Hey Sevens Dub, would be cool if people outside the USA and Australia could watch you too.

Reporting back from the sevens dub it was fun :) very excited for the new eps tomorrow so we can really see the script stretch it’s wings more
The cast is the same as the switch game which is both expected and appreciated! I still argue this is one of the strongest dub casts we’ve had in modern Yugioh from the get-go. So many fresh faces I’ve never heard before. I love casting that feels confident enough in their team that they can trust a cast of mostly newbies to dubbing to a bunch of main character roles
The intro being instrumental still sucks but it feels like it has way more life in it than the vrains one at least so It’s not insulting
Also thank fuck they finally released a dub in a normal way. Vrains US dub release was a nightmare like until that point I had no fucking idea what a Pluto TV was and I doubt anyone else did either. Hulu and Disney XD at a prime time like 2pm was definitely a pricy but smart choice for airing the show and I hope it pays off bc I really wanna see sevens do good here!!!!

Between AQ Stream lagging and buffering to high hell lately and that fucking cesspool of an episode pissing me off to no end, I was clearly not in the mood to watch yesterday's newest GR!! episode. And yet, it somehow still managed to annoy me.
I had learned through @real-life-pine-tree and tweets from the YGO anime account that Epoch ended up cheating, and quite frankly, even newcomers to a game should know that cheating is wrong. But here is the real kicker: members of the Yugipedia server were talking about the episode and they revealed that everyone except Yuhi was blind to it. Yes, that includes Yuamu and Yudias.
Tumblr media
First off, Yuamu has the most amount of braincells in the entire roster of GR!! characters, so she should've been able to notice Epoch cheating without any problem like her brother. Why the fuck didn't the writers let her do that? Second of all, and more importantly, Yudias, you are Epoch's teacher. If your best friend says he saw her blatantly cheating, then fulfill your role as such and educate her on why it is wrong! It's not that difficult, especially for someone as honorable as you who would not let any form of cheating slide! Yet, you clearly did and had the fucking nerve to accuse Yuhi of making false accusations because the show and crew would rather prioritize how close you've gotten with Epoch. Ugh, it didn't take me until ep. 66 to like their bond, but now, this and the ending of the previous episode have made me quickly dislike it.
What the fuck is wrong with GO RUSH!! lately? They've been getting worse in quality since their fifth arc, from cramming in too many plotlines and stuff only for jack shit to get actually accomplished and focusing too much on the SEVENS fanservice to ruining their characters in different ways. Heck, unlike previous YGO shows—sans VRAINS—where they make tournaments integral to the plot/conflict, it feels like the Galaxy Cup is not the main focus of the current arc. In fact, the Epoch and Relic plotlines may be overshadowing it, reiterating how the show is suffering from too many overlapping plotlines and constantly catering to the SEVENS timeskip. I had mentioned that going through the subs of ep. 67 left me feeling like I want to finish watching this just to get it out of the way, but I'm not sure if I should do that or find an appropriate time to stop watching it altogether. I'll probably think about it some more, but for right now, I'm currently ranted out.

Looks at Aki. I have no idea how they do it. They can keep the KING JACK ATLAS at KING level but they still cant keep a competent female through arc-V. They either die, are humor only, or fade into obscurity sadly
Tumblr media
Yugioh doesn't, and never has known how to write badass female characters. They either start out strong, or can be good, but all end up just being either non existent, or as you said, fade into obscurity.
Like lets go series by series.
OG Yugioh: Mai? Mai? The girl who basically lost most of her duels, was pretty much used as canon fodder. As in just to showcase Ra, and give reason for Joey's epic duel vs Marik. To then join up with the whole Dartz thing, only to then STILL feel like a poor duelist. Sure, she and Joey had an epic duel, but then after that....Meh. Then after that season she was g o n e.
GX: Alexis could've been a great character. She had links to the shadows through her missing brother, she was best friends with the school's top duelist. But after her good start, she gets captured lol. Sure, she does get her payback, but I swear, after that it's mostly downhill for her development. While everyone around her goes down a major path of development and character.
Another point going to Blair, cause what could've been for her. When you consider her Tag Force 3 deck. Imagine if she had Lightsworns in the show. She'd be a unit, but nah, she just became a cheerleader sadly, and a damsel during the Yubel later stages.
5DS: Honestly, the Blackwings are at fault here LOL. Akiza had such a grand opening, and then the second half/rest dropped the ball SUPER hard. Hell, you could argue all the females here had great starts, only for it to go downhill, or just nothing. Carly, Misty, Luna even((Mina doesn't count as she's just more a proper side character)). Of course later we had Sherry, whom we should've had a epic Sherry vs Aki duel one on one. But what did we get? Shery vs Aki AND Crow. Like least Jack having Leo and Luna made sense, as it was to set up Life Stream's birth from Power Tool, but jfc.
Zexal: Rio huh. Honestly like I said, she has a good opener, but then later just becomes basically worth nothing. Even when the big reveal happens. She's not threatening, or important. We also have Anna who had fucking trains, yet was barely used.
Arc-V: OK. Now here is where I first talked about it. Cause honestly, THESE FOUR GALS DESERVE BETTER. Yuzu has a good growth period, but after basically Serena takes her spot, Yuzu basically becomes NOTHING. While Serena kicks ass like a true badass, and becomes a great character. Her duel with Yugo is honestly one of my favorites. It helped her realize that maybe dueling can be fun. But what do we get after that? Oh, she's taken away in the most bullshit plot armor way, and mind controlled lmao. Rin and Ruri? We get told they're great through flashbacks, do we get to see it? Nop, they're controlled. Then the end, only Yuzu gets to be free basically. What a mess.
Vrains: How many times do you want to fuck Blue Angel/Aoi did you say? Like, what important duel did she win? Every important duel, she loses. She came off as a really good character, and everything good and cool they threw at her, they then decide to make her LOSE. I'm not saying she has to win to become relevant and good, but it just felt like she became a punching bag, and only Playmaker and later Soulburner COULD save the day.
Sevens: Sevens is more of kid Yugioh honestly, so I can't really expect too much from it, as comparing it to other series, yeah. Sevens isn't bad, just...Alright. Though I will say, it had some pretty good female characters. But like the dudes in this show, pretty average gdigsdidg. Will say though, Romin surprisingly had a positive dueling record. With 11 duels. One not shown, three loses, and SEVEN WINS. There are some notable characters too, like Luke's sister, and the construction crew girl. But in terms of what my post is mainly following, can't put that there.
Go Rush: Same can be said here tbh. Might be some 'nice' characters, but none fitting the mold.
I'm not making all this to say, 'oh the female characters are complete shit' when they're not. I love em for a reason, I just get so sad when their writing goes to sour shit, as if they get the rug pulled from under them, while the dudes continue forward, and get the lime light.
It's why if Yugioh ever goes serious again, I'd love a female lead. A female lead that would kick ass, and not go down a more forgetful or poor writing path like these have before.

So, I don't really know how to Social Media... I never interacted much with people on platforms like this but I'm gonna try my best here...
This will be a little post about me since I plan to start streaming a bit again next week, more about that later.
So yeah, I'm KingBooHoo, my name is Johannes, I'm 24 (25 in two months holy shit time flies fast) and I'm from germany. Also I'm a trained IT-Administrator, so if you have any technical questions don't ask me I already have enough to fight with those at work (I'm kidding ask me anything if you like xD)
As for my hobbies I love playing video games and indulging myself into certain fandoms like some of you know. Most of these being Pokemon and Yugioh. I also play a lot of other games which would be too many to just list here...
I also love writing fanfiction sometimes. I wrote stuff in the past for Yugioh VRAINS and for Ace Attorney. Feel free to check out if you haven't already on my Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/KingBooHoo My next story for VRAINS is in the making. I hope I get out the first chapter next week!
Last but not least. I love music. I've been playing piano since I was in grade school and it always calms my nerves playing after a rough day. Music is a gift that I love above everything else. If you'd ask me what one thing I would take with me on a lonely Island it would be a piano xD Oh! I also love to sing! It's a super fun activity to do, especially in a group of people.
So yeah that's me... feel free to ask me anything. I'm also pretty good at listening if anybody has some pressing matters that we all sometimes have in life... I'd love to help (If my limited time allows me to xD).
Anyways my other social medias are:
Twitter (no I do not post but I retweet cute cats): https://twitter.com/KingBooHoo
Youtube(mostly just a dumpster of funny moments with my friends): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_DY1g6tnDezwV-muuX5GLw
Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/kingboohooo
Yes I plan on starting to stream a bit and it's probably Pokemon. I just love hard nuzlockes if anybody's interested ^^

Today's V-Jump reveals feature the Synchro retrain of Z-ARC (regular corrupt form), and Main Deck Code monster for Decode Talker Heatsoul, which was released back in Legendary Gold Box.
I was expecting something potentially Lightwurm related, so I guess this counts. Synchro Z-ARC has no special properties, it just requires a Tuner, and DARK Pendulum, so you can just Summon it with Lightwurm, and Supreme King Dragon Odd-Eyes.
Yes, expect purified form of this as well, as well as Xyz/Standard versions of Z-ARC. Though I don't know how a Tribute Summon, or a Main Deck Special Summon Z-ARC would work, they might default into a Ritual Z-ARC (which will likely happen anyway for Original Dimension, most likely). Of course, expect a Rank 13 version of the purified form of Xyz Z-ARC, and a LINK-6 version of Arc-Ray Dragon (but not regular Z-ARC, for obvious reasons), as well. Hey remember when Yuya was the protagonist of ARC-V? Good times.
Since Synchro Z-ARC features Clear Wing, I guess the next ARC-V main set in January 2025 will be Yugo focused, though that is subject to change, depending on December 2024 set.
For the VRAINS one, this likely means we are getting LINK-6 Borrel for the next VRAINS set, since Borrelend Dragon was from Legendary Gold Box. Also, I guess the next Main Deck Code monster for Yusaku will be for Protectcode Talker.
The new reveals also feature bunch of reprints, most interestingly one of Fairy Tails (Fairy Tail - Snow), Yusaku's Accesscode Talker, and Splash Mage, and Revolution Falcon - Airraid for the Phantom Nightmare Raidraptor support. It also features all the remaining Token reprints for the Token Pack, which includes Shun, though GX group only has Judai, Edo, and Asuka.
Since Token Pack is also here, tomorrow should be Legacy of Destruction (unless there is no reveal on Friday, or other merch from Duelist Box is revealed), there will be much more to discuss there, though this batch already gave more stuff to discuss.
Next month's Duelist Box reveal will likely feature ZEXAL, and the DM card should be revealed in the Jump Festa stream, like Armed Neos from Secret Utility Box.

reading your vrains posts made me curious (i dont know if its investment or passion despite not liking it), but what is the yugioh season you like?
That's a fair question! I think Sevens takes the cake. I've cooled on it a bit because of Go Rush's latest questionable writing, but if we ignore that, really I came out of it more satisfied than any other series. We had good comedy, well-written female characters, duels that didn't drag on forever but still showed off plenty of cool and quirky monsters, a regular stream of arc bosses, and iirc there was only one tournament in the whole show. I love it when duel results aren't foregone conclusions (or if they are, when they at least have the decency to explore the characters). And you NEVER knew where Sevens' next plot arc was gonna take you, but after each 13 episodes, everything pieced together in mind-blowing ways.
Before that, my favorite was Arc-V. Even if the plot progression in a show is wack, I'll usually be placated if the drama is juicy enough or if there's fun character interactions. While Arc-V did have some long arcs, it kept setting exciting goals to reach next. I was always on the hook waiting for the next dimensional counterpart to show up! So my priorities with YGO are being entertained by colors/characters while I'm watching and also having fun theorizing what might happen next.
(also, I did formally study UX, hence why I'm poking holes in things. but even before that I still had issues with Vrains' exploration of tech. The writers really needed more time to do research and conceptualize the world.)

White Salvation - Chapter 1
(Note: this is an AU of Bacon Saver)
(links in the notes)
Rating: General Audiences Words: 980 Category: Gen Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS  Relationship: Ai | Ignis & Fujiki Yuusaku Characters: Fujiki Yuusaku, Lightning (Yu-Gi-Oh) Additional Tags: Grief/Mourning, Alternate Universe - Post-Canon, reviving the dead and other extreme sports, Other Additional Tags to Be Added, there might be duels in this one but i won't be fully writing them out
Winning the duel against Ai didn’t matter when Yusaku was the one who lost everything in the end. So, no, Yusaku couldn’t go back. He couldn’t go back to the Kolters, he couldn’t show his face to Takeru, he couldn’t see the Zaizens. They all got what they needed from him, and his part in their lives was over. There was only one person who needed him now.
Ai gave up his life for Yusaku. Ai lost his life so Yusaku could keep his. Because Yusaku would give his life for Ai, and Ai knew that. And Ai couldn’t live in a world without Yusaku.
The problem was, Yusaku couldn’t live in a world without Ai, either.
Every duel comes to an end.
And with every duel comes a victor and a loser.
It’d been ten years since Yusaku ever lost a duel, and this one didn’t break that record. He wished it did.
Kneeling on the ground, arms empty, alone. Tears streaming down his cheeks. He wanted to scream. He wanted another chance.
How was Yusaku supposed to go back to everyone like this? Empty-handed, alone? Yusaku came to this duel to save everyone, to save Ai, and he failed. He couldn’t save the one person who mattered most. Winning the duel didn’t matter when Yusaku was the one who lost everything in the end.
So, no, Yusaku couldn’t go back. He couldn’t go back to the Kolters, he couldn’t show his face to Takeru, he couldn’t see the Zaizens. They all got what they needed from him, and his part in their lives was over. There was only one person who needed him now.
Ai.
Bringing himself back to life, Yusaku logged out. If anyone came looking for him, he couldn’t be here. Not until he found what he was looking for.
When it came to virtual worlds, there were multiple dedicated to dueling.
The world Yusaku was more familiar with was Link Vrains. This was the world he frequented as Playmaker. The world he saved multiple times, from the Knights of Hanoi and from Lightning. The world where he was known as a hero. And yet, it was all anonymous. The number of people who knew his true identity could be counted with his fingers. No one else knew who he was, or anything about him.
That was always how it was meant to be. Yusaku never dueled to make friends. He only dueled to serve his own purposes.
The name Playmaker was known throughout the world of Vrains. Everyone thought he was a hero. And that meant Yusaku would have to shed this persona. He had to return to square one. Working on his own, with an unknown name.
If he logged in as Playmaker, everyone would see him. He couldn’t let himself be found. Not until he found what he was looking for.
Making a new account on Vrains, unlinked to Playmaker, was easy enough. He couldn’t let the avatar look too much like himself, or too much like Playmaker. He made the hairstyle different, made the hair a different color as well (mostly pink, with some purple streaks). Made his skin paler in color than Playmaker’s was. He gave the avatar one green eye, one yellow eye. The outfit was plain, a dark hoodie with dark sweatpants.
The last thing his avatar needed was a name. That was simple, too.
Linking with... 06…
06 landed on top of a building in Vrains with practiced ease.
Vrains... this used to be a battlefield. A place to fight for answers, to get revenge. A place to fight for peace, for coexistence.
Now, 06 hoped, it was a place to heal, to find someone important.
After locking Cyberse World away from the Knights of Hanoi, Ai had been on the run in the main part of Vrains, running to keep himself, the other Ignis, and his homeworld alive. That's when a way out was provided, a trap Ai was all too happy to let ensnare him. Then Ai was treated as a hostage, bouncing between the real world and Vrains. But the fact remained: Cyberse World was hidden deep in Link Vrains. That was where Ai and the other Ignis had lived.
The only problem was, 06 wasn't sure where to find the Cyberse World. But he did know how to find the Ignis' last base of operations: Mirror Link Vrains.
And that's where he expected to find answers.
He'd already hacked himself a hoverboard before logging in. Now, the hoverboard appeared in the air in front of him. 06 jumped on the hoverboard and made his ascent, away from the main hub of Vrains. He couldn't risk being spotted. Thankfully, he programmed this hoverboard to be fast. It didn't take all that long to make it back to the entrance of Mirror Link Vrains.
What he was expecting to find here, he wasn't sure. A clue to Cyberse World? A clue to bring back Ai? Nothing?
Mirror Link Vrains was big, but if 06 was expecting to find anything, it was bound to be at the castle. That was going to be his first stop. If he didn't find anything there, he'd keep looking around, but it was more efficient to head there immediately.
"Yusaku Fujiki, right on schedule."
06 stopped dead in his tracks. He knew that voice. He whirled around to face the speaker.
And there Lightning stood.
"There's no need to look so shocked," Lightning huffed, crossing his arms. "You know I am gone from this world. You know I left a message for Ai. I just happened to leave a message for you as well."
A message? From Lightning? That wasn't what 06 came here for. There was nothing Lightning could tell him that he wanted to hear.
"I knew you would come here," Lightning went on. "I knew what the simulations led to, and I knew Ai would get my message. And, of course, he would refuse to let you sacrifice your own life for his. He couldn't live without you. But you can't live without him, either, can you?"
06 turned on his heels and started walking. He didn't need to hear this.
"What if I told you there's a way for Ai to come back?"
He stopped.

We Rolled More Kindly This Time in the Game of Life (Part Two)
Written for Multiamory March 2023
Day 15: Adoption
Title: We Rolled More Kindly This Time in the Game of Life (Part 2)
Ship: Lieutenantshipping | Aso/Kyoko/Genome
Focus: Spectre & Aso & Genome & Kyoko
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains
Rating: G
Word Count: 2,640
Tags: Fluff, Found Family, Outside POV, Queerplatonic Relationships
There had been previous attempts to adopt Spectre out, of course.
The whole idea was to rehome less fortunate children into better situations however… At first he was just unlucky.
Oh no, we want a girl not a boy. We do want a boy but we’d prefer a boy who looked more like us. It’s sort of, um, unlucky, don’t you think? To have a baby that doesn’t cry… Its sort of creepy, we’d much prefer to have a lively baby, even if we do lose sleep over it, cuing to laughter.
Other times it was just unlucky. The paperwork got lost in the mail. Some one off event all but forgotten to the couple from their youth disqualified them. A combination of both in which the paperwork was incorrectly filled out.
And then after all these mishaps, Spectre got old enough to understand what adoption was. It was moving. It was being forced into a nuclear family he did not ask for. It meant he could never see his real Mother ever again.
So Spectre began to sabotage himself. He learned real quick a lot of people were very prissy about worms even though they were very important to the ecosystem. He would be rude and unlikeable on purpose. Even going so far as breaking toys to make himself unwanted.
As much as he hated the Orphanage and the Orphanage appeared to hate him, Spectre was determined to stay. Because staying meant that he could be close to his real Mother, his Mother Tree. She was the best, she actually loved him.
Her face may have been a wooden knot far into the middle of her trunk but it was kind and gentle. Her hair was foliage, her arms were tree branches, and her legs were roots. Despite all this, when wind whistled through her leaves, it made for Spectre’s most favourite lullaby. She was strong and stalwart when he hugged her and he felt hugged back by her in the quiver of her twigs. He could nap in the boughs of her as though against her breast or under her roots like a lap.
Spectre was going to stay at the Orphanage until he was a grown up and then, when he was grown up, he could do whatever he wanted. And what he wanted was to stay with his Mother. He just had some growing to do. Ten-ish years, Spectre believed, and then at sixteen or so he could get emancipated.
(And yes, being precocious and perceptive, he knew and used that word exactly as intended.)
That was Spectre’s plan. That was all Spectre wanted.
But then something occurred and he couldn’t quite explain it.
His Mother… She had been cut down.
Being all of six years old, Spectre could not fathom why such a thing was done. She was not fire wood. She was not something to be turned into pencils. And yet. She had been struck down clean in half, the top of her taken and what remained of her was a stump taller than him.
Spectre buckled at the knee as he sobbed. He hated them. He hated humans. They abandoned him. They were cruel to him. And now they had done this to him.
He wasn’t sure what he was going to do next but he was sure as sure as anything not going back to the Orphanage. There was no point. He had nothing to keep him there anymore. Nothing to live for it. It didn’t matter.
   So Spectre ran.
He didn’t know where to. He had no other place to go but he ran. He couldn’t bear to see his Mother in this state and so he ran as far as his little body could carry him. All whilst tears streamed down his face. He didn’t look where he was going, he got up when he tripped. Mud and grass stains didn’t bother him.
   But hunger eventually did.
He accepted he wasn’t going to get dinner tonight. It had been so long since school snacks and lunch beforehand. Spectre found himself on the side of the road. He plopped himself under a tree and held his hungry belly. He watched as people passed him by, not even looking at him.
But he did want someone to look at him. He didn’t know who though. Not the Orphanage Matrons but someone else. A friend? He didn’t have any friends.
Spectre stayed there for an hour longer. Just on the corner of some street, under some tree. He didn’t budge, not even as it began to spit rain and the clouds looked ready to storm after this gloomy precursor. As time continued to pass, no one came for him. Not yet at least. He had a nagging worry at the back of his mind that the matrons would eventually come for him.
Yet someone else came for him first.
“Hey, are you okay? You look sad…”
Spectre looked up and he saw a boy who was only a little bit taller and older than him. He had fluffy white hair and the most beautiful eyes that Spectre had ever seen on a boy - or anyone, really. His heart skipped a beat as he was offered a helping hand.
And one thing turned into another. He wasn’t okay. He was sad. And this boy did his best - above and beyond his best, even - to be sympathetic to Spectre and comfort him. So, they introduced themselves to each other and suddenly, Spectre had a friend.
As well as an invitation to this boy’s sleepover party.
His name was Kogami Ryoken and he wanted to be Spectre’s friend and, more excitingly, Spectre wanted to be his.
They talked the whole way home. Well, to Ryoken’s home and it was not at all what Spectre had been expecting. He had been expecting a house with maybe a small garden or backyard at best. Most people in the city lived in apartments and flats, Spectre had observed. Ryoken and his family were not like most people, nor were they like some people. They were like the smallest, most royal people as he lived in a mansion the size of a castle with sweeping lawns and pretty gardens.
Spectre felt as though he had tumbled into a dream. Or a fairy tale. But then he was in for a rude shock. He was not Ryoken’s only friend, nor the only invite to the sleepover.
There was another and his name was Fujiki Yusaku. He wanted to be Spectre’s friend, too, since they already had Ryoken in common. Spectre, however, did not want to be Yusaku’s friend.
There wasn’t an overly specific reason that Spectre didn’t want to be friends with Yusaku. He just made his first and he wanted it to be special and somehow knowing he was second made it a whole lot less special for him. So he did his best to be rude and unlikeable, that was always something he was good at.
Yet it didn’t work on Yusaku. He was too… something Spectre didn’t like nor knew how to word. He wasn’t the centre of attention or anything but something else. Regardless, whatever he was, by morning, Spectre had to admit. They were friends. All three of them. Him, Ryoken, and Yusaku.
However, also by morning, Spectre was told he had to leave. Had to go home. And Spectre didn’t want to go home. As far as he was concerned, the Orphanage was not his home and the closest place to what felt like home for him was ruined. Had been cut down.
Spectre did his best to explain his situation to Ryoken’s Father - Dr. Kogami - but also the other adults who were hanging around this place as well. He spoke at length about his experiences with the Orphanage and how he didn’t want to go back. They listened about as well as adults could to a kindergartener in a unique predicament but at least they listened.
And when they did, Spectre watched. He got their names and their appearances, even their habits. Aso. Kyoko. And um… Dr Genome? They seemed to have jobs here, Spectre thought. Scientists or something but they also seemed like friends as family relatives to Ryoken, something he’d only really seen in books and cartoons.
They were a weird bunch. Two men and a woman. The woman was very young, younger than the matrons at the Orphanage whereas the men seemed about the same age or if not older than the adults that Spectre was used to seeing (and being under the oppressive thumb of).
They liked to laugh and joke and even though Dr. Kogami seemed determined to be distant to Spectre, as well as Yusaku, he’d noticed, these other adults weren’t like that. They didn’t necessarily want to be close to him but they wanted to keep an eye on him.
Kyoko and Aso seemed nice, Spectre thought. Dr Genome was weird but it made him laugh. They were an odd bunch but they liked him and odder still, Spectre came to like them.
All the time they had together was breakfast and morning tea. But that was just enough time, it seemed.
Yusaku’s Mother had picked him up earlier and the matrons said they couldn’t collect him until eleven-thirty because they had so much to do. Many other children in their care and whatnot.
But by the end of it, before the matrons arrived, they were still sitting at the dining room table. Ryoken had gone to have a shower, his Father was busy. So it was just them four. At a table. It reminded Spectre of something whilst they chatted.
“Do you have a favourite book, boy?” Aso asked him.
They never used his self-imposed nickname but that was fine. “Yes, its called Blue Angel.” Spectre replied.
“And what about a favourite subject at school?” Kyoko asked.
“Um… reading and writing.” Spectre said. “But I like science and geography, too.”
“A little academic to be.” Dr. Genome laughed approvingly.
“And how would you feel about being adopted? By us?” Kyoko asked.
Spectre felt his heart strike a chord. He watched as Aso put his hand over Kyoko’s. Suddenly he knew, before, what he had been reminded of. Adoption compatibility interviews. The ones he normally brought worms and headless Barbie dolls to.
“I don’t… we don’t know how much you know about when adults grow up and get married but we aren’t. We’re in civil partnerships - do you know what that is?” Aso began to explain.
   Spectre shook his head.
“It means we’re all committed to one another but not formally, like with marriage because we all love and are committed to one another. Kyoko and I, well, we could get married if we wanted to because we’re in romantic love with one another however, Genome is our very good friend but he doesn’t love us romantically. He loves us queerplatonically, instead and is still an important part of our relationship.” Aso said.
There were… a lot of big words but a lot of the time, adults like to dumb things down for Spectre. He knew he was smart but very rarely did, especially people who wanted to be prospective parents to him, trusted that. He licked his lips. He didn’t get it.
And he said as much, amusing Dr. Genome especially.
“What that means is,” he said, folding his arms, looking beady from behind his glasses, “is that we decide who we love and what we mean to each other. I could be your uncle. Or your dad. Or even your… I dunno, duncle. Same for Aso. Kyoko… feminine versions so your mum, or your aunt, your sister if you really wanted. Er, um, or your mumunt.” He was having a lot of fun coming up with smush terms but they weren’t really getting the reaction that he was after.
Namely laughter. Instead Spectre stared stoically. Seriously. With something of a little pout on his face.
He got the gist of all the jargon after that and couldn’t help but compare it to some of the bossier prospective parents he had encountered in his time. They had to be this, he had to be that. He didn’t want a Mother or a mum. He already had one. Even if she was now gone.
“It's up to you, of course,” Kyoko quickly added, “if you don’t want to be adopted, we’ll understand. We’ve only just met each other but if you want to stay, we have two apartments we share between ourselves and a spare bedroom in both, is all. We could transfer you to Ryoken and Yusaku’s school and… well, we’re new to being parents or foster guardians or whatever you want to call us so we can figure it out from there.”
   Spectre still stared.
“The little man needs something more to sweeten the pot, eh?” Dr. Genome mused. “Tell us, what’s your favourite food? ‘Cause Aso here is a really good cook.”
   “Tamagoyaki.” Spectre replied without thinking.
Aso laughed, “Why didn’t you say so earlier. I’ll make us up some and you can decide when your current carers arrive.”
He got up from the table, smile on his face, and when he walked past where Spectre was sitting, in a chair too big for him, Spectre stopped him. He grabbed Aso’s sleeve and Aso looked down towards him. Spectre looked up to meet his minutely befuddled stare.
“I… I wanna stay.” Spectre said in a tiny, meek voice. His hand trembled as he held onto Aso’s sleeve. “I want you guys to adopt me.”
It felt like an all too soon, all too rash decision but this place. Sure. Spectre was dazzled by everything it was as it was so different to the rudimentary, perpetually school-like building of the orphanage but it was more than that. It felt like home. It was a place he wanted to stay. Not run away from. He could only hope that Aso, Kyoko, and Dr. Genome’s apartments were the same way but with them in it, Spectre liked his chances.
   “Good fella.” Dr. Genome said.
“We’re happy to have you as well.” Kyoko said, smiling.
“C’mon, let’s make tamagoyaki together.” Aso said.
Spectre nodded and Aso picked him up, placed him up high over his shoulders and Spectre felt like he was on a mountaintop. His head was almost touching the ceiling, even. Which was impressive because the Kogami mansion had some very tall ceilings. Kyoko and Dr. Genome tagged along too, to the kitchen to make more snacks.
“But one more thing,” Spectre asked for, frowning, “my name is Spectre! Not boy or good fella or little man: its Spectre! Su-pe-ku-ta!”
Dr. Genome laughed heartily, “See? He’s already taking after me, his duncle.”
“Stop it you.” Kyoko teased, lightly slapping Dr. Genome’s shoulder.
But Spectre laughed, too. Just a little bit. He couldn’t believe it. He had never ever in a million trillion years ever wanted to get adopted. Quite frankly even the matrons at the Orphanage were giving up on his chances to, as well, given his past behaviour and best efforts to villainise himself and so.
Were all very happy, very confounded, and very relieved that when they arrived to pick him up, they discovered they didn’t need to. Once the dreadful paperwork was done and this time, Spectre had his fingers crossed that it didn’t get lost in the mail. Nor incorrectly filled out. And that the background checks would come back squeaky clean.
All because he had found his… well… family. They weren’t a nuclear family. They were more amorphous than that. Sometimes two uncles, an aunt, and a nephew. Sometimes he was their son and they were his guardians. Sometimes something else entirely and that’s how all four of them liked it.

if you could add one duel to each series's story, what would be the duel and where would you put it?
Tumblr media
Duel Monsters
Ishizu vs Like Anyone, just to see how she Duels in matches not planned versus her Brother or Kaiba, I guess. So right before the Finals. It always bugged me she didn't have much of a strategy besides the Grave Flip and the Bomb.
Alternatively, something for Mai after Doma, so she just doesn't flat out vanish from the series. That always sucked.
GX
Hrm, an exhibition match for DD/The D early on/halfway through Season 2, just so we have an actual strategy for him established of how he was the World Champ outside of Bloo-D.
Either that or some sort of culminating match for Trueman. I guess FGD works, but it felt like it was kinda shitty that he just drops off the face of the show until becoming infinite mooks.
Misawa getting a second Duel for the Society of Light would of also been nice.
5D's
Z-ONE versus Sherry, just to have him psychologically pop her. Probably after she vanishes into the time stream.
Either that or more Duels for Lucciano because kid just vorps in terms of relevance for the longest while, and so he can be the twins' sitcom archnemesis.
ZEXAL
... Honestly having trouble thinking of any. ZEXAL was pretty good about the right measure and method of its Duels for the most part.
I just wish they gave Vector and Rio more coherent strategies.
ARC-V
A duel somewhere for Serena to show off her Fusion Parasite corrupted cat girl fusion during the Fusion Arc, I guess.
That and a Duel for Barrett in the same arc. Dude just fucking drops out of the show after his Duel with Yuya in the subway.
Leo vs. The Professor because it was dumb that Leo just VORPS him.
VRAINS
Basically Aoi vs. Heavily modified Cyber Data Bitch Miyu to give her a personal conclusion to her own story arc and not get dunked immediately by Bohman in Mirror Link VRAINS. At least let her save her friend.
SEVENS
Luke or Yuga vs Goha Yuga rematch, I feel like Goha Yuga got the short end of the stick and didn't get a decent proper personal resolution through a Duel after all the brainwashing nonsense.
So like somewhere after Romin got unbrainfucked and before Otes' Doomsday plot.
