The Ulcerated Tree Spirit || Boss Designs of Elden Ring #6

The Tree Spirits are a recurring enemy in Elden Ring. You'll find them among the roots of Erdtrees, slithering their way through the thick brambles, and you will find them... disgusting, also, because they are inflamed and infested by god only knows what kind of disease, that has caused them to break out into ulcers and swellings.

While not the most lore-central bosses in the game, their names and presence among the roots of the all-important Erdtrees do imply that their appearance has some sort of meaning - if they are spirits OF the Erdtree, then surely their nature reveals something of the tree in turn? If if the spirits of the trees are so catastrophically ulcerated, so poisoned, so rotten, what exactly does that say about the trees themselves?

Of course, we don't have to assume the spirits are friends of the trees. Like most things in Elden Ring, they have a mythological inspiration behind them, which might imply different and rather interesting things about the relationship of these spirits to the trees whose roots they nest in.

AKHDKSJS i was gonna ask you that LMAO

i'm bad at this game and still haven't made it past castle sol/fire giant so i'm basing these primarily off of vibes

1. astel, naturalborn of the void. i love love love love love its design, i love the arena, i found the fight reasonably challenging but not discouraging! i briefly considered getting a sleeve tattoo of the weirdo space bug lol. also shoutout to wing of astel for co-carrying my pure int astrologer build (alongside meteor staff/rock sling lol), prettiest weapon in the game!

2. malenia whom i've never actually fought but again i love her character design (both the blade of miquella and the goddess of rot forms), her movesets are super cool, and i think she's one of the most intriguing and tragic characters in the game.

3. morgott the omen king. if we're going to talk about tragic figures then obviously i have to mention to my boy morgott. he has some of the best voice lines in the game imo, his backstory breaks my heart, and just like astel i found his moveset the perfect balance of challenging and rewarding to learn! also his 2nd phase attacks are very pretty

4. rykard, lord of blasphemy. he's my special little evil wizard. he's my mallgoth babygirl. he's the embodiment of middle child syndrome. he's a fucked up irredeemable little critter i want to stick inside a jar and study. his skull fireball attack is delightfully camp and made me scream with equal parts laughter and terror the first time i encountered it. hot topic WISHES it was on the same level

5. godskin apostle (divine tower of caelid). i hated every moment i spent navigating that fucking tower, but i love the long noodle boy and the bossfight music absolutely slaps

i have a dilemma (aka an easily solved problem that my Issues won't let me solve)

i have my main elden ring character on NG+1 or 2 (I can't remember how the numbering works, this is my second NG+ as this character) and my plan was to do every quest and kill EVERY boss. i have guides for both. i breezed through the first couple of areas before getting to caelid and my run ground to a halt. turns out i hate caelid and then i also realized there's a couple of optional bosses i'm going to dread fighting. like i'll be able to do it, but it won't be fun.

the other reason i'm doing this is because i want to get the last trophy i need for the platinum, i'm missing the elden lord ending trophy

should i just abandon my full boss run and focus on quests? i probably should right. but it feels like giving up. but if i don't give up on the bosses, i'm probably going to quit playing that character all together and she's my main :(
