On Thursday, August 24th, a 21-year old pregnant woman was accused by a Kroger employee of stealing liquor in Ohio. The cops that went after her shot and killed her as well as her unborn child.
Accused means guilty, not responding how the cops want means resisting, trying to flee cops means trying to kill the cop, and guilty of a crime means that your death is warranted. Two lives lost over some booze. Absolutely inexcusable. And forever fuck that rat ass Kroger employee. I hope your name comes out too.
I hope Ta’Kiya Young’s family finds peace, or support and comradery through their rage.
The body cam footage won’t be out until Monday and it’s unclear due to pig protection laws when or if the killers’ names will be made known. Keep one another safe.

Ta’Kiya Young shooting highlights sobering reality for Black pregnant women in America
Black women are also more likely to be killed by police. According to an analysis by The Washington Post, between 2015 and 2020, they represented 20 percent of women fatally shot by police, though they were only 13 percent of the female population. According to a 2019 study, Black women are 1.4 times more likely to be killed by police than White women.
“For Black women, it’s so much more than abortion. Our reproductive health concerns are broader than that,” said Regina Davis Moss, president of In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda. “[Ta’Kiya Young’s killing] is a perfect example of that. Not only did she not have bodily autonomy, she was not able to carry her child in a safe environment. And she’s not going to have the opportunity to raise that child because that was taken away from her by force.”

Ta’Kiya Young’s murder was avoidable and utterly unacceptable. Police violence is gun violence - plain and simple. Addressing our gun violence epidemic means creating a reality where Black women and girls can exist without the constant threat of getting shot by the police. That starts with critically reexamining police use of force, and how we hold law enforcement accountable so that tragedies like this never happen to another family again.
