My last post going over my thoughts on Hazbin Hotel ended at episode 4. 8 episodes later, in honor of the season ending and also Symmetry, the rest.

It's a lot longer, so I'm ditching the bullet points and putting it under a readmore.

My largest and foremost gripe with the series as a whole (and this extends to Helluva Boss as well) is that the female cast feels weirdly underdeveloped. They're not poorly written per se, Charlie is likeable and well-realized even if she's been mostly static (vanilla protagonist?), and Vaggie did get some interesting folds when her being a former angel was revealed (I didn't know this was a fan theory btw), but Niffty's been mostly a joke, and all the same they're blown out of the water compared to the amount of screentime and focus devoted to guys like Angel Dust, Alastor, Vox, and even Husk perhaps. The good thing is that this is one of those issues where you don't have to "go back" and fix anything, you just have to give them more of a spotlight in future episodes. Which I hope they do.

I think even Christians would agree that Lucifer was always the most interesting character in the Bible, and I was excited for the show's take on him. There are shades of "Lucifer as an embodiment of freedom in contrast to God's order" which is a pretty standard read on his character, but the big thing they seemed to stress was his characteristics as a dreamer and an artist, which is pretty fresh. So introducing him stuck in a creative rut and essentially poo-pooing Charlie's dreams for the hotel is a good indicator that something's deeply wrong. It turns out that Hell is a pretty hopeless environment to be in, and his disinterest in the Hotel or helping Charlie make it succeed was because he's now riding the philosophy of "if you never chase your dreams you never get hurt when they fail", which is just depressing to hear. I have thoughts on the show's depiction and philosophy on Hell, but I'll group it with my thoughts on Heaven two paragraphs from now. Also his design fucks, I like the snake-apple-crown around his top hat, I didn't even notice his torso is meant to look like an apple core until someone else pointed it out, we stan a short king, etc. etc.

I found Heaven to be pretty interesting. I was expecting most of the angels to look more or less the same as each other, but the variety in display (some are furries, some are dudes, some are polygonal creatures) was more interesting, in addition to making me think "wow the fact that they draw from the same design pool in hell is interesting", to which my main man @arcane-nrok posited that it's because the people in Heaven and Hell are not fundamentally different from each other, where they end up depends solely on their environment and upbringing. Then Adam said nobody drinks because "there are no hard days in Heaven" and we both began pogging out of our minds.

The biggest bombshell when it comes to discussing Heaven or Hell is that despite our antagonists literally being the forces of Heaven, God has never been mentioned even once. Because of this, I have to disagree with the people claiming that Hazbin Hotel is some screed against Christianity (even though as an anti-theist, I wouldn't object if it were), and I definitely don't think it's a "fuck you mom" immature one either. It reads to me as more of a rebuttal and criticism of Christians and Christian morality than the actual religion itself. I mentioned the implications of class inequality before, that Adam more or less implies that if you have an easy life, you'll more easily find Heaven, and that if you have a harder life, you'll more easily find Hell. And while I know a lot of Christians were offended by the fact that the Angels don't seem to like the sinners and also don't seem to give much of a shit about the concept of redemption either, this reading makes sense if you imagine them not as Angels but as humans, interpreting doctrine in whatever way benefits them at the expense of others. Allegorically, Adam is the "christian who has never read the bible" who flaunts basically every rule but is de facto understood to be a "good christian" and so his behavior gets a pass as he and everyone else focuses on the shortcomings of everyone else, Lute is so ideologically locked into eating from her trash can that she's essentially been turned into a weapon focused on denouncing and punishing the unworthy, Sera is empathetic and aware of the internal incoherency and cruelties of the system he upholds but is locked into it to such an extent that she has to justify, compartmentalize, or ignore those glaring issues, and Emily is the same, except young enough that the indoctrination isn't as strong, and without the "tenure" such that she's most likely at risk to be excommunicated for her concerns. And on Hell, the great philosophical evil present over anything else is that while there may be some truly despicable people in there, the possibility of redemption must remain, to such an extent that it's positioned as an almost universal right and that the denial of it is an almost cosmic injustice (which in terms of theology and critical reading of the bible is almost as old as, the bible). Not only is the denial of redemption a tool used by the Angels to justify the existence of the system as it is (the argument of "they had their chance to get into heaven, it's too late now" is said by Adam at least twice and by at least five different sinners), but the sheer bleakness of it was enough to temporarily drain all the joy and hope from creation's first artist and dreamer. In short, the nightmare that Hazbin Hotel conjures isn't that God is cruel or unjust, but that he's been dethroned by his most fundamentalist followers.

Also Vaggie got kicked out of Heaven for refusing to kill a child, so I actually I take it back this show is extremely biblically accurate.

To suddenly jerk away from theology, philosophy, and societal critique and back to "here's my cartoon criticism", the pacing. I still maintain that if you blame anybody but the jokers who gave them eight episodes to work with, I'm going to fuck your wife, but I feel like it's been as much of a good thing as a bad thing??? The good news is that the plot is advancing constantly (as opposed to Helluva Boss which can feel dawdling and aimless), and the brisk pace means we don't have to "dwell" on things that make me groan when other shows dwell on them. Sir Pentious' introduction to the hotel, for example, could have devoted more time to the "Angel Dust feels that Pentious is a sussy amongus and also maybe a bit inadequate because the snake is an immediately better guest than him" element, or could have had Sir Pentious run away after getting caught, the attempt at redemption being a fib until he comes back a second time and stays for real. But they didn't in either case, and I feel like the episode was better for it (I was pleasantly shocked when he signed on for real). The bad news is, there's no room to breathe, meaning that everything necessarily must reach the high stakes being set by the rest of the plot, and we can't devote more time to the quieter, slower moments without making them take up the episode (as in episode 4, not that I thought that sequence was bad). Episode 7 is the embodiment of this dual nature, I think. Charlie felt hurt by Vaggie keeping secret the fact that she used to be an Exterminator, and while she felt hurt (as she should, her feelings are valid), she did ultimately resolve them after a frank talk and an exploration of what she's really feeling. Seeing that is refreshing after seeing Every Other Show turn this "plot" into a season-length dramafest, but Charlie essentially resolved this on her own with the help of Rosie, and by the time she meets up with Vaggie they've both essentially buried the hatchet without even the implication they talked to each other about it. "Deeds not words" was the big clincher for Charlie forgiving her, but I'm not alone in thinking this is some sort of mis-step, right? My hope with season 2, along with getting more episodes, please, is that they get more room to breath, but also don't "slog". A tough needle to thread, but a doable one I believe.

"Too much red." - Adam Firstman

Season 2 is a killer for a fair number of shows that end season 1 with a bang. They can enter "the sophomore slump" as they try to find their footing exploring new ground while also not fully divorcing themselves from the identity they built up in season 1. But I feel like they set up quite a number of threads to follow up on. The Angels have been defeated (RIP Adam, he sucked but he was fun to watch), Lute is still thirsty for revenge, and apparently they not only have Lilith, but they're going to deploy her soon. Pentious officially got into heaven, which will undoubtedly cause a shitstorm as redemption is proven officially possible, the Seraphim are the first to meet him, as well as "I wanna see how this goober acts in heaven". The hotel is rebuilt, and is now "on the map" seeing as how everyone knows Charlie stopped the extermination. Alastor has an ace up his sleeve with Charlie's deal, and his motives are still largely enigmatic. Vox and his cronies are emboldened and plan to make a push. There's at least three powderkegs present, with several irons in the fire nearby, which should be plenty of material to follow up with or deliver on.

My final hope is that, as I said in the last post, Hazbin Hotel feels like an improvement upon Helluva Boss's shortcomings. There's still shared issues, like the aforementioned Feminism Loss, but it knows and follows on its own premise (whereas the IMPs haven't been doing much assassinating), swears casually but only purposefully overuses it for obnoxious characters like Vox or Adam or when someone is emotionally compromised (meanwhile half of Blitzo's dialogue can bleed into a white noise of fuck words), keeps up the tension and advances the plot (as opposed to the aforementioned dawdling and aimlessness), etc. So in the same vein as my hopes that Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel follows up on its strong points while working on its weaker points, I hope Season 3 of Helluva Boss similarly learns and improves from its sister series.

Tf when your enemies kiss for the first time after slapping your ass to the stratosphere with a combination of Fire Glyphs and a cinch of Heron's Bane Anyway guess who got infected with @gamerbearmira's clownery and made an AU despite the 4 or so others I have in pending? It's me! Newly hatched Clown here folks. Basically it's an AU (a really babey one still) where Luz Noceda and Marcy Wu were the childhood friends, discovered Earth's Glyphs either by magical spoilery intervention or just like the Boiling Isles' Glyphs- through a stargazing session, messed around with them and mastered combinations enough that when Marcy gets dragged to Anne and Sasha all the way to Los Angeles at age 10 for her and 11 for Luz, our favorite human witchling managed to make bracelets-rings-necklaces-still can't decide that allows them to connect their mindscapes so they stay in contact via dreams, did that long distance relationship (except they didn't know it yet) thing for those 3 years until their canons came a calling. You can imagine the utter chaos when they both fell asleep in the Boiling Isles and Newtopia for the first time, met each other in their shared mindscape and were instantly like "You got stuck in another dimension too?!!???!!!" Oh and Marcy isn't the instigator for the Music Box here- girl recognized the aura of magic alright and years of experience with Earth Glyphs made her the hesitant one in the trio- at least until she could make sure it's safe. Plus, they just moved to Los Angeles and she has a bestest friend literally connected to her brain via fucking magic, so she won't have any motive anyway. Plus, all those times in the library that Canon Marcy would have spent? That's halfed now- she spends half of the time sleeping to meet, play, practice glyphs with Luz. So how'd they get it? Well, Sasha didn't have a present for Anne (she's the late one here), passed it by, saw how weirdly... weird it is (like Anne! And plus, most fics headcanon Anne having frogs as a favorite animal and I 100% agree) and said fuck it and stole it. She then gave it to Anne, Marcy's magic senses tingled like crazy- but Sasha does a Sasha and peer pressures Anne into opening it before Marcy regains her composure to protest. And with Luz? Well she basically goes to Boiling Isles the same way- too distracted by trying to get the Azura Book Marcy got her with her first allowance (to give it more importance, and also Camila's the one to throw it out not Luz) from Owlbert to recognize the magic her instincts were screaming at her to notice. The entire thing is almost the same as canon- except with Luz a little bit more mature and capable, and Eda being half 'this kid is so sus' and half 'yoooo pog??? A human with magic???' (because I'm pretty sure the reason Boiling Isles Glyphs don't work on Earth is because they're designed to use magic only from the Titan- I'm also pretty sure the dude gave them to Canon Luz. Now, my reason for Earth Glyphs working on the Boiling Isles? Have you seen humans? If we're adaptable, Glyphs made by nature- which we are part of - would also be. At least that's my AU loremaking led me to headcanon into existence anyway). Hmm... am I forgetting anything else???? Oh right. OH MY GOD I JUST WANT MY TWO FAVORITE GIRLS TO BE HAPPY OKAY AND THEY'RE SO PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER I'M FUCKING SOBBING UGHGHGHGHGHGHGH LUMITY IS GREAT AND SO IS MARCANNE BUT SORRY GUYS, FOR ME IT'S GONNA HAVE TO BE MARZ/GREENLIGHT/WIZ (WIT-LUZ HAHAHA) THAT SLEEPOVER SCENE WITH THE THREE AND MARCY'S LITTLE "Oh... you guys fell asleep... again..." My Thoughts on FE Engage

Aight I had all this sitting in a google doc for a while and now that I’ve sat on this for a while I figured I could share what I think about this game. I have A LOT of thoughts so buckle up. These are all just my personal opinions and I’m not some kind of Maddening/Classic player that is gonna analyze how the game is balanced or anything. Spoilers for the whole game btw.

Overall

In general, I definitely enjoyed this game. I think if Fates was only one route then it would honestly be pretty similar to this one.

Game play is fun, characters are amusing, if a bit flat in some cases (but honestly I was a little surprised with some of them). The story is kinda lacking, but some aspects of it were fun and even interesting.

Most of my gripes from this game come from me thinking about cool shit it totally had the set up and then it not doing anything with those cool things. Lots of missed opportunities for a game that has so many references to older games in the franchise.

I do think this game is a step down from three houses in terms of characters and story tho

I played in English with the Japanese audio and wow I’m not very happy with the translation. They leave out a lot of things and even change characterization pretty drastically in some cases (Louis’ “people watching” and Amber/Diamant’s entire support chain as a few examples). The English dub is pretty solid from what I’ve heard though

I didn’t really think about graphics or art design much with this game, but I will say the discrepancies between the in-game and rendered cut scene models was insane (I don’t mean quality, like these characters just look different). Also Sombron’s model was ugly as fuck. Also lots of clipping and also sometimes only one eye would move on a character and that was always a little jarring

Gameplay

Kinda hard to fuck up the basic gameplay in a fire emblem game tbh

My main gripe is that the difficulty difference between “normal” and “hard” is fucking insane. Hard is pretty fuckin’ infuriating, but normal is piss easy, I really needed an in-between difficulty there.

Also it’s really hard to grind characters if you leave them for too long since the skirmishes scale with your main story chapter (I know this is more similar to older games but I got used to being able to grind all my characters okay :p)

I miss the crit cut-ins :(

There’s so much shit to do in the Somniel it’s kind of overwhelming and a bit tedious after a few chapters

No weapon durability, which I personally enjoy

I don’t think the soundtrack is anything special, but there are definitely some cool tracks that I like a lot esp near the end of the game

POG you can be gay with everyone

Emblems

Aight let’s get the big boys out of the way

I LOVE the emblem mechanic. I think it’s super fun and creative. It adds another layer of customization to your units and the nostalgia factor is not lost on me either

Visually I think engaging is super fun, love that the outfits are a version of the emblem’s and the cool hair colors

I think inheriting skills from emblems is a super neat thing, esp if you have a unit that works well with multiple emblems (grinding SP is kind of a chore tho)

INSANE that they wrote three part supports for every character with every emblem, they’re fun I like that you can learn about the emblem and what game they’re from in all of those

I think their choice of characters for each emblem mostly made sense, there were definitely some choices that made me go ???, but I’m fine with them and I’m glad they tried to balance out the genders since a lot of fe lords are dudes

Emblem ring polishing really fucking weird, don’t like the sounds they make oh god, I avoided that shit like the plague

Classes

Big fan of the way they do classes in this game! Rather than weapon proficiency determining what class you can turn into, the class you pick determines your weapon proficiency (for example as a high priest you get access to B rank tomes, B rank fists and S rank staves)

You get weapon proficiencies from using emblems as well, and you gotta use the specific emblem that gives you that proficiency

The classes aren’t as customizable as they are in three houses, but there is more customization than in older games. For most martial classes you can pick what weapon they specialize in (paladins, hero, berserker, etc)

Because of the way weapon proficiencies work your access to better weapons is a little more sparse since they don’t want you buying silver weapons for everyone at level 10, I think they pace it pretty well tho

Kinda crazy that all the royals have their own special class. I like it for flavor obvi, but it’s funny since they’re a big chunk of your playable characters

Maps

Pretty good in general

I think some more variety in winning conditions would have been fun, almost all of them were “Defeat enemy commander” and then there were two “Escape” maps. The last 5 chapters or so all did something fun so I’m not too beat up about it really

Lotta dark maps on this one, more than we’ve had in a while I think

Mostly a me thing, but I’m mad you can’t rotate the map 360 degrees anymore

FUCK CHAPTER 17 UGH

THE EMBLEM TRIALS ARE SO FUCKING COOL OH MY GOD, maps that look like iconic maps from their original game?? Dude fire emblem fans are EATING (don’t even get me started on the music remixes AOUGH)

The last level is piss easy if you’re over leveled and I think it makes it less impactful because you can skip the fun unit thing it has set up

Combat

The addition of Break and Smash mechanics was pretty neat, I think they made the combat a little more dynamic

Weapon advantages matter even more now since you can break an enemy with them

Smash is cool since you can wack enemies around the map, I will say tho, you often do so much damage with the great weapons that you often kill the unit before even pushing them

Also depending on the unit, the fact that you have to tank a hit first can deter you from using them

Somniel

There’s so much shit going on on the Somniel and thankfully you can skip a decent chunk, but it does get more monotonous than three houses I think since you go back a lot more often

I wish there was a thing i could click that would gather all the items lying around for me, I’m lazy, make Sommie do it

Characters

I was pleasantly surprised with the characters in this game. I was expecting more of them to be boring and one note, but there’s a surprising amount of depth with some of these guys. Depth that was not shared equally mind you, but it’s there.

This game has a bigger cast than it needs I think, but it’s not bloated like Fates.

Supports/Interpersonal Dynamics

This is also a story flaw that I’ll get into later, but there’s not really any interpersonal conflict going on in this game, everyone’s pretty nice to each other and where it would make sense for there to be conflict there is none (and sometimes there’s random superficial conflict that doesn’t need to be there, read: white bitches being racist to Fogado)

I’m not saying I need characters to hate each other, but there’s very little character growth or reflection going on. Like the game makes a point to show you that each of the four kingdoms have very different values and ethics, so you’d think that would come up more, but tbh it only really does with the crown royals and their supports

Also Alcryst having beef with Ivy, but not Hortensia was a choice

I also think more people should have been upset with Veyle, like I think it would have been cool to see them have to overcome their feelings since the evil Veyle was quite literally someone else and they had to come to terms with that in some way.

Instead it all comes from Veyle being like “oh god I’m so sorry please let me atone somehow” when literally everyone is like “oh no sweat we’re chill”

EVERYONE IS OBSESSED WITH ALEAR PLEASE GIVE ME ONE PERSON THAT DOESN’T LIKE THEM IMMEDIATELY. AAAAAAA

Yo why doesn’t Alear act like they’re from a thousand years ago

Story

Setting

The world is pretty typical for a fire emblem game I think. You got a handful of kingdoms, one is kinda evil-ish, one is super peaceful and there’s probably a trade based, “free” kingdom, and another one rolled at random on a list of kingdoms, in this case one that’s obsessed with strength.

3 of the 4 kingdoms are allies/neutral and of course it’s just the “evil” kingdom picking fights, which I think is kinda stale esp since they’ve been at peace for a while. Not saying there needs to be a war or anything I just want more political intrigue and tension

Elyos has also been ruled by dragon gods since forever, never elaborated?? Where did normal people come from? Were they the same?

I’d love to learn more about what happened during those thousand years tbh

Also what was the world like a thousand years ago? I wanna know more about Gradlon, did people live there? How was Sombron as a king? What about the mage dragons?

Plot

There’s not much in the plot of this game that sets it apart from older fire emblem games

Like a good chunk of plot beats are very similar if not exactly the same as fates

MC is dragon child with mysterious past and everyone loves them immediately

Mom dies in your arms by jumping in front of something purple to save you within the first 5 chapters thrown by a hooded figure

You fight a resurrected version of your mom who is now a little evil and actively obstructing you

Evil kingdom king was controlled by evil dragon

You turn out to be the child of the evil dragon

Evil dragon is some bitch from another world

The antagonists are pretty comically evil until they die and then the game tries to redeem them or make them seem like round characters, but I don’t think you really get enough of that side for any of them. And it’s not like the pacing felt rushed, you were definitely just dicking around in there for a few chapters in the middle, those could have been used to flesh out the antags

They faked you out and made you think Alear was evil in the past, but oops nah he was nice then too

It was pretty obvious from the beginning that you were Sombron’s kid, and Veyle’s sibling, her evil reveal was pretty neat tho

Chapters 21, 22 and 24 went hard I will say. They had a lot of cool shit happen in there and even some stuff I wasn’t expecting! I’m still mad Alear wasn’t evil

COME ON SOMBRON’S FROM ANOTHER WORLD? AND HE’S JUST EVIL CUZ HE WAS A PISSY LONELY BITCH THAT MISSED HIS GHOST BF

Last level was equal parts cool and disappointing. I guessed correctly that Sombron would bring all the past antags as emblems which GOD IS SO FUCKING COOL, but they’re just like generic hooded figures which is so LAME. Like come on you’ve already put in this much to have a nod to the older games you can make a few more assets :/

Fell Xenologue Thoughts

Gonna be real I liked this vibe a little more than the main game’s vibe. No dlc is worth the money, but I at least didn’t regret buying this one.

Also the plot made me more emo than it should have gonna be real

THE FUCKING MUSIC GOES SO HARD. They only added a handful of tracks but they all slap

All the extra writing they did for the royals when they meet themselves or a retainer holy shit dude, some of those hurted

Setting

The setting is much more grimdark in this (as much as this game can be anyway). Just having conflict baked into the world does a lot for the vibe

The world is very bleak and filled with animosity, grief and pain but also those who would try to persevere despite that

Very fun seeing all the vibe swapped kingdoms even if they were quite superficial. Love the mirrored map too

Plot

Aight I think one of the themes for this dlc was love and aaaa I think that’s so sweet

Familial love between Nel & Nil/Rafal + Four Winds

Romantic love between Nel and her divine dragon

The distinct changes in the relationships between all the royal sibling duos I think also kinda focuses on the lack of familial love they share in this world vs your world

Also just how Rafal has just been searching for validation and meaning (i.e. love) and not getting it through his thick skull that everyone around him love him until the end

The twist villain was fun, I saw it coming, but not cuz the game was obvious I’m just too genre savvy (in fact I think a little foreshadowing could have been cool)

I think the Nel evil fake out was cool, but it was resolved way too fast, esp because they teased it in the trailer, but didn’t really go anywhere with it

I really liked the ending!

Nel saying she knew Rafal replaced Nil all along but still grew to care about him all the same

Nel saying she can’t bare to lose another sibling so instead she’d die to take Rafal’s pain away

Rafal refusing to let Sombron’s “curse” on the dragon stone dictate his actions. He was a shitter all of his own choice, he doesn’t regret it and he’d do it again

Not getting to tell Nel his true name before she died

Saying he’ll stay with her for a thousand years until she wakes up

Alear saying they are invited to come over to his world and Rafal in response saying no, but also that 1000 years is a long time so maybe that could change

THEM BEING THE LAST TWO PEOPLE ALIVE IN THIS WORLD

I get why, but I wish we didn’t get Nel and Rafal as units, because after having that whole emo ass see you later and knowing Alear has to wait 1000 years to see them again is so bittersweet, but then you literally get them back after the end credits because whoops I guess time moves differently there now

Characters

I like the dragon siblings a lot actually. They have interesting personalities and their dynamic is insane, especially after the thousand years when Rafal was able to reflect.

The other three however, Zelestia, Gregory and Madeline, I don’t like that much

They essentially took these villains who had fun quirks and were somewhat interesting, but sanitized them and made them SUPER boring.

I get what the devs were trying to do. They made the villains sympathetic and then created a way for you to have them on your team in some capacity. The thing is, these three are so different they are basically different characters, so it doesn’t even fulfill that want

Added on the fact that they don’t have supports with anyone outside of their squad so we don’t even get to see what other character’s reactions are to seeing people who look like the Four Hounds but aren’t them (not that there was much of a reaction anyway since according to Madeline they were all welcomed easily)

I think they should have just found a way to redeem the Four Hounds OR bring their other world counterparts but have the other world counterparts be more or less the same, but maybe fighting on the “good” side still with the dragon sibs

As for the personality swapped royals, I found some of them quite interesting like Alfred, Celine, Hortensia and Diamant. Alcryst was also fun but he was just quite literally a true opposite to himself. Fogado was fun but WHY was he like that. The game doesn’t tell me soooo. Timerra and Ivy were just funny, I’m sorry.

I think what they should have done is instead of just trying to make everyone a true opposite (still not over the Timerra being vegetarian and hating music) they should have taken one important part of the character and changed it, but then kept everything else the same.

Take Timerra. Keep the fact that she’s more stoic and less flexible in this world but maybe she still loves music, but doesn’t have time for it or it has less priority in her life

Stuff I Think Would Be Neat

This is just my “oh what if they did this?” section, it doesn’t really have much to do with my opinion on the game

I think if evil emblems talked this game would have been so fuckin juicy. Like you have fused with these people, they know everything about you, if they were evil they could tear you apart and I think that’s fuckin metal. I just want Marth to be evil and mean as a treat

Past Alear being actually evil would have been super interesting, esp if after dying a second time they only retained their evil memories and briefly turned on their allies

EVEN BETTER: if they made it a gameplay mechanic! Like Alear is red and fighting on the enemy phase

I think limiting the units you have on each map on the xenologue to the relevant royals and retainers would be good too. Since everyone is a default class anyway you don’t lose anything and it invites you to get all the special dialogue with the royals and retainers

C!Puffy lore infodump/ramble

I was talking with a friend about c!puffy and now that I take a good look at her character, she's such an interesting character and I love everything about her. 

(if you're too lazy to read the very disorganized rambling, there is a tldr at the bottom ^^ /nm /nf)  

first off, she’s so good to c!tommy like genuinely wanted to see him get better and was there for him, wouldn't get mad at him for acting like a child, and was just so chill. I mean I could be misremembering, but I remember being like “damn I'm glad SOMEONE is acknowledging the kids of the dsmp are mentally ill” (in ref. to the whole c!puffy therapist arc) 

side note: the theropay stream with puffy and tommy was honestly very fun and just yes. 

also she was that bitch?? /pos she's a good friend and wants to lead her friends to the right path, like was fully willing to help bbh figure out what the egg was when the egg was first discovered, then she realized like “okay maybe the egg isn't good” and was willing to fight for what she believed is right. 

when she realized how corrupt the eggpire was?? that moment gave me chills. she fucking destroyed the mini egg thing that was built, then wrote something along the lines of “fuck the eggpire” in the sand with the scattered remains of that mini egg. like that was so powerful and you could feel the anger c!puffy felt towards the eggpire without her flat out saying it. she was the leader of the omelet brigade-squad thing, and got Technoblade and I believe also Phil, two of which are very very powerful allies, on her side, (didn't she get the entire syndicate on her side?? /genq its been a bit since I’ve watched the lore.) 

together, they all plotted to take down the eggpire at the banquet. like in my opinion, this shows just how good of a leader puffy can really be. things went a little south but her and quackity and the other anti-egg members still could take them down! thats just so cool and badass. 

the whole “ANTFROST- YOURE DEAD.” -C!puffy scene is still one of my favorite scenes to this day, I think. top 10 puffy coolest moment methinks. but also she had to watch her son die as a sacrifice, which his death was very symbolic when you think about it but also god that was really fucking sad too. 

and then like the whole mysterious past that she cant really remember? but what we do know is that she was once a captain of a pirate ship? its just so cool like I'm a sucker for pirates. 

I also think that the monologues her character went on how she's pissed with everyone, especially the adults of the server, and how she is done with everything, etc., is very fair. like after all the shit she's seen and went through, yeah man I’d be just about done as well. pop off I'm also just a sucker for monologues LMFAO

and as someone who draws, I’ve always had a blast drawing her character. its such a fun character design, v fun to color. (I should draw her again) 

tldr; c!puffy is a very capable leader, cc!puffy has written an amazing character, cool pirate woman pog. I think puffy’s anti-egg arc is one of my favorite character arcs, and she's a criminally underrated character. c!puffy my absolute favorite.

There's a fucking Godsend of a site for like if you play DnD and need to create character models for campaigns or if you're just a silly little person and want to make your silly little gay characters.

The website is Hero Forge and it's free, they offer a subscription which just lets you get to test Beta stuff early and gives you a few extra things, but even if you don't have Beta you're still set. And they don't force you to set up credit card info when you sign up so that's pog.

Plus as of this month they're finally giving you the option to add two characters onto one pedestal, something that was in Beta since last year. And they're going to add a lot more with unique customization and kitbashing likely being added next year. Essentially you'll be able to toggle things you couldn't and give your characters more depth, as in non-Beta the face customization is a bit lackluster in my opinion.

But like here's an example of some of the funky gay people you too can make :)

I'm mainly making this post to hopefully spread it so more people can make funky lil models of people. Plus if you're only used to drawing in a certain way this is a good way to really visualize your characters.

tbh I don't have much to say about him lol I don't think about him enough. I will say, from the content I've seen of him, I think he has good fans! Like childe stans (to me) feel like wholesome people? y'all don't seem to do him dirty at all and I greatly appreciate the memes and funny content as well as the serious fanwork about him; it gives him good depth and made me consider things I hadn't before! In terms of his actual character, I think his duality of being a caring brother and a fearsome harbinger is v interesting!! idk I feel like he'd have an interesting if slightly messed up perspective on life (good with kids; separates work and personal life; and yet extremely battlesexual). he's a malewife a harbinger a dead-eyes abyss survivor a pro-fisher the brother of all time a guy with no common sense and one braincell only aka he's hilarious! I enjoy his character from afar (also I'm gonna say from all the popular-ish childe ships I've seen, none of them are unrealistic pog to you guys for having taste.)

I don't think about her much either but I have more opinions about her lol. #1 opinion is always that she had So Much potential with chongyun, and then mihoyo dropped the trailer and never mentioned their aunt/nephew dynamic again (voicelines don't count). I also don't like how she seems to be designed as another fanservice-y cryo woman who's semi """in love""" with the traveler (ie some of her interactions with the traveler in the archon quest and her dialogue after you completed the moonchase main questline). Like I understand that the traveler is her first connection to mortal Liyue after being away in the adeptal sphere for so long and the traveler is supposed to be a major part of her arc but it’s giving “cryo woman is shown another side of society that she didn’t know before by the traveler” (ie Ayaka and Eula) and it’s kinda hrmmm. moving onto her actual lore, this is the part where everyone but me is wrong abt her (I’m joking.) I’m not well versed enough in xianxia tropes to talk but she draws a lot from that and being like a recluse from society because she’s been unlucky from birth; I appreciate the culture stuff in that but I feel like it also makes her misinterpreted not me seeing a post about how she has yang energy like chongyun??? she has yin energy if ever I saw it. Anyways maybe I’m not looking in the right place but I also feel like she has less fanon character depth than I’d like ;.; her most popular ships are meh to me (confused on why Yun Jin is shipped with her bc to me Yun Jin’s a minor) but I love the small doodles of shenlan a Twitter artist does <3333

LOVE THIS DUDE. He’s HILARIOUS I don’t think about him enough. I’m absolutely in love with whatever his CN VA did with him bc ittos loud and long “HAHAHAHA” lives rent free in my head since he dropped on the livestream. His story quest was also super nice!! 🥺 idk if you’ve played it yet so I won’t spoil anything but they did his character really nicely and the way they expanded on the oni lore was also super cute!! also the cutscenes were 100% amazing. Idk I like that genshin finally made a heart of gold himbo who’s been through some tough days but still keeps looking up; his character complexity and overall personality is v nice!! I also like whatever him and Yoimiya’s rivalry/r/ship is in general it’s funny. I think he was a bit too much comic relief (and not enough actual character) in perilous trails but it was funny so I’ll let it slide. anyways i don’t think enough about this man he slaps.

He's the direct antithesis to his wife's glee when she sits the little monster atop her palm and brandishes it like a trophy. " He lives! "

The former Furby she'd once been gifted by a subscriber fortunately perished in the fire begotten by the explosion at their former ground-floor apartement. It was the only benefit to come from their home, engulfed in flames. Nix has quietly missed the thing she once sat on the coffee table in the living room, so it would stare at him day in day out and garble it's useless shit.

Arthur's shoulders both deflate. He's buried under the weight of Nix's glee. " Fuck. "

now i was going to put this further down but i really want to explain what im pretty sure is my biggest unique design choice and why i am FERAL about it, and it's the crown, the literal Bejewelled, Gilded, Crown of Thorns

Description pulled straight from wikipedia: 'The image of the crown of thorns is often used symbolically to contrast with earthly monarchical crowns.' and in explaining how it was used against Jesus 'to cause him pain and to mock his claim of authority'

So obviously techno's minecraft skin has a crown and that's the basis for it; my cosplay had to have a crown, but in the SMP he's a chaotic anarchist, it's his core ideal!

so it's a REMINDER, to himself and to all those who see it; no kings, no government, no one person should reasonably claim authority over a land. no matter how pretty it looks its always a crown of thorns.

ANYWAYS NOW I HAVE TO FINALLY PROPERLY THANK THE ARTISTS WHO ARE THE REASON THIS COSPLAY LOOKS AS GOOD AS IT DOES

TOP OF THE LIST BAYBEEE @wolfythewitch 's Techno design which was the one that I initially saw and felt the need to cosplay, and their redesign too!!

Things from their design I want to point out in my cosplay that are SPECIFIC homages:

THE BOOTS THE BOOTS THE BOOTS I LITERALLY WOVE MY GOLD EMBROIDERY THREAD INTO SUITABLE LACES THIS YEAR BECAUSE THE OLD ONES WERE TOO YELLOW AND I LOVE THE RICH GOLD MORE

their design is specifically why i use the sclera contacts!!! i feel like its such a striking and unique design detail i knew that my techno cosplay had to have them!! (should also note that it was incredibly difficult to see out of but I still say it's worth it)

the shirt and the red jewelled bolo tie!! love it!!

and the other piece of art that heavily influenced my cosplay was @that-sweet-jester 's FLUFFY HAIR POG piece specifically, like you can see in my version from last year how flat my wig was, but this piece had my whole entire heart and I knew i needed to replicate the volume and style, so i spent HOURS steaming and combing and i put the whole wig in rollers and steamed it with the help of a drag tutorial and fluffed it and it took SO MUCH EFFORT but im SO PLEASED with how it turned out!!! Also their techno has a plethora of gold piercings and pointy ears and as someone with a ton of piercings I LOVED that and so when I put on my prosthetic ears, several of the piercings go through several of my own piercing holes to anchor the prosthetic, including my stretched lobe, which i don't think you really see a lot of :)

but ahhhh let me just ramble about the details for a little bit because the devil was SO in the details and I finally got it to look the way I wanted to!!!

the vibe of the outfit was very much backed on SAD-ist's Hog Hunt animation which gives me chills every time I watch it, and i just want to give off the same vibes as Hog Hunt with my cosplay, and a lot of the little details literally allude to my techno being specifically from when he was being hunted by the Butcher Army:

POTIONS; splash potions of strength, invisibility, and regeneration. i screenshotted from techno's butcher army vod to make sure i had the correct ones. i think i'm going to do proper labels for them so they also say the specific effect. but im happy as fuck with them for now!! Notes: they are remote control light up, and have chameleon powder in them that doesn't disolve in water, which means they look good when I'm still and the powder is settled at the bottle and the light shines through the coloured water, and they look good when I'm walking and not lit up because when they're shaken-

TOTEM OF UNDYING; gold leaf added around the eyes and his little hands, he used to light up but his batteries are unfortunately dead and there's literally no way for me to replace them but he looks good anyways. SO MUCH HOT GLUE

CAPE it used to have a hood but I removed it and kept the fur trim, I also removed the tie that kept it on and added some thin, curved, sturdy wood into the collar so it would keep its shape and not fall off. I bought the cape itself on aliexpress and it came with the gold beading which is an homage to the gold OF on his mc skin without adding an OF... tho I might for next year. And I definitely want to make the trim thicker and neater for next time

The gold chain fastners/ornaments on the cloak near the collar are little tridents !!

the other creator I have to pay respect to is @poodwattle (yes the one who creates all the sick as hell DSMP weapons) as his Orphan Obliterator from last year is the reason I used chameleon powder to make my own look enchanted!! the only part of the sword that i am not responsible for is the base of the blade, but the handle is 100% my creation, as is the handle and pommel, as well as the painting and detailing. each of the sigils on the sword is a real sigil that i found on witchblr but have unfortunately lost the originators of, but i wanna explain the sigils and their connections to the enchantments on the sword:

Fire Aspect II (sets target on fire) - SIGIL: I am connected to the element of fire.

Sharpness V (increases attack damage dealt to mobs) - SIGIL: Destruction & Revenge

Sweeping Edge III (increases damage of sweep attack) - SIGIL: Radiate Power

Unbreaking III (increases durability of item, in effect, by decreasing the chance of the tool, weapon, or armor taking durability damage when used) - SIGIL: I am Unbreakable.

time is the only reason i didn't add Mending and Looting III but i think im going to try and add them before my next outing, as well as a few modifications to the handle itself, but overall i'm so fucking pleased. the blood was probably the hardest part about it and im so glad it looks the way it does!!

the blue holds a very special place in my heart as i didn't actually make it, but in fact, my darling friend @vxidpxnk made it and gave it to me as ender's working on a ghostbur cosplay and im sentimental

other detail-y bits i want to mention

thigh bag - i literally had this laying around the house before i even wanted to cosplay techno but i think it works so well

finger armour and rings!! i just love the vibe, so the finger armour on my non-sword hand and rings on the sword hand :)

TEEF!!!! made from thermal plastic i realised it was fucking difficult to use the hot water method to change and mold the shape once i was happy with how it fit on my tooth so once i got a general idea and a good tooth fit i let it cool outside of my mouth and literally carved it to the final desired shape with a heated scalpel and im SO PLEASED!! do you know how hard it is to make protruding bottom tusks when you have an overbite? BECAUSE I DO

i want to make a stylised pickaxe for if i ever take this cosplay out again, but in the meantime im finishing beekeeper tubbo and designing my HUGE FUCK OFF DREAMXD cosplay that is going to be more work than techno was and already im both exhausted and excited.
