Hi! First I want to say that I love reading your blog/reviews, you always help me find something new to read. I was wondering if you can recommend me some books with a specific trope I usually enjoy and been craving to read lately. I don't know if you've read ''Just Imagine'' by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but I really loved how the heroine was poor in the beginning and was kind of unrefined and an ''ugly swan'', but then grew up to be elegant and beautiful and smarter. Any similar recs?
Oh, thank you so much! That is extremely flattering. I try my best!
First off, if you haven't watched Sabrina (both the one with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn AND the one with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond, if I'm being real) you absolutely should, because those movies are EXACTLY that and pure romances. Heroine is the shy butler/driver guy's daughter who of course is not noticed despite being played both times by stunners, and she's in love with this cold, grumpy tycoon's playboy younger brother. She forlornly goes to Paris for a while and returns super chic and sophisticated. She immediately catches the attention of the guy she believes she's in love with, but he's engaged to this woman and his marriage would be strategically important for the company, so the older brother decides to distract Sabrina from him... and of course... falls in love for real.
When the Duke was Wicked by Lorraine Heath might hit for this! The main reason why the hero didn't notice the heroine is that she's a good bit younger than him (nine years) buuuut she was infatuated with him from a young age. Her father is a duke and her mother is formerly lower class, and she was brought up around a gambling hell, so she was seen as like... kind of a semi-tomboy card shark who spent a lot of time with her brothers. She asks the hero to help her find a good husband, and he's immediately like "well shit, she sure has grown up... a lot hotter". An all time favorite of mine--so romantic and passionate.
I hate to recommend this, because I don't... dislike it, but I have a lot of issues with it. But you might want to check out Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. Penelope is seen as gauche, largely due to her mother, but begins getting noticed (mostly by Colin) later. A thing I do dislike about this is that like... a part of this is that she lost weight. Lol, I often describe When the Duke Was Wicked as "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton if it didn't suck" so idk, proceed with caution.
Ever Yours, Annabelle by Elisa Braden. Heroine was this a tomboyish type who followed her brother and his best friend around, totally infatuated with the best friend. Then tragedy strikes and they're separated for yeeears. She and the hero meet up again, and he's like "oh. She's DIFFERENT".
I JUST finished Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare, and it's so good. The heroine's parents died when she was young, and she was basically raised by her older brother, who's like, not super responsible and a really hands-off guardian. So she always tagged along with him and his friends and become this hellion known for riding horseback and running around barefoot and being a total tomboy. When her brother's rake friend is about to get engaged, she goes to his other friend and asks for his help in breaking up the relationship, because she's in love with the rake. Supposedly. The friend she asks for help is super exasperated, but begins realizing... Oh damn...... she's like.... super alluring now. It's very hilarious, because she still is super rebellious. She's not very elegant, but she is everything else.
Olivia and the Masked Duke by Grace Callaway may give this to you. The heroine is kind of a childish hoyden type, and the hero is a good bit (11-12 years) older than her and is a widower. When she's like, 18-20 she catches him..... disciplining.... a woman... very consensually. And she becomes determined to have him. Of course, she is all grown up now, so he finds it more difficult that expected to have him.
A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean. The heroine was this kind of wildish girl, who was best friend with the neighbor boy until he disappeared after losing everything while gambling. Years later, he finds her again and she's now this like... spinster, but elegant and very respected. He forces her to marry him for Plot Reasons and they kind of need to reconcile with their feelings. Bonus: this Penelope is plump and stays plump, and Bourne cannot get enough of her. One of those "they have sex and he lays there and has an existential crisis" books.
The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling has elements of this! The hero and heroine first meet briefly when they're in college, and he's from this locally famous family and is sort of refined, whereas she has purple hair and is kind of a mess. They don't see each other again for about ten years, during which she becomes this very flirty, admired girl in town (if a bit of a wildchild). Not very elegant, but like--he doesn't even remember her as she was lol.
Some of these aren't exact matches, but I do recommend checking them out because they may hit the vibe!

Raza Jaffrey as Dr. Neal Hudson, an ER attending physician. A British-Indian former surgeon, his approach is quieter and more people-oriented, than his mentor Dr. Rorish. He connected with Christa during her first year of residency. In "Hail Mary", Hudson becomes a surgical attending, and is once again assigned to the ER (season 1).[7][8]
Bonnie Somerville as Dr. Christa Lorenson, a mature first-year resident. She was married with a son who died of brain cancer. Her experience and her divorce inspired her to attend medical school (season 1).[7]
Melanie Chandra as Dr. Malaya Pineda, a first-year resident (seasons 1–2). She went to medical school and did her internship at Angels Memorial, and is more familiar with the ER. She is a lesbian, who was once involved with a resident when she was a medical student.
William Allen Young as Dr. Rollie Guthrie, an ER attending physician with a very nurturing style; he takes Angus under his wing in his first days in the ER. Guthrie's wife committed suicide, a death that strained his relationship with his son, a surgeon. During season 2, Guthrie is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, and undergoes corrective neurological surgery to delay the onset of symptoms. Guthrie had a daughter who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while Guthrie tried to save his son from a similar death.
Harry Ford as Dr. Angus Leighton, a first-year resident. His father is on the hospital board. He feels overshadowed by that and by the achievements of his older brother, a former resident, but slowly grows in confidence. In his second year he is encouraged to transfer and become a surgical resident.
Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dr. Mario Savetti, a first-year resident. He grew up poor and sees emergency medicine as his way out. He worked as a bartender before medical school.
Luis Guzmán as Jesse Salander, known as "Mama". A senior nurse who manages the residents, Jesse is tough but caring and supportive of the students. He and Dr. Rorish have a long-term, close friendship.
Boris Kodjoe as Dr. Will Campbell, Chief of Surgery. In season 2 he is assigned as the new Chief of the combined Surgery and Emergency medicine department in order to save costs, causing strife between him and Rorish. Campbell has a disabled daughter (season 2–3; recurring in season 1).
Jillian Murray as Dr. Heather Pinkney, a surgical resident who becomes involved with Mario.(season 2; recurring in season 1). He quickly ends it when he hears about her side relationship with Dr. Campbell. She gets in further trouble when it's revealed she's providing Angus with Adderall. When confronted by Campbell, she threatens to turn their past relationship into a sexual harassment case.
Noah Gray-Cabey as Elliot Dixon, a first-year resident in the ER (season 2-3).
Emily Tyra as Noa Kean, an ER resident and former dancer. She begins a relationship with Dr. Mario Savetti (season 3; recurring season 2)
Emily Alyn Lind as Ariel Braeden (season 3; guest seasons 1–2)
Shiri Appleby as Dr. Carla Niven, a former resident at Angels Memorial and Malaya's ex-girlfriend. She is diagnosed with leukemia while pregnant, and refuses treatment not wanting to harm the baby.
Christina Vidal as Dr. Gina Perello, the replacement Director of the Emergency Department at Angels Memorial, who takes over when Dr. Taylor is put on leave.
Gabrielle Carteris as Amy Wolowitz, R.N., a nurse in the Emergency Department.
Meagan Good as Dr. Grace Adams, returns to the ER after volunteering in Haiti. She is Dr. Neal Hudson's ex-girlfriend.
Season 2[edit]
Nafessa Williams as Charlotte Piel, a new first-year resident in the ER who was formerly a popular teenaged actress.
Kathleen Rose Perkins as Dr. Amanda Nolan, a psychiatrist at the hospital.
Season 3[edit]
Tyler Perez as Diego Avila, son of a hospital board member and a first-year resident. He drives the staff and patients crazy by filming them to make a documentary about the Angels ER.

Outline
by Rachel Cusk
The truth is that I struggled to pick my favorite book or writing from Rachel Cusk. All three novels in her
Outline series
are fantastic, and I’ve reread each of them first with passion and then again with a studious eye. For me there is the lonely, yet pragmatic, keen observational protagonist that appeals to me deeply. But also, a woman traveling, forever on the receiving end of looping conversation with strangers. I find her writing extremely romantic. What I’d most like to include on this list, is a piece of her writing from the
New York Times Magazine
: "Making House: Notes on Domesticity." It is a perfect piece of writing about the struggle of making a home and living it in comfortably. “Like the body itself, a home is something both looked at and lived in, a duality that in neither case I have managed to reconcile. I retain the belief that other people’s homes are real where mine is a fabrication, just as I imagine others to live inner lives less flawed than my own.
 ”
Fire Sermon
by Jamie Quatro
Jamie Quatro’s novel about devotion, longing, lust and god was impossible to put down. I read it in one giant gulp. While male writers are given ample opportunity to write about these ideas, it still feels rare and thrilling when women do.
 Sing, Unburied, Sing
by Jesmyn Ward
Everything Jesmyn Ward has written has haunted me afterward. Unblinking, brutal, heartbreaking stories. Her writing feels both modern and like something from a masterpiece that every student is meant to read in high school or college.
The Topeka School
by Ben Lerner
I love a hook, a melody that on first listen gives you goosebumps, or makes your stomach lurch up to your throat. Sometimes I hear one and I think, “that is a smash,” and then settle in to envy that I didn’t write the song myself. That was the feeling I had reading
I couldn’t help but compare our memoir because both books center adolescence and high school at their core. While Ben writes dazzlingly about masculinity and violence and the bubbling rage of teenage boys, I thought about the way we wrote about the paralysis and fear of being a queer girl in that same kind of world. While his boys turn their rage outward, we focused our violence inward, on the most tender parts of ourselves. Ben’s writing opens a door to understanding something about my own experience of those adolescent years. He sheds light on the parents and teachers whose complicated lives indelibly haunt our own, in ways we don’t realize until we become adults. It seems much of our public conversation revolves around what to do about and with men,
The Topeka School is a thrilling response. All of that to say, I think Ben’s book is a smash.
JUNE 3, 2009 1. The Flamethrowers by Rachel KushnerI was so captivated there was no choice but to finish it entirely in one long stretch of days. Passages so beautiful that I found myself re-reading them over and over again in amazement. I think it was in the Harpers Magazine review that they called it feminist and sexy. It’s true. An entirely fresh and inspiring heroine. 2. Light Years by James SalterSo many tears; on the tarmac, on the subway, tucked in my bus bunk. I will cherish this book forever. It is 40 years old and that made the discovery so much more powerful. It’s also a good reminder that I am sentimental and a romantic no matter how hard I try to resist those urges. I’ll cozy up with my tears any day, you can’t shame me! 3. Tenth of December by George SaundersThere aren’t very many writers with a body of work I love so completely.  But, I think this is my absolute favourite. I have total admiration/awe for a mind this strange and wonderful

As mean as this ask may come across, can you think of notable examples where the alternates/understudies/standbys/emergency covers were just better than the principals? I know the low-hanging fruit would be to say like “whoever understudied Thiago/Barbour(sorry for mentioning)/Uwe/KKA/etc.” So, if you could think some examples where the principal was still pretty decent/good, but where an understudy was AMAZING, that would be interesting to hear from you. Hope I made it clear. Thank you Celina!
Aw gee, but the low-hanging fruit is so... low-hanging. Easy. But fine, lemme think of a few examples...
Mary D'arcy - Probably a bit too easy since I'm not a big fan of Dale Kristien's Christine, but I acknowledge that Kristien has a great voice and incredible stamina for doing all 8 shows a week after Mary D'arcy left. That being said, I prefer Mary D'arcy's smoother voice and sweeter Christine to Kristien's vibrato-heavy voice and much stiffer acting.
Ian Jon Bourg - Bourg is a bit funky because he's been understudy in multiple productions but also the principal in other places. And in some cases the people he was understudying were just as good as him. But in other cases, like the Las Vegas production, I preferred his take to others such as Anthony Crivello.
Alison Kelly - Alison Kelly was the alternate to Colby Thomas's Christine in the original Hamburg production, and while Thomas was... fine, Alison Kelly was wonderful and smart and strong.
Olivia Safe - Same as Alison Kelly above, except that Olivia Safe was the understudy, and her Christine was sweet and innocent and wonderfully mischievous.
Susan Owen - Oh Susan Owen, understudy (and occasionally alternate) extraordinaire. She was understudy so much and so long that it really varies as to whether I like her better than the principal or alternate, because it would change a lot. But in general, I loved her so much more than, say, Sandra Joseph, or Rebecca Pitcher, or Marni Raab, and so on...
Julie Hanson - Hanson's another who's been around a couple of productions and stuff, but mostly I know her as the alternate around 2003-2005 to Sandra Joseph. And I like Sandra Joseph's Christine, she was great, but I loved Julie Hanson, who was so childish and so traumatized. Incidentally, Susan Owen was the understudy at the time, and Hanson's the only exception to me preferring Susan Owen; Hanson and Owen are equal for me.
Scott Davies - Scott Davies, standby extraordinaire. Again, it's really going to depend on the principal Phantom, he's seen a lot of them come and go, but in general, I preferred Davies to Ramin Karimloo, to David Shannon, to Marcus Lovett, to Geronimo Rauch, to Ben Forster, to Ben Lewis... many of whom were good, even great! But Scott Davies just had that something.
Jeremy Stolle - Same as Scott Davies really, I just preferred his take over Peter Joback, or Norm Lewis, or Ben Crawford... many of whom were quite good too! But I love Stolle.
Elizabeth Welch - Same as a lot of the super-understudies or super-standbys above, but I loved her operatic voice and sympathetic acting and interpretation, and often preferred over the many, many alternates and principals that came by, even though some were quite good (people like Trista Moldovan, Marni Raab, Sara Jean Ford, Sierra Boggess, etc.).
Andrey Shkoldychenko - He was the understudy in the Moscow production and I definitely preferred him over Ivan Ozhogin (kind of boring) and Dmitri Ermak (very good but sometimes a little too suave and sensual); I felt that Andrey Shkoldychenko had the right mix of elegance, grit, and vulnerability.
Danny Whitehead - I needed at least one Raoul on this list. Anyway, he was an understudy to Jeremy Taylor's Raoul, who was... okay, I guess. But Danny Whitehead was good, so passionate and strong, and I was absolutely stoked that he got the principal position the next year. And then COVID-19 happened...
Corinne Cowling - Another whose run got cut short by COVID-19. Corinne Cowling is interesting because while the principal, Kelly Mathieson, is one of my favorites, the alternate, Bridget Costello, was fine but not memorable, and so I preferred Cowling's take. I don't think she had many performances, but the ones she did have showed a really great performance already. I hope she can come back to the role someday.

Day 7. Monday Sept 11, Post I of II: Washington DC. OMG, I have long wanted to visit DC, and now I know why. This place is a goldmine of landmarks and history.
I start off the day buying a hop on hop off bus tour ticket and walking downtown to the nearest stop. As I wait for the bus, I realise that I am across the street from the Ford Theater where Lincoln was assassinated and in front of the Peterson House where he was taken for treatment but unfortunately died.
Looking to cheer up I hop on the bus which has justcartived. Simply speaking, Washington DC is aligned north to south with the Potomac River running along the west side and the National Mall running east from the river for about two miles, parallel to Constitution Ave.
At the far west end of the National Mall, overlooking the river and the Arlington Memorial Bridge stands the Lincoln Memorial. If you go west and cross the river, you are in Virginia and at Arlington Cemetery. This 269-acre national site holds over 400,000 graves, including JFK and Jackie Onassis and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I also happened to trip over Robert McNamara's tomb stone.
Meanwhile, back in DC, if you look east from.the Lincoln Memorial down the National Mall, you see in sequence the Reflecting Pool, the WWII Memorial, the Washington Monument and far in the distance the US Capital. About one third if the way down, immediately to the left (north) of the Washington Momument, sits the White House.
Washington DC is chock full of significant historical buildings. Rather than trying g to recreate my route, let me just run down what I saw and remember:
Fords Theater
The White House
The Willard Hotel, located near the Whitehouse, it was a prime location for dignitaries. It is rumored that those wishing to petition their causes would often wait in the lobby, hoping to bump into their intended targets, thus begat the name lobbyists.
The FBI building where J Edgar Hoover ruled from 1935 to 1972.
The US Capital
US Treasury
Library of Congress
The original US Post Office, now a Waldorf Astoria Hotel
Numerous Smithsonian Museums, all free
L'Enfant Plaza
The International Spy Museum
Washington Monument
The Holocaust Memorial
Jefferson Memorial
FDR and MLK Memorials
Lincoln Memorial
Albert Einstein Memorial
Arlington Cemetery
WWII Memorial
The National History Museum
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing where paper mo ey is printed (as opposed to the mint which strikes coins).
There was more, but for now, that's all I can remember, and you get the picture.
The highlight of the day, however, turned out to be my trip to The Capital. Following a structured tour where I saw the inside of the rotundra and the original meeting rooms for the House and the Senate, I was permitted as a visitor to the US to witness a vote in the Senate. They were not actually sitting in session, so I sat there for an hour while the senators dropped by to vote. I didn't know many of them, among those I did see and recognize were:
Cory Booker
Susan Collins
John Cornyn
Ted Cruz
Dianne Feinstein
Chuck Grassley
Amy Klobuchar
Lisa Murkowski
Mitt Romney
Marco Rubio
Bernie Sanders
Chuck Schumer
Kirsten Sinema
Tommy Tuberville
Elizabeth Warren
It was quite the day. I walked back to my hotel in the Union Market area through the gentrifying areas to the north and east of the historic downtown core area I'd been prowling. DC's population is currently circa 720,000, but it is clearly growing and expanding.

All You Need to Know About Matchups!
CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE WAITLIST
Hi y'all!
This account is solely for matchups for several different fandoms. That means requests for imagines, oneshots, headcanons, etc. will NOT be taken.
Here are some basic things to know about requesting a matchup!
Unless otherwise specified for a certain fandom, a request yields one romantic pairing AND one friendship pairing as well as information on why I think you work well with the individuals I choose. Of course, if you only wish to receive either just the romantic matchup or just the friendship matchup, just let me know!
You can request matchups for several different fandoms at once! For each fandom you request, I will match you up with one romantic partner and one friend unless you request differently.
You can ask to exclude any character(s)!
Where can I request a matchup?
Requests can be made in the MATCHUP REQUESTS/ASK ME ANYTHING tab.
What do I need to include in my request?
Required
Fandom(s)
Your gender and/or pronouns
Your sexual orientation and/or preferences
Description of personality
Optional (but definitely helps me out!)
Description of appearance
Hobbies
Personality alignment (Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, Hogwarts House, etc.)
What you would look for in a partner and/or friend
Any other information you think would be helpful – the more you provide, the more I can work with!
Now with that out of the way, onto the fandoms!
Listed directly below is a shortlist of all the fandoms I take requests for as well as some extra information as needed.
Disclaimers
If a title is in italics, it means that while I feel comfortable providing matchups for this show, I have not watched every season. If a character drastically changes after a certain point, I may not be aware. The last season I watched of these shows will be included in parentheses.
All movies/shows based on novels will most likely focus on the on-screen adaptations of characters.
