notable example being that Marx will come up to random unsuspecting people and say "Hey, hey, hey! I think he wants you to give him a big kiss!" causing Gooey to come up and lick that person. Whenever this kind of thing happens, Gooey does apologize to that person later on and said it was just for fun.
Rick is fairly outgoing and likes to move around a lot, and so he's often glad to join Marx in going around and starting some sillies! There are times where Marx would let Rick balance a beach ball on his nose, and he'd even try to bounce on the beach ball during it.
There are other times where Rick would turn into a big rolling stone (his stone ability in Dream Land 3, as he can use any time since he can use it in Star Allies too) and Marx would then leap on top of him to cause some rolling mischievous madness. When they go rick-rolling around, they may crash onto trees for kicks and giggles.
Marx may also try to mimic Rick's accent, and the hamster of course doesn't mind that. Yes, literally, my headcanon universe's Rick has an Australian accent just like the Rick from the Kirby anime, lol.
Kine is very goofy and is a big joke-teller. He and Marx exchange funny talk a lot. It's enriching for the both of them. They'll make funny faces at each other, too. Marx thinks that Kine is the funniest fish to exist, and when he learned about how the animal friends combined copy abilities with Kirby, he thought that Kine was the one that performed the funniest copy ability combinations out of the bunch. He laughed when he learned that Kine had light bulbs in his mouth, shot fireballs underwater, and stuffed a big rock inside of himself.
There are times where Marx would have Kine stuff a beach ball in his mouth, to then later cannonball out of his mouth to cause mischief. They coordinate doing this on random unsuspecting people.
Coo sometimes enjoys doing aerial tomfoolery with Marx. The two like to fly around to cause some minor mischief. Marx may spit beach balls out of his mouth for Coo to slap with his wings to hit random unsuspecting people. What makes this especially funny for the two of them is that if the balls hit random people from far away because they did high in the air, those people will never know who caused it.
That being said, Coo is also the most serious of the animal friends. Out of them, he's the one that puts the most effort in keeping Marx in check. If Marx crosses a line, Coo is the first animal friend to stop him. Coo himself doesn't mind tomfoolery every now and then, but he quickly knows when to stop if things get out of hand. He'll give Marx the look when he deems it necessary to.
Marx thinks it's funny to sometimes trigger Coo into giving him the look just for the sake of it. He likes Coo quite a lot.
Nago is the laziest and least talkative of the animal friends, and therefore is the one to join Marx in tomfoolery the least often out of the bunch. He still enjoys the jester's company, though. He's easily amused by his antics. There's also this thing that Marx and Nago have going on where Nago will steal Marx's beach ball, causing them to playfight, and Nago just tells Marx to go make another beach ball or go use Gooey as a ball to bounce on.
ChuChu thinks that Marx is hysterically funny, and she's bold enough to even start shit with him. Marx and ChuChu have this thing going on where they're weirdly fixated on stealing each other's bows. One will try to pull a fast one on the other to find an opportunity to steal their bow, with ChuChu using one of her tentacles to yank Marx's small bow off his chest, while he steals her big bow off her head.
Marx also started teasing ChuChu for her liking of Kirby when he first found out about it. This got reactions out of her at first until she eventually started taking well to it and even laughs when he does it.
Pitch is a devious little turd that's also not afraid to start stuff with Marx. These two like to bicker for kicks and giggles, and sometimes it's Pitch that initiates it. They both consider it to be enriching. Pitch is actually Marx's favorite out of the animal friends, because he thinks it's hilarious how much of a troll the little bird can be sometimes.
Pitch and ChuChu enjoy bickering with each other and sometimes metaphorically 'beat each other up'. Marx thinks it's absolutely hilarious when this happens and eggs the both of them on.
All in all, Marx enjoys the company of all these guys. He's got things going on with each and every one of them. He commonly hangs out with them a lot. He's kind of grown a soft spot for them.
Marx was quick to join Rick, Kine, Coo and Gooey when the events of Star Allies began. Nago, ChuChu and Pitch stayed behind because Coo thought that the big intergalactic journey would've been too dangerous for ChuChu and Pitch, as Nago decided to babysit them. Marx, however, was more than welcome to participate.
Tumblr media
During Star Allies, the dream friends often split up into groups by their respective waves, and wave 1 was usually a group together. They had a blast kicking ass and taking names when they fought bad guys together during Star Allies. They fought bad guys in mischievous ways, and commonly laughed as they trolled their way through the Jambastion fortress. When the mage sisters were the enemy before their redemption, wave 1 mocked them after defeating them. Unsurprisingly, Marx was doing the most mocking, as Gooey, Rick, Kine and Coo just enabled him and even joined him in doing it.
There were points in Star Allies however when Marx wanted to join Magolor in beating up Jamba bad guys. Due to his insistency in this, wave 1 and wave 3 were a bit connected as the animal trio found opportunities to let Marx be with Magolor for a bit.
After Star Allies, Marx continues being friends with Gooey and the animal friends, as he reunites with Nago, ChuChu and Pitch after the game's events. They were glad to see him again.
Marx's dynamics with these guys more or less remains this way from now on. They like him, they think he's funny as heck, and they'll sometimes join him into doing some sillies.
However, despite liking mischief themselves, the animal friends do have standards. Marx has a knack for causing eventual chaos, and sometimes that can be too much for the animal friends. ChuChu and Pitch may be rowdy enough to occasionally cause accidental chaos, but they themselves still have some clear standards and they'd know when to stop Marx when he goes too far.
Gooey and the animal friends generally have little problem with Marx causing funny stuff with them. If he becomes chaotic with them, they stop him, although they don't really have hard feelings for him about it for the most part. It's when he messes with other people, however, is when it's far more likely they can end up getting mad at him.
They understand that many other people are more easily ticked off than they are, and so they honor that to try to get Marx to not bother others too much. He can't get away with as much for some other people as he can for Gooey and the animal friends, and they know it.
Marx isn't very well liked by some of the other dream friends. In fact, aside from Gooey, Rick, Kine and Coo, the only other dream friends that Marx is actually friends with are Magolor, Daroach and the mage sisters. The rest don't really like him enough to consider him a friend. Some of them even find him to be rather infuriating to deal with.
The animal friends, especially Coo, will usually get Marx to stop messing with the dream friends that can't stand him. Magolor also does this, and thus the animal friends have even talked with Magolor in making Marx leave certain people alone.
Gooey doesn't really act to stop someone from doing something, but even he can give a sad or disapproving look if he thinks that Marx crosses a particular line. That can actually get Marx to behave.
But despite Marx crossing the line for certain people, Gooey and the animal friends still ultimately like him. They, along with Magolor, are just trying to get him to work on becoming a better person over time while they still do some sillies and funnies with him.
They still think he's hilarious as all heck! They do admit he's not always easy to deal with, though. But ultimately, they like him a lot and they were glad that Kirby introduced him to them. Marx likes them a lot, enough to where he'll actually listen if they really want him to improve on something, as he will try for them.
Admittedly, it does freak these guys out that Marx is capable of splitting himself in half and summoning a black hole. They are, however, easily entertained by all his other Nova powers.
They've learned more about clockwork stars thank to Marx, even if they generally don't bother leaving Popstar for the most part.
Marx is generally 'homeless' as he never has a set place that he sleeps in, as he doesn't always even sleep somewhere in Popstar. But there are times that he might sleep under some random tree that's not far from the Dream Land forests that Gooey and the animal friends consider to be their home. It shows how much he likes them.
That's basically all I have for how I interpret Marx's interactions with these guys. They're his friends! I think he actually fits with them pretty well. I know a lot of people interpret "wave 3 + Marx" friend group but I honestly prefer to have Marx stick with his own wave, even if I still find Magolor to be something of a best friend to him.
I'm aware that the animal friends don't really have a lot of canon personality. I headcanon that they're all pretty silly to various degrees. Silly enough to consider Marx their friend. Gooey on the other hand is probably happy enough to welcome anyone as a friend!
Thanks for reading, I plan to make a big general headcanon post for Marx, but for now you get my interpretation of his dynamics with Gooey and the animal friends. Basically covering all of wave 1, with of course including Nago, ChuChu and Pitch since I'm well aware that they are not actually dream friends.
See you for the next one!

Will you make Goobert, Magnificus's eye, and the cuckoo clock puzzle?
Also do you have cards for when the scribes begin to shift back to their old forms?
I actually tried making a Goobert-like thing (pictures below) and while he’s adorable, I am probably going to retry and put him in an actual jar next time djjddj That will give me a chance to add some glow gell to give him a little more flair though!
Tumblr media
As for Magnificus’ eye and the Scrybes, I am currently leaning towards going with a slightly different story to make it my own! As of currently, it takes place as a ‘after the events of the game’ sort of thing! Because of that, while the scribe cards are present, they will not be changing and will not be considered active characters — though there are other cards and familiar characters that will be, including Leshy of course who I will be acting as for the sessions!
As for the cuckoo clock puzzle, I might do a variation of it! I am actually going to be playing this all in a booth so the room is very limited but I might be able to do some kind of invisible ink trick!
If I ever get the chance, my dream is to rent a little cabin for a weekend or something and go all out with a bunch of puzzles and just make an escape room all-nighter out of it! I think it would be an absolute blast and would add to the ambience a lot!

Dredger?
I don’t have a whole ton of stances on the Dredger but I’ll try my best here
Favorite thing about them: The Dredger has very little canon substance so instead I’m just going to ask a question here. Do you think he built the fishing-claw himself or he just operates it and P03 built it? I’m imagining it’s the latter but the concept of the Dredger also being waterproof and able to do underwater repairs in the factory is also pretty interesting.
Least favorite thing about them: P03 should’ve let it talk a little more in his game. Which is absolutely not Dredger’s fault but it should’ve been a questgiver or something at least (I see why it wasn’t a boss obviously—P03 isn’t about to partition his power for any reason—but giving a little side quest for robobux or something would’ve been fun, albeit a little out-of-place if Dredger was the only quest-giver).
Favorite line: Apparently it has a unique line if you beat it on round 1 instead of advancing to round two (and therefore getting the surrender because its too busy focusing on work). I don’t have a screencap, I just thought that was interesting.
brOTP: Aside from the other bots who the Dredger probably chats with between shifts, I can’t see the Dredger actively talking to many people. An extremely funny mental image though is all four of the “fisher” characters (Angler, Goobert, Dredger, and Kaycee) occasionally meeting up for drinks. Except Goobert can’t drink because he’s a liquid, Kaycee can’t drink because she’s a skeleton, and the Dredger has to bring oil from home. Also they canonically have a rivalry, so three of them are very blatantly trying to one-up each other at all times while Kaycee films them on the Nokia flipphone she found in her jacket pocket. It’s awful for everyone involved. And by everyone involved I mean Rebecha who has to clean this shit up.
OTP: I don’t think I’ve seen a single ship with the Dredger and I’m not about to invent one here
nOTP: See above
Random headcanon: Because all of the Scrybes do morally dubious shit I’d imagine P03 probably soft resets its worker bots/makes sure their loyalty is still at the maximum every time it has to preform routine maintenance on them/rebuild them after its boss fight. Dredger is pretty beat-up looking and therefore probably doesn’t get rebuilt as often as the other two. Because of the lack of maintenance he’s the least dogmatic of the bunch—P03 tolerates this only because hes got the most important job of the three (post-OLD_DATA discovery, that is) and wouldn’t want to cause any unnecessary complications with that (and—as much as he hates to admit it—the Dredger does offer pretty decent advice. Wouldn’t want to wipe that by accident).
Unpopular opinion: I cannot think of a single unpopular opinion regarding the Dredger from Inscryption. Can I count the Steambot Finn headcanon here? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else share that one, but it’s still fun to me (even if it doesn’t really work according to the timeline).
Favorite picture of them: This is such an oddly specific detail but I genuinely like the way the rust/algae/general water damage is pixelated here. It makes the metal look a lot more “worn” than the others (almost similar to P03’s own grime on its head/screen/chassis—to a greater extent, of course) and reflects the fact that. Y’know. You’re putting a robot right next to the ocean. Obviously that one is going to look more weathered.

Where did the inspirations for Goobert and Peter the Duck come from? (Those two characters are ADORABLE btw! 😍📦🦆)
Thanks! Always nice to see love for my characters 📦🦆
Goobert's inspiration was a mix of Blue, Pikachu, and a bunch of other various non-verbal sidekick characters. I've always loved that character type, the smaller companion to the protagonist that either says nothing or speaks in their own unique way. That, mixed with the desire to make some sort of goo character, eventually led to Goobs.
As for Peter, that started as an inside joke from a call I had with some friends, and a completely different concept/drawing of a mail delivery chicken 😅 I really liked the idea of a delivery bird of some sort, but decided to switch it around to a duck as both Goobs and I quite like ducks, and changed the deliveries from mail to care items. With mental health becoming more and more of a subject I've been focusing on in the past several years, I loved the idea of having a character that was based in promoting health, love, and self-care.

Ooh! Do you three do any spells? if so, what type of spell do y'all like doing the most.
If not, then favorite food for you little gremlins?
We'll just answer both questions, simple !
Tumblr media
"I've been studying transformation magick for a while now!"
Goobert practices transformation magick, he's trying to find ways to get his gooey self to disappear, he wants to return back to a human but just hasn't found out how yet. But he found out how to summon appendages on himself and how to transform his hands into flesh temporarily, they'll get there soon.
His favourite food is ice cream. We think.
MENTION WARNING, ED:
Tumblr media
"...I find fire to be quite beautiful..."
Ginger doesn't really study magick, but when he does, it's pyro magick. She has had a deep connection to flames ever since her beheading trial. He often uses her fire magick in dark areas and whispers mantras to herself, a way to relax during tough times.
The Pike Mage has no food preference and has, unfortunately, become anorectic.
Tumblr media
[No dialogue, just a bunch of hyperactive panting.]
As for our beloved gremlin here, they use a ton of fun magick, a primary example being their bubble magick. Not useful during combat but it's cute seeing them try to eat the bubbles they summoned.
Their favourite food happens to be anything with a high amount of sugar. It's a surprise they don't get sick.

It feels so weird to get super invested in all of one persons art if that person is still alive. Like if you become obsessed with a painter from like 1734 and study all their work and learn a bunch of random facts about them people will be like "Wow you're so knowledgeable and well studied!"
If you do that with someone who is still alive and people are like "Wow that's so interesting who is your inspiration?" You have to be like. "Yeah that's Goobert Smith. He lives in Atlanta Georgia with his dog right now." Like now your just a weirdo.

Where is the Funcave? Where can I find the Funcave? Is Funcave like the Tombstone Trail in that a bunch of boring people are going to tell me not to go to it?
~Goobert 2
The Glittering Grotto (Funcave) is nearby Yule and yes. Most people think it is very dangerous to go into the Funcave.

Okay so... I think I know what I'd need from my friends here, but just in case... What would I need to be prepared for if I were to cast Form Familiar on myself successfully? Is it much different to any other familiar thing where there's just a guy here now forever?
~Goobert 2
it's not much different at all - the only difference is that your form familiar will be automatically bonded to you (though you should still name it of course). as for things you need... the only things you can really get are generic familiar-care stuff. some people try to predict what their form familiar will be before they cast the spell, but obviously if you get it wrong you have a bunch of stuff you can't use...
for generic things you need... little checklist: creature cage or some other space the familiar can hang out in - with a bed and toys, and familiar food (you can only really get generic stuff right now; once you know what your form familiar is, you can get food specific to them)
everything else you're going to have to get once you know what kind of creature your familiar is. good luck goobert

THE PURSUE OF HAPPINESS (Chapter 1 or something)
Please acknowledge that this is a joke story with Inscryption characters. That’s. That’s all I have to say. Goobert woke up one morning, the sun hitting him right in the eyes, and boy, that isn't a good thing for him, really. Goobert suffered from a case of astigmatism in both of his eyes, so when he moved away from the sun's blinding rays, he had these weird wiggly things in his vision. Kinda like a bunch of tiny, flying worms. How annoying...
Though, he wasn't bothered by the little worms he hallucinated. He stood up next to his bed with a grin after rubbing his eyes with his goopy green hands. "GOOOOD MORNING, TOWER!" He yelled at the top of his nonexistent lungs, dashing over to his closet to get some clothes on since he slept practically naked (it's not like he had anything to cover anyway.) His closet was a humourous sight, it was a walk-in closet with duplicates of his same exact robe, extra-large, purple, and made from fine silk, laced in a gold yellow around the sleeves and such.
He didn't mind though, that was his fashion. He unhooked one of the robes and slipped it on. "I LOOK FANTASTIC!" He yelled, though truthfully he looked very average. Goobert continued to grin widely before he walked out of his room with his new clothing on, sliding down the staircase since he had little to no care for walking down. And then he went into the kitchen, where Magnificus, Lonely Wizard, and Piked Mage were sitting at the table.
Piked Mage looked annoyed while she was texting on her little Samsung phone. Or she was looking something up. Goobert went to her first, grabbing her shoulders and glancing at her phone out of curiosity. "WHATCHA DOOOOIN'?"
"GAH-!" Piked shrieked, turning off her phone screen and shoving it up to her chest. "Privacy, please?" She seemed a bit anxious now.
"OH. OH PRIVACY, YEAH THAT'S A THING! UH, HOW'S EVERYONE DOING THIS FINE MORNING?!" Goobert stood on the kitchen table.
"Get down from there," Magnificus demanded sternly.
"Oh- RIGHT-" Goobert began to frown a bit as he sat in the only chair available.
Magnificus cleared his throat, "However, to answer your question, I'm decent, I suppose." Magnificus replied though he sounded quite annoyed for whatever reason. Goobert assumed one of the other Scrybes must've ticked him off earlier.
"I'm good." Piked spoke in a monotonous tone, going back to staring at her phone. Goobert didn't understand why she liked that thing so much. Sometimes, he wanted to just take it away from her, but he also did that once before and got shanked two hundred times in seven seconds from her. He shivered at the memory.
Lonely let out a small growl (like a "kkrrggg") as he looked over at Goobert, "I WANNA KILL A GUY! I WANNA KILL A MAN AND MAYBE ANOTHER!!"
"EMMM... W-WHY'S THAT?" Goobert asked his small friend.
"SOMEONE STOLE MY KIT-KAT BAR!! THE CHOCOLATE... IT STIMULATES, IT'S GONE NOW, I MUST AVENGE MY CANDY BAR! I WILL DESTROY THE WHOLE WOOOOORLD!" He slammed his tiny fists on the table, breathing heavily.
"Dude, it's been on the counter the entire time." Piked replied, pointing over to an opened kit-kat bar. The attached kit-kats were all bit together rather than snapped apart.
"Oh- KIT-KAAAAAAAAAAT!" The feral tiny creature screamed aloud, skittering over to the unsatisfyingly eaten candy bar.
Piked snorted and rolled her eyes (presumably, at least,) before she went back to her little phone.
"What's up with you guys today? C’MON, LET’S DO SOMETHING TOGETHER!!" Goobert forced a wide smile, getting out of his chair and gesturing for everyone to get up. But nobody listened or even glanced at him. That frown of his came back as he sighed...
...The rest of the day was very long and unamusing, to Goobert anyways. He went back into his bedroom which was almost as messy as a splatter room. He face-planted into his pillow on his bed, not finding even his bed comfortable anymore. Goobert groaned and adjusted himself to stare at the ceiling of his room, resting his hands on his chest as he felt alone and boring. Why weren't the others happy like him? Has he done something wrong? He questioned things that he usually wouldn't! He thought his 'tower family' was perfect, but he was now questioning his relationship with everyone...
As everything fell into silence, Lonely Wizard snuck into Goobert's room after sensing an unusual wave of sadness coming from his friend. Lonely growled as he crawled over to Goobert before sitting right on his friend's stomach. "Hi."
"Oh," Goobert forced a grin, "Hey, I guess."
"What's going on? KKKRRGGG DO I NEED TO DESTROY SOMETHING?" Lonely got on all fours and arched his back, glancing around while hissing softly. His pupils slit, giving him a more cat-like appearance.
"Lonely, it's- eerrughh... It's fine... Just, Magnificus and Piked have been pretty moody lately-" Goobert sighed.
"AND RECLUSIVE. I DON'T LIKE IT." Lonely said, shaking his head.
Goobert gave a more genuine smile, "I see, I'm not the only one who's noticed..."
"NOPE! BUT HEY, I HEARD SOMETHING ABOUT THIS UH..." Lonely had to think, "OH YEAH!! SOME GOLDEN TULIP THING!! IT RADIATES STIMULATION AS LONG AS IT'S ALIVE! MAYBE WE COULD GO AND GET IT, THEN BRING IT BACK TO THE TOWER!"
"A golden tulip of happiness?" That peeked Goobert's attention, "Where would we look for it though?"
"UM... I-I-IN SOME MEADOW WITH BLUE AND PINK FLOWERS, GOLDEN YELLOW GRASS, YEAH!" Lonely's tail wagged as he hopped off Goobert.
Goobert was quiet, but he got out of his bed and began to search through his room. He grabbed a bag and put it around his neck as he searched through his drawers. Not much was in the drawers besides art supplies, potions, elixirs, and what seemed to be a few pocket knives. He decided to take a few of each, which quickly filled his bag. "L-Lonely? You miiiiind p-packing some- arrgh- food? It may be a while of t-traveling."
"Waaaait, W-WE'RE GOING RIGHT NOW?" Lonely cocked his head.
Goobert simply nodded as he stood up.
"OH, OH OKAY-!" The lonely wizard skittered out of the room nervously.

I have a bunch of ocs that are inspired by TI characters, and wanted to draw some self-indulgent art of them hanging out together! plus a for-fun bonus doodle of Driscol if he cleaned up first is Driscol with Verne, Driscol has blossomed into his own thing, but he was super inspired by Verne and I sure wouldn’t have made him if Verne didn’t exist and wasn’t such a fun character! I think they would get along well, and that’s probably an awful thing second; I made my oc Liez before watching TI, but she didn’t have a lot of personality or was very fleshed out til I had Ashe as an inspiration! she’s a big lesbian mouse with a big gay crush (I want to make it clear she’s an adult, she’s just small because mouse) third is my oc Roo Stamblin! One’s cousin! he actually came to me in a dream! he’s a tiefling with storm-based magic, and a tanuki familiar! now, in my dream it was a little different, his name wasn’t Roo, it was… Goo. and I know it’s cause of all the “Goober” talk going on in recent episodes that my brain latched onto that name ghdgfdgh. I did decide the Tanuki’s name is Goobert though. he was also One’s dad, not his cousin. but I hated both of those things and changed them. dream also said he’s trans which is really cool of him fourth is my oc Augustina Jun, who’s Inien’s sister! she also came to me in a dream! Inien canonically has at least one sibling given she’s said she has a nephew, which was hinted that it may or may not be Colvin? I think it was left intentionally vague so you can decide. personally, I love that idea. so dream brain came up with an oc who is Inien’s sister and Colvin’s mom. I like to think she’s very much an elegant and refined scholarly lady who has a strong Cain instinct and goes ape as soon as little sis walks into the room five and six: my oc Kirza, the Harbinger of Something or Another, a spirit of curses, with Rat, who definitely inspired them conceptually. it’s not malevolent, nor in control of the affects it has on it’s surroundings. really weird stuff happens wherever they go, sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes both, but usually just strange. I think Rat would definitely be very interested in them. physically, they were inspired by the weird horse head guy in the opening animation of the series!

Barkwursts and Kickstarter Info!
Hey everyone!  Got a bunch of stuff to talk about in this post, so let’s get rolling!  If you aren’t already on the discord, I’d recommend joining it by clicking this link.  This is by far the best way to get in touch with me and keep track of development.
Barkwursts
Around 2-3 years ago, during The Fantabulous Game’s development, I announced the existence of Spheredogs.  These dogs would serve a similar purpose to Jinjos, giving Capboy a sausage if he collects them all in a level.  Initially made as a reference to the original Le Fantabulous Game, I’ve decided to change that plan.  After all, the new Spheredog design wasn’t even a sphere, but rather more of a sausage with legs!  So, I present to you:  Barkwursts!

Barkwursts are the exact same as Spheredogs were in TFG, just with a new name.  Though they aren’t designed as of right now, Spheredogs will be returning as small, kickable, gremlin-esque Spherefriends -- just as they were back in the very first iteration of Le Fantabulous Game.  The Sausage rewards will be doled out by a new character, interested in collecting Barkwursts to help his own Quest for Sausage...

The first new Capkin design in Fantaria’s history, I present to you: Ecapresu, the Farmer!  Living in Home Sausage, Ecapresu uses Barkwursts to help facilitate his peaceful harvest of Sausages.  To thank Capboy for bringing Barkwursts to him, Ecapresu shares a portion of his harvest with Capboy.  Additionally, Capboy will be able to learn more about his own species from Ecapresu, as well as get information on the Barkwursts that he has brought.

The aspect of Barkwursts that I’m the most excited about, however, is their integration into the Kickstarter.  The Barkwursts you see above are actually created by members on the testing team, hence their fantastically varied designs!  Also named by these testers, these fellas will serve as the five Barkwursts found in Fantaria’s demo level.  On that note, I’d like to move on to talk about the Kickstarter’s stretch goals and reward tiers!
Kickstarter Reward Tiers
Fantaria: The Quest for Sausage is going to have a variety of reward tiers, focusing on digital rewards.  Every tier has its own title in the credits, and your name will be listed alongside all of your creations (if you’re okay with it!) in the credits as well.  I won’t be going into incredible depth on all of them here, but here’s a quick lowdown:
$5: Coolfriend. Have your name put in the credits, and receive a wallpaper pack.  Every further tier has the wallpaper pack as well!
$15: Digital copy of the game on release.
Backerfriend title in credits.
$25: Deluxe copy of the game on release.  In addition to the game, this features the soundtrack and access to (potential, not guaranteed!) DLC released in the future.  Every tier beyond this point also has the deluxe edition of the game.
Deluxe Backerfriend title in credits
$60: Design-a-Spherefriend.  Similar to the build-a-spherefriend tool I released many years ago, design a Spherefriend NPC by choosing color, size, name, and customized headwear.  Also, you can name your spherefriend, pick a combat unit archetype, and write a small dialogue blurb to be translated into Spherespeak!
Designerfriend title in credits.
$120: Design-a-Barkwurst.  With much more freedom than Spherefriend designs, you can have your own Barkwurst design put into the game, along with a name and a bio!  As seen with the example 5 above, Barkwurst designs have a lot of freedom, so this will be your chance to really get creative.
Dogfriend title in credits.
$150: Designer Dogfriend.  Design both a Spherefriend and a Barkwurst!  The next two reward tiers give you these privileges as well.
Designer Dogfriend title in credits.
$300: Design-an-NPC!  This tier will let you get your own unique NPC design into the game, with at least one encounter in one of the games’ levels.  Note that due to the larger universe impact of a proper NPC, some restrictions will apply -- see below.
Deluxe Designerfriend title in credits
$600: Design-a-boss!  This tier will let you design your own unique boss encounter for Capboy and Friendwoman to face, featuring its own unique fighting style, difficulty, arena, personality, and rewards upon defeat!   Note that due to the larger universe impact of a full bossfight, some restrictions will apply -- see below.
Ultimate Designerfriend title in credits.
Kickstarter Reward Limitations
To help make sure Fantaria: tQfS is a cohesive experience that fits my vision, there are some limitations on “design-an-x” reward tiers.  Note that these are guidelines, not hard refusals!  If you have a character that you’re concerned will be affected by these limitations, I want you to reach out to me to talk about it!  I’m always willing to work to find a compromise if you’re interested in seeing your character or design in Fantaria..
I reserve the right to have final say on small tweaks of all backer designs
You must legally own the rights to the characters and/or designs you request!  For example, a direct lift of Mario’s outfit on a Spheredog wouldn’t be okay, but a design which clearly falls under parody would be.  This applies more strictly to the higher tiers (see below).
Spherefriends cannot be made super massive, and their headwear shouldn’t be excessively vulgar or otherwise go counter to Fantaria’s aesthetic (i.e. no hyper realistic textures).
Barkwursts must always have the same silhouette, and make the same SFX as each other, to ensure the player can easily identify them despite the varied designs.
NPCs and Bosses have some further restrictions:
No humans.  Friendwoman is the only human presently in Fantaria’s universe, and this is a very key component of the universe.  If you have a human design that you’d like to see, I’d be thrilled to work with you on creating a variation of it that fits into the universe! (i.e. a capkin or PBot version).
No parodies/memes.  Unlike Spherefriends and Barkwursts, which don’t weigh much on the plot or universe, NPCs/bosses should not blatantly be referencing real-life jokes or personalities.  This does not mean that they all have to be serious, they can be wacky and silly!  Just...no ugandan knuckles parody, or trump parody, or other designs like that.
No characters with explicit and consistent ties to adult material.  It’s totally fine if your character is generally slightly lewd or attractive, but if all they’re associated with is porn (either vanilla or fetish), they won’t be a good fit for Fantaria.
I retain final say on the power level of your character in relation to the cast of Fantaria.  This is mostly to make sure that no characters become more important to the plot and events than pre-existing characters like Capboy and Friendwoman...unless, of course, I think the design can fit into such a role!  Naturally, you still have control over your character’s personality and attitude, and I will run any story events they are involved in by you to make sure you’re satisfied with the way they react.
Kickstarter Stretch Goals
Now that that’s out of the way, the final thing I’d like to talk about here are Kickstarter Stretch Goals!  I’ve budgeted these all fairly thoroughly, as I’ll explain in more detail when the KS itself launches.  These are as follows:
$25,000 -- Initial Goal.  This provides me with the living costs needed for the estimated year and some change of remaining development, as well as to commission Scandre and Viv for art and music, respectively.
$30,000 -- Local Deathmatch.  This tier will add a local deathmatch option to the main title, where you can fight with up to three of your friends in brand new arenas inspired by the couch competitions of old!
$35,000 -- More levels. This tier will add four fully-featured secret levels, pushing Capboy to the limit and providing special new rewards.  These levels will each come with a unique ability, melee weapon, and bossfight
$40,000 -- The Fantabulous Arena.  This tier will add a special arena to the game, allowing Capboy to fight endless enemy waves and challenge bosses that he’s already defeated again!  In addition to being able to have fun experiencing these fights, the Arena will have special challenges restricting Capboy to certain weapons, with even more sausages being rewarded for completing them.  Finally, post-release, all bosses will receive an additional Fantabulous version of themselves, unlocking potent new weapon upgrades for Capboy!
$50,000 -- Nightmare Mode. This tier will add a second campaign, inspired by the brutal NG+’s found in oldschool games.  Play as Capboy’s ally Friendwoman, travelling backwards through a distorted and damaged version of the main game’s story.  Face brutal platforming challenges, intense battle arenas, and mindbending puzzles, using with all of the main game’s weapons and unlocks to overcome the odds!  Naturally, this mode will also feature every single Fantabulous boss in place of their standard versions.  Nightmare Mode, if funded, would release as post-release DLC free to all backers of the $15 tier and above.
$60,000 -- Local Co-op.  Friendwoman will be able to join in with Capboy in the main quest, with the game dynamically adjusting challenges and obstacles to adjust for the additional player.  When in multiplayer, bosses will gain new co-op exclusive mechanics, and co-op exclusive puzzles and battle rooms will block the pair’s route.  This will also allow Friendwoman to be played instead of Capboy in the singleplayer main campaign.  If funded, this tier will release alongside the main game, and will likely cause some slight delay to the current predicted release date.
$65,000 -- Nightmare Co-op.  Friendwoman will be able to bring Capboy with her on her quest through the nightmare realm, enabling cooperation against the new threats and challenges of this brutal adventure.  As with the main campaign, new unique co-op oriented challenges will be present when in multiplayer on this campaign!  If funded, Nightmare Mode will have co-op when it is launched post-release.
$80,000 -- Online Multiplayer.  If funded, all multiplayer modes will be able to be played with one another online!  Releasing with the main game, Online Multiplayer will likely result in some further slight delay to the predicted release date if funded.
Whew, that was a lot!  If you bore with me for all of that, you’re a superfan, and it’s great to know that there are people dedicated enough to read through all of that.  As for when the KS and demo will actually launch, my current prediction is July 26th -- ironically, the same date (+4 months) as I wanted to release TFG’s kickstarter last year! Now that I’ve recovered from the issues I discussed in the last post, I’ve been diving deep back into development and making great progress.  As we approach that date, I will continue to evaluate the amount of work remaining and let you guys know if that seems like it’s going to change.
As I said at the beginning, swing by the Discord if you haven’t already and want to talk about this stuff!  I’m very eager to hear feedback on the price points of rewards and stretch goals, and am willing to listen to suggestions on any changes.  See you guys soon with another chunk of progress!
