OOC: Sayings that need to become Pokemon

I was thinking about how Foongus and Amoongus were "There's a fungus among us" so why not add some more?

'Snug as a Bug in a rug'

Obviously needs to be a bug type. Obviously, the whole line doesn't have to do with sleeping. But imagine the bug was based off a tent moth or something, and the middle evo could be lime a cocoon, but the cocoon was a literal tent. (I looked it up and that's already a fakemon bt Brian12 on Deviantart and that makes me very happy) But since that already exists, it could be moon based or lamped based them, with the middle one being a sleepy bug.

'Sleep Tight, don't let the Bed Bugs bite'

Actually, this could be a combo of the one above. The caterpillar stage could be the Snug bug in a rug, where the pokemon wraps itself in a cozy silk blanket, the middle evo could be fully engulfed in a bed like cocoon where it's 'sleeping tight' and don't let the bed bugs bite could be a dark/bug or bug/ghost or ghost/dark type bed bug/moth/spider thing that will bite children when they sleep and depending on the type, sucks the blood from them or sucks the life from them.

'Ignorance is Bliss'

A happy-go-lucky pokemom that enjoys doing whatever and erasing the bad memories of anyone. It could be a mythical.

'Fight or Flight'

I actually made this one if 5th grade, and it's actually one of the favorite fakemon I've made. It was a blue cloud bat that that had a unicorn horn. It was like a mixture of Togekiss, Swoobat, and Altaria if that makes any sense. But it could evolve into a pokemon called Cloufree, a flying/fairy type, or Cloustorm, a flying/fighting type. Actually, I'll probably revise the fakemon and post it here, since as much as I love them, I can't stand the old art of them.

"When Pigs Fly'

A flying type pig. That's it. Honestly, if I ever draw these, I'm definitely adding a lot more elements to it since I don't just want it to be a pig with wings.

'A blessing in disguise'

This would probably be a mythical pokemon as well. It could be like a helper of Arceus that resembles the angels we see in media. This pokemon is known for its disguises, watching people and giving good fortune to those it deems kind-hearted. It would have the same ability as Zorua/Zoroark, going into battle disguised as the last pokemon in your party.

'Curiosity killed the cat'

Not much we can do with it, but I just like the idea of a Ghost/normal type cat pokemon. It could have a similar position to Greavard, and even be a counterpart to it. Also, did you know that the full saying is; "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back?"

Knock on Wood

It'd be a pokemon based on Pinnochio, but it would also be the puppeteer. Many years ago, this Pokemon was made by a puppeteer, but when its master died, the pokemon wanted to honor his crafts by making their own own puppets. Do they take pieces of wood from trees and make wooden puppets of their own, giving them life with their psychic powers. This pokemon will have little wooden stick puppets follow it around, like how Dragapult have Dreepy follow them around.

That's all I can think of right now. While I'm probably going to draw a lot of them, feel free to use these ideas yourself, or add to these ideas!

Something for me to consider is making fakemon for all of the as-of-yet unused type combos.

Rock/Ghost is covered with Caskry and Mausomber

Pinonkey, Donkeyata, and Fiestaur are Fire/Fairy

I have more than enough Bug/Dragon and Bug/Normal types

And Sinchilla, Icykandji, and Iglookandji mean Ice/Poison is covered as well

So what does that leave? Normal/Steel, Normal/Rock, Normal/Ice, and Ground/Fairy. Oh. Umm, well, a Ground/Fairy could be fun but it seems we've reached the bottom of the barrel besides that. Ground/Fairy might actually work for my magic caecilian idea.

So it looks like I'll be keeping those Normal combos in mind. You know, if I ever want to make an animal holding a rock. Or an animal that lives in the cold but doesn't really like it. Or a shitty bootleg version of Tinkaton.

Blazing Howls

- 001: Emberpaw

Type: Fire

Ability: Flare

Entry: Emberpaws are completely weak on their own, requiring supervision from their larger evolutions to defend them from larger Balarivogs. The liquid oil that they secrete all over their bodies is what helps ignite their tail on fire, but because it is young it does not have the full compounds of normal fire to make the fire painful meaning that if you were to put your hand through the fire, it would be warm instead. -Audio log finished.

-Headbutt

- 002: Vulburst

Type: Fire, Light

Ability: Flare, Luminous Glow

Entry: As agile as they look, Vulbursts are not like their final evolutions meaning they are not as fast as them, making them ambush predators by using their tail that can cast a glowing light, they use this to lure prey to where it is and once that happens, up to 5 or more Vulbursts will ambush their prey ripping them apart while wrapping their tails around them to pin them down and burn them. A Vulburst’s tail has a multifunctional purpose, it can switch its tail to a flaming torch or to the one I just mentioned earlier, a flameless light. They also use their tails to ward off larger Balarivogs during the night as well as using them like a whip with both of their two abilities. -Audio log finished.

-Luminous Whip

-Leap Effect

-Flame Whip

- 003: Flamehowl

Type: Fire, Light, Electric

Ability: Flare, Luminous Glow, Thunder Shock

Entry: The Flamehowl, one of the apex predators of Northern Canada utilize their fiery jaws for a burning bite, their light which is used for blinding prey or for defending the pack, as well as electricity on their claws tailored to be used for either paralyzing their prey or electrocuting them to a slow and painful death. They are usually seen all over the territories most of the time and are rarely seen in any other province other than those three. When two male Flamehowls get into a fight, it’s either during the mating season or they fight violently for the title of being the alpha male, if one wins they become the alpha, if the other loses they are kicked from the pack. Flamehowls are dangerous predators and should be hunted with extreme caution. -Audio log finished.

-Rip Apart

The Inspiration behind this line were Fox pups, Foxes (Red Fox specifically) and Wolves, pretty straightforward. And most importantly these animals inhabit North America, specifically Canada!

tbh I had a really interesting fakemon idea. An ultra beast based on Schrodinger’s cat. Think about it. Ultra Beasts are based off invasive species and contrasting design motifs. House cats are invasive. And I can’t really think of something that contrasts more than “alive and dead”. It would probably be a Ghost-Normal type, and we don’t have enough of those.

I have oodles of fakemon concepts written down because I like to daydream about making my own game that’s similar to pokemon. However, I haven’t ever drawn many of them— it was in the last few of months that I actually drew some pen sketches of a few ideas!

Some notes on a few of these first-pass designs:

Waterprowl (the honchkrow-lookalike heron in the upper right) would be a water/dark-type that hunts by using its wings to make shadows over water to conceal their presence, like real herons do. It has three evolutionary stages— it starts out as a generic chick fakemon that wears part of its eggshell on its head as a hat and is a reference to “bad eggs”, then a fledgling crow-looking fakemon that sneaks around in the shadows and pulls other fakemons’ tails.

Munchbowl (the trick-or-treat pail thing that’s running in the upper middle) is a cauldron steel-type that changes its secondary typing based on what the last berry it consumed was. It doesn’t evolve.

Stitchcraft (the patchwork witchy gremlin in the lower middle) would be a fairy-type that uses a needle with thread looped through it as a wand to cast spells that allow it to control the fabric of the universe.

Bomboardier (the cartoon bomb pig with an eyepatch) is my baby and I love its little curly fuse tail.

I’ve also got a lot of other concepts that I haven’t drawn yet, with some of my favorites being:

An ice-type lion with a snowflake for a mane.

A line of three ducklings that are always squabbling about who gets to be the leader and evolves into a three-headed goose hydra called “dukduktruce” akin to dodrio.

A sea slug that evolves into a sea butterfly.

A living geode that is shy and appears to be only a rock before it opens up more as it evolves with various levels of high friendship and becomes extremely loyal to those who saw its inner beauty before it flaunted all its stunning crystals.

A decks of cards that has an ability that randomly changes its form and appearance to a different face card when it enters battle.

A wriggly baby bug based on a mosquito nymph that has a gender-split evolution into aggressive, high attack stat females and docile, high speed stat males.

A ghost/grass-type pair of fakemon akin illumise and volbeat called Booquet and Corpsage.

A creepy ghost-type that communicates via charades called Phantomime.

Poison/Grass manchineel tree that evolves from a "little apple of death" pre-evo

Normal/Ice Siberian tiger counterpart to Pyroar

Fire/Ice liger you can only get by breeding Pyroar and the above tiger 'mon together whilst holding an incense

Dark/Flying regional Spearow that emphasizes the fact it's a shrike that inflicts The Horrors on bug types (hey, if that pink abomination is allowed...)

Ice type regional Miltank based on an ice cream machine (I'm sorry. Almost)

We have a lot of punk-esque Pokémon, actually

And by a lot I mean four, Skuntank, Scrafty, Obstagoon, and Toxtricity (interesting that only one of these are not dark type). This intrigues me because when it comes to other alternative genres we're really drawing at straws, and I wonder why Pokémon Company picked punk four times specifically (not that I hate it, those are some of my favourite Pokémon!)

Something I'd love to see? A grunge, emo, goth (I know we have Gothitelle but we definitely could do with more) or metal based Pokémon, but NOT just the looks and also considering the music and the meaning of the genres themselves. By extension maybe more specific subgenres too, for example I associate Scrafty with Crust Punk all the time. What about an industrial punk Pokémon? Or queercore (THAT WOULD BE SO COOL) or riot grrrl?

This ESPECIALLY goes for if they're making a goth Pokémon ever again because the one line we got, as much as I love them, really was them doing Gothic Lolita and calling it a day (Actually I remember, I did make some Gothitelle regional variants a long way back, I should post those). THEY SHOULD EXPAND! Get super specific, are they doing darkwave? Gothic Rock? New Wave?, Maybe even focus on a specific band rather than subgenres, imagine a Pokémon based on Siouxie and the Banshees or Diva Destruction or the Crüxshadows (I happen to like the last two most).

That being said of course this is nuanced because we the players can interpret things however we want. This doesn't need to happen either! I just thought it would be really interesting to think about (and if y'all have any ideas please share! It'd be super neattt—)

Idk if I actively announced it in my skunk Pokémon post but I was gonna make a new alt skunk Pokémon as part of a pseudo starter trio (still debating how the triangle's gonna be). I'll probably base it off of the more occult nature of some of the music I've heard, but I'm gonna ask around to get a better gauge of how to really get a neat design down. The other members of the trio, if you're curious, are going to be an oppossum and a raccoon partially because of that one Oklahoma starter Pokémon meme and partially because we somehow don't have either as a Pokémon yet I think. They'll be alt too but idk what specifically I'll do for them yet

You know what I think would be a cool idea for a Pokémon? A water ghost that possesses plumbing the way Rotom possesses appliances.

Like its base form would be a little water gremlin peeking out of a length of PVC pipe, and it could have forms like bathtub, hose, sprinkler, sink, toilet, etc.

Since the type change gimmick wouldn’t work here, it would have a different signature move for each form kind of like how cosplay pikachu does. Each forms move would serve a different purpose (attack, special attack, hazard setup, healing, buff, etc) and the form’s stats would differ slightly to fit the purpose of the move. For example, the hose form could have a whipping around move that does physical damage, the toilet could have a move that does special damage and causes poison with gross toilet water, the bathtub could heal itself or an ally pokemon by filling with a relaxing bath with like, fancy bath salts and stuff, the sprinkler could spray haunted water all over the field that damages non-ghost types that come into contact with it every turn (or on switch out, could work like sandstorm or spikes, either would be good), and so on.

Just think it would be a neat concept

The urge to make Deonie into an original Pokemon for fun is real

But like- So many types and type combinations fit with them!

Ghost, Dark, Fire, and maybe Psychic if we wanna stretch it but Psychic doesn't seem that fitting

Might go for a Ghost-Dark type, a Ghost-Fire type, or a Dark-Fire type

Only thing is, if I make Deonie into a Pokemon, I so have to make the Parasite into a Pokemon, maybe as a pre evolution to Deonie or a separate Pokemon that rivals, counterparts, or is connected to Deonie

God my mind is flooding with ideas

If I were to drag the Parasite into this, my ideas for their possible types are Normal, Dark, and maybe Fairy, tho them being Fairy is unlikely like how Deonie being Psychic is unlikely

Alright, you know what happened? I got another fakemon idea and yes, it's another polychaete worm. Imagine this: a mermaid that is a nereid worm, and the humanoid upper body is basically the worm's pharynx.

I call this concept...Wormaid. It's such a brilliant idea that I posted it on Twitter and Discord challenging artists to do their own takes on it. Will anyone actually take me up on that? We'll just have to wait and see.
