Jimmy Uso x black! afab OC
word count: 1410
Summary: Jimmy has a late night hair appointment.
Tags: sexy time, oral (m receiving), creampie
Warnings: some cursing, unprotected sex
Cool air breezed through the open windows of the small beauty salon. Leilani sat absentmindedly in her styling chair as she watched the sun set further over the Pensacola skyline. It had been a long day and she was tired, but it wasn’t quite time for her to call it a day.
If her client didn’t show soon, she feared she might slip into a nap right there.
“Girl what you still doing here?” The voice of the shop owner, Megan emerging from the storage room pulled Leilani from her daze.
“Oh I got a late client. I can close up, you don’t have to wait around,” she said, popping her gum.
She had been working in Megan’s shop for a little over a year and she enjoyed it. The owner was a few years older than her and a pretty decent mentor for Leilani who was fresh out of cosmetology school.
They’d grown a good relationship in the time and she trusted Leilani with the shop. “Who’s your client?” she asked, rummaging through her purse for the keys.
“The wrestler dude, Jimmy. You know he always slides through here before he heads out for his shows or whatever,” Leilani tried to keep her response reasonable, but she had a secret.
She had been crushing on the Samoan wrestler ever since he started coming to her to get his hair braided. They flirted often, but things never really went anywhere.
“Hm, well you be safe in here,” Megan said, gathering her things before wishing Leilani a goodnight.
About ten minutes later, Jimmy texted her to buzz him in. The tall Samoan man strolled in, his long hair tucked under a Niutat hat. “Sup, Lei Lei,” he geeeted making himself comfortable in her styling chair.
“Hey Jimmy,” she said with a smile, setting up her products on her vanity. “Let’s see what’s going on with this hair chile..”
She snatched his hat off, placing it on her own head with a giggle before running her fingers through his thick locks. His hair felt healthy and silky at the roots, but she felt a little bit of dryness and breakage on his ends where his hair was dyed.
“Jimmy, you wanna fight or something?” she asked, spinning him around to face her.
He raised an eyebrow, “Now what I do?”
“I told you to be washing and conditioning your hair between appointments. ”
“But, I like it better when you wash my hair,” he whined with a hint of flirtation. Leilani’s eyes flickered down to where he licked his lips.
She playfully rolled her eyes to prevent a blush from creeping on her cheeks. “Getcho ass over to the sink then..” she ordered, swatting him on the ass with a comb as he got up.
The water was set to the perfect temperature as she ran the faucet over his hair. A quiet moan slipped out of him as she dripped shampoo onto his head and massaged her manicured fingers into his scalp.
Leilani thought it was so sexy how his body relaxed completely in the chair and his eyes fluttered shut in comfort.
It’s always difficult to get the back of scalp from the standing angle so Leilani straddled Jimmy’s hips, sitting directly in the man’s lap as she continued to scrub his scalp.
“See LeiLei, this is why i like when you do it,” he mumbled, creeping an eye open and getting an eyeful of her chest. “That feels so good,” he practically moaned.
Looking down at the man, he looked incredibly cute and sexy laid back in the chair. Leilani couldn’t help herself, she placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. She was about to place another on the other side when his eyes shot open and he turned his head ever so slightly to catch her lips with his own.
His hands found their way around her waist to steady her as they kissed intimately while she scrubbed his scalp. Leilani could feel his dick beginning to harden beneath her, and grinded back on it, letting a moan escape from her own lips.
“Shiii, it’s like that?” he said, once they pulled apart. Trailing his hands from her waist to grope her chest as they continued to dry hump. His hard body felt good pressed against hers. Leilani bit her bottom lip, nodding her head as his erection grazed her legging covered clit. “Show me what else them hands do,”
Leilani chuckled to herself, rinsing the shampoo from his hair and her hands before sliding to the floor on her knees. Her slippery fingers fumbled with the button on his jeans until they finally popped open. Jimmy shifted his hips up, helping her pull them down with his underwear.
“I’ve been wanting this for so long,” she moaned, eyes widening as his six inches sprang free, ready for attention.
Tongue out, Leilani licked around his tip, swirling her tongue around it making Jimmy’s hips jerk forward. His eyes fluttered shut again, and his hands tangled into her hair. “Shiit, Lei” he moaned. “Do that again for me,”
She obliged, swirling her tongue again before taking the whole head into her mouth and sucking hard. She expertly took him inch by inch until his whole dick was down her throat. She bobbed her head up and down while the man moaned and writhed beneath her, his hips grinding in slow circles as he fucked gently into her mouth.
“Lei you feel so good, I’m bout to bust,” he grunted, his grip on her tightening. She tried to pull back, but he held on tight as his hips stilled and he exploded on her tongue.
She swallowed it like a pro, barely taking a pause before she suckled on his tip. The overstimulation got to him and he had to push her head away to catch his breath. Leilani moaned as she sat back on her knees.
“Damn girl,” he panted, laying slack in the chair. While he recovered, Leilani pushed her leggings down her waist, kicking them off and to the side. She enthusiastically climbed back onto his lap, stroking him back to hardness as she kissed him.
She guided his tip to her wet and waiting pussy before sliding down on him. An embarrassingly loud moan slipped from her mouth at the way Jimmy filled her up so perfectly when she sank all the way down on him.
“Shit pretty girl, ride that dick,” he growled, his eyes rolling into his head as he squeezed her ass cheeks and guided her up and down his pole. Her hands were in his wet hair, needing something to hold onto as he bucked up into her.
He started to circle her right nipple with his tongue, leaving bites occasionally and brushing his thumb along the inside of her thigh.
Her hips stuttered with her a rhythm as shuddering moans racked Leilani’s body.
He was panting too, nothing but fire and heat burning in his eyes as she took every single inch of him. The stretch of him felt so deliciously good, finally satiating the ache in her core.
Jimmy’s grip on her waist was almost painfully tight as she fucked herself on his dick, his plush lips falling open slightly with each rock of her hips. He groaned out praises of her name, “Goddamn Lei, your pussy gripping me soo good,”
His sexy voice directly in her ear was the beginning of the end for Leilani. She cried his name out again as he drove his cock up again, slamming straight into that spot with precision, and then she was shouting hoarsely as her orgasm suddenly surged up over her. Her skin was on fire as it awoke every single nerve in her body.
Her juices gushed over his dick, sending him over the edge as well. Jimmy drove into Leilani once..twice.. more, and then he was moaning brokenly against her throat where he'd pressed his face against her neck.
Both of them struggled to catch their breaths as Leilani slumped against him, gripping the sink behind his head for balance.
After a few minutes, Jimmy helped her get herself together, redressing before pulling her back into his lap.
“So uh, you think you can keep your hands to yourself long enough to actually braid my hair this time?” he asked, flashing that bright and jokey smile.
Leilani rolled her eyes, sucking her teeth. “Getcho ass over here boy”

There Is Quiet | Kix and Starlight
Tumblr media
UPDATE: This has been sitting in my drafts for over a year. I want to finish it.
This is before Starlight has their daughter (in the earliest weeks of pregnancy, post Ner Adika) after Kix has their wedding rings (spoilers.. they got married!) If you don't particularly enjoy reading things with a pregnancy theme in them, I recommend you skip this!
If this gets enough attention and the other parts are wanted, I'll do Rex and Wolffe to close this nicely. (Especially since we saw Wolffe in s3 of TBB!)
@snippy-tano / @social-mockingbird
***
He's different. You vividly remember the night Kix had come rushing across the street from 79's into your little hair salon, panic evident in those bright eyes as he hurriedly explained what he'd just encountered in the refresher with his brother, Fives.
Kix is never quite the same after that night. He knows too much. He always wears this expression when he's overburdened. It's almost like Kix has resorted to carrying the weight of his cross, unwilling to let anyone else bear it with him, for it is his to carry alone.
In this case, it is.
He leaves in a rush, all frantic and murmuring about how he needs to find Anakin Skywalker, leaving you with nothing but a kiss to the swell of your stomach and a promise to return before deployment.
You watch him go. Kix has always been good at coming home, so you have no worries about whether or not he'll return.
You should have.
Fives dies. Fives dies, and the world keeps turning, because there is no room for the galaxy to mourn the clones when their soul purpose is to be a means to an end. Why would you mourn a weapon when that weapon has outlived its purpose?
Fives dies, but his vode mourn him, and you're left with the aftermath when you catch your husband as he falls to his knees in surrender to his grief in the weeks that follow. He refuses to tell you what it is he knows - and maybe it's better to spare you, to keep you from all that pain and misery of the war - and instead uses the time to lose himself in you.
He always does. Your skin is stained with Kix's tears whether you like it or not. Your hips are branded by the bruises left behind from his fingerprints, and if you could let him consume you whole, you would.
Anything to give him the reprieve your husband is so clearly looking for.
"Kix," You breathe, hair fanned against the pillows as you allow yourself to be trapped in the cage of his body. Your fingertips ghost across the curve of his jaw as you peer up at him in the dimming sunlight of Coruscant's dusk. The impending darkness looms over the skyline. "Where are you?"
And you'll give him credit, Kix tries so hard to be in the present with you.
"Right here, Starlight." He murmurs, nuzzling the crook of your neck before settling himself at your side and resting his palm against your stomach. You're just over five months. It won't be long before you have to bring your little girl into the world, and you're desperately praying nearly every night that the war will be over by then so her father can be there to raise her, to love her. "Always right here."
You swallow the knot in your throat and nod. He says he's right there, but he's not. He's far away. Always far away.
Helpless to fight it, you hold him as he drifts off and you succumb to the tears blurring your eyes.
Your bed, stained with your tears and his tears alike, is a memorial to something you will never get to have again.
---
You see him one last time before Anaxes. Your husband returns to you in the golden hours of Coruscant's day. He's more somber then usual, reserved and quiet as he enters the apartment.
You know what it is. He's found the answer to whatever the burning question is that's haunted him since Fives died in that warehouse.
He's lost to you. He's lost to you, and the thing is.. You've never really had him.
"Kix."
"Not now, my light." You frown as Kix turns to peer at you over his shoulder from where he stands by the window. It may be the only instance in which you've seen those eyes so dark. "Please, not now."
You open your mouth to reply when your daughter gives a hard kick to your navel. Kix turns sharply at the sound of your sudden gasp, shaking fingertips spreading across your stomach as you press your palm deeper.
It always catches you off guard that she's so active.
"Kix," You hold your hand out. "Come here."
Something flickers back to life in his eyes as Kix approaches you with his hand outstretched. He slowly settles it onto your stomach, gasping as your daughter gives another hard kick in response.
"Oh," Kix whispers. Your grin widens as tears shine in your eyes. There he is. You've been wondering where he's been hiding for all these months, and you think your daughter may be just a little too intuitive. She's able to feel her father's despair even from the womb. That alone should speak volumes about Kix's spiral into darkness. "There's our girl."
He bends down low to whisper something to your daughter that you don't quite hear, but you bite your lip to staunch the flow of tears that threaten to fall again.
The moment is shattered by the beep of Kix's comm. It's Rex, as expected, and he's being called to Torrent's barracks for a briefing that will lead into their deployment to the next campaign.
Your heart sinks. You can't hide the disappointment in your face as Kix rises to his feet and cradles your face to bring his forehead to your own. It feels too final. Like it's the last time you'll ever do it.
This once, just this once, you wish you were a soldier trained to fight on the battlefield so you could be with him more. You would sacrifice all that's left of yourself to be able to be with Kix more. To help him, to spare him the pain, to be able to walk with him in the midst of his pain.
But then Kix may have never met you. Had you been bred into a soldier to be the hands of The Republic, you may not be where you are right now.
And you like where you are now.
"I love you, Kix'ika," You murmur against the seam of his lips. "Come home to us."
"I love you too." He nods. You can tell he's trying to convince himself that he will, inevitably, walk back through that door. You both know it's ending. "And I will."
It ends far too soon.
---
The last time anyone sees Kix is in the aftermath of Anaxes. One moment, he's there treating Echo's wounds and helping him recover from the effects of being a prisoner of war.
Torrent's departure several weeks later is what confirms Jesse's worst fear: His triplet is gone. He is the last one standing.
And now he has to return home to break the news to his brother's wife.
---
You give birth without Kix there. Your daughter's uncles are not able to be there to hold your hand, and the only comforts you have are their girlfriends. Dove and Phantom sit on either side of you and hold your hands while you weep.
Less then a week later, almost all the clones are dead or gone or traitors and you are unable to contact your friends. Your family.
All the girls are gone too.
It's just you. You and your little girl who looks exactly like you.
At the end of everything and everyone you have come to love since that boy - that beautiful, bright eyed boy - ran into your salon crumbles in an instant.
And you are left to pick up what remains, because you have to.
Kix would want you to do it for your daughter.
---
This is how it feels to be Kix, CT-6116, Chief Medical Officer of the 501st Legion. You are encased in a cold that settles deep into your bones and makes itself at home there. There is no escape. There is no hope.
You are cold, and you are alone, and you are helpless to stop the one thing that Fives had begged for your help to prevent. You dream about the Jedi. About the clones killing the Jedi, and about the aftermath. You dream about a world of fire and blood where everything burns and everyone must burn with it.
The world you wake up to is nothing like that.
When you wake, everyone and everything you have ever known is as it once was: From dust it came, and to dust it did return. The people who pull you from the wreckage of the ship are pirates who then transport you across the galaxy to sell you to a buyer: A buyer who looks a little too much like someone you'd once known. She's old. Most likely in her forties to fifties.
Your heart aches just looking at her. She's bright. Brighter then any sun, but tougher then any steel. You can tell she was raised during the rise of the Empire. She has to be tough to survive.
But that gentleness she hides beneath that steely aspect is what catches you.
When the pirates finally allow you to depart the ramp of their ship and fly away into the great unknown, the girl in front of you speaks up.
"You look exactly like you did in all your pictures," She whispers, removing her outer jacket to pull out a yellowed photo. It's you. You and Starlight, hidden in the back booth of Seventy Nines during your first date, with her head tipped back as she laughed at a joke you do not remember.
Your eyes slowly shift back to the woman. There are tears in her eyes, and you finally recognize why she looks so familiar.
"Hi Dad."

Loves Me Loves Me Not - three.

“You ask a lot of questions.” “Yeah, well, I’m just trying to get to know you.” “This is all for show. You don’t have to get to know me.” “It’s called being polite, you should try it sometime.”
AU fake-dating, bartenderry // Harry is a bartender and new in town. A joke with her friends turns into reality after too much tequila, but nothing goes according to plan.
And Harry really is a lot grumpier than she first imagined.

“You got some explaining to do, Little Miss Sneaky!”
It was a rare occasion for Arlo to be at the salon before her. In fact, Y/N couldn’t recall it ever happening before. He usually came stumbling in right as they were scheduled to open the doors, right before the first clients came in for their appointments.
But not that morning.
That morning her best friend was already there, waiting for her, pointing at her with an accusing finger as soon as she entered through the backdoors. “Why are you sneaking off to White Deer like a sly little minx to see the moody bartender?!”
She wasn't surprised to see her friend there before her though.
Actually, it was rather expected.
Her phone had been blowing up the previous night. There were several unanswered texts on her phone from him, demanding to know what she was up to and why she was looking for Harry. Y/N had seen his texts and purposely ignored them. Mostly to buy herself a little more time to explain how she was suddenly going out on a date with Harry.
And, also, because she had thrown her phone across the room after letting her finger slip to the small heart below Harry’s picture. Y/N refused to look at it again for the rest of the night.
Hanging out with Harry had not gone as well as she would’ve liked. Things were still awkward with him. She knew no more about him than she had before he invited her over.
Except, that wasn’t true. He had told her his last name, which, of course, sparked her curiosity and she had looked him up online as soon as she got home.
In hindsight, it had been a terrible idea, but as she sat in her little guest house and realized she had all the tools she needed to find out more about him - Y/N couldn’t stop herself. She found him on Facebook first, but there was not a lot of information about him unless you were his friend.
And she was not about to send him a friend request.
The only thing she could see was his profile picture. A picture of him dressed in a fancy black suit, his brown hair pushed back, jawline sharp, and skin glowing. He looked professional, smart even, a lot more styled and well-kept than she had seen him looking at the pub. There was even a faint smile across his lips. He still looked stern, but it was a smile. It was a completely different Harry compared to the grumpy bartender she had been trying to get to know.
It only made her curiosity grow and she quickly opened her Instagram hoping to find something more.
He didn’t come off as someone who would use Instagram, but after not learning anything new about him from his Facebook page she had to at least explore the possibility he could have an account.
And he did.
The first user that popped up had a profile picture of a man in an orange beanie, grinning from ear to ear. Y/N had had a moment of disappointment, feeling stupid for thinking that Harry would have Instagram, but at a second glance, she realized that the smiling man in the small picture was Harry.
She wasted no time before clicking the username and was even more surprised to discover that his profile wasn’t private. There were only a handful of pictures on his feed, most of them photos of the skyline in London and a guitar. But, of course, her eyes were immediately drawn to the latest photo he had posted.
A photo of him and a woman.
It hadn’t been the woman who had caught her attention though.
No.
It was the sparkling diamond ring on the woman’s left hand, on her fourth finger.
Or, okay, the woman did get her attention as well, because she was stunning. With her long dark hair, soft brown skin, pretty eyes and high cheekbones she was exactly the type of woman Y/N had envisioned Harry would go for.
The woman in the picture was covering her big grin with her hand, showing off the beautiful ring. Harry stood next to her kissing her temples, and there was a very prominent dimple on the side of his face. He couldn’t stop smiling, his eyes squeezed shut and crinkled.
Unfortunately, Y/N didn’t get the chance to explore who the woman was. Nor did she get the chance to analyze the warmth that radiated from Harry because her finger had slipped. She watched in horror as the small empty heart underneath the picture turned red, and then just threw the phone across the room, staying in denial over what she had done for the rest of the night.
It wasn’t until that morning that she found the courage to look at her phone again. When she unlocked it the picture of Harry and the mysterious woman was still on her screen, the red heart looking back at her tauntingly. Y/N shut it down quickly and instead she came face to face with the dozens of messages Arlo had sent her.
Which was why she was not surprised to see him at the salon, waiting for her to show up.
“Hmmm, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said, pressing her lips together to stop herself from making any sort of face that could expose her and her schemes to him.
“Oh, shut up,” Arlo huffed while rolling his eyes. “Last week you literally threw yourself to the ground to hide from him and now you’re suddenly going around asking for him? You’re up to something.”
“I don’t know,” Y/N continued as she turned her back to her friend and took off her jacket. A small sense of exhilaration ran through her as her plan was officially in action and it was the first time she’d know something Arlo wouldn’t. She’d have the upper hand for once if she played her cards right. “Sounds like rumors to me.”
“It’s not and you know it.”
“Who told you I was asking for him?”
“Ruby told Margot and then Margot told me,” he told her and sent an annoyed glare in her direction. “Because someone was not answering their bloody phone last night. So, spill!”
Y/N turned around to face him, crossing her arms over her chest. The exhilaration in her quickly fizzled out as Arlo looked at her with impatience written all over his face, nodding at her to just get on with it and tapping his foot against the floor. A small part of her wanted to come clean about her little scheme, it would be a lot easier, but she also knew Arlo wouldn’t be on board for any of it. The best thing to do if she wanted her plan to work was to just commit to it and not tell anyone about her deal with Harry.
“We’re going on a date,” Y/N confessed, trying to sound as confident and genuine as possible. Her heart pounded hard inside her chest as she tried to hold her chin up under his narrowing gaze. Just play your cards right, and it’ll be fine. It’s just a small little lie.
Arlo stayed quiet for a while, letting her sweat as his eyes burned into her skin, then his loud laugh boomed across the room.
Y/N gasped, somewhat offended by her friend’s response. “We are!”
“Oh really?” Arlo continued to laugh. “I find that hard to believe.”
“That’s so rude.”
“You haven’t been on a proper date with someone in forever!” he exclaimed. “And now you’re suddenly going on a date with the moody mysterious bartender who just came to town?” Y/N nodded and Arlo let out another deep laugh. “I’m sorry babe, I don’t believe it.”
“What else would I be talking to him about!?”
“I don’t know. My guess was that you were getting into drugs or some other shady shit.”
Y/N’s eyes widened.
“Oh my god, you’re an idiot,” she scoffed and threw her hands up in the air dramatically.
“What?” Arlo smirked and shrugged lightly. “He seems like a bloke who’d be into a line or two.”
“Well, you’re wrong,” she told him flatly as she rolled her eyes. Y/N then opened her bag to get her lunch box out and marched past her friend to put it in the small fridge.
“So you’re just gonna forget all about Prince Charming?” Arlo continued from behind her and judging by the mocking tone of his voice he was no closer to believing her story.
“I-” Y/N started and swallowed the lump that was starting to form in her throat. She had known convincing Arlo was going to be tough. He was right, it didn’t make much sense that she was suddenly going on a date with Harry. Ever since Harry had agreed to take her out on a date she had spent hours trying to think of good excuses to tell her friends, but of course, she couldn’t remember any of them now. “You don’t even like Reece. You should be happy about this.”
“You’re up to something, I know it.”
“I’m not.”
“Should I be worried?”
“No!” She turned around to face him again, doing her best to give him a stern face and a composed posture. “I'm going on a date with Harry.”
“Alright then,” Arlo nodded slowly and let his eyes scan over her features suspiciously. “If you say so.”
“Arlo-” Y/N began with a sigh but was interrupted by a loud bang as the employee's back door swung open.
“There you are!” Margot burst in, her curly hair wild and chest heaving as she panted as if she had just finished a long run. “You need to tell me everything!” And just like Arlo had done before, Margot pointed an accusing finger in Y/N’s direction.
Y/N fought back the urge to let out a heavy groan as her other friend joined in on questioning her about her seeing Harry. Was the idea of her going on a date with someone so unimaginable? Should she be offended?
At least Margot would be a lot easier to convince than Arlo. Margot would just want to know all the details to satisfy her need for gossip. Margot wouldn’t question her about whether it was true or not. Y/N just needed to remember the cover-up story she had spent the past few days figuring out.
Before she could say anything though, Arlo answered for her.
“She’s apparently going on a date with Harry,” he snorted.
“Y/N!” Margot gasped, her eyes wide and sparkling with excitement. “How did this happen!?”
“I met him on the trails while I was out on a walk with Pluto,” Y/N said. Margot looked like she was about to explode from all the excitement running through her body. That was the challenging thing when it came to convincing Margot, lying to her felt like a bigger betrayal.
Y/N felt bad.
With Arlo, who only cared about being right, it would be a triumph if she managed to convince him. With Margot it made her stomach feel rather uneasy, but it wasn’t a big lie nor a serious one. It was harmless. At least that’s what she tried to tell herself as she continued to tell them her story. “We started talking and he asked me if I wanted to grab dinner with him. I told him I needed to think about it and then went to the pub to tell him I wanted to. ”
And, well... that was almost true. Harry definitely hadn’t asked her, but they had met on the trails and they had agreed to go out. That should count for something, right? It wasn’t all lies.
“Oh my god,” Margot continued and quickly threw her things to the side, bouncing in her steps as she walked over to them. “Tell us more. Where are you going?”
“We’re um-” Y/N started but trailed off just as fast as she realized she had completely forgotten to decide on a place for them to have dinner. It wasn’t a huge problem in itself. There were only two restaurants in their town, besides the pub, so there weren’t a lot of options. She could easily just say one and that’d be it.
But the question startled her, because how could she forget to decide on a place to have her date with Harry? Her fake date with Harry. That should’ve been the first thing she decided on. Stupid. “I don’t know,” Y/N admitted instead.
“You don’t know where you’re going?” Arlo laughed. “Oh Y/N, you’re doing a shit job at convincing anyone you’re going on a date with Harry.”
Her heart skipped a beat hearing his words. While she had expected Arlo to be suspicious, she hadn’t expected him to call her out so bluntly on the scheme. Her mouth fell open to defend herself, again, but nothing came out.
“Oh hush,” Margot stepped in and shot Arlo an annoyed glance. “Stop being such a negative nancy, don’t ruin this!”
Y/N gave Margot a small smile and took a deep breath to get her head back on track. She could do it. It wasn’t like she had killed somebody. She was just going on a date, even if it was fake and she was paying her date to take her out. “Why don’t you just text him and ask him?” Margot suggested.
“I don’t have his number.”
Arlo snorted loudly.
“Arlo, stop being an arse,” Margot stepped in again.
“I forgot to ask him about it,” Y/N said with a small shrug, doing her best to come off as innocent as possible. “I just… I was just freaking out about the whole thing, so I forgot. You know me.”
“I’ll just text Ruby and get it for you, yeah?” Margot offered, already pulling her phone out to text her girlfriend. “I know she has a WhatsApp group with everyone who works at White Deer. I’m sure she has his number.”
“Thank you Mar,” Y/N nodded and shot Arlo another glance to see if he was buying her story. He still didn’t look fully convinced as he scanned her features again and Y/N took another deep breath. “You were right by the way. That night at White Deer a couple of weeks ago, when I got way too drunk and you came up to the bar,” she paused to give him a chance to remember the occasion she was talking about.
Arlo nodded slowly.
“I was flirting with him. That’s why I hid behind the counter at the coffee shop. I was embarrassed. But then we met on the trails and- I don’t know. He asked me out and I just thought that I should give it a chance. He seems... nice.”
“I wouldn’t exactly describe him as nice,” Arlo chuckled. He gave her another look-over and Y/N straightened her posture once more, holding her breath as she waited for her friend to say something else. “As long as you’re not getting yourself into any trouble I’m all for it.”
“I’m not.”
“Alright then,” he shrugged. “I’ll take you crushing on the mysterious bartender over that twat Reece any day.”
“This is so exciting!” Margot said, clapping her hands together. “You have to tell us everything about him afterward!”
An hour later Margot forwarded Harry’s number to her after getting it from Ruby, and despite them urging her to text him immediately, Y/N couldn’t bring herself to do it.
The image of the red heart beneath his Instagram picture flashed before her as she stared at the digits in front of her. Little Y/N screamed at her about how much of a stalker she was coming across as, how he would think she was a psycho for first stalking him online and then texting him out of the blue. Especially since he hadn’t even given her his number himself. Could he report her to the police for stalking? It didn’t feel like a farfetched outcome if she continued her weird behaviour.
Later Arlo and Margot went out for lunch together, leaving her alone at the salon for the first time that day, and Y/N knew she had to text Harry while she was alone with no eyes on her. She wouldn’t be able to have a conversation with him without another pair of eyes looming over her shoulder trying to see what was being said.
And if she didn’t text him Margot and Arlo wouldn’t ever stop harassing her about it.
The only other option she had if she didn’t text him was to go over to White Deer and ask him in person. Which was something she didn’t want to do the day after accidentally liking his photo. It was possible he would find her behaviour of constantly popping up to bother him more psychotic than just texting him, and then reporting her to the police.
So with that in mind, she sent him a message.
Hey, we’re still on for dinner on Thursday right?
Simple. Non-creepy. Good. Hopefully, he wouldn’t cancel on her.
She waited for a reply, picking at her salad in front of her, gnawing more on her bottom lip than her food.
It didn’t take long before her phone dinged with a reply.
Harry Styles 12:23 pm Y/N?
Her cheeks turned hot as soon as she read his reply. Of course, he didn’t have her number, she should’ve let him know it was from her. As she typed another text to him she had to fight the impulse to slam her head against the table in frustration.
Yeah. Sorry.
As soon as she sent her reply another impulse kicked in and she quickly typed another text, hoping to maybe make him laugh. Although knowing him, it was very unlikely her attempt at a joke would even earn her a chuckle from him.
Or are you going on a date with someone else on Thursday?
It didn’t take long for him to respond again.
Harry Styles 12:25 pm   I thought it wasn’t a date.
Y/N rolled her eyes then, even though he couldn’t see her, and quickly wrote back.
You know what I mean.
That time he didn’t reply right away. Y/N sat waiting, her belly turning over as she worried Harry was trying to think of a way to back out on their deal, convinced she had overstepped by stalking him.
“Ugh, I shouldn’t have texted him,” she mumbled to herself and put her phone down on the table to finish her lunch.
But just as she was about to rinse out her lunch box a couple of minutes later her phone vibrated against the wooden table. She quickly dropped the box into the sink and ran back to read his reply.
Harry Styles 12:48 PM   Yes. We are.
Okay, good. Y/N breathed out a small sigh of relief; she hadn’t scared him off. Yet.
Now all she had to do was decide on a place to meet him for their date, and then she would be good to go.
She could do that.
Her plan was going to work.
It had to.
✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄
When Thursday finally came around she was in shambles. Y/N had hoped by having her date with Harry fall on her favorite day of the week would help. Unfortunately, the glorious day of Thor didn’t make her feel better about what she was about to do. Not even a little bit. The days leading up to ‘the biggest event of the year as her friends called it, were horrific.
Not only had she been quizzed about him every single day by her friends, but the voice inside her head telling her the plan was bonkers had gotten louder. She tried to ignore it and tried to focus on how to make her date with Harry go as smoothly as possible.
Her notebook was full of scribbles of questions she could ask him to avoid that heavy silence that often came with the grumpy man. The date needed to look real. It needed to look like they were having a good time; like they both wanted to be there. Her first attempt to get to know him had been a disaster. The date couldn’t be. They wouldn’t be alone this time. People were going to see them, people needed to see them and spread the word.
It had to look real.
It was the only thing she could think about for the rest of the week leading up to the date. She was on the brink of driving herself insane, overthinking what questions to ask him and how to make sure nothing seemed off.
So when Thursday finally came Y/N was exhausted. Her body felt weak due to the lack of sleep from the night before. She came into work with her t-shirt inside out. Naturally, Arlo was the one to call her out on it and she played it off as just being nervous about her date.
Which was not even a lie.
She was nervous.
Margot offered to fix her nails and make-up for her and Y/N let her. She had packed three different outfits that her friends made her try on and model for them. Arlo ran down to the supermarket and got her a Red Bull to wake her up, while Margot did her best to hide the dark circles under her eyes with a heavy layer of concealer.
Before she knew it was seven o’clock and she was off to meet Harry.
He had let her decide on the restaurant since he didn’t have much knowledge of their town other than White Deer.
Y/N arrived at the restaurant before him, clueless about whether to wait for him outside or go inside. The thin top she was wearing did nothing to protect her from the chilly breeze that blew around her, yet she decided to wait outside. There was still a chance he wouldn’t show up and she refused to sit alone at the table, just waiting while people gawked at her with their pitiful stares.
Margot and Arlo had convinced her to leave her jacket at the salon, claiming she couldn’t show up in an old ruffled denim jacket on a first date.
“Also, you cannot wear double denim!” Margot had scolded her. “The colors are not matching.”
She cursed both her friends for convincing her to leave it behind. But she had been too tired to put up a fight and they continued their argument by saying “the restaurant is only down the road, you’ll be outside for like a minute and you need to look hot.”
Unfortunately, Y/N felt far from hot as she stood outside and waited for her date to show up. Her fake date. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying her best to keep warm.
A middle-aged couple walked past her, hand in hand, giving her a strange look. Probably wondering why she stood outside like a fool. Y/N gave them a small smile.
What if he never showed up? That would be humiliating.
Just as she was about to pull out her phone and check the time, or see if he had texted her to let her know he was canceling, she spotted a tall figure slowly making their way towards the restaurant. Relief washed over her as she recognized the tousled brown hair.
As he came closer it was almost like someone had pushed a button, because she instantly felt more awake than she had done all day. Every little cell inside her body awoke. Instinctively she reached up to push a strand of her hair behind her ear and tried to flatten it to her head.
Harry walked towards her at a painfully slow pace, dressed in a pair of brown velvet trousers and a matching jacket, once again taking her by surprise with his choice of attire. It was so different from what he wore behind the bar at White Deer. It gave him a personality. A personality she was yet to figure out. He looked good though. Handsome even.
As she stood and waited for him to reach her, something that seemed to take forever, her blue jeans and black top made her feel incredibly underdressed.
Thankfully she didn’t have time to overthink what she was wearing because as soon as Harry was close enough she forced a big smile and waved at him.
“Hiya!” she said and wiped her clammy hands on her jeans. Harry gave her a short nod to greet her.
What happened next Y/N couldn’t quite explain, other than that her body moved on its own, and she pulled him into a hug. His hard chest pressed against hers and her eyes widened as she realized what she was doing. Harry stood rigid and tall, seemingly taken aback by her actions, but a moment later she felt one of his hands on her back, awkwardly giving her a light pat.
She pulled back only a second later, her blood rushing inside her veins, and gave him another forced smile. “Right,” she said and cleared her throat. “Shall we go inside?”
“Lead the way,” Harry said, his voice low and gruff.
Once inside they got seated at the table she had reserved for them just the day before. Harry hung his jacket across the chair, leaving him in a beige shirt he rolled the sleeves up of as he sat down. Y/N’s eyes immediately fell to his forearms and hands, she couldn’t help it, and her cheeks turned hot as she took in the muscles and veins under his skin.
Harry wasted no time before reaching for the water in the middle of their table. Without asking he grabbed her glass and poured her some as well.
“Thanks,” she said softly. Harry didn’t say anything. They sat quietly for a moment and Y/N bit the inside of her cheeks, trying to remember the potential topics of conversation she had written down in her notebook. “Soooo, um...“ she started and Harry raised his brows, waiting for her to continue.
Y/N threw a small glance over her shoulder, taking in her surroundings quickly. The restaurant she had picked for their date had a rustic feel to it. The vintage furnishing gave off a homely impression, the wooden tables and colorful interior adding a more modern vibe. Dark wooden panels covered the walls and big pillars around the restaurant with green plants hanging from the black shelves put up around the room, along with a couple of eye-catching decorative details and old books. By the bar, a big cogwheel hung by the hundreds of bottles of different wines and other alcoholic beverages.
There were some other mechanic-like objects along the bar as well, objects she had no idea what they were, but she didn’t care. Because around them in the seating area, she could feel more than just one pair of curious eyes on her.
They had gotten one of the tables placed in the middle of the restaurant, giving the people seated by the long cinnamon-colored bench attached to the wall the perfect view of their date.
Which was great, it was exactly what she had hoped for, but the attention still made her a little uncomfortable. She recognized almost everyone there, a few of them were her clients at BLOOM and one woman had been her English teacher in primary school.
She turned to look at Harry again, who was still waiting for her to say something. “Thank you for this,” she blurted out and took a sip of her water to make her mouth feel less dry.
“You didn’t really give me much of a choice,” he replied, his face still emotionless. And despite not knowing if he was joking or not, Y/N let out a little laugh.
“Sooo,” she started again, taking another sip of her water and licking her lips. “How was your day?”
“Yeah, it was alright,” Harry nodded.
“That’s good!” Y/N replied with far too much excitement. “Not too many drunks causing trouble then?”
“There’s not that many drunks during the day.”
“Right,” she said, wiping her hands on her jeans again. “Of course not.”
God, he was not making things easy.
At least he hadn’t canceled on her.
“How was your day?”
Oh.
His question surprised her.
“Yeah, it was alright,” she breathed and sat up a little straighter in her seat. “I didn’t get much sleep last night so work was a hassle, but other than that it was fine.”
“That’s good,” Harry said and took another sip of his water. Y/N nodded and glanced over at the other guests in the restaurant again. They still had eyes on them, not as many as before, but still enough to leave a burning hole in the back of her neck.
In the corner, a couple of tables away from her and Harry, she spotted another familiar man. It took her a while before she could put a name to the face. Dylan Phillips. A guy who worked for the same construction company as Reece... and a good friend of his.
Shit, was Reece there as well?
Y/N looked around frantically, looking to see if she could spot the blond man of her dreams anywhere. When she didn't, her body instantly relaxed again. Her plan was only for Reece to hear about the date, not see them. She wasn’t so sure she could handle that so soon.
Harry gave her a questioning look. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” she laughed. “Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry.”
“Alright,” he hummed and picked up a menu, his eyebrows knitted together in a sullen frown.
A few minutes later a waiter came up to their table and asked if they were ready to order. Harry ordered himself the grilled rainbow trout and some roasted vegetables, and since Y/N had hardly been able to focus on the menu she copied him and ordered the same thing.
The waiter recommended a white wine and later came back with a bottle and two glasses. He poured some for both of them to try and Harry took his glass, putting it under his nose first to give it a light sniff before having a taste. The wine rested in his mouth for a moment, his cheeks moving as he let it swirl around his tongue.
Y/N watched him closely, observing every inch of his face as he tasted the wine. She had already swallowed hers. It tasted like any other white wine she had had before. It was good, not that she knew how to properly taste wine, if it tasted good she’d drink it.
Although to be fair, she’d probably drink it even if it was bad.
When he eventually swallowed the wine in his mouth he nodded to the waiter to fill his glass. “It’s good.”
“And you Miss?” the waiter asked and turned to Y/N.
“What?” she asked. The waiter raised the bottle of wine in his hands and looked at her glass. “Oh, right! Yeah, it’s good. Thank you.”
When he left the two of them fell silent again. Frustration started to bubble up within her over Harry and his grouchy behaviour. She knew she had no right to be frustrated with him because he was the one helping her. No one had forced her to have dinner with him. She had been the forceful one.
But he had agreed to help her, the least he could do was to at least commit to it and make their dinner less awkward. It would make things a lot easier. “What’s it like working at White Deer then?”
“It’s alright,” he replied with a shrug. Y/N clenched her fists under the table. If he replied with ‘it’s alright’ one more time she’d end up smacking him across the head with one of the menus.
“Have you been a bartender before?” She tried again and gave him another one of her fake smiles.
“During my university years.” Harry leaned back in his chair, twisting his rings around his fingers, averting his gaze as far away from hers as possible.
“Oh, you’ve been to uni?” Y/N was doing her best trying to get an actual conversation started. Harry was doing his best to end any conversation before they even started. “That’s fun. What did you study?”
Harry let out an exaggerated sigh.
“I’ve got a bachelor's degree in Business Finance.”
“Oh wow.”
She’s not sure what she expected but it certainly wasn’t that. That explained his fancy profile picture on Facebook, the one of him in a suit. “How the heck did you end up as a bartender in this boring old town?”
That question got him to look right at her, his green narrowed eyes piercing right through her.
“You ask a lot of questions,” he stated, letting his arms fall to the table so he could lean forward.
“Yeah, well, I’m just trying to get to know you,” she snapped, accidentally letting some of her frustrations come out. The man sitting on the opposite side of the table made absolutely no sense to her and it was making the small gremlin in her come out. The hour she had spent with him in his small flat above the pub had not gone according to plan, but he had at least been a lot more pleasant and open to be around.
“This is all for show,” Harry chuckled and waved a hand between them. “You don’t have to get to know me.”
“It’s called being polite, you should try it sometime.” Y/N rolled her eyes.
“What’s the point?”
“In being polite?” she frowned. “It’s just common sense.”
“Says who?”
“Everyone,” she exclaimed so loud it caught the attention of the people sitting next to them. Y/N slumped in her chair, praying it would somehow make her disappear. Her plan was off to a terrible start. How could she think Harry would be the perfect person to involve in her little scheme? He was the complete opposite of the type of person she needed him to be. “It wouldn’t hurt you to at least try to be polite to someone you’re on a date with.”
“You’re the one who asked me out,” Harry said and raised his glass towards her in a toast before drinking.
“You know, you’re actually really annoying,” she grunted and reached for her glass, taking a big gulp of her wine.
And then he, finally, gave her a small smile, hiding behind his wine glass. If she had blinked she would’ve missed it. But it was enough to put the little gremlin inside of her to sleep, her frustrations fading as the little fairy of hope came out with her little wand of reassurance.
In the back of her head was Little Y/N, still just rolling her eyes at the stupid plan.
A while later their food arrived. It was a good distraction. Her stomach was rumbling and the dish in front of her looked delicious, even Harry looked pleased to get some food at last.
However, the distraction didn’t last for long.
Just as she was about to dig in, none other than Reece Higgins walked in along with his companion Jack.
Y/N nearly dropped her cutlery as she locked eyes with the dreamy hunk. “Fuck,” she swore as he lifted his arm and gave her a wave. Harry looked up at her confused. “I need you to play your part now.”
“What?” Harry asked while still chewing, wiping his mouth with his napkin as he followed her gaze over to where Reece and Jack stood. Time froze as she watched Reece say something to his friend and then made his way toward her and Harry.
“Angeeel,” Reece boasted as he approached them, his voice booming across the whole restaurant, catching the attention of everyone in the restaurant. “It’s good to see ya. Haven’t seen your pretty little face in a while. Where have ya been?”
Harry turned back around to look at her, his brows high as he tried to understand what was going on. Y/N gave him a pleading look before turning her attention to Reece.
“Oh hi!” Her voice came out unnaturally high and sweet. She wanted to die. “I’ve just been busy... Work has been busy. Yeah... busy. You know how it is.”
“We missed you last weekend down at the pub,” Reece said, flashing her his pearly white grin. “S’not the same without you.”
“Oh...“ was all that she managed to say. Her heart was beating ten times faster than it had been just minutes ago. Her brain completely scrambled. Reece was NOT supposed to show up. She had not prepared for that.
And Harry did nothing to help the situation feel less uncomfortable.
His broad shoulders and composed posture was the only thing she could focus on. His presence was overwhelmingly painful as he looked at Reece with narrowed eyes.
Every second of the uncomfortable silence that passed made her fidget in her seat.
How had her plan gone so horrifically wrong already? And was the room spinning or was it only her in her head?
Or perhaps Reece showing up was a blessing in disguise? Could seeing her on a date with someone else be exactly the push he needed to ask her out? She couldn’t tell yet. She could hardly think. “Well, this is Harry!” she blurted out, every ounce of dignity leaving her body at once. “My date.”
She regretted the words as soon as she said them.
Was it too late to just run out of the restaurant and book those tickets to Svalbard?
Reece glanced over at Harry, letting his eyes size him up for a moment. Neither of the two men said anything. Harry did not budge under the judgemental glare. Not a single muscle in his face or body moved as Reece looked him up and down. The chatter around them was so loud that Y/N thought she might pass out.
Then Reece turned his focus back to her, without uttering a single word to her date.
“Anyway,” he started and flashed her another one of his smiles. “You never sent me that carrot cake recipe. My mum can’t stop raving about it.”
“Gosh, I’m sorry,” she apologized. “I completely forgot. I’ll send it to you when I get home.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he said and put one of his hands on the back of her chair, making the hairs on the back of her neck stand. “Maybe you could come over and make it for us again sometime.”
“Yeah... yeah, absolutely.”
“It’s my mum’s birthday soon. I know she’d be over the moon if you could make it for us again.”
“Of course.” It was close to impossible to breathe with Reece standing so close to her. His familiar cologne was taking over all of her senses. When his fingers brushed over her shoulder lightly, his touch lingering longer than it ever had before, she nearly went into a cardiac arrest.
“Aw, you truly are an Angel sent from above,” he praised and Y/N could’ve sworn he squeezed her shoulder before removing his hand completely. “I’ll text you.” He threw Harry another scornful glance before giving her a quick wink and left to join his friends.
Y/N followed him with her gaze as he greeted Dylan and his other mates with a handshake and roaring laughter.
What just happened?
The food on her plate was getting colder but she was too stunned to even think about her rumbling stomach.
Was... Was her plan working?
Then Harry’s looming presence made itself known to her again. When she turned to look at him, he was already staring right at her. His shoulders tense and lips turned down in a disapproving scowl.
“That’s the guy we’re trying to make jealous?” he scoffed. “Jesus Christ.“
“Shhhh! Shut up, don’t let him hear you!” Y/N hissed.
“He seems like a proper twat.”
“Just like you then,” she shot back with a sarcastic smile.
Harry only shook his head at her, his eyes wide as he looked between her and the corner Reece was sitting in.
“You are the most delusional person I think I’ve ever met.”
“Whatever,” Y/N said, brushing off his comment right away. “The plan is working!”
“Oh really?” Harry asked and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Yes,” she told him in a hushed tone, worried Reece would somehow hear her if she spoke too loud. “Did you not hear that conversation? He wants me to come over. He’s never asked me to come over before!”
“He wants you to bake his mother’s birthday cake,” Harry told her and rolled his eyes. “Because he can’t be arsed to do it himself.”
“No, it’s because she loves it.”
“It’s because he’s a twat, and you’re far too gullible if you think he’s into you.”
“Whatever,” she muttered and picked up her fork again, but something in her had shifted. Her rumbling stomach turned over at the thought of even taking one single bite of the appetizing meal on her plate. “You didn’t have to say yes to this if you’re just gonna make me feel shit about myself.”
She couldn’t bring herself to look at him as she spoke. His words had gotten to her a lot more than they should’ve. It wasn't the first time someone had expressed a poor opinion about Reece and her crush on him. Arlo did so almost daily.
It somehow felt different coming from Harry though. Maybe because she had hoped things would go smoother with him. She had hoped he’d like her and see her for who she was. Not have the same opinion as everybody else had of her. But if Harry, who didn’t know her yet, thought those things about her then maybe they were true?
“Hey,” Harry said softly after a while. “I’m sorry.”
“Whatever,” she repeated and kept her gaze on her food. Her brain was still scrambled. Maybe even more so now. Her plan was working... right? Or was Harry, and everyone else, seeing things for what they were? Was she just being an idiot for thinking someone like Reece Higgins would ever like someone like her?
Reece had seemed jealous when she tried to introduce Harry to him. He invited her to come over and bake. That had to mean something.
It had to.
“Don’t listen to me,” Harry told her. “You have no reasons to feel shit about yourself.”
She glanced up at him through her lashes. The Harry in front of her then was a version of him she had never gotten a glimpse of before. The permanent scowl on his face was nowhere to be found. Instead, his green eyes looked brighter and soft as he reached across the table and put one of his hands over hers, taking her completely off guard. “I’m sorry.”
His hand was warm and rough on top of hers. It took her a while to find the words to speak.
“It’s okay,” she breathed out. Harry studied her face for a moment before he pulled his hand back, leaving hers cold, and gave her another smile.
A smile that started in his eyes before it reached his lips and gave her a brief look at the small dimples on his cheeks.
“Alright then,” he said, picking up his knife and fork again. “Let’s enjoy our dinner for the night and rejoice in the fact that your plan is working, and how we don’t have to do this again.”
Y/N chuckled.
“You better not be falling in love with me then,” she teased, hoping her second attempt at the joke she had told him the other night would land better than it had the first time.
Harry looked up at her with the same unimpressed face as always, but his eyes remained bright and soft.
The rest of their dinner went by quite smoothly after that. They didn’t talk much but she still managed to get a small conversation going about her job as a hairdresser, telling him stories about bitter old Mrs.Green and lovely Alfred and Georgia.
Granted, she was the one doing most of the talking but Harry didn’t seem to mind. He listened intensely to every word she said and nodded along to whatever story she was telling him. She had another glass of wine, and a third, because it was helping her feel more confident and relaxed in the grumpy man’s company (and the stress of knowing Reece was right behind her a couple of tables away.)
When the waiter asked if they would like any dessert she eagerly told him she wanted to try their fried ice cream and berries and had another glass of wine.
Now and again she glanced over to Reece and his group and made sure her giggles could be heard over to the corner where they were sitting. Harry couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes at her exaggerating behaviour, but she paid him no mind. He didn’t call her out on it and that was good enough for her.
When they eventually called it a night and asked for their bill, Harry managed to pull out his card and paid before she could even blink. She tried to argue with him. She should be the one to pay, it was her plan after all, but Harry ignored her as he entered his PIN into the payment terminal and declined the receipt.
On their way out Y/N glanced over at Reece one last time and met his blue eyes. He gave her another cheeky wink, causing her to trip over her own two feet. Harry caught her by her elbow to keep her standing, his face twisted into a troubled pout and chest expanding with a deep sigh. She tried to laugh it off.
Once they got outside it had started drizzling. Tiny raindrops fell from the dark sky slowly, not big enough to get either of them drenched, but still enough to make her shudder as soon as the chilly air hit her warm cheeks.
“How are you getting home?” Harry asked and stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jacket.
“I came straight from work so I have my bike over there,” she told him and pointed in the direction of the salon.
“You’re taking your bike home?” he blinked, disturbed and unimpressed by her choice of transportation. “You’ve had quite a lot of wine and it’s late.” Y/N shrugged, she had managed to bike home at a later time and after a lot more wine before. It was no big deal.
Harry cocked his head to the side as he took a moment to study her, eventually, he sighed. “I’ll give you a ride.”
“You’ve also been drinking,” she reminded him.
“Get a taxi then.”
“I ride my bike all the time. I’m basically a pro.” She had to hold back a smug smile. “It’s fine.”
Harry didn’t seem convinced. Just as she was about to give him another round of reassurance a strong chilly breeze swept over them, making her shudder noticeably. Harry wrinkled his nose, a concerned frown taking over his features.
“Do you not have a jacket?”
“I left it at work,” Y/N explained and rubbed her arms to bring a little heat back to her body. “I’ll get it before I go home.”
A couple of seconds of silence passed before Harry let his hands fall from his pockets and he shrugged the brown jacket off his shoulders.
“Take this,” he said and held out the jacket towards her. His offer made her take a small step back.
“No, you don’t have to,” she began and shook her head. “I’ll get my jacket from work. It’s okay.”
“Just take it,” Harry insisted, still holding out the jacket between them. “Your lips are literally turning blue.”
“What about you?”
“Have you forgotten I live like two minutes from here? I’ll be fine.”
The jacket felt daunting as if there was some sort of ulterior motive behind the gesture. Was Harry being nice to her?
The entire night was a rollercoaster. Nothing was going according to plan. Whether it was for the better or for worse; she had no idea yet. “Take the jacket and get your annoying ass home,” he groaned when she made no attempts to move and essentially shoved the jacket into her hands.
An overwhelming dark scent of vanilla washed over her as she slipped the thick material over her shoulders. It was heavy, the sleeves so long they fell past her hands, but it was warm and it instantly made her feel more comfortable.
“It makes me look like an ugly little duckling,” she joked with a small chuckle, flapping her arms out along the side of her body, the wine in her blood making her less bothered about the words coming out of her mouth. “Thank you.”
“Yeah yeah,” Harry mumbled. “Don’t fall over.”
“I won’t. I told you. I’m a pro.”
Harry gave her what looked like half of a smile. The silence that fell between them then was the most comfortable one yet. She couldn’t take her eyes off of him. There were so many questions still unanswered. He stood tall before her, his stance as stiff and stern as always, yet there was something different in the way he was looking at her. The green in his eyes was still brighter and softer compared to any other occasion she had been around him. It sparked her curiosity about him even further.
Harry was a mystery.
A mystery Y/N now wanted to solve more than ever.
Behind them a group of people exited the restaurant, laughing loudly, causing the small bubble between them to break.
Harry awkwardly cleared his throat and took a step back from her to give himself some more space, raking a hand through his hair while looking up to the dark sky.
“See you around Ducky.”
✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄
White Deer was buzzing.
Going back to the stuffy pub had not been a part of her initial plans for the weekend.
However, after spending the previous day being investigated by Arlo and Margot about the date with Harry, the two of them demanding a recollection of every second of their night, they had told her she needed to join them and the others. At first, the idea of going to the pub felt rather tiresome, because her friends were going to be watching her and Harry like a bunch of hawks.
Then she realized Reece was undoubtedly going to be there as well.
Which was ultimately the reason she ended up agreeing to go back to White Deer. The opportunity to see how he would behave around her was far too intriguing to turn down. Hopefully seeing him again would give a good indication of whether her plan had worked or not.
After getting home on Thursday, and the events of the evening had settled, she concluded that Reece walking in had been ideal. He had seen her on a date instead of just hearing rumors around town. He knew it was real, or well, as real as a fake date could be to everyone else.
And that was truly the best outcome.
In her head, he had definitely seemed jealous.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t discuss her speculations with her friends because they also thought her fake date was real, and she had deliberately left out the events of Reece showing up to them. The wine she had consumed at dinner with Harry was already giving her enough of a headache, there was no need to add to it.
The downside of going back to the pub was that she was going to have to see Harry again so soon, and she was yet to figure out how to act with both him and her friends around. It was an issue that she hadn’t considered when she thought of her plan. Did she go up and talk to him? It would surely make her friends suspicious if she didn’t, especially Arlo. They were all under the impression that the date had gone great.
Y/N would have to talk to him, and that was fine, but as she met up with her friends and they made their way towards the pub she started worrying. Her friends might expect her to act more flirtatious than friendly towards the moody bartender. She wasn’t sure how to play it up in front of everyone.
The whole point of dating Harry was to get Reece to pay more attention to her, and get him to talk to her more. That wasn't going to work if she spent her night chatting to Harry to play it up for her friends.
“Told you this was a bad idea,” Little Y/N nagged.
Once inside the crowded pub, her uncertainty over the situation really set in. Within the first couple of seconds, she spotted both Harry and Reece, and she had no idea what to do.
The group she had entered with all started making their way over to their usual table where Reece, Jack and Finn were already sitting along with Kiara.
“You gonna go say hi to your man then?” Arlo teased and gave her a light nudge with his elbow.
“Eh, yeah,” Y/N laughed nervously because she had hoped to say hello to her actual romantic interest before talking to her fake one. “Absolutely.”
“Would you get me a beer while you’re at it as well? Cheers. I’ll get the next round.”
Before she could respond he had already turned around and walked away to join the others, leaving her no other choice but to go talk to Harry.
As she pushed herself through the crowd of people to get to the bar she locked eyes with him almost immediately. Harry, now dressed in the familiar black outfit she had formerly associated him with, stood behind the bar and had his hands full of different beverages. There was a cluster of drunk people before him, waiting to be served. Fortunately for Harry, he wasn’t working alone and had another bartender assisting him in the other corner of the bar.
Somehow she managed to squeeze past the drunken mass and placed herself at the end of the bar, deciding it would be best to wait until it was a little less crowded before even attempting to talk to him.
There was something gratifying about watching him work. The way his body moved as he swiftly poured new drinks while simultaneously making sure people paid for their drinks, was almost hypnotizing.
Everything he did seemed so effortless.
Harry kept throwing glances to where she was patiently waiting for the chance to talk to him. The third time she caught him looking at her she gave him a small wave.
Eventually, people started going back to their seats, leaving more room in front of the bar and Y/N scooted her way forward until she stood face to face with him.
“You made it home in one piece then I see,” he commented and leaned against the bar, throwing a towel over his shoulder.
“Yeah, never doubt my skills when it comes to riding a bike,” she beamed, holding her head high. Harry chuckled and reached over to get himself a bottle of water. Y/N watched him as he downed a big gulp of the clear liquid, her eyes transfixed on the few drops that spilled over and dribbled down his chin and onto his shirt.
The bottle was almost empty when he put it down again. The muscles in his neck moved as he sniffled and wiped his wet mouth with the back of his hand.
Y/N shook her head to break the trance she had found herself in. She was paying far too much attention to how his tongue licked the remaining drops of the water off his pink lips. “I forgot to bring your jacket back by the way... sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he assured her and looked over to the remaining customers around the bar, still waiting for their turn to be served. “Can I get you anything to drink?”
“Right, yeah,” she nodded. “Just two beers, please. Any kind is good.”
Her conversation with Harry was cut short because of the busy night and she’d lie if she said relief didn’t flow through her as Harry turned his back to her after getting her the drinks.
When she arrived at the table Arlo cheered loudly.
“Finally!”
Y/N gave him an unimpressed glare as she handed over the beer.
The whole friend group had gathered at White Deer. Kiara stood up to give her a brief hug and complimented her on the green checkered trousers she was wearing, giving her a much-needed boost of confidence.
The table they had claimed as theirs when they first started going to White Deer regularly was small. From the beginning, it was only Y/N, Arlo and Margot, but as their friend group grew the small table became even more cramped. Still, they persisted to keep their table as theirs, even though they had to squeeze into each other to make room.
And since everyone had shown up to have a drink that night it was already a tight fit when Y/N joined them, leaving her unsure of where to sit down. Usually, they could pull up another chair, but the pub was far too busy and most seats were already occupied by someone.
“Angel,” Reece greeted, his voice laced with prominent tenderness, and moved over on the bench he was sitting on. “I saved you a seat, Gorgeous.” He had to push Jack and Finn to the side to make more room for her, it would be tight, but who was she to say no to a place next to Reece Higgins?
“Thanks,” she mumbled and lowered her head to hide how flustered the gesture had made her.
It was mind-boggling how close she ended up to him. The feeling of his firm thigh pressing snugly against hers left her leg burning and her head swirling. It was the closest she had ever been to him before and she had no idea what to do with herself or her hands. If she let them drop there was a high risk of accidentally touching him, and that seemed highly inappropriate seeing as it would be far too close to his private area.
Instead, she opted to keep them on the table and used both hands to grasp onto her beer, hoping no one would notice her jittering in her seat.
“How’s Harry?” Margot chirped up and enthusiastically leaned over, resting both her arms on the table with clasped hands. It took her a moment before Y/N realized the question had been directed toward her.
“He’s good,” she replied with a short nod and took a long drink from her beer. It was getting far too hot in there.
Whether it was because of the number of people in there or because she was sitting so close to Reece was unclear.
It also could’ve been from the piercing look she caught Harry shooting her from the bar or the funny looks from the people around her as she didn’t elaborate further on her answer. She cleared her throat and stretched her neck a little to get some cool air on her skin. “But he was quite busy, so I didn’t want to bother him too much.”
“Yeah,” Reece scoffed before letting out a dry laugh. “There’s no point in wasting your time with that snobby prick when you’ve got better company right here.” She didn’t miss the way his chest puffed out as he spoke, nor did she miss the way Arlo very noticeably rolled his eyes.
“Oh yeah!” Finn exclaimed from the end of the table. “You went on a date with Harry! How’d it go?”
God, it was getting far too hot in there.
She took another drink of her beer, praying the cool liquid would somehow calm her down. Reece turned his head to look directly at her, a small smirk playing at the corner of his mouth.
“There’s not much to say really,” Y/N told them and let out a nervous laugh. “It was nice.”
“He gave her his jacket!” Margot gushed with twinkling eyes. “Such a gentleman.”
“Oh please, that's the oldest trick in the book,” Reece snickered, earning a loud laugh from Jack.
“What would you even know about being a gentleman?” Arlo taunted and pursed his lips to disguise his smug grin. “You’re literally the son of Satan.”
“At least he is getting laid,” Jack defended and raised his hand to give Reece a high five.
“S'alright, it must be frustrating to never have someone other than yourself touch your dick.” Y/N shifted uncomfortably as Reece's body shook with laughter next to her. “No wonder Arlo is always miserable.
“At least I haven’t given half of this town chlamydia.”
“Alright,” Ruby cut off the three boys quickly and rolled her eyes. “That’s enough toxic masculinity for me in one night,”
“Aw, Sissy,” Reece grinned. “There is no need to be crabby on your night off. We’re only having a laugh.”
Ruby only mirrored his grin and raised her middle finger.
“Are you gonna see him again then Y/N?” Kiara asked to bring the conversation back to its initial subject.
The bickering siblings turned quiet as the attention was once again back on Y/N. She raised her glass to her lips and downed some more, still hoping the beer would help cool her down.
Which was a mistake, because suddenly there was a heavy hand on her thigh. She choked on the beer as she tried to swallow, some of it spilling down on her shirt as she quickly pulled the glass away from her lips.
“Oh,” she coughed and covered her mouth. Arlo gave her a questioning look and glanced over at Reece with narrowed eyes. Fuck. She knew that look.
Reece on the other hand didn’t seem faced at all. He had the same innocent stance as before as if his hand wasn’t currently laid on the top of her leg, and only waited for her answer to the question. “Ehm, I don’t know. Maybe. We’ll see.” She gave them a weak smile and cleared her throat a couple of times to ease the irritating urge to cough.
“You should definitely bang him tonight,” Finn encouraged with a wink and raised his own glass in her direction.
“Oh my god,“ she mumbled and took a shaky breath just as Reece gave her leg a light squeeze. Then his hand was gone before she had even had the chance to process it had been there in the first place. Beside her, Reece had a pleased smirk on his face as he quietly sipped his drink.
Arlo was still watching her, his eyes full of suspicion. Y/N only managed to give him a small smile, hoping it was enough to reassure him nothing weird was going on, and then turned her attention to the others and the new conversation that had started around the table.
Her friend, thankfully, never said anything about the incident. The night went on as it normally would. They talked shit, played a drinking game, talked some more shit, and of course, they drank. A lot.
And the topic of Harry and their date never came up again. She didn’t even get the chance to go back to the bar. As promised, Arlo got her a second beer, and then Reece made sure to bring her back a drink any time he got a new one for himself. It made her insides feel warm and fuzzy. Her plan had worked. He had never been so attentive to her before.
The only problem with him bringing her drinks was the fact that she definitely couldn’t drink as much, or as fast, as the 6’2 tall man. His bulky body was built to handle the strong bitter drinks. Hers wasn’t, and it resulted in her being far drunker than she had planned as she tried to keep up with him.
It wasn’t until Finn dragged her and Ruby over to play darts against him and Arlo that she realized how drunk she was. The room was floating around her. She wasn’t sure how any of them trusted her with such a sharp object as a dart needle in her current state.
To no one's surprise, she didn’t hit the board a single time. It didn’t matter though, it didn't stop her from constantly laughing as Arlo and Finn tried to come up with different creative ways to throw the dart. All to give her and Ruby a chance to win. “I’m sorry!” she laughed as her dart fell to the ground once more, even though they had all allowed her to stand closer to the board.
She was having a good time, it was nice to just be able to laugh with her friends again after spending the past couple of weekends at home, too scared to set foot inside of White Deer.
That was until she spotted Reece sitting with none other than Bianca all over again.
Judging by how close the two of them were sat it was far from just friendly. Her laughter died down immediately as she watched Reece lean even closer to her and push a piece of her auburn hair away from her face. Bianca giggled sweetly.
What the...
“You’re not bothered about that right?” Arlo said and bumped his hips into her to get her attention.
“What?” She snapped her head to look at him. He bobbed his head in the direction she had just been glaring and Y/N felt her breath get stuck in her throat.
“Does it bother you?” Arlo asked again.
“What?” she repeated and squeezed her eyes shut in an attempt to stop her head from swirling so much. “Of course not.”
“Right,” he began dubiously. “Cause you have Harry now, don’t you?”
She immediately opened her eyes again.
Harry.
She had Harry.
Her plan.
Without saying another word, or giving an explanation, she marched off. Her sight set on the bar. The little gremlin in her had woken up again, coming out from its cave ready to cause a ruckus.
Her plan had been working. At least it seemed like it had. All of Reece’s actions had pointed to it working. He had been talking to her non-stop back at the table, he had bought her drinks, saved her a seat, laughed at all of her silly jokes, and touched her thigh. He had never done any of that before. She hadn’t even been playing darts for an hour. How was he now with Bianca?
Harry stood with his back facing her as she approached him. The previous crowd of drunks was pretty much gone by now, leaving the bar empty and giving him a chance to clean some utensils under the running water tap.
He turned around promptly when she made her presence known by stumbling into one of the chairs though, causing a loud bang.
“Hiiiiiii,” she sang out and leaned over the bar, acting as if nothing had happened. The top of the bar was sticky from alcohol and would leave stains all over her top, but it was a great support as she let her body slump over.
“You okay?” Harry frowned.
“Yeah, of course,” she told him and put on a charming smile. “Just thought I’d see how your night was going.”
“It’s fine,” he replied and lifted an eyebrow. “How’s yours?”
“It’s great!” She glanced over to Reece and Bianca again and Harry followed her gaze curiously.
“Are you sure about that?” he queried. Y/N didn’t reply. Instead, she kept her eyes on the pair who somehow seemed to have gotten even closer to each other than before.
Nothing made sense. Not this night or Thursday night. There had been a noticeable difference in Reece’s behaviour towards her. He made it clear he wasn’t a big fan of Harry and had instantly changed the topic that the one brief time Margot had tried to talk about the date again. He had come across as jealous. The same way he had been at the restaurant when he refused to greet Harry. He had given her the impression he didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that a date had occurred between them.
Then it hit her; what if Reece buying her drinks was his way to stop her from talking to Harry? Because he didn’t want her to talk to him.
He was jealous!
Which had to mean her plan was truly working.
And Arlo was right; she had Harry, and she would have to step it up a notch to really get under Reece’s skin.
“Alright, so I think I should stay over at your place tonight.”
She turned her attention back to Harry who looked back at her with a stunned expression.
“What?”
“He’s playing a game, and I’m not backing down,” she said firmly. The pub was already quieter, it wasn’t too long until they closed, and it wasn’t nearly as packed as it had been an hour ago. She could wait around, and also make sure Reece heard about her sleepover at Harry’s. “I’m staying over.”
Harry shook his head.
“You’re not.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Well, I’ll just stay when everyone else leaves and wait for you to finish,” she pressed him with a smug grin. “It would be terribly rude of you to kick me out and make me walk all the way home.” When Harry still didn't look convinced she propped her chin up on the palm of her hand, blinking innocently before adding; “Alone.”
Harry cocked his head to the side, his jaw moving from chewing on a piece of gum and his tongue pushing against his cheek. Y/N didn’t let herself fold under his intense eye contact. She kept her eyes locked with his, challenging him to give up first. Behind her somewhere Finn’s loud laughter echoed across the calm pub and she squinted her eyes to keep her focus on the man in front of her.
Harry took a step forward, placing his arms next to hers on top of the bar, and leaned in closer, his face only inches from hers now.
"Just for the record, you are also really annoying,” he told her, his warm breath hitting her face.
"It’s a good thing I'm not paying you to like me then,” Y/N replied and pressed her lips together to stop her victorious smile. “I'm paying you to cling to me like a magnet so Reece finally realizes what he’s missing out on."
✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄
As she entered Harry's small home for the second time she instantly became aware of the error in her brilliant idea. She had completely forgotten that his place only consisted of an old armchair and a twin-sized bed.
Harry walked in before her, throwing his keys into the same bowl as the last time. He glanced over his shoulder at her and gave her a look that screamed ‘I told you this was a terrible idea’ when he noticed her staring at the small bed. She didn’t let it discourage her though and quickly plastered on a big smile.
“It’s very cozy in here,” she said and kicked off her chunky loafers. They made a loud thud as they bounced against the old wooden floor.
“Not really.”
“Well, I think so.”
Compared to the last time she had been there, the small room seemed a lot cleaner and the curtain covering the window was pushed to the side, letting some light shine through. It wasn’t much since it was dark outside, but the street lamp outside the pub contributed to some glow. It gave the room a far more welcoming aura than the yellow sheen the old ceiling lamp had given the mucky white walls.
Instead of flicking the light switch Harry got some matches from the small table and lit the two candles he had placed on his dresser. It didn’t help the room get much brighter, but it was still better than having to see the discolored walls in their full revolting glory.
She waited by the entry door and watched as Harry started rummaging through the drawers of his dresser. A moment later he handed her a pair of gray sweatpants and a matching crewneck.
“There should be a spare toothbrush in the cabinet if you want to brush your teeth,” he offered and pointed towards the bathroom. This was the second time he gave her some of his clothing. While it was incredibly kind of him, she didn’t want to sleep in the clothes she had worn at the pub, it very much took her by surprise when he offered her a change of clothing.
She didn’t question it though and took the clothes from him and walked to the bathroom to get changed.
The bathroom, like the rest of the flat, was incredibly cramped. How anyone had managed to fit a toilet, shower, and sink in there was truly incredible. It was almost impossible to move in there without stumbling into one of the three objects. When trying to slide her tight trousers off she accidentally knocked over the small basket placed by the sink, causing some of his hygiene products to tumble to the floor.
“Shit,” she mumbled and kneeled to pick it all up. When she noticed the expensive bottle of perfume her heart almost plummeted inside her chest. Luckily, it hadn’t broken and she could breathe a sigh of relief.
She took a moment to study what other products he used, which were only a deodorant, some mouthwash, a bottle of contact lens solution, and a half-empty container of hair gel. After being a hairdresser for a couple of years she had gotten quite picky when it came to products and seeing the cheap gel he used triggered a disapproving frown.
No wonder his curls always looked so matted and dry.
When she had gotten all the items back in the basket and successfully got changed into the clothes he had given her, Y/N stopped to look at her reflection in the dirty mirror. Her mascara was smudged around her bloodshot eyes, her skin oily and hair frizzy from the number of times she had raked her hand through it. No wonder Reece had gone for Bianca. She looked like a mess.
And to add to her already messy state, she suddenly started hiccuping. She covered her mouth, worried Harry had heard the very loud embarrassing squeak that came out of her.
Following her many failed attempts to get rid of the annoying hiccups, she gave up and just looked for the toothbrush Harry had told her about.
While brushing her teeth she contemplated whether she should wash the make-up off her face or just leave it on. Ultimately, she decided against doing so since the only option she had for a face wash was his hand soap. Her skin would be happier with her if she just left the make-up on rather than dry it out completely with soap.
Still hiccuping Y/N folded her clothes into a neat pile and tucked them under her arm as she left the bathroom.
Harry had changed into a similar pair of sweats he’d given her when she came out and had his fringe pulled back from his face with a purple hair clip. The floorboards were cold under her bare feet and she regretted taking her socks off, but she had never been the type of person who could sleep with socks on, no matter how cold her toes got.
Another hiccup slipped past her lips just as Harry turned to look at her. She gave him an embarrassed smile.
“I got hiccups,” she told him, stating the obvious with another hiccup.
“I can tell,” Harry commented and turned to get her a bottle of water from the fridge. “Are you hungry or...?”
“No, thank you. I’m just tired,” she wrinkled her nose. “I think I drank too much.” Her forced laugh was cut off by another hiccup.
“Probably,” Harry agreed and scratched the back of his neck. “You can go lay down if you want.”
“Thanks.”
Harry then squeezed past her to have his turn in the bathroom. After hearing the sound of the door locking Y/N turned to face the bed again.
It really was tiny.
She placed her pile of clothes on top of the dresser and drank some water, once again trying to get rid of her hiccups by holding her breath and swallowing big gulps.
The sweatpants she had changed into dragged against the floor as she slowly made her way towards the bed. If taking his jacket on Thursday had felt daunting, getting into his bed was ten times worse. There was no way either of them would be able to get a good night's sleep having to share such a small space.
“How does he even fit in this?” she whispered to herself as she pulled the duvet to the side and got in. Another squeaky hiccup fell past her lips along with the creaking noise the bed made as her body sunk into the soft mattress. Groaning, she took another deep breath and held on for as long as possible.
Finally, her attempts of getting rid of the irksome hiccups seemed to pay off.
Or it was, very possibly, the shock of seeing a shirtless Harry come out from the bathroom that finally scared her hiccups away.
She breathed out heavily as Harry walked back to his dresser and started rummaging through his clothes again. Y/N didn’t mean to ogle at his half-naked body, but she was only human. The absence of the black and sweaty White Deer t-shirt he wore for work was disturbingly hard to ignore.
And Harry was fit.
The shadow from the candles flickered against the outlines of his lean muscles as he looked from a sweater to sleep in, and for the first time, she got a good look at the tattoo she had only seen the base of before. Across his upper arm was a classic portrayal of a ship in black and gray ink.
It looked small on him as his biceps flexed with the movements of his arms. The dark made it hard to see any details of the tattoo, but she was also far too distracted by his toned body to focus on any details.
And far too soon he grabbed a similar crew neck to the one he had given to her and pulled it over his head.
“How do you want to do this then?”
“Huh?” she blinked.
“Do you want to share or... should I sleep in that?” he said and threw a glance to the worn-out armchair in the corner.
“What? No, don’t be silly. You can’t sleep in that,” she told him and shuddered at the thought of what kind of nasty creatures might live in it. “It’s fine we can share. It’s your bed.”
After a short moment of hesitance, he bowed his head down to blow out the candles he had lit not that long ago and came over to lay down next to her. The room had a sweet lingering scent from the candles and Y/N suspected he hadn’t lit them to create some light, but to mask the musty smell coming from the old building.
They lay in silence for a while, Harry’s warm body pressing into hers. It was tight, with zero space between them. Neither of them dared to move a single muscle, both stiff as a board, and she feared she was going to end up pushing him off the bed during the night.
The only barrier between them, besides their clothes, was the duvet and he let her have all of it. It was intimidating being so close to him in such a small bed. Her eyes landed on a dark spot on the ceiling and she kept her gaze focused on it to avoid dealing with the awkward tension between them.
Outside, below the window, a group of roaring drunks roamed the street. Their drunken cheers were loud through the thin walls, and Y/N used the disturbance to push the images she now had of Harry without a shirt to the back of her mind.
At least her hiccups were gone.
“Do you have more than just one tattoo?” The question fell from her after the heavy silence became too much to handle.
“No, just one.”
“Does it mean anything?” she asked and fumbled to lie on the side of her body, making the whole bed shake in the process of doing so, both to give herself some more space but also so she could look at him instead of the dark spot.
“Nah, just got it when I turned 18 to cause a little rebellion,” his voice was low and slow as he spoke.
“Is your family not a fan of tattoos then?”
“I guess you could say that,” he mused.
Y/N took the silence that followed as an opportunity to study his side profile closer. The usual sharp jawline looked so much softer when laying down and the long lashes rested delicately against his cheeks as he kept his eyes closed. “My mum doesn’t really care, I think.” The sound of his low voice startled her, still, she didn’t miss how a somewhat pleased grin overtook his face before he continued. “But Patrick nearly had one of his arteries rupture when he found out.”
“Patrick?” Y/N hummed, uncertain whether to ask more in case he’d shut her down like he often did when she asked too much. Her curiosity got the better of her though like it also often did. “Is he your stepdad or something?”
“My mum’s husband,” he corrected her firmly, still keeping his eyes closed.
“Right,” she mumbled. “What about your dad then? Is he a fan of tattoos?”
“I dunno,” he shrugged lightly and his shoulder bumped against her chest. “I never met him.”
“You never met your dad?”
“No.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Is what it is.”
Y/N watched as his brows drew together in a deep frown, feeling bad for bringing his dad up. She didn’t know he had never met his dad though, how could she? It was only the second time he had told her something about his family.
When the long silence fell between them again she knew she had to lighten the mood somehow, not wanting to go to sleep on a bad note when he had finally seemed willing to talk to her.
So she did what she always did when things turned tricky - she tried to tell him a joke.
“Maybe that’s why you’re always so grumpy... because your family wouldn’t allow you to get more tattoos.”
Harry peaked one of his eyes open and glanced at her, as unimpressed by her attempt at being funny as always, before closing his eyes again with a deep sigh.
“Maybe,” he told her and shifted his position a little to get more comfortable. “Is your family the reason for you always being so nosey?”
“I’m not nosy,” she gasped.
“Soo, you didn’t go straight home after being here the last time and search me up online?”
Her heart dropped.
“I didn’t mean to do that!” she replied quickly.
Harry blinked both of his eyes open then and turned his head to look at her, a hint of amusement now written across his face.
“Do what?” He asked. “Like my picture or stalk me?”
“I'm not stalking you,” she spluttered and propped herself up on her elbow to create more space between them, worried he’d feel how fast her heart was beating if she didn’t.
It didn’t help much, most of her body was still pressed tightly up against his.
“Ah, my bad, I forgot you’re just harassing me to make some lame wanker jealous.”
She opened her mouth to defend herself further, however, no words came out and Harry chuckled smugly knowing he had already won.
He turned his head back so he faced the ceiling again and comfortably closed his eyes, content with her lack of excuses.
Y/N kept her eyes focused on him, even though she wanted to sink through the mattress and disappear. The nosey side of her wanted to pry further and ask more about the photo she had liked since he had brought it up himself. More specifically, she wanted to ask about the woman in the said photo.
For once though, she listened to Little Y/N as she came out screaming at her not to go there. She was already mortified from being called out on her stalking by him. There was no need to make an already humiliating situation even more disastrous. It would only come back to haunt her.
Another time.
“Do you ever take care of your curls?” she blurted out instead because she wasn’t going to allow him to have the last word. Her eyes fell to the little hair clip he still had on top of his head. She had to stop herself from reaching over to twirl a curl of his hair, to get a sense of his texture. “I think your hair would be really pretty if you did. I can recommend some good moisture masks if you’d like... and some better gel to get a lot more definition. Instead of the rubbish one you have in your bathroom.”
Harry peaked one of his eyes open again, this time a lot more drowsy than before.
“Go to sleep, Ducky.”
Y/N rolled her eyes at the stupid nickname and fell back on her pillow with a grunt.
“Goodnight... Grumpy.”

No page break used… that’s the point. This isn’t even every school. It doesn’t take into account grocery stores, movie theaters, workplaces, public parks, malls, hair salons, bowling alleys, concerts, dance halls, nightclubs, yoga studios, places of worship, fucking “Independence” Day parades…. The list is endless. We are a sad, inept, violent nation incapable and unwilling to protect even our most vulnerable citizens.
Takes a long time to scroll thru the list and unless laws are changed, the list will get longer.

Location- Skyline district, New Olympus
Personality- He's intellectual, cool, & suave, viewing debate as one of the greatest intellectual arts. He's single.
He has the standard abilities of a god except shapeshifting. As the god of debate & appeal his other powers/abilities include speech manipulation, dispute inducement, vocal projection, and seductive magnetism.
Some members of his family includes his younger sister Dimósia (goddess of debate) & niece Peitho (goddess of persuasion & sensuality). His relationship with his sister is good despite their busy schedules, but he hasn't been around his niece much.
Neicus shares a condo in the Skyline neighborhood of New Olympus. He lives in The Parthenos Plaza with his best friend Favian (god of philosophy). Neicus gets around in a sleek silver sports car & has been thinking about possibly getting a pet griffin!
He takes great pride in his appearance and physicality. Neicus has a whole skincare routine & keeps his facial hair neatly trimmed. He often frequents the medical office of Paean (goddess of physicians) at the royal palace on Mt. Olympus for teeth whitening, the plaza's gym for a high cardio workout, and the Gold Rays tanning studio for a healthy looking golden bronze glow. Neicus describes his personal style as "sophisticated casual." He opts for quality over quantity when it comes to his wardrobe- pressed silk shirts, khakis, as well as fine leather shoes, sneakers, & sandals going upward of 500 drachmas a pop! He also has his suits expertly tailored.
A go-to drink for him is a white russian. He also likes dry martinis, scotch on the rocks, pinot grigio, champagne, negronis, rum & cokes, and beer. His usual from The Roasted Bean is a large decaf espresso.
His go-to thing to eat for breakfast is the chipotle chicken, scrambled egg, & avacado sandwich on ciabatta bread from The Bread Box. He'll also order hash browns, sweet potato home fries, and turkey sausage patties from The Hearthside Diner.
Neicus' bond with Favian is deep. They like to think of themselves as brothers. They even got matching friendship tattoos on the inside of their wrists.
A guilty pleasure for him are buffalo wings! He opts for a 20 piece whenever he goes to Olympic Chef.
Neicus' main source of income comes from being the head of the communications department at New Olympus University. He personally teaches the new media communications class. Neicus is also an esteemed speechwriter, even writing the speech that King Zeus delivered on the country's millennial anniversary celebration! For other means of income he models for/endorses Platinum Alchemy, Cerulean Stone, Ouránio Théama, & Thunderstruck (Zeus' underwear brand). Neicus is also a frequent political commentator on The Agnostic Network. With his personal ventures, he's trying to step into the world of professional boxing.
His favorite dessert is the mille-feuille from Salon du Sucre, the goddess Aphrodite's patisserie.
In the pantheon Neicus is friends with Pathos (god of emotion), Litismós (goddess of culture), Sophia (goddess of thought); his best friend's sister, Porus (god of resourcefulness), Eikono (goddess of iconography & literature), Nomos (god of laws), Horkos (god of oaths), Kéfi (goddess of mirth), Aion (god of time, eternity, & the zodiacs), Aplistos (god of avarice), Dione, Momus (god of mockery, satire, & ridicule), Amphictyonis (Amy) (goddess of diplomacy), Hydros (god of water), several river gods including Achelous (god of freshwater), Priapus (god of fertility, vegetable gardens, livestock, sexuality, & masculinity), Rhapso (goddess of sewing), and Chiron (the immortal centaur).
As for his love life, Neicus is enjoying not being tied down in a relationship. A new development has been him & Rhapso getting more flirtatious and familiar with each other, including a situation that happened in her dressing room where Neicus gave her a foot massage after she was complaining about her stiletto heels. Despite finding her incredibly attractive, he hasn't made a real move for fear of ruining their friendship. Neicus shared a kiss with Apheleia (goddess of simplicity) at an induction ceremony & has dated Nymphe (goddess of self-care). He's currently seeing a theater actress, a mortal woman named Petroula Aetos.
His all time favorite food are king crab sushi rolls.
In his free time Neicus enjoys reading, writing, playing video games, football (soccer), swimming, golf, sunbathing, basketball, poker, tennis, bike riding, playing pool, and surfing.

The Ultimate Guide to Pet Care in Abu Dhabi: Tips and Tricks for Happy and Healthy Pets
Tumblr media
Abu Dhabi, the bustling capital of the United Arab Emirates, is a city known for its modern skyline, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality. Amidst the fast-paced lifestyle of this vibrant city, the love for pets has found a special place in the hearts of its residents. As responsible pet owners, it is crucial to provide our furry friends with the best care possible, ensuring their happiness and well-being. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore essential tips and tricks for pet care Abu Dhabi, focusing on cat grooming, including cat haircut services and mobile cat grooming options.
Understanding the Unique Pet Care Challenges in Abu Dhabi
Living in a desert climate like Abu Dhabi presents unique challenges for pet owners. The scorching heat can take a toll on our pets, making it essential to keep them cool, hydrated, and well-groomed. Dogs and cats, in particular, require special attention to maintain their fur and overall health.
1. Regular Grooming for Cats: Cat Haircut and Cat Grooming
Cats are meticulous groomers themselves, but they still benefit from regular professional grooming sessions. Cat grooming involves various tasks, such as brushing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and, in some cases, a cat haircut. Many pet owners opt for professional grooming services to ensure their cats' coats are kept clean, free of mats and well-maintained.
Cat Haircut: Cats, especially long-haired breeds, often require haircuts to prevent their fur from becoming tangled and matted. Regular cat haircuts not only improve their appearance but also contribute to their comfort and overall hygiene. Professional groomers in Abu Dhabi are skilled in providing cat haircut services tailored to your pet's specific needs.
Mobile Cat Grooming: Recognizing the busy lifestyles of Abu Dhabi residents, many grooming services now offer mobile cat grooming options. Mobile cat grooming brings the salon experience to your doorstep, eliminating the stress of travel for your feline friend. Professional groomers equipped with specialised tools and expertise ensure a stress-free grooming session in the comfort of your home.
2. Ensuring Proper Nutrition
A well-balanced diet is the foundation of your pet's health. Abu Dhabi offers a variety of pet food options, catering to different dietary requirements. Consult with a veterinarian to determine the ideal diet for your pet, taking into account factors such as age, breed, and any underlying health conditions. Additionally, provide access to clean, fresh water at all times to keep your pets well-hydrated, especially in the city's hot climate.
3. Regular Exercise and Mental Stimulation
For pets to maintain a healthy weight and general well-being, exercise is crucial. Dogs benefit from daily walks, while cats enjoy interactive toys and climbing structures that provide both physical activity and mental stimulation. Abu Dhabi offers numerous pet-friendly parks and designated areas where your pets can socialize, exercise, and have fun.
4. Veterinary Care and Vaccinations
Regular veterinary check-ups are crucial to monitor your pet's health and address any concerns promptly. Vaccinations play a vital role in preventing common diseases, ensuring your pet leads a long and healthy life. Abu Dhabi boasts a range of experienced veterinarians and pet clinics with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring your pets receive the best possible care.
5. Pet-Friendly Accommodations and Services
Abu Dhabi is home to several pet-friendly accommodations, ensuring that pet owners can enjoy a stress-free living experience with their beloved companions. From pet-friendly hotels to apartment complexes with designated pet areas, finding suitable housing options is convenient for pet owners in the city. Additionally, pet-related services, such as grooming salons, pet-sitting, and pet transportation services, are readily available to cater to your pet's specific needs.
6. Embracing the Pet-Friendly Community
Abu Dhabi boasts a vibrant and inclusive pet-friendly community where pet owners can connect, share experiences, and support one another. Engaging with fellow pet enthusiasts not only provides valuable insights into pet care but also fosters a sense of belonging for both you and your pet. Attend pet-related events, join online forums, and participate in social gatherings to strengthen your bond with your furry friend and fellow pet lovers.
7. Creating a Comfortable Living Environment
Ensuring your pet's living space is comfortable and safe is essential for their well-being. Cats, in particular, appreciate having cosy corners and elevated spots to observe their surroundings. Provide your feline friend with a designated scratching post to fulfil their instinct to scratch while saving your furniture. For both cats and dogs, consider creating a designated area with their bed, toys, and water bowl, allowing them to have a sense of ownership and security within your home.
8. Stress-Free Travel and Pet Transportation
Whether you need to visit the veterinarian or embark on a journey, ensuring stress-free travel for your pets is vital. Abu Dhabi offers pet transportation services that cater to the specific needs of animals. These services are equipped with pet-friendly vehicles, trained staff, and proper safety measures to make travelling with your pets a smooth experience. Additionally, acclimating your pets to carriers and car rides from a young age can significantly reduce their stress during travel.
9. Training and Socialization
Proper training and socialization are essential aspects of pet care, especially for dogs. Basic obedience training not only makes your dog well-behaved but also strengthens your bond with them. Socialization with other animals and people is equally crucial, as it helps prevent behavioural issues and ensures your pet is comfortable in various situations. Abu Dhabi offers dog training classes and pet-friendly parks where your canine companion can interact with other dogs, enhancing their social skills and overall happiness.
10. Emergency Preparedness
Being prepared for emergencies is a responsibility every pet owner should uphold. Create an emergency kit for your pets, including essential supplies such as food, water, medications, medical records, and a first aid kit. Identify nearby veterinary clinics and animal hospitals in Abu Dhabi and keep their contact information readily available. Additionally, make sure your pets are microchipped and have proper identification tags with your updated contact information, ensuring a swift reunion in case they get lost.
Conclusion
In Abu Dhabi, providing the best care for your pets involves a combination of love, attention, and access to high-quality services. From cat haircut to mobile cat grooming and comprehensive veterinary care, the city offers a range of options to ensure your pets are happy, healthy, and content. By understanding the unique challenges of pet care in a desert climate and embracing the pet-friendly community, you can create a fulfilling and enriching life for your beloved companions. Remember, a well-cared-for pet is a happy pet, and Abu Dhabi's pet-friendly environment makes it the ideal place to raise and cherish your furry friends.

The Gowanus neighborhood is located in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and is named after the Gowanus Creek, which flows through it. The area was originally a Dutch farming community, but became an industrial hub in the 19th century when its location near Manhattan made it convenient for shipping goods up and down the East Coast. Today, Gowanus is home to many artists and musicians who have been attracted by its low rents and proximity to Manhattan (about 15 minutes on foot or bike).
The neighborhood has also become known for its high concentration of hipster culture--there are many vintage clothing stores along Third Avenue here! If you're looking for something more traditional though, head over to nearby Cobble Hill where there's plenty more shopping options available including several upscale boutiques like Aesop Beauty Bar or Le Salon De Coiffure Parisienne & Spa where you can get your hair styled by trained professionals (and maybe even indulge with some cocktails afterward).

Brooklyn is a great place to live, and there are many neighborhoods to choose from. If you're looking for something quiet and family-friendly, we recommend Boerum Hill. If you want something more urban with lots of culture and nightlife options nearby, check out Gowanus or Prospect Heights. However, if affordability is important to you then maybe look into Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets!
