I have never been to England or Amsterdam, but it strikes me as ridiculous how many times Van Helsing is making the journey between them, especially at a time with no cars. I'm assuming you have some knowledge of the area, would you say that's correct? It feels like he's making the trip once a day at this point
oh christ, yeah. it always struck me like, even by TODAY'S travelling times, like....how? i can't really speak for travel to/through the netherlands but i can for the uk and i'm utterly obsessed with the concept of a modern van helsing stuck in gridlock on the M25
I've never made the trip to amsterdam (looking to correct this in the future asap) but like.......yeah, with 19th century speeds? that’s a day of travel, i’m sure. our man travelling through hyperspace

Archie was apart from his family for two years. He remained in Kharkiv when his family fled the war two years ago. I picked the little fella up from South Mimms Station and took him to Wiltshire. He was delighted, the family were delighted. It was quite an emotional reunion.

The M25
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher officially opened the M25 on 29 October 1986. The opening ceremony took place in the section between J22 and J23 (London Colney and South Mimms). The first breakdown occurred on the same day.

“TOMMY GUN SHOOT AT SIGHT' HUNT,” London Evening Standard. February 27, 1942. Page 1. --- Private Moore Interviewed ---- Evening Standard Reporter BOGNOR REGIS, Friday. “Shoot on sight" was the order given to more than 3000 soldiers, Home Guards, police and special constables in the great hunt for the empty- house gunman who yesterday shot dead a police sergeant and seriously injured a special constable.
The hunters are armed with Tommy guns, rifles and pistols, and they are patrolling West Sussex in Bren gun carriers, in lorries, on motor-bicycles and on foot. Even airplanes are being used to direct to-days search among the downs and the glades. Their instructions were: "You are looking for a dangerous man. Take no chances, bring him in dead or alive."
A special squad of Canadian. soldiers were detailed to search every empty house within 15 miles of here.
Buses, private cars, and even Army vehicles were stopped and examined.
To-day the police issued a new description of a man they thought might be able to help them -  Private J. W. Moore, 20, of the Canadian Highland Light Infantry.
Later it was reported that Private Moore had been found. He was seen at Ridge Hill, South Mimms, by Police-sergeant W. Potter. He went with the police to Barnet police station.
Moore was walking on the main London to St. Albans road at 1 pm when he was seen by Sergeant Potter.
Scotland Yard Flying Squad Joined in the hunt for the killer and made a systematic search of the West End and other London districts.
It’s believed that he may have caught a train from Bognor to London.
The gunman who shot Police-sergeant William Avis, 47, and wounded Mr F. J. Fuller, of Barrack-lane Altwick, is believed to have been living in the empty house where the shooting occurred for some days

Look closely. Foundations are not appealing, or attractive. But they are absolutely essential for whatever endeavour you plan to undertake. Don't just focus on what you're building. Four little-known love affairs
1. Despite thousands passing through its epicentre each day, little has been written of the doomed affair between the M25 motorway and the Great North Road, and its evanescent, poisonous flowering at South Mimms. Yet the clues are there for those who care to look for them. Keen observers of the occult may peruse the twisted knot of ley lines in the shape of an upturned middle finger surrounding the junction at which the roads first met. Once there, brave travellers can enter Britain's most romantically fraught service station. In the golden age of their love, South Mimms was a garden of delights; it is said that the carbonaceous roses cut from its potted displays would bloom eternally. These days one must be constantly on the lookout for the rumble of scraping tarmac and asphalt tentacles just beyond the edge of sight, as the two roads battle listlessly for custody of the seating area and shopping precinct.
2. The moons of the solar system are a flirtatious bunch: the more so since their relationships are necessarily long-distance owing to a strict injunction from the Sun that all must remain on their orbits. Perhaps the longest dalliance between moons is that between Pluto's moon, Charon, and the Earth's moon. Earth's moon has been mooning over Charon for at least half a million years. Charon, in turn, graffitied the surface of Pluto with a huge heart to show its devotion. Since Pluto's demotion from planet status, both Pluto and Charon have been in a rebellious mood and they are believed to be plotting a conjugal visit within the next few years.
3. The Voynich Manuscript is haunted by a number of conspiratorial ghosts, and likewise so is Doctor John Dee's black scrying mirror. Although the two sets of ghosts have never met, both have been able to wander far enough from their homes to make use of the internet, the former from a library office at Yale and the latter from the basement of the British Museum. Both have been active on conspiracy theory forums. It can be hard to tease out a ghost's expressions of affection; nevertheless, the sheer volume of correspondence that has passed between them suggests that a number of complex relationships have formed. The language of their letters is slippery and sibilant; they make frequent references to the sea, which holds a special place in the hearts of amorous ghosts due to its abundance of gently glowing fishspirits. Interestingly, they correspond only in forums that relate to conspiracies that they are not involved in.
4. One of the reasons that fried breakfasts are so popular is the hidden passion that simmers beneath their serenely greasy surfaces. Many people incorrectly believe that only meat has the capacity for love, and assume that the great culinary romance of our days must be between bacon and sausages. Bacon and sausages are in fact only friends, although they are not afraid to hug. Instead, it is the decades-long flirtation between bacon and eggs that gives the fried breakfast its lusty tang. Do be careful before preparing a fried breakfast containing black pudding, however: it is insanely jealous and will often start fights with the other foodstuffs.
