Note
for the fandom ask thing if it is still open: how about vnc for 1, shin soukoku for 2 and vanitas for 3, because I am greedy, hehe
Ahahaha thank you!! I will take any excuse to procrastinate my lectures
This will get long so i'll put it under a cut
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
VNC
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: Vanitas, he is just my type fr. also Domi and Noé
Least Favorite character: Lord Ruthven, that man is so sus
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): vanoé, domijeanne, noé/domi, roland/olivier, idk who else. see my next discussion under "canon otp"
Character I find most attractive: Olivier ♡ and also Domi
Character I would marry: Domi 100%
Character I would be best friends with: Roland!!
A random thought: big fan of the theory that Murr is actually The Shapeless One
An unpopular opinion: the fandom focuses way too much on just vanoé and not on any of the other character relations or the amazing plot
My Canon OTP: not just if this counts as a romantic ship since Chloé d'Apchier never aged past age 11 even tho she's hundreds of years old but her bond with Jean-Jacques is just mwah chef's kiss ♡♡♡
My Non-canon OTP: vanoé yes i know what i just said as unpopular opinion about the fandom but also chapter 53 is right there
Most Badass Character: Roland, i love him
Most Epic Villain: idek if he counts as a villain but there's definitely something fishy with the Shapeless One and i think it's just going to get more epic from here on out
Pairing I am not a fan of: vanijeanne
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Jeanne, noooo she's not meant to like vanitas nooo mochijun what are you doingggg
Favourite Friendship: Noé and Domi, also Noé and Louis as much as it hurts............
Character I most identify with: Noé
Character I wish I could be: Domi, ugh her fashion sense
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
shin soukoku
002 | Send me a ship and I will tell you:
When I started shipping them: starting from their fight with Fitzgerald on Moby Dick, in particular when Akutagawa was like "the words from your past do not define who you are now"
My thoughts: omg so i caught up with the manga just in the middle of their fight with Fukuchi and it ended on the cliffhanger where Fukuchi was like @Akutagawa kill this boy and we were all like oh noooooo he absolutely would and in my mind during that one month where i had to wait for a new chapter for the first time, i was fretfully imagining so many different scenarios where Akutagawa wouldn't go against Atsushi because i was so sure he would but at least i could keep my little daydreams and yet NOTHING could have prepared me for what came next and i just ueueueueueueueueue muffled sobbing
What makes me happy about them: the way they want to understand each other so much and then they do and they actually cooperate and communicate each other which makes their partnership work so well
What makes me sad about them: chapter 88 haha hysterical laughter
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: when people write Atsushi as super shy and awkward even though he is arguably the least shy and awkward around Akutagawa and that's precisely what makes their interactions so good
Things I look for in fanfic: Akutagawa gets to smile and perhaps even laugh in joy
My wishlist: Akutagawa come back alive pls
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Atsushi with Lucy and Akutagawa with Higuchi even tho Higuchi deserves so much better
My happily ever after for them: Akutagawa alive
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Vanitas
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character: he's incredibly well-written, his real personality and backstory are so intriguing and he's characterisation makes so much sense yet leaves us wondering as to his true motives
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Noé
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: his brotherhood with Mikhail is SO interesting i'm not quite sure what to think but i do think it's amazingly written
My unpopular opinion about this character: when anime-onlys only consider his annoying personality that was introduced in the first episode and completely ignore how complex he is as a character. as to his characterisation itself, i didn't like his first non-con kiss with Jeanne at all, even though it goes with the act he was putting on it was still in bad taste
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Vanitas please just talk to Noé about stuff and things please stop being all ~mysterious~ and hiding everything from people who care about you
Favorite friendship for this character: him and Dante absolute besties
My crossover ship: idk i don't think i have any
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Fandom asks

Note
Technically you cannot ask people for credit for your cleaned edits under copyright laws... You don't own any of Mochijun works so even though you may of edited and cleaned it up you don't have any copyright claims too it. Technically even editing it the way you are is illegal and her team could hit you with dmca. Most manga teams won't but it's also not exactly fair to ask for credit on something you don't own if that makes sense.
Hi anon. I could have ignored this question, most likely the best thing to do would have been to ignore it, but I did not.
Yeah, I know about copyright/legality of sharing things on the Internet, no need to tell me what is written in the last page of all my volumes:
Tumblr media
And yet I will continue to ask for credit for the edits I make.
Of couse Square enix or Jun herself can come here and even without asking me to remove every vnc/ph related images they can just grab and throw this profile to hell and I would have to put up with it. It is something I know.
And yet I will continue to ask for credit for the edits I make.
This is a fandom. You enter Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit,... And you can find somethings like direct links, fanart, fanfics,... But most of the content comes from images taken directly from the manga/anime without changing anything. We are alive thanks to it: using for sharing the story we are reading, to comment some panels, to say X, to theorize, and a large etc.
And here we come to the section that you have talked about, anon: the edits. Sometimes are tiny things, sometimes are biggest post I have seen but always with a working hand behind it. This hands, that belong to people like me, are doing this (as the rest of the people of the fandom) for fun and without gain anything for it. I dont own the images I am editing, I only own the volume I bought and the time I use editing things from it. For that reason I use the need and not the must or the could. Because first, I am not a company that is going to sue you for not credit my edits and second, because I am not begging you for credit me. I am asking for it. Because it bothers me. To spend hours or even days modifying something to make it look clearer, brighter, striking, etc. And then I go and see other profile using it as it was made by them. It is time, you know? What I spend doing this little things and of course I am not obliged to make it, I do it because I want to and I like to. That will not eliminate the anger I feel at seeing someone else take credit for my time, you know?
Now then, to make it clear: I will not stop asking for credit for something I have used my time. And yet you can go and do whatever you want as common and use it without giving credits because not exactly fair to ask to credit on something you don't own. And you know what? I can't really do a shit about it. But then a day will come when people like me, or even myself, get tired of it and just stop doing things like this.
Once not so long ago this profile was nothing like it is nowadays: posting theories, edits and even fanarts. It was silent, used only to see, to like and to reblog. And I am sure it will be like that some day in the future again. And I am sure that day will come much earlier if I keep seeing things that I did and shared for the love of the story and the fandom as something made by someone else, if that makes sense.
If you thing about it, it's not that it's a great loss in a fandom or something like that.
And yet I will continue to ask for credit for the edits I make.
I hope this answers your question and clarifies your doubts, anon. If you still don't seeing my point or not agreeing with me, you can go and keep fucking me but I would advise you to just block me.

VnC Liveblog - Chapter 7
.All chapter liveblogs are linked HERE.
Hey, note for people following along: the last two chapters (5 and 6) didn’t show up on the main Vanitas no Carte tags because Tumblr filters out any posts that have outside links in them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But they’re done and the links for them are right up there. ^
Now, on to chapter 7!
Tumblr media
Methinks MochiJun is running out of art for the chapter covers. That’s okay, I like this guy’s face.
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD ARE WE GETTING WORLDBUILDING I AM EXCITED
So. Paracelsus. Famed physician and alchemist, called the Luther of medicine. He’s got a wikipedia page that I’m not gonna link to here *shakes tiny fist at tumblr* but probably the most interesting thing about him (if not the most important, in this context) is that ‘Paracelsus’ was his pen name. His real name?
Theophrastus von Hohenheim. Yeah. That von Hohenheim. Or at least the original one he was named after.
More pertinent, I think, is the fact that Paracelsus was a doctor, like our main character. He had a reputation for disdaining conventional medical thought (as this was the 1500s, this was not unwarranted) and for prioritizing practical experience over unproven theories preached by people with silly titles. Going by Vanitas’ fight with Orlok, I think he would have liked Paracelsus.
Tumblr media
With Paracelsus involved, we now have a timeline for Babel -- it occurred sometime during the first half of the 1500s, creating vampires, astermite, the border, and, apparently, a number of disasters.
(the sudden appearance of vampires among the human population might have been disastrous enough, but I wonder if there were other things that were thrown out of wack.)
I don’t...quite get this formula business yet, so I’m gonna wait to comment on that until it’s more clear.
Tumblr media
Nice job breaking it, Hohenheim.
This is like the tenth time the church has been mentioned, when are they gonna show up?
Tumblr media
Hello, Creepy Teacher. Still without eyes, I see.
Tumblr media
But not all coal and not all humans were altered.
And what is that on Teacher’s lapel, a clock with wings --
...time flies. You think you’re clever, don’t you.
Tumblr media
...he’s planning on using Noé, the last Archiviste. Noé is key to something. What are you planning, Creepy Teacher.
Tumblr media
Memoire 7 Bal Masque
Night of Sneering Masks
Lord Ruthven has a real swanky place, don’t he.
Tumblr media
On the one hand, I want to go to a ball like this. On the other, it is full of vampires. Who, admittedly, seem like fairly decent people on average -- when they’re not losing their minds and going on murderous rampages.
Kinda looks like the Charlatan parade, though, no?
Tumblr media
Hm, Domi is a bit shorter than Noé than I thought she was.
Tumblr media
...wait, wait, wait, hold up. let’s zoom in here.
Tumblr media
that’s Domi??? that looks like Unnerving Boy. crap, is she Unnerving Boy? i was joking about that before.
Tumblr media
Glad I’m not the only one making that connection. The narrative wants this decadence to remind us of Charlatan. re: we shouldn’t trust it.
Tumblr media
Domi: That guy’s gonna keep a low profile, right?
Vanitas: *seducing ALL the ladies at the ball*
Tumblr media
Y’all knew he was an unrepentant grandstander. What did you expect.
(note: Vanitas knows sleight of hand)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(note: vampires can smell humans)
Tumblr media
Hahahahaha, “I don’t understand how vampires define ‘friend’“ is my new favorite line, right along with “several different kinds of unfortunate”.
Tumblr media
So my question is, can he only see the memories while he’s drinking? Or can he revisit them whenever he wants?
Tumblr media
Vanitas adapted to the usefulness of that collar real quick.
Tumblr media
I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN, I KNEW THAT DUM-DUM WOULD LEAVE THESE TWO ALONE AND SHIT WOULD HIT THE FAN
this is gonna be good
Tumblr media
So spoketh Dominique de Sade. Never has a character been more aptly named.
(yo, is that Ada’s iron maiden. and a tortured stuffed white rabbit in the corner, too. the spirit of Vincent is alive and well.)
Meanwhile...Noé has found a new toy.
Tumblr media
precious cinnamon roll, too pure, etc etc
Tumblr media
ohoho, I think we know this kid.
Tumblr media
HI, LUCA. And Jeanne can’t be that far away.
Tumblr media
These guys are bodyguards, or retainers? Dressed like plague doctors, nice touch.
Tumblr media
Luca (Lucius?), this is the man who held you hostage, why you lying.
Tumblr media
Uh-oh. Something is clearly wrong with Jeanne.
...you might even say, she should probably see a doctor. *baddum-ting* (I think she’d prefer to die of consumption)
But it seems to be something she’s suffered from before? Is it her breathing or her throat?
Tumblr media
Likely the same sister who lent Domi the collar and chain. Sister has interesting hobbies.
“I was all excited!” Yeah, this game is gonna be called Ha Ha, Surprise, I’m Kinkier Than You.
Tumblr media
Point, Vanitas.
Tumblr media
But Domi rallies nicely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where we start getting real; Domi doesn’t fuck around when it comes to Noé. But does she really need to threaten to carve out Vanitas’ eye with a knife??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...throw more knives at him, Domi.
Tumblr media
This is why you need to learn to keep your mouth shut, Vanitas. (also check the misogyny, I don’t want you to turn into Vincent, please)
Tumblr media
She brings up some very good points.
Ooo, and it looks like something she said hit home. ...or one of the knives stabbed him. Nah, the black border means a brief flashback of some kind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Vanitas hates the Vampire of the Blue Moon. Well, well.
So why did he take his name?? And his Book???
(omg, did he steal the Book)
Tumblr media
He’s cracked. He’s gonna do something stupid and/or reckless.
Tumblr media
HE’S GONNA THROW HIMSELF BACKWARD OFF THE BALCONY.
Well, he did say he was gonna get their attention.
(”you’re worried about Vanitas? you should be worried about me.” “no, wait, i mean, i’m here to save vampires. yes. out of the goodness of my bitter heart.”)
Tumblr media
The chandelier’s made of bones, it’s a vampire ball, why wouldn’t it be.
Poor Domi’s like, ‘crap, I pushed the punk too far.’
Tumblr media
The cajones on this kid.
Like, seriously, isn’t he supposed to be hiding the fact that he’s human...?
Tumblr media
This is revenge for always wandering off and disappearing, Noé.
Tumblr media
The gloves are coming off again and this time it’s not a bluff.
Tumblr media
Holy crap, that’s a lot more extensive than I thought it’d be. Looks a lot like the moon and spider-webbed sky above Altus Paris, doesn’t it? And this mark is lower on his arm than we saw earlier.
Actually, let’s go back and compare. This is from chapter 4 --
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in chapter 4, we saw marks on his left arm. But...is it the same kind of mark? And how many marks does he have?
Tumblr media
Branding is something you do to livestock.
Tumblr media
The eyes look like the moon look like the brand. (ha, how much you want to bet the moon over Altus Paris is red and Vanitas’ mark is blue)
And the hourglass is front and center once again. He wears that thing for a reason and that reason is connected to the Vampire of the Blue Moon.
So was he really granted some kind of power, or is this another bluff? Then again, the power could be the ability to use the Book.
Tumblr media
I’m starting to think the Vampire of the Blue Moon isn’t the only one who hates vampires...
(”fighting monsters is best left to other monsters”)
Tumblr media
I would not trust a doctor who looked at me with a face like that, i’m just saying
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now this crusade to save the vampires makes much more sense.
In doing this, not only will Vanitas get the pleasure of having the vampires he’s curing at his mercy, but with each vampire he saves he sticks it to the Vampire of the Blue Moon.
This was never a charitable cause. This is a fuck you to the entire world, the original Vanitas in particular.
Tumblr media
Everyone: “oh shit, this guy’s even crazier than we thought.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did he...not mean to say that part out loud...? Or did he see something in the crowd?
Guess we find out next chapter! Which is -- HERE.

Vanitas no Carte timeline
Warning! This post contains spoilers for all VnC chapters!!
So I made a timeline of events for the other manga series I’m heavily invested in a while back, and realised that it helped see a lot of things much more clearly, thus I decided to also put together one for VnC. This manga is hella confusing because it mixes real history events with fiction, and MochiJun has a tendency of dropping flashbacks out of order, so hopefully this will help us all gather our thoughts on everything that’s going on >.<
I’ve divided the post in four sections: World History, Vani’s Childhood, Noé’s Childhood, and Noé & Vani’s Journey.
As with my terminology post, I’ll try my best to keep this updated with new info!
If you spot anything that I’ve missed feel free to drop me a comment or an ask ^^
WORLD HISTORY
**A good chunk of this section is mostly crafted on the basis that VnC universe history matches our own history, save for the cataclysmic event known as Babel. Most of it is just assumptions I’m making until MochiJun says otherwise??? I’ve also included a few dates related to the monarchs mentioned within the story.
15thC: --- 1493: The alchemist Paracelsus is born.
~Sometime~ in first half of the 16thC: In the first half of the 16thC, the catastrophe known as Babel occurs (M.7). As Paracelsus is responsible for it, it must've happened whilst he was alive and of an age where he could conduct such experiments. --- 1541: Paracelsus dies, according to real history. However we do not know much about the man and it is possible his death date is different in the VnC universe, or that he died during Babel. It could also be MochiJun is using his RL death date is the day Babel happened.
~Sometime~ between the second half of the 16th & 19th centuries: --- People begin to fear vampires because of their powers, and the church defines them as “those who warp the principles of the world God has created.” Humans begin hunting vampires (M.15). --- There was a great war between humans and vampires. The war ends with the victory of the human side, and vampires all disappear beyond the border. Humans believe vampires to have been eliminated. --- The war ends and Jeanne “The Hellfire Witch” is put into an induced slumber (M.4).
--- 1715: Louis XV ascends the throne --- 1764 ~ 1767: Beast of Gévaudan attacks –- 1774: Louis XV passes away. --- 1775: Louis XVI ascends the throne. --- 1793: Louis XVI passes away.
~Sometime~ in the 19thC: --- Paris decides most of the steam engines in the city should swap to using Astermite as a source of power rather than coal (M.5). Because of this present day Paris is much cleaner. --- Assuming the Eiffel Tower dates match the VnC universe Tower of the Sun dates, the Tower of the Sun begins construction in January 1887 and is completed in March 1889. --- The story takes place sometime between the construction of the Tower of the Sun and the Exposition Universelle of 1889. If the Tower of the Sun we see in M.21 is complete, and assuming yet again Eiffel Tower construction dates travel into the VnC universe, we can narrow the current timeline to somewhere between March ~ May (opening of the expo) 1889.
--- 1804: Napoleon Bonaparte is crowned. --- 1814: Napoleon abdicates, passes away in 1821.
VANI’S CHILDHOOD
--- Young Vani’s parents are killed by a vampire. A Chasseur saves him from said vampire, and the Church begins to train him so that he may to become a Chasseur. Somewhere along the line he catches Moreu’s eye and becomes his research subject (M.16). --- The Vampire of the Blue Moon rescues Vani (then Nº69) and another boy (Nº71) from Moreu’s lab. --- At some point, TVotBM leaves a mark of possesion on Vani.
NOÉ’S CHILDHOOD
Pre-adoption Noé: Noé is allegedly found by a old human couple, crying alone on a snowy day --- Noé does not remember these events. They take care of him until “Grandpa” gets sick and dies, and “Grandma” goes to sleep one day and never wakes up. He goes out looking for flowers to put on their graves and is kidnapped, supposedly by vampires who thought he was a human child. It is unclear how old he is or how much time passes between him being found and the old couple dying.
Noé’s adoption: M.6 flashback. Young Noé is sold on the black market as an Archiviste survivor, and bought by Grandaddy “sensei” de Sade. --- Beginning of M.9 flashback events (p.1~8.) Noé is brought to Sensei’s castle and meets Domi & Louis for the first time. As he is still wearing the same clothes he is seen wearing when Sensei buys him off the black market, it is likely this happens immediately after he is bought. --- M.7 flashback events (p.1~7). Sensei  tells Noé about the “World Formula” theory and the origins of vampires. It is likely this happened almost immediately after he buys Noé, as he is still wearing that bandage around his left eye. --- M.9 flashback events (p.9~11.) Noé’s left eye is no longer bandaged. He tastes Domi’s and Louis’s blood for the first time, not yet fully comprehending his powers.
Youth Noé: M.23 flashback. Noé drinks the blood of a boy in the village and sees his memories without his permission; the boy calls him “disgusting.” Sensei tells Noé that vampires do not need to drink blood to survive, and tells him that though liking blood is not a crime, because Noé is an Archiviste he must be careful. --- M.5 flashback events. Noé refuses to drink blood because he is an Archiviste, even though he loves drinking it. Louis approaches him and invites him to drink his blood, because he won’t have to look into his memories. --- M.9 (p.12~19) flashback events. Noé shows Domi the blue moon*. Louis discovers he is a curse-bearer and confronts Sensei about it. He begins to carve wooden stakes. ((* The flashback pages in M.1 where Sensei explains to Noé that vampires normally dislike the blue moon probably happen on this same night, too.)) --- Beginning of M.2 flashback pages. Louis explains to Noé what a curse-bearer is, and asks if he could still find the blue moon beautiful if he saw one before him. Louis is seen carving wooden stakes already, so it is understood that this scene must’ve happened after he discovered he was a curse-bearer. --- ~Sometime~ in this time frame, M.15.5 events occur. Noé and Domi crawl into Louis’s bed one night. We see a hint of pain when Domi suggests Louis is “lucky,” so it is understood he already knows he is a curse-bearer. --- M.9 (p.18~end) & M.10 (p.1~8) flashback events. In an attempt to save their friend Mina, a curse-bearer, Noé and Domi are almost killed. Louis saves them but loses control of himself and attacks Noé. Sensei comes back just in time and beheads Louis. Noé is devastated by the loss and disappointed in his inability to help Louis.
--- ~Sometime~ after Louis’s death, Domi switches from using the gender-neutral pronoun 私 (watashi) for I, to using the mostly male-exclusive pronoun 僕 (boku).
Present day: Noé spends half a year without seeing Sensei (information supplied in M.13.) He receives a letter from him, imploring him to go on a journey to discern the true nature of the Book of Vanitas, and engage with the story of the people surrounding it.
NOÉ & VANI’S JOURNEY
Day 1: M.1 & beginning of M.2 events. Vani and Noé meet aboard La Baleine. It’s night already, and they fall off when the blue moon is high in the sky. They wander around the streets of Paris and are caught by the police.
Day 2: M.2 ~ 4 events. Noé and Vani spend the remainder of the night in a prison cell. Because of Eglantine’s poison in his veins, Noé is out cold for 10 hours. It is bright outside when they leave, but it is unclear whether it’s morning, afternoon, or evening. (Most likely one of the later two.) --- Count Parks Orlok decides to postpone Amelia’s execution a day, and Noé & Vani decide to catch the 9 fold murderer. --- Noé&Vani find the 9-fold murderer at night. They fight Jeanne and Luca. the 9-fold murderer is killed by Charlatan. --- Beginning of M.5. Noé&Vani return to Orlok’s office but are turned away at the door and sent to Hotel Chou Chou.
Day 3: M.5 ~ 11 events. Amelia is set free, Domi comes to take Noé away into Altus. --- Events of the Bal Masqué, that takes place “that night.” Vani reveals his mark of possesion, and all hell breaks loose when curse bearers begin to appear. Jeanne bites Vani for the first time and Noé bumps into Charlatan. --- Charlatan leaves; Vani&Noé cure the curse-bearers. Lord Ruthven arrives, and Noé blacks out.
Day 4: Second half of M.11, and M.12 events. Noé wakes up just before dawn of the new day and finds Vani up a bell tower. They make-up. It is presumed the events of M.12 take place on this same day. (Luca refers to the events of the Bal Masqué as “last night” in M.12) --- Noé&Vani seek an audience with Lord Ruthven, but he is out for the day. They instead go out to a café in Altus Paris with Jeanne, Domi, and Luca. They finish the night dancing on the streets.
Day 5: Beginning of M.13 events. It is presumed they happen the day after M.12 events. Vani&Noé visit Lord Ruthven. Vani offends Ruthven, and Ruthven forces them back to the human world across the border.
Roughly a week passes between this and Vani’s report to Count Orlok; a week Vani & Noé spend sleeping off their wounds. As we don’t know exactly how many days pass, everything beyond this point is an approximation.
~Day 12~: Second half of M.13~18 events. Vani&Noé report back to Count Orlok. They sneak into the catacombs of Paris late at night in search of the missing vampires and spend the entire night there. They meet Roland Fortis, find Dr. Moreau.
~Day 13~: Last few pages of M.18. Noé & Vani make it out of the catacobs the following day, possibly in the afternoon or early evening.
From this point on the exact number of days is unclear, so I’m just going to align them in reference to previous events.
~A few days after the night in the catacombs~ M.19 to first half of M.23 events. Lord Ruthven visits Noé, bites him and compels him to follow a single of his orders whenever he requests it. Jeanne and Vani meanwhile go on a date. Vani realises Noé is in danger and rushes back to the hotel. Dante comes to their hotel and tells them about the case of the Beast of Gévaudan.
~The day after~ Second half of M.23. Noé and Vani set off to Gévaudan.

VNC CONSPIRACY THEORY (part 1 - Noé’s past)
Let’s start from here: is it just me or does Noé’s past, at least up until he meets Teacher, sound oddly fabricated? I know I’m not the first to mention something along those lines, but it feels as if we’re missing a lot of details and his whole time with that old couple, although very sweet, doesn’t seem like it quite fits with the rest of the story. Although it would explain why Noé is fond of both humans and vampires and doesn’t seem to have a negative bias towards anyone, I believe it might not be the only explanation.
I’m not saying it never happened. However, what I would like to explore here is the possibility that if it did, it was not in the linear timeline the series has shown us thus far.
NOW (bear with me)
We know that Jeanne fought in that war a long time ago and was somehow “awakened” from an “induced slumber” by Ruthven and I guess my point is what if Noé was as well? Maybe not by Ruthven, but most likely by Teacher.
It is a reach, don’t get me wrong, that’s the whole fun of conspiracy theories, but hear me out.
It would explain why Noé is the only Archiviste that is still alive. In the first chapters, Nox mentionned that she thought the Archiviste clan had died a long time ago. We don’t know exactly how long ago that was, but Noé might have been captured around that time and put to sleep for god knows how long, only awakened when Teacher believed it to be convenient. (convenient for what? good question)
And for vampires who seemingly have no trouble keeping other vampires in induced comas for so long, I’m sure it would be no big deal to implant harmless, fabricated memories into someone’s mind, or to warp (read: rewrite) perception of time on an individual scale for that matter. It makes for a pretty backstory, tragic enough to be inoffensive.
Noé was also shown with a peculiar eye injury that was never really addressed. I assumed at first it was just a result of his capture, but maybe there is more to it.
There is also Vanitas’s reaction when he learned Noé was an Archiviste. His face haunts me to this day. What does he know. Maybe the VotBM told him about the Archiviste. And maybe the Archiviste had a role to play with the curse-bearers?
I feel like it would provide an explanation for how clueless Noé is about the things of the world. Granted, he comes from a town very far away from the city, but all things in perspective, his sheltering might have been intentional... Teacher’s motives are still very nebulous at this point.
