On the set of Head (1968).
“‘Did you ever see that documentary on television, the one where the camera showed a South Vietnamese officer shooting [a] Viet Cong prisoner?’ [Peter] asked. ‘No,’ I [Judy Sims] faltered. ‘Well, this officer… just pulled out a gun and shot the guy, a prisoner, no provocation, and the camera caught the whole bloody thing, a human being disintegrated while you watched… that film clip appears in our movie several times.’ And later he said: ‘In spite of the fact that I think our movie is really good, heavy and all that, I don’t dig it. It’s too violent.’ The movie, still called ‘Untitled,’ is not just a Monkee romp; apparently it makes some strong statements that a lot of people won’t like. I don’t know how much control the Monkees themselves had over the production, but I can’t help but think this is one way for them to move away from their limiting ‘teeny‘ image and perhaps do more meaningful things. When I recovered from the movie thing, Peter led us into the living room and played some records he had produced for a Monkees album. And they were very nice; one was ‘Lady’s Baby,’ a tune Peter wrote, another was ‘Alvin the Alligator,’ a talk-song his brothers wrote some them ago; another was sung by Micky. Then he played what he called a ‘taste treat’: Steve Stills singing the Stevie Winwood song, ‘Mr. Fantasy’ (produced by Steve, not Peter). We listened to a few more records while we stretched out on Peter’s comfortable red rug, and then headed down the long, narrow drive to the city.” - Disc and Music Echo, August 17, 1968
“Besides transforming The Monkee image, the film’s other stated goal, as explained by Peter Tork, was to ‘…grab a little reality and walk through the scenes and talk about ourselves and put a little objectivity behind the whole thing — show the people what it was really like.’” - The Charlotte Observer, August 7, 1996

Not the right season AT ALL but
The guys all helping Davy dress up for Halloween and taking him trick or treating. Of course the guys are also dressed up but some of them Michael use Davy as an excuse to why he’s dressing up and going out.
All the other people their age are going to big crazy parties and the guys are just happily trick or treating. And of course there’s one neighbour (probably Babbitt) who always chooses trick and Davy busts out a little dance all excitedly. They then all go crazy on a sugar high :p
TRICK OR TREATING YES!!!
the boys love trick or treating. like whaddaya mean they’re adults? Naw! gotta get the free candy!!
of course davy loves dressing up, mike tags along with him as the tired parent™️ (even though he secretly loves it. davy will sit mike down and start dressing him up in all sorts of things and mike thinks it’s very cute… until he almost gets poked in the eye with a makeup brush and they have to have a talk about watching for people’s eyes. but its halloween, any chance to get a ton of free sweets, c’mon?)
micky LOVES halloween, he’s having a groovy time. his goal is to spook peter, but for some reason the kid won’t get spooked! peter is sometimes worried the holiday will be too scary for him, but he’s found he really likes it! he finds a way to sympathize with all the monsters and so micky has a hard time getting him to be just plain scared.

I missed about half the Linnell interview due to connection issues but I nevertheless have a handful of highlights:
---
Q: Where's a good place to have a little private cry in New York?
JL: Oh! You can cry right on the sidewalk. Nobody will bother you.
JL (after some more thought): Between 49th and 50th, and between Broadway and 6th, there's a little pedestrian walkway. It has a tube to pass from one way to the other. You could probably use that [...] but you'd probably have to plan ahead.
---
Q: I've failed my practical driver's test four times. What's the most fantastical way you've ever failed at something?
JL: I also failed my driver's test once, [immediately after] my mom said "don't worry John, only an idiot could fail this."
---
Linnell's favourite Monkee is Peter Tork, whom he's personally met (and whose daughter is a TMBG fan!), but Mike Nesmith gets an honorary mention; he highly recommends his autobiography Infinite Tuesday.
---
He also went into detail about the logarithmic timeline of the universe he'd drawn on the walls of his house, spanning the house's entire length. His wife and son also contributed, before they ultimately painted over the whole thing. Affectionately, that's an insane thing to do. Go off, Linnell family.

“Those Laurel Canyon days were great. I have a real fondness for that era, 'til about '68. Musically, it was wonderful, and there was this great innocence, an idyllic view of the world. After that, everything got a little... edgy.”
Former Byrd, Chris Hillman as quoted in his memoir “In Between” and photographed with fellow Flying Burrito Brothers bandmate Gram Parson and friends at Peter Tork’s house in 1968.

“First social call was to Peter Tork’s house. When we arrived Peter was wearing a string of beads and very little else, since it was far too hot to be anywhere but a swimming pool that day. Dave Crosby (Byrds) was there, too, and we had a good get-together. […] I suppose the highlight of L.A. this time for us was the session we had at Peter Tork’s place. Peter Asher joined us there — he played bass, Peter Tork was on piano, George and Dave Crosby on guitars and Ringo drumming.” - Mal Evans, The Beatles Monthly, August 1968
“Ringo Starr and George Harrison dropped by the Studio City home, Tork recalled. ‘We went swimming for a while in the pool.‘“ - The News Journal, July 16, 1989
“Just relaxed, just played what you could play. […] I played with Ringo Starr, Ringo, and George once, played with those guys. Same thing: bam, everything settles down, everything’s in order, everything is taken care of, and play what you can play.” - Peter Tork, Musicgroups, 2007
“Steve [Stills] was there [too], and he was embarrassed; he shook hands with George and kind of turned his back on him, the way shy guys will do. [...] We all jammed, Stephen and George and Ringo, and I was on keyboards, and I don’t remember who played bass. It was fabulous to hear Ringo play. My God, what a drummer. God, he was good. He was so solid, and the authority was astounding. I learned so much just by playing with him for five minutes; it was a wonderful experience.” Q: “It’s a bummer it didn’t get recorded.”
PT: “It is too bad, nobody thought to record it. The best we had at the time was cassettes, but even so, that would have been a wonderful jam.” - Peter Tork, Rolling Stone, 2007; published 2019 (x)

Acceleracers Rant - Nolo Edition!
Okay- I’ve been thinking about Nolo A LOT lately. Especially since, according to the Acceleracers Wiki, Nolo and Tone were orphaned at a young age. This means that Tone has been taking care of Nolo since they were both pretty young- and if we’re going to continue to assume the Wiki is right, there was also a time when they were straight up just on the streets.
This honestly makes me think that after their parents passed, Tone was terrified that the Foster system would separate them, so he just did what he could to keep them together, even if that meant sleeping in his car for a few weeks before he could win enough street races to be able to afford steady housing for them. Nolo was probably still pretty young at the time too so I’m sure Tone was working hard to make sure that Nolo didn’t fully understand how bad their situation was.
Like, when Tone raced he was probably thinking “Damn, if I don’t win this, we might not eat tonight,” but to Nolo he was probably just like “Watch me smoke this guy, little bro!”
This makes Tone’s death hit 1000 times harder for me. Like this eighteen-year-old kid just watched his brother die in a firey explosion which I'm sure not only traumatized him but also left him without family. Sure, he has the Teku, but Nolo IDOLIZED his brother to the point where the thought of Tone messing up and crashing was unfathomable so he literally made up a nerative where Tork maliciously murdered his brother in cold blood.
ALSO if you think THATS sad- I just realized that the car that Tone is racing when he crashes in the flashbacks is SYNKRO!!! or at least it looks exactly like it. So that means Nolo took the wreckage from his brother’s fatal crash and spent countless hours rebuilding it from the ground up!! It EXPLODED and he rebuilt it!!! AHHHHH!!!

And the story behind that candle...
“One of the nicest surprises for me while I was up there [in Monterey] was a gift, given to me by a girl-friend, Kay Zar. She knows just how much I dig candles, and when she was wandering around the display booths, spotted a gigantic candle, it has to be at least two feet high. I now have it standing in the center of the fireplace in my house, and it looks just fantastic. As the flame burns, all different colored wax drips… really groovy looking.” - Peter Tork, Fabulous 208, July 15, 1967

“I had many interviews with the affable and sincere young Peter Tork (five years my senior), who was the bass player for the TV pop group, The Monkees. And in every one he would respectfully answer my questions, sign his autograph a dozen times for us to superimpose over his color pin-ups for his droves of adoring fans, and then, politely, try to treat me like ‘one of the gang,’ by encouraging me to come to his house and try LSD. What can I say? It was the ’60s.” — Ann Moses
