So the next episode Nate's going to be at the party. And I think I heard the wine is from Tom and Shiv's vineyard? Is Tom going to make him pour back the wine again or will he feel powerless about it this time? Whenever he feels powerless you know he's going to be going to Greg...
And... is Greg going to have another similarly major confrontational scene with Tom like he did in the wedding episode? Then their fighting can turn sexual this time. Just give me an actual conversation between them please. There will be multiple "startling confrontations" so perhaps there is hope.
The review that was released says Tom and Shiv go somewhere the characters in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf could not imagine. 👀 I have not come back from that rabbit hole just yet...
When people can't abide things as they are, when they can't abide the present, they do one of two things ... either they ... either they turn to a contemplation of the past ... or they set about to ... alter the future. And when you want to change something ... YOU BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Matsson in this episode is literally saying "Bang! Bang! Bang!" in the preview.
So anyway, I'll just be calmly analyzing everything to do with Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf until Sunday evening.

Anon: "Unless I am mistaken while some of his UK friends have visited him in the US, none of them have really spent much time there."
Guy Pelly and his wife Lizzy life in the US and have a vineyard there (Virginia),

And Tom Inskip and his wife Lara live not too far away in DC. But I suspect that even before the wedding, Meghan managed to pull Harry away from them.
I think they were both purged early on.

Sideways (2004, Alexander Payne)
25/02/2024
Sideways is a film by director Alexander Payne, starring Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church and based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Rex Pickett.
Miles (Paul Giamatti) is an English teacher, recently divorced from his wife. As the wedding of his university friend, actor Jack Lapote (Thomas Haden Church), approaches, the two decide to take a week off traveling in the Santa Ynez Valley wine area, in Santa Barbara County, California. Arriving in the vineyard region, Miles and Jack meet Stephanie (Sandra Oh), a wibemaker who introduces them to Maya, a close friend of hers.
Miles, irritated, returns to the hotel alone, only to be woken up in the middle of the night by Jack, naked, who confesses to him that he was caught red-handed by the woman's husband returning from work and that he fled to the motel by running six kilometers without clothes.
Miles, who is also introduced to her husband, congratulates her, but decides to forgo the reception and instead returns to her sad San Diego apartment, where she picks up her most prized bottle of wine, a 1961 Château Cheval Blanc, which he jealously guarded it, and drinks it in a plastic cup at a fast food restaurant.
The Santa Ynez Valley, where most of the film is set, has seen an increase in tourism. With the exception of Paul Giamatti, who had already starred in critically acclaimed films such as American Splendor, the film launched the careers of relatively unknown actors. Both Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen received Oscar nominations. Giamatti received Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for Cinderella Man (2095). Sandra Oh, after breaking off her relationship with the film's director, Alexander Payne, starred in Grey's Anatomy, also winning a Golden Globe.
In the United States it was released in cinemas on 22 October 2004. In Italy, however, it was released on 16 February 2005.

Sideways
Miles: It tastes like the back of a fucking L.A. school bus. Now they probably didn't de-stem, hoping for some semblance of concentration, crushed it up with leaves and mice, and then wound up with this rancid tar and turpentine bullshit. Fuckin' Raid.
Jack: Tastes pretty good to me.
Tumblr media
Earlier this year I watched the movie Sideways, the source of the above quote. In the film, wine aficionado Miles (Paul Giamatti) takes his friend Jack (Thomas Haden Church) to California wine country for a weekend of wine tasting and golf prior to Jack's wedding, and hijinks ensue. As can be seen from the quote above, Miles is an extremely knowledgeable consumer of wine, able to distinguish all types of nuance in each sip of wine. Jack, on the other hand, merely buckets wine into one of two categories: good or not good.
I fall into the Jack category—I can drink wine and tell you if I like it or not, but I lack the refined palate necessary to in any way tell you what it is I enjoy about a given wine. This is not for a lack of trying, in fact I went my own weekend trip to California wine country with a friend of mine in 2021 where he took me to several vineyards he was a member of and we enjoyed a number of delicious wines (the first photo below). In spite of this, all of the information given by the various sommeliers went into one ear and out the other. My other wine tour experiences, in Virginia and New Zealand (photos two and three below), were similarly enjoyable if uninformative towards my wine tastes. Truth be told, I couldn't tell you on which of the three tours I had the best wine, but I'm sure my experience on each was enhanced by the wineries assurance that their wine has global recognition and scored a 96/100 in Wine's Weekly (or something to that effect).
But Leo, you ask, how does this affect your purchasing habits when it comes to wine? To that I would respond, "Great question—I'll get there shortly, I just wanted it to be clear I am a classy guy who goes to wine tastings even if I don't have particularly elevated tastes." When purchasing wine, my process generally follows this pattern when I don't have someone with me to pick for me:
Find the white wine section (not a fan of red and I don't have a process for rosé)
Identify the price range I am looking for (definitely under $30, ideally $18–20)
Avoid brands I've heard of (I don't know anything about wine, so why would brands I know be any good?)
See if any of the Sauvignon Blancs or Chardonnays have appealing bottles (I think I like those but I am pretty sure I like others too, such as Riesling sometimes but not always but who knows what determines whether I like it a given time or not)
Pick the one with the most tempting bottle (classy label, from a country I believe probably makes good wine—sorry, Bulgaria—, maybe a cork?)
From the perspective of the Chilean wine industry, this is probably not their ideal methodology for a consumer to use. Perhaps if there were an app that allowed me to rate each wine I consumed then used machine learning to identify 1) the characteristics I enjoy and 2) which wines I should buy, that would be effective at refining my purchasing habits. But to be honest, I don't think I enjoy wine enough to put that effort in, so I will likely stick with the above strategy.

Just passing through🚶 🌸On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus *said to Him, “They have no wine.”read more. And Jesus *said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” His mother *said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each. Jesus *said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. And He *said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him. When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter *called the bridegroom, and *said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. 🌸”It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the Lord your God and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul, that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil. 🌸And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” John 2:1-11 Deuteronomy 11:13-14 Matthew 26:26-29 Bible.knowing Neverthirsty #nevergiveup #forgive #forgiveness #forgiveyourself #walk #virginia #va #night #sun #sunrise #sunset #longdrive #sky #wordofgod #medicine #wine #winelover #love #dreams #1 (at Ashton Creek Vineyard) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqRVE0AuWiY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I would like to piggy back off the previous anon's comment and please request the classic's within the fandom 🙏
Sorry, I have no clue what previous anon ask you’re referring to. We have answered this, and other asks along the same lines, several times before. The fandom classics don’t really change, so please check out our previous responses here, here, here, here, and here!
A few, more recent, popular fics (that have been mentioned on this blog before!) that may become staple fandom classics are...
The False and the Fair by Princip1914 (E)
Growing up in the shadow of West Virginia’s Eden Mountain, Aziraphale Wright always expected to work for the family coal mining company. Anthony Crowley, the son of a down-and-out miner, was going to become a pilot and leave town forever. Now, thirty years later, neither of their lives have gone as planned, and an unexpected inheritance brings them back into one another’s orbit. Aziraphale hopes that they can move beyond their shared past, and a high school arrangement that ended in disaster, but he has secrets of his own that threaten their fragile reconnection…
Finished, July 2021.
This fic will occasionally be archive locked (I put all my E rated work behind a lock at various times due to personal reasons) but please don’t let that put you off reading it!

A.Z. Fell, one of the most respected names in wine and food blogging, has been sent on assignment with his assistant Warlock Dowling to spend six months in California Wine Country. Under direction (by his boss, Gabriel) to use this experience to double his blog followers and write a novel, Aziraphale is both excited and anxious about the opportunity.

He may be in debt, yeah, but he’s paying off his loans — and despite pressure from his lenders and their team of inspectors, Crowley has found a kind of contentment tending his little corner of terroir and producing extraordinary wine. Crowley’s old vines are the heart of his vineyard, and he’s never let anyone in.
Crowley finds Aziraphale intriguing; Aziraphale finds Crowley enthralling. Turns out a famous wine expert and an experienced viticulturalist can still learn things from each other. The summer of 2019 unfolds.
What We Make of It (Shotgun Wedding) by charlottemadison (E)
The important thing, Crowley tells himself -- the most important thing -- is Adam, his brilliant, creative, empathetic nephew. Being fourteen's hard enough; the kid didn't ask to deal with the weight of the world on top of it.
And if taking care of Adam means Crowley has to tough it out at a job he can’t stand, so be it.
And if Crowley's job means that Adam’s charming English teacher is NOT a romantic possibility, well, that's just how things go.
But the occasional drink with Aziraphale proves hard to resist. They frequent the same pub, so who can object to them saying hello? Briefly sharing a table? Perhaps a little conversation? The painful knowledge that it can’t be anything more -- not without somebody getting fired or sued or both -- well, that can't be helped.
Until Crowley stumbles onto a terribly reckless idea...

I need to echo everything being said lately about loving your work! ☺️ Reading what you post is always a highlight of the day. When the muses strike, what would the boys’ ideal wedding days look like?
Ahhhh, thank you! That means so much. I’m glad you’re enjoying it so much.
Ideal wedding days, huh… (listen, I am a huge romantic and maybe have thought about this at length before... lol).
Nevada
Honestly, it would be mostly shocking that someone got him to commit to this level at all. BUT, I feel like if you did, it would be a huge party with a church wedding. Lots of family, lots of booze, and a little bit of a production as befits someone of his status in the organization. The church wedding is more for his grandmother and his mother than anything else–he’s not particularly pious and the two of you certainly haven’t been saving yourselves, HA. And the party is an excuse to show off a little bit, and for everyone to let loose. It’s a pretty huge, raucous affair with tons of alcohol and dancing that runs until the sun comes up the next day (though you and Nevada had left hours before, unable to keep your hands to yourself any longer.)
Jackson
Jackson’s been married before, so he’s not looking for a repeat of that exact experience. He’s also older, with two kids already… so it’s fairly small and simple. Despite being a professor of religion, he in no way wants a religious wedding. So it’s a civil ceremony, some old farm house in the Hudson Valley (or some historically significant chapel that he can nerd out over), close friends and family. The reception is at the same farm, just a lot of good food and wine and maybe you get him drunk enough to forget he has no rhythm and dance with you.
Paul
Paul I feel like can go one of two ways: just the two of you at City Hall, or very similar to Jackson with a small ceremony with friends and family. Maybe at a vineyard in Virginia like Barboursville (https://www.bbvwine.com/). This isn’t his first time around and he’s not young anymore and doesn’t want to make a big fuss, but he does want this to be special. So, depending on your preference, he is very happy with either just the two of you or a small, intimate evening with good food, good wine, and good company.
Rafael
Of all the boys, Rafael wants the least fuss. Just a civil ceremony, the two of you and immediate family and friends. If it’s pre-Undiscovered Country, then you just go to the courthouse and then a restaurant for a big dinner afterwards. If it’s after, he’s not keen on being down there, so a small garden or terrace somewhere in Brooklyn, followed by the same sort of dinner at a restaurant, where you can just walk home together after.
(Honestly, he would have been happy signing the paperwork and going out for dinner, just the two of you. But Lucia would have had his head, and actually, in the end, he’s the one that is making poetic, romantic declarations with his vows and tearing up first, setting you off…If you bring it up, he’ll flush and deny it, but, at the end of the day, he really is a soft romantic under that hard shell. Probably more than the other boys.)
