I was lucky enough to visit Hokkaido for a few days, so of course I had to go look at some Golden Kamuy related places!
1. Hokkaido Kaitaku village is a big outdoor museum that archives old historical buildings, many of which appear in GK. So many, in fact, that the museum handed me a map where they list the buildings that appear in the manga and it was most of them.
The church in which Tsurumi confronts Asirpa
The photography studio
Herring fishermen's communal lodge
The infamous otter hotpot location👀
I even saw two cosplayers dressed up as Inkarmat and Suenaga doing a photoshoot together in an old clinic!
I couldn't not buy a box of GK Tsukisappu Anpan too.
2. The old Sapporo Beer factory
A lot went down here...
3. I went to an Ainu cuisine restaurant. I had a bear meat hotpot, deer meat skewers, tonoto (Ainu wine made from millet), ento herb tea, among other things. They were all amazing.
They had copies of GK volumes as well. I miss you Kiroranke.
4. I soaked up in an onsen at Noboribetsu.
The beautiful sulfuric Hell Valley at Noboribetsu.
Here I went to the Noboribetsu Bear Park and saw many Ezo Higuma bears. The males are so big, and while they are cute they would be utterly terrifying to encounter in the wild.
The park also had exhibits showing Ainu living spaces, tools, clothing, and explanations about the Iomante bear ritual which were really interesting.
This was my first time in Hokkaido and it was an amazing experience. I only had a few days so I only saw Sapporo, Otaru, and Noboribetsu. I really wanted to see Abashiri prison but Hokkaido is a big island and I wasn't able to this time, but I aspire to go one day!

Bus station
Thousands of people meet and clash in the stations. If you stop to observe them for a moment, they are physically present, but a moment later they vanish to be replaced by other people passing by.
Stations are timeless places, where everything exists only in the precise moment we are looking at it.

Sapporo TV Tower has a mascot character called TV Dad, the name is a play on the Japanese words for ”Tower” and ”Dad.” You can spot this mascot's distinctive mustachioed face in several locations inside the TV Tower such as on the tables and chairs in the TV Dad Funpark, as well as in the TV Dad Shrine

A true #Kaiseki #Omakase & #Whisky Appreciation Dinner with a top Kaiseki chef who hails from #Sapporo #Hokkaido #Japan and superbly paired with top-notch cutting edge whiskies from the Nagano and Kagoshima region consisting of #iwai #mars Manzanilla single malt Komagatake and single malt Tsunuki - astonishingly smooth and awesome! Considered the epitome of Japanese cuisine, Chef Saitoh-san, uses his Kaiseki and Omasake technique to showcase his title as the grand master of Japanese cuisine, and he came to Singapore, out of his own desire, to share the appeals of traditional Japanese cuisine, which is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Saitoh-san uses his professional experience and discerning eye to procure only the finest ingredients. This ability is vital in Japanese cuisine where much emphasis is placed on seasonality and the ability to bring out the best of every ingredient. Seasonal fruits and vegetables that are usually not easily obtained, as well as fish and meat of the highest quality, are procured from all over Japan. The Tasting Panel were thoroughly spoilt with an 8-course menu which was well curated with the 4 distinct whiskys on-taste at each tier within the degustation. My personal favorites were the sashimi - whiskey aburi snapper, scallop and botan shrimp… temaki hand roll, charcoal grilled kurobuta black pork infused with whiskey… and the chuturo sushi.. i like the way how the appetizer was being assembled in a kaiseki-formatted provision and the motivation behind the chef’s hand whipped matcha.. truly one of the best whiskey pairing dinners I have ever had.. @sushi.sei.sg @rosettemedia @rosett_asia The quality was impeccable, the ingredients super fresh, and sashimi well-structured.. my media rating is at 9/10, much higher than most omakases that i have tasted at well known establishments in Asia, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh and Singapore. . . #love #instagood #fashion #beautiful #happy #art #photography #style #travel #life #cute #hiso #luxury #lifestyle #SGLifestyle #like4like #photooftheday #picoftheday #instamood #ooishi (at Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpCaIIju92m/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What's one place you'd like to travel that wouldn't be considered a typical tourist destination?
I’ve been racking my brain on this one—maybe Hokkaido? I’d love to see the surviving Meiji era architecture in some of the smaller cities like Hakodate and Otaru, and Sapporo would be a neat city to visit in general.

Aug 22: Leaving For Home
The third lonely morning brought a fresh face
to fill the empty pool of a strange place
our year in Sapporo was an unexpected blur
of friendship that time has yet to erase
Dancing all night in a Susukino basement;
a globe's worth of guests for a Thanksgiving event;
Pushim and Utada too loud in our dorms
Then out for more drinks and another descent
The very first cell phones, to call folks back home on -
just texting the fourth floor from down in the genkan,
too lazy to take of our bulky snow boots -
"cheers!" in five languages was part of our lexicon
Now singing power ballads down the dark highways
new memories added to our preserved bouquets
Sunshine and chatting after decades apart
I cherished my friend for these few glorious days.

Photo of the Day: Stoned
This is Ishiyama Greenspace in Sapporo. It is built at an old rock quarry in Minami-ku.
The stone from the quarry helped build a lot of Sapporo, but it fell out of use. Someone had the bright idea of building a park using the dramatic landscape of the quarry as a backdrop. It is close to the Art Forest, which I also love so it makes a good day trip.
If you enjoyed this photo please take a look…
