Rlim Shaikorth, the White Worm, is a Great Old One from the Cthulhu Mythos. It appears as a colossal worm the colour of dead flesh, with a gaping maw and empty eye sockets that bleed continuously.
Rlim Shaikorth travels across the ocean on an enormous iceberg called Yiklit. It is said to blast ships and coasts with freezing storms. Those caught in its path are frozen solid. Its victims turn white, and will never thaw out, even when placed by a fire.
Rlim Shaikorth was one of the Ancient Powers of lost Hyperborea. It came down from beyond Thulask within its glacier citadel of Yikilth, guiding it with the power of its supreme sorcery. It swept the coastlines, blasting the port cities of the Hyperboreans with freezing light and unleashing spirits of icy cold. As it slaughtered its way down the coast he collected wizards that interested him and forged them into beings capable of surviving his cold and aiding in the rituals that powered Yikilth. However it became known that it had not saved them solely for service but to fatten them with magic from its icy realm, for the ghosts of powerful wizards was its only sustenance.
Rlim Shaikorth was slain by the warlock Evagh with the aid of the ghosts within it and the glacier Yikilth melted beneath torrents of boiling black blood.
Since it’s a new year and I already finished my most anticipated fakemon line (based on a survey of myself), let me go over some concepts I hope to accomplish in the coming months
a reimagining of my geoduck Gooeyduck with an evolution Gooeygoose
a revamp of an ancient, forgotten line. Spitsen and new evolutions Salimute and Slobbernard.
a revamp of my black widow Widowitch
a Syllid worm whose epitokes make it resemble a train, which I have dubbed Polyfrate
a worm inspired by Rlim Shaikorth and the graboids from Tremors. I was originally trying to work some of those into Troglobeast, but it ended up pulling the design in too many different directions and I opted to keep it simple.
In general, a lot of my really old fakemon are lackluster and devoid of meaningful inspiration both concept-wise and design-wise, and I want to fix that.
A Hint to Curing the Plague without Killing Lucio (aka. Vlastomil might have ice powers)
Not sure if this has been talked about either...
While playing Asra's route The Death books, Asra mentions possessing the Liber Yvonis, so I did a bit of digging.
The Liber Yvonis (The Book of Eibon) is a fictional Lovecraft book, an “immense text of arcane knowledge that contained, among other things, a detailed account of Eibon's exploits, including his journeys to the Vale of Pnath and the planet Shaggai, his veneration rituals of Zhothaqquah (Eibon's patron deity), and his magical formulae—such as for the slaying of certain otherworldly horrors.”
There’s a short story called "The Coming of the White Worm" as Chapter IX of the Book of Eibon.
In the story, the worm froze men:
The ‘fat white worm” and his entourage travel up and down the coast of Mhu Thulan, destroying shipping and port cities with a kind of ice ray that enfrosts anything it touches.
We find a WHITE WORM. In the FROSTY SNOW.
Vlastomil doesn’t have ice powers... (or uh, does he?? >>;;) Does Wriggler have superpowers?
The book continues with how to kill said white worm:
Whosoever learneth the time and means of his vulnerability and hath heart for this undertaking, may slay him easily. And the time for the deed is during his term of sleep. Therefore we adjure thee now by the faith of the Old Ones to draw the sword thou wearest beneath thy mantle and plunge it in the side of Rlim Shaikorth: for such is the means of his slaying.
But know, however, that he who slayeth Rlim Shaikorth must necessarily perish in the slaying."
Rlim Shaikorth is the white worm in the Book of Eibon, yes. And yes, the brave (but somewhat foolish) warlock who slew the worm did die. The Ice 9 ice and iceberg melted away after the worm’s death.
We don't know how far the devs referenced this book, how much still stays true to this story. Vlastomil looks less creepy, and we don't know if the person who kills him will die. And we don't know if killing him would even dispel the plague beetle curse or if the plague persists after death of Vlastomil. We know the disaster worms can shrivel up and die if they aren't fed regularly though...
But I think one thing is for sure:
There can be an option not to kill Lucio to cure the plague.
Don't kill Lucio if the option to choose shows up. Don't do it because there's no going back from murder for our beloved fluffy magician, our beloved dorky plague doctor, our beloved queen. Save their souls. Save Lucio from his own stupid. Sorry Vlastomil, the only way for any of us to have a happy ending... Is if a Fool comes to kill you. Preferably and probably Lucio, he can redeem himself with some slaying, and while it’s sad I hope he takes down Valdemar too, like this:
He’s going to be insufferable afterwards, but his route would be a lot easier to play if he actually lives up to all his boasting.
