eve of the sun.
(spoiler) musings on my design choices below <3
Tumblr media
✦ CLAIRE ELFORD —
Oh, my girl... I love her so much. I changed up her design slightly to draw in a gold tone due to my adjustment of her neck accessory: instead, it is part of a earring she was gifted by her grandmother that then broke. Though she doesn't remember why she had it, nor why it was only one of a set, she still holds a lot of sentimental value to it and couldn't bear to throw it out or sell its pieces, instead transforming it into a necklace.
I also gave her boots which, despite their look, are customized to better track up the mountain. These are her personal hiking boots! Additionally, since she lives up there, she has gotten into a few scuffles. While she's learned to hold herself well, there have been times she gets a bit overzealous—and the scar on her face is one of those cases. A nasty rock she was trying to remove had split her lip open and completely dragged down her shoulder before she could hit the floor and regain her standing. Nothing too dramatic, she'd say, but it reminds her to be careful... sometimes :P
Of course, because she's canonically the strongest of the group, I gave her more obvious muscles and fat to pad it out. As I've stated before with her living situation, eating is important to help her keep her strength up—and is also just something she enjoys! There are so many lovely recipes to try out, and before they died, she had loved bringing down ingredients of something new for her adoptive parents to try. They were all fresh, too, from her garden.
Here, despite the timeline regarding typical real-life immigration, I've portrayed her as mixed Indian/Portuguese. Her mother and grandmother were simply Indian immigrants, with Claire as the fourth-generation (Lady Dorothy had taught her Hindi, but with years without practice... she's lost much of it). Unfortunately for them, this was an additional motivator in the main town to persecute them sooner rather than later despite their people settling on the outskirts of Levine's ruling.
✦ SIRIUS GIBSON —
Onto Mr. "Bah!" now... As I've already mentioned, his moon earring is part of a set with Claire as a gift from Lady Dorothy. It was a gift in her hopes of bringing the two closer together.
Now, whether or not that worked out fully, Sirius feels he owes nearly everything to Lady Dorothy. Not only to provide him housing after his parents' demise, but tend to his leg injury wrought from when he'd been nearly crushed in the crowd. Everyone had pushed forward to see the alleged witches' deaths and hadn't cared when he'd fallen—Dorothy was there just in time to act as a barrier of sorts before they'd broken his ankle... but she still ended up crafting a small cane for his use.
As he grew up, however... the cane became more difficult to use. He was taller, and thus he began using Lady Dorothy'd old cane for himself. Whereas she had only needed it for balance, Sirius uses it to offset the pain/pressure on his left leg. Neither cane is pictured here, but it is still a crucial part of how his past pains continue to affect his present life—in a very literal way, albeit.
Due to how cold he tends to run within the mansion, he wears many layers. I've simplified his outfit to simply be: dress shirt, vest, pelerine. The last one is cut from the same cloth as Lady Dorothy's cloak (hence the slight star motif shared in both of their cloaks) and was initially a proper 'cloak' tailored for his younger self, though he still cannot let go of it.
I've added more prominent red to his design to tie in the ruby crest, as well as represent his resentment toward most others. In a literal sense, 'seeing red'—the reasons behind him becoming a demon clear. Unlike Claire who stands for nobility, Sirius cannot allow himself or Lady Dorothy that disgrace of leniency.
One last note: Sirius is portrayed as mixed Bengali/Portuguese. His great-grandparents had been one of the first Portuguese immigrants, with his grandfather brought over as a contracted engineer to figure out the water supply line for this area. He had never been given the chance to learn Bangla, as his mother didn't speak it... but Lady Dorothy had taken time to teach both Sirius and Claire Hindi, and he still reads some of the few books the Elfords had brought over. It's made him feel closer to the family, and he takes great care in trying to refine his language... even if it's difficult without another to practice with. (...I like to imagine, post-Sirius Conclusion, he teaches Claire again. It's only right.)

Random Johnny and Marcus Headcanons for the Human AU
Marcus and Johnny would cook together a lot when Johnny was young, mainly with Johnny sitting on the counter holding the recipe book for his dad to read.
Marcus’s nicknames for Johnny are John-song and John-bird, which come from his wife’s nickname for their son, songbird.
When Johnny gets night terrors, he will go sit with his dad til he’s calmed down enough to go back to sleep. He typically ends up falling asleep where-ever that turned out to be and Marcus still carries him to bed.
Marcus still carries an inhaler in case Johnny has a really bad panic attack again, even though the last one that severe was years ago. He also brings noise cancelling headphones everywhere in case Johnny gets sensory overload.
Johnny inherited his dad’s tendency to get awkward in suddenly emotional or intense situations.
They both are very dramatic in the reactions to things.
Marcus called Johnny duck as a nickname when he was really little and now he does it in really intense situations to calm him down.
Marcus does still remember a bit of piano from his wife and will help Johnny out when he’s struggling.
Johnny helped his dad and uncles set up social media soon after they got out of jail. The first person Marcus followed was Johnny and he immediately went through and liked all his posts.
Marcus has a ton of books on parenting and raising/being supportive of your kids that he reads constantly.
Johnny tells his dad pretty much everything, including set gossip.
Marcus is in a groupchat with the other parents in the New Moon Theatre Troupe.
Marcus and Johnny both are fluent in Hindi and use it as a way to just talk to each other one on one in public without other people listening in.
Marcus is constantly hugging his son and tells him that he loves hims and is proud of him every chance he gets after the disaster that happened in Sing 1.
They started family therapy together after the whole disowning issue and are doing so much better that it’s surprised even their therapist.
Marcus has an alert set on his phone for every time Johnny is mentioned in a web article and he reads every single one. He even hangs his favourites around the garage and will show off videos of Johnny to customers.

Hi, do you have any youtube channels recommendations to learn hindi that are not hindi pod 101?
Thanks.
Unfortunately, I don't use Youtube to watch language educational videos, but I find it helpful to watch videos on things that interest me in my TL. So you can search for any topic actually and add "in Hindi" or whichever language to your search.
These are some of my favourite channels to watch content in Hindi, some have subtitles, and some use more Hinglish than others so you can start watching even from the beginner level.
Travel Blog
News and current events
Fashion and style
*Not all videos in G3Fashion are in Hindi, look for the ones with "in HINDI" in the title.
Cooking and recipes
Stand up comedy
I realise this is not very helpful if you are not into similar things as I am but I hope to inspire you to do a little search around on YT and find the channels that interest you!

Meet my boy New Jersey !!
His human name is Daniel Burr, but he exclusively goes by Danny and will knock your lights out if you call him Daniel. He's physically 23 and is the 14th oldest state.
Danny has quite the personality. He's proud, hot tempered, confrontational, dramatic, sarcastic, loud, lively, sassy, blunt, good-humored, passionate, impatient, a jokester, hardworking, diligent, sociable, intelligent, quick-witted, sharp, snarky, fiercely loyal, honest, slightly cynical, pragmatic, analytical, industrious, outspoken and opinionated. He actually makes friends surprisingly easily and loves chatting up strangers, but he also loves starting fights and arguments with some of the other states. He lives for drama. He's very proud and has a very short temper as well. He will not hesitate to speak his mind on anything or call people out when they're being idiotic or irresponsible without regard for their feelings.
Some fun facts about him:
He's 5'5 or 165 cm in height. He's the third shortest male state, being taller than Rhode Island and Delaware.
He has roughly 3A hair
He speaks 18 languages fluently outside of his Indigenous languages, and is learning a further ten languages.
He can fluently speak English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Tagalog, Gujarati, Korean, Arabic, Polish, Greek, Haitian, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian and French. He is currently learning and speaks some Yoruba, Ukrainian, Japanese, German, Lithuanian, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Turkish, Tamil and Telugu.
He's Hispanic. Specifically, mixed white and Indigenous.
He is pretty much constantly fighting with New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania. He also on occasion fights with Massachusetts and Connecticut.
He starts drama and fights on purpose, for the sheer fun of it.
He's surprisingly very competitive and loves to prove himself by being good at things. However, his confidence isn't unfounded; he's a genuinely hard worker who throws himself wholeheartedly into learning new skills and things. He may like to brag, but he absolutely earns the right to.
He is the second best cook of all the states, behind Louisiana. He knows 2-8 recipes from over 80 countries, and he has well over 500 recipes under his belt. Similar to how New York loves learning languages, New Jersey loves learning recipes.
He's actually an insanely skilled driver with impeccably fast reflexes, and is quite possibly one of the very best drivers. He just has a personal vendetta against every single traffic law and driver out there. He can make death-defying turns in the blink of an eye, and will absolutely cut people off on the road for simply looking at him wrong. He has negative patience on the road and gets road rage very easily.
He's a very skilled and very hard worker. He's great at getting things done and getting them done on time.
Despite his argumentative and hot tempered nature, he actually makes friends very easily. He genuinely enjoys chatting up random strangers on the street and having hour long conversations over any topic they can think of. He's a great listener and an engaging conversationalist.
He likes spending time outdoors and in nature.
He jaywalks on occasion for fun.
He cares more about his appearance than he lets on
He's naturally very stylish. He especially loves jean jackets and jackets with pins on them.
He will complain if he has to drive more than half an hour to get anywhere.
He's very skilled at machinery, engineering and mechanics. He can fix up cars, repair wiring, repair machinery and make home improvements.
He talks fast and works faster
Despite his pride in his appearance, he's generally unafraid to get his hands dirty or jump headfirst into nature.
He's actually good friends with Romano, despite what one might think. The two bond over hating people and loving pasta and pizza.
He has a New Jersey accent
He's also, strangely enough, friends with Florida. Any of his insults just roll off of Florida's shoulders, and the two eventually became friends thanks to their shared loud, lively personalities. Danny still likes to play bicker with him, though.
His hobbies are cooking, listening to music, tinkering and complaining
He will complain about pretty much anything and everything.
He played a big part in the Industrial Revolution, like Pennsylvania, and remains his skill with machinery and mechanics to this day. He's not nearly as into it anymore as Pennsylvania is, but he does find joy in fixing up old cars.
He collects old cars.
He is very sarcastic, snarky and quick-witted. He has a nickname for pretty much everyone.
He converted to Judaism sometime during-after the Revolution and has stuck to it since. He's very proud of it.
He's the 11th oldest of the 13 colonies, and was physically 14 during the American Revolution.
He stole one house from England during the Revolution.
He will fight England nearly on sight. It's best to not have the two in the same room.
His likes include: Music, bagels, pizza, Italian food, pasta, diners, Dunkin, hoagies, subs, pork rolls, dancing, drive-in theater, tomatoes, saltwater taffy, Wawa, wine, blueberries, cranberries, corn, cooking, latino food, latino music, Springsteen, Bon Jovi, machinery, engineering, Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, 70's music, partying, complaining, classic movies and old cars.
His dislikes include: New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, England, slow people, slow drivers and traffic laws.
I will be including more/posting more about him later on !! This is just what I have so far :))
I lowkey took loose inspo for him from one of my favorite fictional characters (who's from New Jersey), Danny Williams from 2010's Hawaii Five 0. If you want some idea of NJ's energy, watch clips of Danny Williams sdfghj. (Them sharing a first name is a total coincidence)

As the username implies, James Fleamont Potter means a lot to me and I have put quite a bit of thought into his existence. So here’s a few of my headcanons:
Pansexual, cis man who uses he/him pronouns
Peter and Marlene were his childhood best friends. Marls’ mum and Effie had graduated together and stayed close through the years. Marls’ dad went to wizard law school with Pete’s mum and by the time they all settled down and had kids, the 3 couples were inseparable
Effie was a Hufflepuff and Monty was a Gryffindor, and James was very conflicted on which house he wanted to be in, but was sure his placement was accurate when he walked into the common room the first night and faced the bustling atmosphere, huge fire place and comfy, oversized arm chairs; he immediately felt at home
Was really homesick and used to stay up drawing; that’s how he first discovered a sobbing Sirius having a nightmare and decided that he would never let anyone else hurt his new best mate ever again
Liked to have biscuits and tea with Minnie, since she had been Monty’s quidditch captain back in the day and they had always kept in touch, which meant Minnie was kind of an aunt to him.
Got told off often during his first year for calling her Minnie instead of Professor Mcgonagall (that’s why the marauders call her Minnie)
Was so excited to meet Sirius’ mysterious younger brother, but was rubbed the wrong way when he gave Sirius a hug on the train and Regulus gave him the stink eye and told him to not touch his brother ever again
Got on the quidditch team in second year and beat out 6 upperclassmen in try-outs (Minnie cried and owled Monty immediately)
His gay awakening was his quidditch captain in his second year. He was tall and slim with a bunch of tattoos and a shag haircut and James didn’t know if he wanted to be him or be with him
Had a brief crush on Remus at the beginning of third year
His first kiss was Remus during third year Hols, but at that point he didn’t really have a crush on him anymore
Starting liking Lily towards the end of third year but didn’t really start asking her out and such before fourth year. When he realized he wasn’t getting anywhere, he stopped making a fool of the both of them and tried to befriend her instead. Lily stayed reluctant to his friendship until around mid fifth year
He would beg Mary to teach him to make her famous double chocolate cookies, but she never relented to his begging. Out of spite, when Mary asked him for his biryani recipe, he refused to give it to her
Was a big sucker for muggle romance novels
Walked into the wrong changing room before practice in his fifth year and bumped right into Regulus, who was the last to get out of the showers after his own practice, who was wearing nothing but a towel around his waist
James immediately ran off, apologizing hastily and headed straight to take a cold shower telling Frank to start without him. When Marlene came to check on him a little later, finding his tardiness annoying since they couldn’t run drills without him, she found him screaming into his quidditch kit sitting on the shower floor in his boxers
Starts speaking hindi randomly, especially when he’s super concentrated or zoned out
I’ve got a bunch more, but I’ll save those for another post

National Rice Pudding Day
All  we can think of is a bowl of some good old rice pudding this National  Rice Pudding Day taking place on August 9. For many of us, starting from  our childhood to our adulthood, rice pudding has been a staple in our  diets. Made with a base of rice cooked in milk and sweetened with sugar,  syrup, or honey, rice pudding can be found in many cultures and  cuisines all over the world. Of course, each region has its own unique  take on the dish. Some add nuts and spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, or  cardamom to it, while others throw in a dash of wine to give it that wow  factor. For a more fragrant look and feel, many people in the Middle  East also add pistachio slivers and rose petals before serving it. You  can have it hot or cold, and as a breakfast dish or a dessert after  dinner. So, how are you having your rice pudding on August 9?
History of National Rice Pudding Day
National  Rice Pudding Day celebrates the ancient rice pudding dish in all its  glory and greatness. While we may know the sweet version of the dish  today, did you know that it actually started out as a savory treat? It  is difficult to pinpoint the exact location and time of the creation of  rice pudding, but many scholars believe it may have originated in either  ancient China or in ancient India. Both these countries have a long  history of including rice as well as sugar in their religious and  cultural activities, so it only makes sense that the combination of the  two may have been included in their cuisines as well. ‘Kheer,’ which is  Hindi for rice pudding, was first recorded in ancient India in 6000  B.C., and it was included as a staple in a prescribed Ayurvedic diet  regime. It is also interesting to note that the early versions of the  Indian rice pudding did not actually include rice or sugar. In place of  rice, Indians made use of the cereal grain known as sorghum.
Elsewhere  in the world, rice pudding was being made with rice. The grain had  reached Europe through exports delivered by water or the Silk Road in  the 1300s. Because it was being exported from Asia and was not being  grown in Europe, rice automatically became extremely expensive. Thus,  rice pudding could only be enjoyed by the elite and royalty of European  countries. Before the 1500s, rice pudding was savory in nature. It was  made with rice being boiled in a broth with saffron and almond milk.  Chefs started including sugar into the dish to make it sweet, and soon a  sweetened rice pudding started gaining popularity. It was in the  eighteenth century that rice pudding became more commonplace and less  expensive, all thanks to globalization. The lowered rice prices meant  the grain was in easier reach of the masses, and in today’s world, it is  considered to be a cheap, but filling meal.
National Rice Pudding Day timeline
6000 B.C. Indian Rice Pudding for Healthy Living
Ancient India includes rice pudding in the Ayurvedic diet in order to ensure healthy living.
14th Century Forme of Cury in England
Rice pudding, known as Forme of Cury or rice pottage, is made with rice, almond milk, and saffron in English Royal kitchens.
17th Century Sweetened Rice Pudding Recipes
Some of the modern-age rice pudding recipes come from the Tudor time period, and are called ‘whitepot.’
18th – 19th Century Rice Becomes Cheaper
Rice grains become cheaper, allowing access to the public who can now enjoy rice pudding treats, unlike their predecessors.
How To Celebrate National Rice Pudding Day
Make rice pudding
Have a rice pudding contest
Try a new rice pudding recipe
Take  a trip down memory lane and make your favorite rice pudding recipe.  Because of its versatility, you can choose to have it hot or cold, and  for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Rice pudding is one of the  highest-rated comfort foods out there because of its gooey, yet grainy  texture that leaves one filled with love and warmth.
Participating  in a rice pudding competition is one of the best ways to celebrate the  day. There are two ways you can go about doing this. You can either hold  a rice pudding cooking competition or you can have an eating  competition. Whether you choose one, two, or have both, it’s going to be  a fun-filled day.
Going  back to what is tried and tested can be comforting, but seeking out the  new can reward you with invaluable experiences. Give new rice pudding  recipes a try. It could be a sweet or a savory recipe, the choice is  yours.

How to learn a New Language: A Guide for Every Learner
Have you ever dreamt of strolling down Chandni Chowk and conversing effortlessly with the locals in Hindi? Or perhaps finding yourself in a South Indian temple, seamlessly communicating with the priest in his native tongue? Learning a new language can unlock a world of opportunities, enriching your travels, career prospects, and personal connections. But where do you begin? This blog post will be your roadmap to language learning, guiding you through effective strategies and resources tailored to various learning styles, all while keeping an eye towards languages spoken closer to home!
1. Spark Your Passion: Finding Your "Why"
The journey to fluency starts with a strong foundation – motivation. Identifying your "why" will fuel your perseverance through inevitable challenges. Is it to connect with loved ones who speak another language? To pursue academic or professional opportunities? Maybe it's simply a love for a particular culture and a desire to unlock its nuances through language. A clear purpose will keep you engaged when the going gets tough.
2. Embrace Your Learning Style: Unveiling the "How"
We all learn differently. Some thrive in structured environments, while others blossom with a more immersive approach. Knowing your learning style is key to choosing the most effective methods. Are you an auditory learner who grasps concepts best by listening? Perhaps you're a visual learner who benefits from flashcards and written materials. Maybe a kinesthetic learner flourishes through interactive activities and games. This understanding will empower you to tailor your language learning experience.
3. Building the Basics: Mastering the Fundamentals
Every magnificent building requires a solid foundation. Similarly, language learning begins with a strong grasp of the fundamentals. Start by mastering the alphabet, pronunciation, and basic grammar. There are numerous resources available, from traditional textbooks and online courses from Hindustani tongue
4. Dive Deeper: Expanding Your Horizons
Once you've established a foundation, it's time to delve deeper! Here's where your learning style comes into play. Auditory learners can benefit from podcasts, audiobooks, and watching movies and TV shows in your target language. Visual learners might enjoy illustrated vocabulary builders and online comics. Kinesthetic learners can explore language exchange programs, online language partner platforms, or even attend local meetups with native speakers.
5. Make it Fun and Engaging: Keeping the Spark Alive
Language learning shouldn't feel like a chore. Incorporate activities you enjoy to keep yourself motivated. Listen to music in your target language, follow social media accounts or blogs written by native speakers, or try cooking recipes that involve learning new vocabulary related to ingredients and instructions.
6. Consistency is Key: The Power of Daily Practice
Remember, fluency isn't built overnight. Consistency is paramount. Dedicate a short amount of time each day, even if it's just 15 minutes, to actively engage with your target language. This regular practice will solidify your knowledge and propel you towards fluency.
7. Celebrate Your Achievements: Rewarding Your Progress
