A Gun Amongst Daggers - Jake “Hangman” Seresin X Fem!Navy Seal Reader
Part 12: I’m Not Ready to Die
Summary: When Jake meets a woman at the Hard Deck, the last thing he expects is for her to be a Navy Seal. And not just any Seal, the Commander of Seal Team 3. She’s beautiful, smart, dangerous, and everything about her just makes him want to get close. Her name? Bear. When the Seals need backup, Cyclone puts the Daggers on their radar and now, Jake has to work with Bear and her team, all the while trying to stay professional. Can he do it? Or will he end up falling for the Navy sniper and mission Commander?

Jake watched as Bear climbed into the last helicopter, his heart pounding. From what little he knew, Bear and the others were walking into a compound that was fortified like Fort Knox and there was nothing he or anyone else could do to help. For some reason, he was unsure and if there was one thing his friends could say about him, they would tell you all about his self-assuredness and how nothing ever seemed to get the better of him. But today was different.
He and the Daggers stood together, watching as the Blackhawks took off through the darkening sky toward the desert. “Does anyone else have a weird feeling?” Fanboy asked as the last helicopter disappeared into the night.
He was quickly shoved by Payback. “Don’t say that. You’ll jinx it. The Seals have it under control.”
“They do.” Maverick took that moment to rally his squadron. The older man took a deep breath before speaking. “Alpha team, Hangman, Phoenix, Bob, Coyote, Halo and Omaha, get ready. You need to be airborne soon. Beta team, ready yourselves. You are in for a longer wait.”
The pilots nodded, breaking off into their teams. Bob had held back, drawing a confused look from Phoenix, who stopped and gave her WSO a funny look before continuing on. “How are you holding up?” Bob asked, looking over at Jake.
Jake just gave him a funny look. “What do you mean? I’m fine.” Internally however, he was panicking just a little. He knew that it would be a quick hop there and back. No acrobatics or evasive maneuvers needed. But there was still something about this mission that had him on edge. He’d heard a few of the Seals saying something about a friend in the compound, which didn’t make sense to him. As far as he knew, Flare and Fireball had the intel, not Hazard. Well, who he thought was Hazard.
Bob’s eyes narrowed behind his glasses. “Sure. And I’m Santa Claus,” he said sarcastically. “You aren’t hiding anything. You care about Bear and now you’re worried about her. Am I right or am I right?” He’d cut Jake off, forcing the other man to stop in his tracks.
“You’re wrong,” Jake snapped, pushing past the WSO and headed across the tarmac to his plane.
“No. I’m not. You can’t fool me, Hangman. I know what longing looks like.”
Jake spun around, his green eyes full of frustration and anger. “I don’t care if you know what it looks like, that’s not what’s happening here. There is nothing happening,” he snapped.
Bob just smiled wryly. “If that were the case, you wouldn’t have bitten my head off just now. Look, I don’t care. But whatever this is,” the WSO waved his hand around vaguely in Jake’s direction, “Figure it out. You can’t afford to be reckless on a mission like this. I won’t have you putting Nat in danger because of your girl problems.”
Hangman rolled his eyes. “Sure. Whatever.” And he turned back around, storming off towards his plane.
The bespectacled WSO shook his head. This wasn’t going to end well. Not with Jake unable to control his anger. Whatever was or wasn’t happening between him and Bear was Jake’s business, but it left the other man with a blind spot the size of the Commander they had met weeks before. He sighed, hurrying in the direction of his plane, ignoring the curious look on Natasha’s face as he climbed in behind her. “Watch out for Bagman. He’s in a mood,” Bob warned his pilot.
“Any idea why?” Phoenix asked, turning to look behind her. “He was fine earlier.”
Bob shook his head. “Not sure. He wouldn’t tell me, but if I had to guess, I’d say that a certain friend of ours left an impression on him.”
“Damn.”
“Yeah.”
A little ways off, Jake sat in his plane, staring holes into his control panel. Fuck Bob for knowing what was going on. Fuck this whole situation. In fact, fuck him for not realizing just how far he’d fallen for Bear and for not realizing how compromised he would be. “Fuck!” He yelled, slamming his hand against the window in anger. He couldn’t let her distract him. He knew for a fact that she wasn’t distracted by him at all right now. Jake scrubbed a hand over his face, blowing out a deep breath. Calm. He could be calm. “No one would know the difference. How could they?” He thought.
Maverick’s voice sounded through the headset. “Bear has a timeline. T-minus 25 minutes or thereabouts. We need to be airborne before she gives us the signal. Hangman, Coyote, are you ready?”
“Yes Mav.”
“Copy.”
Maverick nodded to himself. “Phoenix, Bob?”
“Ready to go, Mav,” Phoenix replied.
“Halo and I are ready too, Mav,” Omaha said as he double-checked a few switches in the back.
“Copy that. Wait for the signal from ground control, fly safe,” Maverick told them, watching from the command tower. He and Bear had agreed that he should remain behind on this hop. There was no reason for him to be airborne unless an emergency happened, but Beta team was still hanging back on base and could be deployed in seconds, so it really didn’t matter in the end.
“Alpha team taxiing,” he said, switching channels to speak directly to Bear. He heard her affirmation before switching back over to his team. “Go get them.”
That was all the pilots heard before the command tower gave the signal and off went the four aircraft. They swiftly entered formation, flying low enough to avoid radar, allowing the aircraft to glide through the night sky straight towards their target that lay enshrouded in darkness 366 kilometers outside of the Riyadh air base.
They could just make out the compound from the air when Bear’s voice crackled through the comms system. “Alpha squadron how copy?”
“Copy Phoenix.”
“Copy Coyote.”
“Copy Omaha.”
Jake swallowed the lump in his throat before replying “Copy Hangman.”
Bear was clearly only listening for the first reply, because she nearly cut Jake off halfway through in her need for information. “Location status, Phoenix.”
Jake looked down at his own screens, ready to reply. He just wanted any last bit of communication with Bear that he could get. But as he glanced down, he noticed a small light blinking in the corner of his vision, diverting his attention away from what Phoenix was saying.
Something wasn’t right. But as he opened his mouth to say this, Bear’s drop command cut him off before the words had even left his throat. “Alpha squadron. Banshee. Banshee.”
“Copy,” Phoenix replied before taking off through the sky. Only minutes later, the first bomb was dropped from her plane, hurtling towards the compound below. Coyote and Omaha followed suit, their own bombs finding homes in different corners of the compound, as Jake flew in to drop his own. The pilots swung around, the last few bombs raining down on the compound and they watched the flames spiral up and up into the night sky.
There were some words exchanged between the Seals down below that echoed through his headset, but Jake barely heard a word that was said. He was too deep in his own mind to even think about what was happening on the ground and he wasn’t sure he wanted to know.
“Mav just radioed in. Watch the ground for any mobilization. The recon teams have any stragglers but he wants us to take out a few ground patrols before we head back to reload,” Phoenix spoke in his ear.
He nodded before remembering that she couldn’t see him. “Got it, Nix. I have eyes on a few.” And he did, just below him, a few wounded were piling themselves into vehicles with the intent on driving to the other compound not even a click away. He wasn’t going to let that happen to Bear or Fireball or any of them, so without a second thought, he opened fire on the truck, watching the explosion seconds later.
He heard Coyote on his wing taking out another truck, before he swerved away, yelling something about guns on the ground. Jake followed suit, weaving out of range and rejoining Halo and Omaha a little ways off. “I only saw the one,” he told them gruffly. “Not sure how many other vehicles will be mobilizing, but I think we got the more important shit.”
“Same here,” Halo replied, checking her controls before calling out to Phoenix and Coyote. It had been ten minutes since the original breach by the Seals and after a quick radio into Maverick, they took off back across the desert to reload their weapons for one final run.
===
Jake was the last one to touch down and he was up and out of the cockpit in a flash. He knew something was wrong with his plane, what it was, he didn’t yet know, but something wasn’t right. “Where are you?” He muttered, stepping under the aircraft to inspect the underside.
“You good?”
Shit. It was Rooster. No doubt Bob or Nix had told him and now the biggest pain in his ass was standing in front of him.
“Peachy,” he snapped. He was sick of people asking if he was okay. He wasn’t, but that was hardly the point. All Jake wanted was to fly the last leg of this mission, meet up with Bear, and go home where they could finally act on their feelings for one another.
Rooster raised an eyebrow. “It certainly doesn’t look like it.”
“You know what?” Jake spat, whipping around to glare at the man in front of him. “Fuck off. Everything is fine, so stop asking. You can tell that to anyone else too.”
Rooster nodded, chewing on his lip. “Look. I’m gonna say this once, and then Mav is going to get involved. Sort yourself out. Clearly being on this mission with Bear is clouding some part of your judgment,” Bradley said in a quiet voice. “I don’t want you to get benched because she’s got your panties in a twist. Take a walk and come back or let someone else fill in for you because someone is going to get killed.”
Jake just shook his head in disbelief. “Whatever man. It’s fine. Something about this whole thing doesn’t feel right and I can’t be the only one who’s noticed.”
“You aren’t. But this isn’t a Navy base. We can’t just go accusing people of things,” Rooster reasoned. Now that he actually thought about it, Hangman was right. He thought back to the group of Seals he’d overheard earlier talking about their plan. Something didn’t feel right to him either. “Take a breath, get your head on straight, and get back up there. Maybe Bear’ll give you a kiss if you’re good.”
“Fine. But keep an eye on things down here. I don’t like being around this many chair force pilots, they make me itchy,” Jake told him, his anger slowly dissipating.
“You and me both, man.”
Jake snorted. “I’ll watch out for them up top too. Can’t deal with Nix’s girl if she gets hurt.”
“Deal.” Bradley gave him one last nod, before walking back across the tarmac towards his own plane, leaving Jake to try and find the problem on his own.
Unfortunately for Jake, he saw Bob and Phoenix climb back into their seats, opening up the spot for him to reload his bombs. “Fuck,” he swore, racing to clamber up into his seat and taxi his jet over to the end of tarmac where Bob and Phoenix had been moments ago.
Moments later, he was ready to head back out but that little blinking light kept flashing and as of now, he still had no idea what was causing it. But that was a problem for later, right now all he could do was just fly the mission. He listened to the command tower okay him for take off, so that’s what he did.
Despite what he’d tell Rooster, the chat actually helped him. It gave him another point to focus on, and he couldn’t get the other man’s words about Bear out of his head. “Maybe Bear’ll give you a kiss if you’re good.” God he hoped so. But for now, he took off after Coyote, flying back in the direction they had just come from.
The flight passed quickly and Jake kept thinking about the image of Bear he had from earlier that day. She was standing under his plane, a teasing grin on her face as she bugged him while he did his checks. He could almost feel the warmth of her gaze on him, burning him wherever it stopped, and the mere thought of seeing that look in her eyes again had him grinning under his mask. Only a few more minutes until he’d be back on base. A few more hours until he’d see Bear again, dressed in her tactical gear that had given him pause when he’d seen her in it for the first time back in North Island. Somehow she made it look like a million bucks. The ease in which she wore it made him smile, and he now knew how good those pants made her ass look, which was a definite plus.
Thinking of her was enough to bring him out of his funk. His head felt clearer than it had since before he took off the first time, and he felt sharper. Hell, he’d even go as far as saying he felt invincible. It was like nothing could touch him.
He was almost at the compound when his aircraft started behaving erratically. It would jerk up every few seconds, and while it stayed up in the air, it diverted a lot of his attention to figuring out what the hell was happening. It was also at this moment when Bear’s voice filled his headset, nearly making him groan at her timing.
“Flyboy, what’s your ETA to target?“ Bear asked.
“Not too long now, Bear. About 45 seconds to drop.” Jake’s voice was tight, the words bitten off as he tried to focus on keeping himself airborne.
Another bit of static filled his ears before Bear spoke again. “Are you okay up there?”
“Just peachy, Teddy. A couple of lights are flashin’ but it’s nothin’ I can’t handle,” he replied distractedly as Jake flipped yet another switch, trying to figure out the problem. “Fucking hell, what is happening?” he mumbled under his breath. Jake’s hands were shaking, from adrenaline or fear, he didn’t know. But it was definitely making his job just that much more difficult right this minute.
Coyote was the next to respond. “Anything we can do to help?” He glanced back at his wingman and started to slow down. He wasn’t about to abandon his friend with no warning.
Jake watched Coyote begin to drop back, and shook his head. “Just keep going. I’ll be there soon,” he told his friend. “Just give me a few min-” he cut himself off. Jake had just glanced down at his controls once again when a sudden burst of light and noise erupted from the ground below. Jake’s eyes widened and he went to swerve to the left, trying desperately to avoid whatever it was that was incoming, but to no avail. He wasn’t getting out of this. His heart sank, knowing that this was it. Whatever it was that was incoming would be his end and he was scared. Despite everything he displayed, Jake was afraid of death. Downright terrified of leaving his friends and family behind, so he closed his eyes. Just for a moment against the burst of fear that shattered every bit of resolve he had left.
He saw his team, his family, the highlights from deployments flash before his eyes, a slideshow of his best memories playing one last time. And closing out the show was Bear. The only woman that he could say for certain he’d ever truly loved aside from his mom. Every moment spent with her was like a balm to the bruised pieces of his heart. She had made him believe in love, and now, he wouldn’t see her wide smile again. He wouldn’t feel her gentle touch or hear her laugh. So for once in his life, he let the tears fall as his plane burst into flames.
He’d barely had enough thought to try and eject. But he did. And when the pieces of his jet rained down on the sand, Jake sent out a prayer. A prayer that someone would find him. That Bear would find him.
Jake crumpled to the desert below. Around him, lay the wreckage of his faithful F-18, and goddamn if that wasn’t enough to make him cry. But he had other priorities now. Fuck the wreckage and the plane that was lost, Jake had to find shelter because whatever that shot him down was going to come for him once they saw the parachute deploy. “Fucking Saudi Arabia,” he growled as he went to stand but found he couldn’t when a blinding pain shot up his leg, nearly making him pass out.
Glancing down, he saw a large piece of his control panel embedded in his thigh, blood seeping out around it. That piece of metal was likely the only thing keeping him alive right now, so he knew that no matter what, he had to try to move and not dislodge the shrapnel. “Clearly someone decided that it was ‘fuck up Jake’s life day!’ Well fuck whoever that was!” He yelled into the darkness, growling as he unhooked his harness, and began to hobble across the sand in the direction of some of the larger pieces of his plane.
It felt like hours. Each step sent a near blinding pain up through his entire body and he found himself desperately trying to keep himself from vomiting or passing out. He was wandering in a haze of pain that undercut every movement he made. Even breathing hurt. But he kept going. Through the pain and despite the blood rolling down his leg into his boot. He would keep going if it meant getting to see Bear again.
It took a long time, but eventually he reached the fragmented body of his plane and Jake sobbed in relief. The emotion caught in his throat as he stumbled another step forward, collapsing on his side near one of the larger pieces. “I’ll just take a break,” Jake thought to himself. “I can take a rest.”
But his green eyes fluttered shut, his body giving out as he finally passed out from the pain and exhaustion, completely unaware of the advancing enemy.

Holi-days nine; The True Meaning
I didn’t forget about this while I was working on replacing the floor in my room. Last fic from me for this year, hope to see everyone next year! With hopefully some more interaction because I don’t love writing for ghosts y’all
Pairing: PLATONIC Nico, Will and Percy x gn!reader
Words: ~0.9k
Warnings: No, perhaps a Twilight reference
-Asnyox
<- prev - mlist - next ->
As the winter break was slowly coming to a close, the Apollo cabin decided to make a carol themed campfire sing-along. You had excused yourself from it, with the lie that you really needed to pack your bags right now, but sadly Will had decided to still pull you with him.
“I need your mental support!” Will declared as he was leading you to the campfire.
“Your cabin is planning this!” You looked accusingly to Will who grimaced, “Aren’t you the councillor?”
“Klaus set us up.” Will sighed, “and promptly disappeared afterwards. Maybe Percy was right, about Klaus.” You rolled your eyes, not wanting to deal with any Klaus conspiracies right now.
As you arrived at the campfire, you noticed that the fire was burning big and bright, signalling the high spirits that camp must have been in. Will sat you down near the Apollo children, right next to Nico.
“Keep an eye on each other- neither of you are to leave,” Will glared affectionately at the both of you.
“He got you too, huh,” Nico stated, poorly hiding the smile on his face, “Do you want a s’more?” he showed you the treat he was holding, and you noticed the pile of marshmallows, chocolate and crackers next to him.
“Are you on s’more duty?” You asked and he nodded.
“I thought Will had rallied you to help too. You know, we need even distribution and all that.”
“He did not ask, but I won’t let you suffer alone.”
───────────
Percy was certain Klaus had put everyone up against him. He could not believe that no one outside of him noticed anything off about the kid. He had been running around, taking witness accounts of Klaus’s behaviour and most importantly noticed that during Christmas nobody knew where he was. So, as the carols at the campfire had started Percy made it his goal to find Klaus and get the truth out of him. Percy Jackson had saved Olympus, defeated Titans and he will succeed in this.
Percy had not spotted Klaus going towards the campfire, nor was he in the Hermes cabin. Percy made his way to the edge of the woods, the slight snow left from earlier still on the trees. He hadn’t wanted to go into the woods as it was getting dark, but if Klaus was hiding there Percy would.
“Where are you going, Percy? It’s dangerous out at night.” Klaus’s jolly voice piped up from behind him. Percy swiftly turned around, laying eyes on the elfish man.
“I was looking for you Klaus,” Percy glared, “I know what you’ve been up to.” Snow started to slowly fall down in the woods, the camp’s shield not covering the weather there. Cold air blew over Percy, and he saw Klaus shiver.
“Oh?” Klaus raised an eyebrow, smile still on his face.
“You know everything about everyone. You are always there whenever anyone needs help,” Percy took a step forward, trying to intimidate Klaus, “Somehow you made Christmas your personality. I have heard you slip up, Klaus. I know what you are.”
Snow blew over the two men, crossing the boundary into camp. Klaus stepped towards Percy, his smile widening and his shoulders tensing as if to prepare for combat.
“Then tell me, Perseus Jackson, what am I? Say it.”
“Santa Claus.”
Klaus’ eyes widened, as first confusing and shock crossed his face.
“You-” he laughed, “Yes, Percy that is what I was hiding. Nothing else for sure.” Sarcasm was dripping from Klaus’s tone.
“What do you mean?” Percy asked, “Why are you laughing?” Klaus just smiled as he stepped back.
“Thank you, Percy, for everything.” He turned around and snickered, “I will see you next year! I hope someday you find out all my secrets.” Klaus walked into the woods and disappeared.
Percy simply watched Klaus walk away. Klaus had more secrets. He was not Santa? Or was he still Santa but trying to make Percy think he is not? Snow landed on Percy’s head, and as he shivered, he heard the soft sounds of carols in the background. Maybe, maybe he did not have to know. It might be better to not figure out who Santa is. It might be for the better that he let this go.
───────────
The carol sing-along went fine. There were some groans here and there about the carols and after the first ten minutes you were willing to commit murder to have it stop. However, with Nico and the power of friendship, you both restrained yourself from committing crimes and sitting out the carols. There were some attempts to ‘steal’ the s’more ingredients, but thanks to your alertness and Nico’s death glare it all worked out.
Throughout the carols, more and more of your friends went to sit near you. You were having a fun time, discussing some of your plans with Leo, who was sitting behind you and hanging on your shoulders. As the final carols were sung Percy decided to finally show his face. There was snow on his hair, which melted as soon as he made it to the campfire.
“Where have you been?” You asked, as Percy sat down next to you looking dazed.
“I think I found peace,” Percy mumbled, and he slowly shook his head, “Are there still s’mores?”
You nodded, and as Percy started eating away his sorrows the warmth of the campfire filled your heart.
