{▪︎ To take a long break from the chaos, the islands two oldest engines found an old branchline rarely used by the other engines. It had a beautiful view of the ocean, and the two often travelled there during the sunsets. They found it to be a relaxing trip, and travelled there almost everyday when the sun was due to set. ▪︎}

Today Oct. 20 is the RMS Olympic's launch day, back in 1911.
Baby Gordon wants to play with the large ocean liner, nearly giving Scotsman a heart attack. Olympic is very gentle and let's the baby monster engine climb aboard and play on the deck of her bow.

Gordon steamed as fast as he could to get far away from Sheldon, a former friend from Gordon’s White Star days. The young big engine had crumbled under the pressure of big engine society and as a consequence he had ended up accidentally ramming a flatbed truck into their narrow- gauge friend Delma and had damaged her severely. Sheldon had blamed the big engine for letting his pride put their friend in danger. The two would then get into an argument which ended their friendship. Not long after, Gordon would be brought to Sodor by Sir Topham Hatt I at the behest of RMS Olympic, who feared that the big engines were being a bad influence on Gordon.
Thomas, Sheldon, and Delma were trying their best to catch up with their big engine friend.
Up ahead was a warning sign before the bridge, warning engines to slow down as they went do to the rails freezing over during the night do to the cold. Gordon though was in too much of a panic to pay any mind to the sign.
"Gordon, stop, stop"!
Thomas, Sheldon, and Delma shouted at Gordon to stop, but Gordon was unable to hear them. Then there was trouble.
In the blink of an eye Gordon's wheels slipped off of the ice rails and he became derailed right on the bridge. Gordon had enough momentum to fly forward and smash through the bridge safety wall. Gordon soon found himself teeter tottering over the bridge and a long fall into the river below.
The big engine screamed in horror as his crew jumped out of the cab and tried to see if they could readjust the big engines weight to secure Gordon more onto the bridge. Thomas, Sheldon and Delma puffed as fast as their pistons could go, they had to rescue Gordon and they had to do it now.
The bridge was beginning to give way under Gordon's weight.
"Driver tether a rope to Gigantic and me, Thomas, Delma you two pull back as hard as you can when I give the word." Sheldon instructed.
Sheldon's driver did as ask and quickly secured a rope to her engine and Gordon. Thomas and Delma coupled up to one another, then to Sheldon. The older tank engine waiting for the right opportunity to start pulling. When it did, Sheldon immediately let his fellow small engines know.
"Now pull"! Sheldon shouted.
The three began backing up with all their might. They pulled and tugged and tugged and pulled. Their faces were red as can be as the three engines pulled.
"Just a little more, we can do it"! Thomas grunted.
In unison the three small engines gave one final big heave. Gordon was slowly pulled back onto the rails, he watched in horror as the part of the bridge he had just been on crumbled into the abyss below. “Thank Noah’s Ark! Gigantic are you are alright”? asked Delma, giving a big wheesh of relief. Gordon stood there in utter disbelief. Tears began swelling up in the big engine’s eyes as the reality of who he was seeing dawned on him. “D... Delma? Is that really you? I thought you were, I thought I had.” Gordon blubbered, chocking on his words. “It’s me Gigantic, the people at Harland and Wolffe managed to repair me.” Delma said with a soft smile, a tear falling from her one good eye. Sheldon soon steamed up besides Delma. “Nomadic saved us from being scrapped when steam was being abolished. We were hidden away for many years until we were stumbled upon by none other than Bob Ballard himself. He didn’t want us to be stuck in a museum, so Mr. Ballard got into contact with Sir Topham Hatt and donated us to the North Western Railway.” Sheldon explained. “When we heard that we would be going to Sodor, Sheldon and I had a long chat, and we knew that we should try and make amends with our old friend.” Delma added. By now Gordon was bawling. “I’m so sorry my dear friends! Delma I’m sorry for letting my pride put you in danger, and Sheldon I’m sorry for not listening to you and for calling you such awful things”! Gordon bawled. “It’s alright Gordon, we were young, silly and easily influenced by the world around us. I’m sorry for all the terrible things I said too.” Sheldon said, now tearing up himself. “Can we go back to being friends”? Gordon asked. “Of course”! Both Sheldon and Delma answered. Thomas beamed a big smile as he watched the three old friends reunite, and together the four of them happily puffed home.

“Remember when you used to want to go sailing and see what’s beyond the horizon?”
“I do, I guess it was a bit silly of me to think that. Though it would be nice to be out on the ocean all by myself.”
“Wouldn’t you get lonely though? Just being out in the middle of a vast ocean in a tiny boat with no one but yourself?”
“Maybe so, Percy.”
In all seriousness, all at sea was one of my favorite classic ttte episodes as a kid, next to Donald’s duck because I was such a huge freak when it came to anything doing with ducks.
Also, how would you describe the style of my art? Like what vibes do you get from it?

Rises the Moon
I wanted to write about my ttte forest guardian au, but like make summn a little sad and bittersweet to do with Edward, I’ve never posted writing on here before so I hope you enjoy
———————————————————
Edward knew he was old.
He had always been old.
Since he first stepped hoof onto the rough dirt and bare land, he knew he was old. He could feel it in his heart. This time though, as he took his first step onto the shore from which the moon was rising over the ocean behind him, he felt it in his body.
The way his legs protested as his hooves and claws sunk into the wet sand, his movements slow and shaky as he walked further onto the beach and onto the dry land. He bit back a groan, shaking his fur and tail to get rid of the salt water that clung to his body.
It didn’t help that the moon always rose above the ocean, thus dropping poor Edward into the cold water and causing his joints to tense and freeze up.
He steadily made his way across the white sands and up towards the dunes, knowing just beyond that was the start of the forest. The place where he would remain before the moon had to set again.
And then rise.
And then set.
A never ending cycle, something he had been doing for well over thousands of years, since the moon first appeared upon the horizon.
He let out a soft sigh and forced a smile, making his way up the dunes and soon onto coarse grass. Marching across the plains and to the forest, wanting to take refuge amongst the safety of the trees and shrubbery.
Edward noted that the sun was yet to rise, knowing that he’d still set before the sun. ‘Early to rise and early to bed’ is what an old friend once told him, and Edward bit back a snort at that memory.
It was tough remembering humans who had come and gone. Edward never got too close to any of them, but he was always fond of those who stayed, exchanging wisdom and tales with the other creatures.
Another memory struck and Edward paused, letting it take over;
‘I wish I could extend my life like you can’ a human - an old friend he had forgotten the name of - once said to him as they watched the sun dance across the ocean.
‘Why would you say that?’ Edward had asked honestly, confused as to why the human wished to extend their life.
The human had looked up at him, a smile forming. ‘There’s always so much to do, and such little time to get everything done. Living forever seems like a much better choice’
He had sighed, shaking his head as his tail moved to curl around the human. ‘Living for so long isn’t what it’s chalked up to be. You just feel tired after so many years, all worn down.’ Edward warned, frowning down at the human.
‘So why don’t you just lay down, Edward?’
He snapped out of that memory, pushing it down as he pushed forward and forced his aching legs to keep moving, passing the many large trees. Edward could feel his cheeks go red from tiredness and he felt a little pathetic. So old, forcing his body to replace tissue and fur again and again just to extend his life.
Was it all worth it?
To see his friends it was definitely worth it, to watch them grow and interact with him and the world around him. They each had important jobs; James brought the sun and Gordon brought the winds and rains, Henry helped the trees and plants to grow and be healthy, little Percy had his magic to protect them, and Thomas was their saviour.
It was worth it.  It was always worth it. But Edward was so tired.
He soon reached his favourite small meadow, a little waterfall and stream running through the tall grass and wild flowers, completely untouched by humans.
He let out a sigh of relief and slowly entered the small plain, his hooves and claws heavy and dragging against the ground. His dual ears lowered and his tail trailed after him, splitting apart the tall grasses.
He just felt tired.
As Edward settled himself down, catching his breath and getting into a comfortable position near the waterfall, listening to it trickle, he thought back to the memory. He didn’t have an answer then, unsure of how to answer or what to say but this time he had an answer.
It was okay to lay down. He didn’t have to rise again if he didn’t want to. He was old, too old. The moon would rise and set again without him, and the world would simply move on. New creatures would come and go, and Edward would simply be a fleeting memory.
And so Edward laid his head down, curling it around his front legs and bringing his tail up around his hind legs.
It was okay to stay down, he thought quietly, he had earned this.
When they would find his body in the grasses hours later, it would already be cold, but Edward would look at peace, as if he was merely sleeping. Several wild flowers blooming and wrapping around his prone body - moonflowers in bloom, despite the fact it was day - keeping him grounded and down to earth.
The moon would set without him for the first time, and the creatures would be without their oldest friend for the first time too.

TTTE/RWS Headcanon: Caroline’s Pen Pal
I don’t have any in-universe justification for my thought processes here. All I can say is that I like the idea of Caroline being a long-term pen pal of a 1920s American car.
The car in question is a Duesenberg Model A named Evanora, who worked for a Hollywood starlet. Evanora accompanied said starlet on a vacation to Sodor. There, she was offloaded from a ship so the actress could drive her favorite car around the Sudrian countryside.
It was on these drives that Evanora and Caroline met. Caroline was initially wary; the starlet’s speedy driving and Evanora’s opulent design soured her first impression. But later, Evanora apologized for the recklessness. She proved to be soft-spoken, genuine, and graceful. This disarmed and even charmed Caroline.
Over several conversations, Caroline liked hearing about Hollywood and its big personalities, and grew to respect Evanora’s patience and adaptability. Evanora in turn enjoyed the perspective of a slower, quieter life. And she appreciated Caroline’s willingness to speak her (opinionated) mind.
When the vacation ended, the two agreed to keep in touch. They sent letters to each other for decades. Caroline told Evanora how she was slowing down, how she came to be the cricket club’s car. Evanora told her about the ever-changing Hollywood and the other actors she drove over the years.
They helped each other out, too. When Caroline needed repairs the cricket club couldn’t afford — even after pooling their funds and taking donations — Evanora’s next letter showed up with a check enclosed.
Caroline, embarrassed, tried to refuse the money. Evanora wouldn’t have it.
( “This may be terribly selfish of me,” she wrote, “but I don’t want to lose my friend. Your cricket club doesn’t want to lose you either. Consider the impact losing you would have on us, darling. Consider accepting the money for our sakes if not your own.
“Also, I can’t take the money back even if I wanted to. My driver signed that check. I wish you the best of luck at reaching him on his indefinite vacation in Alaska, at my recommendation.”)
Touched and humbled, Caroline accepted the check, but not without vowing to one day repay Evanora.
That day came in the 1980s. By then, Evanora’s current driver was too old to drive anymore. And any potential new drivers didn’t want her to be a daily driver anymore; they saw her as a collector’s item to hoard in a sterile garage.
Evanora developed a taste for the quiet life in her correspondence with Caroline, but she wanted to be outside, to move. So she took another page out of Caroline’s book and advocated for herself.
Unfortunately, nobody would listen in Hollywood. She considered the Auburn Cord Duesenburg Museum in Indiana, but she would be on static display, fawned over by hundreds of people. And she was tired of the celebrity lifestyle.
Caroline stayed appraised of all these things through their letters. As it happened, she’d appeared by this point in The Railway Series and Thomas the Tank Engine. These were opportunities she took on with Evanora’s advice and industry knowledge in mind — a small taste of the “fast lane” that she found enjoyable. There were also royalties and paychecks in the hands of her generous, loyal cricket club.
In her next letter to Evanora, Caroline enclosed an ocean liner ticket for Sodor.
Thrilled, Evanora beat back the last aggressive offers from collectors before her voyage across the Atlantic. By the time she arrived, Caroline also set her up with an assisted living home, where older folks going into town could get there in nostalgic comfort and style. It was a slower-paced life in a place where she wasn’t known as a rare car, but would still be appreciated and fulfilled.
(“Are you sure this is what—”
“It’s what she wants. I know it,” Caroline told the cricket player.)
When they reunited, Caroline could’ve fussed about the things that didn’t go right — delayed timetables, muddy roads, etc. — but she didn’t. She only expressed her delight and gratitude at seeing her dear friend again. And Evanora did the same, deciding to take this new phase of friendship and life one wheel-turn at a time.
(Bonus: Elizabeth is intensely jealous of Evanora. Evanora is oblivious and thinks it’s all friendly rivalry. Caroline fluctuates between scolding and reassuring Elizabeth that she isn’t trying to replace her.)
