I am both shocked and deeply annoyed that so much of Anne McCaffery's work is only available as ABRIDGED audiobooks.
Someone go slap Todd and tell him he'll get way more in the way of money from the rights by re-releasing his mother's work in new, complete audio editions. I wanna listen to the Doona series, dammit.

San Francisco completely outclasses Tampa Bay in dominating performance   49ers crush Bucs 35-7
On the opening play of the game, Bucs safety Keanu Neal sacked San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on what looked to be a textbook tackle. Unfortunately, in today’s NFL looks can be deceiving. Neal was penalized 15 yards for roughing the passer, and the tone of the game was set. San Francisco marched down the field in five plays, covering 67 yards, to score the game’s first touchdown. The 49ers would score four more touchdowns on the day, in cruising to a 35-7 demolition of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, in his first NFL start, threw for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and added a rushing touchdown in a stellar performance. Running back Christian McCaffery ran for 119 yards and scored one touchdown on the ground. He also added 34 yards receiving and scored a touchdown on a beautiful sideline catch. For the game, the 49ers ran for 209 yards, and scored three rushing touchdowns, as they dominated the lifeless Buccaneer defense.
This game was never in doubt as San Francisco scored five touchdowns on their first seven drives to take a 35-0 lead with 14 minutes left in the third quarter. The expectation going into the game, was that Bucs coach Todd Bowles would confuse, and pressure Purdy into making numerous mistakes, forcing turnovers, and keeping the game close. None of those things materialized, as the Bucs did not record a sack on the day, and only forced one turnover that did not result in any points for the offense.
Safety Logan Ryan led the Bucs with nine tackles but was beat badly by McCaffery on his receiving touchdown that put the 49ers ahead 21-0. Lineman Anthony Nelson was active, recording seven tackles, forcing a fumble, and had a would-be interception if not for one of the Bucs eight penalties on the day. The injury to Vita Vea on the opening drive, as well as playing without safeties Antoine Winfield, and Mike Edwards, proved too much adversity for the defense to overcome.
The Buccaneer offense continued its season long putrid play. The first eight drives of the game consisted of a missed field goal, three punts, a loss of possession on downs (in the red zone), a kneel down, and two interceptions. Tom Brady did hit Mike Evans for a 68-yard touchdown that would have tied the game in the first quarter, but it was nullified by another Donovan Smith holding penalty. Truth be told, Smith could be called for holding on almost every play because he continues to put his hands outside of the defender's shoulders. Keeping your hands inside, and on the chest of the defender, is the first rule any offensive lineman is taught. I’m completely flabbergasted how he continues to do this on a regular basis.
Brady threw for 253 yards, on 55 attempts, with a touchdown, and two interceptions. He wasn’t sacked, but was constantly hurried, which forced multiple missed throws. The season long injuries to the offensive line, and receiving core, have undoubtedly disrupted the timing of what was one of the best offenses in the league. The lack of competition at practice, the total reliance on Brady to play perfectly, and the failure of Byron Leftwich to make any meaningful adjustments, have led this offense into being one of the worst in the league.
Rachaad White rushed for 56 of the team’s 69 total rushing yards on the day. This performance further cements their league worst ranking in total yards rushing. Leonard Fournette led the Bucs with six receptions for 33 yards. Chris Godwin added five catches for 54 yards, and Julio Jones also had five catches for 38 yards. The only touchdown for the Bucs was scored by Russell Gage on a crazy bounce off Godwin’s chest, for an eight-yard reception that closed out the scoring for the day.
Rookie punter Jake Camarda had a 61-yard punt but finished the game with a net average of 38.3 yards on three punts. Kicker Ryan Succop made his only kick of the day, and new return man Deven Thompkins had a nice 54-yard kick return. Special teams did not play a factor in this game, as San Francisco dominated from start to finish on offense and defense.
The Buccaneers are who we thought they are. A middle of the road team, that is not talented enough to overcome their mistakes. They lack passion, and explosiveness, play with horrible technique on both offense and defense, and seem to be just going through the motions. On a personal level, losing football games does not bother me, but a lack of competitiveness does. It is extremely frustrating to watch this team week in and week out, muddle their way through football games. Sadly, I don’t expect things to change until changes are made to the coaching staff, as well as the roster.
The Cincinnati Bengals come to Raymond James Stadium next Sunday for a 4:25 PM ET kickoff which will be broadcast on CBS.

Any suggestions on Reading Order for the Pern series?
I only read Dragonsong and Dragonsinger as a kid, you know the stretch of time where you pick up Every book that has a human and a dragon. Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher, Eragon, Dragon on a Pedestal, etc. I know Anne McCaffery wasn't... _Ideal,_ in a lot of things. But at time same time sometimes you just need some dragon themed brain candy after clinicals.
"Not ideal" is such a pain in the ass to me, like, okay lads, the science fiction from 70s which had revolutionary and boundary pushing opinions on women and queers isn't ~pure~ enough.
I know, I know, the implicit rape of mating flights, etc etc, whatever. That's not how rape or trauma work and I hate that people are so weird about it in such stupid ways.
BUT REGARDLESS!!!!
For me, the place to start is Harper Hall, which you already started: Dragonsong, dragonsinger, dragondrums.
After that, you can pick for yourself whether you want to pursue the fantasy political drama elements, or the science fiction survival elements.
For fantasy focus, head to the original trilogy: Dragonflight, Dragonquest, the White Dragon.
Dragonsdawn, Chronicles of the First Fall, and the Masterharper of Pern are more for that science fiction survival element.
I enjoyed Dragongirl, but the rest of the Dragonheart series don't super do it for me, so that's a tossup.
I haven't read Sky Dragons yet, because I want to continue living in the magical world of 2012 when Todd McCaffery claimed he "would be nonbinary if he was a few years younger" and that his "next book will have a blueriding lesbian."
Whatever he actually produced cannot live up to the ideal in my mind for that, tbqh.

You left ground and sky weeping, mind and soul full of grief. No one can take your place in existence, or in absence.
He’s dead. Robin the Boy Wonder, heir to two legacies and follower of one. He sacrificed himself to save everyone else. It was supposed to be a recon mission.

Heart of Gold
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/2UgYF9H
by Bravehardt, Foxglove_Fiction
It's been 200 years since the last major catastrophe from worlds beyond their own, and with each passing year, the Sanctums of the world seem to be considered more and more things of antiquity, especially in the face of technological advancements. Some people still honour the old ways, and technology alone doesn't stop children from dreaming of roaming the skies and protecting the Earth mounted on the backs of the massive dragons that watched over the world centuries ago. But the dragons and their riders seem to keep to themselves more than anything in recent years.
For a man born of an empire that runs the world's largest ammunitions company, the dream might be considered childish, but Tony Stark still aspires to join the ranks of the fabled dragon riders. It may be that he's destined for much more than that.
Inspired by the Dragonriders of PERN series by Anne and Todd McCaffery.

Busy Ranking - Week 6
Updated Power Rankings
1. The Busy Killers (4/1/0) ↑ [Up 2 Spots] The Busy Killers keeps winning. Losing Delvin Cook this week hurts but this team has shown us they are resilient. They have held together with shaky play from Wentz and now with the recent signing of the 'Red Rifle' Andy Dalton, it looks like Wentz's days as the starter are numbered. This isn't about that though these are the Power Rankings and we're focused on The Busy Killers continued to dominate play each week. In a variety of ways, The Busy Killers are finding ways to pile up the points and shut down their opponents. Quietly this team has garnered the top spot and isn't being talked about too much. They've got a great coaching staff and scouts who are making waves in their locker room and through free agency. Bringing Gronk in was a big help last week, one that shouldn't be ignored. At the top of our Power Rankings, The Busy Killers have big wins against three above .500 teams and a 3/0/0 division record, they are on their way.
2. Evolution (4/1/0) ↑ [Up 2 Spots] In back-to-back weeks Evolution knocked off the last two remaining undefeated teams. Storming back against Hyrule Empire with the help of Aaron Rodgers's strong arm in Week 4 and with their elite defense in Week 5 against Black Hole Son they find themselves in the 2nd spot in our rankings. Evolution got revenge on Black Hole Son who defeated them in the Championship game last season, snapping Black Hole Sons' 17 game winning streak dating back to last season wasn't something that came easy. Evolution had to battle to the very last play of the game to get the win on a forced fumble recovery on the kickoff. Evolution may hold the 2nd spot but they had to battle from behind two weeks in a row, although that shows the will to never give up, they were shaky victories, and without a strong Week, 6 performance win or lose, Evolution could find themselves falling from the 2nd spot.
3. Black Hole Son (4/1/0) ↓ [Down 2 Spots] Black Hole Son finally fell from the top spot. Falling two spots to the 3rd place in our rankings isn't something they should worry too much about. They played a tough and tight game against Evolution but faltered in the final minutes. Losing Dak Prescott in the same week they suffer their first loss is what hurts this team more than even the loss. What will this team look like without Dak? Wednesday, they agreed on a trade with Evolution who sent Big Ben to Vegas in exchange for Hardman and draft picked between each team, Black Hole Son then sent Derek Carr to Balls Deep in a rare divisional trade for wide receiver Preston Williams. Black Hole Son has several questions now entering Week 6 but they still have a surefire thing in the backfield and as long as they can keep churning those first downs with their running backs, Ben shouldn't have to do too much.
4. Hyrule Empire (4/1/0) ↑ [Up 1 Spot] Hyrule Empire moved up to 4th after falling three spots last week and sitting at 5th. A big comeback victory late in the 4th quarter helped push Hyrule Empire to 4/1/0 on the season and gave them added confidence that they are for real. A majority of the focus is on Russell Wilson for this team and that's fair but let's not forget about this powerhouse defense who has done their part in helping Hryule Empire find themselves at 4/1/0 on the season. In a BIG Week 6 game, the defense will need a massively strong performance to maintain a top 5 ranking for Hyrule Empire.
5. Buds Bums (3/2/0) ↑ [Up 3 Spots] Wow! Buds Bums has found themselves in close affairs this year and has been able to pull out some tough games. The big win on Sunday against division rival LilShupeScoresBIGPoints was one they needed to make this division more difficult for LilShupeScoresBIGPoints to just run away with. Lamar Jackson and Todd Gurley are the bedrock of this team. The gameplan goes through them and that is where the points come from. If they can continue playing big boy football, Buds Bums will maintain a top 5 spot in our ranking week in and week out.
6. Rainelo Hawks (3/2/0) ↑ [Up 1 Spot] Rainelo Hawks held onto what should have been an easy win, instead, they narrowly escaped Balls Deep. Rainelo Hawks team isn't flashy, they don't scream contender, but they're atop their division and in a good spot. Last week Miles Sanders finally looked like himself, if he can continue that kind of play each week, Rainelo Hawks will soon be a contender with Kyler Murray and Sanders leading the charge.
7. LilShupeScoresBIGPoints (3/2/0) ↓ [Down 5 Spots]It was a punch to the gut for LilShupeScoresBIGPoints who suffered a division loss to Buds Bums. Josh Allen finally came back down to earth and entered the earth's atmosphere too fast. Allen didn't play well at all and it gave way to the loss. Higbee hasn't looked good the last two weeks and the lack of Julio Jones, their star playmaker showed last weekend. Luckily for them, Julio will be returning, Josh Allen won't make the same mistakes over and over, and they're bound to get Higbee involved sooner than later. LilShupeScoresBIGPoints may sit 7th but they won't be there long. This team is too good to not correct the mistakes they suffered last week.
8. The Canadian Cripplers (3/2/0) ↑ [Up 2 Spots] The Canadian Cripplers put it to PURPLEHAZE last week, pouring on the points. Brady didn't let up. The team is running on all cylinders in all phases of the ball. The start of our rankings this team was ranked one of the worst teams, they looked like they wouldn't stand a chance to be a middle of the road team. They've surpassed the expectations for them already and if Brady can keep playing to this level they'll continue to build on their success. A massive two-game winning streak against lowly teams was what this team needed to do as the true test comes this week in a division against with Aaron Rodgers and Evolution, who holds a 13/4/0 record all-time over these Canadian Cripplers.
9. VanillaGorillas (3/2/0) ↓ [Down 3 Spots]VanillaGorillas fans will yell that they are under The Canadian Cripplers after defeating them a few weeks ago but our rankings don't depend on who or who you haven't beaten. They depend on preformance and how a team shows up. VanillaGorillas dropped the ball last week, late, very late in the game. This defense allowed Hyrule Empire came back from a 24 point deficit. We say it every week, this team is young, they have a young core and there will be growing pains. This was one of those games they will look back on in the season and feel those growing pains.
10. Straight Edge Society (2/3/0) ↑ [Up 4 Spots]Is it me or does this team like to play on the edge? Every game they've played this year minus the Week 2 game has been a nail-biter. They are a fan of the dramatics I'd say. Their fans probably have heart-attacks every week. You better start taking an aspirin or two before sitting down to watch this team play. Straight Edge Society barely held on against Thunderbuddy4Life, a game they needed to turn their season around. They did it on the arm of Mahomes, the hands of Parker and Brown, and the legs of Gibson. The defense was able to hold down the fort in the waning seconds of the 4th quarter, stopping Thunderbuddy4Life from pulling out the dub. Straight Edge Society now at 2/3/0 and up four spots will look to continue their winning streak against the new franchise in Week 6.
11. Thunderbuddy4Life (2/3/0) ↓ [Down 2 Spots]Benching Ruggs, sitting Baker, disciplining Michael Thomas, and relying on Matt Ryan is all a recipe for failure. Thunderbuddy4Life did all of that and yet almost came away with the victory in Week 5. Down 2 spots they are looking to fix things in a big way. Justin Jackson looks like a massive steal through the waiver wire, and what's better than a two-headed-running game? A three headed-running game! Thunderbuddy4Life has everything they need to be a player in this league for this season, at 11th it looks worse than it is. They'll be alright but they need to start putting together wins if they want to contend for the Pacific, a division they are used to winning.
12. BroncosTillDeath (2/3/0) ↓ [Down 1 Spot] Winners of two straight, BroncosTillDeath looked like a far better team this second meeting against Ultimate Savages than they did in Week 1. Acquiring Gardner Minshew was just what this team needed. The quarterback situation on this franchise was iffy, to begin with, this season and after losing Barkley you knew they were going to have to rely on the quarterback more so. Trubisky wasn't the answer and Daniel Jones hasn't made enough strides to take the reigns completely. Minshew only in his second year is playing like a veteran. He is savvy and has a way of commanding the offense, something this team was lacking. Though they are down one spot in our rankings, they've looked leaps and bounds better the last two weeks and have a chance to keep making headway.
13. Ultimate Savages (1/4/0) ↑ [Up 2 Spots] Ultimate Savages are up two spots through defacto - being the best 1/4/0 team. It's been a tough ride for them since Week 1 and losing McCaffery. Last week they were trying to make a comeback but failed to complete it. They haven't been the same since CMC became sidelined. Brees has looked a bit sharper but still not at the elite level we know him to play. Their running game has been lackluster for several weeks and the receiving game has only been going through Mike Evans. They need more production from everyone on the field. Ryan TanneGOAT will get the nod this week against Straight Edge Society, can Tannehill help this team get off the snide?
14. PURPLEHAZE (1/4/0) ↓ [Down 1 Spot] PURPLEHAZE has not looked good all year. They have been unable to stream together consistency and a focus on winning games. Kirk Cousins isn't the guy, I am just going to say it. It's time to put in Justin Herbert. The kid can play and he has an arm to match. Jamaal Williams and Robert Tonyan have been the saving grace on this team, even La'Veon Bell hasn't done anything to get fans excited. In a loss that was embarrassing to recant, PURPLEHAZE will need to find solutions quickly if they want to turn their season around, it doesn't get any easier either. Their next five games are against four teams above .500 and two of those games are back-to-back divisional games, starting this week against Rainelo Hawks.
15. Yuba City Sultans (1/4/0) ↓ [Down 3 Spots] What is going on with these Sultans? I can't say it's the coaching staff, they are world-class, I can't say it's the players, they are balling out. What I can say is it's their schedule. In back-to-back weeks they have played Black Hole Son and The Busy Killers, this weekend they get LilShupeScoresBIGPoints. That is a brutal three-game stretch, whether you're home or away. Those are three of the better teams this year and have had better gameplans going in than Yuba City Sultans. I don't want to start passing blame to anyone on this team because they have everything they need in order to be a contender, I think it's just been a stream of bad luck, and the other team just wanting it that much more. Yuba City Sultans rounds out the 1/4/0 teams and although they are one of the more complete teams in the league, they haven't been able to put it all together through four quarters. Until then, they'll remain toward the basement.
16. Balls Deep (0/5/0) — [Remains 16th] Balls Deep is 0/5/0 they are having an awful year but they are trying to make moves and it has shown on the field. They almost pulled out a victory over Rainelo Hawks last weekend. It was close, ten or so points separated the two teams. With the signing of rookie receiver Claypool and trading for Derek Carr, Balls Deep may be able to find a silver lining in being so bad so far. They've been able to be first on the waiver wire and claim the guys they feel will give them the best opportunity to win going forward. 0/5/0 is a tough hole to climb out of but I'm excited to see what Carr can do in the bay area for this second-year franchise looking for any answers.

RTARL’s NFL Week 6 Extravapalooza
Tumblr media
In this reporter’s opinion, Week 6 brings us BY FAR the the strongest slate of games we’ve had this season. For example, a game pitting a normal squad against either Miami or Washington is automatically a dud based on their respective shittiness, but this week those two poor, unfortunate teams are facing EACH OTHER to determine the King of Crap Mountain. It’s a must-watch for fans of trashy entertainment, imo.
But that’s not all! We’ve also got a showdown pitting two “Future Face of the League”-level QBs against one another in Kansas City, Lamar Jackson facing a weak opponent that should allow him to do crazy things again, and several match-ups between legitimate playoff contenders. Even the boring-ass Titans and Broncos have the courtesy to confine themselves to a single game this week so they can be easily ignored. AND it all starts at 9:30 AM Eastern Time because of the NFL’s ridiculous insistence on playing games in a far away land that couldn’t care less about American football! It should be a fun day, please make sure you have plenty of snacks.
You know the drill by now, my picks are in BOLD, and the lines are courtesy of Vegas Insider.
Tumblr media
EARLY GAMES
9:30 AM EST Kickoff: Carolina Panthers (-2.5) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (in London)
Panthers QB Kyle Allen has made me look like a dumb dick for insisting that he sucks, there’s no doubt about it. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop, of course. KYLE ALLEN ISN’T GOOD AND THE TEAM IS WINNING WITH DEFENSE AND MCCAFFERY!
Speaking of the Panthers’ defense, CB James Bradberry is having an awesome season, and he should keep Bucs WR Mike Evans in check. This means that Tampa’s other stud WR, Chris Godwin, should feast once again. This will infuriate me personally, as someone who owns Evans in fantasy and traded away Godwin recently.
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-11)
If the Ravens can’t take care of business against the beat-up, sad-sack Bengals, I’ll have no choice but to accept that I jumped the gun with my Lamar Jackson excitement. I’m picking them to beat the 11-point spread in large part because I long for the halcyon days of Week 2, when Lamar was racking up comical statistics and a man’s word still MEANT something, ya know?
Seattle Seahawks (-1.5) at Cleveland Browns
I think the fact that he’s one of the world’s foremost goobers obscures the fact that Russell Wilson is one of the best handful of players in the entire NFL. In all seriousness, how many QBs would you take over Wilson? For me, Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew are the only guys I’d have ahead of him.
I’m torn between wanting the Browns to be good because I like a bunch of their players as individuals, and wishing for the comfort and reassurance that knowing that they are and always will be a smoldering trash heap provides. The Browns’ perpetual ineptitude can be the anchor we all need in these times of great upheaval.
Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs (-4)
Mahomes! Watson! Hopkins! Hill (probably)! Watt! Mathieu! Hardman! Mercilus! I know the names of several players involved in this game!
This should be a fun one, I give the edge to K.C. because Andy Reid is way better than Bill O’Brien at this whole “coaching NFL football” thing.
New Orleans Saints at Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5)
Tumblr media
Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings (-3)
This one feels like a tough, low-scoring brawl to me. I like it very much as a counterweight to the Chiefs-Texans for watchin’-em-up purposes. Eagles-Vikings will be a game dictated by field position, patience, and a few well-timed risks. A slow-burn that rewards those paying attention, as opposed to the constant pyrotechnics and roller-coaster action K.C. - Houston should provide. To put it into seasonally appropriate terms, Vikings-Eagles is “The VVitch,” Chiefs-Texans is “IT.”
Washington Football Team (-3.5) at Miami Dolphins
I love this perfect storm of garbage so much. With the caveat that you should CLEARLY never take gambling advice from me, there’s no way in hell anyone should feel confident betting on this game in any form or fashion. There’s almost nothing that could happen during these 60 minutes (at least!) that would surprise me.
Tumblr media
LATE GAMES
Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) at Arizona Cardinals
I just can’t with the Falcons anymore. They need to make wholesale changes, in my opinion as a certified football genius. Hey, why not reunite Julio Jones with Kyle Shanahan and trade him to the 49ers? Jon Gruden would probably trade 4 1st round picks for Matt Ryan. BLOW IT UP!
There’s a chance David Johnson isn’t going to play in this one, I’m making my pick assuming he will and that he’ll be close to his usual self.
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams (-3)
I originally had the Rams here, but now that Todd Gurley has been ruled out I had to make a change. It’s not that Gurley has been even close to the MVP-level form he showed most of last season, but what he has been is a reliable safety-valve for Jared Goff in the passing game. The Niners can really rush the passer, ergo Goff will need to get rid of the ball quickly, ergo Gurley would’ve really helped. I don’t even know if I’m using “ergo” correctly. ERGO FUCK YOURSELF.
I want to buy the San Fran hype, but I fully acknowledge that THEY AIN’T PLAYED NOBODY, PAWWWL!  This game will be their toughest test yet, even without having to deal with Gurley.
Dallas Cowboys (-7) at New York Jets

Tennessee Titans at Denver Broncos (-2)
Don’t even glance at this shit by accident.
Sunday Night Game: Pittsburgh Steelers at Los Angeles Chargers (-6.5)
The Chargers at home against a reeling Pittsburgh team starting undrafted free-agent rookie third-stringer Devlin Hodges at QB--what could go wrong? If there’s one team that could blow a layup like this, it is DEFINITELY the Phil Rivers-era Chargers. I’d be actively rooting for that very thing if their opponent were anyone other than the loathsome Steelers. I’m enjoying their demise too much to want it to stop now.
Monday Night Game: Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers (-4)
I.....am buying the Lions being legit this season? This seems like a mistake, but here we are. I’ve always felt a kinship with Matthew Stafford since we’re both cursed/blessed with 12-year-old faces on the bodies of multimillionaire professional athletes. So, I’m rooting for him to lead Detroit to glory. I think the true star of this game will be Kerryon Johnson, because he’s awesome and Green Bay struggles defending the run.
I’m enjoying the Aaron Rodgers-Matt LeFleur weekly sideline spats. I actually think their dynamic is much healthier than the passive-aggressive proxy war Rodgers was constantly waging with former Head Bitch In Charge Mike McCarthy. I reserve the right to change my mind on this if Rodgers strangles LeFleur with piano wire during this game.

Heart of Gold
by Bravehardt, Foxglove_Fiction

There is nothing better than a good combo pick in the NFL draft. Like the Colts taking Andrew Luck then two Tight Ends in the next two rounds or the Jaguars taking Blake Bortles then Marquis Lee and Allen Robinson in the second round. Sometimes picks just kinda go well together.
These picks, man…these picks go kinda fuggin’ well together.
1.White Christ McCaffery (Rd 1) and Curtis Samuel (Rd 2), Carolina Panthers.
I really wish Curtis Samuel’s parents were thinking of how electric he would be on the field when they named him because they clearly were not. Carolina’s top Wide Receivers are big and slow like Tight Ends and their best receiver is actually their Tight End. Their Running Back looks like Mike Tolbert and their Fullback is (was) actually Mike Tolbert. Not really complaining about that last part but I’m making a point here. Carolina’s offense needed to catch up to their defense and this is how you do it. Cam is a sun and until this draft he had a bunch of large, dense planets circling him. These two picks change the pace of the entire team.
2.Jamal Adams (Rd 1) and Marcus Maye (Rd 2), New York Jets.
Todd Bowels did magic things with his deep stable of safeties in Arizona. He had a good combo in Marcus Gilchrist and Calvin Pryor when he got to New York however they were not actually a good combo but more like…just like two safeties that both played for the same team. Adams and Maye are both dynamic, versatile, and aggressive football players. I assume Maye will mostly play center field while Adams is used as a Swiss Army knife closer to the line of scrimmage but they are the type of guys who will be swapped in and out allowing Bowles to find mismatches. The only real reason I didn’t rank these two as my favorite combo pick is because, let’s be real, how much fucking good are two safeties going to do the Jets?
3.Tyus Bowser (Rd 2) and Tim Williams (Rd 3), Baltimore Ravens.
Ty Bowser may have been my favorite player in the draft by the time draft day actually got here. Raw, athletic, aggressive, versatile. He will probably play inside for this team and scoop 100 tackles but he could also end up on the edge scoopin’ 10 sacks. Not sure if it will happen this year but if it clicks for him early he will be a serious contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Tim Williams could be the steal of the draft. He was a top five selection in most of the pre-season mock drafts and other than some off-field stuff maybe and some try-hard stuff maybe he just kinda cooled off and fell to the third round. He’s got loads of potential though. He may not ever be more than a situational player for the Ravens but like Elvis Dumervil, he could still be a very productive pass rusher. If John Harbaugh gets the most out of these guys he has two guys that can play inside or outside, rush the passer, stop the run, cover Tight Ends, etc. As a Steelers fan, I would have loved for these two to end up on Pittsburgh’s roster. Even if they had taken these two in rounds 1 and 2 I would’ve been completely satisfied.
4.Jonathan Allen (Rd 1) and Ryan Anderson (Rd 2), Washington Redskins.
The Redskins just got SOOOOO lunch pale bro. Jonathan Allen was hands down the best pick of the entire draft. He was the best player in this draft and 16 of these dudes went before him. SIXTEEN. I watched Alabama play my alma mater from the sidelines and I’ve never seen my Arkansas Razorbacks look more helpless than trying to block Jonathan Allen. He is Justin Smith without a Budweiser tattoo. In fact, if Jonathan Allen comes into the pre-season with a Budweiser tattoo I will come back and edit this post and move this pick up to #1. Then if taking the best player on one of the best college defenses of a generation wasn’t enough they went and got one of his college teammates. The fact that they now have 2/11 of that starting defense is a good way to re-start that defense. Unless they end up playing the Texans in a Super Bowl because we all saw what Deshaun Watson did to 11/11 of the players on that D.
5.Leo Fournette (Rd 1) and Cam Robinson (Rd 2), Jaxonville Jaguars.
I’d like to say this is a commitment to getting tougher on Offense but I think it’s safe to say that this is a commitment to hiding Black Bortles. However, if both these guys stay healthy the Jaguars will definitely be tougher on Offense. I think we will all miss watching their offense consist of Bortles closing his eyes and launching atom bombs to Allen RobinHurns but you probably won’t have to wait long because I have a feeling Fournette is hurt by game uuuhhhh four? six? Let’s call it game five. And then there’s Cam Robinson. He has allllll the potential in the world. Just like Cyrus Kouandjio and DJ Fluker did. I feel like I’m not making a good argument for these two. How about this..I love these picks. If the Steelers or the Patriots or the Ravens or whatever had picked these two we are talking rookie Pro Bowl alternates be we over here talking about the Jags. Somehow they it won’t work out. Good look though, Jags.
6.Larry Ogunjobi (Rd 2) and Caleb Brantley (Rd 6), Cleveland Browns.
Like Tyus Bowser earlier, Ogunjobi is a second round pick who checks every box but is just a bit raw. He should benefit from playing between Myles Garrett and Danny Shelton. He should never see a double team and he should be allowed to just get up field. Generally, I would never say landing in Cleveland is a good situation for a rookie but I get a feeling Hue Jackson saw a younger Geno Atkins and should know how to deploy him. Caleb Brantley is going to push him from day one for the starting three-tech position. I would say the Browns got a great bargain with Brantley but that would be unfair because if you weren’t aware he broke a girl’s face right before the draft but I get a feeling Hue Jackson coached under Marv Lewis and is super into second chances when a difference making Defensive Tackle is sitting there in the sixth round.
7.Derek Rivers (Rd 3) and Antonio Garcia (Rd 3), New England Patriots.
These guys aren't really a combo pick because they play on opposite sides of the ball but how..how..the..shit do the Patriots not have a pick until the third round and yet come away with a potential future Left Tackle and star pass rusher. Especially Derek Rivers. Belichick trades away his best player on Defense (Jamie Collins) then goes out and gets a younger, more athletic version of him a round later than he did for Collins a few years ago. Antonio Garcia’s only real knock was he needed to beef up a little. My guess is he spends the next couple years as a Tight End/Offensive Tackle hybrid then eventually takes over for Nate Solder when the Patriots decide they don’t want to pay him.
8.Rayshawn Jenkins (Rd 4) and Desmond King (Rd 5), San Diego Chargers.
This is probably the biggest projection because Jenkins is super raw and Dez King could end up playing Nickel Back. But this could be Gus Bradley’s new Earl Thomas/Kam Chancellor. Like Diet Earl Thomas/Kam Chancellor. Not sure how King fell to the fifth round but I think he’ll be a player.

Note
Personally, I say still read Pern (the stuff with Anne McCaffery's name on it, not her son Todd) just to formulate your own opinion on the matter. Try a book and if YOU don't like it, you don't have to read more, but I say give it your own try before axing it out. I can give you a place to start, IF you want it, but this is where dragonriding first began in mainstream media and it's always good to at least try.
Well now see, I’m conflicted...I’d love to give them a try, really; anything involving dragons is something I’m willing to try at least once. But I’m worried as to how different it will be than what I’m used to. Before, when I said the Pern RP me and my friends did took liberties...I wasn’t joking, from what I understand from the two experts, we did a fair amount of diverging.
I’m honestly not sure if I want to or not...all I know is that the only reason I want to read them at all is out of respect, and that alone I don’t think is enough reason, ya know? Plus I don’t think my mental construction of Pern as influenced by our non-conforming RP would mix very well with whatever canon I end up finding.
It will probably be less trouble for me not to read them, but I will always respect them and be grateful for the changes they made to the image of dragons in media.
