“Idk man, this feels like a defining moment for US culture.
“All of you, clinging frivolously to your violent, ridiculous entertainment as you tax dollars fund the massacre of the defenseless
“more like land of the coward, home of the mentally enslaved”
Go team, go America 🩸🇺🇸

Just Breathe // Joe Burrow x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: LSU Joe! Shows up at your dorm room door to comfort you
Word Count: 670
Warnings: academic burnout (please take care of yourself and don’t read this if it triggers you,  no man is worth your mental health!), fluff Joe!, unedited work
-----------------------------
College had never been for you, yet you still strived for high achievement. It was the second semester, the work had begun to feel pointless and never-ending. Pulling all-nighters just to finish assignments on time wasn’t giving you the adrenaline rush it used to.
Tonight, you lay in your bed, lights off, watching the campus outside your dorm window. Your phone buzzed beside you, the screen lighting up your entire room. You silenced the call, Joe was relentless and you just wanted to be alone. You got another call, silencing it again, this time a voicemail popping up.
“Hey, I just wanted to see how you’re doing. Maybe if you wanted me to come over? We could have a movie night.”
You teared up, wiping your nose on the balled up tissue in your hand. You flipped on your side, staring at the blank wall across from you, imagining shapes. There was no sleep coming now, you didn’t deserve Joe, he was most definitely too good for you and now that’s all you would think about.
An hour later, your phone buzzed again, Joe was ringing you. This was the 10th time today, you had gone radio silent, the energy not being in you anymore.
“Y/N?” Joe spoke your name in surprise and desperation, you had finally answered.
“What Joe?” it came off ruder than you meant, startling yourself.
“I just wanna make sure you’re okay.”
“I’m fine Joe,” your voice was monotone.
“I know you, you’re not fine,”
“Ok,” a lump grew in your throat, no other words being able to come out. You gulped hard, tears streaming again.
“Can I come over,”
“Mhm,” you were trying not to sob, holding your breath in hope.
“Okay, I’m almost there,” You knew Joe would already be around the corner.
Your suitemate let him in, a gentle knock coming to your room door. You didn’t answer, staying still in bed. Joe entered the room, and you held your breath, trying not to break down. You looked at him, the darkness making it hard to read his expressions. He walked carefully, setting his backpack on your floor. He sat on the bed, his hand reaching out to touch your arm. His touch sent you sobbing.
“Oh,” Joe said with concern, he latched onto you, holding your shaky body steady. His arms encapsulated you, bringing warmth to your body again.
“What’s wrong,” he was swaying the two of you.
“I’m pathetic,” you cried out, Joe smoothed your hair his large hands brushing over your face. You wiped your nose on the tissue, tossing it onto the floor.
“What in the world are you talking about?” His hand wiped your tears away.
“Your hands are so soft,” your voice was frail and whispered. You sobbed harder, the feeling of the wind being knocked out of you.
“What?” he chuckled, stopping himself from laughing too hard.
“I don’t know, I’m just so tired, I’m so tired,” you repeated over and over through sobs and sniffles.
“Okay, come on and breathe, let's just breathe for a second,” he sat you up, making you look him in the eyes. He wiped your tears away again, taking a deep breath himself, hinting for you to do the same. You followed, your shaky breaths stabilizing themselves, and you came back down. Joe’s eyes watching you intently.
“Joe, I’m sorry I’m just so tired,” you let your hand play with his in his lap.
He nodded standing and digging through his backpack for his laptop. He opened it typed away and set it on the dresser across from your bed. You watched as Star Wars began playing, Joe coming back into bed, pulling you back to lay on his chest.
“Just go to bed, it’s all going to be okay,” he pulled the covers over the two of you, his hand laying itself on your cheek.
“Thank you,” you mumbled, listening to Joe’s steady breathing in comparison to yours. Joe hummed in response. Safety fell over you, your eyes finally growing heavy.
-----------------------------
I have such a love/hate relationship with college! I am so tired and burnout but I just have to keep going...
Anyways I hope everyone enjoys this little short of fluff Joe<333
