awh fuck I do gotta type something out don't I? Alright lemme try and break it down without rambling. I have 0 visual examples so just, bear with me, Ill try and use some inspirational art from back when I made them to get the look across. But here we go!

So I have a sci-fi setting named "Cosmosphere" in which I put all my sci-fi flavoured ideas and stories. I've written a short story about an android girl falling in love with a buff mechanic lady, set a tabletop game in it, and generally use it as a dumping ground for all things spacey that I like. Within Cosmosphere there's a few key players on the galactic stage as far as alien species go. There's the beetle-like Prok who's entire society is built around cartography and the want to chart the entire universe, the nomadic and pachyderm inspired Jaatani who's arid home planet was destroyed by a collapsing sun so they now inhabit a massive planet sized fleet of starships, and the noble Rook, sentient machines native to the zone of space known as the Cosmosphere itself who hail from a long forgotten purpose.

But we're not here to talk about any of those guys! We're here to talk about the very first species I ever designed for the setting, the Fenrii (Fen-ree). Hailing from the frigid world of Fenrai (Fen-rye) these large humanoids are much much farther along in their evolution than we humans. Because of this both their biology and culture are very old and run deep within their science and society. When I say much farther along think a million years or so of evolution, some of it forced via outside factors. But where to begin about these genderless giants? Lets start with physical characteristics. The Fenrii, as described before, are tall for the most part humanoid in their general shape. What sets them apart is their horns, hair growth, and thick leathery skin. The Fenrii evolved from a very promenant predator species on their homeworld that was well adapted to surviving the harsh cold climate and rocky mountain ranges made of obsidian and volcanic rock left behind from long extinct flows. Think of your average fenrii as a person anywhere between 6 and 8ft tall with horns of varying sizes and lengths, usually with very thick hair on their head and body, and a more animalistic face. (A very good example and a large source of my inspiration for them are the Jotun from the Banner Saga series of video games. A series I havent played but love the look of, example below:)

(Where the fenrii differ from their inspirational counterparts is they have slightly more broad and almost bovine facial features. Particularly wide flat noses and eyes that sit more far apart than your average human.) Because of their predatory ancestry the Fenrii also possess 2 enlarged sets of canine teeth along with thick sharp finger/toenails. Natural weapons leftover from the days when their animal ancestors stalked the mountains and cave systems for prey.

Now that we've gone over what they look like, lets get more into that biology! The Fenrii have always been a genderless species. Due to the perilous nature of their homeworld's climate one of their oldest adaptations was that any member of their species can produce offspring. Another defense against the harsh environs was that they evolved as oviparous mammals, laying large thick-shelled eggs that took only around 7 lunar cycles (thats 7 months in Cosmosphere speak) to gestate and hatch as long as they were properly incubated. So where did the problems emerge? Well, because of their tribal roots, fenrii society views bringing offspring into the world as a very sacred thing. for thousands of years the tribes of Fenrai controlled their birthing rates rather strictly as in accordance with their spiritual values, but as science advanced in their society, so did their ability to diagnose issues within their ways of life. Fenrai has no central government, nor does it really have nations, what it does have is bastion tribes that have either made peace with or absorbed other tribes across their history. These tribes largely run on communal village structure, despite their large size. I bring this up because when it was discovered that their birthing practices were having a massively negative impact on their physiology, changing it was one of the only things all these tribes agreed on unanimously.

You see, back when they were animals and eventually a more primitive species, the fenrii's ancestors reproduced rather frequently. Only one egg could be laid at a time by a single member of the species, but packs and early tribal societies would make egg clutches out of groups of multiple eggs laid by multiple members. The eggs would be looked after by the whole tribe to ensure as many of them as possible would hatch, and this practice was repeated roughly 3-4 times an orbital cycle (year). However, when their society began to adhere to stricter birthing regulations, the length of time and number of generations born with these practices began to cause conflict in their evolutionary cycle. The core issue was as followed: The eggs the Fenrii were producing changed very little, but their own physical attributes did. No longer were they hardy predators, and their bodies more often then not couldn't take the stress of carrying and then laying the eggs they reproduced with. So a culture spanning initiative was formed, to find a way to ensure a future for the Fenrii through alternative birthing practices. At first it was far from perfect. Some of the tribes simply opted to encourage hastened birthing which cost many would-be parents their lives in their attempts to have more children. After nearly 3 human centuries of carefully restructuring their societal views and cultural practices around the subject, an answer was found. Deep within the volcanic caverns of Fenrai a form of super-mycelium (its sci-fi lemme have this) was discovered to have the interesting property of being able to self-replicate via cloning. However, through rigorous testing, it was also discovered to be able to reproduce OTHER material other than itself, genetically identical and healthy nearly any time. Work was put in to refine the process of feeding genetic material into this mycelium to be able to produce a living breathing Fenrii from it. After decades of work, they succeeded, and thus the brood stones were born. By refining the mycelium's reproductive properties the Fenrii were able to create synthetic eggs capable of taking genetic material from either one or more hosts and create a prepubescent copy of that individual, healthy and ready to live a life of their own. This breakthrough was heralded as the most important scientific work in Fenrii history, and was adopted into the cultural practices of the various cultures of Fenrai over the next few centuries.

The most common practice among Fenrai society is that two or more Fenrii who have been wed will decide to have a child and offer a single finger to a brood stone. After a gestation period of 10 lunar cycles a child will be produced from the stone, hatching much like an egg, with genetic characteristics of all of its parents. Fenrii society is welcoming to all forms of self expression, and its not uncommon to find Fenrii across the stars identifying in a myriad of ways. I hope this wasnt too messy, im really bad at like, typing stuff out in one go, but I tried to make it as understandable as possible. I really like my sci-fi setting! Mostly white feathers on the front of his body with a spotted-band of dark feathers across his broad chest, brown feathers along his back, hands, and the upper half of his head (from his beak up) with the typical speckled markings along his back and arms, and his breed’s namesake red tail feathers.His eyes are a bit odd for his species, though, with black rings around them and an intense red color that’s so vibrant it’s practically glowing (given his powers, though, it might actually be glowing for real…). Has dark brown hair/head feathers woven together in a way similar to cornrows that end at the middle of his neck.

Outfit: Wears a loose-fitting blood red top with a lighter red interior (though the actual colors can change depending on what spirits and/or deities he’s invoking) and a large black collar- typically keeps the chest part opened fairly wide to show off his strong torso and the sleeves rolled up around the elbows to do the same for his arms; has a large pocket on the right side that he reserves for small charms. Keeps his shirt tied closed with a dark purple and black striped sash which is also used for holding various larger dolls and charms as well as a well-worn brown leather pouch with a black bird-skull motif on his back-right side that holds his most powerful and dangerous charms and amulets. Background:

Little Henri grew up in New Orleans as part of a long-line of Louisiana Voodoo practitioners, spending most of his childhood in a small house with his grandmother and five older siblings.

From the first time he mentioned being able to see the ghosts and spirits around him, he was taught the names of the spirits and deities to call on to help himself and others as well as the proper rituals to summon them when necessary. Kids outside of his family would tease and bully him for talking to “imaginary friends”, as they would put it, but he enjoyed the looks of terror on their faces once he learned how to invoke spirits and allow them to possess his body- revenge was something he GREATLY enjoyed.

Over time, Henri’s viewpoints began to differ from those of his family: Instead of wanting to use his abilities to help people, he wanted to use them to gain power and recognition. Instead of the more benevolent spirits and deities his family formed connections with, he sought out the more powerful and destructive ones. Instead of a simple life as a houngan, he wanted the dark powers of a bokor.

Needless to say, his family was very disappointed with his choices in life and all but disowned him by the time he was old enough to move out on his own. It didn’t take long after that for him to start using his powers to commit crimes and earn the attention of FOWL- he accepted their invitation and became a full agent at age 28.

Was partnered with Steelbeak about two years ago and to this day is still considered by the chief officer to be one of the WORST partners he’s ever had. It wasn’t hard for Steelbeak to figure out Henri, by then dubbed “The Bokor Baron”, was a two-faced snake in the grass who wanted the chief officer title and the power that came with it, even if it meant killing the current chief officer to do so. Their partnership lasted two and a half weeks before High Command finally agreed to Steelbeak’s numerous requests for a different partner.

Current Position: Active field agent for FOWL, he’s often called in to deal with more supernatural related missions (ancient magical artifacts, getting information from deceased individuals, clearing spirits out of FOWL facilities, etc.).

Personality:

Henri will act suave, gentlemanly, and cordial to anyone upon first meeting them, winning over most people almost instantly as if they are mysteriously compelled to like him…

The truth is, though, that this side of him is just an act to win people over. One of the charms he carries with him at all times increases his natural charisma and desirability to those who fall for his gentlemanly demeanor- once it takes effect, individuals under its sway will almost always be inclined to side with him during disputes, take his advice to heart, and, for those attracted to men, more often than not they end up adoring him to the point of a sort of pseudo-infatuation.

Those with a naturally higher tolerance against magic or attunement to the spiritual realms have shown resistance or even immunity to this effect. Other than the natural immunity, the only ones who aren’t affected by his charm are those who have a chance to know what he’s really like before his gentlemanly act can fool them.

To-date there are less than 10 people in all of FOWL who’ve proven immune to his charms, with High Command and Steelbeak being four of them.

Deep down, his real personality is manipulative, greedy, and power-hungry. He wants to be considered the best in whatever field he is a part of, and FOWL is no exception.

Should be noted that he does have a bit of a temper problem when things don’t go his way, often leading to him losing his composure and slipping into his much thicker New Orleans accent while cursing and throwing a fit.

Steelbeak is extremely good at provoking this reaction out of his ex-partner and does so with glee, despite it causing anyone under the other man’s charms to see Steelbeak as a horrible person for angering Henri in the first place- he doesn’t care, though, it’s totally worth it to see him blow up and lose his cool.

Interesting Bonus Facts:

Can speak both English and French fluently, and will often pretend to be French when first meeting someone to help with his gentlemanly illusion.

While he predominantly uses Louisiana style voodoo, Henri is also well-versed in hoodoo, mainly practicing it for the materials and charms that can be made from the practice.

Has cigars and rum on him at all times. The cigars are strictly for his invocations, as is the rum, but he’ll occasionally take a swig of the rum when he’s so inclined.

Can sing and dance really well, both for the sake of his rituals and invocations, and just for fun.

He’ll never admit it out loud, but his favorite song is “La Vie En Rose” because his grandmother used to sing it to him when he was little. He knows it in both English and French and will sometimes sing it when he’s stressed or having trouble sleeping

IF he ever lets someone get close enough to let his guard down around them, he might sing it for them occasionally.

Although he’ll swear up and down that he adores the way those charmed by his spells fawn over him, in reality he finds them boring and weak and could never fall for someone so simple-minded.

His ideal romantic interest would be someone with a strong enough mind and spirit to resist his charming magic, who’s assertive enough to put him in his place when he acts up without trying to “steal his spotlight”, and could see ghosts and spirits like he can so they would never think he was crazy for talking to himself.

I’m not as much of a Star vs. the Forces of Evil fan as the others, but I can see a CU SvtFoE AU. I could see the boys as Star and Marco (they can work well in either role) but what I can see that would REALLY interest me is Edith as Eclipsa and CU/Krupp as a combination of Meteora/Globgor. (Well... given how EASILY the comparison is between Heinous and Krupp...)

Oooo that sounds like a great AU idea! :D

For starters, regarding the boys, I actually think they would share the role of Star Butterfly since they’re imaginative, carefree, super friendly, sometimes irresponsible, and just want to have a great time. Just like her. For the AU I think that Harold was the crown prince while Grace is the Queen and George and his family would be part of the royal court. And on Harold’s 10th birthday, he would be bestowed the royal magic wand. But something spectacular happens that surprises everyone. When Harold grabs the wand, it glows and a piece of it splits off and goes towards George. When the two forms of light fade way, the wand is now cleaved into two wands for the boys to use, each with a different pen-like appearance. They’re super excited since they both get to have magic powers.  This eventually gets them sent to Earth after they nearly destroyed the kingdom with their magical creations.

Ooo and a bonus idea! Their Butterfly Super Form is basically them fusing together and forming Gerald Buttchins but with a magical boy theme.

And for the role of Marco, I actually considered having Melvin for the role. Like Marco, he’s also a cautious, realistic, sometimes cynical nerd who often faces alot of comedic misfortune. It also works in the sense that Marco’s down to Earth personality is meant to balance Star’s over the top energy, much like with Melvin and the boys. Also this is honestly the first time I’ve ever cast Melvin in a heroic role for an AU so it would be cool to see him in a position where he can gain positive character development. So just like in the show, Melvin has to serve as a ‘guide’ for the prince and his best friend and has to put up with all of their annoying antics. When it comes to actual fighting, he surprises and impresses them with state of the art weapons that he made in his spare time. 

I actually had quite a few thoughts for Edith and CU/Krupp in this AU. But since you sent another post relating to them, I’ll share them in that one.

Also, here are some other characters that can be involved.

Professor Poopypants as Ludo. They’re both recurring, short, ego-maniacal villains of their shows but are pretty comedic and hard to take seriously.  They do however have tragic backstories that explain why they’re the way they are.

Jessica Gordon as Ponyhead. The designated narcissistic, girly, overly dramatic popular girls in the cast. Jessica would also be the type who would love all things related to ponies. While she is friends with George and Harold at the start of the show, she isn’t exactly a bestie like Ponyhead and Star, especially given how extra Jessica can be. I was thinking that Jessica would be like a normal girl with horse features (unicorn horn, ears, horse tail), but she could transform herself into an actual unicorn when needed to.

Mr. Ree as Buff Frog. Buff Frog comes off as one of the few adults that Star is comfortable around and who gives solid advice when needed. Ree is definitely one of the few faculty members that the boys can count on when things go south, both for his level-headedness and his combat experience, so I feel that the role would be appropriate. Although he would be one of the forces of evil since he’d be employed under Poopypants, he’d eventually would resign and align himself with the good guys. Plus I do think Ree would be an excellent father figure.

Erica Wang as Janna. They’re both snarky, prank loving girls that the heroes admire and think of them as being super cool. I can also see Erica having an interest in the occult and witchcraft, only she’d put more effort into the research for these subjects and how to work with them. She also is able to appear and disappear without explanation, much like how Janna shows up to the confusion of the others Marco.

They desire to use her as a pawn or weapon, to find out more about her history, and to keep themselves safe from her. But nobody pays a bounty hunter quite like Zangei, so the villages are usually outmatched.
