i know i have talked about this many times in detail by now, but the whole "shiekah tech just vanished" totk interview reveal will grind my gears anytime i think about the franchise for i dont know how much time to come
its such a lie to your face i just cant help but feel insulted, bc no, its NOT all gone and vanished, you kept the few parts convenient to keep and got rid of all that could have even vaguely distracted from the new shiny sonau stuff, at least be honest and just say you didnt think about it needing any sort of reason, say you dont care, say there were writing or staffing troubles, say you had other priorities, say you didnt think people cared about continuity (lol) even between two games taking place in the same world no 10 years apart, say you just wanted to generate money but even more, idk, id much rather have them be honest about it than lie like that bc this way it makes it feel like they think im stupid, like id just gobble up and be happy with anything they say to get me to shut up and keep spending money
(╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#totk#ganondoodles rants#not really a rant tbh#but man#i just keep coming back to this point#bc its just ... so insulting#and you cant argue either that he meant the old shiekah stuff vanished while newly built stuff was still there#bc the old og guardian on the hateno institute is still there#the teleport pad as well#both of which WERE old#but then the telescope is gone and the furnace and the upgrade stone thingy- isnt even the easter egg prototype titan model gone too??#and the big furnace and the lanterns are all gone#and it all had to stay for a while after botws end bc we still see it and purah also had enough time to manage to get herself aged up again#and the whole it vanshied bc it knew the calamtiy was gone interview part makes it even worse#bc the SOURCE OF IT IS STILL THERE#AND WHY DIDNT IT VANISH A HUNDRED YEARS AGO THEN#THEY WON THAT TIME TOO#and that everyone that was in any way interested in shiekah tech just doesnt care anymore#again i dont think even the words shiekah tech are said a single time#aside from MAYBE the school thing about the calamity#which is another can of worms tbh#and no vah ruta stopping to work isnt the same as vanishing#i always figured it was bc the spirits of the pilots were now all fully gone and without a pilot as its power source yeah it might stop#bc that makes SENSE#i want to know so badly why this all turned out like this#they have talked about struggles during development before so why not here#is there somethign they try to cover up or did they ACTUALLY think this was good#bc i cant believe that

i still think the funniest possible answer to “where did all the divine beasts go in tears of the kingdom” would have been “purah and robbie were in the middle of dismantling guardians and ancient sheikah tech for parts and they were like “oh, the champions’ ghosts are still here? well divine beasts are really big, we can repurpose some bits and pieces to give you new bodies if you want” and then we get unstoppable sheikah-tech cyborg ghost champions just, hanging out with their descendants and shit

I have long believed that there has never been a career, in any fictional universe, as inherently thankless, fruitless, and utterly hopeless as that of the Hylian Archeologist.
This only reinforces that to me. I unironically love this explanation. I love that it comes alongside Zelda being a Hylian archeologist alongside multiple supporting characters.
“Sometimes the things you study abruptly disappear. It just happens. You try intensely to understand what they are before that happens, because no matter how much you understand any given subject there will always be far, far more mysteries than you can even comprehend. This probably wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last. How many ancient civilizations came before this that likewise disappeared without a trace, long before you or anyone you know was ever born? You don’t know. You will never know. Those records probably disappeared too.”

'dark burst into the art room, stepped on a tube of paint that had been spilled onto the floor, slipped and fell... even though it looks like dark, it's actually daisuke on the inside. '

I promise one day I’ll stop bringing up this screenshot but today is not that day because uhm.
Thinking about @madwheelerz’s manifestation theory and like. When this happens:
Tumblr media
…they’re describing the Upside Down in terms of the Veil of Shadows. Which. Okay, cool.
Except generally, when they use D&D as a metaphor, they use actual things from D&D irl. The Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer, Vecna… all are real, actual things in irl D&D, even if they’re not exactly 1:1 like the things they (nominally) describe/foreshadow.
…but not the Veil of Shadows. The Veil of Shadows is not a thing. They made it up for the show. And they didn’t have to. Because in real D&D, Shadowfell exists. Described as “the toxic plane of darkness and power. It is the hidden place that hates the light. It is the frontier of worlds unknown”. It’s literally alternately called the Plane of Shadows.
But the Veil of Shadows? Sounds a hell of a lot like Shadowfell in description, but Shadowfell is never referenced as the Veil of Shadows.
And… Shadowfell is from 4e. The kids, especially in s1, are playing 1e. They should not know what Shadowfell is at all.
Idk I just find it interesting that so many of the D&D references are real, and to things they could at least know the name of because they really did show up by name in 1e. Except for the one describing the UD as a whole? Thus comparing the UD to something entirely made up?
Just… interesting.

im still thinking about the way ppl talk bout flip phones and "brick" phones and if you know how to use one you're automatically old like that cannot be true the reason why I know how to text on a old phone is because 1. they were still the most popular types of phones ppl used until like 2008 2. I wasn't allowed to take my smartphone to school until 2015 😭

hi what is the basic premise of the ttrpg 🎤
hi margot!!!! what an excellent question. boring pitch stuff below followed by fun pitch stuff below:
Radio Silence is a 3-5 person mystery adventure intended for any OSR system. Set on an alternate Earth, all PCs and NPCs are human and cannot use magic. Radio Silence is low-combat, instead prioritizing investigation, roleplay, and puzzle solving.
Nestled within the United States Radio Quiet Zone lies the peaceful community of Sugar Grove, West Virgina. The large telescope which looms over the town makes Sugar Grove an area of interest to academically minded astrophysicists, citizens struggling from electromagnetic hypersensitivity, conspiracy theorists, and national security officials. Though the technology of Sugar Grove remains stuck in the past, time continues to move forwards, bringing with it unusual changes. Townsfolk begin to suffer from a mysterious illness, vanishing before any research can be done on them. Meanwhile, miles away, four unsuspecting people all recieve the same message through fax, telephone, and radio interception: "FOR THE GRAIL ... 26815 - 38.5110° N, 79.3220° W."

If the Galvan had triumphed and wiped out the Petrosapiens, how would the frogs have affected, and been affected by, the galaxy (assuming they lasted until the modern day)?
I think they would've become increasingly isolationist and developed the strongest possible weapons and defenses they could to keep themselves safe from incursion. At best, this approach would lead to a species detached from galactic civilization and cold (if not hostile) towards most outsiders - a dangerous prospect, considering the Milky Way's dependency on the Galvan FTL network. At worst, I could see their tech being so prized that the various empires would set aside their differences and wage war on them to procure it.

We need to lay more blame for "Kids don't know how computers work" at the feet of the people responsible: Google.
Google set out about a decade ago to push their (relatively unpopular) chromebooks by supplying them below-cost to schools for students, explicitly marketing them as being easy to restrict to certain activities, and in the offing, kids have now grown up in walled gardens, on glorified tablets that are designed to monetize and restrict every movement to maximize profit for one of the biggest companies in the world.
Tech literacy didn't mysteriously vanish, it was fucking murdered for profit.

OOC::
We chuggin' along! This is an important moment for hopefully obvious reasons.
Funnily enough, I haven't actually made the Welcome Wagon as a build yet. I didn't actually think about what it looks like until like...last week, but now I have a decent idea of it!
And whatta ya know, later today my usual sever is shifting over to be an event for the weekend. My neurosis and events don't generally mix (I haven't actually played in any of them despite being on this server since summer 2022, though one was only because I got sick lmao) so like...it'd be a good time to do that....

Real Reasons Dragons Hoard Gold
Tax evasion scheme
There are no other options
The king's entire army is unable to stop this dragon from taking all the gold
And then the taxman comes along
"Oh no, I would tell you my assets, but they're all in the lair of a dragon. Guess you'll have to mark me as having no money and deserving of a significant tax cut!"
Then the taxman leaves, and what happens?
The King finds a bunch of adventurers and tells them to fight the dragon
And suddenly the dragon- who need i remind is superintelligent, an archmage, strong enough to tear a giant in half and took down an entire nation's military not last month?
"Oh no! I cannot defeat five traumatized weirdos! I am slain! I guess you'd better take all this gold back to the king"
And all is well until next tax season when Oh No! The dragon has "somehow" revived and has taken all the gold again!
Someone needs to expose this, guys. This is why we still have medieval tech after 3000 years- all the funding's vanishing into unlisted dragon accounts.
