Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick
Tumblr media
Price: $38.00
Shade: Le Rouge
Claims: In just one stroke, luxurious and highly pigmented color dresses the lips with intense hydration and antioxidant care. In a signature couture jewel-like packaging, Rouge Pur Couture delivers the promise of edgy style and ultimate feminine strength.
Ingredients:
Octyldodecanol: An emollient and emulsifier and solvent. It is a clear, colorless liquid that is often seen as a thickener in moisturizers because of its lubricating and emollient properties. Helps to form emulsions and prevents formulas from separating into its oil and liquid components. It can also reduce the tendency of finished products to generate foam when shaken. Acts as a lubricant on the skin, giving a soft, silky feel.
Butyloctyl Salicylate: The simplest aromatic carboxylic acid. A colorless, crystalline solid naturally found mostly in berries and essential oils. Mainly acts as a PH adjuster and preservative, although it can also be used to add fragrance to a product.
Stearyl/Ppg-3 Myristyl Ether Dimer Dilinoleate: It is an emollient and skin conditioning agent.
Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate: Mixture of texture-enhancing ingredient neopentyl glycol and grape-derived fatty acid heptanoic acid. The compound functions as a non-aqueous skin-softening agent and thickener.
Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate: Non-aqueous ester that functions as a thickener and binding agent, derived from the ingredient isostearic acid.
Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2: A sticky paste, semi-solid emollient often used as a lanolin substitute. It's valued for its high water-binding properties, excellent adhesion to the skin and glossy finish.
Polyethylene: Form of plastic (synthetic polymer) that has numerous functions in cosmetics products. Rounded polyethylene beads serve as an abrasive agent in many facial scrubs, often used instead of overly abrasive alternatives like walnut shells and ground fruit pits. Also used as a stabilizer, binding agent, thickener, and film-forming agent.
Microcrystalline Wax: Plastic-type, highly refined wax derived from petroleum and purified for use in cosmetics. Used as a thickener and to give products a semi-solid to solid smooth texture.
Polybutene: A oligomeric oil, sometimes derived from petroleum, that is used in its hydrogenated form, as a binder, epilating agent, thickener and lubricant. It is naturally tacky or sticky and is also used for its adhesive properties.
Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides: A naturally derived emulsifier from glucose and vegetable oils, made of renewable vegetable sources. This skin-conditioning agent forms a barrier on the skin's surface to reduce water loss and softens skin.
Candelilla Wax: Used to protect the skin against moisture loss.
Titanium Dioxide: An earth mineral used in sunscreens that is capable of blocking both UVA and UVB rays; also used as a pigment.
Silica Dimethyl Silylate: A silica derivative used as an anti caking agent, bulking agent, slip modifier, viscosity increasing agent, emollient, and most often as a suspending agent. It is often found in cosmetics because of its ability to thicken while moisturizing, and provide long-lasting wear.
Tocopheryl Acetate: Its substantiated benefits include enhancing the efficacy of active sunscreen ingredients, reducing the formation of free radicals from exposure to UV rays, promoting the healing process, strengthening the skin's barrier function, protecting the skin barrier's lipid balance, and reducing transepidermal water loss. Attributed with antioxidant, anti-aging, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and enhanced SPF properties, tocopherol acetate is valued both as a dietary supplement and skincare active.
Caprylyl Glycol: Skin and hair conditioning agent that may be plant-derived or synthetic. Often used as part of a preservative blend in cosmetics.
Water: Primarily used as a solvent in cosmetics and personal care products in which it dissolves many of the ingredients that impart skin benefits, such as conditioning agents and cleansing agents. Water also forms emulsions in which the oil and water components of the product are combined to form creams and lotions.
Mannitol: A plant-derived or lab-made sugar that works in skin care to bind moisture, condition, and also help keep ingredients blended together. It works well with naturally-occurring substances in skin such as hyaluronic acid.
Acacia Senegal Gum: Herb that can have skin soothing properties, but is used primarily as a thickening agent.
Glyceryl Stearate: It acts as a lubricant on the skin’s surface, which gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance. It easily penetrates the skin and slows the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin’s surface. It has been shown to protect skin from free-radical damage as well. Used to stabilize products, decrease water evaporation, make products freeze-resistant, and keep them from forming surface crusts. Reduces the greasiness of oils used in certain cosmetics.
Lecithin: Phospholipid found in egg yolks and plants. Widely used in cosmetics as an emollient and water-binding agent. Also has skin-restoring ability.
Tocopherol: Used as an antioxidant and skin conditioner.
Ascorbyl Palmitate: Stable and nonacidic form of vitamin C that is effective as an antioxidant. Particularly effective at reducing environmental damage.
Butylene Glycol: Commonly-used ingredient that has multiple functions in cosmetics, including as a texture enhancer. It’s similar to propylene glycol, but has a lighter texture.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Extract: Provides moisturizing benefits to support natural skin restoration.
Yeast (Faex) Extract: Comprised of a complex mixture of proteins, sugars, and amino acids, it acts as an excellent humectant and supports natural cell turnover in the skin.
Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract: Also known as wild carrot. It can have antioxidant properties, but applied topically it can cause sensitivity.
Retinyl Palmitate: A form of vitamin A that is used to promote natural cell turnover, elasticity, and suppleness and minimize the appearance of fine lines.
Citric Acid: An alpha hydroxy acid and astringent with antioxidant properties; used to help skin maintain its natural pH level or adjust the pH of a product.
Mica: Earth mineral included in products to give them sparkle and shine. The level and look of the shine mica provides depends on the color and how finely it’s milled. Mica's sheer, translucent and skin-hugging properties make it a popular ingredient in mineral powders. Mica powder reflects light from the face because of its glittering or shimmering properties, and can create the illusion of a smoother, softer and more radiant skin tone.
Iron Oxide: Natural oxides of iron (iron combined with oxygen); pigments are used to enhance colors in cosmetics.
Titanium Dioxide: An earth mineral used in sunscreens that is capable of blocking both UVA and UVB rays; also used as a pigment.
Calcium Sodium Borosilicate: Use calcium sodium borosilicate as a bulking agent to give products structure.
Propylene Glycol Dibenzoate: Skin-Conditioning Agent
Ammonium Glycyrrhizate: This nourishing natural ingredient helps to keep your skin in a good condition.  Its soothing and moisture-retaining properties can make your skin look firmer and smoother.
My Thoughts: I was able to get a sample size of Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick from Sephora Rewards Bazaar. It came in the color Le Rouge which is a blood red shade. The lipstick comes in a beautiful square gold casing. The casing is mirrored, which was nice for touch ups when needed. Yves Saint Laurent does offer different designs for the golden casing but for an additional cost. For me plain gold is just fine, especially since Yves Saint Laurent is not cheap!
Le Rouge texture is thin and silky texture with a satin finish, which makes it glide on the lips smoothly. Most times I get an even coat in just one swipe with intense pigment. However on some cases when Le Rouge was too silky it would come out sheer and I would have to apply another coat. No matter how many coats I use my lips always feels comfortable and lightweight. I was very surprised the thin texture was able to pack my lips with an intense hydration. I notice if I didn’t wear a lip liner Le Rouge would bleed, with lip liner it did stop a bit but not all the way. The casing mirror came in handy a lot because I found that Le Rouge I would get some on my teeth, it helped so I didn’t have to rummage through my endless bag for a mirror. Luckily the lipstick easy to wipe off if it gets on my teeth. Without eating or drinking the lipstick would last me 4 hours, than fades to a stain. With drinking I would have to touch up every now and than because it does transfer a lot. When it came to eating it turned into a stain. Total removal of Le Rouge does require a makeup remover.
Would I purchase Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick? No its a little too messy for me with all the bleeding and transferring especially for the price point.
Pros:
Beautiful square mirrored gold casing
Mirrored part be used for touch ups
Thin & silky texture
Satin finish
Smooth application
One swipe has intense pigment
Comfortable & lightweight
Hydrating
Without eating and drinking last 4 hours
Fades to stain
Cons:
Designed casing cost additional
Sometimes its too silky and the pigment becomes sheer
Does tend to bleed even with lip liner
Gets on teeth
Transfers a lot
Have to use makeup remover to get it completely off
Expensive

I shop Sephora for myself and my daughters. Also, it's a great place to find gifts for birthdays. Most importantly, they ship; so, you don't have to worry about getting the gift to it's intended recipient. Currently, they're still running the free shipping offer with code FREESHIP. There's no minimum purchase to use it. Always check the sales and offers before you check out. You never want to miss out on something cool. This item goes in and out of stock on the rewards bazaar. I really love Bare Minerals products. I saved my points until it was available. There's really nothing I dislike about this set. My favorite products are the loose face powder and the lipstick.

So I collected my Sephora points and redeemed them for the Hourglass set and I received the Hourglass Surreal Light Ambient Edit Palette, a travel size primer, and a deluxe mascara sample. The palette was "limited edition" for the 2016 Holiday. I don't have it so I can't complaint but I wish I could exchanged my points and get a gift card instead!

8 of the Best Beauty Subscription Boxes
Hey guys welcome back to Slay My Glo.
Let’s be real every month you get a package with like 4 to 5 items that you wouldn’t regularly go out in the store and buy thats exciting!
and who doesn’t like a surprise every month and something to look forward to
I’ve grown so fond of subscription boxes I mean sometimes you do get items where you may never use them ever but it’s really enticing and really enjoyable to get a package in the mail every month it’s almost like Christmas every month.
So today I’m going to share with you 15 of my favorite ones that I am subscribed to.
Boxy Charm
Boxycharm is a subscription box where every month you get 4-5 full sized beauty and makeup products it ranges from skin care, makeup, hair care or just a combination of all of them based on the profile that you fill out and your preferences when you signed up initially. It is $21 USD a month. I personally think Boxy Charm is a really good company and I’ve been with them around a year and a half now so I’ve had tons of Boxy Charms.
Pros.
inexpensive
branded products
full-size
free shipping
Cons
You don’t know what you’re going to get in your box
there is no choice system
Long shipment times
Price $21/month
2. IPSY
For those who don’t know what IPSY is. It’s a beauty subscription box where you get a series of sample size products that cost around $10 US per month and these products range from skin care, make up to hair care the cutest thing about IPSY is there packaging and the little bags that you get per month.
IPSY was the first ever subscription box that I subscribe to you and this has been since grade 8. I was so excited to get my first box the packaging everything was just so cute.

You get a mix of make up hair skin care and fragrance samples all you have to do is fill out your profile it will let them  know about your beauty preferences then you get five monthly beauty  products based on the things that you customized in your preferences and  the good thing about Birchbox is that they have a loyalty system so you’ll get to buy the full-size products using the points that you  receive. Every $10 spent is $1 earned on the point system to redeem  for full size products.
Pros

4. FAB FIT FUN
I think Fab Fit Fun is probably one of the most advertised subscription box on the Internet right now.
It has been featured on magazines like Forbes inStyle Los Angeles Times and Real Simple. The value of each box is over $200 but that’s not the price you pay for it you pay $49.99 four times per year for at least 15 items in a box all customized to the way you like it.
They partner up with companies like Glam Glow, Luna Crown Cosmetics Skin&Co., Tarte, gypsy, bite and even pier 1 imports. I mean if You only get this box 4 times a year they have to make sure that they go all out.
Becoming a member gives you access to the Fab Fit Fun TV it’s a workout app and the ad content every season. Members also get access to members only sales where they get 30 to 70% off products from branded partners. They also do have a Fab Fit Fun community, it’s a big social group of members that are subscribed to the program ready to they share their tips the things that they like in their box and things that they don’t and much more.

5. Allure Beauty Box
As glamorous as it sounds allure does have a beauty subscription box. Of course you know you’ll get nothing but the best since they are a makeup and fashion magazine. New members get their first box for $10 other than that it’s $15 a month For 6 to 7 items valued at $100 or more. On top of that they have a beauty box for women and they have a beauty box for men as well.

Sephora is the leading beauty and makeup outlet throughout the world. That’s where we all get our Fenty beauty or Huda Beauty and my favourite, overpriced skin care and facemasks. Best of all Sephora does have a subscription box called Play! by Sephora each month you get five travel size samples all in a reusable recycle bag for just $10 a month they even reward you beauty points to be redeemed in store or online at the rewards bazaar.
pros
inexpensive

7.Glossybox
No Glossybox isn’t a subscription box with only lip scrubs and shiny rose scented lip glosses. Partnered with companies like Glam Glow and Pixi, Glossybox brings you five deluxe size beauty products for only $21 a month. Don’t worry if you’ve missed a month they also give you the option to buy previous months boxes and also gift glossy boxes.

Current Faves vol 4
Tumblr media
In my attempt of “staying on top of things” and “not letting the current faves pile up like the last post”, here’s a short list of my current go-to’s :
Dove Deodorant Spray White Tea and Apple ~ I saw the TV commercial for this new Dove deodorant and I thought it would not be available in Canada but I saw it in Walmart and even though I still have some, I really wanted to try this because I LOVE white tea scents. I absolutely love the scent of this deodorant as it’s not at all overpowering and it lasts long. It even lasts up until after my next-day gym sesh, and that’s telling something.
Coola Sunscreen ~ I got this from my FabFitFun subscription box over a year ago, and I know how bad I am for applying sunscreen on my face during off-Winter seasons that’s why this tub lasted me this long. I always take it with me during my vacations and use it everyday, and it makes my face look dewy and I can go on without makeup after application. And the real take away? WHITE TEA SCENT.
Sephora Nail Remover Wipes ~ this $5 item just made it in my Sephora cart just so I can have a free item, and it was a great decision. I am amazed by how well this nail remover wipes work- one tiny wipe is enough to remove nail polish in both hands and the toes, and it may even remove the hand and feet polish of the person next to you haha... it does not leave my nails and cuticles feeling dry after as well. I just purchased two more boxes during the VIB sale, and I don’t think I’ll go back to the bottled nail polish removers.
GlamGlow Thirsty Mud Mask ~ got a sample of this holy grail from my VIB rewards bazaar. It’s supposed to be a 2-3 times a week night mask but I use it every time I’m on night shift. It just leaves my skin SOOO soft throughout the drying 12-hour night shifts and it smells so nice and applies like butter. After shamelessly asking for samples on every Sephora I go to, I finally took the plunge and bought a full-size during the Sephora VIB sale event.
IGK Thirsty Girl Dry Shampoo ~ not really a rave (yet), but I just started using dry shampoos again. I used to use Batiste, and I can’t remember how I felt about it- so I decided to try something else based on a YouTube review I saw. I think this product works well for me for now anyway- however, I’m pretty sure there’s something out there that works just as effective for a cheaper price. I bought the mini size for now and will see how it is! It smells nice and has a cooling sensation to the scalp, and that’s what I like about it.
‘Love’ Aromatherapy Body Scrub ~ I know I have included the aromatherapy scrubs from Bath and Body Works in my current favourites before, but I just started using the Love scent and I am absolutely in-love with the scent. If you’ve tried the Roses by Chloe perfume before, this is exactly how it smells like. I only typically exfoliate my entire body about twice a week at most, but I always look forward to using this just because of the scent!

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
Tumblr media
Price: $23.00
Claims:  Smashbox's Full Exposure Mascara was inspired by a technique used at Smashbox Photo Studios L.A. - layering fiber mascara over volumizing mascara for major impact. The formula contains the natural properties of olive oil to keep lashes silky soft. A combination of synthetic and natural waxes gives you softer and flexible coverage and keeps lashes from becoming brittle.
Benefits:
Sweeps on big, glossy lashes
Adds natural-looking length and volume
Builds thickness without clumping, flaking, smudging or spider eyes
Large tapered brush grabs lash at root for extra coverage
Creates scene-stealing lashes from every angle
Cruelty-free
Formulated without parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, phthalates, oil, fragrance and talc.
Ingredients:
Water: Primarily used as a solvent in cosmetics and personal care products in which it dissolves many of the ingredients that impart skin benefits, such as conditioning agents and cleansing agents.
Stearic Acid: Fatty acid used as an emollient and emulsifier. It has been shown to protect skin's surface against water loss and help shore up skin's protective barrier.
Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax: The hardest of all commercial vegetable waxes, this tough and amorphous ingredient has a variety of functions, such as increasing a solution's viscosity, imparting emollience and preventing the oil and water parts of an emulsion from separating.
Polyisobutene: A synthetic oil that is used as a mineral oil substitute. It is an  emollient & moisturizer, and prevents water loss. It's used for pigment dispersion.
Polyvinyl Acetate: Helps keep emulsions from separating into their oil and water components. It also acts as a binder to hold together the ingredients.
Glyceryl Stearate: It acts as a lubricant. It easily penetrates the skin and slows the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin’s surface. It has been shown to protect skin from free-radical damage as well.
Paraffin: Waxy, petroleum-based substance used as a thickener.
Silica: An earth mineral, used to condition.
Aminomethyl Propanediol: Used to adjust pH in cosmetics.
Isostearic Acid: It is used to thicken most formulas as a binder and emulsifier.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP): A binder, emulsion stabilizer and film former.
Hydrogenated Olive Oil: Antioxidant-rich, emollient oil; helps fight damage caused by free radicals to protect, condition, and seal moisture.
Cholesterol: It works as a skin conditioner, thickening agent, stabilizer and water binding agent. Helps maintain proper functioning in the epidermis by retaining moisture levels and regulating cell activity. It works to strengthen the outer structure of the skin and protect it from dehydration. It also keeps the water and oil parts of an emulsion from separating and controls the viscosity.
Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Member of the B complex family of vitamins. A moisturizing humectant and emollient. primarily as a lubricant, emollient and moisturizer because of its ability to bind to the hair and penetrate the skin, providing both with lubrication and hydration.
Pantethine: Used as an emollient.
Kaolin: A fine white clay powder; used to absorb water and oil secreted by the skin, including excess sebum.
Nylon-6: A bulking and opacifying agent.
Laureth-4: Used either as a cleansing agent or texture enhancer.
Hydroxyethylcellulose: Used as a preservative, emulsifier, binder and thickener.
VP / Eicosene Copolymer: Film-forming agent.
Simethicone: An anti-foaming agent.
Sodium Polyacrylate: A thickener.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE): Used as a bulking agent, slip modifier, binding agent and skin conditioner.
Caprylyl Glycol: A humectant and skin conditioning agent that lends moisturization, emollience and wetting properties to many cosmetic solutions. It also function as a stabilizer and has been shown to increase the antimicrobial activity of other preservatives.
Hexylene Glycol: A preservative and solvent. It is used to thin out heavy compositions and create a thinner, more spreadable product.
Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate: A preservative.
Polyaminopropyl Biguanide: A disinfectant and a preservative used for disinfection on skin. It is also not irritating like more traditional disinfectants.
Chlorphenesin: It's used as a preservative because of its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. As a preservative, it prevents various products from running into issues such as such as viscosity changes, pH changes, emulsion breakdown, visible microorganism growth, color changes and disagreeable odor formation.
Phenoxyethanol: A preservative. It is also seen as a fragrance additive, a fixative for perfumes, an insect repellent ingredient.

Mica: A light-diffusing earth mineral; used as a pigment.
Titanium Dioxide: An earth mineral used in sunscreens that is capable of blocking both UVA and UVB rays; also used as a pigment.
Iron Oxides: Pigments are used to enhance colors.
Bismuth Oxychloride: Functions as a colorant, adding a white pigment. It provides good slip, a silky feel and an excellent dermal adhesion that enables makeup to stay on the skin for long periods of time.
Tumblr media
My Thoughts: I received Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara from my Sephora Beauty Insider Rewards Bazaar. It came in a standard black mascara tube but in a sample size. I was surprised when I opened it and saw the wand. Its an old school wand that was tapered but huge! It was intimidating on the first few uses, but I eventually got use too it. I can see with someone who has smaller eyes it would be hard to maneuver the wand. The tapered end does help tremendously with the inner corners and the lower lash. The brush also contains a lot of thick natural bristles.
With application I found the mascara does flake a bit, but it does not flake when the formula has dried. Application also takes forever because it takes me 5 minutes on just one lash. I have to layer it a ton because the brush adds a little by little each time. The formula is not too wet. And it doesn’t help the formula dries super fast. I have work quickly because once the formula dries I can’t build it up. If I try to build it up after the formula dries, I end up with clumping.
Whether I build it up for hours, I still won’t get that false lash look with this mascara. Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara separates and enhances my natural lashes but doesn’t create any more volume. Its incredibly light even when it holds a curl. Its ideal to use with false lashes because it blends in seamlessly since it only enhances my natural lashes. The pigment is jet black, any mistake I make with it becomes hard to remove, and I make a lot of mistakes since the wand is so big. Removing the mascara can be difficult especially if I layer it on. With wipes its extremely difficult, once I think it is completely off, the next morning I wake up with raccoon eyes. Its best to remove with makeup oil, it takes a matter of seconds and then I am left with clean lashes.
Would I purchase this again? Most likely not, it didn’t wow me at all and the results weren’t that great. Not to mention the application is a grueling process.
Tumblr media
Pros:
Tapered wand
Tapered helps with small areas
Contains thick natural bristles
No flaking when dries
Separates & enhances natural lashes
Lightweight
Holds curl
Seamlessly blends with false lashes
Jet black
Best to remove with makeup oil
Cons:
Overly lage wand
Takes time to get use too
Can be hard to maneuver
Flakes on application
Dispenses little product at a time
Application process time consuming
Dries too quickly
Can’t build up when dried
Build when dry causes clumping
No false lash look
Doesn’t create volume
Mistakes are hard to remove
Can’t fully remove with makeup wipe

You Can Now Turn Your Sephora Beauty Insider Points Into Charity Donations
Earlier this year, Sephora announced a brand new update to its Beauty Insider program and now, the beauty giant is going one step further by adding a charity donation component to its rewards program.
From today, customers can redeem their points in the Sephora Beauty Insider Rewards Bazaar for a donation to the featured Canadian charity of the month. The charities will change on a monthly basis. For the month of August, donations can be made to the Black Solidarity Fund which is operated by CanadaHelps.org. According to a release, “this is a national fund that represents over 50 Canadian registered charities, focused on the advancement of Black Canadians.” Sephora Canada has previously donated $50,000 to the fund.
So how does it work? Canadian customers can now exchange 500 points for a $10 donation, 1,000 points for a $20 donation or 1,500 points for a $30 donation.
Sephora says the new addition to the rewards program is part of its “continued commitment to driving meaningful change to foster a more diverse, inclusive, and empowered community.” Back in June, the company became the first major retailer to take Canadian designer Aurora James’ 15 Per Cent Pledge, promising to donate 15 per cent of its shelf space to Black-owned beauty brands.
It’s the second major addition to the rewards program, alongside the ability for customers to exchange 500 points for a $10 voucher that is redeemable against their next purchase under the Beauty Insider Cash option. Other new additions to the program include updated shipping options for VIBs and Insider members, as well as new birthday gift offerings.

7 Event Ideas to Try in Your Retail Store
https://120profit.com/?p=2228&utm_source=SocialAutoPoster&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Tumblr Never underestimate the power of communities, particularly in today’s retail landscape. In an age when shoppers can buy what they need with a click or tap of a button, brick-and-mortar retailers need to work extra hard to drive foot traffic and engage consumers. One of the best ways to do this is to cultivate human relationships through community-building and events. When implemented correctly, in-store events and activities give people a compelling reason to head to your store. And if you play your cards right, those visits could lead to higher brand awareness, customer loyalty, and ultimately, more sales. So, what kinds of events should you run? Like with most questions, the answer to that is it depends. A number of factors will come into play when deciding what type of event to set up and how to do it. These include: Shared interests – What are the common hobbies or activities that your customers like to engage in? What do they want to learn about? Identifying these things will help you figure out the theme and structure of your event. Location – Are your audiences centered in specific locales or are they spread out? If everyone lives in a particular area — say your store’s neighborhood — then it makes sense to hold it in your location. If not, then you can work on finding another venue or implementing a virtual event. Demographics – Which age groups do your customers fall into? What’s their profession, income, educational level, gender, etc? The answers to these questions will help you decide on the nature of your event. It also helps to get inspiration from retailers that are doing an excellent job with their events. Here are a few to get you started: 1. Hold a class Quench your customers’ thirst for knowledge by holding classes so they can pick up new knowledge and skills. It’s a great way to bring people together in your store, and depending on the class, you can even use it as an opportunity to showcase what your products can do. If you’re a winery, for example, you can hold wine tasting classes in your store. Running a craft store? Throw in some DIY classes in your events calendar. Sephora is a master at in-store classes. The cosmetics retailer regularly holds various makeup classes in many of its locations. Topics vary from makeup techniques to skincare, and more. The classes are extremely high-touch. The instructors and in-store associate handpick products based on each student’s skin type and needs, and everyone gets their own makeup station where they can apply products. There’s absolutely no pressure to purchase the products that you used in the class, so the atmosphere is really comfortable. Once the class is done, the associates distribute product samples and send people on their way. Sephora also has a great follow-up practice. A few days after the class they email you a note from your instructors, along with an invitation to purchase the products you used in the class. 2. Put together a runway show This even type works best for apparel and accessories. If you’re bringing in fresh merchandise or launching a new product line, why not hold a runway show to showcase your items? Bring in some models or better yet, ask your customers to participate. That’s what Justice, an apparel store for girls and tweens did last year. In honor of the back-to-school season in 2018, Justice ran fashion shows in several of its stores, giving girls the opportunity to strut their stuff while sporting their back-to-school looks. To kick off Back-to-School season, Justice held “We Are Justice” Fashion Shows at every Justice store nationwide. The next time you want to showcase your new or seasonal items, consider letting your customers model those outfits for your brand. 3. Celebrate a product launch with a sale and in-store services Another cool way to unveil a new product or partnership is to celebrate its launch — literally. Pop some champagne, decorate your store, and get in a festive mood. You can even hold a sale while you’re at it! Birchbox’s SoHo location did just that in January of 2018 when they launched VERB Haircare. They held free hairstyling sessions in-store, ran a promotion, and served drinks to guests. This is a great initiative if you’re looking to showcase new products that can’t really be modeled on the runway. If you’re selling these types of products, show them off through services and samples in-store. 4. Hold offsite events Retail events don’t always have to take place inside your store. If you have a lot of people attending or if you’re in the sports and outdoors niche, then it makes more sense to promote activities outside your location. Pace Athletic, an Aussie retailer specializing in running footwear and gear, does a great job at this. Pace created the “Pace Run Club,” where members go out together and participate in running events in different parts of Australia. In addition to strengthening their community, these events also fueled the growth of their business. “Pace Run Clubs are moving advertisements for our brand,” said Will Hatton, the co-owner of Pace Athletic. Will said that he and co-founder invested in professional photography during these events, and doing so improved their growth even more. The professional photos also gave Will and Stuart high-quality content for Facebook and Instagram, which increased social media engagement. “We find that folks tag themselves and reshare our photos a lot more after we started doing professional photography,” said Will. “As our social media numbers trended up, we also saw more folks joining our weekly runs which was great!” One of the best takeaways from Pace Athletic’s story is that community-centric activities and events can also help your marketing. So if you’re looking for ways to bring people together  — while putting your brand out there at the same time — running the right event could help you achieve that goal. 5. Set up a “pop-in” shop If you have a large store, then having temporary “pop-in” shops could spruce up your location. Think of them as pop-up events, but ones that take place inside your store. You could come up with a specific theme and create your pop-in shop (or “store within a store”) in your location. For best results, partner with another brand or vendor to make it happen. That was the case with swimwear brand Segara. Last year, Segara partnered with Cuyana, a California-based retailer that sells women’s essentials, to hold pop-in events in their location. See if you can do something similar. If you’re looking to spice things in your store, find a brand that aligns with your values, put together a pop-in event, and co-market it for maximum impact. 6. Invite an expert Educational events don’t always have to take the form of classes. Expert talks and commentaries can also do the trick. If you’re connected to experts or influencers in your niche, invite them to share their knowledge with your community. Travel and lifestyle brand Away implemented this recently when they brought in experts in their stores to talk about ancient divination practices. What about you? Who can you invite to speak to your community? Connect with them and invite them to your store. 7. Hold a meet-and-greet If you have relationships with the authors, artists, or designers behind your merchandise, try getting them into your location for a meet-and-greet. This works particularly when they’re launching a new product — i.e., book, fashion line, project etc. Get in though with that author or artist (or their publicist) and see if they’d be willing to come in. For example, when Liane Moriarty published her book, Nine Perfect Strangers, in 2018, she went on a book tour where she headed to various bookstores to talk about her new book and sign copies. You could also use meet-and-greets (or almost any event type, for that matter) as perks for your best customers. For example, when Saks Fifth Avenue ran its Saks IT List Townhouse for New York Fashion Week, they had a special meet-and-greet opportunity with Harper’s Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey and fashion designer Jeremy Scott. The opportunity was extended exclusively to American Express platinum cardholders and SaksFirst card members, so it also serves as a way for Saks to reward its cardholders (and those of American Express).
