If you live in *Ohio* you should have voted "no" by now. But, if you haven't you still have till the end of Aug 8th! Time to search up your poll site and get going!

(But, don't feel bad if this caught you off guard, Ohio Republicans are hoping no one will show up to vote. That's why this election is at an abnormal time of the year when no one is home.)

Vote NO on issue 1. It's a strange constitutional amendment that changes the threshold to make it possible for a small group to veto everything. It's the only thing on the ballot. (Though really vote however you want, look up issue 1 and see what you think. It sounds obscure, but it's more important than it looks. I'm personally convinced a "no" vote is best.)

I am so fucking proud of every single person that put in the work for the vote no campaign and who voted no. Abortion access stays legal in Kansas despite the efforts of ultra conservatives. The work isn’t over though. November is just right around the corner and we have the chance to get rid of Jerry Moran by electing Mark Holland. Not to mention U.S. House District 3 where Sharice Davids is running for re-election. Laura Kelly is running for re-election as governor as well. Plus countless other important races both local and statewide.

Tonight Kansans showed others that we value a woman’s choice when it comes to bodily autonomy. Let’s keep that momentum up.

Congrats to Kansas for defeating the abortion ban!! I’m so goddamm proud of us!!!!!!!!

I’m so grateful for everyone’s long, hard work in making this happen. Yes, most of the country, including Kansas, is very pro-choice, but the GOP are so well-funded, corrupt, duplicitous, evil, and- don’t ever forget this for a minute - incredibly hard-working. This was NOT a guaranteed win, not at all. 

I’m so proud of our voters. The weather yesterday was lethally hot and humid, and we’re all so exhausted, depressed, demoralized, and scared. But people turned UP, yo, including a lot of pro-choice mothers, some of them with very young children or newborns. It makes me weepy to think about some of the folks who went to a lot of trouble to support democracy. 

It was the largest turnout in Kansas voting history, and it looks like the trend is absolutely toward more civic involvement, which means we need more activists and volunteers for our various democratic, anti-fash actions, esp pollwatchers and pollworkers. I know it sounds crazy, but getting involved in your local governments will help with your anxiety and depression. Almost everyone who voted yesterday was filled with such contagious energy and enthusiasm and by the end of the day all of our poll workers were filled with lowkey but REAL joy and hope. People kept saying “this is how it should be, this is democracy at it’s best.” 

I don’t care how cheesy that sounds, it’s true. 

Anyway. thank you Kansas. I love you and I’m so proud of us.

Are you in Ohio? Are you outside Ohio but know a voter there? Today is Election Day for Part One of a two stage process to determine whether Ohio will protect Reproductive Freedom.

tl;dr – Vote No on today's August ballot measure and vote yes on the November measure: August NO — November YES.

There is a lot of interest in this election. If Ohio voters reverse the gerrymandered GOP legislature's decision to ban almost all abortions, Ohio will become the largest state to do so since the regressive Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling by SCOTUS last year.

You can usually tell how much interest there is in an election by the amount of early voting. Early voting has been brisk in Ohio.

Almost 700,000 Ohioans cast ballots in the early voting period leading up to the Aug. 8 special election on the constitutional amendment to make it harder to pass future amendments. More than 118,000 Ohioans have voted early, either by mail or in person, during the last three days of early voting alone on Issue 1. Early absentee ballots began to be sent out on June 23, and the first ballots were returned five days later. Since then, 696,905 Ohioans have voted early by mail or in person at county early voting centers. That’s already more than the 638,708 Ohioans who voted in the legislative primary last August. And it's more than twice the around 289,000 Ohioans who voted early in the primaries in May 2022, in which seven Republicans and three Democrats were running for their parties' nominations for US Senate and both parties also had contested primaries for governor.

If you've received a mail-in ballot but neglected to mail it, you can still deliver it TODAY in person to your election board.

There are about 68,000 ballots that have been mailed to voters that haven't been returned. If they are, they'll be added into the early vote totals. Anyone who has voted their ballot and hasn't mailed it by now should hand deliver it to their local board of elections. They can be deposited into secure drop boxes at those locations. Polls open at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7:30 p.m.

State elections, state legislatures, and state constitutions have been neglected far too long by liberals.

If you live in Ohio, we have a very important vote coming up on August 8th. Issue no.1 on the ballot would get rid of the majority vote. Ohio lawmakers want to make an amendment to the Ohio constitution that would drastically change the majority vote from a simple majority to 60%. This will make it harder for voters to use direct democracy and to create change within the community!

Vote NO in August to defeat Issue 1 - a constitutional amendment that would end Majority Rule and empower special interests

Issue 1 is a proposed constitutional amendment that seeks to raise the threshold for passing all future constitutional amendments from a simple majority to 60%. It is gaining national attention as a political power grab intended to change the rules and rob Ohio voters of their voice.

A CBS News investigation found the effort behind Issue 1 in Ohio is "one flank in a coordinated nationwide campaign" funded by special interests to make it harder for voters to use direct democracy and create change.

Our dedicated team at Ohio Citizen Action has been working tirelessly to inform people about the August special election and protect democracy in Ohio.

The upcoming high-stakes August special election has implications for national politics, and has local election offices scrambling. Republican lawmakers reversed their own law, leading to a tight timeframe and poll worker recruitment challenges.

It ends Majority Rule as we know it:

This amendment shreds our Constitution, ending majority rule in Ohio and taking away our right to decide what happens here. It undermines the sacred principle of “one person, one vote.” It gives a small number of voters, 41 percent, the power to block initiatives that the majority wants.

To protect our freedom:

We all want the freedom to make decisions that affect our lives. Ballot initiatives let us exercise that freedom. But some politicians don’t like the decisions we’ve made so they want to rewrite the rules, so they can get what they want instead of what the people want.

It's a special election for special interests:
