It's the sign for the last chapter, do you have any regrets?
It seems like your turn on stage has come.
There will be no rerun; that's why I have to go.
I won't avert my eyes anymore.

Not to be a fucking weeb, but I'm just so glad we live in the era of anime that we live in
Back in the day characters would have the most homoerotic declarations of friendship to each other and you'd still have to argue with people on the internet over subtext
Like unless you were watching a show explicitly about girls being gay you'd never get anything more than a "you're my dearest friend" said in a tone that made the word "friend" buckle from all the work it has to do
But now we have gays piloting robots, gays playing in rock bands, gays getting isekaied, gays playing underground golf for the mafia
And it's all so delightfully blatant
In Witch From Mercury when Suletta makes the cliche "but we're both girls" line, Miorine just comments on how backwards Suletta's planet must be
Then you have Kita, from Bocchi the Scissor Rock, directly saying that she has a crush on Ryo, and Ryo openly talking about how much of a chick magnet she is
Anisphia from Magical Revolution is even more blatant, straight up shouting at the screen "if I fall in love with anyone it's gonna be with a woman!" a statement that may not be taken all that seriously by her father, but definitely by her future father in law
Not to mention Aoi and Eve from Birdie Wing who - even tho they don't fully understand their crushes for each other - are so stupidly gay for each other that their two best friends refuse to let them share a room, because they don't trust them alone together for an entire night
In short it's a good time to be a lesbian who is into anime and I'm so happy to see how much things have changed in the last few years
Can't wait for the Chainsaw Man anime to get to the international assassin's arc so we can have an even more wonderful time as gay weebs
Now give gay men and trans people the same treatment you fucking cowards

trendsetter (i had depression before it was cool)
tim&kon, hints of romantic timkon 2.3K also on ao3
Conner's a good friend, but it's not just being a good friend that told him exactly how to be there for Tim in the Paris underground. He knows how to navigate depressive spirals because he's been there a time or two himself.
/////
The Mario Kart loading screen is dark, and after at least two hours of gaming, it feels like a welcome break to Kon's overloaded senses.
But before Kon can truly relish it, Tim recognizes the still and quiet, too. The feeling of finally being alone together, for one fleeting moment, before the bright noise colors their walls again.
"I don't think I thanked you enough, for Paris," is all Tim says. "So. Thank you. For being there. For believing me. I know with the timeline changes, it's all a little fuzzy. But I remember that you gave me something to hold onto. I needed it. Just -- thank you."
If Kon is being honest, it takes him a minute to realize exactly what Tm means. They've been to Paris a lot over the years for various hero business. But Kon thinks, there's probably only one thing Tim would be thanking him for. Tim's voice doesn't sound as empty and hollow as it did back then, but Kon can still hear it like an echo.
"You don't have to thank me for that," he says. "We're friends. It was important to you."
"Still." Tim's eyes don't break from the screen. Earlier he was fixated like the game was a case; now Tim just looks distracted. Thinking back to the time before, when everything was a mess and he was falling apart. Kon is just glad he can say -- confidently -- that Tim is no longer on the ledge. "I know my reaction to you coming back to life was -- lackluster."
"You made up for it." Kon's a little distracted, too. He taps one of his fingers against the game controller, separate from the buttons. Impatient, suddenly; not enough input from his side of things to make the game occupy all of his brainspace. He wishes it would. If he was racing Bart at the version of the game that was triple-speed, then maybe this would work, but he's racing Tim on normal speed, and- "You're happy I'm back. You're happy a lot of people are back, man. You couldn't just focus on me, I knew there were other people you were still either grieving or trying to save. It's all good."
Tim almost-smiles, but it's as much a purse of his lips. "You don't think you deserved a little more of a welcome-back?"
Kon actually rolls his eyes. "Does it matter? We're not going to mess with time travel, so if you're bummed about how you responded, don't be, 'cause it's not like we can change it."
Tim huffs though his nose.
"Besides, I've been there. Where you were." Kon says it like it's no big deal, but he feels Tim tense next to him. Kon fixes his eyes a little more pointedly on the game, despite the creeping suspicion that Tim is watching him, now, instead of Rosalina. "It's -- everything. When you're that low, everything good is so far out of reach. When I saw you, I just figured... it'd be nice to give you what I wanted most back then."
"And that would be?"
Tim's voice is scarily even.
"Well. I mean, in lieu of getting all my dead- you know whats back," Kon says, and feels their ghosts like an itch in his spine. "...I could've used a friend."
Tim crosses the finish line first, but Kon doesn't look at him. The grip he has on his controller is tenuous at best. He's gripping it so tightly with Kryptonian strength that he thinks it should have shattered -- but his TTK is wrapped securely around it.
Physicists would love him.
"A friend," Tim repeats. "Kon..."
"Or," Kon says, swallowing very hard as the screen darkens again. "Just- someone who would just sit next to me and not make it weird, even if I felt like the biggest waste of space and most dangerous ticking time bomb on the planet. Even if I said I didn't need it."
Tim makes a sound like he's wounded. Which -- for Tim, is barely more than a choked-off breath. Not even vocalized, just a change in his breathing, like he's trying to control his heart-rate and junk.
Kon can't not listen to his heartbeat, though. Tim's right next to him, and he's never been very good at tuning out Tim's heartbeat when it's so close. Not when it's so familiar and comforting when he needs something to keep him grounded.
"Anyways," Kon continues. He presses the home button on the controller, and as player one, it takes them back to the loading screen. "You really don't need to thank me for anything, Tim. I just wanted to be there for you."
Kon wants to play the stoic hero so goddamn badly. But when Tim grips his knee and swivels Kon towards him, there's a small part that can't help but be relieved.
Conner Kent is many, many things. And a good friend is one of them. But whatever makes Superman the perfect, self-sacrificing, empathetic-but-stoic hero never got written into Kon's DNA.
"I didn't know what it felt like back then," Tim says, facing Kon now. And there's something so intense on his face that Kon breaks out into a sweat. Can't ignore that he's said something real, something that's given Tim this visceral of a response. "If I didn't know what it was like, I can't apologize for not knowing exactly how serious it was, especially when you shut me out."
For a second, Kon's heart reaches his throat.
This, he realizes. This is why he doesn't open up to people. Tim's reaction is so Bat that for a second, Kon actually wants to fly away and bury himself under a rock actually, because getting belittled for not reacting well to a major depressive state is, wow-
"Kon- Shit, that wasn't the best way to start out," Tim suddenly says, and Kon realizes that his face must reflect his feelings, because he feels like he's hovering on the ledge again, stripped of his powers again and about to jump without a flight ring. "I have a point. One that isn't-" He lets out another huff through his nose, frustrated with himself. "One where I don't act like an asshole."
Tim rests his hand on one of Kon's. The hands that are gripping the controller so tightly that it could shatter it the instant his TTK gives out.
Kon realizes Tim is trying to get him to let go. His chest does something funny; his heart beats all sorts of wrong. But he lets out a breath and, importantly, lets Tim take the controller from his hands before he breaks it.
"I was trying to say," Tim says, carefully unplugging the cord and winding it around the controller. "If I had known what it felt like, or what you'd needed, I would have been there. I thought you wanted to be alone, and I wanted to respect that. I never would have let you hide away like that, if I'd known."
Kon can't look at him. He stares instead at the cord and controller and the way the console is still glowing.
He reaches for the power button. It manages not to crack upon contact.
"I wasn't telling you this so you could feel bad," he finally says, and holds out a hand for Tim.
Tim stares at him a moment.
"Your controller," he says, and Tim's face has the tiniest flicker of hurt before he acquiesces his controller. Damn it. "I mean it. It was a while ago, and I just wanted to be there for you when you went through it. Now you know, so it's no big deal."
There's something in his friend's eyes. "I'd say it's a pretty big deal. I should have-"
"We're even, anyways," Kon interrupts him. "You did visit me both times, I was just in too deep a funk to let you in."
Kon can see the gears turning in Tim's head. Trying to pinpoint exactly when this happened.
So he decides to spell it out for him. "Once in Cadmus, with Bart. You guys helped me get my life a little more in order then, actually -- I'd been sleeping basically all day for weeks, and living on coffee the few hours I was up." He cracks the faintest smile. "I've always been a trendsetter, I guess."
Tim doesn't laugh.
Kon tries to pivot, rubbing the back of his neck as he leans away. "Anyways. You can guess the other time it got bad -- I mean, you came to the farm. I heard you. I just couldn't bring myself to answer. That's my own fault. So we're even. You tried, you just didn't know how to reach me."
Tim looks grieved at the very suggestion. Even with no lights on in the room, and the sun having set hours ago, Kon's night vision has always been pretty good. The shadows on Tim's face are haunting. "Has it happened again since you've been back?"
There are things Kon thinks probably could have set it off again. Having people skim over his death because it's too painful for them, nevermind that he was the one to die, for one. But that's an old hurt, now, years after the fact. Being erased from this timeline and forgotten by all his friends hurt more. Losing his entire timeline and all his civilian relationships; knowing that no one in this reality would perfectly remember their old lives. That was worse than coming back from the dead.
Worse, though, was knowing he didn't have the power to save his loved ones. That Tim had been killed, basically -- but snagged away to an alternate time instead. Either way, Kon had been none the wiser on Gemworld, and Tim could have died permanently, if not for that extradimensional save.
He wants nothing more than to save his friends. That's all he wants.
This timeline makes Kon feel so completely out of his depth.
He's tired, he realizes. It really is late. Maybe he ought to turn in for the night. Spend some time at the farm, or maybe visiting old haunts. See what all is different.
Something squeezes in his chest.
"Kon?" Tim's voice brings him back.
"I'm good," he says. "Thanks. For asking, noticing -- you know. But you can put those detective skills away for right now. I'm alright."
Tim's face tells him he absolutely does not believe him.
Kon sends him a trademark grin, and gently -- very, very gently -- punches his arm. "Relax. I'm a little tougher than you're giving me credit for right now. Which, boo. I just kicked your ass in like eight rounds of Mario Kart, could a depressed person do that?"
"Parks n Rec hasn't been quotable in two years," Tim says. "You need new material. Something that isn't bad 90s and early 2000s TV or a sitcom."
"Recommend something that doesn't suck and I will," Kon says. He stands then, exaggeratedly stretching. "You staying the night here in the Tower?"
He knows for a fact that Tim plans on going back to Gotham using a zeta tube. He's just being polite, reminding Tim that he doesn't expect anything more than Mario Kart and someone who cares without being overbearing.
"Yeah, actually," Tim says. Kon stares after him. "You still got the pullout bed? I'm not tired yet, and you've got a thing for falling asleep to TV, so. I could put on something that doesn't suck, and I can make fun of you for falling asleep to it anyway."
Kon feels something in his throat tighten.
A small part of him wants to chase Tim away and sit by himself in the dark. Let memories and increasing isolation drive him into a new type of forcefield; one that not even Kon will be able to control if it gets strong enough.
Tim turns the TV input to a streaming service before Kon can say no. "You'll like it," he says. Looks up at Kon, the tiniest shred of caution in his eyes.
Kon knows what he's playing at.
Unwilling to be driven out. Just this once.
The pressure on his chest loosens, just for a moment. "If you say so," he says instead of no. "You got me to watch the Wendy reboot last month and it fucking sucked, it was so boring. Even if the original show wasn't great at least it was never dull. But." He pauses. "If you're really staying over- Let me grab the blankets."
The smile on Tim's face is small, but it's there. "If you thought the reboot was bad, wait'll you see the movie. They fucked up everyone's character so bad -- I barely recognized Wendy."
Kon laughs as he pulls out the trundle, grabs a stock of old blankets and sheets that he can't remember buying in this timeline, which might not mean anything. "No. No way. How bad?"
"I tried to buy the movie studio just to prevent them from making the sequel," he admits. "But that's alright. We'll always have the original. Or -- you know. Other shows. New stuff, to watch together." Tim gestures to the TV. "There's a couple I think you'd like. C'mon, watch just one episode of Stranger Things with me, okay? If you hate it we'll put on something else."
It doesn't take much work, putting on sheets with TTK. It takes even less work, somehow, sitting down on it with Tim against his side.
"Okay," he says.
Three episodes in, Kon is still awake. Tim's on his shoulder, though, asleep -- and that means he's alright, and he's not leaving tonight. Whatever breakdown Kon is -- was? -- on the verge of, is going to be postponed a little while longer.
A friend to sit by you, he thinks. When everything's in a fog and the only thing you can manage is to screw up -- that's what he needs most.
He eventually falls asleep, long before the missing boy is found, and long before the mystery of the Upside Down is solved.
Netflix asks Kon, in the morning light, if he's still watching. He blinks, and Tim is solidly asleep against his chest. He thinks, maybe, everything will be okay.

2076
Tumblr media
"I'm tellin' ya, mano, this is only the beginning! A few months down the line we're gonna be Night City legends!"
Tumblr media
"I think before I wanna be a legend I'd just like to start feelin' like myself again..."
Tumblr media
The day Vince was sacked in November of 2076 was the newest low point of his life. He'd lost everything, from a job he was good at, financial security, to what he'd assumed had been friends. Over the course of the year his health had been on a steady decline, mentally and physically. His first so harmonious, almost too-perfect relationship with an older coworker had found an abrupt and bitter ending filled with betrayal. Jenkins' paranoia and revenge fantasies reached new heights, and several particularly precarious operations went wrong in a row. To cope with the stress, silence his depression and anxieties, and be able to keep up with his coworkers-turned-competitors' performance, Vince turned to substance abuse over the course of his last 6 months at Arasaka.
In Jackie's eyes, the termination of Vince's contract couldn't come soon enough, seeing his friend spiral and lose himself in the corporate mud more and more with each passing day.
Tumblr media
Like many times before - even though this one had been Vince's highest fall so far - Jackie helped him back to his feet. He and his mother took Vince in and kept him company through his withdrawal from both self- and corporate-administered drugs. Slowly but surely he got better.
From the first day they'd known, Jackie had always urged Vince to consider teaming up as mercs. Together they'd be one hell of a duo, muscle and tech, street-smarts and corporate education, guns and hacking. They'd make it far in Night City's underground world in no time, or so he thought.
By 2076, Jackie was a respected Solo, particularly in Heywood, but still far from achieving his dreams of becoming a legend - and really, those had always been Jackie's dreams alone. Sure, Vince wanted to leave an impact and be remembered, not just fade away into the shadows, but who didn't? Dying in a blaze of glory though, never reaching age 30, just for the money and fame, for doing other people's dirty work? He never saw the appeal... but also, so far he'd failed to find a satisfying middleground.
Tumblr media
By mid-December 2076 Vince had somewhat recovered, had been clean for a little over a month, but his cash started to run dry. The next time Jackie asked him to accompany him on a job - just a small one, a little favor for a choomba, nothin' dangerous or dramatic - Vince gave in and tagged along. "Just this once," he told himself, simultaneously looking for other job opportunities. He even considered going back into the corporate world, a smaller company, something less exhausting than Counterintel, maybe media, or a lowly techie position like Jenkins had intended for him originally.
But the small job went well, was fun, even. Jackie's enthusiasm had always been infectuous. After everything he'd done for Vince, he didn't think it fair to continue saying no to him and to something that indeed worked out better than he could have ever imagined... He still had no intentions of dying young, or a legend, but as Jackie put it: would be a shame to let all that Arasaka training go to waste, so why not use it to do some good with it, help themselves and others in their lives?
Vince through the years (6/9)
The set above is basically the followup to this VP comic I did a while ago, the evening after V's and Jackie's first job together.
Tumblr media
As mentioned, Vince was never eager to be a merc, and by early 2077 he simply treats it as one of his many previous part-time jobs: a way to keep a roof above his head, food on the table, and make use of his skills somehow. Maybe do some good, or at least leave a positive impact on a single person's life after 4 years of corporate scheming.
He is sort of picky with the gigs he takes, always weighs pros and cons. Sometimes he takes a gig he usually wouldn't out of sheer curiosity. But thievery and sabotage, even rescue missions, are really his favourite things to do because they come closest to what he did for Arasaka predominantly.
It really is easy money with his skills and knowledge, and also usually non-violent. I think that would be the main reason why he decides to go on with the Konpeki Plaza Heist with Jackie in the end, despite having a bad gut feeling. With the information they have it seems like something just down his alley, and he's very confident that he did his best in setting everything up. His biggest mistake is really putting so much trust in Dex doing his part for the preparation of the heist.
Vince is really used to his superiors just supplying him with all necessary info, no questions asked - both back at Arasaka and with the fixers he's worked with at that point, mainly Regina and Wakako. Both are thorough and reliable, do their work, hold nothing back that could be useful. He is also used to his team-members speaking up if they think something feels off. But I think T-Bug is in a similar boat as him, confident that all will go as planned, in her mind already in Cyprus. And Jackie, who just really really wants this to happen so badly, does not speak up despite potentially having a bad feeling.
So, even though Vince feels like all of it sounds too good to be true, everyone else involved being so confident and presenting themselves so competent, in combination with Jackie's aforementioned enthusiasm, convinces him that his own worries may be unjustified. He's overthinking, this can't go wrong, they were all really thorough, they can count on each other... right?
He'll learn the hardest way possible that on the street the saying "every man for himself" is even more prevalent than in the corporate world in the end.
(CW below for drug abuse talk!)
Little sidenote re: Vince's substance abuse. I often put great emphasis on the fact that he neither smokes nor drinks, one of the many reasons why Johnny pisses him off so much by doing both regardless and repeatedly whenever he's in control of his body later. Not smoking is really just Vince's personal preference here, but he actually wouldn't mind drinking now and then - his body is really just against him on this. He can't process alcohol well and just gets drunk and nauseous really quickly, even from "just a beer" or "just a glass of wine". So he avoids it, not for moral high ground reasons but more "I dont wanna puke my guts out and have a headache for three days" reasons.
Since drinking and smoking are off the table when it comes to numbing himself through his worst time at Arasaka, drugs are the next best thing. Initally it was just downers and sleeping pills, but when those started affecting his performance during daytime, he picked up neuroboosters and other performance enhacing stuff. It was a constant struggle to balance this drug-cocktail out, in combination with the canonical stress-blockers Corpo!V is on during the start of the game.
In short, by the time Vince is kicked out, he's a walking pharmacy and needs some time to readjust to a life without being constantly on something. He's doing his best to remain clean once he gets there... and he hates that taking pills is the one thing he can do to silence Johnny, cause it brings back a lot of bad memories and associations. It's probably one of the main reasons why he ends up talking to him more instead of just blocking him out like he used to block out everything else for a while. And even though he never fully trusts him, this way he at least gets to understand him better and gains his trust and understanding in return.

We're less than a week out from the official tournament start (hopefully, but don't quote me on that just yet), so now is the time to remind everyone that you can still submit additional propaganda for characters in the tournament here:

Currently trying to make an outline of my more relevant AU's and I'm struggling.
But on a different note I finally named them all.
Au 1 (My pjsk×bsd crossover) is now called "Chasing Light AU" which is named after the main group consisting of Atsushi, Naomi, Dazai and Chuuya
Au 2 (My mha×bsd crossover) is now called "Still Underground AU" which is named after the hit Eve song "We're still underground"
My non-crossover AU consisting of a main cast of Fukuchi, Young Yosano and Young Chuuya is now called "Firefly AU"
And well there are more less creative ones like my MILGRAM AU and my Erased AU and one thats got the title of an isekai anime ('cause I suck at titles)
All of these have Chuuya in them, I think my least Chuuya-centric AU's are my Hunter×Hunter crossover AU (he's still a part of the main cast) and my Pokémon crossover AU.

in regards to your recs (🎸)
kaikai kitan by eve: i love my pop rock and omg the guitar???? THE CHORUS IS SO CATCHY HELP ITS SO ??????? the slight hip hop influence in the second verse is so fun wowowowowow… and the instrumental bridge is carried out in such a fun manner… wow that was so good…
villain by teniwoha: oh the intro is so fun OH IT REMINDS ME OF GLITCH POP OHHH THE WAY IT ADDS MORE INSTRUMENTAL LAYERS AND PROGRESSES OHHHHHH okay my god the bass in between chorus and second verse so good oh OKAY this is random enough to keep interest but not too random that it’s just weird
show off (vocaloid ver) by 和田たちあき: this vocalist reminds me of the teniwoha one (like an electronic midi generated/edited vocal) and despite the differ in genre it’s STILL SO FUN i love the more traditional smoother/natural band set up instrumental it’s so cool and adds a contrast between the more disjointed electronic voice
dramaturgy by eve: it’s slightly more laidback than kaikai kitan but still as good OH THE SECOND PART OF THE CHORUS ?????? i’m not getting over this chorus it’s just???? the vocalist note rises are just so catchy… and the way it slowly leads into the chorus again… a tentative few lines of the chorus with less layers and then the finale.. wow
konoichi demo koi ga shitai by mikito p: the vocals have been slightly edited and it makes it more fun omg and the combo of electronic and traditional for the accompanying harmony… the electronic arpeggios in the background are so fun omg THE INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE WITH THE LIGHT LEAD GUITAR the way this song leads into chorus.. THE GUITARS… wow
i added these all to my playlist your music taste is SO good i cannot stress this enough wow……
HELLO HELLO!!!! omg i hope u know that complimenting my music taste means we're best friends now sorry i dont make the rules /j
anyways SO SO glad you liked all of them!!! im a BIG fan of energetic instrumentals and layering so im happy we agree there lol <3 if you like the more glitchy vocals and things that are more on the math rock side, id suggest checking out tsumiki's album sakkac craft which i have been listening to on loop for weeks now ngl, it just scratches my brain???
ALSO SPEAKING OF THE VOCALS ON THE SECOND THIRD AND FIFTH ONES, all three of those songs are made with vocaloids!!! villain uses the vocaloid flower, show off uses otomachi una, and kunoichi demo koi ga shitai uses both hatsune miku and kagamine rin!!! its really really amazing how people can make vocal synths work so well with all different ranges of instrumentals, yk??? and like all three songs are pretty different its a testament to how different vocaloid songs can be!!!
the other two, kaikai kitan and dramaturgy, are by eve who's genuinely one of my top artists? his song bokura mada underground is my number one of all time on spotify i think, i absolutely adore his work and he has a ton of it that's all over the place vibe-wise
anyways lol ill get off my little soap box here, ty for the thoughts and im happy you enjoyed the songs :D

#87: Bokura wa Mada Underground (We're Still Underground)
Ah, good, something that wasn't part of the city pop invasion. XD Let's see. This one actually still invokes vibes from a story I did with a friend of mine years ago called Waking Light. Especially the music video for this was very much the vibes of that story. Also because both of the protag girls had blue hair and the dude in both has kind of a dark past. I'm probably not gonna do much with Waking Light though except reminisce about it now and then. We had wrapped up the first story and were doing another one from a different characters' perspective, but since it was largely about my friends' char I don't really have much to reuse from it anyway. Blue-haired girl was definitely a vibe but she feels complete since we finished her story.
Waking Light was a story we did based on the vibe "bittersweet." We actually made a playlist for it but it's since been taken over by bots, a lot of weird songs got added to it I think because it was a public playlist? and I can't fix it since my friend owns the playlist :/ So I just remade it with all the songs for myself.
Anyways, it was a story about a girl named April Moon. She had aqua blue hair and liked abalone jewelry, rollerblading and parkour. The story explored her world in a sort of video game-like fashion as parts of the world and story were revealed, and it ended in something of a climactic battle between her and an AI that controlled her environment. I still like the vibes of the story a lot and I like to reminisce about it now and then, but I don't really have any plans to remake it currently. I guess since we finished April's story and the second story was about one of my friends' characters.
